Review Hortas - Port Noarlunga

Ben Sia
Extremely great hospitality by the waiter and waitress when we were there on 13 July 2022 for a lunch. We never felt so pampered by them even before we had placed our orders. We had ordered 2 sole, fish chips and lamb shank for our group of 5. The sole fish was well baked and the salt used for the baking was just nice. Noticed that the fries that came with the sole fish dish was slightly salter. I think it is used to complement the sole fish which was lighter in taste. The sole is fresh and the meat was firm when broken by the fork. I had also tried some of the fish and chips and my group members claim this is the best place for fish and chips! The lamb shank was also delicious and my other friend who was adverse to lamb meat was surprised that the lamb shank had no gamey taste or smell after we encourage him to try a bit. Overall, both the young lady waitress and waiter had done a terrific job in serving us and make us feel at home! Thank you!

Have been there once and ordered their shared seafood plate for 2 which was very fresh and delicious. Very friendly staff and the dish was served in under 20 minutes. There were however 2 negative points I would like to share that I believe $150 was a bit harsh for the dish as mussels were the most of the dish content (about 40!) and we left 17 of them at the end (last photo).

Have been here multiple times, Phillipe and his team are sensational, the food is fantastic, and come as ordered. Best steak I have had ever and the seafood platter was amazing. Also an amazing choice of wines. He was also very accommodating and lovely with the children

Amazing food! Quick efficient service!! Friendly staff. šŸ™‚ The lovely owner offered our very well behaved children free ice-cream. Kid friendly!! We were very well looked after. Obrigada šŸ™

Fabulous as always. Fantastic food, the best view in Adelaide, friendly staff. We have been coming here since they first opened and it just gets better and better. The Cabana Club and Cabana Beach are a great addition during summer.
Kim Davis
Absolutely amazing. We both ordered the beef fillet, with sides of squid & arancini. Everything was delicious but the beef was beyond anything weā€™ve ever tasted before.
Tim Manfield
I have been here for many years and the restaurant and it's staff are the most friendly and highly professional I have ever met, capable of telling you about your meal as well as your cutlery, every dish I have ever had here has been fantastic but you must not skip past the seafood platter for two if your ready to open your wallet you and a friend or two will not regret this experience for any occasion. My highest compliments to this incredible experience at an amazing location.

Hands down the best seafood restaurant we have tried in a long time. To start with, highly recommend the seafood chowder followed by Cataplana seafood dish for mains and finishing off with a wonderful dessert called Pudim Flan similar to a creme caramel just more delightful. Customer service and ambience were outstanding. The window seat with a view to the ocean and complimentary Portuguese ports by the owner topped the evening off. Definitely be back!!!!

Went for lunch. We were expecting good food and that's exactly what we got. The seafood chowder is the best we've had in a long time. We followed with some tapas dishes, delicious. Dessert was the Portuguese Molotov, well balanced in flavour. Can't wait to get back.

Gorgeous fit out overlooking the beach. We stopped here for dessert and were impressed with the chocolate parfait, mango pannacotta and cheesecake. Friendly staff. I'd love to come back for lunch or dinner.

First time at Hortas as a very good cook myself cooking in restaurants, I can say the Seafood Chowder is the best I've ever had along with the salt and pepper squid.... Desserts were to die for also, great pretension, friendly staff who are on the ball watching for service...Definitely be back....

Lovely view. Staff very attentive. Food was nice but I expected better for the price. An expensive restaurant for the south, and as such I expected food of a superior quality.

really nice location for a restaurant, saw the sunset from the table. food came out relativley quickly. we ordered a seafood platter, everything was delicious especially the fish and salt/pepper squid. A bit messy, but was a good meal overall.

My dish the chick pea ragu was absolutely delicious. Good portion size as well.Ā
Potato mash was way too buttery!, Am i complaining about more butter??Ā
ha ha... It was good enough and the right portion size.Ā

The rest of the feedback below is from others in the group.
Wild Barramundi was fabulous. Lapped every last drop of it.
Steak was chewy so wouldn't get it again.
Chowder was average, potato wasnt cooked properly. Mussels were negligible.Ā
Vegetable Skewers was great. Unsure of the lentils with it but it was good.
Overall most of us had a great time.Ā
The service was fantastic, so makes up for a few food blunders I guess.

