Review Tall Timber - Prahran

Chris Price (Pricey)
Great little spot for a late breakfast on a rainy day. I had the folded eggs and they we as advertised with a generous chunk of goat cheese + 2 pieces of toast - hit the spot 👌🏻lots of other good options on the menu too.

Located in Prahran, Tall Timber was a cafe serving coffee and brunch meals. I’d been here a few times and every time my brunch experience was very positive; coffee was consistently great, and so was the food. On my last visit, we ordered their Supergreen salad with quinoa, almond and currants, as well as the porridge with roasted nuts, shaved coconuts and mixed berries. The supergreen salad was flavourful and crunchy; the porridge was hearty with fruity notes. Service was prompt and friendly.

To be honest, nothing special on it... food was just ok (the bread was terrible hard to eat), the staff was kind of not in a good mood, overpriced for the service and the quality of the food. Anyways, not my place to be back!
Lachlan Scott
Great spot, delicious food and coffee. We dined outside and it was a little chilly but the staff had the heaters on which made for a more comfortable brunch experience. Highly recommend

I really enjoy eating here for breakfast. The staff are very friendly, even after dealing with large groups who try and rock up on a Saturday without a booking. The range of meals is great and I always enjoyed their coffee. Pricing isn’t unreasonable either.
Abdurahman Katamish
The place is amazing and the music choices were just the best, very friendly staff and the food was good.

Beautiful cafe in Prahran. We can enjoy good coffee and food with relaxed. Must visit in Prahran!

Nice place - decor, food, coffee, staff. Definitely worth going for a meal with friends or business meeting.

Super nice environment! Greatest place for friends tI gather and chill! Love the vibe in the back yard.
Foods are great for reasonable price. Will definitely be back again!

A pretty frothy coffee that took a while to be made, but at least it tasted okay. I wanted a large but it’s $1.50 extra, which seems excessive. The space is nice and food looks good, so perhaps coffee is where this spot falls flat.

This will always be a historical day for Kunnu as it was the last day of his work and a new beginning

Tall Timber was, thankfully, the right one to bring-in new journey with beautiful coffee, warm spiced beef salad and Morocco spiced chicken .

Everything on plate was fresh and beautifully cooked. Loved every bit of it.

Service was pretty slow, to an extent that our salad.was served cold..Of course, the attendant was sweet enough to apologise and we were fine...Thus no deduction of ratings.

Vegans and vegetarians have decent choice bit the menu is quite small.

We also did a takeaway of Orange and Coconut Muffin and Sandwich Cookies stuffed with honey cream.

The honey cream was quite sweet but otherwise crumbly and chewy. The muffin was amazing tough.

Definitely returning.

My partner and I went to Tall Timber today (29/02/2020) for lunch. Our food order seemed to take longer than normal to come out.
When our food order did come out, the waitress seemed absent-minded and nearly spilt the shakshouka on my dress, and also didn't offer me a spoon with my shakshouka.
In fairness, they may have been understaffed, but I was disappointed in their service and value for money. Also, who eats shakshouka with a knife and fork?

I was looking forward to this experience, and unfortunately, it was underwhelming.

Tall Timber is a cafÊ located in Prahan. There are a variety of outdoor seating and the menu has enough food for gluten-free / vegetarians. Dogs are also allowed.

The boast of this cafe, Shunsuka, is a vegetarian food offering gluten-free options.
Shunsuka is a delicious cafÊ with a variety of flavors.

Opening Hours
Weekdays 7am - 4pm
Weekends 7.30 am- 4pm

Website
https://www.talltimbercafe.com.au/

Instagram
https://www.instagram.com/tall_timber/

Location
60 Commercial Rd, Prahran VIC 3181

----

# instagram : __se_a

# blog : https://blog.naver.com/thefruitfruit

# e-mail : befruitfruit@gmail.com

My first experience here was very subpar, I was expecting this place to live up to its good reviews. The coffee is real nice, but the food does not seem to live up to the same quality. I gave this place a second chance, and again, real disappointing.

Walked and sat down for 10 minutes and also wasn’t spoken too, so I left. Clearly a cafe that’s built on Instagram likes and lazy staff. Won’t be back

The most beautifully presented egg dish I’ve ever seen, it’s almost hypnotizing 😍

FOOD: I ordered the Timber Folded Eggs because it’s super famous and it was good but the egg itself was slightly flavourless? I’m not sure if it wasn’t seasoned alot because it was meant to go with the goats cheese but the eggs with the goats cheese was absolutely magnificent! The bread was also toasted really well and had some hints of nuts so it was a super pleasant surprise and the goats cheese was so fresh and delicious!

SERVICE: Pleasant and efficient!

Overall, Tall Timber is a great cafe to have some classic brunch dishes done well. Simplicity sometimes is truly the key

A cafe worth a visit in Prahran area. Great food for sure!!!
Erin (erin_bosanquet_nutritionist)
The coffee and food is all consistently good here. They do eggy breakfast really well and have good quality plant milks on offer. I switch between soy, almond and oat milk latte's - all delicious.

The Smashed Avo is excellent - I love the feta and corn in the mixture as well as the beetroot hummus.

It's quite a busy spot, especially during peak breakfast/brunch times. Usually not too long of a wait though. They have the inside dining area as well as plenty of outdoor and courtyard seating.
I would love to see some more vegan options on the menu - the felafel plate they had for a while was incredible. And a hash brown option in the sides menu would be another great addition.

