Of course the world’s most liveable town needs to have its own artisan ice cream. Victoria’s Port Fairy was awarded that accolade in 2012 – heritage seaside location, lively arts scene, great restaurants and cafés. And the town’s Poco Artisan Ice Cream produces its signature frozen treats in-house from quality ingredients.
The tiny shop has just 12 flavours but they change every day. Great flavours and generous serves.
Poco is very popular, but check opening hours before you visit – outside the peak holiday season it may only be open on weekends and it is closed over winter.
This place is a must when you visit Port Fairy. Good varieties of flavours and really creative. Love all the flavours but it would be even better if they can use a bigger cone as it got pretty messy when the ice cream melted. The cone was a bit too small for 2 scoops of ice cream.
Line was out the door five minutes after they opened. Super popular place with amazing ice cream. All ice cream is homemade. You can never pick more then one flavour so they do cups up to four scoops. Great flavour and great quality.

"Just get a tub from IGA for $1.99," said my father-in-law, half jokingly. He was not the type of man to wait for anything, especially if there wasn't an ice cold beer in hand. So needless to say he didn't wait with us as we queued for some ice cream.
We waited about 20 minutes for the ice cream but was the wait worth it? Yes, yes it was.
There was only one man on duty when we went, presumably the owner. He had a gentle smile, kind eyes and generous scooping. One scoop from Poco is the equivalent of 1.5 scoops from the likes of Messina.
There were a wide range of flavours inside this bright and rustic shop. On the day we went there were vanilla bean, "old salty" salted caramel, blueberry meringue, banana and milo, strawberry, choco classic, rose lemonade, bounty, hazelnut, salty macadamia and chocolate, and nectarines. There was also pannacota but it ran out.
We had the blueberry meringue (5/5), banana and milo (5/5), rose lemonade (3/5) and salted caramel (4/5).
The man with the kind eyes also quietly rounded down the price of our ice creams, giving us a discount. Will definitely come back again next time we're in Port Fairy.
Delicious ice cream with a range of unexpected flavours not just the usual chocolate and vanilla. Especially loved the chai flavour. So yummy!

Amazing ice cream on a quiet corner. The genuine quality of the ingredients can be tasted in the amazing flavours. Well worth a visit if in Port Fairy, the best ice cream I have tasted.
Delicious ice cream with a great variety of flavours and dietary options. The flavours are immense and nothing like what you'd get in most other ice cream places. It's on par with Miinot in Pascoe Vale South in terms of decor and taste. Definitely come by here and chill on the grass with your colourful cup of frozen cream!
I found this ice cream parlour using Zomato, a nice dark green rating to follow our yummy dark green rated lunch at The Farmer's Wife.
We were all happy with our choice of flavours. Mine was Black Sea, salted white chocolate with a sprinkling of black sesame seeds. It tasted like white chocolate without the sweetness and a touch of black sesame ice cream (without the grey). I wonder if Poco could talk council into letting it have some day-time only seating outside or around the corner. We sat in our car to eat ours, but Poco's surroundings would be perfect.
The only blemish was a local customer who walked in and dismissed us with, "They want waffle cones." I wasn't aware there was a cone hierarchy but the proprietor, in a difficult position, wordlessly served him first. Don't these arseholes realize that their town lives and dies by tourism? If I went to Port Fairy again, I'd visit Poco, but next time I visit Warrnambool, I'll probably give Port Fairy a miss due to this bad experience.
The best ice cream you can get! Even my 85 year old mother says it's the best she's ever had. Love their old salty, burnt fig, lemon&agin get, poco choc, after dinner mint ..... The list goes on. Different flavours each day you can't help but keep going back! Yummmmm!
Great little ice cream shop, wide selection of flavours with a delicious creamy texture. Definitely one of the best ice creams I've had in a long time.
Nice surprise finding someone doing good quality ice cream in Port Fairy, and some innovations in flavour combos without being too out there. Nice guy too.

European Quality in Port Fairy!. Having visited Port Fairy on a number of occasions we generally made a bee line for Rebecca's for our holiday ice cream treat. This last stay we wandered past Poco a couple of times early in the holiday, and wondered why the long queue every time. We decided to jump on the end after tea one night, and it was well worth the wait. We chalked up 5 visits over our stay and enjoyed every flavour we tried. Apart from stalwarts like Poco choc, the choice changes daily, and includes Turkish delight (you can taste the hint of rose water - indeed delightful), to After dinner (dark dark chocolate with mint - devilishly good), Malt shake (my son's favourite), and Cafe Europa (even Melbourne coffee aficionado's will like this coffee and chocolate blend). You are spoilt for choice. Not cheap, but quality!

Nice variety that seems changes regularly. A bit small, but was well worth the 15 minute wait in the queue.
This is seriously THE BEST ice cream, both me & my partner have eaten. We could have gone back for more, only the queue decided for us. Terrific, you'll not be disappointed. Stop by & try, even if it's the only thing you do in Pt Fairy
Super popular ice cream spot in town - expect a queue any time of the day. Queue moves very quickly. Great selection of flavours, some standard ones and some quirky ones too. Delicious ice cream!

Insanely delicious ice cream at great prices. Poco need to franchise and expand their artisan methods to bring their ice cream to the rest of Australia.

I have tried all the icecream shops in town and this one is head and shoulders above the rest. SO WHY IS IT ONLY OPEN ON WEEKENDS. The flavours are strong and enduring, portion size is generous, the selection size is not large, but they have proven that what they do have will draw in the crowds. Just see the queue to understand how good it is. People are prepared to wait 15mins to be served rather than going elsewhere and being served immediately.
Really nice gelato, a variety of different flavours, I tried the amarena cherry and the dairy free lime and coconut I believe... had a very smooth consistency and you can actually taste the flavours. The dairy free options look really good too, would come again if I ever go to Port Fairy.
Yummy Ice-creams, nice vibes and friendly staff. We went here on two of our three day stay at Port Fairy because we loved their icecreams.
They had different icecreams on both days. It's good and bad as we went to try the flavours we missed on day 1 only to find they are not on the menu on day 2. Good news was there were more new flavours to try on the day 2 😀
We loved our Mascarpone Orange, tiramissu, mango, pistachio, cherry ripe flavours. They were all so yummmmmm. Highly recommended !!
We make the trip to Port Fairy every Easter and always visit Poco. Interesting flavours and delicious creamy ice cream.
As the only one ice cream shop in port fairy it’s nice for the child have sweet memories in childhood. Only open on weekend and have a long closing time in winter. But have delivery in whole year :)
Simple decoration for inner and simple symbols outer to recognize. Love the whole feeling of the package design, it’s a nice choice for buying as a gift!
