Review Ladro - Prahran

Fabubuz Bubuz
Came here weekend evening and had no issue getting a table for two. We ordered a pizza, squid ink pasta, rocket salad and few drinks. Gotta say the rocket salad is the homerun, just simply delicious. It's sweet, refreshing and right balance of everything. The pizza is ok and the pasta abit blant and plain. Sat outdoor and still managed to keep warm by the heater. Great experience thus def coming back

Really good service… Friendly and good vibe!!! Tasty food and fair price.

Beautiful backyard, fresh air and cute olive trees. 2nd time to have our Christmas party there and the food and drinks are extra bonus. Great job.
Carys Durie
Such a cool spot, great food and beer.

A prize for anyone who can find spritz in this 'prosecco'! Apparently it's from a fresh 'keg'. Poor attitude from the staff member when we asked about it; crossing Ladro off the list - too many good wines to drink and other great places to spend our money! Also, I might be old fashioned, or maybe it's just working in the industry, but I'd prefer any type of sparkling wine glass.

Great nibbles and larger meals. Amazing indoor and outdoor seating options, nice venue to hanging out at.

Came here for drinks, sat outside on a table under the heaters. Seemed pretty nice but we saw a mouse in the restaurant through the glass. And because our table was lower than the restaurant floor, it was right at your eye level. Ha ha ha.

I moved from a farm where I lived of kangaroo meat for many years. This is a nice change from kangaroo everyday. I have already tried krispy cream and is is on top. This place is just below that. Really appreciate this service but the pasta was mid

Ladro TAP is one of my favourite haunts for a deliciously flavoured local beer, a glass of prosecco or vino and an authentic wood-fired pizza. The staff are always friendly and the food would make an Italian feel right at home. Great for a quick beer, a night out with friends, a romantic dinner or an early family dinner.

Bot only did the food look amazing it tasted even better. I recommend this place to anyone if you are in the area. Yuuuuum!!☕️
Terrie Sorenti
Great place, friendly staff, lovely food and happy hour, outside area perfect on a warm evening, downside is that I am now back in the UK!
Mark Houston
Quick lunch and vino. Food for both of us was good, service fine. Trendy area = trendy price mark up. Good experience but better value away from here.
Fabian Diaz Moreno
Nice place to catch up with friends. Good food. Great drinks and excellent service.

Pizzas have a soggy base and are overpriced. They're ok but I've had better
Hilary Sitas
Great spot with great food and service. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Having eaten here with my husband several times previously. Last Saturday evening they were understaffed, ignored our table till we asked for service various times during the evening, we waited ages for drinks, food came out cold and then took ages to order dessert, waited again only to be served cold coffee. Once complaining to a waiter who seemed to tell me he was the manager for the evening, he walked off mid conversation and left me there with our actual waiter who didn't actually apologize till we asked for the bill. They comped our desserts but still...such poor service I don't think we'll come back to what used to be a favourite dinner spot. Disappointed.

The staff were really great, and loved the food. Nice selection of beer on tap.

Love it! Try the J Lo. Best pizza ever! Lots of great options even if you are not big on pizza. Their gluten free bases are pretty tasty too!
Damian Roberts
The old at Ladro as good as ever. The pork gnochi ragu very good
Veet Carr
It's all about that base. Great atmosphere and authentic menu. Wish they delivered
Lauren Petri
Slow service extremely basic and tasteless food for the price

I called in here for a pre dinner drink. The service was excellent, really attentive with out being too attentive. <br/><br/>My aperol spritz was really good, in fact so good I had to stop myself from ordering another one haha.<br/><br/>This place was busy with families and singles eating and a small crowd when I was there enjoying some drinks. <br/><br/>I had a nice time and I’ll be back lol.

Delicious pizzas,<br/>The base was exquisite<br/>We had the Gamberi (prawn pizza)<br/>& the Porchini & Gorgonzola pizza
Dine And Dash
Came here for dinner tonight at around 6 pm with a friend.<br/><br/>We ordered two margarita pizzas and a beer each. The pizza was delicious! Very stringy and cheesy. We found the customer service to be very good - both waitresses who served us were attentive, friendly and catered to our needs.

Great range of beers on tap. Tasty ‘Italian’ style fries. Roaring fire. Hozier streaming making for a chilled out atmosphere. Not bad on a cold Sunday night.
Lennonmeribel
Delicious Raghu parpadelle and Margherita pizza. Herb oil on the pizza was sweet and delicious. The only negative is that the tap san Giovese wine wasn’t very nice and the wine list was very small and limited choice. It would be great to have BYO here all the time. Thanks for a great dinner

After hearing great things about Ladro TAP we decided to try it out ourselves. The reviews are spot on, great food, great service with a smile and great atmosphere, will definitely recommend

Ladro is the best pizza in Melbourne. The standard never deviates from high quality, perfectly cooked pizza with polite, efficient service in a cool restaurant. With or without the kids it’s a favourite restaurant destination.

Looking a place for a beer. This place looked appealing offering a good happy hour deal! The place was so cosy and well styled. Great options beers on tap available and staff quite attentive

This was a huge disappointment and mistake. Their pizza is faraway from being called a pizza, but rather a shoe sole. It had exactly 3 little miserable pieces of mozzarella on it. Very stingy with the ingredients and very bad with the whole look of it. I’ve asked for an additional ingredient on the pizza which wasn’t a problem until at the moment of the bill I found out how overcharged this was:$5!!! Let me point out that the ingredient wasn’t between the ones on the menu, so there was no price for it and no one bothered to come and say it would cost that. Well, I see what they are called “ladro” which in Italian means a thief. Anyway, as this wasn’t enough, they also came and suddenly remove our glasses and the bottle of water without a word, as to say we had to leave. Subtle but rude. Would suggest to avoid this place.

First things first. Let’s talk food. Because let’s face it, it’s the main reason you’ve chosen the restaurant your currently sitting or going to! Pizza cravings were high this week, and not for those fat laden type you’ve grown up on from your local pizza shop (don’t get me wrong there’s a time and place for those), but no for a authentic, simple yet full of flavour pizza that doesn’t send you running to the rest room! Ladro TAP certainly delivered tonight, even though I could not understand the menu completely, nothing a lil google search can’t sort out! Thank you guys for satisfying my craving.

At the open air cinema with a Ladro food truck and I have never been so appalled about the quality of the food compared to the price. $20 pizzas with pork sausage, actually come with a gross, cheap, pork mince. $3 side of aioli with our chips, we get one squirt of sauce. $10 for 3 eggplant fritters...the fritters are the size of a 50c piece. Complete rip off and flavourless food.
Christina
YES YES YES service was outstanding and food was delicious. The staff were so attentive and friendly from the moment we sat down. A rarity now days!

Melbourne’s favourite pizza institution, Ladro, is celebrating turning 15 by checking in to Grand Hyatt Melbourne with a short-term residency at the hotel’s signature restaurant, Collins Kitchen.<br/><br/>Taking up residency until Thursday 29 November 2018, “Ladro Checks In” will feature a specially curated Italian menu created together by the Ladro and Collins Kitchen culinary teams.<br/><br/>Along with the classic wood-fire pizza flavours that first put Ladro on the map, guests can also indulge in some authentic and moreish Italian dishes.
Ethical Hedonist
From the moment you walk into the Ladro TAP restaurant you’re greeted with warmth from both the staff and the amazing heating (this is clearly a winter review!). The ambience extends out into the courtyard, which has a closable roof and an open fireplace to create the perfect atmosphere for a conversation over a glass or carafe of one of the delicious wines on offer.<br/><br/>Although it would have been nice to see more cruelty-free menu options, Ladro’s Ethics score rates highly due to their stated effort to reduce waste and plastic usage. They also get a big bonus for actually highlighting on their menu why they don’t use plastic straws.<br/><br/>The service was seamless, with water jugs being constantly refilled and the staff checking up on us with just the right amount of frequency. In terms of the actual food, the pizza base and vegetable toppings were high quality and very tasty, but the overall Taste rating was brought down a little due to the choice of dairy-free cheese. Don’t let that stop you from making a trip down to the restaurant though, as all-in-all the experience was well worthwhile!<br/><br/>See more pictures and ratings of Ladro TAP through the link on my profile.

Excellent food, great staff and lovely setting. The gluten free pizza base was lovely and light, the only disappointing thing was there weren’t many toppings on the pizza. The imported cola drink was delicious and they also had a good gluten free beer. Highly recommend

Went for the Bottomless Pizza deal on Tuesday only to discover it applies to 4 pizzas on the menu (two of which have chili??). I complained to the waiter as the menu and flyer did not note any terms & conditions. I was told I should have checked the website. Is this reasonable when you are a walk in? After I gave my feedback to the waiters, they avoided me. I was not rude but clear patrons should know the ‘deal’ before they order. <br/>All up a very unpleasant dining experience that was not cheap. There are some many good pizza places in Melb, there is no need to go back. <br/>What a shame. If something is wrong customers should be able to say so. We are paying for a service after all.<br/>

Food came out really quickly, as did drinks. Shared bababing, gamberi & margherita pizzas. All thin, real Italian style with quality toppings. If you want super supreme, you're in the wrong place. Badabing was the best, nice flavoured sausage & chewy base. Didn't enjoy fennel on gamberi, as it made it soggy. Great range of beer on tap. Desserts shared were tiramisu, white choc n raspberry cannoli & Nutella bombolini. Tiramisu had good hit of strong coffee, & popping candy was a great addition. Bombolini was a bit dry, as many Nutella items can be. Interesting bathroom with beautiful scented soap.

