Review Isabellas Cafe - Portland

Tushar Kelkar
Historic café building, originally built in 1882 as a home for the workers building the lighthouse which was completed in 1884. It offers simple pantry style menu for the weary tourist and traveller. Good place for a quick bite and refreshing beverages. They have a good ice cream selection too, for those craving sugar after a long walk. Tap water may not be for everyone, but they do sell bottled water.

Big thanks for the wonderful food we had after completing a section of the GSWW. Very tasty soup and we ordered take away chicken tikka for dinner as we were staying at the lighthouse cottages. It was all packaged up beautifully and we heated it up later. Just perfect with the salad provided

This cafe at Nelson Lighthouse used to serve fantastic food and had a great atmosphere so we greatly looked forward to a lunch here while passing through on the Great South West Walk. At first we almost thought the cafe was closed as there were no customers. Within the foyer we noted the menu had changed significantly to now only serve very basic meals, with the proprietor inside heard arguing with their young child (this went on throughout the whole lunch until the child was pacified with an icecream). Cutlery was almost thrown on the table with the overpriced chips and toasted sandwich. The homemade sausage rolls were burnt on both ends, mushy and appeared microwaved from frozen. My partner ordered a muffin to take away, and although we had not asked that it be heated, this was placed in an icecream cup and again microwaved. The muffin tasted stale and as if made from a packet mix. Overall very disappointed by both the food and service.

Little hidden gem. Located in a historic stone building next to the lighthouse. Super friendly staff. Delicious selection of cakes and cookies.

At the end of the scenic drive from Portland this is a haven. Scones with cream and jam or carrot cake and delicious coffee.

Food was very average. Then couple hours later 2 of our party of 4 become sick. Will not be going back. Very nice place to visit for the light house
