Review Amici Bakery Cafe - Prahran

Wendy Threadgate
Great food and good service. Amici is spacious and is good families or alone for quick bite. They even have free wifi if you want to get some work done while waiting for your meal to be served. Good decor some colorful vibrant paintings and pictures.

Omg we were looking for a coffee place that didn't cost the earth being Toorak, and found this little Gem! Just for the look alone with all its quirky art and atmosphere you should visit! Our coffee were well done and I didn't even use sugar. So smooth! Will be back to try other things. Come here you won't be disappointed. I loved the tables and bar stools. The fact that it was quite busy got me in the door as well.

Given the location of the cafe, I was quite disappointed. I'll start with the plus which is the portion, which is really big. However. the taste wasn't really there and texture of my food was off, mainly felt like it was overcooked. Another thing is that the presentation was a bit lacking. The main downside for me was the coffee, just wasn't as good as the other cafes around the area. Prahran has so many good cafes like Middletown and Rustica that its hard not to compare.

The service is great and fast. They have a wonderful outdoor seating with a perfect heater. We ordered a long black and a latte. It was tasty. Also we had breakfast there, I do recommend this place.

Great portions for the price, was a bit unsure at first but they turned out great. Chili scrambled eggs were awesome and partner loved the granola acai bowl. For those 2 brekkies plus 2 X large coffees it was $52 including the 10% surcharge for public holidays. Will come here again for sure!

The place looks likes it’s under a new management. Service was great. Food was fine I had the 🥐 and my partner had the Avo, I was happy with mine tasted fresh and delicious. Coffee didn’t taste good at all, was so watery and tasted like instant coffee so I definitely don’t recommend it.

Food is average Melbourne prices. Interior is nothing special but it doesn’t pretend to be. Helpful staff and good food, will be back again

Absolutely perfect for (a slightly hungover) brunch. The cured salmon was delightful and, even though the tables were fully booked the whole time, the staff all were accommodating and prompt. Highly recommend the Spritz

The staff greeted me almost immediately with a smile, always appreciated. The food was great particularly the portion size, eggs cooked perfectly and the dish tasted well balanced and seasoned. The coffee was also great. Loved the ambiance and although I don't reside in Melbourne, certainly happy to recommend this venue and will return next time I'm in Melbourne.

In my opinion a great space.... Great meals, great service, music and even art!!! I already had the pleasure of listen great bands of jazz and rock & roll, defenitely recommended!!!

3 of us had the big breakfast, very good! I would say slightly over priced by a couple of $ but it was very good. Very large plate of food. My only complaint would be that they should use warm plates. I like a warm plate.. that is all.

Service was fabulous. We were served by Elora. So friendly and happy. Portion sizes were huge. My moroccan lamb sliders were to die for. And a great range of cocktails. Also made the kids feel welcome on a Saturday night.

We had such a good night. The staff are absolutely beautiful! Good and cheap cocktails as well. Will definitely recommend this place!

I called in to Amici’s for a coffee w my partner. The service was great, friendly and personable. <br/><br/>Just wanting a coffee we ordered a strong almond latte and a strong skinny latte.<br/><br/>As requested, both coffees were strong, woo!! I am not sure if they were double or triple shots but they were some of the strongest coffees I’ve tried lol.<br/><br/>The almond latte was delicious, w some great milk froth. My strong skinny latte was also very good, my only personal gripe was that my coffee was soooooo hot, so hot that I couldn’t pick up my glass. Mmnn <br/><br/>Overall though it’s still a really good cafe. <br/><br/><br/>Original review September 2018

Amici baked three fabulous cakes for my recent birthday party. From the extensive menu, I selected flourless chocolate, flourless orange and a raspberry almond crumble. All three cakes were gluten free, to cater for everyone, and were devoured by the guests. Each was more delicious than the last. The staff were extremely helpful and professional, and a pleasure to deal with. They even added extra decorations to make the cakes spectacular. I considered many bakeries before choosing Amici, and could not have been more thrilled with the outcome. Give them a try. You won't regret it.

We ordered a specially made birthday cake through Amici Cafe. The staff were great, Sandra the caterer was fantastic listening to everything we wanted and making me feel like I was being heard. The pastry chef nailed the brief and the cake ended up being even more than I imagined, all for an amazing price. Highly recommend.

Amici had just launched a new brunch menu and after seeing it online, We had to race down to try what was on offer. So many good things!<br/><br/>The CHILLI SCRAMBLE was one of the best I’ve had! The orange infused chilli sauce had a slight sweetness that worked really well with the Smokey Spanish flavours of the chorizo and bacon. Crispy shallots and shaved Parmesan brought it all together. They served it piled high on grilled sourdough, which I loved!! It does have a kick, so if you ain’t into chilli like me, ask for it in the side.<br/><br/>My wife got the BROCCOLI FRITTERS, and I couldn’t help but have a cheeky taste. Delicious, moist and perfectly crisp around the edges - these were great! They are served with two perfectly poached eggs, a tangy tahini dressing, and feta. <br/><br/>We also shared the FRENCH TOAST. This was a great end to a perfect brunch. Sweet maple, fresh fruit and a smooth, rich white choc creme anglaises, served over and around golden fried brioche bread. Yum!<br/><br/>The other highlight on the menu was a crispy skin HARISSA SALMON dish. Can’t wait to come and try that next time!<br/>

Fantastic catering! My family and I have utilised Amici many times now for catering for x2 engagement parties as well as many birthday cakes etc. The food is all made from scratch in house and is just delicious. Great range. Really easy and lovely to aliases with over email to coordinate etc. I'd just say be careful to to order too much. Value was good and will definitely use again. Everyone is still talking about how great the food was. Thanks again so much to all the catering team at Amici! :) - Caitlin.

Worst service ever received from a cafe. We walked past and it looked busy (which we interpreted as good food) and the girl who served us was really friendly but she didn’t even put our food order in. I only noticed because another table who sat down after us had eaten and left and we still didn’t get our food. When we asked there was no apology, and once again when the food came out, there was no apology. The chicken bagel I had was also very mediocre, drenched with sauce which overpowered everything. Then when I went to pay, wasn’t even greeted but got a very abrupt “yes?” <br/>I will never be back here again.