I had the gnocchi when I visited Ladro Tap, a cosy restaurant tucked down on Greville street away from the noise of Chapel street. The meal itself was delicious, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The outdoor area is a lovely place to dine, and a great spot for watching all the Dogs walk by :P
Two Sheds
Work function here. Limited menu as a result. It has a lovely atmosphere and setting. The cold meat platter was delicious as was the parmesan popcorn. Then out came a selection of wood fired pizzas which had lovely crispy bases and a range of toppings. The Italian doughnut with honey for dessert was a bit stodgy though. The house wines are on tap out of the wall which is interesting. A nice place but nothing particular raises it above the pack.
Alex Philipatos
The food was nice, but expensive for what you get. $9 dollars for a small bowl of fries that were cold was a waste. Toppings were also tight, could hardly see the mushrooms.<br/>Service was friendly though...<br/>

Vibe of the place is good. Pizza's are awesome but the steak was average. It had some 'chips' which were deep fried boiled potatoes was just weird, and not tasty at all. <br/>And also hated the fact that waiter said sparkling water was free then find out each 500ml carafe was $5 each and just came from a tap. That type of overcharging really turns me off!

Ladoo Tap, nice place, spacious with big volumes, went there for a drink, I took a negroni cocktail which I enjoyed, and end up with a delicious pizza, Very nice menu, Italian food, good and authentic, a bit expensive but their prestation worth it.
Split The Bill
Came here for a quick drink to catch up with a few friends on a beautiful sunny day and sat outside.<br/><br/>Enjoyed some great reisling and polenta chips. We sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine as well as the quick service. Will be back to check out the food menu next time.
Dam Burger
The usual Italian pizza with not much topping and not overly tasty. However they had good service and some other shared plate foods. Not that cheap.
Must Be Hungry
Perfect spot for a meal/drink/aperitivo. We had a cracking time here and we highly recommend to come and check it out. Wide selection of beers and wines along to flavoursome food.
Monica Iva
Had a lovely dinner here on a Monday night, byo $5, donated to Sacred Heart Mission. Dinner was great, polenta chips on point. I had the pasta ragu, my friend the steak. My pasta was to die for, rich and meaty with quality house made pasta. Her steak was a definitely a step above a normal house steak, quality beef. <br/>I love the social conciseness of the business and I feel it was reflected in the food. <br/>Staff lovely and attentive.

Stumbled across this little gem on Saturday night on the hunt for wood fire pizza and gnocchi which both were delicious, great service & the ambiance outside (oh... those outdoor heaters 👌🏽) can't wait to return.
Sheikh Zayed
Not sure if Foodora was to blame or Ladro<br/>I got a plain margarita pizza which was low on cheese heavy on sauce - it was delivered all squashed pretty average pizza for $15<br/><br/>We also got a prosciutto pizza - it was covered in onions "prosciutto pizza's are like ONIONS"- Shrek<br/><br/>Won't go again probs.
Kimberley Leggett
Very tasty wood-fired pizzas with a good selection of beers and wines on tap. We had 3 pizzas on gluten free bases- had the badadabing, San Daniele (because hello, prosciutto?😝) and the special that was running that Monday night - which were all good and well-balanced, with just the right amount of wood-fired char for texture and bite. The salumi board we had before was also yum- the standout the baked ricotta (which took it beyond the usual standard fare of four so latte or mozzarella you get elsewhere)! I also like the idea of BYO $5 wine which goes to charity on a Monday night. Service was friendly and attentive, and the inside was fairly atmospheric without being pretentious.
Beck Williams
Had the potato pizza and badabing. Good flavours. Base is a bit dry/crunchy though, which is the most important bit. Best base i have had is at Lazerpig Collingwood. Reminds me of Kesté in NYC (best pizza I have ever had). Italian style fries nice. Service was good.
Jane Roberts
Ordered a San Daniele pizza home delivered. It wasn't good on any level. The dough was overcooked, the ingredients seemed old and extremely salty. We threw it out.
Al Av
Good Pizza, great beer and great location. However, service is below average and it took a while till we have been acknowledged, and after that we felt like they 'doing us a favour' by serving us. Horrible attitude.
Koy Chuncharoen
For an appetiser we had Polenta chips, beer batter oyster and they were lovely, crispy and light. For main we shared mushroom pizza add on anchovy and that was really good The staff were nice and friendly would definitely be back!
Shlomi
We tried Lardo for the first time by home delivery and were pretty happy.<br/>The dough is great, very thin, with snice bubbles on it.<br/>As we don't eat meat on our pizza and like different type of cheese and vegetables, we were happy to see the variety of options in this place.<br/>Toppings were very tasty, but not enough quantity.<br/>The bufala pizza had maybe 5 small mozzarella balls and 4 leaves of basil.<br/>The Taleggio pizza had a lot of tasty rokcet and parmesan but I would like more Taleggio as well.<br/>Overall, great pizza though and will try again.
TheWhiteSherpa
Slow service without any kind of care. Ordered a simple pizza on a Sunday afternoon. It was very thin crust and extremely crunchy. Too crunchy. Similar the cheat pizza you can make on Lebanese bread. It scored 2.5 simply because the location is lovely and it was a beautiful day outside. Sorry guys but you need to lift your game!

Came here for a get together for a group of around 20 people and we were catered for in the separate function area- which was good to give us a bit of privacy and meant we didn't disturb other diners.<br/><br/>We had the set $25 menu option which allowed us to have 18 pizzas and salad sides- and was definitely filling enough for all of us! Was a good opportunity to try different pizzas- including the Margherita, San Daniele, Gamberi and J Lo; but special mentions to Badabing and Scout. Wish the side salads had a bigger variety, they served the same salad to everyone- Rocket, Parmesan, walnuts and honey which wasn't too bad.<br/><br/>The drinks selection though is pretty decent and varied- the fiancé really enjoyed the Hawker and I had a beautiful sweet and refreshing apple and strawberry cider. Ladro TAP is definitely a lot better than other Italian joints I've visited, but for the prices you pay you wished it kind of stepped it up a notch a tad more.

A local gem!! This is  definitely one of the best Italian restaurants in the area - its casual and not overpriced! It always has a bustling atmosphere and the staff are great. The Pizza is traditional Italian pizza - none of that thick based and cheesy pizza you might find at other restaurants.  My personal favourite is the San daniele  as the prosciutto is fresh and you can tell its good quality. Other favourite include the salumi  board (that baked ricotta is amazing) and of course the Gnocci is hard to go past.  A great casual restaurant that continues to deliver :)
World In A Bite
<br/>Food 2: delicious 😋... mmmmm the glazed chicken wings so good! We weren't that happy with Margherita because nothing on it... only 2 basil leaves ... so, I explained to my friend that maybe they're running out of basil and guess what!?? The table next to ours ordered margherita too and had no basil on it 😂 <br/><br/>Atmosphere & decors 1: good as a chillax place<br/><br/>Service 1: lovely but a bit hard to get their attention
MandyToorak
I really like it here. I find the pizza and atmosphere here to be better than its Gertrude St counterpart. I love the appetisers too, service is generally pretty good. Important to book a table if you are going at a busy time as sometimes I have had to sit in a weird place (always forget to book). Thanks guys

Overall, this place has one of the best pizzas in the area. The ambience is awesome and the staff is very friendly. I would say that the quantity of food is not balanced with what you pay and hence, I am rating it a 4.0
Sof
Solid vibes for a relatively big, yet intimate (about 9 people), dinner or event and super helpful both over the phone when organising and also when splitting the bill between us all. In this area a very solid A+. As for the food, general consensus was that some of the pizzas were a little bland, and the serving sizes of the gnocchi were smaller than expected. Personally was very curious to see that the San Daniele did not have a tomato base. Tasty tho
Thais Montenegro
I can now say I've had chesseless pizza! Photos below speak for themselves.... the entire thing tasted dry and burned. If I had thrown mushrooms and onions on top of salada crackers I would have achieved the same result....
The Very Hungry Kiwi
Went here for a friends birthday, pizza was great, service friendly however disappointed by the fact that they charge $5 per head for the birthday cake we had brought along, even though we were a group of 12!
TheBearReview
Is it me being spoilt rotten by all the great pizza and casual Italian places around Melbourne or has this place truely gone down hill some what?<br/>This used to be amazing - great vibe, rockin food. But I came here recently, arriving at 7pm on a Thursday night and it just didn't feel 'right'. It has become more cafe sienna should I say?<br/>The food was still reasonable, service was ok. But ok is just not good enough when there are so much competition around right? I hope this place finds its edge again and soon.<br/>
Steph A
Came here for coffee, the coffee was decent but there are better places to get coffee in the area. Staff are friendly but the set up of the place is a bit confusing where to order how to pay and such.
Emily
Very good food, menu has changed a little, I had my heart set on gnocchi with ragu but the pappardelle was delicious! The starters we had where great, awesome atmosphere and we where all too full to eat dessert! Large drink selection! Would have loved more pasta options!
ToorakM
3.5/5 - changed a little bit since last visit so re-reviewing! <br/><br/>Started with beef jerky - was a bit tough to be honest and I'm a jerky freak as its great after the gym - had a nice flavour though. <br/><br/>Had a mushroom pizza - a bit soggy in the middle but good flavours and had some truffle on there - chips were delicious and the croquettes were yum too. Service was friendly but prams mean you've got to sit outside - heaters were SO HOT! Wine list was good too l!
Sarah O
A girl pal and I visited here on a random whim and were pleasantly surprised.<br/>Not only is the venue dog friendly but their lamb rib dish with a side of insalata was perfect! Lovey service, a return is on the cards
Matthew De Fazio
The meal started off with a Mulled Wine that really let the flavour sing through whilst getting rid of the Alcohol taste that first hits your tounge. For starters I had the Mac and Cheese balls, which were the highlight of the meal and the Polenta chips which were probably a little too thick and could have been fried for a little longer as well, for a main I had the special pizza with Rocket, Truffle Oil, Speck and Bufala Mozzarella which was really well cooked. For dessert it started well with Tiramisu in a jar (as a Tiramisu connoisseur this always annoys me) it had a good amount of mascarpone but I felt the biscuits hadn't been soaked for long enough and it needed a little more chocolate and coffee to overcome the flavour of Mascarpone and Masala. The daily special cannoli was a highlight of the desserts but the cannoli shell needed to be a little bit thicker, one of those rare occasions you want the pastry to be thicker. The main reason for my score was the Panna Cotta, a pistachio Panna Cotta to be exact, had a great wobble but it was grainy, like really grainy, and it tasted like milk. The white chocolate shards that were on the dessert I'm guessing as a textural and sweet element missed the spot on both marks, tempering the chocolate would have done wonders. The rest of the meal was otherwise very enjoyable.
Melanie Burrell
Disappointed with the ridiculously high corkage fee..... $15 seems a bit steep for a pizza place! Otherwise food and service were quite good... The pizzas were great and affordable...
The Epicurean
Greville st location, just off Chapel.<br/>Chill on the couches and forget about the worries in the world.<br/><br/>Special mention: 'BOCCA' macaroni bites with tartufata (truffle sauce) were heavenly delicious.
Chris
Great food, friendly staff and fast service.<br/><br/>The salumi board is delicious and fresh, with a nice assortment of interesting meats. However their pizzas take the cake. Fresh and delicious ingredients. The gluten free bases are also fantastic if you are coeliac.
The Plus Ones
Beer. Four ingredients combine to make magic in a glass. Malt provides the base. Hops add flavour and aroma. Yeast produces alcohol. But water. Who thinks about water? The answer is Daylesford & Hepburn Mineral Springs Co. In quantities measured by the truckload. This bottled water company provided local breweries with their sparkling mineral water and still spring water and then let the brewers’ creativity flow. Thus Hepburn and Hops was born — an evening devoted to beer brewed using Hepburn Springs water and paired with a multi-course meal at Ladro.

