Review Babble Bar & Cafe - Prahran

Kallum Phillips
First thing you notice coming in here is the fantastic smells from the kitchen! Coffee was fantastic and the fritter stack looked outstanding. Definitely worth waiting for - once you have tried it you'll understand why.

Used to love this place and come almost every Saturday while waiting for my child attends a dance class. I loved it for good price, quality food and friendly staff. But I didn’t enjoy today’s experience at all. I did some work while having food and coffee. When I ordered another coffee, I was told the maximum sitting hours is 1.5 hours and it’s nearly done (which had been only about an hour as I entered there right before 10 am). I didn’t know such things exist in this casual cafe. They only seem to care about money as I was sitting at a table myself. He truly ruined my Saturday morning mood. He asked what time I will leave and I said 20 minutes. I meant to leave after my second coffee but left earlier as I didn’t want to sit there another minute. Probably this is going to be my last coffee here when there are cafes in every second shop in this area. I don’t need cheap service on Saturday morning.

Nice little cafe, reasonably priced however had to wait quite a while for the food to arrive. Overall good!

Went to Babble Sunday morning for breakfast. The coffee was fantastic, and the food was amazing. Staff are all so lovely. The last time I'd eaten here was when the old carpark was still there! Now that I've rediscovered it I'll definitely be back.

Came here for the first time and had the BTL and added chicken. Super well balanced and taste amazing. Partner had the egg benedict. Not one crumb was left on the plate. Great value, great food and fantastic staff. I am excited to come back and try other items on the menu. Great spot for large groups or couples.

Came here with a friend today, I was blown away. the atmosphere is as good as you can expect, with outside dining which was nice. The light of the show was the food. I ordered the Eggs Benedict for $22 (I think), Amazing, so flavourful and well made. Maybe the best breakfast I ever had. Also note theres plenty of veg and gf meals available and peeking at a few tables they all look amazing.

Order a hot chocolate and a latte, went to pay once we where done and was told we order a latte and hot monk (didn’t even know what this was or that it was on the menu) said that’s not we ordered, told again in an aggressive way that’s what we ordered and if it was wrong we should have said so when they bought it to our table. Couldn’t tell you if it was a hot chocolate or a hot monk as we didn’t drink it as it wasn’t nice. Once again was told that’s what we ordered so I paid the amount and informed the lady we will never be back. If you want to be called a liar and put up with the staff having an argument over an $8 price difference go here if not avoid, whole situation was embarrassing and beyond ridiculous.

A really nice setting. That’s probably the reason I chose to finally sit and eat at this place - after walking past numerous times and catching a glimpse of the fresh rustic interior with the fire place setting. I sat on the elevated deck seating outside which was quite nice to be separated from the footpath while having some shade. Service was attentive. There was a mistake with the drinks order but it was remedied. Food was served timely and portions were large, I could not finish my wrap. Prices are on the costly side but that is expected for the setting and location of the cafe. This cafe is predominantly operating as a cafe and therefore close early, however, on a Saturday evening they are open late and it transforms into a bar! They do not serve food past a certain hour please note. I would like to return next time to try the Ginger Latte - something I have never heard of before!

Hoped for a lovely Saturday breakkie, turns out to be a bad decision to go to this place. The rating now clearly doesn't define this restaurant
While ordering Pancakes I clearly asked if they are freshly made. The server said they are. A stack appeared within 5 minutes, cold, chewy and clearly out served out of a packet. When I asked the server again if they are fresh he said 'let me check' and then goes on to say 'well you have already had some did you not like it?' Finding him rude I spoke to the owner who apologised saying it's probably due to the weather.
Today they lost a whole bunch of local customers for good thanks to this attitude.
There are many other cafes in the area who are honest and clearly state if their food is not fresh and assembled on the plate, with extremely friendly and courteous service. One would rather prefer honesty A wasted Saturday morning brekkie.
Quince And Cheese
I go here quite often for coffee, as they're one of the few places in the area open late. The space isn't overly trendy, but it's cosy with a log cabin vibe and friendly staff. They make a decent soy flat white, although I haven't tried food so can't vouch for or against it.

Great lunch spot in this nice cafe on a side street in Prahran. The venue was cosy and comfortable while the staff were friendly and the service was quick. We had the C.L.A.M toasted sourdough and the Cajun wrap and both were super tasty.

3.5/5
Nice friendly service here, and a great spot on a sunny afternoon.

They only have 1 tap beer, Sample Pale Ale which is always tasty. I was going out for dinner so this was a pre dinner drink.

And a relaxed vibe w some nice music to wind down with after a busy day. Very nice.

This place was a very pleasant surprise. Service is great, the menu is rich of choice, and food was very good, nicely presented too. Prices look fair and overall our experience was very positive and will definitely come back.

I have been here twice. I found the service staff to be friendly and cooperative, their coffee was really good. The place has a relaxed and comforting vibe.
KatMmm
From the outside, this place looks a bit average, but don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

Our whole experience was good. The staff were lovely, the food was reasonably-priced and tasty and the coffee was good.