Recent visited on a beautiful sunny day and had lunch at this restaurant. We shared some oysters to start, they were tasty but on the smaller side. I had the rosti with smoked salmon for my main which was again tasty. Husband had the squid salad but it was more like salt and pepper squid with a side salad. This filled the spot and was enjoyed. Staff were friendly but it did take a while for our mains to come out. We were lucky enough to have an outdoor table on the balcony which offers one of the most beautiful views of an unspoilt coastline you could ever want. We would go back again for lunch on a summer day for sure.

Booked for lunch today with my wife service was great staff were great food was great balcony table views are absolutely fantastic thank you we will be back

The service here was impeccable! I really enjoyed seeing the interaction between the staff and my friends daughters.

The food was a bit fussy. I found it hard to concentrate on the guest of honour with the swinging skewers of seafood dangling at the table. I think I blushed when they arrived. šŸ˜³That said I'll be back to try the seafood special my neighbour had, with the bread to mop up the juices, that looked fresh, simple and delicious!
BeHa
Fabulous location, friendly & knowledgeable staff, varied & well-priced menu - will definitely visit again when back in the area. Love the tapas menu!
Monika
Stopped by just for a drink. Very friendly and fast service - and also a great view to go with it. They aren't fussy about dress code even though it has a nice atmosphere, not just a beach shack!
Michelle
Amazing sea views and food was quite yummy. Service was a bit slow but very friendly.

Adventures In Winterland
On a perfectly warm afternoon, Mum and I headed down to Port Noarlunga for lunch with a craving for fish and chips. Wandering around, we saw the beautiful location of Hortas looking out over the water and were sold. We sat out on the balcony and ordered two serves of the fish and chips. The food came out surprisingly quickly, as we were commenting that sitting on the deck felt like lounging at a friendā€™s place, it was so relaxing and comfortable! The plates were huge, with two pieces of beer-battered garfish, a mound of chips, a bowl

A beautiful meal and great service. I had the fish special, salmon on a bed of couscous. Light and fresh. My husband had the steak, perfectly cooked. The chocolate fondant was the best I've had. Very enjoyable.

Just had the most disappointing dining experience all week while on holidays in South Australia. Sad as the view was exceptional. Redeeming feature, when the hostess asked if we enjoyed our meals and I gave feedback, we got our meal for free. Won't go back but thankful they know how to give good service and be professional when receiving negative feedback.

Note: Starters: flavourless herb and garlic bread - only lingering taste was that of burnt or stale oil.

Mains: prawn and pistachio stuffed chicken breast - not able to see or taste the stuffing in any way, duck fat potato was not present as the 3 rounds of potato on plate had no crisp and had soaked up the sugo flavours.

Beef cheeks and gnocchi - gnocchi was too soft and had no definition of flavour (tasted as if it had been frozen and thawed) beef cheeks were reasonably well cooked but excessively fatty and inedible. Dish had no flavour

Best seaside restaurant in Adelaide!. Hortas has a brilliant location and is absolute beachfront. The views are beautiful, especially from the balcony seats where we sat. The staff were very warm and welcoming and there were absolutely no hiccups with what we ordered. We actually were running 30 minutes late and I phoned to let them know and they were still wonderful and gave us a great table. The food was beautiful, we ordered tapas. The portions were very generous and delicious. We will definitely be back!
LBA
Good food, good location. Went in for a light lunch, shared tapas. Tasty dishes but a little on the pricey side.
Lush.deanna
Not that impressed. Food was expensive for what you received, chips were barely cooked, tomato was on its way out. Menu lacked choice, specials were more expensive than the regular mains! The only thing that saved the experience was the view and the weather.
Derfestivalzone
Mixed results. Last time we went we received Luke warm coffee and a chai latte that was almost one third froth.
Also had to wait about 15 mins to get this.
About a year back had good meal and service, might just be an off day or because we were only having drinks. Wasn't very busy either, best thing about it is the location

Southern delight. We had dinner here sat night ... walked in and there was a live guitarist playing which set such a lovely mood. The staff got off to a shaky start with a spilt wine glass on the table but dealt with the situation perfectly. The food wa s delicious the staff were attentive without being intrusive and I thought it was wonderful. Evetybody at the table enjoyed it and I wish this restaurant all the success as it is a lovely restaurant in a truly beautiful spot.

