Review Suzu - Port Macquarie

Allen Neil Pajarellano
The service was quick and efficient although I was turned away here the first time for not having a booking. Thinking how many customers are eating at this place I assumed it was really good but it's just ok. Ramen is far from a real ramen, broth was nothing tonkotsu but more like a salted cream or milk and the sprouts tasted like they were 3-4days old. Double crunchy prawn is alright and the cream cheese is best left for salmon but it is crunchy though. Anyone who'd think its the best never had proper japanese meal. Makimoto is even better.

Informal Saturday lunch. We ate from the lunch menu and both had Bento boxes. Food was not served in a bento box and lacked the normal finesse of a Japanese restaurant. Chicken karage was small, salmon sashimi was good quality, however had bones, salad was undressed, vegetable tempura used old vegetables. I've had better.

The meal set was good but definitely avoid the Katsu curry, the chicken was dry and thin, no seasoning. The curry is way under seasoning, when chicken already no seasoning and dry, you need a bit saltier curry and much more curry to balanced out, so little curry as well.

Not impressed with my takeaway saikoyaki kingfish, which ended up being a fried salmon even though the restaurant double-confirmed it was the right dish. Overall, food was okay but slightly overpriced for its quality.

My girlfriend and i were really looking forward to Japanese for dinner. Sadly this place is a complete disappointment. One star is seriously too much credit for this place. We never even got to try the food ( although looking reviews now we are glad we didn't!). Our order was delayed because they mixed ours and two other tables up. Then after 35 minutes wait we were asked to reorder again! We got up and walked out! This is the first time I have ever walked out of a restaurant in disgust with the service. Service was shockingly bad and staff really looked uninterested in their job. Will never recommend, or visit this restaurant again. We left and had dinner at The Beach House a couple of doors down. A great experience here in service and food!

Food was really good, however service is not great, staff looked annoyed every time we were interacting.

We dined here last year and rated 5 out of 5, so headed back this weekend. Disappointed with service. We were shown to one table then redirected a corner table. We had no one explain about the new QR ordering system, had to ask for a menu as these were not shared. There was no images with the QR menu either, so we could not visualise the options, nor ask the waiter. Then as the food came out, we again had to ask for condiments. Food still lovely, but as modern technology has been embraced, they have lost the great ambience and customer service from last year. :(

Good variety of Japanese sake and wines. Food was good. Friendly service, we didn't have a booking but it was great getting in last minute. Oysters were tasty but the sauce didn't match the menu we ordered suzu oysters (red onion vinegar ) but it was more of a beetroot flavour. Couldn't taste the onion or vinegar still tasty though. That's why I'm giving them 4 stars out of 5. Will be back because of the service and authentic Japanese food

Hands down the best Japanese food I have ever had. This is my favourite place to eat now in port with the best food, the best view and the best service!

What an absolutely gorgeous place! The food is fresh, authentic and delicious! Prices are great as well, we got away with a full meal, drinks and deserts for under $80! The atmosphere is lovely as well! I've always loved Maki Moto but this will for sure be our new go to place for Japanese cuisine can't recommend it enough!

We have been working our way through the Japanese in town: we have been to Makimoto and Sushiko, both of which are excellent and probably on a par. We went to Suzu for lunch and maybe we got them on a bad day based on other reviews but the food was way below the standard of the others. We ordered a mixed seafood dish which was mostly rice with a tiny serve of veges and literally one tiny prawn, one small piece of squid and one tiny piece of fish. Yes, mixed all right but a total rip off for the price charged. The atmosphere is lovely, the waitress was very friendly but the food was a huge disappointment. I don't understand why a restaurant with so much high calibre competition would serve dishes like that. :( Sorry but we won't be back.

Certainly the best Japanese restaurant in Port Macquarie and by far the best value for money! Freshest sashimi I have had in a while. Great service, friendly welcoming staff, fabulous decor and the best views if you are sitting outside! A great new addition to the Port dining scene.
