Review On The Inlet - Port Douglas

Chris Vozzo
Lunch was really good, the steak burger was very nice and it was a decent serving. The pork belly salad was delicious as well. Staff were polite and friendly. Glad you have indoor dining for the air con.

Last night in Australia dinner and we definitely picked the right place. Excellent fresh fish dishes, generous portions, great service nice surroundings. We'd tried to eat here before but couldn't get in, this time we booked.
Juan Antonio Granda Ochoa
Food is ok (nothing special) but service is miserable. All our orders (4 dishes for 2 persons) were brought at the same time, so that no room was left on the table and we had to eat some of the warm dishes already cold. Waitress "trying to figure out" where spoons are. Empty plates were left on our table, despite several waiters passed by and looked at them. Amateurs.

Seriously good seafood. Staff friendly and attentive, making good recommendations (and good general conversation!) I had the chill calamari which was wonderfully soft and very, but the real star of the show was the mud crab. This does NOT come cheap but honestly, it's worth every cent. There is no dignified way to eat crab like this, but forget keeping up appearances and enjoy it - you can afford it!! A visceral experience, messy but intensely satisfying. A genuinely great dining experience. Would thoroughly recommend.

This place is pretty popular. We had the seafood platter for two and it was plenty for two. We had the crab with the Singapore chili sauce and the sauce is more tomatoey than chili spice. Service was great. If you want to just taste seafood, it's pretty good.

Delicious food but the floor team lacked information that the chef should provided to answer our general questions. Ambience was quiet at lunch time, pricing costs were average.
Alexandra Mara
We were lucky to get a table on a busy Friday evening and ordered seafood platter for 2 which was super delicious!! Staff was very friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Highly recommended!

Had the best seafood lunch here. Hands down the best seafood restaurant in port Douglas. The sashimi and prawns were fresh and delicious. House smoked barramundi rillete was out of this world. Pics- fish tacos and crispy pork belly salad, again was superb. Lovely location, great and attentive staff. Thank you for a lovely experience!
Julie Morcom
Great place to dine, service is impeccable and food to die for especially the seafood platter for two, highly recommend this restaurant

Started with the Carpaccio, melt in mouth then on recommendation the deep fried whole coral trout which was mouth watering. My wife had the mud crabs, cooked to perfection and filling. Finshed with coconut panacotta and coffee, perfect. Our waiting staff were very attentive and went out of the way to go over menu. Recommend lunch dining for the fabulous views.

Had the best oysters and coral trout here last evening. Service was friendly and prompt. Loved the choc cake with balsamic strawberry and double cream. Highly recommend as an outstanding seafood restaurant.

Absolutely amazing food Great wine list ,great atmosphere but the owner barracks for Richmond !! Would recommend in a heartbeat Must visit if you come to Port Douglas

I had dinner with my partner at this restaurant, the food looks amazing from outside table.<br/>Me and my partner decide to have our dinner at this restaurant then we ordered seafood platter for two and the wait staff introduced if we ordered crabs the price with reduced from $100 kg to $80, I’m personally love crabs then I ordered with crabs together with seafood platter, when I eat the crabs tasted unfresh the body of the crabs is empty it just come with shell, and legs.I asked the wait staff why like this and the wait staff reply to me he will let the kitchen know but he didn’t, I saw him just walk around. <br/>When I pay at the counter he said to me he already speaks to the kitchen the crabs sometimes like this, what I believe is the crabs doesn’t take from front of the display, crabs is been in the fridge too long, the wait staff ask me if I want discount, I’m not ask for discounts, all I want is don’t sell unfresh food to customer who is really like the crabs like myself . <br/>what I believe is this restaurant is really un honest including the wait staff. <br/><br/>Don’t order the crabs they displaying.

Beautiful fresh seafood! <br/><br/>We just walked in a bit later and got a table and thankfully we did. Started with garlic prawns which were fresh and tasty in a great garlic sauce which was just perfect.<br/><br/>For mains the crusted barramundi was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing, and then the fish curry which was a rendang curry was also very tasty.
Hannah Whittaker
My family and I shared the haloumi entree, bucket of prawns and sashimi! We really enjoyed the sashimi (some of the best tuna I have had in a while) and the prawns were nice! Perhaps a bit on the expensive side but the service we had was fab!

Wowsers!!! <br/><br/>It’s changed location to compete with next door! And it does!<br/><br/>Minus George the grouper (which was sad because I was excited to meet him). On the inlets food is out of control!!!<br/><br/>I had the tuna steak (they don’t scrimp on portion size) and my husband had the pork belly. <br/><br/>So unbelievably delicious and beautifully cooked proteins. <br/><br/>Recommend this place. Make sure you book. She’s a popular beast!<br/><br/>Yum

The first time I dined at On the Inlet was at least four years ago in their previous location. At that time I was unimpressed with the service, atmosphere and the value for money, as the food was nothing special for the prices they charged.<br/><br/>Well, how things have changed! I dined there this week and it was the best meal I had in Port Douglas in my recent stay. Their new location, just off the main street, is fantastic and has a better vibe to it, allowing you to eat outside in an undercover area.<br/><br/>The prawns we shared as an entree were delicious and fresh and good value for two people. My main of macadamia-crumbed barramundi, potatoes and asparagus was beautiful, and my dining companion’s fish and chips was great.<br/><br/>The service was attentive, friendly and prompt.<br/><br/>Although the prices are still on the slightly expensive side, the food quality, service and ambience has improved considerably that I will definitely make it a regular dining stop when I visit Port Douglas again.

