Review Clock By The Bay - Portland

Matthew Aitken
Not being locals to Portland once again I was relying on Google to recommend somewhere nice to visit. The local guides and reviews did not let us down, called the restaurant and booked in at short notice. Upon entry we were seated quickly and presented with menus. The dining room was bustling as we'd arrived later that standard dining time, once we'd ordered we were offered complimentary bread. The main meals were exquisite as the photos will tell a story, along with well balanced desserts to finish off the two course meal and end the experience dedicantly.

Beautiful meal and service with a sweet view of the bay. The restaurant was comfortable and the wait staff attentive. Went for the 3 course special, it did not disappoint. Pina coladas were nice and refreshing. Would be great to enjoy the outdoor seating area, something for next time.

This building was the post office built 1882. Wonderfully converted into a restaurant and they serve great set course menus. Their home made focaccia was fantastic. Attentive and Prompt service. Entrée was good, mains were ok, desserts were amazing. All in all the evening was enjoyable, had a good time. Bookings are recommended

Great food obviously prepared by Chef. Really enjoyable dinner that surprised, well done Chef! Maitre d was rude, told us we booked for 2 however we booked for 6 persons. Music so loud we could not hear table conversation nor could we hear waiters, nor could they hear us for orders. When asked to turn the music done, maitre d refused without reason. What turned out to be a lovely evening actually turned out to be a shouting match. Maitre d too busy putting bums on seats does not look after customers. At the end of the evening, she does not visit tables to enquire about the dinning experience. Lovely food however, I do not recommend this place and I suspect chef will move on.

A truly fabulous dining experience, from the lady at front of house, the waitress and the kitchen staff, all exceptional. A beautiful meal (I had the fettuccine, my partner had the duck). The front of house lady was so much fun, a laugh, a joke, she knew her wines, she was just sensational. We had a beautiful table overlooking the bay. Fantastic venue, fantastic service and simply superb food Thank you so much. well worth the drive from Hamilton A & T

The food was delicious, it's a bit above a backpackers budget but it was our last night and completely worth it. However, the place lacked atmosphere almost completely. Please get a designer in, food as good as that should be eaten in a wonderful environment... at least buy a plant?

Beautiful food and exceptional service. Couldn't fault Renee (the server) or any of the other staff. The arancini balls with wagyu beef, chilli, parmesan and mozzarella were amazing!

Beautiful ambience with lovely food. Portion sizes are great. Just a note though if you are not a local and you ask for water, they will serve you bottled water and you will be charged (~ $7/bottle) unless you ask for tap water. Because Portland water has a strong taste so they automatically give tourists bottled water.

We had the most amazing dinner here tonight. Everything we ordered was so good. We had the Arancini, the croquettes, the halloumi, the scallops and the mushroom ragout. We enjoyed all of the meals so much, great quality food and with really interesting flavours. Cocktails were great too. The ambience and service were excellent.

Beautiful venue with a fantastic view over the bay. The food was tasty and well presented. Loved the balance of flavours especially how the apple and mint slaw complimented the prawns. Highly recommend.