This place isn’t flashy, but it is a good, solid cafe with a great vibe.
Max-A-Million
Low key restaurant with small outside dining area. We went here about 2 weeks ago for brunch because our usual spots we‘re booked out. Service was friendly and engaging. The menu sounded promising but what was served was disappointingly lackluster. Presentation was nice but the taste of the food and shakes we got was below average.
Wouldn‘t recommend going here for anything but a bev on their balcony.

Came here today for lunch . We had tea and coffee, Philly steak sandwich and egg Benedict, fresh food with friendly service. Nice location . Love the decor 🙌
Chey_ct
Nice cafe with a great setting. The menu is quite diverse and I like the fact that there are a lot of healthier options. I ordered the fritter stack which was well presented and a decent portion and the juice was lovely too. They were both delish. I was tempted by the cakes afterwards but I was too full by then!
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+Mixed juices
+Fries

Really wanted to like this place. The staff were fantastic, super friendly and the setting was great. Unfortunately, this time around we had more misses then we have hits. The mixed juice was great. Fresh, packed with zest and yum. The double fried chips were great (super crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside). However, it kinda went downhill from here. We had a mixed grill and unfortunately all the meats were over cooked. The pancakes were doughy and really thick. Would not take much to really get this place humming but it starts in the kitchen. Probably just an “off” day. Will be back to try some other time and have another shot.

The first place on the great entertainment book foodie tour. I had come to this place years ago when I used to live nearby and it’s nice to see it’s still going strong.

It’s in a delightful little building, and the whole side opens up with some outdoor tables. We must have picked the last warm day of the season!

I’m not one to write reviews but my poor dining experience here has lead to me write one.

The coffee orders were incorrect from the get the go, much confusion over a mere two coffee orders.

45 minutes after ordering we asked the staff where the food was only to be told we had supposedly made the order ‘12 minutes’ ago. Incorrect.

Food: Burger and baked eggs were uninspired and average at best.

The manager then came around apologising for the delay in food and kindly stated the coffees were on the house and asked if we’d like any more drinks on him. After refusing several times he insisted heavily we get a drink each on him. I ordered a coke.

Come bill time, only one coffee was deducted. We then enquired about why only one coffee had been deducted. The manager then went back on his word and said that because we ordered the Coke, only one coffee was deducted.

I’m really not sure why he told us it was all on him. Manager of Babble please do not state drinks are free and heavily insist on us ordering drinks then charge us.

Will not be recommending this place nor will I ever return.
Sir Brunch-A-Lot
Cosy little corner cafe & bar, with friendly laid back staff. Walking in, there’s a very American Midwest lake side feel to the place, super cosy on a rainy day like yesterday. We popped in for a late brunch. Had the eggs Benedict & the French toast; a traditional style eggs benedict which my partner really enjoyed. The French toast was simple & delicious also. Coffee and chia latte were both nice also. Would definitely return again to try the lunch & dinner menu or just for another simple traditional brunch.
Iamafatchicken
Quite a popular cafe situated near Prahran station with an extensive menu.

I had the Mexican burger with their Best Berry juice.
Burger was definitely good, and although it had interesting flavours, I think it missed the “Mexican” mark.
The juice was a bit steep, valued at $9. It certainly was full of berry flavour but was thrown off a little with the oaty taste.

Overall, would recommend burger fanatics to try the burger. It’s slightly below average size, but the side of chips definitely makes up for it.

Burger - 4/5
Juice - 3/5

Wow! The friendliest service ever! Only came here because another cafe was closed and what a pleasant surprise! Not just the service is excellent but the food as well. I had the breakfast special: 2 poached eggs with melted haloumi and spiced pumpkin - delicious! And they we’re also happy to create a fantastic fruit salad for my friend even though it wasn’t on the menu. They’ve got seating both inside and outside and great music that isn’t too loud. Fantastic experience and will definitely be back!

Your usual brunch fare. Nothing special. Corn fritters were a bit burnt and dry. Was quite busy as we went around new year period so took awhile to get a seat/served.