The best Mud Crab and Barramundi we have had in a long long time. The Singapore Chilli Mud Crab has a nice spice to it. The mud crab is huge and freshest ever. It comes with a side salad and chips. Good for 2 to share. The Barramundi has such good flavours to it! We were really impressed with how well it is cooked. The seafood in Port Douglas and at this restaurant is just out of this world. We had lunch here 2 days in a row!
Bella
I will agree with the general census that it is on the pricey side but given the location it is quite understandable. The view and the vibe is work spending that little extra on that special occasion. The deep fried trout is amazing 😉
Katie Ziccone
Bucket of prawns (350gm) and a beer for $18 was a nice little combo in this expensive tourist town! We also had the mussels - the Moroccan style was definitely not short on flavour and quite overpowering, however the mussels were cooked beautifully which helped it out!
Vivian Li
Best fish tacos! Bit pricey but for the location, I’d understand why. Fish perfectly battered. Generous pieces. I’ll be dreaming about the pico de gallo salsa for a while hereon in.
Jo
Food very subpar and completely overpriced. $40 for a piece of fish. The steak was just ok again for $40, and entrees were mixed. Blackened prawns were nice but WASHED oysters I mean come on.
Arnaud Michelin
Great little place, away from the crowd which is nice.<br/>Menu is essentially fish and seafood.<br/>I ordered the sashimi plate which was fresh.<br/>I had the fish tacos as a main. They were very good. I wished I had asked if the fish was deep fried, because I would have preferred grilled.<br/>Service was great. Our waiter was very attentive and a really nice guy.
Patrick
Food was OK. Barramundi was over cooked although, friends curry looked really tasty. Great location in the heart of port Douglas. Barramundi Dip entree although was delicious.
Sabby
Dined here twice because it was so good! Their garlic bread as an entrée is a must- a crusty and buttery delight in four generous servings. All the seafood served was fresh and well cooked, the perfect diner for a seafood meal in Port Douglas. The curry was amazing, however I do wish they portioned out more rice and left out the crackers. Their fishy and chips - subject to market price, was well battered. The accompanying side salad was definitely great and simple. Seafood Laksa didn't have enough noodles and the fish inside was slightly over cooked. Loved the Chinese mushrooms in the dish, though! Coconut panacotts was also lovely, particulate the accompanying caramel. Soft and jiggly wiht freshly cut strawberries and orange.
Kerrie Gargano
My husband and I absolutely loved our meal here last night! Its one of the best seafood restaurants we've ever had the pleasure of dinning at! We shared 5 smaller plates so gave us a good variety of their menu. ! The owner and all the staff were extremely efficient and friendly Would highly recommend
Just Ate
Turns out this place has moved from “on the inlet” to at the end of the main drag. I thought this would take some of the experience away from our seafood feast. It may have a little but the quality of the food, friendliness and patience of the staff and a great drinks menu more than made up for it. Singapore chilli mud grab was great. Seafood platter was generous and top notch. The place in Port Douglas for seafood.
Desisean
This place is fantastic!! The food is delicious and the staff are friendly and attentive. We are really glad we gave this a go. Highly recommend the grilled coral trout, all I can say is that caper butter is soo good. The salmon tarido is also very tasty and fresh. I hope to be back soon!!
Gai See
Good food and great service,we had prawns, chilli crab and while coral trout along with fine other meals. The highlight of the night was our waiter, Sam. He is the textbook of hospitality and then some!<br/>
JessieJ
Absolutely fantastic service. The fish curry was amazingly creamy. The kids fish and chips were a very generous size. Must book ahead as the views are amazing at sunset
Queen Of Food
A great variety of fresh fish and good sized meals. Definitely a restaurant worth a visit while your in the Port Douglas region. Well seasoned food and the service was pretty good too.
Sreedas Balakrishnan
Overrated and overpriced. I wouldn't go to this place ever again. Food with no flavour. The crab linguini was close to inedible! The tiger prawns was as good as eating it raw!
Donmadden2
Great seafood lovely coral trout and delicious fish curry good sized meals even desserts were spectacular sorbets and the Mars bar sundae standouts
Jessica
The customer service pretty average, the food not bad I ordered the Sashimi that was amazing and the beef eye fillet with horseradish the steak, was cooked perfectly the sauce not so sure about it was in a curry sauce. I would recommend
Darren
Excellent restaurant, excellent food, great restaurant staff but unfortunately one particular rude barman. Shame that one person can let everyone/everything else down.
Lois Loves Eating
The coral trout was very delicious.... perfect for someone like me who doesn't like a 'fishy' taste.<br/>My husband had the 'spaghetti marinara ' if the prawns had of been slightly larger, he would have given this fish 12/10. As it stands, it got 10/10...... yes, it was that good. The fish was fresh and plentiful.
Randy Surujbally
Pros<br/>We had the calamari and Cajun prawn. They were great. Atmosphere is great, it was only out doors though. But there were no flies or other bugs. <br/><br/>Cons<br/>Price was high, but at par with other restaurants on the area, but smaller portions.
Dawson Brister
Oh My! The outlook is just breathtaking. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is great. The seafood is the freshest seafood I have ever had in a restaurant. First visit we had the wok tossed chilli crab. Second visit was the seafood platter. Both very generous in serving and simply just amazing. Waiter even suggested the perfect wine to pair with the chilli crab. A must visit.