Coffee these days is expensive but when I’m paying $5.30ish for a coffee and then 30c extra for soy milk I expect the coffee to be hot not Luke warm! Unfortunately I won’t go back to try the food due to the coffee.

I have found this place accidentally on Carpel street after lunch. This place is full of energy and great music.<br/><br/>I have been cappuccino. The coffee is great tho ! (⭐⭐⭐⭐)<br/>Most importantly, the staff are energetic and very active minded !!! (⭐⭐⭐⭐)<br/><br/>Furthermore, this place is a one of photogenic cafe as you can find it decorated by beautiful paintings.

Thank you very much to make a POLICE Birthday cake for my son . It was absolutely fantastic , He  really like it and he said  super cool BEST CAKE EVER  .

Hands down best cafe resteraunt in inner Melbourne! The coffee is excellent and you can really tell the condiments and sauces are all hand made on site. I no longer live nearby, but travel to treat myself.

A friend and I stopped by here for lunch on a weekend, and we both ordered a dish from the breakfast menu. She got the citrus infused cured salmon and I had the corn & zucchini fritters. The food didnt take long to come out, and was a good portion size however I found fritters a bit too oily for my liking.

Dropped in today for an emergency hit of caffeine and definitely found gold - double shot latte was solid - other half had a slab of blueberry coconut cake and loved it. Great service friendly and reasonably quick for a busy Sunday. Only had coffee but rate it.<br/>
Sultanasofswing
Lovely staff. I had the smashed avo and wow was it a meal! Filled me for hours; came equipped with an entire, smashed avocado on two thick pieces of grainy bread, topped with two perfectly-poached eggs and a lemon wedge. So delicious....definitely one of my faves so far (and I have had A LOT of smashed avo dishes...)

The iconic chapel st place<br/><br/>I discovered amici 6 months ago. I started with the coffee... and one, two etc Sunday for a brunch. I was never know any disappointed. It’s so delicious! And for my daughter’s birthday I ordered a birthday cake. Just perfect! So beautiful and very good. She was very happy with the decoration! <br/>Concerning the staff, the guys are all the time friendly and helpful. <br/>Now Amicii is our place to be! <br/>Thanks a lot!

Great place for coffee and food. We had a birthday cake made form the bakery for 12 year old yohan. Fantastic and great value thanks to Sandra

What a mess of a place. Like watching a circus. The staff and management here need to take a serious look at themselves. The food and coffee is actually good, but the service lacks any sense of urgency or care for people’s time. And it’s been like this for months now, and shows no sign of improvement.

We ordered the schnitzel sandwich and berry smoothie. Nothing special about the sandwich, was pretty average. But I really liked the berry smoothie. Was not too sweet, very filling, big enough to share between two. However, they gave us paper straws for a really thick smoothie. Which made it really difficult to drink as the paper straw got soft. Service was great, waiter was very helpful. Was an overall decent experience.

100% come here for the (salted) caramel New York cheesecake, not at all salted but amazing. Omit the pretzels on top though. Tiramisu is dry, could definitely do with a first and second soaking of coffee liqueur. Coffee and tea standard. P.s staff leave something to be desired
Jamie Johnson
Went for the cakes. Tiramisu was bland and sadly dry at the base with no alcoholic liqueur to speak of but the New York caramel cheesecake was excellent. Adequate coffee.

I can't thank Amici on Chapel enough for their terrific service. I'm a mother based in London, England, my daughter was in Melbourne on a work trip and it was her birthday. At home I always make her a big, chocolate heavy, birthday cake. But what's a mum to do when her daughter is so far away? Amici on Chapel came to the rescue. They made a super birthday cake with lots of chocolate cookies and cream, personalised it, and delivered it to my daughter's work on her special day. Result - one surprised and thrilled daughter and one very happy mother. From first contact to arranging payment Amici's attitude was "no problem" and everything went to plan. Special thanks to Paul and Sandra for all their efforts.

A lovely place for coffee, the staff are always friendly and there’s good vegan options, even amongst the pastries. I love the almond raspberry crumble! A great place to meet your friends or get a take away!

I should’ve done this long time ago, just had a chance to do it now 😉 this place is amazing! Coffee is good, burger is amazing, dessert?? Oh that’s the best part! Nice and friendly staff too.

Had a really nice dinner here last week! The sweet potato burger was amazing and I will come back solely for that. Another in our group had smashed avo on toast (yes, for dinner) - it was such a generous serve and really delicious. The parmas all looked great too. Would highly recommend this place for breakfast, lunch or dinner (and drinks).

Went with a group of around 15 people tonight after a dinner event across the road. We didn’t call ahead to book but it wasn’t busy so assumed it was all good. I ordered a caramel cheese cake & a dirty almond chai. Firstly, when the drink was put in front of me, I assumed it was correct as the waiter (rude & blunt) informed me it was a dirty chai. At no point did he say a large chai latte which he later accused me of misunderstanding when he took it off me & tried to cover it up. He told me to calm down when I simply was asking what was put in front of me. Not a happy customer. Would come back if staff changed their attitude!

We had a family birthday lunch there about a month ago and not only was the food great and the cake we had made there yummy but the staff were great.  In particular one man - sorry don't know his name - made it fun and he was very kind to us.<br/><br/>This past weekend we had catering and a cake we had made there for an engagement party.  When I went I went to pick up the food a number of staff assisted in loading the car and they loaned me a lot of platters etc as well.  Everyone said that the food was the best of its kind that they had ever had and that the cake was tasty and lovely to look at.<br/><br/>A great experience!

Awesome service (served by Adrian, who was beyond friendly and welcoming), and the food was absolutely incredible. Would highly recommend the soft shell crab sliders. Fantastic happy hour deals (and time: 4pm all the way till closing!), and great ambience. The art there is all top notch, and available for purchase if you're enough of a fan ;P Overall, really lovely experience, could not recommend enough.