Great food, Great location...lovely staff...coming back again for sure.......one of the best cafe in Prahran.. Babble cafe got fire place as well that's good for winter to relax.
Simmyeats.Melb
Had an fantastic latte here today, well balanced and full strength. I haven't been here in years, I should really come back to try the food next time. Outside seating here is great, the sun was out so it was perfect.
Jessica Orrey
Every time we go in here it's great! The staff are really friendly and helpful, the food is served quickly and is delicious, they have amazing thickshakes (I'd recommend the strawberry one) and they have food specials most nights, like $20 parma & drink.
Gotham
Clean eating and not so clean eating, depending on your mood! Friendly staff and coffee is fine. Laid back vibe and a nice little sun catching location.
Dam Burger
Nice setting high above the street so look at on a nice day or sit by the fire on a cold day. Great to have the share platter with friends. Great piriathan Shiraz. Fridays has parma night with glass of wine for only $20.
Sabby
Have been here a few times, and do enjoy the atmosphere, just not a fan of people on the benches outside smoking. Food wasn't overly impressive, but the vibe was ambient enough. Thoroughly disappointed by the Spanish omelette with a nimber of spices and herb mixed into the egg that didn’t belong; eggs were unfortunately quite rubbery.
Julia Stehli
Worst pancakes I ever had in Melbourne. Left 3/4 of it uneaten. Arrived tasteless and cold. Will definitely not return. Outdoor seating area is too small - waiters cannot pass without almost pushing guests from their chairs.
Nibble And Wander
Babble Cafe and Bar is amongst the many little cute cafes in Prahran, just behind Woolies and Coles! Plenty of parking just next door to the cafe/bar. First impressions? Looked like a cute cottage with dark walls/floors, simple/bar like decor with seats inside and out overlooking the car park. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner but even if you come just for drinks it's pretty cool. The staff there are extremely bubbly and friendly, service wasn't too long too. The food was your norm brunch food, really generous servings though. I got the baked eggs and I think there could be a more tomatoy taste to it and maybe some chilli flakes on the side next time, need something to lift it a little. The stacks were huge, quite heavy but tasty. Would come back to try other dishes as they had a really big menu and even if it's casual drinks after work, less than 5 minutes walk from Prahran station.

Food: the usual brunch fair done well. I've sat down here on a quiet arvo and shared some dishes with a friend in the past which were OK too. I've been here a few times and it is a bit hit and miss - needs more consistency.

Service/Ambience- attentive and helpful. It's a great corner spot just off Greville.

Worth going too and trying out. Good for people watching too if you sit outside.
World In A Bite
Food 1.5: I think the food was quite average... baked eggs dish was good but could be more tomato saucey! Fritters dish was yummm

Service 1.5: superb! Very friendly! The Dutch girl was very kind and helpful to me ☺️

Decoration & atmosphere 1: dimmed , cozy feel
Check Please
This cafe has seemed to have been here for a long time, but my visit was a first. Very interesting menu, prefect for my GF friend. We had generous salads which were loaded with terrific fresh ingredients and were yummo. Recommend.

Came here today for a Sunday lunch and was not disappointed at all! The restaurant is located on a corner on Izett street and we were lucky enough to get an outdoor corner table! It was a lovely sunny day and the atmosphere was great. The service was super friendly and happy as well.
We started with some milkshakes- I got a cappuccino milkshake and Josh got a chocolate! They were really delicious - perfect balance of sweetness and flavour!
Josh got the Cajun chicken wrap and I got the C.L.A.M (Chicken, Lettuce, Avo, Mayo) sandwich with a side of fries (because... of course). It was sensational! The sandwich was so delicious, perfectly toasted and full to the brim of delicious real chunks of chicken and avocado. The mayo had a slight sweetness to it but it wasn't overpowering at all and was actually really delicious and I could really taste the chives in there as well. I couldn't actually fault the sandwich. The Chips were also fantastic- light and fluffy inside and crispy on the outside and came with a delicious relish.
Josh also loved his wrap and devoured it in about 2 minutes flat! We will definitely be coming back here!

Babble Bar and Cafe is one of several eateries in that slightly more laid back area of Prahran in between Commercial Road and Chapel Street. It serves a good selection for breakfast and lunch and a small – but fairly varied dinner menu. It’s a medium-sized cafe, with both indoor, and undercover outdoor seating. The fit out is gorgeous, and when we walked in there was a good atmosphere, with plenty of babbling; we were excited, it felt like we were in an Austrian ski chalet at the height of the season. Unfortunately our excitement soon fell flat.

Quite a nice little surprise tucked away off Chapel and Greville Streets. I've been meaning to try Babble for some time, but it's always seemed so busy. Fortunately, today it was fairly quiet so my wife and I decided to give it a go.

We were greeted by two friendly staff members in turn, one lady and one gent, who seated us at an outdoor seat near the entrance which was sheltered from the drizzle and warmed by the heater. Attentive service throughout our visit was assured and all of our plates were very promptly taken away once finished with.

We started off with soy lattes which, admittedly, were amongst the smoothest and best that I've personally enjoyed. My wife enjoyed hers too. Very well made indeed.

The main meals were also superb. My wife's BLT didn't disappoint and was of a decent size and quite filling. The only thing that seemed disappointing was slightly burned edges on the toast - otherwise, fantastic.

My "Perfect Porridge", as stated on the menu, was indeed that, absolutely perfect. Delightfully creamy and light, terrific texture and extremely flavoursome with the honey and pear combination. Highly recommended.

Overall, a great experience and well worth a visit - great ambience, customer service and good quality.