The view was amazing while dining on the deck. Seeing the boats come out and back during sunset was a treat! Enjoyed a little show beforehand with George the giant grouper fish! The food on the other hand was amazing.. The seafood platter and coral trout is a must to order along with the crabs. Very succulent tasting seafood it was. Definitely recommend anyone who decides to travel to drop by and fine at this hot spot.
Brunny Girl
Nice view and cold wine. Bucket of prawns was good. The mackerel fish and chips was enjoyed by the bloke.  Pretty busy when the Grouper comes up for a feed.
Sanibonani
Overall we were quite disappointed, the cocktails were really not nice, it's rare when we don't finish one! The food was ok but no stand out. For the price there are better places to go to. The staff was great though.
Jessica
The best seafood I have ever tasted. No exaggeration! The spaghetti marinara was the all-round favourite of the night. The sardines share plate with capers and fennel were also delicious and not overbearingly salty or fishy like they can sometimes taste. The tomato and fennel was subtle but delightful addition. This place ticks all the boxes:delicious food, stunning view, and top service- I would highly recommend it!!<br/>

Maartje makes the best cocktails in town, possibly the country..... we came here every night of our holiday just for her pina coladas! We tried elsewhere too but they paled in comparison!<br/>Great service, thanks, Marrtje!!
Phil
Started well with a great table. One starter was excellent- the calamari- the chilled prawns were nice although I would have preferred if these had the tract removed. The tacos were nicer mains but I found the beer battered fish dry and I left half of it.no comment was made so maybe that's usual?? Service was on the slow side. An ordinary meal.
My Bondi Summer
An excellent choice for a seafood platter on the water. A great selection of everything tasty in Queensland. We particularly loved the oysters, they were very fresh. My only negative. Something as special as this should not come with chips in my book. This place also does a great margarita, your choice of blended or original, with or without salt. Devine.
Sean
One of my favorite places in Port Douglas. Bucket of prawns is always a great way to start. The steak is great and the tuna steak. The seafood is fresh and the place is the best place to have a meal on the marina. Great a sunset.
AF
Brilliant staff and food. Thanks for a lovely night. We got to sit on the waters edge and watch the fish. They made a tasty mocktail and some of the best seafood we have eaten.

Been here twice, a year apart once without a child and the second time with a 6 month old. The food was amazing. Get the crispy skinned barra. Absolutely superb. The seafood platter is also spectacular. <br/><br/>The thing that let us down was the customer service. First time around was fantastic, second time a dissappointment. They missed a couple of things off our order - includinf an entree of bread which might have helped with the ridiculous wait for food. Despite being the first booking of the day (lunch) and the third people in the restaurant we weren't served promptly. Had to ask to have our orders taken in the end and then waited about an hour for the food. In future I would choose from the menu beforehand and order food when drinks are ordered initially to save the long and inexplicable wait. I had to take our child for a walk because she started to get irritated sitting in the high chair for over an hour while we waited for food Once the food came it was delicious but we arrived at 12pm and didn't get our food til 1.20pm so that left a bit of a sour taste in our mouths. We were out of there by around 1.45pm. Our time eating was less than a third of our time waiting.... waiting.... waiting. <br/><br/>Views impressive also. Booking is recommended to ensure you get the better seats.

I ordered the steak with my friend this past weekend and let me just say OH KY GOD. I love a good steak and that was by far one of the best steaks I've ever had in a long long time! I live in Port for the season so I will definitely be back for a second serve!! :)
Sarah Loves Food
I went here with a friend the other night, she ordered the steak and I ordered the gnocchi with Brussel sprouts and burnt butter sage sauce. I got serious food envy because my friend's steak was amazing but my gnocchi was a bit mushy maybe it was pan fried too long, I loved the Brussel sprouts though. The next day I couldn't stop thinking about my friend's steak so I went back the next night for the steak and I went earlier so I could see the beautiful view. I had the same waitress who was very nice. When I ordered the steak I asked for medium rare like my friend and it was the best steak I've had in a long time. It came with a French cafe butter what ever that is, scalloped potatoes and beans with mild horseradish sauce. I would probably come back here for the steak and view if I come back to Port Douglas.