I came here a few months ago on a Tuesday for the first time and I have been meaning to write a review ever since. <br/>We were only four people and we have ordered nothing to exciting a meat and cheese board to start with, pizzas and gnocchi's. We waited 30 min for our meat and cheese board and when we asked the waitresses how long it will take she gave us an attitude and told us it will come soon. It came out 10 min later and she explained that they have a function in the back and that's the reason it would have taking so long. <br/>We ordered our pizzas which were nothing exciting and gnocchi's which were over cooked and a big smush in a pan. <br/>Walking to the bathroom I took a climbs at the "function" which was a long table of 10 eight year olds which made me wonder if they can't handle that what are they gonna do during peek hour! The waitress was annoyed with life and had a attitude and when my partner paid she was even more annoyed about not getting any tips. <br/>We won't be coming back any time soon. <br/>

One thing I dislike more than a bad meal...inconsistency. I've been to Ladro a few times and each time I've had inconsistency in either the meal or the customer service but never bad enough to banish it from my list. This last time they really made it easy for me though! After being made to wait over 15mins for a table we'd reserved, really rude service from the staff the entire night and average food I'd advise future diners to maybe try somewhere else...Subway maybe, as I think you'll find custmer service with a smile!
Bel
Food takes a while to come out but it's quite nice. The prices are regular for the expensive area. The popcorn with caramel with black salt needed more coverage but was a tasty combination of sweet and salty the cocktail tasted alcoholic and sweet yet could've used more freshness. The polenta chips were deliciously crisp but the tomato with it was a off putting by tasting like tubed tomato paste. The zucchini salad thing was delicious however. The place was very hipster and the staff a bit abrupt.
Experiencejoysoflife
I came here with my family to celebrate a birthday. This place was absolutely incredible. <br/><br/>We all walked out waddling and joyful on how great the food was. The gnocchi was the highlight of the night, definitely the best I've encountered in Melbourne. <br/><br/>Additionally, we had great, attentive service. The only downside would be the garlic bread, just tasted like oil. Also the flavour was too strong on the Gorgonzola pizza for 3/4 of us. Then again, that is likely just a personal preference. <br/><br/>I will be back!
AlliC
Staff were very patient with our large group and all the complexities that brings. Loved the pizza, especially the mushroom one. Interesting selection of beer.
TheSkinnyFoodie
Mixed reviews about Ladro but I was genuinely pleased with my lunch there today! The waitress serving us was so lovely and extremely accommodating about my dietary requirements. The calamari fritti was tender and the polenta chips were divine! Mum's duck pappardelle was amazing and full of flavour too apparently (she was in a food coma afterwards haha). Great price point considering the generous serving size and quality we were presented with. Perfect for a casual meal with nice heaters and covered outdoor area so you don't need to be stuck eating inside on those rainy Melbourne days like today! Would definitely visit again and try those acclaimed pizzas or the other bountiful gluten free options they have on offer :)
Mistermister
Nice place for pasta and drinks. This place should be famous and do more pastas. It was delicious. The pizzas on the other hand were a bit of a let down. More flavour required- more chilli, salt ... punch! Seriously you must try the duck ragu pappardelle. It was sensational. Service was nice and friendly. The place was a tad cold, so rug up!
Jaytay
Came here last night for a late dinner and had a few people in which was surprising for a Monday night but managed to give off a good atmosphere still. Good range of beers on tap but only one cider that had sold out unfortunately! Asked for waitresses opinion on what pizza to get and 'Nduja' was the result and it was a great recommendation but definitely has a kick. Service was good. Will be back for one of their degustation nights!
Christian Clarke
Pizza shop in Prahran <br/>I've walked past Ladro hundreds of times and I finally walked in last week- food is average, so is the service- small menu but quite well executed. Cool street view but that's all it's got. No vibe whatsoever, I should've just ordered the pizza take away and enjoyed it at home.😕🙁☹️

This place always meets expectations! A great relaxed vibe on a Friday/Saturday night for a drink and dinner with friends. The pizzas are light and crispy, the mains well considered and presented beautifully and the desserts are comforting and indulgent (Nutella donuts being a personal fave!). BYO is always a plus or you could always get a jug of sangria! Excellent food with a reasonable price tag, best to book to guarantee a table though :)
Claui
Had a great night here in the courtyard at the back with lovely service, nice food and reasonable prices. I will come back and would recommend it to others!

First time here, love the fitout, casual, cool & comfy. Staff friendly, however they looked run off their feet and rushing around. Really busy for a warm Tuesday night. <br/><br/>Ordered calamari as a entree, looked really good, but for me had a really strong fish taste, which I have never experienced before... Maybe frozen? Maybe not so fresh? But it wasn't what I've had before & I didn't love it. <br/><br/>Our main was a pizza, the pizzas are a lot smaller than your usual hand made rustic pizzas. The base was really crunchy, not one part was soggy, but for me too burnt. We had the margarita it lacked cheese, maybe some fresh olive oil, more basil. Just wanted a bit more for the price & size. <br/><br/>Both salads on the menu were not pregnancy friendly, we asked for a garden salad, they made up a roquette, parmesan & walnut salad which was perfect. <br/><br/>The blood orange granita was yum, not sure you need a big desert spoon in the glass too, but it was tasty & looked nice. <br/><br/>Go back? Maybe

Haven't been to Ladro's for a while as we used to live closer but we used to be regulars. The atmosphere is cool & buzzing (even in the street), with a very casual feel to it. We have been there heaps with our kids and the staff were always super friendly and accommodating. Our kids love it there as you can see the pizzas being made and there is a big chalk board near the toilet where you can write or draw! But most importantly the pizzas are really delicious, creative, and fresh. There is also a little courtyard, which is nice. Writing about it makes me want to go back! I believe there is a Ladro's in Fitzroy too and I've heard it's really good but we haven't been.
Whats On The Grill?
Love this place for pizzas. One of my favourites. Great atmosphere that isn't too casual but also not overly fancy. Sensational pizzas and a good drinks list.
Matthew Rock
Went with a group and we all really enjoyed our meal. The price was excellent, service was kind and prompt, without haggling you. Although the pizza crusts were a touch burnt they were reasonable sizes and tasty. Would go back again.
Brungiel
Nice place on Greville St for a pizza. The space is nice and the vibe usually quite friendly, especially outdoors. The pizzas here are nice, although the bases are a little off in terms of consistency.

We felt like Italian last night with Ladro Tap fixing all carb craving we were having. Late on a Sunday night the restaurant was still buzzing with a fantastic atmosphere both within the restaurant and out the front on the street. Staff are attentive and friendly. We ordered the watermelon and prosciutto salad, polenta chips and the San Daniele pizza. We were served the wrong pizza by mistake with the staff apologizing and quickly bringing us a new one. We added mushrooms on our pizza, the serve I believe was a little small.

Pizza, pizza, pizza – We LOVE pizza in our house and I have been meaning to take hubby to Ladro Pizza Greville for ages! It’s nice and quiet on a late Saturday afternoon and we can relax in the garden area out the back. A lovely glass of cold rose and some self control are both in order as we peruse the menu.
Clare
Pizza was nice with gluten free base. Service very good with friendly waiters. Only complaint was that the marinara pizza had no seafood whatsoever. Big disappointment but nice experience overall.
Convivialsins
Great location for catchup drinks or simply to laze about... would return to sample some of their mains. I was eyeing off the table opposite they seem to have ordered endless amounts of bread, calamari looking dish and salad? <br/><br/>We ordered palenta fries fused with truffle oil.. which I didn't mind but got w bit too heavy for my liking.

Very average experience after looking forward to dining here. Pizza base was burnt and spoilt an otherwise promising potato pizza. Gnocchi wasn't bad but the portion was very small for the price. In addition, the waitress was VERY rude. The Nutella doughnuts were tasty and was the only positive aspect of the experience. Would not recommend.

While the actual venue isn't bad, we seem to have gotten the short end of the stick, the pizza base was burnt and lacked flavour, the gnocchi we picked out wasn't worth the money we paid and to top it off we were served by an rude waitress who had the nerve to sass paying customers, twilight was a better love story.