Best food in Melbourne! Not to mention I got my $50 back from Liven. We wanted a cozy, warm and relaxing place to dine and I found the perfect spot right in Babble Bar. Perfect place to relax

This place was a bit of a miss for me. Service was sloppy, the waitress was friendly but a little unprofessional, she looked like she was drunk, yelling out random things from the bar and just being way over the top with her approach. As for the food, it average. They forgot our sides and apologized but we were still charged. We heard the table next to us asking for their meals as they had been waiting 40 minutes. Just felt a bit off for me.
Mika
Terrible service. Always forgot our order . Average wait for more than 45mins. One of the waitress is rude to customer. Push us to another table in a very rude way.
Cray
Ordered the chapel street hangover breakfast, eggs your way with 4 sides. An extra $3 pp. Groupon was $19 for 2 people with juice. All fresh ingredients, pleasant meal and friendly staff. Ref happy snaps!
Good Food Good Mood
There is no sincerer love than the love for a perfectly executed chicken Parma. Pairing it with a mango daiquiri may seem an odd choice to some but I was one happy camper on Friday night. The sauce was rustic and basil infused and the cheese topped with oregano. Choice between salad and chips (is that even a choice) I was loving the vibe in the converted weatherboard house. Note the menu did also cater for the more discerning taste with the likes of confit duck ravioli or sticky fig lamb rack with danish feta vol au vant on the menu. Loathe the minimal street parking (#southyarralife) but love the warm and cosy atmosphere. Would certainly return
Harleen Kaur
Love it for the ambience.
There is not a lot of traffic around which makes it easy to enjoy your meal. The food is good and portions are filling. I loved their freshly prepared juices. The menu has a variety of dishes to choose from. The staff is polite.
The coffee was alright. I had a long black but didn't quite enjoy the taste of it.
A must visit place.
Hotshot
My wife had the "lamb mince omelette" n I had the "old faithful", the food was great n my wife could not finish hers.. :-( too big for her to eat.
The only thing is with the old faithful, personally think there should be two slices of toast..instead of one thin slice..
Vegieface
We got two of the "Old Faithfuls" with only vegetarian options, and while there wasn't exactly anything particularly outstanding to it, it was enjoyable, simple, and filling. Staff are lovely, playlists are quality, and general ambience makes for a pretty good experience. Coffee and chai was pretty great, and the eggs were perfectly poached - look at that beautifully oozing yolk.
The place is always humming with customers, so it seems like a nice place off Chapel to meet friends.
Mangomango
Parking is not a pain as next to Coles. Lovely food with generous serving. Love the calamari salad and lamb cutlet.
Love the ease atmosphere.
Chua Lucas
One of the best brunch in Melbourne I've ever had, good vibe, good location away from cbd. Plenty choice of dishes compared to other Cafe. The portion is big as well
FOOD TRIP
Always busy and full of chatter on the weekend. Cosy little place situated comfortably on the corner street in Prahran. Coffees aren’t great but the food is yummy. Very bitter and froth was too airy. 2/10. Sweet Potato Chips $10. Probably the best sweet potato chips I’ve had. Super crispy and naturally sweet. Not oily at all. 9/10
Carien
Not very pleasant experience unfortunately, staffs don't seem to be quite happy serving customers and my bowl of chips almost fell onto floor and the waitress just walked away.
Casselly Main
Decent food, well priced. The staff are always a bit bored looking and dismissive. Coffee hipster's attitude sucks, but to his credit he has mastered the hospitality eye roll.
Nelly
For dinner on a week night they had enough patrons to keep them busy. But it was still a quiet atmosphere, easy to sit back and relax.

I ordered the barramundi which regretfully was over cooked. It was just to dry but the skin was crispy as promised. I would have eaten it all up if it was not so heavily salted. Thank goodness for the tomato and fenel it brought some balance back. For me there still just was too much salt.

My husband ordered the steak special. Its was not cooked to order, it was also over done. However this time not as much. As for the Smokey mayonnaise and chutney they were just delicious. So the salty issue occured on my dish only.

Then came the dessert which was so good my husband was raving on about for the rest of the night. What was it? Brownie, with vanilla ice cream and cherries. A simple notion yes, but damn if it tastes like this it could be served in a pile of crumbs and my husband would still devour it. Oh and my husband is not a brownie fan. Do I really need to say more?

Dessert really brought up the score for me. But as I said my husband steak whilst was overdone was still really good...
Samantha Davis
Wow!
Great coffee, great sound track, wifi.
Mid morning Monday its quiet, a few people, like me using this lovely sun filled dinning room as their office, left blissfully to ourselves.
Dinner menu looks great too.
Will definitely be back.
Selina
Great quiet place for coffee and good food, especially the calamari salad & sweet muffins. Nice cosy atmosphere especially in winter with the open fire!
Brungiel
Not a huge fan of Babble Bar, I find the atmosphere a bit stifling for some reason. The food is ok but pretty expensive for the servings, and the coffee is fairly bland and usually made too hot.
Z For GoodFood
I have to say the stuff are very friendly and greeted us well....
However, the food didn't meet my expectations....
The steak sandwich looked amazing- but the lovely waitress( obviously juggling cleaning tables, taking orders and seating people) forgot to ask how we'd like it's done- in the end it came well done; doesn't taste like 'well done' dish unfortunately
I had the chapel street hangover (what A cool name and you get to pick what you want from a range of choices) but I felt the salmon was not as fresh as I had hoped, the hollandaise sauce and avo smash were very average- the beans are the only highlight and they were indeed quite nice