Great friendly service, delicious food with very generous portion sizes and nice setting. Good for a personal or business and free WiFi :). Will visit again

I've been coming here for a couple of years now and it has only ever improved. The service is great, friendly and the food is always delicious.<br/>Highly recommended!

Firstly, this pace is a go-to place to get coffee on a weekend. Staff are always friendly, they seem to retain their staff and you see the same faces (which is a good sign), service is quick and coffee is good. The main reason for my review is the great experience I had with ordering an important birthday cake. I am so happy that I decided to order a cake for my nieces birthday from there, I am pretty much the best uncle ever now! It was a very reasonable  price by comparison and even better then that, it totally delivered on taste and looks (photo below). It was exactly what I had expected. Couldn't be happier. The Pastry Chef certainly know what they are doing and take pride in their craft, totally recommend 110%. The ordering process was pretty easy and the finer details were sorted out on email, felt pretty comfortable the whole way through . Just delightful on all accounts. Love your work Amici on Chapel. :-)

Very nice environment. Such lovely staff. Fresh and generous breaky and coffee is on point def recommend if on chapel st. They make their own cakes and you know straight away the difference.

On a off chance stopped here for a late lunch today with friends, we shared some tasting plates and could not resist the raspberry Chocolate cake.<br/>Great food great service, great music we didn't want to leave.

There is literally no vegan option or convertible to vegan food on the menu. 1 vegetarian on the menu. Then a friend ordered a flourless cake that was so dense and dry. They don't seem to be very accomodating to help you out with the menu. Such a shame, the place itself is nice, withthe service matches.

How much better does it get than this?! Minion party for my little minion! Thank you SO much to Sandra and her team for making my son's birthday amazing!!! You guys are amazing and the cake was absolutely delicious! Excited for next year's birthday!! Thank you !!!!!

This place is trying very hard and I have noticed the patron number increase in the last few months. They are putting out flyers to customers on the street and have some great drink specials. Food is well priced and is pretty good from what I have had and others have had with me. I have no comment on breakfast items, desserts or coffee only lunch/dinner menu. Good staff and I hope this place keeps getting more business and lightens up the block between High street and Malvern road.

came for quick lunch, staff were great warm welcome , Had mushroom Risotto and calamari salad. taste good and fresh. will be back............

This was absolutely terrible! Ordered Seafood Laksa. When my food arrived after waiting 40 minutes, what arrived was some seafood in a bowl of weak, watery, tomato soup. No noodles, no flavor, no veg - not even a garnish. It was disgusting. It strangely arrived with some bread. I ordered spicy and hot, what arrived was bland and disgusting. So bad I sent the food back. I will never return!

Amici have had exceptionally good meals each time of my visits. Great restaurant with cozy atmosphere and attractive art on one wall. Tremendously delicious desserts that make me feel amazed every time I taste them.

Waited 15 minutes for a menu that was never received. Meanwhile, multiple staff walked passed us.<br/><br/>Ended up walking out, poor form!<br/><br/>Will not be coming back.

Love this place, its a daily go to before work. Food is always great, amazing friendly staff and the coffee is exceptional. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Worst experience in Melbourne. The flourless chocolate cake was so dry and hard my fork literally got stuck. When I went up to tell them this (quite apologetically and gently), their response was "it's flourless so it's not a spongey cake" as if I didn't understand what a flourless cake was. They did not accept that the cake was simply too dry to eat and didn't offer to do anything to rectify the situation so I had to ask to get a different dessert. The sticky date pudding would have been nice if they didn't microwave it for 5 minutes. It came out so hot that it burned my mouth even after blowing on it for 2 minutes- steam was coming off it and it was burnt and hardened by over microwaving. We gave them this feedback as well on the way out and they were defensive again, saying "it has to be warmed for a minute so the caramel melts". Yes one minute- not until it turns into a steaming lump of coal. How about a simple apology? Still paid the full bill. Literally the single worst meal experience I've had in this entire country.
Jean
This place has some great items on their menu and some average ones too, it's all a matter of picking something to your liking (as with most restaurants). I recommend heading to Amici when you have a group of friends with you and are able to share different things, as it was through doing that that I realised their antipasto platter and their blt sandwiches are quite delicious. The lunch deal with a cocktail for $8 is quite a good one and the strawberry mojito is certainly lovely!
Jill
Amazing desserts and coffee! The cheesecake is so light and creamy it's more like soufflé than cake. We sat outside and they had live music playing - it was a great night out. Good service too
Katiie Arch
Average at best... corn and zucchini fritters were sloppy and not very flavorsome.. boyf had the epic beef burger which was quite bland with undercooked chips. <br/>We both had milkshakes which were good. Service was okay... did however take about 30 mins for two dishes to be served with about 30% of the tables occupied, so not very busy. <br/>I won't be returning unfortunately.

I think there's a dress code here that requires the waitresses to show their belly buttons, which is unnerving. The waitress that served me also didn't know what the specials were, but to her credit stuttered and laughed her way through it. Didn't think to study the menu before she went through the same experience with the table next to me.<br/>Took roughly 7mins for two glasses of mediocre and overpriced red wine to be served, although the waitresses were mostly just standing around.<br/>There was a really cool jazz band playing, which was the actual reason I stopped and sat down. They were jamming, and having fun which I liked.<br/>In summary, if you want average red wine along with terrible service, hit this place up!

Had breakfast here this morning with a girlfriend. The place is a bit run down however we were greeted by very friendly staff which is more important. I just had a very boring avo on toast with a side of mushrooms but it was nice. My friend had the muesli and she enjoyed it. Not too busy on a Saturday morning so I would recommend for a chilled breakfast. Coffee was not the best I've had but not the worst either.
Shock Nwave
Attentive staff and wonderful décor. Although recently they've got a deal where you buy two drinks and you get one free. The deal doesn't specify what kind of and size of the drinks that need to be ordered and what category of free drink you get in return. It's a real test of the customer and staffs patience. Let's hope they go back to the happier happy hour specials because I'd like to return rather than be mislead.