Food is great. Cozy place in Prahran. Close to where I work.
Coffee is average.
Staff is very friendly. Love the outdoor seatings

Love the atmosphere of this place, specially in a nice weather, the food were delicious, not a fan of the coffee though, and the service have some space to improve, the staff was a bit slow and not very friendly.

Came here today for lunch. Had the French toast and Fried chicken burger , matcha latte and strong latte . French toast are delicious with mascarpone cheese . Drinks are great . Barista and manager are friendly, waitress? probably not so much . We love the decor and the flower arrangements though.

Very disappointed that we went here for our weekly brunch outing. The coffee was Luke warm, the food was bland at best, very noisy environment and uncomfortable seating. The worst part was paying the bill- they charge a 10% weekend surcharge, then a 1.76% surcharge on all card transactions, so we paid a surcharge on our surcharge. All around a bad experience- I suggest avoiding this place if you can.

I’m extremely surprised by all the high reviews. The cafe is seemingly run by inexperienced teenagers. Venue was extremely cold with no heater on a winter morning and the big group of us were surprised at how freezing it was. We all had big jackets on but were still cold!

All of our coffee lattes were below lukewarm on arrival, and whilst food came out quickly, it was really overpriced for what the small amount we received.

Our finished plates stayed on our table for over an hour and were never cleaned up by the 5+ teenage staff standing around talking. I’d maybe understand if the venue was busy, but there were barely anyone else eating when we were there!

The eftpos fees AND a 10% weekend surcharge are passed on to the customers(!), so the expensive meals were even more costly to our whole group when paying. I haven’t been to a restaurant/cafe in years where the customers have to pay such ridiculous fees!

There are so many amazing cafes in the area and, unfortunately, this is definitely not one of them.

I have always loved this place and have been visiting for the past 4-5 years. Having said that the last few visits have been noticing a decline in service standards and quality and quantity of food. Visited this morning and had brunch and ordered 2 slices of toast extra and was charged 7$ for
That !!!!! Come on in what sane person would charge that - even a loaf of good sour dough doesn’t cost 7$ and the 2 small slices were cold and not toasted and wasn’t even gives a small packet of butter. Come on Tall Timber I thought you were better. I think this was my last visit.... good luck guys

Tall Timber is yet another cafe I was dragged to (rather willingly!) by locals who really know their food! Nice light, bright venue. Can make for a long wait, but it's worth it.

Wow.... The Timber Benedict with pulled pork was amazing! Great take on a classic. I would've loved a splash more sauce, if being critical, otherwise it was very satisfying.
Breakfast_Adventurers
Love this place! It’s been around for a while now which displays how awesome they are! I’ve been back repeatedly & can’t wait to dine here again soo!

Timber Benedict w. Slow cooked pork shoulder, poached eggs & apple cider hollandaise....

To get straight to the point, it's safe to say this is one of my all time favourites. I can't stress how well these flavours marry each other. There is defiantly a party happening in my mouth every time I take a bite! It'll be cruel not to try this dish 9.5/10 #pulledpork

The absolute classic scrambled eggs with a side of bacon. You can't go wrong and there isn't much you can fault. Tasty fluffy eggs and well cooked bacon 🐽🐥 8/10

I've been here quite a few times. Usually i come for coffee, sometimes for lunch-- both are great! Here're a few notes from my experiences(they've updated the menu so i only post what's on the menu now):
Spiced chicken breast(now called Moroccan spiced chicken): Very delicious! chicken skin is the best part! and the secret sauce!
:D
NZ smoked salmon: Note it is very small portion. Tastes OK to me
Eggs benedict: very good! you'll get two!
In the take-away display window: recommend breaky board(hope this is the right name)
This place is very busy around noon. 25min waiting for a coffee won't suprise me.

Hello. Imnikki
Walking into Tall Timber, you have the choice of turning left into a sun-filled indoor dining area, or turning right to the back courtyard that is not only heated and covered, but also dog-friendly. As my friend brought along a furry friend, we only had one way to go. Without missing a beat, a waitress who noticed us coming in then followed us with menus and water jug in hand, greeting us warmly once we decided on spot to sit at. A+ for service.

I wanted to eat clean but I was craving for chips, so I decided to order both the SautĂŠed Cauliflower and the chips. Both hit the spot, but the stand out was the chips. Each and every one of them were super hot and crispy, and I scoffed them all down in a flash. I really should have shared such a pleasure with my friend but in my defense, I did asked and she politely declined.

The SautĂŠed Cauliflower was the example of clean and healthy eating. The different textural elements on the dish kept my tastebuds entertained, and the pomegranate seeds were a nice touch, adding a burst of sweetness and tartness. The dish however relied too heavily on the pumpkin purĂŠe to give cohesion to all the different flavours, and once the pumpkin purĂŠe was gone, each individual flavour was left standing on its own.

My friend ordered the soup, which was a potato and cauliflower soup. Don't ask me why it was orange in colour, we asked ourselves that question too. We thought that we might have misheard and it was supposed to be sweet potatoes, but according to my friend, it didn't tasted like sweet potatoes, and judging by the very clean bowl at the end of the meal, it was a very delicious soup.

Our dirty chai and espresso were lovely, both gulped down way before our meal arrived.

