Review Portarlington Bakehouse - Portarlington

2 stars for nice backyard with small playground for kids. Personally I cannot enjoy to eat too sweet, sugar taste bread. And couldn't taste other than sugar from almond croissant and hotcross bun. Almond croissant could've had more flavour but not. This place thou has been loved locally, quite historical bakery worth to visit to see old time classic design inside and sit outside backyard. Was gonna buy savory bread, but didn't end up.

There are too many choices! Sweet, savoury and drinks selections galore. Hot or cold. Sitting inside or outside? They even had some fresh loaves of bread and eggs on a separate counter if you want a quick purchase. (Milk is in the fridge). After much thought, we tried the Sheppard's Pie and a toasted BLT. Tomorrow we go back and try some more. For something sweet, we consumed the 'Beesting'. Tomorrow we go back and try some more. Had a nice cuppa coffee and sat outside. Tomorrow we sit...hmmm

Service at this place was immaculate, friendly and the servers were very chill. The garden was beautiful too, loved eating outside. However the desserts weren’t really up to standard, we had the vanilla slice and the filling was delicious the custard was so soft and fluffy paired with the cream however the pastry was so thick and the bottom pastry we had was a bit salty as if the butter wasn’t completely mixed into it. The almond croissant was more like a custard croissant , barely any croissant in it actually.

We had afternoon tea for our weekend trip. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. I like the old building and outdoor area is really nice. I was surprised the Vanilla slices size😂 I had Almond croissant, it was also huge. It was nice but I think it’s not Almond croissant. I think it’s better to call it ‘Almond slice’

I gave 5 stars because of the staffs! They are so lovely, bubbly and helpful. Definitely brighten up my morning. Love their egg tarts and jam donuts

Thank god I don't live in Portarlington - otherwise I would be here everyday! Most places would not have quality warm food available at 2:45pm on a Friday afternoon, yet here I was able to choose from a good variety of options. Coffee is fantastic and the pie/sausage rolls I had tasted fresh and were warm. The staff was very friendly. Safe bet for a place to eat if you are over this way.

We ordered food for our daughters post wedding brunch on good friday, and it was amazing. Everything was freshly made and beautiful. It was a big order and despite them being so busy all of the food was ready on time and the hot food was piping hot. The bacon and egg rolls were delicious and very welcome after a big night by guests ! Cannot thank them enough

Wood fired goodness. The bread looks and tastes so authentic it will drive you mad. I love a good pie and found the Bakehouse pies to be truly exceptional - so full of flavour. But my friends, the standout for me was the Cornish Pastie. If you're anything like me, you're getting sick of ordering pasties because you're constantly getting disappointed - most are insipid, flavourless imitations of pasties with insides that resemble the gruel they served in orphanages in the days of Oliver Twist. Not these pastry covered delights. The insides have a wonderful mix of meat, veggies and herbs that taste how you remember a great pastie to taste. I luckily saw somebody eating one and recognised brilliance when I saw it - I'm so glad that I was so fortunate. Fantastic.