Have eaten here and at Gertrude many times and the food is always pretty good. Walked in with a mate, with no booking on a Thursday and were seated straight away on the couches. I love the fact that they do BYO and took the opportunity to bring a nice bottle of Champagne. I'll be honest, I felt the food quality had dropped a bit, but it is still pretty good. Having had some average service here in the past, I felt obliged to comment on how good the service was on this recent visit. A lovely lady with a brown bob, was so welcoming and warm, that we enjoyed everything so much more. Beautiful, intuitive service that is hard to find. Goes to show that staff are the difference.

amazing place for Woodfire pizza. tried the J-lo and porcini. Perfect thickness with a generous amount of topping. Friendly service and would definitely go back .
La Tropezienne
I have been meaning to get to Ladro for a while and it certainly lived up to its reputation.  The pizza was thin crispy with the perfect amount of topping.   We caught up with friends for an impromptu lunch and shared a margherita and scout pizza along with the delicious finger licking Italian fries.  Loved the spices and I’m definitely copying this one for home.   The bomboloni with Nutella and caramel ice-cream for dessert were a treat as was the Tiramisu.   The service however was a little off beat.  When we arrived we didn’t have a reservation and we were 4 adults and a child. There was plenty of room toward the back of the restaurant and we were told that the tables were reserved so had to sit at the bar tables and order at the bar.  This was awkward considering we were all planning to eat lunch and the table for 5 was way too small if we had actually ordered our meals and then attempted to eat there.  Thankfully a few patrons had finished their meals and we were moved to a larger table. The service was a little slow and we had to call the staff over each time we wanted something rather than being asked if we wanted more drinks,<br/>water, coffee, dessert.  <br/><br/>It was disappointing to see that during the two or so hours that we were there, the tables at the back of the restaurant remained empty and although there was a small function, the room was no where near full.  I am not sure why they didn’t fill these tables but it may have been because it was lunch?

Dropped in our way to dinner for a quiet beer or two , good atmosphere and extensive range of local / craft beers , we found the wine list a bit limited. Menu is pretty basic .... Not bad but I think better options in the area.

Great pizza although either the plates have got larger or the pizza size has slightly shrunk they seem smaller. Service needs to pick up given the great service from many other neighbouring establishments. We received wine that was barely cold and had to add ice cubes, service was ad hoc. Later a 70s styled "Sydney" DJ arrived and we are still wondering why he was there. This is no longer Candy Bar and the place was emptying. He earned his money easily barely touching the disks. <br/>Bathrooms - the Ladies I am informed were littered with paper towel. The men's fine but both have terrible diagonal tiling. <br/>To sum up. Great pizza and you will enjoy it.
Hungry
Best pizzas by far. Try the patate or the j-Lo. I am a regular here. It never disappoints. Not too sure about the new bar concept though or the pizzas being served uncut.

Came here on a Friday night and it was pretty busy which is always a good sign! Very friendly wait staff and the pizza was good. Not the best I've had but definitely up there!

This is a delightful gem of a restaurant in the stylish suburb of Prahran. A great place to people watch or sit in the sun whilst enjoying drinks and grazing on delicious food.<br/>The pizzas are full of flavour with just the right amount of toppings to maintain a crispy and authentic base. The breakfast pizza is amazing.<br/>Polenta chips are a favourite as are their croquettes of the day. <br/>Nduja pizza was extremely tasty with a perfectly crisp base and quality toppings full of flavour. <br/>Service is attentive and the restaurant setting is lovely.
Claries
Much like some of the other patrons here, service was disgusting. They seriously have a problem with people. If you don't want us to dine, then why bother being in business?

We had a large group dinner at Ladro. Wait staff were rude and unhelpful throughout the night. Starter of cold meats with no accompaniment was awful. Deep fried bocconcini was cold in the middle however Calamari <br/>was nice. Took an hour before we got our one glass of wine included in the package as the "tap was empty". Another hour before pizzas arrived uncut for the group to share. Had to be sent back for slicing. Gluten free pizzas which we'd pre-ordered arrived after everyone else had eaten. Long after the pizzas were finished the "salad" arrived. Rocket with walnuts and shaved Parmesan. Would have been nice with the pizza! We were rushed out before the agreed finish time as they had double booked the tables. Made us wait ion the street and lied about booking the taxis for us. Big time FAIL. Hated everything about this place.
Leon
I find it fairly difficult to find decent consistent food in the Prahran / South Yarra area, however Ladro's is an exception. Everytime I go here my expectations are met, from food quality perspective to the great service. Ladro's would be one of the best pizza's in Prahran. If you are yet to give it a go I recommend heading down.
CM
Lovely interior but service needs to improve. We were ignored upon entry. In the end we just sat down where we wanted because it was apparent we would not be acknowledged. Then took an additional 10 minutes to even get a menu. It was clear why this place was comparatively empty on a Saturday morning. What a shame as it was lovely inside. Omelette was average

Really disappointed after having eaten at the Ladro on Gertrude street a number of times before. <br/><br/>The vibe was set when we walked in and were ignored. Approaching the bar to ask for a seat he gave us an odd look and mumbled something. Should have turned around walked out at this point. Never a good start. <br/><br/>We ordered two pizzas, one of which was on a gluten free base.<br/><br/>Worst GF base iv ever eaten. It had the consistency of a pikelet and was soggy. Pretty flavourless pizza anyway and far too much sauce.<br/><br/>After plates were cleared we waited for our bill which never arrived.<br/><br/>Went up to the bar to pay, where the guy glared at us. We asked pay whereby he responded with “sure” and continued to stare. What, are we meant to guess the amount we owe? <br/><br/>Handed him over cash whereby he gave us another confused look and said you’re paying by cash? <br/><br/>No change offered...still not even sure what the meal cost. <br/><br/>Won’t be going back. Ever.
Ramen Girl
Pleasantly surprised. Actually pretty damn surprised by the quality and flavor of the pizzas. Nice thin crust they way pizza crust should be. Will definitely be back for more.
Italian Stallion
Ate there last night, love the venue great atmosphere, had a couple entrees thought they were very small servings, pizzas were nice thin and crispy, sauce was tasty, but think the produce could of been slightly better considering the price of the pizza but overall a good night.
Rob
I've been here once for dinner and found the pizza's to be pretty good, but a bit on the pricey side - so there's been really nothing much to draw me back. BUT.... Ive been here several times for brunch - and it's actually really really well worth while checking it out. It's a small menu, but I've been here with a group of people after a gym session on sat/sun morning. The space is big enough to accommodate the 6-8 people I was with; it wasn't too loud so we could all interact and the food was quick and (more importantly) very tasty. The baked eggs have been my favourite so far and the coffee has been consistent and on par. And....even better when you're with a group - they let us split the bill!

Ladro is an Italian pizza place which does its pizzas well. It is also a bar in which they serve a wide variety of Italian drinks. In fact on Mondays they have $5 corkage and the money goes towards Prahran Mission. It is good when restaurants supports charities like these that help those in need. I wish that there was more like it in the city to assist the Salvation Army in times of need.

Great place nice atmosphere

Excellent Pizza and Crumbed bocconcini. I've been a few times and the pizza are always good. Quite surprised to read some negative review. The dough is tasty and the pizza are wood fired which is a real plus. Service is nice. I always take the crumbed bocconcini with the green sauce kind of pesto (addictive) as an entree. Would like to see more desserts on the menu. But I'll be back for sure.

IF YOU FEEL LIKE A HORRIBLE PIZZA YOU HAVE TO GO THERE. I have googled the best pizzeria in melbourne and il ladro pizzeria came up in top 10<br/>went there ordered a pizza <br/>worst pizza ever <br/>wondering how they can be in the top 10 <br/>hu ever wrote a good comment on them must be under drugs
Stuck In Transit
This is a beautiful cafe turned relaxed Italian eatery in the afternoons and evenings. With a converted warehouse feel, the natural light warms up the space and the smell of a wood-oven fire completes the rustic feel. The visible white brick walls together with the black framed windows and exposed lighting all add to the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Described to be a Venetian classic came next our dish of risi e bisi, most commonly known as rissotto. I loved how the pea's vibrant green colours came out and gave the dish a happy feel. Cooked and fully packed with flavour, this dish of rice, peas, pancetta, shallots was a creamy dream.

Ladro: It’s hard to beat the pizzas at Ladro, for me their crust is the perfect balance between crispy and pillowy. Their mushroom pizza is simple, yet delicious, and always top of my list to order.<br/>

Ladro is a wonderful spot for lunch.

On a return visit shortly after the dinner, we ordered the tiramisu. Creamy, multi textured and served in a jar, it ticked all the boxes, even though I’m not usually a tiramisu fan.

My fave little place!. Everyones gotta have a local that never disappoints, i go here all the time so I'm not going to go into much detail but the staff, the ambience and the quality of the food is always on point. I love my little ladro always cheers me up and warms my tummy no matter what mood I'm in, the gnocchi, meatballs and pizzas are to die for

Amazing pizza. Coming back for sure!!

Horrible experience. My partner and I went to Ladro today for a relaxing Sunday afternoon lunch, arriving at 1:45. The wait staff were polite, if a little aloof. I ordered the sweet corn fritters and my partner ordered the Scout (?) pizza and a bowl of the chips. We waited... and waited... And WAITED.... at around 2:35 we were told there was a two and a half minute wait on our food cos the kitchen was so busy. At 2:50 our meals FINALLY arrived, however I was so annoyed to find that smeared all over my meal was tzaziki - NOT listed on the menu and I am allergic to dairy. I told the waitress who told the kitchen, and I was informed they would make me plain ones straight away. By this time I was so over it and couldn't risk waiting another hour for food. So I didn't have a meal. The restaurant gave us the drinks for free and the meals half price but still charged my partner for the meal I didn't eat and technically didn't order. So angry, so disappointed and SO HUNGRY. Never going back and will advise friends to avoid it as well.