With or without the Entertainment App, Tall Timber is still worth every penny.
Such a shame as we LOVE the food here, but were disappointed to learn that they have imposed a 10% weekend surcharge on Saturdays and Sundays and that's why we questioned why we could get a table so easily on a Sunday. Spoke to the owner and the manager, and was told it's their new policy to cover staff costs on weekends, but we're talking about a premium priced breakfast cafe where egg dishes are $22 and coffee is $5. Unfortunately we won't be coming back on weekends and have now found a new local.....
Duffman
Porridge was on point and service was great until you get hit with a 10% surcharge on weekends at the end of your experience (I could understand if it was a public holiday). Find another way to reduce your overheads, as this is just too excessive leaving you with a bad aftertaste.

Overall score: 17/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: brunch at a good location
*
Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 🆗ordered the French toast. Appreciate the generous servings and how this dessert brunch was not overly sweet. I wish the French toast and bacon was crispier though. I also thought the dish was quite simple. I recall a better dessert dish served here in 2015 - the banana & pistachio bread back then was much more impressive
*
✅the cauliflower and kale dish was simple, within expectations and came with delicious chorizo. I wished that they experimented more with the dish though.
*
Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the cafe had standard fittings with ample indoor and outdoor seats.
*
Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️- They have a 10% weekend surcharge, so even after an entertainment 25% discount, we still paid $25 / person. That wasn’t the cheapest brunch we’ve had, but you pay for the location I guess.
*
Presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Food looked great, the plating was impressive.
*
Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️- It was hard to get someone’s attention and the staff were not the most friendly - maybe because the brunch was busy!

Place looks cute and inviting but $6 for a regular takeaway matcha is crazy. The green tea was only partially mixed into the milk with lumps throughout.

A sister to friends of mine in Richmond which has always been a favourite of mine and it doesn’t disappoint. The coffee was excellent and pretty quick on a Rainy Saturday morning. Big groups might have to wait but 2 people didn’t take long. It’s great that they have two green options (but with chorizo!). Looks delightful like a work of art and the taste to match! Definitely worth coming back to try the other menu items; it’s always great to fine a place that’s creative with brunch options!
Brunch Queen 👑
Finished my food before I could take a photo!

Tall timber is a great spot on a nice sunny day when in need of a perfect brunch! I ordered the super green salad which came with a poached egg! Loved how healthy it looked and tasted so delicious leaving me very satisfied! My friend had the French toast which looked beautiful and so decadent! A very reliable breakfast spot!
Blergh!
The food was ok - nothing exceptional but then we only had poached eggs on toast. It was busy as expected on a Sat. The wait for coffee very very long - our food arrived before the coffee. I am editing this post as I had initially stated that we were charged an excessive eftpos fee - turns out they do charge an approximate 1.76% eftpos fee (which I don’t agree with passing into customers if they are paying by debit card, but that is another issue) and also a service fee of 10% on weekends. Apparently this is on their menu... will we be back? Probably not...

I recommend the chilli eggs! Lots of flavour and left feeling really satisfied. French toast was nice, inside was soft and delicate. Fruit accompaniments were fresh and in season.

Want a brunch experience? Go here.

The menu for me is perfect. There are A LOT of options. All of which include eggs. YUM.

On arrival it took a while for table service and my friend and I waited 15 minutes just for water and to order a drink. But that was the only down fall.

The food was tasty. GREAT portions and very well presented. I had the cauliflower dish and my friend got smashed pumpkin. Both meals were enjoyed and finished with no problem at all!

I really really enjoyed the food. There is also a lot of outdoor seating so on a summers day I would definitely recommend getting a spot outside!

9/10

With a gorgeous interior you will simply feel at home. I decided to order the french toast and a latte. Let me tell you that the french toast is simply beautiful. The presentation and taste is definitely worth visiting for. Would definitely recommend

I have a lot of mixed feelings for this place.
We ordered the Wagyu burger and the cauliflower. Both dishes were good, the patty was juicy for the burger and the cauliflower had lots of flavours. I recommend adding the chorizos to the dish also.
We also ordered an ice chai, which was bland, and tasted like fresh milk dusted with some chai powder. It was definitely not an ice chai and you could get something much better at Starbucks honestly. The glass was also so small and very expensive.
We also ordered a green juice that took forever to be made, when we asked to cancel it because we had already finished our meal, the staff quickly made it.
Overall the food was good, staff was friendly, but the drinks were terrible. We also got charged for c.s, I’m not sure if this meant customer service or some service fee but it was an extra $5. We weren’t really sure. Overall the restaurant was not bad, but not amazing!

Who doesn’t love a good breakfast? Seems everyone in Prahran does and one place they seek out is Tall Timber. This popular Prahran haunt serves up some great coffee and equally good food to a clearly parochial crowd and when the weather is with you Tall Timber's rear courtyard is an amazing place to find yourself for a beautiful weekend breakfast slash brunch – not the Dubai kind.

First day of 2019 spent having brunch with the fatty at Prahran. Finding a cafe outside of the CBD area was a challenge as most cafes were closed for the public holiday and those that are opened, well, do expect a little surcharge on the bill. Wagyu beef burger - served with double smoked bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar, gherkins and lettuce. Twas yummy and unpretentious. Probably a good idea for those trying to recover from a hangover.

Meal: Brunch

Ordered: French toast, timber folded eggs, juice and coffees

We visited Tall timber yesterday for Brunch and were treated to a delicious meal. The folded eggs with goats cheese was delicious and the French toast was not too sweet but enough to hit the spot. The coffee was well made too. Good food, fast service and a very friendly environment. A must if you are a brunch bandit!