Really great food and service, was seated and served immediately with friendly staff. Food was delicious and reasonably priced for what you get

Amici is a fairly large bakery cafe on Chapel Street. They serve cakes and other sweet treats as well as main meals. <br/><br/>Food: We popped in for a cake and cold drink after shopping. The cakes are the kind that make you drool every time you walk past. They are all made using fresh ingredients, and you can tell, they look amazing. <br/><br/>Our gingerbread was great, light with a nice crunch and good flavour, but unfortunately the lemon tart was disappointing and was far too bitter to finish even with two of us sharing it. We ordered two juices as well which were super fresh and refreshing. <br/><br/>Atmosphere: As the cafe is quite large, it can feel a bit quiet very easily. We found it felt a bit deserted even though there were still quite a few people in there. It has a nice design though, good separate area for people ordered take away and bright artwork on the wall.<br/><br/>Service: Service was friendly and it's nice to go somewhere for a snack and feel you are being treated equally to people ordering main meals and we were, nothing was too much trouble.<br/><br/>Would I go back: If I was passing. It's a shame, on the face of it looks like a great place but the cakes just didn't live up to expectation.
Christopher
Waitress saw we were waiting to order. Decided to stop and have a chat to her friend next to us first. It took in 45 minutes for them to then bring out breakfast for two, and they didn't appear very busy at all. Aside from that, the food was decent. Bacon could have been cooked more. Girldriend thought it was really good, but she doesn't have a zomato account :). I wouldn't come back.
Shanaka Eats
Dropped in after a gruelling bball session. Staff were friendly and efficient and were very attentive to our needs. I had the wagyu beef burger which was very satisfying. The beer battered chips were especially yummy. <br/><br/>I have to admit the best part about this place is the attentiveness to detail by staff.

Quickly stopped off for deserted. Ordered the peanut butter walnut brownie and the chocolate protein bar. Both were yum. Very large portions 👌🏽 can't complain there and well priced. Good place to stop off for a naughty treat. Thanks guys

Casual dining on Chapel Street. Decent quality food, good to go for a catch up lunch with friends.<br/><br/>They do some good cheap lunch deals.<br/><br/>I usually get the Mushroom Risotto for $15. Huge portion, barely finish it. Great taste <br/><br/>Coffee is good too.<br/><br/>Would come again

The staff are lovely and the service is great. We got the lunch special of salmon pasta and chicken mash and jus. Got big portion especially for the price. The pasta was quite nice, the chicken however was just okay. A little bit lacking in flavour, the stuffing was a bit dry and cold. The mash and the jus were great though.

Exceptional service.Great staff.Loved seeing a mothers group near the couches chilling out with babies. Sunshine juice I had rocked. So fresh

Been here few times! Great Location and nice staff. Coffee and food can be better. So much potential but staff is changing all the time. It used to be my place to go.

Great food and service. Went for lunch and I love how they serve breakfast all day. I had the green bowl but thought it would be served with bread but was mistaken.

This place is one of those venues you know has good service, space for a large group and good food and drink. I have been here a few times now and its always busy (a good sign). Prices are reasonable and they have a varied menu, with the brunch options being a favourite. Unfortunately the last time I went here was for lunch and instead of going for a full meal off the menu, I opted for the beef pie as it looked delicious in the cabinet. It was served with a generous portion of chips but the pie itself had minced beef (as opposed to chunks of tasty beef) inside and was dry lacking flavour.  The coffee didn't disappoint and service was friendly and efficient!

This place is GREAT for cocktails out the front outside on a sunny day! Cheap too - $10 specials and a great wine list. Lots of smokers out the front so not a place to bring children or little ones but inside is hectic busy. I can't believe a lot of the reviews as the place is always packed solid. <br/><br/>
Rebecca Higson
Great customer service - very attentive and on the ball. Friendly staff.<br/><br/>Good food and drinks - loved the chocolate milkshake! Food a tad expensive, but beers a good price.<br/><br/>Returned a few times to work - good wifi.

I mainly go in for coffee, being a barista myself, I'm very fussy about that, love always found their coffe to be good and well presented. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and on the occasions I've eaten there I've found their food to be fresh and tasty. I'll certainly go back again and again, a great atmosphere and welcoming staff make for a pleasant time.

If you want to go to grandma's tea party, an Art Deco gallery, Internet cafe and bar... then just come here. Weirdest restaurant I have ever been to. They claim to be a bakery... When there's alcohol bottles sprawled everywhere.... A corporate meeting in one corner and people drinking beers in another. <br/><br/>Service: poor, had to ask for tables to be cleaned & unsure of the dessert names <br/><br/>Hygiene: dirty fork. <br/><br/>All we wanted was a dessert to end the night but wish we went elsewhere... Shame. <br/>
DP
it is open until midnight on a Saturday and staff Service is good..... but that is about it. Coffee was bad ... it tasted burnt. Cakes were so hard!.... How can you serve such things.... Old stock?! My friends and I were unable to finish our drinks or cakes and we will not be returning.
Aaron Korczak-krzeczowski
I went inside on the weekend and ordered breakfast. I came in very early and they were still setting up but the food came very fast. I ordered poach eggs on toast with smashed avocado and hollandaise sauce. It all went really well togather and the eggs were perfect. To drink I had orange juice which was decent. The food came farley fast and a service was fine. I had a good time and will come again if I'm on Chapel Street

I had a private function for my engagement at Amici and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. The venue, food, staff and drinks were amazing. We've had many compliments on how great of a night it was, how good and plentiful the food was and how awesome the drinks were. We picked you a few cocktails to be served throughout the night so everybody was very happy.<br/><br/>Great venue for a private function, recommend it highly!