Great spot for a meal and drink. Excellent fresh seafood right near the water with sunset over the hills. Service was prompt from well knowledged wait staff. Recommend the calamari (entree), Spanish mackerel and Coral Trout. If I lived in PD, this place would be my a local of mine.
Richard
We have been coming to PD for 9 years now and this place was one of our faves. Went their on a recent trip and really sad to see how tired and run down it has become. The food is just OK but very expensive for what it is. Cocktails are the watery variety, seats are uncomfortable, floor looks like it hasn't been mopped in 5 years, tables are wobbly. Used to be a notch or two above the Tin Shed but has slipped a lot. Can't recommend.

This place won't win culinary gongs. But it is an honest seafood Place that serves good food at very reasonable prices. The location overlooking the river is great in the late afternoon as the sun is going down. We ate here twice in our recent vacation and have been coming here for years. The Grouper feeding is a kids favourite but most folks seem to favour eating the fish vs feeding them. <br/><br/>'Signature' dishes seem to be the seafood platters which are huge and best shared, and also the Mud Crabs which sell for about $90/kg. But the Spanish Mackerel fish and chips is cheaper and from my perspective, better eating. <br/><br/>Visit, enjoy and its fine to come in shorts and polo shirts, as this is a very casual place. And the service, like so much of Port, is friendly and energetic.
Matthew Tulk
Initially being told to wait for a table when there is plenty available annoyed me but in saying this we were 20mins early. <br/><br/>The food we has sashimi and fresh oysters all exceptional than the coral trout was excellent.<br/><br/>I tried on a few occasions to prompt them to do something special for my wife's birthday which they did towards the end but it took a bit of prompting. <br/><br/>The food was fair for the price the wines were excellent.
Silvo
Freshest and most delicious seafood in port Douglas. Flavours are all perfectly balanced and there is a large variety of different styles of seafood dishes, all cooked to absolute perfection. Enjoyed it so much we wanted to return the next evening for dinner. Great service too.
EmmDee
We called in here for sunset and the fish feeding at 5pm. Call by early if you plan to catch the fish feeding - it gets very busy very quickly. We ordered a fresh bucket of prawns and chips with drinks. The prawns were fresh and plump and the chips standard. It's the view that we enjoyed the most however, watching all the reef cruise groups return as the sun set.
SagInTheBag
Fantastic staff with knowledge of dietary requirements and menu. Food was amazing! Top notch and fresh! Great dining experience sitting in the open. Would happily go again! Highly recommended!
Carey Fletcher
The waitress was very accommodating and helpful when we told her the seafood platter for two would be too much for us. She recommended a platter for one which was perfect. Great seafood restaurant
TT
Bad service, from the moment we stepped in til we left. So many empty tables and we were told to wait 20 min to be taken to our table. Bad seafood, not fresh at all, beef carpaccio lacked flavour. I was told this place has nice view, but we went for dinner so no view at all.

We can't wait to come back here! We visited Port Douglas over New Years last year and popped into On the Inlet for their afternoon happy hour.<br/>Definitely worth a visit!! Their buckets of prawns are delicious and so fresh.. And you can throw the shells into the ocean so the fish can eat them.. And hopefully you'll get a visit from the groper! <br/>Drinks are good too, the barman definitely knew his cocktails! <br/>We didn't have a full meal here, but would love to next visit.<br/>We can't wait to come back later this year!!!
Gabby Williamson
I ate here tonight and travelling on my lonesome the staff were fantastic and so accommodating! I had a cocktail to start (On the Ginlet) and the Cajun blackened prawns (highly recommend both!) followed by there beer battered mackerel. Will be back again if not just for a cocktail, the service and the beautiful view!
Hannah.rognrust
Everyone tells you to go there to see the grouper, we went 2 nights in a row and didn't see it, so don't go just for that! If you are planning on going there for dinner make sure you make a reservation and get there at 4:30 for the 5:00 show<br/>We got the pawns and calamari for entree and they where good, calamari was over cooked a little<br/>We got the crab for dinner and wow was amazing!<br/>The staff was nice, high class for sure and a bit pricey but worth it <br/>Loved how we where on the deck and could throw our scraps over into the water and watch the fish all go for it
Juliekdownie
Poor service despite multiple empty tables. Overpriced. I asked for chips instead of salad and had one small piece of barra on a huge plate with a bowl of chips for $36. Warm wine
LNK
We have eaten at this restaurant on previous visits and were disappointed in the food for the money we paid. This afternoon we decided to just visit for the groper feeding and enjoyed a cold beer, a bucket of prawns and watching the sunset. Definitely worth visiting to enjoy a drink and the views as great location.
Bethany Reynolds
Visited here last night for dinner after a long day out snorkelling! We were sat over to the side right above the water which was perfect (away from all of the big family groups). I had the whole crispy skin snapper - my fish was big (700gm was the smallest size), and the skin was crispy to perfection! Sauce was very sweet so could have had a little more salad/something else to balance it out a bit. Husband had the tuna steak which he quite enjoyed. Was a bit disappointed that George didn't make an appearance, but I guess no one had much control over that!
David
Discovered this place on our last trip here. The food is amazing and reasonably priced. It's over the water and if you throw your cold prawn shells in you'll see the fish eating them (nice little bonus). Lastly, the staff are all amazing and on the ball. Would definitely recommend this place!
Ashley Chai
Everything was perfect! The seafood platter was a yum!!! But the oyster wasn't fresh though. Bit of disappointment. But despite that everything was perfect