Her's: While the food was quite tasty and felt healthy, our almond coffees were a real disappointment. They tasted like watered down non coffees. We told a wait staff who told his manager...who then came to ask how things were. We didnt know who she was though and thought she was talking about our meals (which were fine).

The almond milk was an extra $1 which seemed too high...given the result as well. Won't go back but certainly their meals are instaworthy.

HIS: Presentable, popular, but poor coffee.

When it comes to brunch, Tall Timber have so many good options. I always feel like I’m being somewhat healthy when I eat there because they use quality ingredients are have lots of mouth-watering veggie inspired dishes. The food is delish, the coffee is delish, it’s just a good time all around.
Hungry Little Dinosaur
Came here with high hopes, which were reinforced by amazing coffees. My scrambled eggs were flakes of salt with some egg, my spinach was pure salt and the mushrooms were buttered and salted which made my throat hurt for the rest of the day. Had to get my own cutlery as it was not served before or with the food. This was funny to Mr Dinosaur who launched into his “coming to america TRY THE SOUP!” routine. Funny, but would not return.

March 2019 Review: 1 star

Tall Timber seems to have recently merged with Friends of Mine and their menu has been updated. We absolutely did not enjoy our experience this time.
We ordered the chilli scrambled that was average (but overcooked) and the shashuska was abysmal. The latter tasted (and looked) literally like tomato soup with one or two strips of onions/capsicum and two eggs. It tasted horrible!
And they now also have a 10% surcharge on weekends and additional surcharge of debit/credit cards on an already pricey menu.
We won’t be back.

(I also didn’t want to get rid of my review from last time below, because they used to be good once)

—

Nov 2018 Review: 4 stars

This cafe is a place for great food and hangs! I adore the outdoor area, it’s so pretty and is great in warmer months. Their food is very pretty also! I am in looove with their smashed avo - not just any other avo on toast.
Timinmelbourne
2.5/5
I dropped in here for a coffee today. The service was friendly.

I ordered a strong skinny latte and my coffee was $4.70 plus an eftpos surcharge.

I saw the surcharge fee sign taped to the table so unless you were looking you would not have seen it!

Unfortunately my coffee was just pumped out quickly by the 2 baristas without any attention to detail and it tasted pretty ordinary to say the least.

It wasn’t a good start to the day!
Chai
Absolutely love their food, not as salty as some other places. We had Eggs Benedict and Shakshuka which were one of best cafe foods. Coffee also was great.
Staff were very friendly and attentive, I enjoyed cosy and cool atmosphere. No wonder this place has such high rates in Zomato. Definitely will be back.
Scout
Firstly- great food. Specializing in eggs & green stuff. Felt quite good about myself & all the vitamins I was consuming. Secondly- friendly staff once you got their help. However, I’ll never return because of the service. Loads of empty tables but we waited 20 minutes to be seated. Waited another 10 minutes to receive menus. Very difficult to get the staff’s attention. Took another 15 minutes to place our order- food arrived in good time so the kitchen was working well. But my coffee arrived 10 minutes after the food... we spent a lot of time waiting outside in the cold wind al fresco dining then discovered the cafe was half empty inside when we went in to pay. Then add on 10% surcharge to everything because it was a weekend!! It’s a cafe- it’s bread & butter is weekend dining. Very cheeky. Public holiday surcharge I can understand. A normal weekend? Get serious!

Rating: 2.5
Stopped by for brunch after hearing a lot of good things about Tall Timber, and was pretty disappointed with the experience.
Despite going on a Saturday at the peak brunch time of 11:30am, we luckily didn’t have to wait long to be seated. The main waiter that greeted us and organised our table was lovely and helpful... but the other waitress we dealt with for the rest of our visit not... quite as good.
As well as the cafe itself, they also have some outdoor seating and a lovely sheltered “courtyard” area consisting of a long wooden table and benches with outdoor heaters.
We started off with a flat white and hot chocolate, and both drinks were nice, though they took a while to come. For food we ordered off the lunch menu and opted for the pumpkin ravioli and Mediterranean chicken... and the food was what really brought the experience down for us. Dishes weren’t balanced, and wasn’t sure what to make of the flavours.
The ravioli’s pastry was thick and felt undercooked, and despite the fact that the dish is named “pumpkin ravioli” it felt like they were trying to hide the fact it was pumpkin. In no way did they try to bring out or complement the pumpkin flavour, but tried to smother it in a heavy curry-like/spice-y flavour and for some reason... they also added balsamic sauce too?
The chicken on the other hand was a bit dry, and instead of the light, refreshing, herb and spice-y flavour we’d expected from the name... it was plain and seemed more like a simple rub.
Guess we just ordered the wrong things that day? But then... why are these dishes on the menu if they’re not up to the standards of their other dishes?
Would only come back to maybe takeaway drinks...

Popped in for brunch with some friends, very busy on a Sunday morning. The wait time was about 10 mins which was fine and the staff were very attentive and friendly.

My coffee was perfect, my folded eggs were nice however a little on the boring side. I was expecting there to be more of a herb taste in the eggs, however it seemed there were only micro herbs which were flavourless. It certainly wasn't a bad dish just not an exiting one.