Worst ever. Bland food attitude service. I have never written a review but this place was so bad I needed to; Sunday evening, 8pm, table of 6 all very hungry, happy to eat here after positive recomedations about same owners in city. seated straight away, which we were happy about but then waited 15 minutes for our table to be cleared from the last table and then 30 minutes before a waitress came to the table. we finally ordered, enough for 1.5 mains per person, plus sides and wine and a cocktai. 45 minutes later we hadn't even received water and were told the cocktail we wanted wasn't available. maybe we were just hungry but the waitress was extremely rude through the whole dinner, which we would have overlooked if our food was good.... however one of the mains along with 2 sides wasn't ordered. when we raised the issue we were told "oh well it's one of those nights" all 6 of us were very disappointed by this stage....we tried to eat our bland small servings but they were oily, greasy and not clean at all (pizzas with barely any toppings and pasta that was overcooked with no taste) we had to ask the waitress TWICE for parmesan cheese. To make things even worse we were billed for all items including the items we didn't get and another tables. from somebody that eats out every evening of the week and lived in Melbourne 7 years I can honestly say this is the worst dining experience I have ever had & I the 6 people I was with would agree.

BRILLIANT. We loved everything about Ladro. <br/>Excellent service, the staff were friendly and efficient, excellent food and wine. Very child friendly. Great atmosphere. <br/>There's a bee hive on the roof where they make their own honey. <br/>They have an organic compost. <br/>Monday nights, all corkage goes to Prahran mission. <br/>We will continue to go there, often.

Yum. A late dinner on Saturday night resulted in four new fans for this restaurant. We sat outside due to 2 extras that were just passing through for a drink, and the outdoor heaters were enough to keep us happy. The Bellini's were fantastic, although the Bloody Mary was not up to scratch - little flavour and huge peppercorns floating around. The vino bianco was also completely devoid of any personality. However, the pasta, risotto and pizza were superb! Amazing flavours that left us all wanting more! The service was ordinary, albeit easy on the eye (according to my friend). Would I go back? Absolutely.

Great pizza. Had my first experience here a couple of months ago and wasn't disappointed. My friend and I had a late lunch and the service was friendly and attentive. The wine selection was decent, and the pizzas amazing (mushroom and a prosciutto one from memory). Pretty reasonably priced with pizzas around $25, although I'm always happy to pay these prices for a great dining experience in a place with pretty decor. Would definitely come here again.

Cool venue, delicious food, reasonably priced. Really recommend this place.

Ladro Greville easily the best eatery in Greville st. Adore this place - always warmly welcomed, always get great value for money. Their pizzas are so damn good. We've now been for the new breakfast on Saturday and it's just as good - that salmon & beetroot on toast is unforgettable. Their house wine is amazing value. A much loved local.<br/><br/><br/>-----12 May, 2014-----<br/><br/>Love Ladro. Over the years we've come to Ladro every few months. Their food has always been so good (and reasonably priced) and their house wines are ridiculously good value. Only once have I been a bit disappointed (around a year ago, I thought the arincini was dry and the dessert doughnut too). We love their pizza but last weekend we went for their new weekend breakfast - goodness me, the beetroot stained salmon gravalx with some horseradish cream is a dish that will have me back every weekend. The toast was so perfect. Really good juice and my mate loved the coffee.
Mariana
Poor Service. Waited for an hour to before the service staff approached me to tell me that the kitchen is not able to cook my gnocchi. The wait staff were not very apologetic. When the bill came at the end of the night they over charged us.
Cat
Great pizzas, lovely staff and had the most amazing roast there. Pasta is nice as well
SazRaz
Meh. Saturday night, typical us, no plans so had to wing it with no reservation. Given that the place is always packed when we pass, I was surprised when we didnt have to wait for a table, in fact, there were quite a few free tables. We sat in the lovely outdoor area and ordered pizzas and a cocktail jug to share.<br/><br/>I was really disapointed when the drinks arrived, our glasses were packed with ice and so was the cocktail jug. It just felt like such a rip off...gggrrr such a big gripe of mine!<br/><br/>The pizzas were v tasty but only had 3 toppings (less is more?). Nevertheless, enjoyable meal and atmosphere, but wont be returning or recommending
Elias
Living nearby and being a coffee junkie I've tried most places in the area. When everything was packed one sunny day I thought I'd give it a go because it's always packed Fri & Sat nights. <br/><br/>This was the only place not packed (6 tables to serve & 3 waiters from what I can see) at lunchtime & should have provided a bit of insight. <br/><br/>After waiting a good 10 minutes I went in to order coffee.... 2 lattes & a cappuccino. Cappichino had no chocolate topping & all three were sub par. Waiter dropped the spoon and didn't bother to replace it. <br/><br/>I can't comment on the food but this is certainly not a place to pop in for a coffee.

Really bad now. Third visit... both times before it was great<br/><br/>today.. lousy..<br/><br/>way too expensive, we had a roast pork roll which was a rotisserie special, no meat in it!!<br/><br/>i had a pasta meal that cost me 421 and was served in a less than entree pottery base of small potplant..<br/><br/>that was a main.. less than 15 pieces of gnocci<br/><br/>i was so hungry after i left i went home and heated up food from the fridge<br/><br/>WILL NEVER RETURN!!!!!!

Really bad service.<br/><br/><br/>-----23 Dec, 2013-----<br/><br/>Carp service!?<br/><br/><br/>-----23 Dec, 2013-----<br/><br/>Arrived for dinner. Was squeezed into a corner high-rise table. Tried to get the attention of staff to move to an area with more space, but the staff were too busy to even listen and I was told "we are fully booked". We moved to another section of the hight-rise table in the end. We are two people, but managed to book a table for four before any of the food was served (took ages!) using the online app!!! Bad service!! Staff too busy..

Perfecto. Wonderful people run this place, such great service. Gluten free pizza is pretty amazing - nothing is too much trouble for the team - love it!

Down a big, big hill. Unfortunately, this place has gone down hill since my last visit.<br/><br/>Was very much looking forward to it, now i am living in Melbourne, owner must have changed hands since my last visit because the pizza has downsized and downgraded in flavour.<br/><br/>Just moved into the area so was extremely excited to get my Friday night pizza form here, however, i don't think that will be happening.
Foodhunterxxx
Had the panino, $12 for a full baguette or $7 for half. Taste was bland, meat are limited, bun are crap. Just a ripped off.

Really bad!! Fish was horr.... Really bad!! <br/>Fish was horrible, pizza was burnt ad the calamari was from<br/>A frozen packet! <br/>Never again

Disappointing. Went here for a friend's birthday dinner and was really disappointed. Crab tortellini was desperately under seasoned, with a few questionably overripe cherry tomatoes and swimming in water. Where was the sauce? Portion sizes were too small for the price. One friend sent back her salad which was served in the tiniest bowl I've ever seen - very cheeky for the price. Service was slow and indifferent. Left hungry.

Really love Ladro. the Badabing remains my favourite pizza ever. the wine list is fantastic, the house wine is always delicious and so reasonably priced. best olives.

Fantastic service, great food, warm and cosy setting. Would definitely eat here again

I don't know what all the fuss is about this place. Service was great food not so great. Pizza was okay, had the San daniella which was a bit dry. My husband had the gnocchi which was terrible. He said its the worst gnocchi he has ever had and ate just a few spoonfuls. It was swimming in sauce which tasted just like supermarket bought bottled sauce. Actually I have just realised that maybe service wasn't that great as they never even questioned us leaving a practically untouched meal. It was so busy but goodness knows why, definitely not for the food. Wouldn't return.
Nathan Gurarie
Great pizza. Not up to the standard of melbourne's best like DOC , +39 or la Casalinga but still excellent. Tons of onions in the San Daniele - why ? But otherwise v good. Worth a try
Honeypopple
Consistently good pizza and service. My go to's are the J-lo, patate and porcini. Delicious spit roast sandwich too!

For Pizza Lovers/Family Friendly. Ladro is a favourite of mine. Delicious pizzas and pasta...in particular the baked gnocchi. <br/>Great place to take the kids for a quick meal!

Great Pizza. Cool place with nice staff and tasty food.<br/>The BYO charity donation is a great idea!!!<br/>Recommended.

Saturday's Pork Spit - Best in Melbourne. Our pop up shop is down the road and hands down this is the best hot sandwich in Melbourne! Plus their restaurant is toasty warm.
Cameron Joss
Best Pork Spit Sandwich in Melbourne. Guaranteed, and i love my food. Crusty bread, hot pork spit roll. I am drooling on my desk thinking about it.

10x10x10 out of 10! Went to first 10x10 dinner which featured truffles as its honoured guest - and honoured they were . 10 creative yet simple dishes ( including 2 desserts) which allowed the hero to shine! Well done Ladro and the Truffle Hound and , no, there is no such thing as too much truffle.

Girlfriend and I went for dinner last night. Waitress quite abrupt, I got there early so ordered the pear crumble cocktail- interesting flavours?! When friend arrived she ordered the same, only to have it come out looking different from mine and also fuller- the waitress laughed and said oh was made by a different bar tender- where's the consistency?<br/>So was going to have the steak.. Wish I had.. Ended up having the JLo. Big mistake.. Just Napoli- minus seasoning, long slices of speck (the only tasty thing on the pizza), 3 leaves of basil and 5 bits (small) of mozzeralla... Had to add my own salt but the sweet/savoury part of the Napoli wasn't balanced! <br/>Friend had pizza too with no sauce and anchovies but only got 1 on the pizza... She didn't finish!!<br/>Very disappointed. Won't be going back- ever!
Went With Me Missus
Melbournes high-end pizza. Went with me missus. Decor was warm and welcoming, made you want to come in on a chilly winter night. Also eye-catching was the pizza menu which was fashionably scribbled on the restaurant wall.<br/><br/>We ordered the daily special pizza and daily special pasta + red wine to match. Pizza tasted simple yet authentically italian, with the dough cooked to a perfect equilibrium between soft & crunchy. Pasta was ok but portion was disappointing - it would not pass as a main dish. The Italian doughnuts which we had for dessert didn't really appeal to me but me missus enjoyed them.<br/><br/>Service wasn't exceptional - the waiting staff were running around busily but seemed a bit inefficient in managing a big crowd. Also we ordered tap water but they brought us mineral water by accident.<br/><br/>Overall a nice place to be on a winter night, if you're craving some authentic Italian pizza.
Champagne_supernova
Good Pizza. Average Service.. The service here is very average - wait staff have a bit of an attitude and could be more attentive. That said the Scout's Pizza is amazing! I've been back a number of times specifically for that.
Dani_2D
The hot spit rolls. Amazing! probably the best sandwich in Melbourne. With there was a hot spit everyday!
Catherine
Poor service. Went to ladro tonight and i was looking forward to a great dinner.<br/>Unfortunately what we got was an extremely rude waiter. We each ordered a glass of wine and once received we all noticed that none of them were any where near the standard glass size, they were anywhere from a third to half less than that.<br/>When we asked the waiter why he insisted they were the standard size and told us we were clearly just unable to gauge that for ourselves in the 'fancy' glasses. I proceeded to watch many a glass go to different tables and they were double the size of our 'standard' glass.<br/>From then on we were treated like an inconvenience.<br/>The pizzas were ok, but nothing special for the prices. The pizza cutter was also incredibly dull, making it difficult to use.<br/>You're better off going to mien lieb, where the selection is fantastic.<br/>All in all I will be steering clear of ladro from now on.