A must do when in Port Douglas!! Everything we he was delicious, from mud crab to prawns to bugs. Great atmosphere and wonderful friendly staff - kid friendly with activity sheets and pencils that were sharp! Beautiful outlook as well!!

A...M...A...Z...I...N...G! Seafood is to die for! Must order the cold seafood platter. Awesome location and view too! 5 stars! Must go and check it out peeps<br/>
Cicada Gauloise
I ate there yesterday with my husband. Seafood was excellent. Service very good. I was a bit disappointed with cheesecake which was not homemade but overall we were happy with this restaurant and recommend seafood.
Kevin
I have just finished the best seafood platter in Australia. Big call i know, but look at the pictures. We had the mud crab option on top which was pricey but it is what the restaurant is renowned for. Setting w a incredible aswell right on the marina.
Mike
I would give this establishment zero, if the rating bar allowed! Currently holidaying in Port Douglas with my wife. Decided to try this venue as reviews seemed positive. Did not get off first base, the front of house man was offhand, arrogant and implied how stupid we were to turn up like that without a booking! Extraordinarily poor attitude, otherwise we would have booked for another night but not now! Thankfully we went to the Salsa Bar and Grill where the contrast in staff attitude was 180 degrees apart from this mob, well done Salsa they saved the evening for us. See separate report. Staff attitude in Port Douglas seems to be a theme of several different website reviews, very hit and miss it seems. If the attitude on the front desk of On The Inlet was anything to go by goodness knows what the rest of evening might have been like!

Bar review - fun environment to whittle away the afternoon and watch the boats come in. Happy hour from 3:30 in preparation for "George" the Grouper. Good service. Beers are cold. GREAT wine list.
Elroy J
Nice meal in relaxed surrounds on the water watching life go by. Meals are a bit pricey, but hey who cares were on holiday. Unfortunately didn't see George the Groper.
Jay Z
First impressions were not good when we were greeted by a rude and very uninterested girl at the door (girl with glasses). Thankfully the rest of the staff seemed happier and better. But given she escorts customers in she's probably not the best person to greet. <br/><br/>The feeding of the Groper fish was in progress..except there was no fish and I suspect that's usually the case but the restaurant just pretends he *might* show up just because it's a great way to get people in the door. If you read the reviews it seems more people have seen the lochness monster than George the Gropper fish. <br/><br/>The food was actually quite good. All the entrees and the mains we had were very good so no complaints on the food. The service was also pretty good once we got past the door lady. Nice atmosphere by the water watching the boats go by.

We love it!!! Food is really tasty, portions are excellent and service is superb. You must if you love sea food, fresh good quality sea food and gourmet food!

Loved this restaurant! There's a reason you have to book ahead, even when it's not peak season and you're eating at 5.30pm with a toddler.<br/>Bugs for entree were delicious. Calamari was the best I ate in and around Port Douglas. My non seafood eating hub really enjoyed his pork dish. Service was swift and friendly, even though they were busy. <br/>Views across the water were a lovely way to watch the sun set

Fantastic views and excellent fresh seafood. We jumped on the free QT resort bikes and rode down around lunchtime. Would recommend calling the day prior and reserving a table next to the water. Photo attached is the Seafood Platter.

We've been 2 years in a row and shared the seafood platter. It's not cheap but it's a fun experience to share an array of fresh seafood on the water! There's plenty of other options - all seafood so if you're not a seafood lover don't bother!WestyAA
Delectable Diner
Great relaxed meal, with one of the best locations in town, topped off with George the Groper. If you're looking for easy eating, fresh local seafood and produce this is the place for you. Grab a beer at the bar, order a seafood platter and watch the sun set over the Daintree. It's a lovely spot and the seafood is the best in town.
Iwona
Food quite nice but not great. Very expensive considering what it is. House white wine very bad. Grouper feeding a total waste of time...<br/>If you still want to see the feeding come not later than at 4pm to the bar, just for a drink...
Mij 'Casper' Duran
On the Inlet is probably Port Douglas' best positioned restaurant. Spectacular views of the waterways enhances this dining experience. <br/>They have a very good menu featuring stunning FBQ seafood like prawns, local fish and mud crab. <br/>Lots of people turn up to watch the fish feeding around 5pm. This is despite a local telling us that the grouper has not been seen for over 10 years. Nevertheless it doesn't spoil another gem in Port Douglas.<br/>Ratings out of 100<br/>Variation of menu: 75<br/>Quality of produce: 80<br/>Service: 80<br/>Cleanliness: 75<br/>Ambiance: 90<br/>Overall Rating: 80<br/>Best meals: Hard to go pass the seafood platters, sashimi plate, bucket of prawns, Mars bar sundae is amazing.<br/>