All in all a nice cafe with a good ambience and great staff, I would definitely come back and recommend.
Dora & Craig
I grabbed a takeaway coffee from this busy cafe the other day, unfortunately, I was very disappointed in the coffee. The coffee was overpriced and tasted bad and I waited almost 15 minutes for it! The cafe wasn’t that busy busy. I would never recommend this cafe to anyone.

I've been here a few times. The food is always beautiful and the coffee is delicious. The staff are friendly, and it's always a good vibe. Love the back courtyard.

Really like the industrial ambience with lots of natural elements here. As a salmon lover, I ordered the salmon gravlax and it didn’t disappoint! Highly recommend this cafe if you are in the area!

Located about 300m up from the Prahran Market is this cute café loved by the locals. Have been here a few times and the team at Tall Timber consistently deliver fresh, flavoursome and innovative food. Their menu also changes to make the most of what’s in season. It’s one of those places you feel good after eaten there.

Today we had the Breaky Board and the Folded Eggs. Both were delicious and well presented.

Great coffee and friendly service.

Note: surcharge on weekends

Best french toast! I love the french toast so much I want to learn how to make it this good at home. I’ve also enjoyed some of their lunch items like pulled pork tacos that were amazing as well. The staff is really friendly and the space is beautiful.
Maria Condello
A very busy brunch spot, often has a queue of customers waiting on weekends. With a full cafe, the staff weren't particularly attentive but we thought the food arrived in a decent time.

Very delicious, the smashed avocado is a huge serve, you could almost share between 2. The beetroot puree was sweet but went well and there was enough to spread on the toast too.
The breakfast board is a good choice to try a bit of everything. Great selection on the menu and even if you have to wait in line, we think it's worth it.
Linda
Smooth coffees, traditional breakfasts with a slight twist, generous servings and great tasting. Service is also friendly and responsive. Have been back a number of times. Worth the trip.
The Muesli Addict
Have been coming here really often recently. Absolutely love their bircher and coffee. The portion size for the bircher used to be smaller, but now they increased it so that's a good thing. Service is quick and friendly.

I would always see Tall Timber on my IG feed and it would always look aesthetically pleasing. Well, now that I've tried it, the dishes really do look hella bomb and you eat with your eyes first. Ordered 3 dishes between 2 people & we had to roll ourselves out - but it was so worth it!
Dish 1) Shakshuka - similar to baked eggs but 100x better! The tomato base was stunning and had a real depth of flavour to it which stood out.
Dish 2) pumpkin ravioli - hooley dooley this was amazing! The pumpkin filling was so delicate & flavourful at the same time
Dish 3) smoked salmon gravlax - sooo fresh, loved all of the components on it except for the cheese. A bit too much for my liking
Coffee was good but I would have liked it to come out hot, not room temp (I ordered it extra hot too). Overall, really good experience.

Had a mid week lunch at Tall Timber recently and really enjoyed it. We sat out at the large communal table with it’s central garden. Very pleasant, as was the food, the presentation and the coffee. Updated 30th October.. went for lunch again today and was really disappointed ☹️ the dishes didn’t look or taste as good as they have previously..

Cosy cafe that my friend brought me a while back. Great place for a delicious brunch and to catch up. Not too busy so good spot for a long chat.

This popular Prahran haunt serves up some great coffee and equally good food to a clearly parochial crowd and when the weather is with you Tall Timber's rear courtyard is an amazing place to find yourself for a beautiful weekend breakfast slash brunch – not the Dubai kind. The courtyard is an undercover, wood walled area with a central garden with a continuous bench table with surrounding stools that form a squared communal seating area that works quite well.

I've only been here for coffee so I can't speak to the food but I have to say I'm not really sold on this place. I've visited three times - twice inside, which seemed nice but a bit noisy if you want to catch up with someone. The other time there were no seats inside so I sat in the courtyard. It's sheltered but the sides are slatted wood and awful in cold, windy weather (even with heaters on). Coffee was fine the first time but a bit watery the other times. It's popular and trendy but I don't think I'll be trying it the food any time soon (other customers do seem to love it though, so it could just not be my kind of place).

Super cute cafe tucked away from the hustle bustle of Chapel St with a local vibe. I’ve been quite a few times and always enjoyed my brekky. Up there with Melbs best smashed arvo!

Excellent food and coffee. Service to get seated a bit sloppy but it’s Sunday and was a full house so understandable. Will become a regular. Meals were perfectly balanced.

This place is a little gem! I felt like eggs Benedict on Sunday morning and the reviews for this place seemed good so though I’d check it out. My brother and I both ordered the eggs 🍳 Benedict dish with a side of bacon 🥓 Oh em gee! This place knows how to cook bacon! We were both thrilled with our dish. The bacon was well cooked and crispy. The pork hock under the eggs was divine and the eggs were on point. Waitress was lovely with great attitude. Would definitely go back again!

1.Grilled miso salmon- its not your ordinary salmon.. i find it really flavourful and cooked perfectly. The skin was super crispy and the salad taste amazing!
2.Eggs benedict-just like an ordinary eggs benedict with hollandaise sauce. However, i find the hollandaise sauce in tall timber was super goood!
3.Pork pulled & egg benedict - was a liiit! I was not expecting the dish to taste amazing! However The portion was bigger in the past considering the price was increase too.
4.Smoked salmon benedict - the food was an okay for me and it taste like an average smoked salmon.
5.Brisket beef with brown rice - this is the old menu, but the beef was super delish!