We keep going back. I can not understand some of the negative comments regarding this restaurant. We've dined at Hortas as a couple and with friends many times over the last few years. We have taken several couples from overseas to Hortas for a "sunset" dinner and neither they or we have ever been disappointed. Million dollar views, fantastic friendly service and best of all, the choice of Tapas or traditional fare. The menu choices are balanced and of excellent quality and quantity. The wine list is comprehensive and well chosen. The attentive staff makes dining at Hortas a pleasure. We eat out often, from the inexpensive to the not so inexpensive, and we consider Hortas to be one of the best value for money restaurants along the foreshore.
Pleasantperson
Dissatisfaction! Disappointed! Downright disgraceful. A pleasant surrounding with very little to accompany it. Staff with little to no knowledge of the menu or wine list. When finally our initial order was taken our ditty waitress needed to confer with the kitchen to assure "something" was available. Not recommended by me at all.

Hortas is a fantastic restaurant with magnificent food and wonderful service, I really enjoy dining there and believe it is a lovely place for a relaxing lunch or a nice evening dinner.

Choose somewhere else. Slow service
Fish oily and chips limp and cold
Mould on lettuce
Incorrect meals
lost style with children's menu on cheap colouring in page
Water jugs that when served by waitress spills onto table
disappointing to say the least way over priced.
Lucky the cake my niece bought to celebrate her. Birthday was delicious.

Overprice. Unfriendly staff.. Went there last month. Overprice, very small portions for the tapas, and only gave one piece of bread each?! We have to keep reorder the bread so it ridiculous. Unfriendly staff, waited long to refill water. Only gave us a glass of water each but other table they gave a bottle of water to refill themselves. Won't go there anymore.

Fantastic. Great meal in a beautiful setting food was 10/10
Fish cooked to perfection ,desert simply delightful highly recommend

Great food, great views. I had lunch here yesterday. It was a full house but the service was excellent. The food was wonderful, well cooked and nicely presented. The views out over the Port Noarlunga reef and the sea were just stunning. Well worth a visit!

I will be back!. We just had our Work Christmas Lunch at Hortas and were all very happy with the food. I can recommend the pork belly!!! The food came out all at the same time, the drinks and the water kept getting topped up. And the setting...perfect, especially on a hot day! I found the staff very attentive. If there was anything I would criticize, it would be the noise level. But that seems to be the modern trend: to have no soft furnishing to absorb the chitter chatter of the other guests. Having said that, I will be back next week!

Ladies Lunch at Hortas. Lovely lunch at Hortas today - million dollar views over the Pt Noarlunga Reef and jetty. Light lunch menu available and no problems with bill splitting. Efficient service with polite and obliging waitresses (our waitress even set up a table outside for the 10 of us so we could discuss our Book Club book away from the noise inside). Much appreciated. We will be back.

....soaking up summer. I returned to Hortas today for lunch after a couple of months away. Divine setting in the sunshine over the gorgeous Port Noarlunga jetty. The staff were attentive and extremely friendly and helpful as always. After trying a delicious Spanish sparkling white wine on their recommendation, I settled in to review the new menu. I had their fabulous Atlantic salmon, cooked to perfection! Hortas is consistently great - well done!!
Ricky
Meh. Yeah pretty average , the food was a tad rough and the wait staff were even rougher
not really a family or even a romantic environment really the waitstaff Bronwyn I think it was talks more profanity than a pirate, deserves to be on a tall ship instead of near a jetty
Makesy
Not cheap but worth it. Me and my wife have both eaten here together and with others multiple times and have always had great service and good food. It's a fantastic setting obviously, and the restaurant definitely fits well there. If there was any negative i'd have it would be that the menu can be a bit limited, which i'm assuming is because they use fresh produce so don't want to over cater, which is better than getting frozen food anyway! We've never had any issues with waiting times etc like other people have mentioned even during busy days. I guess that may depend on what staff are on for the day, but we've been there at least six times and had no issues. It's great to have a decent restaurant just around the corner!

Great food, friendly service and a world class location. Can recommend the tapas and lamb kebabs highly!
Local
I was very disappointed after i went in for dinner the previous weekend, the staff had no idea about the menu or wine list!i had to keep asking for water and drinks that never arrived, after complaining that the food was taking ages i was completely ignored! Then the Bill slapped on the table which they never came to pick up! I left feeling ripped off and angry that this is a local eatery!