I celebrated my birthday herr yesterday, food wss great, the service was pretty good. Can recommend san danielles pizza, the italian donuts and the gluten free beer

Very ordinary. Just went after living in the area for a while - my boyfriend ordered the crab tortellini and it came out with 9 measly pieces of overcooked pasta. Pizza was decent size but nothing to write home about and completely overpriced. Very disappointing.
Lovesfood
Chewy chewy pizza. Had dinner there last night.Pizza bases were very chewy as if not kneeded enough and the prosciutto pizza was extremely salty.<br/>Service was cold and stroppy and they were not even busy.<br/>No value for money at all considering the quality we experienced last night.
Foodie
Good pizza, definitely large enough to share. Enjoyed eating at Ladro's last night before seeing a movie at the Astor. Don't trust them though when they say the pizzas are only big enough for one. My husband and I shared a pizza with a side serve of olives and bread, and we found that big enough for two. Especially when there are choc-tops awaiting you at the movies!!
Arlie
Best pizzas in Melbourne??. We visited this restaurant because The Age Good Food Guide suggests it offers the best pizzas in Melbourne. So, it was with high expectations that we dined. Look, the restaurant is fine enough but these, in our opinion, are not the best pizzas in Melbourne. They were fine but nothing to write home about and certainly not the best in Melbourne. I think that is over-stating it to the extreme.
Andy G
Top Pizza. Best pizza I've ever had! It was a J-Lo and I could eat it breakfast lunch and dinner. Not entirely sure what some people are on about with reference to service, seriously it is a pizza place, what do they want bow tie staff. For me service was really good and we had a very cute waitress who laughed at my friends very bad jokes. Salty caramel panna cotta is also highly rec'd. Top beer selection too. Staff very helpful when making a booking as I changed it a couple of times and they were very accomodating. Also worth looking in the toilets which are really cool. Would make a trip across town every week if I could just to eat that pizza.
Kath
Pleasant. First time to Ladro tonight, I must admit, I had my guard up after reading the reviews on the service. As someone that dines out frequently, I'm pretty fussy with table service. To be perfectly honest though, it was without fault. They were all attentive, friendly and totally non-pretentious (hopefully they read urban spoon and took note)<br/>The food was good too, although I have to agree with other reviewers, there aint a lotta topping on those pizzas. We were provided with a very blunt pizza cutter to slice our pizza ourselves. As unexperienced pizza cutters, we didn't do too well which highlighted the lack of topping, with some pieces left with little or no topping whatsoever, due to us hacking so hard to cut through the base.<br/>As far as flavour, I'd say it was pretty damn good. So was the vibe.<br/>Prices were a little steep (esp $15 for corkage) <br/>In all, definitely a good experience.<br/>But if you want the same sort of thing for half the price, go to Banff on Fitzroy street St. Kilda
Rebecca R
Pea and Pancetta Risotto and the Rocket, Honey and Walnut Salad were by far the best dishes, The calamari was good as was the tiramisu. Service was great, nice people and very attentive. Set out was lovely and the music/lighting all contributed to the great vibe of the place. Definitely will go back.

Underwhelming.. I found Ladro Greville completely underwhelming.<br/><br/>We had a booking and were seated and then left - not even given menus or water. Had to flag down waitstaff to get them. We then had to flag them down again to order, and also waited nearly 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. There were two large-ish tables to one side of us, and a few smaller tables on the other side, and waitstaff seemed more concerned with keeping those tables serviced. <br/><br/>At $10 a glass the wine was insipid - neither the white or rose tasted like anything. We had the salted cod croquettes first and they were also bland. I had the pizza 4 otto and the speck on it was nearly entirely fat - I ended up scraping most of it off. Partner's badabing pizza was much nicer. Went to the toilets and one didn't lock and the other was without paper. Couldn't be bothered staying around for dessert so paid and left. Around $35 a head. <br/><br/>I suppose many restaurants rely on reputation alone, but being seated and left without menus is a pretty basic service error.
Mehealey
Great service, amazing food & very child friendly. I was very happy when they supplied a colouring menu for my son. A lot of people are saying that it is over priced but I thought it was very reasonable.
Nix
Over priced and overrated. We went out out as a group last night and had a set menu. $40 per head, for which we received 3.5 slices of pizza per person which had hardly any topping, one arancini ball which was delicious, a mouthful of calamari, and a bit of rocket salad with shaved Parmesan and a slice of prosciutto with bread and some olives. There were about 20 of is and we all left hungry and got food elsewhere. The food was ok to taste but not great. Their peroni beer on the other hand was good and the waitress was nice and friendly.
Andrea Verberne
Surprised by comments about poor service. Went two nights ago for the first time and found the service friendly and helpful in guiding us through the menu. I guess there could be bad apples. Anyway, had gluten free Margherita and it was sublime. The tomato sugo packed a punch, softened by creamy fior di latte and basil. The base was perfect, no sacrifice felt for it being gluten free. Absolutely loved my meal, and the wonderful temperanillo I had with it.
The Hungry Croat
What's with the attitude?. Called last week to make a booking and was told they were no longer taking bookings because they had a number of no-shows that night. Aaaaah, and how the hell does that affect me? Do you want my business or not? Will be taking my pizza cravings elsewhere from now on, thank you....

Liking Ladro A LOT!. I rate Ladro high on the pizza scale. For my money the best in town and I think the service is great. I have found I've waited upto 25 minutes for a pizza but there were people wall to wall and it was bustling last time I was there on a Friday night having great time catching up with friends. Our waiter warned us that pizzas would take longer than usual and we appreciated their honesty and ordered some bread and olives in the mean-time. Both were amazing and we're told house marinated. Excellent beer list and a small but cool cocktail list. I would rec the Espresso Martini and West Winds G+T. We drank house wine which was excellent value for money. The pizzas were fab as usual and we find it hard to go past the Putanesca and Boscaiolo. Spinach and Winter Leaves sauteed was excellent. Panna Cotta to die for and Tiramisu came out in a very cool jar and was also very good. I would say very good value for money because you can taste the superior ingredients. I don't know why some people can say pizza here is expensive - where else can you get a pizza with REAL buffalo mozzarella in Prahran? Yay Ladro.

Went here for dinner last night for my birthday with 20 people. After telling them I was highly allergic to nuts they bought out salami with pistachio in it & didn't tell me! Entrees were lovely but pizza took a long time!!!! When it came out it looked like it had been rushed! Service needed to be worked on! Sorry but won't be coming back here anytime fast.
Alastair
Reasonable pizza, but expensive compared to the city's best (Portone, i Carusi etc). Service is abrupt, which makes the prices seem offensive. Perhaps if it was quieter the staff wouldn't be so miserable. No need to return when the competition is more authentically Italian and good value; food comes first!

Mmmm. The only thing that must be said in this review is that the 29% of people, who at the time of writing this review, have voted that they do not like this establishment, are complete and utter idiots. <br/>The pizzas here are in the top three in melbourne, with the pea and leek variety the best I've ever experienced. the pasta is always creative and delicious, the appetisers always provide a perfect start to the evening and the beverage offerings are always unique. <br/>while the deserts are usually pretty average, go get yourself a mcflurry down the road at the end of the night and you've got yourself one of the great food experiences anyone could ever desire.

Good food/ingredients - let down by poor service. It's a shame the wait staff let down the kitchen with their service. This needs to be addressed.<br/><br/>Meals were well prepared and the ingredients authentic Italian...would come back again for a good feed.

Don't judge by it's appearance. Very plain decor , a bit thinny and concrete, and the pizza's looked plain and ordinary but wow the flavor was so wowsome. The margherita was closest to those I had in Italy then any others i have had in Melbourne.<br/>Truly enjoyed it so much felt like skipping drinks with the girls and staying for another.

Just ok. Its just ok, nice bases, nice toppings but nothing outa this world. One awesome thing, the aperol spritz! Devine, probably the only reason to return for me
BIG AL
Pathetic, Arrogant, Low Value. How could a pizza joint refuse me an additional topping? I ordered the badabing and asked for salami to be added to which to my astonishment they refused as "we don't put two meats together on our pizzas". Enough said, I walked out, never again! <br/><br/>We then went to the Lucky Coq up the road for great pizza (with extras) salad and drinks which was comparatively superb value.