#BHAsFoodDiary

Lovely bright place! Perfect place to start your day if you love a brightly natural sunlight lit place to enjoy a meal in!

Friendly service and relatively large place despite looking tiny, can easily cater for small groups of two or large groups of 10. Seats catering a comfy inside seating, courtyard or just along the side street.

Choice of menu of all day breakie or all day lunch, depending on what time you arrive and what you fancy. I love the drinks menu, catering from St Ali’s coffee, assorted tea including matcha, to freshly squeezed juices to mixed juices.

We chose to sit inside as it was a little chilly for me to sit outside despite the nice sunshine. The high ceiling and natural light just made me feel so relaxed that I enjoyed the meal very much.

Wasn’t too busy for a Saturday morning, which made it even better place to start the day chilling.

For those who fancy a cocktail to start the day, Bloody Mary and other assorted cocktails special are on the menu too!

Recommended breakfast / coffee / brunch place on my list!

*note holiday surcharge applies!*
Foodaholic
Came here for brunch on Good Friday. Extremely busy as one would expect given the public holiday but we were seated quite quickly and coffee orders taken straightaway which was good. Our food order was also efficiently taken by the wait staff so we weren’t sitting around for too long wondering when we can place our order. Unfortunately our food came before our coffee which was surprising since we ordered that first. Nevertheless the coffee was smooth and just right. Food was really good. The poached eggs were spot on and very well done, hollandaise sauce was rich and creamy and generous in their serving as other places usually skimp on their hollandaise sauce which leaves you in satisfied. The pulled ham was also generous and well seasoned. It was also good that they didn’t use bread that was too big in size as it would have been too much to eat. Hubbys breakfast board was also good in serving size and tasted great. The only slightly down side was that the coffee prices were slightly steep. And given that we always order the same coffee we know what we usually pay for them and can safely say that these were slightly more expensive. But overall a lovely experience and we would definitely consider coming back again

Went here today to celebrate a friend's birthday for lunch. The banana bread was divine. Must try! My friend has the French toast and he said it's just the right kind of sweetness. They're pet friendly too!

Ambiance: 3.5 - nice but the place gets REAL loud.
Coffee: 3 - not bad, but nothing special.
Speed of service: 2 - very slow (15min wait for a coffee) but it was a busy morning.
Menu Selection: 3.5 - some interesting items but mainly just the usual suspects.
Food/taste: 3 - everything was good, except for the mint in the smashed avo (who came up with that one?)

Not a bad place overall. Would I come back? Hmm probably not. Well, not in a rush in any case.
Over the weekend I visited Tall Timber in Prahran. It’s a cute cafe located on Commercial Road, parking is a little tricky but with a bit of persistence you can definitely make it work.

Tall timber has a couple of seating options on offer, you can sit in the front of house, outdoor or in the back terrace area. The staff are incredibly accommodating and friendly, I was served by a lovely guy named Alex who was happy to give my friend and I some guidance when it came to ordering off the menu. I ordered a skinny latte and on the recommendation of Alex we ordered the Sautéed Cauliflower ($19.90) and the Fried Chicken PO Boys ($17.90)

Both of our dishes arrived promptly and were delicious. The sautéed cauliflower was packed with flavour and the PO boys burgers were so filling that finishing the two of them seemed like an impossible feat. We finished our meals in a total of 0.352729 seconds cause it was that good - in fact I think I spent a longer amount of time looking looking for parking than I spent inside Tall Timber all together.

We ordered a Vanilla butterbing to go (YUM!) and Alex even shook our hand which has never happened at the end of a brunch date, but i can’t deny it, it just felt right. Overall, it was a great day at Tall Timber and I’d definitely go back for either the food or just to see my bestie Alex. I would 100% recommend you do the same!
This place takes bookings
Went here at a lunchtime on a Thursday
Was fairly empty

Ordered the shakshuka. Sizeable portion very filling but I can make it better hence was not impressed

There's a massive surcharge if you pay by card. Wish I had known

Friends had the cauliflower quinoa salad the smashed abo and the salmon salad and loved their meals

Lots of options
Split billing allowed
Friendly staff

Nice cafe, nice set up. The French toast is sensational. The chai latte is not good enough for me. Toast like milk more than everything else.
Very expensive! Treat yourself!

Extremely inconsistent coffee. I was going here to get my morning coffee for a few weeks and they had a different barista on every morning. One morning the coffee would be good and the next day it would be terrible. I had a particularly bad coffee last week, liquid level about 2cms below the lip of the cup and the milk had been burned and the coffee so terrible it made me sick and I could drink it. I can never drink coffee from here again, highly recommend avoiding this place if you want a decent morning coffee.

I am a little baffled at some of the ratings over 4. At best, Id say a 3.5 and this is a result of food (2.5) and 1 for the actual venue. I ordered the pesto pasta and looking at it before I ate it, the ingredients gave me a false sense of what was coming. Bland is the only word that I can use to...

Will be back for:
+ Eggs Benedict
+ Breakfast board
+ French toast
+ Mango Smoothie

Came here for lunch today, and couldn’t be happier. The wait staff was very friendly and engaging, and knew their menu well. We decided on the eggs benedict (creamy and had a great balance of flavours), the breakfast board (I particularly liked the birch dukkah with fruits), the French toast (a generous serving of fresh toast, fresh berries and candied bacon which I added). We also had a mango smoothie which was refreshing and thick. The portion sizes were generous, the food tasty and the food came to us quickly. We’ll definitely be back!