Very Poor Service. Went for dinner on Saturday night and we were shown to our table outside was a lovely setting. Our waitress gave us our menus and took our wine and orders. Then that was pretty much the last we saw of her. We got our wine and our starters and never saw them again - not even to remove the dirty plates from our starters.

We waited nearly 2 hours for our main and never got it. The waiting staff are shocking - they have no idea or do not care about customer service. As for the kitchen 2 hours to wait for two pieces of grilled fish!! Very very very poor.

We are locals and will not be back - what a joke this restaurant is.

Food Orgasm at Hortas. I'm a little surprised at some of the negative feedback against this Restaurant. Guess that is the beauty of diversity and personal opinion. However for those who base their decisions on urban gossip, here's my 5 cents worth for consideration. My wife and I love discovering a good place to eat. I have the tummy to prove it. We get around when it comes to fine dining and one thing we look for in a fine restaurant is outstanding customer service, interesting and delicious food and value for money. Not value for money in the way of skimping price to get maximum flavour but value in paying good money for exquisite food in an inviting environment. For those seeking maximum food for minimum price, check out a place called McDonalds, you may of heard of it :)

For us, Hortas ticked all the boxes and we would rate this Restaurant one of the best in the whole Southern area of Adelaide. The food was amazing and the flavour and effort which goes into the food matched the price. Worth every cent and even a decent tip on the way out. We've been here many times and will be back many more. Never had a problem, staff our lovely, view is amazing and love this place, South Adelaide's best kept secret!

Terrible Service. Have never waited so long to order to be treated as rudely as I was here. The cakes are cheap and taste disgusting, the menu seriously needs an update (hasn't changed much since it opened and nothing is that good it should stay on the menu). It's disappointing as I live nearby and would love for this place to be somewhere I can regularly go.
Danny Boi
Terrible. The only thing upmarket about this sorry disaster is the prices of food - which is abysmal. I'm gob-smacked there are any positive reviews, let alone good ones. The staff are beyond disinterested, and outrageously slow. We were in there 2 hours despite not even having a main meal between us. We had a dips plate that was $18 but wasn't worth $2. The pitta was dry and stale and the dips were bland. We then shared some tapas which took another 45 minutes following the dips and every single dish consisted of the exact same source base. It all reeked of pre-packaged microwaved slop. Still unsure about why it also took 30 minutes to bring us a Diet Coke as well. I wouldn't eat here again if it was free.

A beautiful place a the food its magnifique !!

Loved it! Was looking for something down south that was classy enough without a pub type menu, and we found it! We were the only people there, so we got excellent service, quick meals, and the company was great which made the night very successful! After the main meals, one of the staff picked up on the fact that we were there for someone's birthday, they went the extra mile with presentation on the desert with 'happy birthday' written on the plate in chocolate ! Then, as we left, and proceeded to drive off, one of the staff members ran out in the rain to catch our car, because something was left on the table which was unexpected and lovely
We left happy, full, and content after great meals, a table next to the fire, along with great service and company! Would happily return

Great upmarket beachside restaurant. Relaxed with muted lighting and great staff and service. Tapas servings were huge. We had pork belly with broad beans, stuffed baby squid and proscutio wrapped meatballs - all really tasty and delicious. Will certainly be back
Southern Diner
Boss needs to be present!. Been 4 times, unfortunately last 2 , service was disappointing as owner not there, customers sat out side, had to get up & get their own drinks 3 times, when I sat outside with a friend we had to get up to ask for desserts & drinks, prawn skewers $31.50 for 4 prawns! Not good value & ordinary tasting, steak pretty good, & kangaroo, needs to be consistent to survive ! Thought it was going to be our new local :(
Chatty
Excellent food, awesome staff who went the extra mile in making sure we had a great choice of gluten free options.
I cannot remember when we have had such a fabulous meal anywhere else in Adelaide. My wife licked her plate clean (not pretty to watch) the food was that good!
Can highly recommend - the view is an added bonus.

Our wedding at Hortas was AMAZING. Our experience for our wedding was absolutely amazing!!! All of our guests loved their food, the timing was perfect, the waitresses & waiters were efficient, friendly & onto it, no one was without a drink the whole night.