I came here with my workmates for a much needed catch up. Since it was in the late afternoon, we ordered cakes from their display sweet window, 2 bowls of chips, cups of tea, coffee, and glass of juice. Some of the cakes were hit and miss. The black forrest was dry, while the chocolate flour less cake was nice and moist. The cheesecake was good and lemon tart was tangy and refreshing. You can't be wrong with chips and tea, right? and coffee was alright. The juice was also pretty good. The staff were nice. We were there till closing time but the staff were nice and not rude towards us. So for that I am grateful. My workmates did say they are regular to this place.
Trisha
Walked past it one day and saw $5 dollar coronas and persuaded me to come in and have a quick drink for the go. Decided to have brunch here another time, the food was good but nothing special. Not to cut it short, it's a nice little venue.
Amy
I don't normally do this, but I just had to express how disappointing my experience was. I came here by myself for dinner a couple of weeks ago, and sadly watching the staffs lack of dynamic as a customer was disturbing. While I was trying to read the newspaper, I couldn't help but hear the man behind the bar shouting orders to the waitresses while he stood on his phone the whole time, waitresses looked like they were going to cry, seemed like the barista was doing everything and a woman that kept leaving to go to the toilets every 15 minutes. Pork Burger took 30 minutes to come out, it wasn't busy, and the bun was burnt and the pork tasted off. But to top it off when I went to pay,the blonde waitress could hear the conversation I had with the barista, expressing how strange it was to watch them work, and how bad my food was, she smirked at me and walked off. Can safely say i will not be going back and will be NOT recommending this place to anyone. Disturbing experience to say the least.

This may hurt a little... The cafe is a really chilled relaxed setting and the staff are generally nice. I've been here several times and each time it has never been at a good standard. My partner and I ordered 1 coffee and 2 meals. After waiting 20mins, I followed up on the order.... Naturally, my eyes followed this waiter as she/he looked confused. I then saw that they never processed/finalized the order on the system, hence why we never got our meals. I can definitely understand the pressure of the job and taken into account that it was a quiet morning but not once did this person approach the table to update us on the wait etc. The coffee came almost immediately and by the 40mins mark we gave up. Proceeded to the counter to pay, the barista was very apologetic, but again, the supervisor? didn't give me any eye contact nor spoke to me, as it was obvious that the service has let us down that particular day. I noticed this supervisor was a hard worker and pleasant but something was lacking in the service...
Carl
Sadly disappointed with our dining experience. We were talked into coming in for a late dinner by the waiter and her '$30 for two mains special'. <br/><br/>We ordered the beef burgers as they had reportedly ran out of the salmon fillet. Extremely average, neither of us finished the burgers nor chips. Service was ok and drinks weren't too bad. <br/><br/>Hopefully the coffee and other items on the menu are better. Avoid the special menu though

Having traveled the world for the past seven months, it was a joy to come back home to enjoy once again the superb food provided by the Amici Bakery Cafe - whose standards have seemingly improved whilst we have been away! <br/>Our entrees - Calamari and Asparagus dishes set the scene for a wonderful culinary experience, these dishes preceded an outstanding Wagyu beef hamburger and the specialty of the house, grilled salmon. <br/>Chapel Street has no finer restaurant than the Amici Cafe Bakery - it is good to be home again.<br/>You may even find an elephant or a fish inscribed in your delicious coffee provided by the talented Barista.

Coffee is served in lovely cups of a proper size and taste. I also had a  banana bread which was served warm with some butter. Very, very nice! The service was also very nice and proactive.

Have just started my new job in Prahran and needed to find a place for my daily coffee fix and lunch.  Walked along Chapel Street and found this lovely unpretentious cafe.  The staff were friendly and welcoming, the coffee is good, and the prices are seriously good for what you get.  I ordered the coconut and chia seed porridge which was made with almond and coconut milk which is great as milky porridge don’t agree with me.  It was delicious and I enjoyed the figs, berry compote and almonds garnish on top which made it look rustic.  I surprisingly cleaned the whole bowl which is unusual as I am a small eater and tend to graze.  It was a very pleasant and comfortingly meal on a cold winters day in Melbourne.<br/>The front counter is stacked with all sorts of yummy goodies made in house.  Their scones, banana & walnut bread, almond croissants and Portuguese tarts all look so tempting, so I will be sure to try them next time one day at a time.  They have lots of ready made wraps and rolls overflowing with fillings, and the chicken avocado and chicken schnitzel ones look scrumptious.  These I will have when I am time poor and have to work through my lunch.<br/>I can see why this place is popular.  It has a lovely vibe, great food and great coffee.  I will need to find excuses why my boss will allow us to have our team meetings here.

Found this delightful café on Chapel Street and was enticed in by the ambience and vibe - it actually had music that I could sing along too - an eclectic mix of popular music so I felt was quite comfortable being there.  I looked around and there was everyone from little bubs to workers and oldies. We enjoyed their super juices - one was called "sunshine" and was actually was the only sunshine in an otherwise wet and cold Melbourne day.Not being a salad person and wanting something healthy for once, I had the falafel fattoush salad - it was scrumptious which is amazing for a salad.  The falafels were made with the trendy super foods "kale and chia seed" and was surprisingly delicious and the best falafels I have ever had.  Being a non vegetarian, this meal was excellent and I will definitely come back.  Healthy never tasted so good.Looks like this café will become a favourite place of mine.

Shockingly slow service even on a Saturday with limited patrons, if you like to wait around for ages waiting for food this is the place. Food was ok nothing special.

I use Amici for catering almost every week and can only rave about the service, quality of food and the friendly staff whenever I do go in to the cafe.  Highly recommended!

A very unpleasant experience. I went for breaky this morning (Tuesday) at around 8am. There were two guys behind the counter who were playing with their phones and didn't come and serve me for about 10 minutes (when i asked!). I won't be going back as long as staff like this work there.
Ramen Girl
Not sure why this place is popular. Maybe because you can't miss it? Been once and once was enough. Food was mediocre and coffee average at best.

Great coffee and  breakfast.<br/><br/>Night time meals $15 special is also worth a try which is great value and taste scrumptious.  You won't be disappointed with the the choice of cocktails and freshly made mixed fruit juice either.<br/><br/>The waiting staff are friendly and easy to have a conversation with.