We enjoyed the fabulous views and casual breezy ambiance of this Port Douglas favorite. There was also a lively bar adjacent to the open-air dining room. Service was superb. The smoked barramundi roulette, crispy calamari and seafood risotto were all terrific. The ginormous seafood platter for two is a popular main.
Mophki
We had an amazing feast here. We ordered the seafood platter for two and were amazed at the selection of beautiful seafood. Plus the whole mud crab was just delicious. Sides that came with the seafood were unnecessary as we barely finished the seafood without touching the sides.

This restaurant is truly something else. The food is absolutely fantastic, the view is gorgeous and the staff are brilliant. We had the sashimi plate to share, then for our mains fish jalfrezi. I've never had a fish curry, and the thought never appealed to me. This was meal was a total game changer, and I couldn't wait to go back for more. Sadly, when we returned a few days later the dish had changed! Not a cheap meal, but the quality of the meal and service you receive is worth every penny.
Josie
Loved everything about this place !!<br/>Thank you !!

Yummy yummy yummy. Went tw.... Yummy yummy yummy. <br/>Went twice while we were in Port Douglas
Thefreerangeplate
Wonderful night. We were greeted with a number in which we could order from the bar and start a tab while we watched the feeding of the groper and numerous other fish. Drinks were well priced. We then were set to our table where we ordered a bottle of sparkling and entres. The oysters were fantastic. Unfortunately I missed out on the tassie steak but optioned for the seafood paella which was not lacking a thing, delicious! Our waiter was a champion and a really nice guy even taking photos of us infront of the magnificent sunset. It is really picturesque and they seat you so you have the beat view. A must go if in port Douglas, but make sure you book!
Aberdeen
Fantastic. Went here last night and loved it. Great place for a nice dinner in port douglas. Friendly service and delicious food. I had the calamari entree and the prawn pasta. I only wish I had room for dessert also! To top it off the serenity is delightful and there was a beautiful subset to watch. Highly recommended!

We ordered the OTI cold seafood platter for two...WOW it was really good for 4 people but we smashed it. OTI had very good Mai Tai cocktails, which we were looking for around the places we tried in Port Douglas. The service was very good but we were disappointed that Gorge the grouper didn't turn up at 5pm feeding time...the waitresses did encourage us to throw the prawn heads over the railing into the water and the small fishes scampered to feed on it.
Vanessa
The best seafood ever! We went twice especially for the crispy fried fish! The best meal I think we've ever had, creative and so moorish! Worth a trip!!
Sarah Taylor
The food was lovely and the outlook is amazing but gee wiz the supervisor was RUDE. Unfortunately because of that our evening was ruined and I won't go back.
Facebook User
Not happy. Tried to eat here but on walking in the waitress simply said "We're booked out dude" No come back in an hour or you might like to try restaurant x down the road - she barely looked at me - no idea and I won't try again - Groper fish or not? So much for Port Douglas hospitality?
Lucy
Me and my family came here for my mums birthday. We were disappointed with our experience.<br/><br/>We were greated by the host who was not particularly warm or welcoming. Our waitress although very nice got our order wrong twice and completely forgot we had even ordered entrees this delayed our dinner quite significantly..<br/><br/>The food was average at best. For what we were getting we felt it was very over-priced. When you pay higher end restraunt prices you expect something better. <br/><br/>The setting is very lovely tho and I'm sure this place has some potential it just didn't quite meet the standard we were hoping for.

Go for the view and the food. Our September holiday in Port Douglas included visits to a few restaurants - On the Inlet we visited 3 times in a week. Great casual atmosphere watching the boats sail past. Calamari the right texture, prawns sweet and fresh, fish curry mild but tasty. Affogato a deliciously decadent way to finish off the day.

Ordered the seafood platter which costs $180. It was a disappointment. The crayfish tastes like it was frozen, not fresh. The Singapore chili crab was far from impressive. No chili , just lots of diced tomatoes. The rest of the food was just average. I wouldn't rate this restaurant a 5-star restaurant. But you should definitely check out the toilet which is fully air-coned with a pleasant fragrance.

Disappointment. To be fair the service was wonderful. Our waiters were charming, friendly and attentive to our needs. The entrees were reasonable with the exception of the scallops. They were supposed to be pan seared but the apprentice must have cooked them because they didn't have any caramelisation on them at all. For mains I had Fish of the day curry which was a huge disappointment. The fish was SO overcooked and dry and the rice was inedible - way too gluggy and overcooked. My wife had Ocean Trout but honestly it was very pedestrian...nicely cooked fish & asparagus...for $40 that's all it was. Won't be rushing back.

Lovely meal and great service. We arrived without a booking and they squeezed us in. Looked after our kids' meals quickly. Crispy whole fish - amazing and beer battered mackerel and chips great too. We will be back soon.