The atmosphere is incredible, i feel there is no other place in Adelaide that has the extraordinary view & scenery that we had from our table. Our balcony was literally over the sand. Unique, fresh, bright & open.

Organising a wedding from interstate isnā€™t easy but they made our experience a relaxing & easy process. The owners were professional in looking after us & went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for our special day. We could really see that they genuinely cared about making everything perfect.

I would highly recommend this venue for your wedding!!!!

THANK YOU HORTAS xxxxxxxxx

WOW. Just had a meal at Hortas. First timer and wow what a meal. Tapas was excellent as was the Chicken Skewers but the Ocean Trout was perfect. Would highly recommend. 3 courses and a bottle of wine $150 for two is great value.
BeckyBoo
Absolutely Fantabulous 10/10. What a sensational meal tonight at Hortas. We started off with a Tapas trio for $36 which was to die for and left us just enough room for dessert. The garlic bread was the best we had ever had. For dessert we had a Molotof which totally melted in my mouth and a Coffee Creme Brulee. The atmosphere and views were worth a million dollars, the service was excellent and we wanted for nothing. Yet another great eating place at Port Noarlunga. We will definitely be back.

Delighted. Awesome service, Better food and a sunset to die for. Came highly recommended from a friend which earnt them a bottle of wine in return

Urban spoon. Urban Spoon could do with a good moderator, On Jan 5th 2013 I was at Hortas this is the 4th time I have dined there each time have had very good food and fantastic service from the friendly staff, unlike "wine food lover "who claims to have been there on the same night and the very same night at Brighton Jetty Cafe giving exactly the same review to that place. Stop your lying WFL and get a life.
Gabbi Dalsasso
Go - it deserves to be successful!!Fabulous tapas (stuffed mushrooms, quail in mustard sauce & cod cakes), yummy chips- super location on the beach (views wonderful) although sea breeze can be a liitle much), service fantastic
Caterina
I dined there yesterday for dinner. The steak was bland, the garlic bread had no flavor, the rabbit stew was over powered with wine. The panacotta was $14 for a tiny portion, I dont know why since its only made with milk, cream and gelatin. The prices were absurd for the meal you received. The service was good, well not by the owner but by the rest of the staff. I wouldn't go there again
Jack
Service was shocking. We had to ask five times for a menu - before it was slapped down on a dirty table.

Very expensive - almost $30 for fish and chips.

Tables around us were filthy. Had to pull our own chairs after looking for our own table.

Walked out without ordering. What a complete sham.
Sherryn Patricia Shanahan
Liked it when it first opened. However last two times I have been very disappointed service was cold for the price of the food I would expect silver service. Ocean trout was so salty couldn't eat it and steak bland and slightly tough. Great setting but won't pay the price again
Speedymaary6
No care factor. I ordered the belly pork as a main meal the pork rind hadn't even been cooked. I advised the matre de and he said the grill wasn't working, no apology just an excuse. The time before that when we went they sat us right in front of the lit fire we advised them that even the glasses were HOT from the fire and asked if we could move as the restaurant had plenty of spare seats and we were advised NO, they just didn't care. I advised the girl when we paid that we would have stayed for desert and an extra bottle of wine and she said oh well!!
Kris Watts
I went there last Saturday with a group of 16 girlfriends. We took a few bottles of champas and wine. On arrival of my guests, the waiters served glasses of champas, a great start. The waitors were very accommodating throughout lunch. The meals were a hilight, everyone enjoyed theirs. A great afternoon, hortas will get a lot of repeat besides from our group, thank you:)
Mark
Overpriced has to wait one and half hours for food to come out nice setting not worth the money far better near by

Booked a month in advance for Father's Day. Entree was nice, took a while to come. We had to chase up our main meal after waiting for a very long time. Unforrunately it wasn' t worth the wait. Scallops were dry, salt pepper squid was the worst i have ever seen and only ate it cos we were starving. By the time we were finally offered dessert, the ones the kids had been waiting for were all gone. Would not eat there again. Could hVe got a better meal at Barnacle Bill's fir a fraction of the cost. Very disappointed!