Pretty average food that I have had there is pretty average. Nothing to rave about! <br/><br/>Coffee is below par as well. <br/><br/>Not my favorite place!!!<br/><br/>Toodles

good vibes at this iconic place but wait staff need to be more alert. my coffees were fine, nothing special but still a good standard coffee.

Nice spot, interesting decor that is always interesting, friendly staff, very approachable even chatty, very fresh and tasty delicious food from entrees to mains and desserts, nicely presented, nothing too much for them, just ask and they went out of their way to accommodate us, walked out filled to the gills and very satisfied thank you, oh and by the way their coffee and after dinner pastries and tidbits are excellent to, coffee is as hot as I like and that is so hot I cannot drink it, try any of their special drinks, they are a whizz on the palate, so refreshing

The decadent concoction of golden syrup, rolled oats and coconut make it the perfect treat with your freshly brewed coffee. The thin cookie has just the right amount of chew versus crunch factor, making this cookie a stand out amongst its competitors. It is also a low GI alternative to other sweeter cookies at the café, which means you will feel fuller for longer, especially due to its giant size.

Two Visits In One Day. Two visits in one day – they do a $15 parma night and I brought my parma mad boyfriend with me. Boy was he happy – he loved the parma – the chicken breast fillet was tender and he loved the herb and parmesan crumbed crust and said it was amazing with the salami on top. He did not leave any for me. I had the smoked chicken crepe and it looked as good as it tasted. We finished by sharing a very decadent coconut citrus rice pudding (absolutely exquisite) and a hazelnut salted caramel French macaroon. The front counter is full of heavenly cakes and sweets, and we brought some gorgeous cakes takeaway for our parents and a “big” banana & walnut bread slice (only $4.5) for tomorrow’s morning tea at work.<br/>This place is good – I just love it – it is so enjoyable to relax and chill out here. The music is great – a mix of everything popular and songs that I know too. The manager introduced herself to us and made sure we were looked after. We will come back again over the weekend as I am already missing the bruschetta and devilled egg and want to have the coconut rice pudding all to myself.

Fabulous food and cocktails. Timing out from our all day conference for lunch, we headed off to Chapel Street looking for a place where we could sit outside as it was quite sunny and we had been stuck inside an airless room all morning. My colleague fancied Asian and we found a place called Laksa Bar. it looked dark inside like it was closed but they had some furniture outside and the leather chairs reminded me of the conference room and looked more like inside furniture than outside. We looked around and spotted a sushi cafe and a restaurant across the road. I persuaded my friend to try the restaurant as it looked buzzing with customers and had outside seating with people soaking up the sun. We went over and sat down, and a courteous waiter greeted us. We ordered the crispy polenta and cous cous salad, mixed spiced calamari, and the bruschetta devilled egg as they do an all day breakfast. The food was yum, in fact very delicious and flavoursome, - so glad we came here for lunch. We treated ourselves to some cocktails as they have a special going 2 for $18 - my friend ordered the frozen lychee mojito and I ordered the espresso martini - what can I say - they were wonderful and my friend was so pleased that we decided to come to here. With our takeaway bonsoy chai lattes, we strolled reluctantly back to our all day conference meeting.<br/><br/>We will definitely be coming back as this place is amazing - the food, the cocktails, the vibe and ambience - it is just lovely. I will definitely be having what the table next to us had - smoked chicken crepe and the double decker parma and I can't wait to share this with my boyfriend who is parma mad.

Amazing!. I totally love this place!

Great Caterer. Amazing food.. My daughter's 21st birthday was at a time she was visiting Melbourne with her uni cohort to perform at Chapel off Chapel. I planned a birthday party for her with 26 of her friends and asked Amici to do the catering. Doing it remote control from Brisbane was going to be a difficult task. From the beginning they were amazing. They worked out a great menu to include gluten free and vegetarian options at a very reasonable price. They responded promptly to any queries I had and they delivered the food on time. Everyone loved the food and I must say that their service has been exceptional. Cannot recommend them highly enough as a caterer.

This place is a disaster. I sat outside an almost empty Amici waiting for a menu and some service. 12 minutes later I left, taking my money elsewhere. This is not the first time I've encountered the appalling service here and only returned due to a lack of breakfast cafés open early along this section of Chapel. I am now happily sipping an amazing latte at St Edmonds 2 mins after walking in the door.

Bad service. Bad food. Never come back agian.

Reply to Michael Lord. Hello Michael Lord, if that is infact your real name.<br/>I am the proprietor of Amici Bakery Cafe. I have noticed that you have posted 5 negative reviews about my cafe in the past 4 months. Other negative reviews under the names 'Nick' and 'Fat Teddy's Crew' closely resemble the language you repeatedly use.<br/>Surely, if you find my cafe so offensive, you would simply go elsewhere? There are many to choose from on Chapel St.<br/>Or are you infact a disgruntled former staff member? Or a rival cafe owner?<br/>Please accept my invitation to visit Amici and make yourself known. I will happily discuss the perception you have of my cafe. Go on, atleast try to act like a man. I dare you.

Nice brekkie. Pleasant experience. I had my toddler with me and they were happy to attend to extra milk needs. Also staff were attentive :)
Stuck In Transit
Looking for a quick bite on a Saturday morning, we stumbled across Amici Bakery Cafe on Chapel Street. The outdoor area looked quite busy so thought we would give it a go. After seeing several people sitting outside, we thought it was going to be difficult getting a table for 5 people. However after walking inside, it was virtually empty. It seemed as if they were going for an industrial/farm look, which was a bit confusing. High ceilings with exposed pipes, concrete looking walls, and wooden tables were the main features, however the floor was quite a quite awful brown barn look, which didn’t match the feel of the space.