This brunch place in Prahran boast a nice rustic decor. It also have back courtyard and also outdoor seatings. The food is pretty average just like other brunch places. Would recommend for quick bite and coffee.
Service is extremely good and friendly staff, didn’t have to wait long on food and it was really good. The pretty in pink juice is very refreshing as well

Tall timber would have been an easy 5 star for me if their coffee was better.

Food- The menu is extensive and caters to almost everybody! I got the green salad and the shakshuka and was very impressed with both items. The flavours were amazing and the presentation was great too!
Coffee- too weak. A good brunch spot with bad coffee is highly highly disappointing.
Service- really nice staff. Order was noted fairly quickly and food was served fairly quickly as well. The staff came and checked on us a couple of times and were really lovely throughout.
Ambiance. We have sat outside before but decided to sit inside this time. I love how light and minimalistic the decor is. The outside garden-y area is also very beautiful and pleasant.

I am definitely going to make a few more visits here :)
Christopher & Marian
Christopher & Marian had breakfast at Tall Timber today.
Busy and friendly cafe that was staffed by happy friendly people who actually wanted to be at work serving good food & coffee.
The TIMBER FOLDED EGGS
W/ fresh herbs & goats cheese on 5 grain toast. Mushrooms were yum ... possibly the egg could have been cooked a little less and the five grained slice of bread was a little thin making the cutting process - more like tearing - maybe if the bread was toasted & a little thicker it would cut better.
We would visit Tall Timber again.
Melbourne Food Journey
The baked eggs were decent and substantial, good tomato flavours and the Turkish bread was a nice touch. The Asian beef salad was okay as well. The interior was very nice, and sitting outside is pleasant on a sunny day.

Saturday 23rd December 2017 at 2pm.
A light and bright cafe in appearance.
Unfriendly staff.
Following arrival was provided with the menu and placed my coffee order.
Next (after a long wait) placed my order for food.
20 minutes or so later my food arrived.
No coffee. When I asked - “is my coffee coming?” the response was “what?” I repeated - “is my coffee coming?” The response was “what do you want?” - “the flat white I ordered when I arrived!”
For food I had the SHAKSHUKA - a tasty meal but given the bitter taste of poor service.
BIRCHER QUEEN 👑
The bircher here is delicious but it's quite a small serving when compared to competitors nearby such as Drugstore, Darling and Fourth Chapter. The stewed fruit on top was the highlight. I added granola on top for extra crunch ($2). Overall the dish was $19.

Beautiful outdoor setting and lovely interior deco. Excellent service and delicious food to match. Will definitely be returning for another meal soon!

Absolutely love the food at tall timber as I think they do some of the best food flavour wise however I do think the staff need to have customer service training! We waited 50 minutes for our food to come out and it really wasn’t that busy at the time as it was 1pm on a Sunday afternoon. During this time our coffee glasses had been set on our table for half an hour and no one had bothered to take it or ask us if we wanted more drinks. If the kitchen is running behind, just let your guests know. Acknowledgement really goes a long way. Despite the food being really nice I’m not sure if we will rush back. However taste wise it will always be one of the best for me.

Came here for brunch on a weekday. Definitely mid range as far as brunch prices go, the eggs Benedict was definitely done very well and the sauce and texture was very creamy and delicious. The ham complimented the eggs so nicely, in both taste and melted in the mouth. The beef salad was pretty nice but tasted too homologous. Drinks were served in mason jars which is a pet hatred of mine.

Tried Tall Timber 3 times, the coffee was awesome and breakfast was also great - total egg porn lol!
I had the smashed avo with a cappuccino!
Would go again :)

Great food and coffee, lining up is annoying, and also don't come if you like your eggs separated. Apparently the chefs can't separate the yolks from the whites. Great atmosphere. Not great for a "healthy" cafe
Sassyfoodqueen
I love tall timber they have all your classic brunch meals and all the produce they use is very good quality! I got the Sautéed Asparagus & Shakshuka with a side of smashed avo & smoked salmon. It was so delicious and I liked how there was no sauce on top of it because I find that a lot of places these days with this sort of meal will put a strange sauce or hummus with it so I was delighted that it wasn’t ruined by that! The service is really great every time I go, the only thing is that the sides are very $$$ which can add up I ended up paying a lot due to adding the sides, however I did remove the egg on the meal so I was assuming they would counteract that! However still such a nice experience I’ll be back !

Delicious food, decent coffee, friendly service and a great atmosphere! My friend and I came here for brunch and we both had the breakfast boards which was served to us by the friendly waiter not long after we had placed our order. Super efficient and the food was perfect for helping to nurse our 2 day grand final hangover! 🐯

Not till I sit and order that they inform me they're cash only because they're installing new EFTPOS. Who installs new EFTPOS at breakfast time before a long weekend?
Chris
For me, this place is all about the eggs benny. On my first visit I can't remember what I had but I remember everyone else in the group got the eggs benny and I had to sit there with food envy on a large scale. Fast forward to the second visit, said meal, very happy consumer.

Ordered the shakshuka with chorizo.. this was ok. Nice smoky flavour but mainly pureed tomatoes and 2 eggs. It was nice but nothing special and I've definitely had better.