Probably not gonna go again as there are many many cafes, not to mention the Prahran market itself!
Grace Sia
I’ve been here a couple of times in the past but since it is a bit out of the way for me, I don’t go to this area as often as I’d like. Prahran in general is a really nice suburb with lots of public transport and stylish shops, stylish people and stylish places to eat. We ordered a couple of juices but they were only average.
GB
The Snickers milkshake and cookies and cream milkshake are heavenly!! Burger meals are excellent too. Have never been disappointed coming here and would come back again.
Christina
My fav place off Greville street. Food is tasty. Even better in winter when the restaurant has a glow. Food is warming like a home cooked meal. Staff are always great too. Parking isnt a bitch as next to the coles car park so out your car and in the door in under 5mins.
Bec Martinez
An oldie but a goodie. Perfect for Sunday brunch. The lunches are great also. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. I've never had a bad meal there, and have been going there for years
Keen For Cuisine
Nice food in Prahran! Came here for brunch one day on a voucher and received great service! The food was really good and great value for money. HIghly recommend!

Great little bar/ cafe that I've walked by so often and meant to call in. Well I'm glad I did as the food was great! My friend and I shared a platter which was delicious especially the Saganaki and the lamb ribs were tender and juicy.

The staff were lovely and the bartenders make a mean Pimm's jug. All in all a great little place and definitely worth a visit.
AimB
Amazing food, great dining space and delicious coffee! Just to top it off the staff are so nice and personable they make you feel at home!

Oh and the coffee is on point!
Food Comatose
We ordered the Chocolate Protein smoothies, a muffin and banana bread. The smoothies were delicious and very filling - we couldn't finish them! The house-made toasted banana bread served with passionfruit and mascarpone was divine, I must say.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
I hate parking in Prahran, but given the large number of eateries there I can’t avoid it forever. Today we paid a visit to Babble Bar and Cafe, an established business located near the markets. Operating out of a converted weatherboard house, it’s been running for more than 20 years

Popped by for an early morning pre-work breakfast with a colleague.

Opted for the 'stack attack' and a mocha - the coffee arrived but was average and bitter. Service was similar to the coffee; so far, not distinctly impressed.

The stack attack arrived - what is generally a standard dish on many Cafes menu, was poorly executed and tasted quite bizarre. All of the elements alone are okay but together along with the strange tasting fritters was largely inedible. I left more than half of the meal - an absolute rareity for me.

The sweet corn fritter tasted strange, the avocado was overripe and off and the chutney was very, very peculiar.

There was plenty of options on the menu however, so it could be just a bad choice or a bad day in the kitchen but I wouldn't rush to return.

Went here after work just on our way to the train station. Was only planning on having a coffee but were sold on the $20 steak night which they have on Thursday. You get a steak, chips and salad which is pretty alright. We both had the same meal, and was a bit disappointed in what they classified as a Salad. It was basically rocket with olive and a small piece of parmesan buried in there somewhere. Good thing though it came with a drink so it was well worth it... Would definitely come back on a Thursday!
Christian Clarke
Good little place for lunch. Good food and service, nothing to rave about, but does the job. Lots of outside seating for us smokers with a gr8 view of the Coles car park lol
Penguineats
The muffin was simply divine. Firstly, it was served warm. The slightly crusty and crunchy outer wrapped a soft and moist and fluffly muffin, with bits of choc-chip that weren’t overly sweet nor overpowering.

This, compounded with smooth cream cheese on top and the slight sourness of the strawberries made for a perfect combination of flavours and textures. The melty chocolate-egg on top was a nice touch and definitely finished off the muffin well.

Amazing food and amazing people. The chilled atmosphere is amazing, food is cheap for the proportion you get and delicious. The coffee is the best though!

This is the first time I have felt the need to write a review. The establishment looked like a 'happening' place so decided to try it out. Myself and my partner were initially served by a terrific waitress who helped us get seated and took our order. The food was delievered to us by another waitress this time (with red hair) who upon placing the meals down dropped the tomato chutney off the plate and onto my shirt. The chutney bowl landed face down and poured onto my clothing. The waitress did not seem concerned but instead left to go get soda water. She passed me a bottle of soda water and a cloth and told me to go to the bathroom to clean up. I did as I was instructed and waited for the toilet to become available. Once available I got as much of the stain out as I could and left the toilet with a wet shirt and returned the soda water and cloth. My food had now gone cold. Both myself and my partner worked in hospitality for a number of years and understand that mistakes inevitably happen. The problem was that the waitress didn't apologise once, it was as if it was my fault for sitting there for the chutney to fall on me and inconvenience her by having to go get a cloth. We were nice about it all which was perhaps to our detriment. We were still charged full price and as I left with a wet top not so much as a 'sorry' was ever uttered. The food and fruit juice was fine but the quality of the food was overshadowed by a remarkably rude incident.

Quirky and a one-of-a-kind building in Prahran.