We had breakfast at Amici this morning, and it was good. Actually, it was really good. It's a bit of a barn, but without the cold and draughts, etc. The servings are pretty big, though, so be warned. Really nice, but BIG. Service was fine - the waiter knew what was going on with the voucher, and they got the orders right and were pleasant and polite, so that's pretty good. (Paying was a bit of a less organised affair, but worked OK in the end.) Our voucher said anything off the breakfast menu and a coffee, which actually means tea or coffee, but no hot chocolate, unfortunately. So we had the tea, which was pretty nice, even to someone who doesn't drink tea - it was nice and hot, which is always a good start. Cha had the corn and zucchini fritters, with a stack of bacon and tomato and wilted spinach, with a drizzle of sweet balsamic. Seriously nice, lots of bacon and the fritters were nice and crunchy. I think I'll have this next time we go. I had the b

Avoid at all costs. Ok where do I start? Got our coffee order wrong. Staff were rude when we told them, didn't say sorry and made it seem like an imposition when we told them.<br/>Food came out and was extremely bland. Our fries came without herb salt and the chicken parma arrived without bacon (even though both are meant to have them). Its like they dont even know their menu. Again, no sorry from the staff when we told them.<br/>Please avoid, so many nicer and less overpiced places on Chapel street.

Amici Votre!. Life can be beautiful when you're with friends! And there is no better place than Amici for a catch-up. This place ticks all the boxes: Extensive cocktail list to keep the stories coming, tasty platters to share, a great selection of meals like only Melbourne can offer and a tip-top Shiraz (that's my pick, feel free to try the other wines). And then there is the cakes! What a display and selection! Some of the best patisseries in Paris will be envious. All that in a pleasant and roomy venue so you don't have to hear what a great job the guy at the next table did all day.<br/>Fantastic evening! Thanks Amici and Staff.

Wouldn't go again. Food was average and bland. Staff were inattentive and rude. Had to fetch our own cutlery. Much better places on Chapel.

What's happened to a cafe that led the pack in Chapel St, not so long ago.<br/>Over-thick pieces of bread does not a breakfast make, and my simple eggs and barely cooked bacon yesterday was a complete fail.<br/>At least our waiter person was well meaning.

NOT Portuguese tarts. I went especially to the Amici Bakery to experience there Portuguese tarts.<br/>I have had these tarts before both here and in Portugal.<br/>The tart we were served was nothing like a Portuguese tart and very disappointing.<br/> I wont be back.

I had the fish and veggies and it had NO LOVE.. The waitress are beautiful but the chef really bad..

Tasty food, relaxed vibe.. One of my fav go-to places on Chapel St. Has a diverse menu catering for healthy and indulgent options. Good for socialising or solo dining. Can cater for a coffee-stop/coffee & cake/meal. Chilled, casual atmosphere. The cakes and slices are delish. Recommended for sure. Keeping in mind it is a bakery-cafe so probably not a place to go for a special occasion.

Great food, stinking attitude. Came in for a meal Sunday last afternoon 12.10.14 and the meal was delightful. haven't been to this restaurant before and safe to say I will not be returning. Whilst enjoying my meal, directly opposite the open kitchen we were rudely interrupted when a lady- ( term used losely) I assume a more senior employee started screaming disgracfully at the staff working in the kitchen and then even threw food across the kitchen ! I am disgusted to see staff treated this way especially seeings I was enjoying my meal. Talk about Bullying in the work place I was shocked and embaressed for the staff. The owners should be ashamed allowing this behavior in the work place. If any of the staff file for bullying they have good reason. Lizzy

Would not recommend this place the glasses were disgustingly dirty, the tap water was green and the food was not fresh! Very disappointing

I thought the cafe would be good because we've seen a lot of people sitting outside there on wkds. <br/>I would never go there again. Disgusting food and service were singing out loud, banging tables and really arrogant. Worst cafe been to in melbourne so far

FussPot. Went to Amici for dinner tonight and had a great experience.<br/>We had a traditional Parma and a 'Koshi Burger', both of which were excellent. Intrigued by the name, we asked where the name came from. At this point, the chef introduced himself as Koshi. I love original dishes and menu's that reflect a venues individual character.<br/>The service was friendly and the drinks very reasonably priced.<br/>We will be coming back soon.
Leah Tucker
Went here for a friend's birthday dinner, was given the back larger table, which made it more private. Has a relaxed and chilled vibe. Friendly and attentive waiters, ordered the Parma and a freshly squeezed juice, loved it!

Not going back. Lost count how many nice meals I've had at this cafe over the years. However since new management has taken over quality of the food has been very very poor. Today I ordered the scrambled eggs on multigrain with a side of mushrooms. Eggs were runny, very little flavour and portion size was barely enough to cover one slice of bread. My wife ordered the chicken and avocado toastie which was so bland we complained to a staff member. Definitely not going back....Plenty of nicer cafés on high street.
Fat Teddys Crew
New Management? It's gone to sh*t<br/><br/>What's happened to Amici's? 1. New decor looks cheap ikea fake flowers everywhere - it used to be dark, sexy & PACKED OUT. 2. Coffee was bad & cold ... way below par. 3. Asked for toasted - was barely warmed through.<br/><br/>Whereas once the servers would be overflowing with pre-made salad rolls & other yummy lunch treats - today's cabinets were almost empty. <br/><br/>OMG - so sad. This place was a Chapel St institution - now it's like a suburban cafe with fake flowers everywhere. Talk about taking something great & destroying it.

I've eaten here a few times and have always been really happy with the good and the service.<br/>The calamari is brilliant and the waitstaff are always really friendly!

Awesome food & great service!. I eat here almost every week and LOVE the food- the vegan salad is amazing! The staff are really friendly and accommodating. Great location too!

Dont bother . Slow service, inatentive waitress, food comes before coffee, in fact coffee comes halfway thru breakfast. Poached eggs smashed avo in a bowl on top of a mountian of rocket which hides slivers of cold tomato lining the plate. Everything including the eggs and toast cold. Coffee ordinary

Every time I have gone in there for coffee your barista has proven to be completely incompetent. Today was the peak of that incompetence when he gave me my coffee in a broken cup that leaked all over me before work!! Needless to say, never going back again.