We ordered the banana bread to share after reading all the reviews.. it looked amazing but was massively disappointing. The bread was dry and just bland. It lacked banana flavour and the stodgy/ squidginess of banana bread and had nothing special in it to warrant it getting such good reviews. The cream on top was the highlight

Also ordered a matcha latte which again was average and extremely small for the price.
Flying Forward
Points for: interior design, courtyard
Dine Time: Weekend lunch

Oh how I was disappointed by this experience.
I don't usually put up such critical reviews, but let's start from the beginning:

- got seated and no one came around to take our order for 15 minutes, even for coffees.
- waited around 20 minutes before coffees came out (ok, I understand it's a busy time)
- my strong latte tasted like a regular latte. In fact, it was the same colour as my friend's latte.
- the $4.50 side of thyme buttered mushrooms had no butter or thyme and looked like they had been blanched. As a bonus, it also included a strand of hair (pictured). I sent back the mushrooms and asked for it to be taken off the bill.
- The bread that came along with the shashouka wasn't toasted (then again, that's just my own expectations).
- The egg in the shashouka had a slightly off taste, like old eggs.
- The patty in the hamburger looked more like it was steamed. The colour was pale, with no crust from a pan or grill. It was tough and chewy, I don't know how they could have screwed this up so badly.
- The orange juice with the breakfast board was barely half full - or maybe it was half empty. You decide. (pictured)
- The toast with the breakfast board was hard as rock.
- The service was friendly, but maybe too friendly among themselves. I couldn't find anyone to get the bill, so I got up to the counter to find a group of them talking and messing around, but still not acknowledging me being there. Get your act together, seriously.
- When I was paying the bill, just before I tapped my card, I checked to see what was on the bill. They hadn't taken off the hair with mushrooms.

Now, for the saving graces:
- the tomato sauce in the shashouka was rich with a nice background heat
- the chips with the hamburger were nice and crispy, similar to Schnitz
- the avocado was indeed smashed

It seems when the previous head chef Ryan Lording left Tall Timber for Left Field, so did a lot of the talent.

I can't recommend this place, with so many decent cafes around Prahran. The menu is a very standard cafe fare and nothing really special. Then again why should I expect anything special? Silly me.

One word: shakshuka! Hard to say so just point when ordering, but SO easy to eat, perfect way to warm you up and make your tummy happy! Look forward to going back! Also great coffee and chippies!
Dam Burger
Great for brekky. On the right side of the street to get a small amount of sun shinning in on your day off too. Good service and coffee. Gets busy so get in early!

Came to Tall Timber on Saturday with my sister for brunch (around 12:30) and we were able to get a table straight away. The cafe is stylish with washed wood and chairs on the wall, and the staff are all very friendly.
My sister ordered the brekkie board, which was nice and a decent portion! Good serving of Bircher and a decent amount of smashed Avo, with toast and hummus and a glass of OJ. I had the smashed Avo and added some grilled tomato on the side. I personally think $4.5 is a bit steep for 1 tomato cut in half, but it was nice anyway. The capsicum hummus was really nice but the Avo just tasted a bit lacking. It was an "Avo salsa" instead of fresh Avocado and just felt like it was missing something.
All in all, though, the portions were good and the staff were great. Coffee was good as well.

Gorgeous brunch place, lots of seating choices and heaps of natural lighting.

The kombucha they served was delicious! Their spicy beef salad was tender, however overall, far mediocre. I had the super green salad, it didn't match up to my liking. The broccoli came in huge chunks and it was served cold. The bread that came alongside was delicious though! The poached eggs were overcooked.

Just an OK brunch place in general, wouldn't come back here.

Came here with my friend today, pool of people we are about queueing 5-10mins. Seating next to the door is not a really good place, SOOOO COLD!!!!

I've had sautéed cauliflower, came with huge amount, I love the presentation, it's a nice dish, full of fibre and vitamin hahahah:)

My friend ordered benedict, it's 😊 good. Also she had skinny flatwhite ☕️.

BTW, I PROBABLY WONT COME HERE AGAIN BECAUSE THEIR EFPOS HAS GOT SURCHARGE FEE AND DIDNT EVEN NOTIFY ME. THEY CALLED SERVICE FEE AND PLUS SERVICE FEE GST. IT IS RIDICULOUS👿

I was heading to Prahran market to have coffee passing this cafe decided to make U-turn to settle for light meal with my family.
All staff are very warm and polite also knowledgeable in food and beverages. Beautiful wooden natural setting and comfortable atmosphere.
Latte was perfectly strong, deep and creamy. I can feel Tall Timber's chef put efforts on each dishes that all beautiful selection of ingredients are keeping natural flavour, healthy and artistic.
My delicious dish was good portion for me decorated with colorful beets which have a characteristic sweetness and balanced well with shredded beetroot and smashed beans. I'm very happy to find this cafe.

The place is pretty busy inside. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Must say the breakfast has a lot of veggies in their menu options. I stuck to a simple egg benedict on toast and was alright.

A nice place for coffee and brunch. A beautiful Friday morning sitting outside the restaurant enjoying sunshine and coffee, nice experience. We ordered French toast and barramundi, both dishes are nicely displaced. The only disappointment was the matcha latte, it was tasteless.

Nice setting and good service and a great breakfast. I am a bit of a freeze but the outside setting with the heater was nice on a cold Melbourne morning. Breakfast was serviced quick and my eggs have been delicious