Looks like an outback pub, interesting fit-out, veranda looks smart and pleasant to hangout. A few proverbs along the walls, country homestead chandelier and it feels like home.

What a super pleasant service.....casual style, yet very professional, only two on the floor, but they were attentive and enjoyable, nice touch that the waiter complimented my Batik shirt and not my wife :-)

2013 Victorian Pinot Noir was okay, but not at $10/glass, Golden Gaytime Cocktail too.

Entree Scallops were over-cooked, nice combo.
The two mains; Eyefillet Steak was not cooked properly, more on Medium-rare, a bit meaty-tough, while accompanying Rosti was great.
Barramundi was perfect, crispy skin and the accompanying potatoes too.
Dessert; Sticky Date Pudding has lost its moist texture, too sweet and not enough Butterscotch sauce.

Great coffee, Soy Latte that was.
I trust that the kitchen will wow us next time.

Beautiful evening at Babbles.
My friends and I came to Babbles on a Saturday night with no reservation and were seated at a table right away. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was laid back with easy listening music. The food was amazing, between us we had the sweet potato chips, fish, calamari salad, lamb cutlets and pasta. No complaints, the food was absolutely delicious. We had 2 jugs as well, total cost $30 each (4 total) with the entertainment card. Definitely recommend!

These guys apparently had no available all weekend to use a Scoopon even though I was willing to come at any time. I haven't had a problem with other restaurants. Wouldn't recommend.

We ADORE this cafe - it's the perfect place to grab coffee or a bite regardless if it's raining, sunny, cold or warm! The cafe adapts to all weather with their working fireplace inside and their large wraparound balcony outside!
The staff is always super attentive but really laid back which makes you feel as if you're at breakfast with your mates!
The menu could use some spicing up but all of the food we've tried has been great! I love the Coconut Muesli and my other half always goes for the Spartan Omelette - absolute classics!

I have passed by Babble hundred times (almost!), and always seen the place full, busy and vibrant. My first visit confirmed the good vibe of this place. The place has a great ambience, upbeat music, and a very charming vintage style. It is mostly visited by a young-ish crowd, but you can find people of all ages there.

Their menu is extensive with a mix of everybody's favourite dishes and more edgy ones, with a good selection of vegetarian friendly dishes. I had the Salute to the Sun breakfast super foods salad, with an extra egg. I was very good. The eggs were perfectly poached, and the hole salad was filling, fresh and a nice lunch. A good portion size as well.

Their ice latte, however, was mediocre.

Service is fast for clearing tables, but the pace is on the slow side for bringing good to the table.

It would benefit them paying a bit of more attention to the plating of the dishes.

A great joint with very lovely welcoming staff and lovely foodf.

I went here with a friend and I liked that the waitress was very friendly. I had Spanish omelette and that was really filling but I can't say that it left me wanting to have some more. It's a big portion for me. I also had a glass of juice. My experience in regards to food was average.

Really enjoyed Babble , just off the Chapel St strip , great burger options and plenty to choose from on the menu. The dessert options could not be faulted ...decided on the Sticky Date Pudding and the Coconut Pana Cotta. We will return.

A small cafe located very close to Chapel St. It's right opposite a carpark, which is convenient. The first thing I noticed about the cafe as I walked in was how ridiculously noisy it was! We visited at 1pm on a Thursday afternoon and most of the tables were filled. Can't imagine what it would be like on a weekend.

Service was so-so. The waiters weren't very attentive, and on top of that the food took a while to come out - we waited for over 30 mins for 3 dishes.

However, the delicious food totally makes up for it. I got the Savage Beast Focaccia, which is one of the best sandwiches I have ever tasted. All the components went together incredibly well and every mouthful packed a punch of flavour! It was a really generous serving and came with a fresh side salad. I was filled to the brim but finished it anyway because it was so tasty.

My dining companions ordered the Stack Attack (corn & chickpea fritter stack) and the warm chicken salad, both of which were enjoyed very much. The coffees were also great - very strong and velvety.

I'm keen to return despite the service which isn't as up to par with their food.
Always Choose Pizza
Nothing really that standout about Babble but they offer two eggs on toast with any four sides, naturally I ordered the 4 meats. Classic golden tunes playing and no regrets

I haven't been here in a while and i think it's safe to say there has been a change in ownership. After taking a seat, a waitress come over and gave us water and menus and impatiently asked what we wanted to drink as if she was annoyed by us even being there. We didn't even get a "hello" off her. Awkward to say the least.

I know why there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant.

Won't be returning anytime soon.

Coffee here is average but everything else is great. ESPECIALLY the snickers thick shake is to die for! Food is overall flavoursome. Though I recommend against the roast veggie sandwich. Their juices are freshly made. Service is generally good. Have been here a dozen or so times and keep coming back as they are pretty consistent. Menu is extensive and the thick cut chips are spot on! Most of the staff are friendly.

