Review Tandoori Mahal Indian Restaurant - Portarlington

I am going to try and give positive feed back!! I moved along the Bellarine Peninsula not long ago. My partner and i decided to have Indian food on Friday night after work, so we visited this Restaurant. We ordered butter chicken and Chicken Korma. This place firstly needs a very good clean and happier more attentive staff. Ive eaten in alot of Indian restaurants in the past but never anything like this. I couldn't work out what dish was what. Very watery sauces and way too much sugar was used. Staff walking around with buckets of food from the back of the shop into the kitchen with sauce dripping out of the sides. Terrible!!! Maybe use a qualified chef that knows how to cook and prepare Indian Food.

This restaurant has always had great food and very good customer service. The butter chicken is also one of the best dishes. Overall, I have had an excellent experience.

Not a bad place. I wanted to spend time somewhere warm and nice. So there was warm. I ordered rice with veggies and garlic bread. No hot drinks were serving even they were on the menu. The rice was a bit dry. For order I waited more then hour. Two families who ordered 15 minutes after me got their orders 15 minutes before. What made me feel unvaluable customer. Dissapointed.

I have enjoyed coming here many times. But a few weeks ago we were shocked by the poor quality. Waited an hour for our food and it really wasn't that busy. Utterly disappointed to say the least. I'm not one for negative reviews but I'm rather angry at what we experienced. And I want to give people the heads up. I ordered the Navratna korma - 'a variety of vegetables in almond and yoghurt gravy' for $17. What I got was a handfull of mixed frozen vegetables in gravy sauce.. there wasnt a variety of seasonal vegetables. no broccoli, no potaoes, no cauliflower, no carrots... No substance... My husband orderd the beef Madras. To only end up with 4 small pieces of diced beef. Again this dish was $17. We orderd half tandoori chicken the size of the meat looked like it was from a quail. It was dry and over cooked and it tasted as if it was reheated a few times. The saffron rice was $7.50 for maybe a 1/4 cup of rice. We orderd two and it was barely enough. The plain Naan bread wasn't bad..but the cheesy Naan didn't have cheese... The meals were small and over priced. Prices are $2-$4 more per dish dinning in then, take away. Im a big believer in supporting businesses and I don't mind spending money on good food, but I'm sorry to say this was a complete waste of money.

My family are 'regulars' at this restaurant - the service is always excellent, and the food, delicious! You can request a 'spiciness' rating of 0-10 with every dish (for those who don't like it too hot!!) Definitely recommended.

Terrible food..and bad service!!! Came for dinner here..after looking at ratings..but had the worst experience.. Ordered Kadhai paneer..it was like pasta sauce and paneer cubes..on top they charged $20 for the dish and they didn’t let us know while they took the order.. Daal makhni felt it was not fresh!! We paid the bill!! We asked him politely that we thibk u charged extra..after paying for the order.. And he harrassed us that he will call police and all

The food was nice but small. The service wasn’t good at all. If they had good service it would be an excellent restaurant. We arrived here at 7:45 and we didn’t have our mains until after 9:30pm. Overall it was very average.

Haven't been for a while but dropped in and we were not disappointed. The meals we selected had the best flavours in Indian cuisine we have experienced over many years of trying different restaurants. Well worth a try.

After being rejected by 3 restaurants due to early closing, this restaurant managed to let us in and cook us food which has been the best tasting indian food my family and i have ever eaten. Thank you for an awesome service

Service tonight was disappointing. Have chase drinks. Had to chase mains. Had to chase sides. Not up their usual standards. Very disappointing.