We went for dinner and the food and service were amazing! The crispy fish (baby barra) was simply out of this world! It's a must!!!

Awesome lunch. A good sign of a excellent restaurant is its occupancy rate. The restaurant was booked out on our first attempt but we were able to get a reservation for lunch the next day. We are not big eaters so I ordered the Tempura battered prawns, asparagus, crab and coral trout. Just perfect. All seafood was fresh and the batter was beautiful. I had the Mars bar sundae. Again a generous serve and filling. My wife had the baby Batamundi...."The best Ive ever had" and for desert a lovely panacotta. All in all a great meal and dining experience, with courteous service. All for $105. Will book in again before we go home.

A once great restaurant sadly deteriorated - offhand service bordering on the rude.

We dined here on 22 July and the service and food were fantastic. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Prices were reasonable - we decided to share 6 entrees which average $20 each. The best dish was the carpaccio and the scallops were amazing but a bit overcooked. Overall it was a lovely dinner and good value for money.

Amazing setting and so beautiful to see the sunset. The food here is fresh and amazing!

Booked at this restaurant based on the high ratings on Urbanspoon and a few recommendations from friends but had a very bad experience. Service was terrible and not friendly and food was bland and pretty average. Don't know what the fuss is about this place and what locals are raving about

We ate here on Saturday night amazing food. Very good service. Rick our waiter was very knowledgable. Well worth a visit.

Came here four years ago and the menu appears to be the same. Service okay, food- lovely. Maybe spruce up the menu.

One of the best restaurants in port douglas. The seafood platter was one of the best I've had. The crab was cooked to perfection. The only thing i would leave off the plate would be the bugs. Lacked flavour and size. Adding calamari would be a bonus!

Go if u want Bad service. And get bitten alive. Honestly the seafood was fresh and cooked well! Butttttt the service was shocking sooo bad he forgot two dishes! And brought one out ten minutes after everyone finished and still made us pay for it . Also in an outside area like that they need to offer mosquito repettient or sitrinella candles because we got eaten alive! Go if your game.

Great. Really really good. Had sashimi and Corel trout and both excellent. Good way to end our trip

Worth It. I usually write any restaurant experiences (good or bad) down in a file for me to refer back to you but after a short lesson from my daughter I have discovered Urbanspoon, little black book no more! During our recent trip to Port Douglas we were recommended this place by the owners of the hotel we were staying at and they were right. The food was superb and the environment was casual yet still intimate for a quiet meal for two as well. Great fish options and beautifully cooked and fresh. We will definitely be back.

We ordered the seafood basket. Whilst expensive, it was worth every penny! The lemon butter sauce with the crab was mouth-wateringly delicious. The sashimi simply melted in your mouth. Definitely made our stay in port douglas more memorable.

Great service. Fantastic food. Excellent catering to parents and kids.

Humble surroundings, great food. We're suckers for Jap mayo oysters and the 350g prawns were really fresh and meaty. Curry Ok petty tasty. Red emperor not the best pick either, prob more bad selection than anything

My family an I had a variety of different meals including kids meals, crab and fish. Food was fantastic however the service was hit and miss, as soon as the mains where complete it the service became slow. Even when trying to pay the bill was slow and when I did it felt like another tourist finished lets get another in. As mentioned food was great, service needing improvement especially if your a tourist!

Great Atmosphere. Oct 2013 had a wonderful dinner with kids. Table was right near water and kids enjoyed looking over - too late to see George and im sure it would have been even better during day light. Casual relaxed surrounds, we chose fried whole Barramundi, so delish with cameralised onions, would order again. Both children happy with their choices of fish/chips, calamari. Only minor item to ask for mozzie spray for legs - they have them at counter. Good for groups too.

Incredible seafood but long wait. This restaurant was our last stop before leaving Queensland. Service was a bit hit and miss (I get that it's sunny out but it really is disconcerting to be interacting with a staff member in opaque sunglasses) and we waited 40 minutes for our food even though the restaurant was only half full. All that aside, the food! Oh the food! Hands down the best seafood meal we've had (tried the prawn and scallop in butter sauce entree, coral trout, and curry mackerel). Lovely views too.
Tom
Efficient friendly service, accommodated two small children, beer was cold and most importantly the food was very good. I had the crispy fried whole coral trout - 9/10. Finally, the atmosphere and view over the ocean was spectacular.

Amazing food! Great ambiance. Good idea to book on the weekend.

Unfortunately missed lunch, still the tasty mackerel on the bar snack menu was a reasonable size meal. Try to get there at 5 to see the groper feeding, looked like most of the restaurant was booked out despite a quiet night in QLD

Pricey but absolutely delicious, excellent, friendly service and gorgeous views. Recommend booking ahead.

A+ here. Tip top genuine beautiful seafood platter. Easily big enough for 2. Waitress very friendly and accommodating.