Lousy service-poor value. I am sorry I ever went to Ladro, what a poor dining experience. Staff that does not know how to manage drop by customers and tables, yet let kids run around and around. But the worse was the table Nazi front of house (manager??, Dark thick glasses, slight beard), who was outright rude.<br/><br/>Food was very limited in choice, and the pricing listed here was wrong. Pizzas were mostly $22 and up for basic fare, and there were not very many choices that were in the least bit healthy. Choices other than pizza came in the $35 to $45 range. Our calamari was not very good at all, the pizza was ok, but way overpriced for what it was. Very narrow menu choices, with healthy not being important to this place.<br/><br/>You would be better of ordering take away Pizza Hut or Dominoes over this pretentious mob. Well maybe crust, anyway.<br/><br/>Will never be back, and won't bother with Fitzroy either. The sooner it closes, the better off Melbourne will be.
Hetdav
Disappointing experience. Poor service with bad attitude. Food less than ordinary and way overpriced. Pizzas very basic thin crust with lackluster toppings

Great random pick for dinner. My friend suggested ladro for yummy pizza and blood orange granita and it did not disappoint! i had the mushroom pizza (boscaiola) which was so friggin good i recommended it to the guy sitting on the table next to us :) also yummy desserts - we shared the panna cotta (which was quite small and i don't think completely set) and rich cocoa-y ice cream. trendy place, toilet decor is trippy and they have beautiful soap and hand cream from aesop :) i will definitely be passing on the recommendation!
Foodie82
Funky atmosphere & decor but the appeal ends there. $20-$30 for a piece of pita bread with sparse toppings? You've got to be joking. Other dishes no better. Service friendly but painfully slow. Will not be back.

Busy and happening joint. Relaxed cafe vibe with a mix of families, teens, groups of friends and couples. They do a great pizza. Very thin base and they taste great. Good size and many options. We had the scout pizza that was great and the patate pizza that was a bit different but still really nice. Calamari was a very small serve but passed the taste test. Wouldn't hesitate in going back at all.

Outstanding Pizza. This has to be the best pizza for miles. The base is thin, texture and taste perfect. Highly recommend the basciola (mushroom). Always ordered with my family again and again. Staff always accommodating, can be busy, certainly worth any wait. Most other pizzas pale by comparison. Rest of menu well above par, Mains and deserts delicious. So it's not so cheap, but very satisfying!

Good but a little expensive. Ladro is a great, chilled out place to grab a couple of pizzas and have a drink with some friends. The gluten free pizza bases are possibly the best I've tried... they were ever so slightly soggy in the middle, but definitely delicious.<br/><br/>Ladro is a bit expensive (especially when compared to the close by Lucky Coq), so if you're really hungry I'd maybe head elsewhere, but if you just want to share a pizza and relax in the dining area out the front it's a winner.

Tried it twice Over priced pitta bread so loud you can't hear yourself think<br/><br/><br/>-----08 Jan, 2012-----<br/><br/>Typical over priced Aussie restaurant Pizzas ok, pasta was forgettable in fact embarrassing It's so loud you cant hear a thing & top it off waitress with bad breath Not happy!

My Favorite Pizza :). I cannot go past the Margherita at this place. I lived south of Rome for 10 years and this version is very much like the ones I used to eat in Italy. Thin crisp and beautiful sugo and very good bufala mozzarella. My husband likes the Boscaiola which is also very nice. The sides are always tasty and I love their risotto. Pannacotta was made using their bees honey and the last I was there the waiter said they keep bees on the roof. Service is always great even when it is very busy. I try going for lunch as it is quieter. <br/>It is the best pizza in Melbourne I think.<br/>The Espresso Martini comes in a very cute glass and does the trick!
RexP74
What rubbish!. Over priced for very sparsely populated pizzas and the service was even worse. the restaurant wasn't particularly busy (no more than 30 people in there) and it took them more than 10 minutes to get two drinks from the fridge. our party ordered 6 pizzas, 3 came out after 15 minutes and then the next 3 came out 20 minutes after the first round. only go if you have no choice and are not hungry. i won't be back.

Oh my god! What a little Gem!!! Monday night and packed!! Having a prawn with spinach basil and slight chilli & lemon pizza. Amazing !! A little bit of a wait, but given the people here and the end result, not a problem!! Staff are friendly and provide great service. Great little find!!
JOBTHECRIIC
What the?. I don't know what people were expecting Ladro to be like, but I found it sold itself exactly for what it is. Sure it's not a ye'old fashioned pizzeria but it doesn't pretend to be. <br/><br/>Toppings are a little sparse but only a little, the sugo was a bit sweet for my liking but honestly? It's decent, I found the service friendly and as attentive as they could be with the place that heavily packed. The pea, leek and gorgonzola pizza was nicely balanced and the crust is up there with the best I've had in Melbourne, It's a very prahran/south yarra venue with a very prahran/souh yarra vibe so me and my friend had a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Nikx
No big deal. We went as a group of 12. Nothing was REALLY bad, but it's just not a place I would recommend with enthusiasm. The wine prices were a bit over the top considering they were their owns labels and the pizzas didn't have enough toppings, especially for the price. The crumbed calamari was not actually crumbed, the crumbs were just sprinkled on top. Just minor complaints, but I was expecting a little bit more.

Awesome. I went to lunch at Ladro today and was told by our waitress that a new express lunch menu was on. I honestly wanted everything on the menu, but my co-diners held me back. We ordered the beef piadina with horseradish cream which was awesome, a beetroot salad, a bedabing pizza and some house speciality sausages. All was very tasty and great value. Great amber beer on tap too. Will definitely be back next Friday. My new favorite lunch haunt. Service smart as usual too.
The Waitress
I have dined at ladro Prahran several times and am quite shocked at people's comments on urban spoon... I love it. Sometimes it's quite busy, and there is a wait on pizzas; but seriously people can you just think about it? How many pizzas can you fit in that wood fire oven? My waiter suggested for our table to share everything and have everything staggered out and it made for a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience! Out favorites were the crumbed eggplant, melenzane pizza, pizza 4 Otto, and linguine bolognaise. Absolutely delicious! Can be very loud at times, but that could be a sign that everyone is enjoying the food and company. Thumbs up for me! Keep it up Ladro Prahran

This is fantastic, food is always great! Those who have given this place poor ratings go back to Pizza Hut and keep the seats here free for those with taste!

Ladro Prahran. Appalling. Takes one word. Worst pizza EVER. Appalling service, worst EVER. Appalling cost, worst EVER.

Insufficient toppings in my Margarita pizza. Felt like I was eating bread with sauce. Dough was nice and soft just needed more cheese.

Christine. I went there last year.. with friends from work.. i found the food good we all 3 ordered pizzas and shared it amongst us.
Claredb
The food was below average. The pizza base was reslly salty. Staff seemed to be distracted. I could make better pizza @ home.
Troy Sartori
Was looking forward to this as Ladro has been given a lot of air on TV and the press. Sadly not a night (last Friday) I want to repeat. They were frantic and delays of nearly an hour for two pizzas in a place supposedly geared for the volume. Staff were pleasant but our observations were of organised mayhem. Lift your game at these prices Ladro as patrons like us vote with our feet and are happy to let others know. Shame.
Miriamv
Went to Ladro with a group of 8. The service was slow as reported by others and a little "stand-offish". The starters were very small for the price and prosciutto was cut far too thickly to be served alone. The pizza took quite a while to arrive considering we staggered to order. The food was quite good but not exceptional. The base was crisp, the tomato passata had a good flavour and there was enough of it, the toppings were fresh & tasty but I wanted more "fresh" varieties as the options were fairly meat heavy. I like the concept of cutting the pizza yourself ( the waitress provided us with the pizza cutter) which worked well for a large group. Pannacotta for dessert was well executed as was the espresso. The wine list too had plenty of Italian varieties but a tad overpriced. Overall a pleasing night but nothing to get too excited about. We will be back for a second go.

Surprised. Who knew ladro had a 2nd restaurant in Greville St Prahran? Obviously I have had my head in the sand, so it was a real surprise to stumble upon with friends recently. Must have been lucky as we got a table straight away. Drank wines by the glass and beer on tap with our pizza. Forgot how great ladro pizza is (used to live in Fitzroy and be a regular in Gertrude St). The Putanesca and legendary Badabing were my picks. A friend had the hand cut pasta/ bean dish and loved it. Shared bomboloni....very good! Service was really great. Now I know they're there, will definitely be back.

Bad every time. In my opionion, "pizza" implies a casual atmosphere. Where there is "pizza" there is no place for bad service. <br/>Ladro Greville has, again, provided me with the worst service in Prahran. Staff with snappy attitude, a long wait for food and drinks, no attention to customers and a frantic, arrogant mood amongst the lot of them. One waiter pointed his finger at me and said "yes just wait" when I asked if I could order drinks. Absolutely shocking - and the food isn't good enough to warrant this. Definately not recommended.<br/><br/><br/>-----22 Feb, 2011-----<br/><br/>Over rated. I have had many a good meal at Ladro Fitzroy, however the Prahran counterpart is extremely poor. <br/>I have eaten there on 3 occasions now and each time I left without satisfaction. Service was arrogant, bossy and out of touch. I felt like an inconvenience. Was told once that after a meal that "it's too bad you can't have desert" because of what time it was. Bad form. <br/>I honestly can't see what the fuss is about. They should have stuck to one venue and not opened a second. 2/10

Really average pizzas. Over priced drinks. Service was cheerful but too many mistakes. Looks good but looks are not everything. Wont be back.

Not too bad!. After reading a few negative reviews we decided to go anyway. We were actually quite surprised! Our host was very attentive and friendly (even though it was a busy Friday night) and the pizza was delicious! Although, these are the kinds of pizza you could easily make at home yourself...it you can make the pizza dough just as delicious!<br/>Give them a go.

Disgrace.. We waited an hour and a half to be seated at table we'd booked a week in advance. We weren't offered a seat at the bar, a drink while we waited or any sympathy from a single member of staff. I didn't want a freebie, just an acknowledgement that being seated an hour and a half after your reservation time is sub-par. Yet nothing came. Give it a miss and head to Fratellino instead.