The food here is above average. The fried potato was quite special and the steak was nicely cooked. the service is good and the staff is friendly. There are plenty of choices on the menu and the price is fair..@Babble Cafe Prahran

Fantastic food! Loved every bit. We went in for a late lunch and had the minute steak fillet, nicoise salad and sweet potato chips, for drinks we had the green turbo smoothie and iced chocolate. The steak was tender and juicy (the waitress didn't ask how we wanted it when we made the order, it came out around medium well) and the mushroom sauce also yummy. Both the steak and nicoise salad came with Kipfler potato chips which were very crispy. A generous serving of vegetables - broccoli and asparagus (around 7-8 pieces) was included in the steak as well which we shared because there was plenty. Tasted amazing with the sauce. My nicoise salad was also incredible! The sesame-roasted tuna was fresh, delicious and tender. The combination of lettuce, semi-dried tomatoes, marinated olives, crisp long beans and in particular the soft-boiled egg made the dish unique and the dressing of mustard aioli matched well with the selection of vegetables. Last of all, the sweet potato chips also won our hearts as they were perfectly fried and the spicy mayonnaise was also great to dip in. We just couldn't stop eating them! We'll definitely be back. Keep up the good stuff!

My friends and I recently went to babble for a late Sunday brunch. The place was buzzing but the staff were not! They were rude, abrupt and did not show any interest to our table. They consistently made passive aggressive remarks when we politely asked for service after we'd patiently been waiting. The food was delicious but the staff left a foul taste on our experience!
The Indulging Chef
We wandered into this cafe for lunch, as it was a nice sunny day we were hoping to sit outside but as tables are very very limited we were shown to a table inside. To our amazement there was no air conditioning within the cafe and the folding doors were closed which saw the interior of this cafe get a little uncomfortable and we were starting to perspire. The waitresses in there summery short shorts and loose fitting tees made us feel welcome. We didn't waste anytime quenching our thirst with the free water before ordering a BLT on sour dough and there handmade chicken Parma, both came with chips and both meals were OK. It was good to see a couple of boutique beers on the menu and one which was locally produced "Doss Blockos". After we received our meals that's where the good service ended, over 20 minutes went by since we finished our meals and we had not seen a waitress come to clear our plates and enquire if we wanted anything else, it wasn't until we grabbed a waitresses attention that we were able to have our plates cleared.... We were looking at getting dessert and coffee but considering the amount of time that was wasted with us waiting for service we just grabbed a coffee. Overall not a bad cafe, food didn't wow us and service was quite poor.

We came in over the weekend and the place was buzzing as usual. Sat inside and waited about 10 minutes to order a coffee and meals - coffee came in quick as did the chai almond latte which was good.

The meals itself came 30 minutes later - the eggs benedict my partner had was good - eggs well cooked but my wild mushrooms on toast was not good - so much rocket, burned pine nuts and powdery ricotta. If I came back I would try something else as the menu looked good and the staff were good too. Not much room if you have children like us (they aren't with us on this review) but if you have a dog you can sit out the front too!

Just had 4pax family meal using Scoopon. The Seafood pasta tasted REALLY good! Too bad the Dinner Menu wasn't available on a Sunday, and the music was a tad loud. The atmosphere was vibrant & warm. And using the voucher, this was really a fantastic bargain with great food, & attentive waiters.

Came here a month earlier with a Scoppon voucher and was not disappointed with the food or quality of service.

The Kipler chips were nice and crispy.
Confit duck ravioli was beautifully presented and also delicious.
Lamb strap ribs were a little tough around the tendon/bone but otherwise very tasty. The vol au vent added a nice contrast in texture to the leafy greens as an accompaniment to the dish.
Spinach and polenta gnocchi in it's unusual semi circular shape were fluffy and soft, however I did find the sauce to be a little too tart for my personal tastes.

Overall, I enjoy the food here and would consider coming back even without a voucher.
Avolette
Delightful freshly squeezed juices to start the day or lazy weekend. Decent coffee. Breakfast was fine but nothing memorable. Dining companion had the pancakes and said that they were fluffy and delicious.

Pros: Amazing food (seriously), awesome music, nice drinks, pleasant staff (all of them, especially the lovely H), great coffee, pleasant atmosphere.

Cons: Inside is a little crowded, can be cold at night even with the heater working, a little pricey (though the food makes up for it)

Overall it was a nice experience, and I will definitely be going back for the sticky lamb rack of ribs with friends.

Great little spot, with an extremely large menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Was spoilt for choice! Great, laid back atmosphere, lovely staff and great sandwiches.

I have been to Babble probably three times in the past five years. My first two experiences were really great (both of these times I went for dinner with friends) however my most recent experience was super mediocre. I went for a few after work beverages. The waitress clearly sucked at life - she failed to greet us when we entered Babble, she moseyed over in her own time and pointed to a table without saying a word, and grunted when she took our drink order. Don't worry folks she is capable of stringing a sentence together because she was very mouthy when I asked whether she had served me the correct drink as it tasted odd. Apparently I do not know what my go-to drink is suppose to taste like :) My work colleagues and I stayed for 30 minutes and then left. Get a new job babe, waitressing ain't for you.