Went here last night. The food was sensational. This is coming from a melbournite. It was generous, flavoursim and importantly incredibly fresh. I had the 350g prawns entree which was very good. The barramundi - well - you couldn't get better anywhere else, it was amazing. Mrs is not into sea food so she had steak Fillet which was cooked to perfection and the quality beats most steak houses in Melbourne. I didn't find it pricey because quantity and quality were high. Service was just ok nothing special.

Great service, fantastic food and an overall super night. Whole fried fish was a great experience.

What an amazing place! exceptional food, freshest fish and wonderful service from the team at On The Inlet! Highly recommend this place! 10/10!!!!

Best meal in north qld. Fabulous food & exceptional service! The carpaccio of beef & sushi entree were a refreshing start. The tuna was perfectly cooked with flavoursome Asian style accompaniments & the curry style fish was sensational. Would definitely return when we're back in Port Douglas.
Hungermonster
Good food, great view, lovely service. Only complaint is it was 35 degrees when we went and it was outdoors with fans (no aircon). Otherwise, nicely done OTI!
Lulu
Up in port for holidays and have so far dined here twice. The food is fantastic - beef cappaccio is a must!! Coral trout beautiful too. However I think the decor and actual restaurant is in need of a full reno at the prices per meal ($35 main). The bathrooms are worse than a shopping centre and the chairs and tables are no better than outdoor settings. Come for the food but don't expect fine dining atmosphere. Stand out waiter we had both times. Don't recall his name but he was informative & cheerful!

In my opinion this is a must do up here even if its just for beers or cocktails around 5oclock. Staff were very attentive and quality food. Great spot to watch the sunset and really relax
Sam
Lovely staff and very knowledgable!<br/>Spaghetti with prawns ($32 - the best I've had) and beer battered Spanish mackerel (23.5) absolutely divine! We really enjoyed our night, great atmosphere and well priced food!<br/>Will be back :)

Beautiful service staff were friendly food was excellent

Gone down hill. Been coming here for 10 years and whilst the menu remains the same the quality of the food has not. Very disappointing dinner last night. Won't be back unless it changes hands
Ben Clarke
Brilliant seafood restaurant located at the mouth of the inlet with spectacular views of the sun setting across the water. I've been here 3 times in 3 visits to port Douglas and its always been amazing. Great dining that can't be missed. Get there for the sunset

Pay for the view.... My fiance and I went here for a romantic Friday night dinner recently while on holiday in Port Douglas. We ordered the Haloumi to share for entree and both ordered the Crispy Skin Barramundi for main. The meals were nice and we ate every bit but quite expensive ($17 for Haloumi, $35 per main). The view was also stunning. Although the furniture and decor was more reflective of a backyard BBQ which was a shame. The staff were nice although very casual and our waiter couldn't remember the specials. <br/><br/>All in all, the food is good and so is the view, but when the view fades into the night and you're left sitting on your neighbours backyard furniture setting, the food prices could stand to be lower.

Good value for money & service. Morton Bay bug penne & Barramundi main were great. Great location to watch the yachts roll in to the Harbour. George the Groper adds something a bit different if he turns up for his 5pm feed.

On the Sunset. If location means anything, this says it all.............I have been to this restaurant many times over 10 years. It was a fantastic place to come and eat fresh fish, but visiting this place lately has dwindled my expectations. What's changed.... the chefs, owner or the produce?? It's not great like it was years ago. The service is okay; if they're busy, good luck! The food, like I said, it's not what it used to be. Like pub-grub now. Though, nice place to be during sunset, with a couple of wines in tow.

Two tries at Tuna!!!!. For a seafood restaurant, they couldn't get the Tuna right. I ordered the tuna - pink in the middle. The first time it came out super well done. It was like cardboard. The waiter was kind enough to replace it... However the 2nd time, it wasn't much better either!!! It was still overdone and cooked all the way through. <br/>My partner had the crispy fried trout and I had the scallops with prawn tortellini for entrees. The trout was tasty, but the scallops and prawns were tasteless. Likewise for the mains - my partners salmon was average at best. There was no flavour in any of the food. <br/>The venue was amazing with fantastic views over the inlet. The service was efficient and friendly. The food however was totally dissapointing.
Gemma
We had the seafood platter. Beautiful and fresh- more than enough for two people. The service was also very very good

Great location, food and service. Really enjoyed our meal. We ha the tuna cooked medium / rare and the barramundi both were excellent.

Once again OTI has come up with the goods. I have been coming here for the best part of 15 years and it has yet to turn out a bad meal. The wine list and bar are good and if you are lucky you might catch george. The wait staff are attentive and know their menu, the location is rustic, yet soothing, and the seafood platter, well, stave your self and have a go! 10/10!!!!

Memorable dining. This is a very special place. A fabulous aspect with the tables located on the water overlooking views of large yachts and a beautiful inlet! The food is great! Large serves, innovative recipes with a touch of Moroccan flavors. The seafood is fresh and the Oysters Kilpatrick are almost a standalone meal. We had 5 nights in Port Douglas and ate here 3 nights. Why? Because it's great! Highly recommended.