Lunch at Hortas. On a very pleasant late autumn day we hosted a visiting overseas delegation of senior government ministers and officials to lunch at Hortas. We shared a full range of entrees and tapas, including Kangaroo and Quondong with a red wine glaze, and a specialty of a traditional Portuguese seafood and rice made with crayfish stock. These went down a treat. Main courses and desserts were ordered individually, mostly steak and the Atlantic salmon for mains and the Portuguese pudim and the Steamed fig, Muscat and almond pudding for desserts. Hareā€™s Chase and Jeanneret Shiraz satisfied the need for quality south Australian wines.
The delegation was delighted with the meal and the ambiance. They regarded it as a highlight of their trip to South Australia and Adelaide.
Hortas combined casual seaside eating in a formal dining setting with a fine dining menu. Service was efficient and friendly. And the sea view is stunning.

Divine Lunch. Went to Hortas for lunch with friends from interstate - great food and wine - excellent service - will return

You can't get by on good looks alone!!! Lovely setting and views obviously and the shottesbrook shiraz was divine but thats about it for the highlights ! Wait staff were hot and cold and very unattentive drinks took forever to arrive despite a few waiters milling doing nothing! Very noisy due to lack of soft furnishings. Meals were average and overpriced. Salt and pepper squid was inedible tough overcooked yet floury. Overcharged for our meal and even though we pointed out the mistake no refund offered. Very disappointed !
Bon
Accommodating, yummy but expensive.. As a Vegan there was nothing on the menu however the chef was prepared to create a dish for me...stirfry vegies with soba noodles...it was delish. The meat eaters with me enjoyed their entrees (but they were small). They also enjoyed their mains. It was an expensive night but that may have been due to the number of drinks consumed.
Lisa
Hmmm. Good food, good wine, good view, over priced and small desserts though :S might be persuaded to go back one day when I have plenty of money...

Best in Adelaide. My husband and I had dinner at Hortas on 16th March for his birthday. What a beautiful setting, just what we need South of Adelaide. Having come from Western Australia, and being a vegetarian, I have found dining very hard in Adelaide for Vegetarians. But I must say even though the menu is small, at Hortas, there was a good selection for vegetarians. I could not talk highly enough about the staff, fantastic service and very friendly. I must say my only complaint was no chocolates with coffee. But I take my hat off to this Restaurant, as I had dined at the casual part of the Restaurant yesterday, and even the snacks were lovely, and great staff. There was even chocolates with the coffee.

Enjoyable time. I live in Sidney, and I went to Hortas few days ago for dinner with my husband, and we had an enjoyable evening.
As soon as we get there, we confirmed the table by the window that we booked a few days before. We start our night with a beautiful bottle French champagne while we're enjoying the sunset. After that we had 2 beautiful Portuguese tapas, meatballs wrapped with bacon and broad beans with pork belly and chorizo. After that and with a beautiful Portuguese red wine, we had a nice snapper and a beautiful piri-piri chicken skewer. The waitresses were always available to give us a remarking service as well as Mr. Hortas with is sparkling way to serve his customers. In the end was one of the greatest nights I had in South Australia.

Beautiful time. I went to Hortas Restaurant with a lot of expectation, and I wasn't disappointed.
Went there a few weeks ago for dinner with the rest of my family, and we all had a beautiful time.
They were really busy, but as soon as I walk in the door, a beautiful waitress approach me, asking me if we had a reservation, we didn't so we wait only a few minutes for a beautiful table in the balcony, while we were enjoying a cocktail and some champagne. As soon as we sit down the service was brilliant. Water was served, while we were choosing a few and tasty Portuguese tapas. After the tapas we had a beautiful rabbit stew and beautiful steak. After all this we had space for some tasty cheese and a few desserts.
I wold like to complement all the staff from hortas, from the waiters to the Chefs.
Niki Mei
I agree with liam's review. the service there was cold and unfriendly, probably because i didn't dress in formal. food was great, but the service is poor, staff hardly fill water in my glass during the twi hour lunch .
Liam
Standard at best.. Went in this afternoon for a light second-lunch. Walked in with shorts and a t-shirt on, the front house staff looked me up and down and all but turned his nose down at me. For a location where I foresee people who go for jetty walks and decide to dine (whom may not be dressed to the decor) this left me with already a sour taste in my mouth.

Service was unfriendly and cold. I ordered the quail and the broad bean, pork belly & chorizo tapas dishes. We also had the trio of dips.