I have been coming here quite a lot for coffee with work colleagues however unfortunately have had a few sour experiences with staff. When I got given a small coffee after paying for a large, I reminded the barista/owner that I paid for three larges to the my disgust he gave me the biggest eye roll and puffed, I just walked out. I decided to give it a go the next day being fresh minded and was left standing at the counter whilst three staff members chatted and ignored me and finally after avoiding eye contact and pretending to be "busy" for 15 minutes he greeted me with a "yep". I find this customer service disturbing not only coming from the staff but especially the owner. I can confidently say there will be no third chance.

Appears that ownership may have changed as the food and value for money is not the same as a couple of years ago. What a shame.
Choc Pudding
I like how you can sit outside, it is pretty nice to face the street from higher up. The food was okay, although I wish they had given less toast and more scrambled egg instead of the other way. My friend and I had their juice and it was pretty good, came in a big jar too. The let down is that the food took long to come out.
TBMoftheWEST
Great coffee and the most awesome cookies and cream thick shake I've ever tasted.
David is a star operator in this ubercool old English Manor style cafe/bar.
Top marks.

Having been to Babble countless times over the past 10+ years, I've seen the change in demographic, menu, fitout and staff come and go. Have visited twice in the past month and both times only had an average time.

Breakfast on a Saturday morning, gone are the days of a lazy, laid back meal, reading the papers. Instead a hectic, loud, kid filled cafe awaits you. The food was tasty - the spanish omlette was delicious! Service was mediocre.

Second time was for dinner. Ambience was much more to my liking (no kids) and minimal noise. What let it done was the waitress. Seemed genuinely annoyed that she had to take orders and to the point she looked straight at me, when I politely tried to get her attention and then turned away, continuing on with what she was doing. The steak special which she has no trouble spruiking was actually really good. Cooked medium rare, super crispy chips and housemade tomato relish. The food and mulled wine made up for the unwelcome service.

With the mature Melbourne food scene, it is hard to find a place that serves bad food. My order of sweet potato fries and friend's burger was done well. But the let down was the service.
The waitress we had did not make us feel welcome. When we moved to sit outside, she frowned because we didn't take our cutlery when in reality no cutlery was provided in the first place. Drinks and food were slow to come even though the place was not busy and she was not attentive because we had to ask for cutlery and drinks again from another waitress.

Besides that one waitress, and slow service, the other waitress in charge was friendly and she made sure everybody was okay.

Ambience wise, the deco is interesting and confusing. Has a cabin feel indoors but also a pub feel and has outdoor seating (good for people watching) but bad layout because it is hard to sit as no space to squeeze behind people if they are seated at the corners.

Overall wasn't the best first impression.

Came here for my birthday to spend a quiet evening with friends and family. The hostess who served us was very friendly and knew her job well. It's very tranquil inside the cafe so we loved the atmosphere. Standard pub menu with slight twists here and there. I ordered their semolina and spinach gnocchi which looked better on the menu than it actually tasted. The flavours are not quite right. The cocktails were nice though. Friends ordered chicken burgers which were good but the barramundi fish wasn't quite right due to the smell.
We enjoyed though, as the ambience was lovely.
Thank you for having us!

Went here with 2 of my girlfriends last week and we were a little bit disappointed.. We ordered drinks and they took at least 15min (one of our friends waited more than 25 min for hers). When we got the drinks they tasted more or less like cordial and lemonade, not fresh at all, just super sweet and dull..
But one thing that was good was the place it self and the wonderful staff!

Where does one begin.. outdated furniture.. overpriced.. bad coffee.. food from the millenium.. chef sitting on top of fridge in kitchen near toilets with an open tray of pork on bench.
Red hair tattooed girl with such attitude.. boasing everyone around and speaking so rudely.
Tall blonde hair girl.. again so rudely.. waited outside for 30 mins and was not served once by anyone.. she walks over and blurts out ever so rudely "whaddya after".. at this point i decided to stay just solely to see what happens next..
Order wrong
Dried up food
Bitter watery coffee
I suggest EVERYONE STAY AWAY.. not to mention the red hair girl telling people in front of children about her sexual adventures on the weekend. . AVOID ...ABSOLUTELY AVOID.

Had a birthday at Babble Bar on a Saturday night & was very cosy inside with the fireplace on, while it was raining & cold outside. They had organised platters for all the birthday guests with fish & chips, vol-au-can't, rice balls, mini souvlaki's etc. tried a few and they were nice. Filled everyone up & no one left hungry. Will go back to try there normal menu.

Came to Babble with a few friends on a Saturday morning after a hectic bootcamp session. We were all very prepared for a large, filling meal, and were very happy to get one.
I ordered the corn fritters with added poached egg (turns out i seriously didn't need the extra protein, it was big enough already), and my friends ordered the baked eggs with pulled pork and poached eggs on toast with bacon and hash browns.
All were yummy meals, and most importantly, the poached eggs were all RUNNY, the way they should be!

Have been here before that, and will definitely come after!
