We had a great dinner at zipangu. The hostess is as lively as as the food she serve
. Must try for authentic Japanese food lovers when in Port Douglas. Bit on the expensive side but forgiven as the food and service makes up for it.
Definitely try their sushi here! Very fresh produce, the exterior definitely needs a facelift but their service and quality was worth it. The price is slightly high compared to others closer to Cairns
Tiny Japanese restaurant in Port with beautiful food that puts many in Sydney and Melbourne to shame. Come to think of it this was as good as I enjoyed in Kyoto. Must book though.
Hidden away from the main street. Looks not much from outside, but food is spectacular and very warm and friendly service. Not the cheapest, but quality made up for this well and truely. All of my expectations were well and truely exceeded. If you are looking for a place in port for quality Japanese, this place is worth a look. But book the day prior if you want to eat there as it is only small inside and books out quickly.
Great little unassuming restaurant, a real find. Definitely need to book-there’s say 5 or 6 tables so it’s tiny but also very casual and intimate. Lovely service and husband and wife owners-their care for the food really shows. Beautiful fresh food, the miso was piping hot and fresh, as was the vegetable tempura (light and tasty batter), salmon sushi, gyoza, edamame and crispy chicken karaage. Not cheap (very few places in Port are), but worth it for really beautiful quality food, lovely non-pressured service and great sake. We ordered a heap, but will definitely be back next time to try desserts too.
Authentic Japanese food. Fresh sashimi. Generous serving size of bento set. You won’t be disappointed but do call for a reservation as it’s small eatery and fully booked on most days. If not, order a take away
Food was fresh and tasty. Not the cheapest but good quality.
Couldn't get a table without a booking but we had takeaway.
They do take cards.
Had a crack at this the other night, food was reasonably good, we had salmon sashimi and chicken teriyaki hand rolls, food was made to order and was fresh, but I think it was very expensive for take away Japanese $28 for a bit of Salmon and $14 for two chicken hand rolls sliced up. Lady behind the counter was lovely though and it was of a good quality.
Had read all the reviews and wanted to try this place from the day we arrived however given it was booked out until Wednesday had to wait until last night and what a meal, best Japanese we have ever had! Started with salmon and avocado sushi roll, crispy prawn sushi roll, gyoza, fish cakes and vegetable spring rolls. The quality and freshness of the sushi rolls was amazing, we have never had better. The gyoza were lovely and the fish cake different to what we expected but we really enjoyed it. We then had the soft shell grab for main and finally my son got his fix of his favourite, it was to die for. We then had the chicken karaage and the combo tempura, chicken was delicious and the tempura just perfect. We took a bottle of wine and loved everything. Must visit this place if you are in Port Douglas, yes it is on the pricey side but so are most places in Port Douglas but at least the food is worth it!
Where do I start. I love love my sushi/sashimi and have eaten my fair share, especially in Japan. Not only is the service very friendly, but the sashimi was to die for!!!! absolutely fresh and it melted in my mouth. I could not stop saying how good it was when I was eating it. It was also very filling, whereas in alot of cases, I need to eat a whole lot more to get me full. The home made prawn balls were delicious too and so was the scallop sushi and salmon sushi. I am from Melbourne and went to Palm Cove for holidays and am so glad I especially made the trip to Port Douglas for this place. Next time I visit, I will definitely be back and more than once this time!! sooooo delicious!!
I have never been bothered to write a review before but Zipangu warrants one. The best Japanese I have had - super tasty goyoza, amazing soft shell crab. Very basic looking place with only a few tables, but who needs decor when the food is amazing. Every table booked on a Tues night so get there early or book in.
Don't be deceived by its appearance. This little gem located behind the bottle shop has some really outstanding Japanese dishes. The sushi was so fresh it just melted in your mouth. The rest of the meal was also great. No need to dress up, very unpretentious with a family atmosphere.
Some of the very best sashimi I’ve ever had the mackerel lunch special is also amazing. Their hand rolls are so good. Been to lunch a. Couple times they also have tempura ice cream and tempura apple for dinner dessert sounds amazing. I read some reviews about the teriyaki chicken I generally would order the fish dishes or things beyond this if you are keen those dishes are amazing. I would say their teriyaki sauce is home made and best I’ve ever had. The prices are very reasonable for the quality the sashimi grade salmon is from Tasmania and the tuna is local. Great local Japanese family owned business.
Very good sushi and friendly service at reasonable prices. Restaurant is small so booking ahead is a wise choice for dinner. Takeaway is also available and, judging by the line of cars as we left dinner, this seems to be a popular option; prices on takeout menu are slightly lower, by a couple dollars on rolls and boxes. Note that they're closed on Sun-Mon, so plan accordingly.
We thoroughly enjoyed the sashimi combo for two (photo), with delicious salmon, tuna, scallops and kingfish, and the octopus ball starter. Sake and desserts are also available.
Lovely staff. Food was absolutely delicate and delicious. I ordered chicken kara-age dinner box and it came with large amount of chicken! Bento box also came along with miso soup and it was good, too.
Even it is a little bit pricey but still worthwhile to give it a try!
Decent japanese food and standard prices for japanese food. The dining experience in the restaurant could be improved. The menu looks quite old and the pictures were worse than the food, which was good. The building could use a coat of paint and some new furniture or outfitting. However, the food itself was great and the service was very good. Maybe best to take away and eat by the beach, just 2 min away.
I had the chicken karaage dinner box. It seemed a little pricey when I ordered it. However it was a decent portion of good quality ingredients, it was very well presented, it was tasty and it was hot. In conclusion the price was fair. The staff were very friendly and the service was great.
The service from Louise was friendly and professional. We had our mains and loved them. But we saw the Morton bay bugs and wanted more. A tempura batter and lightly fried. Well melt in the mouth. I honestly was amazed but this. Yummy. The owner also made us feel welcomed. We will be back .
It's so rare somewhere is so good, that I actually feel the need to reach for my phone and ensure they are given 5 stars.
This is by far, authentic Japanese food. It's handmade with love and care & delicious! I ordered the Eel. I confidently state it is Australias best outside of of Japan!
I like this place. Good price for port Douglas and good food. The waitress was very nice too