Great food, not the greatest service. We had high expectations of Ladro Prahran as we are locals of Gertrude Street. The service at the original location has aways been great, perhaps because the owners are very hands on there.<br/><br/>The waiter at the Prahran location did not record our entrees and presented our mains without entrees. We were surprised and disappointed. He quickly said he did not recall us ordering these and then disappeared. He did not ask for our main wine choice or if we wanted the entree order still. He then did not service our able for the entire night until ordering sweets. We had to order wine at the bar. His denial caused it to be an uncomfortable night. If he had apologised and ben attentive, we would have relaxed into the night. He did offer a free $3 coffee to apologies right at the end of our meal. Too little too late, good service should not rely on free offers. <br/><br/>I like the Ladro brand but I will not be returning to Prahran.
Hans
Looks great. I heard that Ladro was the place for pizza and i was surprised that they do so much more than that!! I shared a selection of dishes with my wife and was very impressed with the food. <br/>The atmosphere was great also, they have really done well with the renovations from the old Candy bar days.
Cookiemonster
Pushy waitress spoilt the evening. I was not impressed with Ladro at all. I walked in to meet some friends and the resturant was alive and buzzing - but the table layout instantly hit me as a bit school cafeteria like. I dont know, you may disagree but it was the first thing that sprung to my mind. The food was average, I had the rissotto and it was undercooked and too cheesy which was quite sickly. The waitress also made the experience a little irritating as she kept pushing sales. She was pushing us to the verge of uncomfortable selling salads, wines, digestive drinks and deserts. It would of been a slightly more enjoyable experience if she'd of kept it friendly and simple but she really did push it too far. <br/>Honestly, I couldn't wait to get out of the place. It wasn't relaxing and enjoyable, the food was average, the service was irritating and over the top and I just didn't feel comfortable. <br/>Definatley won't be visiting again. Too many good places in Melbourne to waste your time in bad places. If you want a good italian, forget Ladros, just head to Lygon! Simples!

Ordinary food, officious staff and customers appear to be unwelcome inconviences to the 'cool' location

75% at least. I was surprised when I found Ladro on here with such a low rating!<br/><br/>I was actually on the phone app- on the way to eat there and couldn't help but feel negative. <br/><br/>But let me tell you, the service was refreshingly up-to-date and non obtrusive. The pizza was original, created from scratch and despite the minimal topping received a crowd pleasing response! Ladro should be nothing less than 75%

$3 for parm. We shared a margarita - which was pretty good. Then for main pasta & risotto - also above average. We asked for extra Parmesan, at a cost of $3... I've never heard of this before. I don't think we will be back and we live about 100m away.

The pizza can't save this place. On arrival the head waiter was super friendly and attentive. The waitress however who looked after us wasn't so great. for entree i ordered stracciatella chicken soup which is a chicken broth with string like egg cast through it. I've had it before elswhere but what arrived at my table was a mutant cousin version. It was seriously like a broth with huge blobs of scrambled egg plopped on top. It was so eggy and just revolting. I had to send it back and decided to just wait for the pizza. The pizza was amazing. My friend had barramundi which was way too fishy so I question the freshness. The bill arrived and the soup was on there despite having had one mouthful and sending it back. Of which by the way when doing so the waitress defensively spat out that "that's how we cook it here!" Overall it was too pricey and the only good thing was the pizza. I wouldn't go back there.
Jdalts
O yum!. Walked in spur of the moment with no booking, but staff more than happy to accommodate us. One waitress was quite aloof to be honest, but not rude, and the waiter was just lovely. The pizzas were divine - thin crust, with a 'less is more' approach to toppings using good quality produce - my perfect pizza :)

Lovely Ladro. I like this place. Haven't been to the other one and while i though the pizza's might be a bit more exotic and a there would be a bit mroe range, they tasted fantastic!<br/><br/>Really great service and really nice wine.<br/>Looking forward to tryign the original Ladro!

Finally on the south side. There really aren't that many quality options around Prahran for someone who enjoys great food and wine. Thank goodness Ladro opened in Greville St! <br/><br/>I went there twice last week, once for a quick lunch of 'brodo' which was so simply amazing - apparently only chicken broth, egg and parmasen - served with crusty bread. Then back on the weekend for pizza with friends. We had about 6 pizzas with a few starters and some salads. I thought all were really fantastic, especially the Sud. Simply donned with sugo, oil, garlic, herbs and capers it was utterly tasty and perfectly cooked. The waiter suggested we staggered our pizzas so they didn't all come out at once which was odd but it meant we ate them all hot. Desserts were similar to Fitzroy but with the addition of a 'camino' - ice-cream with coffee and montenegro...ahhh, heaven.....<br/><br/>Noticed a few dicey reviews....not sure why but hey it means it's easier for me to get in. Love it!
Diego
Not a good experience. Been twice. The first time I left because I was very rudely told by staff not to smoke on the street before even ordering anything (OK, we all have habits -- but, Ladro, this is Prahran, not the Fitzroy ornamental purity brigade) and when I complained was dealt with summarily. The second time, I got the pizza and, seriously, pizza minimalism has limits -- 6 prawns and a handful of peas?! Have to say also, despite what the media reviewers say, my thin crust actually was so thin it was crunchy.<br/>All round, pretty ordinary, rude and not good value.
Gretabowyer
Ugly, ugly sister. So, the foods good. Expect all the favourites from Gertrude st, and a few more. But, when you factor in the 45 min wait ( for the table you booked a week ago), the another 30min to actually be served, the deliciousness of the food becomes irrelevant. Waiters- you are paid to be friendly, helpful, and above all GET THE FOOD. Please don't answer me when i ask what the house white is with ' well, we don't do house whites, but we've got a house bianco vino'. Yeah, um, that's Italian for white wine. Don't be a smart arse and just get me my drink. The saddest part about this new look ladro is, it's sister in Gertrude st is kind, warm, welcoming and the service is great. Don't even bother to go to this uncomfortably loud, rude establishment. Save your money for extra cab fare and shlep to fitzroy. It's worth it, and Greville St Ladro certainly is not.
Annette
Disappointing. After the long wait what was all the fuss about arrived on a Wednesday night at 5.40pm the place was completely empty..was told to wait for a table while staff decided if they could squeeze us in, after a considerable wait we were finally escorted to the very last table at the very back of the restaurant by a less than friendly staff member & was told that we would have to leave by 7.30pm by this stage my partner & I were definitely not feeling warm & fuzzy about this introduction to Ladro. We ordered the risotto which was only just cooked & a glass of Pinot noir at $18.50 a glass which I felt was excessive as a local I won't be going back as we are spoiled for choice with much friendlier service right around the corner

Service was so bad it was amusing.. Granted the expectations are quite large as Ladro in Fitzroy is superb... Not even being 'newly open' excuses this disfunction of ladro Prahran. Service was so bad we throught we'd done something wrong till I realised that everyone was cranning their necks looking for their waiter. Food was average - when it turned up on time - salad post pizza not the ideal scenario.<br/>The highlight was when the waitress dumped 2 menus in front of us then got really angry when she return 30 minutes later that we weren't ready to order drinks - not helpful that she's given us 2 food menus... She then ran off after taking 1 drink order leaving the 5 of us sitting there waiting for her to come back - disaster!

Monday night, not quite into summer and we are leaving the house! Must be for a good reason! Apart from the company we are off to Greville to visit Ladro ! We had been to the Gertrude Street restaurant a long time ago but this was new territory! Firstly I’ll admit I thought I was going to Gertrude, I frequently get the two street mixed up and now they have the same restaurant on them…. I am destined to fail! But luckily Ladros doesn’t!! A fantastic spot with a big area for plenty of pizza punters but somehow feels nice and comfortable and the noise levels surprisingly fine! It is relaxed Italian at its finest and the friendly staff and Charity BYO night only add to that overall satisfaction of being there! So Monday nights = $5 byo charity night! All proceeds going to Prahran Mission, we get to enjoy a few bottles and we get to give back to the community – Winner!! With a decent sized group of happy to share people we order several different pizzas and extra white anchovies…. I think t

Ladro in Gertrude Street has opened its larger cafe in Greville Street Prahran. Its minimalist decor with the same white washed brick walls and concrete floors works here too in this chic diner. Here unlike Gertrude there is a generous bar area, expansive dining hall and large olive tree lined courtyard at the back It is the wood fired pizzas that you come here for. The thin and crisp bases with their wonderfully smoky hint works like magic. The pizza puttanesca packs a punch with its chili, olives, anchovies, basil and capers. Its pastas are also quite special - not the usual lasagna or spag bol - instead rough cut pasta with bortolli beans, radiccio, goats curd and basil or the orecchiette with rich lamb ragu, peas and riccotta. Short but well priced wine list with some great Italian options. Great place to watch the eclectic Prahran clientele come and go, amidst a great buzz and brisk and friendly service. Monday to Sunday opened for dinner till late (lunch only from Thursdays). Piz

I found Ladro very pleasant overall.

How many local pizza chains do you know of that have Aesop hand soap and hand balm in the toilets, and an apiary on the roof? None? I thought as much! Located in Greville Street, Prahran (the older, original restaurant that was started by Supermaxi 's Rita Macali is in Gertrude Street, Fitzroy), Ladro has quite a funky fitout. White tiles adorn the walls, which doubles as the drinks / food specials board, on which the "Arrosto" of the day (roast from the wood oven) and the Beer of the Day, amongst other things, are scribbled on. We started our third trip to Ladro with two of the aforementioned beers of the day, Forst Lager ($8 each). We have never tried / seen Forst before, and I think Ritsy got a taste for them, so we're going to have to find a retail supplier pronto! Whilst there are many regular meal options on the menu (soups, pasta, steak, and salads), pizza is the real name of t

Ladro of Gertrude street in Fitzroy has recently opened a much roomier version of the much loved pizzeria in the back streets of Chapel Street in Prahran.

For those who are gluten intolerant all the pizzas can be made with gluten-free bases. The bases are made every second day using a mixture of soy, rice, corn and tapioca flour and are proved, risen and rolled in a way similar to traditional bases. The kitchen is completely cleared out when the gluten-free bases are made and stored in a separate area to minimise the risk of contamination.<br/>

The pizza dough at Ladro is great, crisp and billowing without being chewy and the aroma of Ladro's fresh porcini pizza ($21.50) has to be smelt to be believed. The mushrooms are teamed with smoked bufala for a simple and earthy pizza. Probably the best bet at Ladro though is the classic, the Margherita ($16.50) with its home made tomato sugo, creamy mozzarella and sprigs of fresh basil.