The quail was rather dry and the broth tasteless.

The pork belly was beautiful and fell apart in the mouth, the flavour quite powerful but delicious. However the small dish had only 2 slices of chorizo in it.

The trio of dips which was on the specials board left a lot to be desired. The pesto lacked punch probably from the lack of cheese in the dip, all one could taste was basil. The hummus tasted like it had been made entirely of lentil and oil, lacking in garlic. The 'red' dip which I could not deduce whether it was carrot, tomato, capsicum or a mix of all three was terrible. I did not even warrant it worthy of enquiring as to what it was.

For $45 in total I would much have rather gone elsewhere.

Hopefully I just caught them on a bad day as it's a prime location and the place looks lovely.

Perhaps I'll wear something a little nicer if I decide to go again and see if that helps improve my experience.
Phill
Long wait. Hortas was a friendly staffed restaurant with great Hugo wines and ok food,BUT, to wait over two hours for a steak, we had a table of six, three steaks ,three barramundi, not to hard to serve within 1 hr , the table of 12 who came in 45 mins after us got served before us,but the boss was sitting on it??. No apologies just a free coffee that we had to wait 30 mins for. Very poor performance ,wont be going back

Ola Hortas. Location, location, location! sunset over the southern ocean complimented by high quality dishes, some with a Portugese style (as suggested by the name of the restaurant). This site has been languishing for years, and finally it is good to see it being used to full potential. Tapas choices were the sardines and the pickled octopus salad. The octopus was delicious. Mains were pork belly, kingfish special and steak - all very generous serves and delicious. Followed by cheese platter and coffees. Staff very friendly and side serves extremely generous.
Pete
Not enough seafood. First of all the the settng is stunning, staff are efficient attentive and friendly. I ordered a beer only to find that they didn't have either of my choices from the menu. The Hugo wine was a real bonus.
The Petiscos ie tapas were very good we had Quail and Meatballs, No bread included which for rich sauces were essential.
The mains, the Seafood Bouillabaisse was lacking in seafood quite sparce in fact, they had added half a crab which filled the plate but added one teaspoon of crab meat. The sauce was lacking in taste and the rissotto was over buttery to the point of greasyness.
Our choice of desert was not available. The expressos were good. Themains dish spoilt the evening despite a stunning sunset over the sea, Perhaps a wider range of tasty Portugese dishes would bring us back. ps the take away fish from their kiosk was the best I have ever had.

Beautiful surrounds and interesting menu. Recently went to Hortas to share a pre-Christmas meal with friends. We shared some tapas to start and then mains from the a la carte menu - the rabbit in particular was delicious. The service was friendly and attentive and we were all very impressed by the renovations to the building. Looking forward to going back on a warm summer evening.

Spoiled our day. Special occasion booked weeks in advance and requested a window table with sea views. I called two days prior to our lunch to confirm and was reasured of a window table. When we arrived (right on time) we were seated almost as far away from the window as you can get. I explained our booking and request to move to one of the vacant tables by the window to no avail. Mr Horta made little effort to accomodate or make ammends for their failing. Food was ok but the experience left a bad taste.

Great view but bad food. After looking forward to such a good location lunch on Saturday was definitely not the right day. The menu before hand read great then to find out the Portuguese Rabbit Stew was not available was annoying...so ordered the Seafood Bouillabaisse. This had changed dramatically from what was written on the menu ... I was wondering why the was nut cracker place as cutlery and to find half a crab on the dish instead of salt & pepper white bait was dissappointing. The Bouillabaisse had squid ink risotto but apparently nobody cooks a risotto fresh at restaurants when asked I queried why it tasted so gluggy. The mussel was shell only on my friends and my prawn was missing a tail, and cockles were empty.
After mentioning to the nice waitress had management then approach quite rudely to find out why we didn't like it. They then offered free dessert & coffee. But the only dessert ordered was still added to the bill.
If you go have the cheap fish and chips and enjoy the view.

Not memorable. A fantastic location with great views and fair service. Main menu is quite small but is supplemented by a 'light lunch menu' and you can also order tapas. I had the crumbed fish fillet served with chunky chips, salad and mayonnaise. The chips were good but the rest of the meal was just ok and wasn't good value for the price. Fairly good wine list and the dessert menu sounded good although I didn't indulge.