Infuriating. I had to get two coffees on my 10 minute lunch break only to be served by a guy who was hungover, and seems to be more interested in talking to a girl with sizable...assetts. He only had 2 people to serve in front of me and he literally took half an hour because of his chattering- I wish I was exaggerating but unfortunately, I am not. To make things worse, he then picked his ear which was absolutely disgusting and not an acceptable thing to do in hospitality. Never going back again. If you do not want to be infuriated by the immature and mediocre staff at Amici, I suggest you get your coffee elsewhere.

Meh! Girl next door cafe it's got all necessary qualities nothing exceptional but a tip rinse out and clean your glass washer after picking up 3 dirty glasses from "clean" pile for water I had to order bottled water

Great Cake. Cheesecake here is the BEST !!!

Nice vibe. Went here for brunch this morning. Had a decent meal. Was nothing to really write home about though. Service was great and so too was the vibe inside (reasonably busy). Would probably give this place another shot. Kitchen needs to just amp up the seasoning! The ideas are there just lacking a little execution.

Worst service on chapel street.. The staff at this place must be writing the good reviews as i can't see how anyone would find this place acceptable to eat at. Upon arrival we were seated by an extremely rude unenthusiastic waiter. Our table was dirty with old chunks of food on it, waiter clearly saw this twice and did nothing about cleaning our table. We asked to have our table cleaned and the waiter walked off rudely then came back and placed our cutlery and napkin on top of dirty bits of old food. Our waiter then delivered one menu to share between us and told us that there was no menu's left, the place wasn't packed and we saw near the entrance a whole heap of menu's so clearly he was just lazy and had no interest in serving us. We then had to go get menu's ourselves and change tables as he still hadn't come back to clean our table and seemed to be standing around chatting. The staff here seem like they have no management and are just doing what ever they please. The service is slow, very rude and unwelcoming, unorganized and the worst i have received anywhere on chapel street, i felt it was so bad that i needed to write a review about it. I find this a shame as the place could have enormous potential given a change of staff and change in attitude to customer's as the food is quite good.
Larry
This place was great. Staff were friendly and attentive and the food servings were very generous. Just had some scrambled eggs with bacon and avocado, and it was explosively delicious

Best New Bar!. As my partner and I wandered down Chapel St. last Saturday night we were handed a voucher each to buy two cocktails for twelve dollars at Amici. Thinking it too good to be true but irresistible at the same time we decided to give it a shot and have subsequently found our new favourite place to have a drink whenever we feel like one.<br/><br/>The cocktail list is traditional and done properly by a team of two expert and clearly experienced bartenders who take pride in their work using fresh ingredients and quality spirits. What started out as a couple of drinks quickly turned into several more as we sampled their list and ended up staying for dinner.<br/><br/>Already known to us as a place to get fantastic breakfasts, coffee and cakes the chefs at Amici have designed an evening menu of superb standard! The calamari is the best we have had in years and the Lamb fillet salad was incredibly good and under twenty dollars! We were informed that the kitchen is now open until midnight on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights so hooray! At last an affordable alternative on Chapel St. for night owls like us who are tired of settling for a souvlaki after ten pm!<br/><br/>The music is a mixture of retro and new rock n roll and played at a level that makes you want to let your hair down, though for those looking for a quiet corner there is ample room at the back of the venue where the music is played at a quieter level. <br/><br/>The floor staff are fast, professional and seem to enjoy their work! A rarity when we are all so used to the minimalist approach most new bars seem to pay homage to in their customer service.<br/><br/>After being gifted another 'two for one' cocktail voucher each on the way out (bear in mind the cocktails are only twelve dollars so that's two for twelve) and realising that ice cold Coronas are only $4 all day every day (!!) we were back with friends on Sunday night and they enjoyed it as much as we did. This time we all indulged in exquisite traditionally made Sangria and a 'Grazing Platter' to die for. <br/><br/>We then devoured some of the best desserts we have had in a long time beautifully displayed at the front of the venue.<br/><br/>'Amici' have set a new benchmark for revellers and foodies alike and are a very welcome addition to night time Chapel St. Their huge indoor and outdoor spaces, quirky decor, amazing prices, incredible quality and brilliant service are sure to impress!<br/><br/>I know where I'm having my birthday now this year!

Our Spanish rags was really bad dry and salty chorizo, soggy bread... We couldnt even eat it. Flavours don't match at all. We receive one dish we have to wait for the second one, the baked cheesecake really dry and heavy not enjoyable at all. We mention it to the lady in the front counter as a Feedback and we have a really poor response. Not going back not recommending to anyone to go.
Daniele James
SHOCKED! - they said 2 for one cocktails. Ended up with a huge bill as they lied and charged us full price for everyone drink! RIPE OFF! Never again!

Stressed Breakfast.... After picking up a friend from a cruise we thought Amici would be a perfect place to catch up over excellent coffees and hearty breakfasts...<br/>We had just had our order brought to the table when some inconsiderate waiter changed the relaxing ambiance into a head banging ,public bar rave...no amount of asking for the volume to be turned down made any difference...<br/>The only thing worse was 2 tiny poached eggs served on "rock" bread with greasy bacon and my girlfriend's stodgy banana bread...we didn't finish our meals and left to head off to Kanteen -which we should have done in the first place...
Kirstymay123
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. I can not rave about this place enough. Had a breakfast with 10 people and we all absolutely enjoyed everything there.<br/>Coffee and food were super delicious and the smoothies were to die for.<br/>The customer service was exemplary, they gave us free lemongrass and ginger tea for a girl that wasn't feeling too well and everyone else was super bubbly and happy. This place was amazing & I will be coming back many times!

Wow what a difference. We are long time Chapel St. residents who used to frequent Amici, but stopped going due to a bad experience. Decided to try again, and WOW.<br/>Great food, coffee and service.<br/>Highly recommend and will be back.
ANGRY COFFEE MAN
Unlike everyone else. I have experienced the total opposite. The service on both occasions was FANTASTIC. However, the coffee was filthy. Don't serve it if you can't make it...again...bitter and cold! The food was also no better, decent price and decent portions..but something I could easily make at home.
Jason
Walked into this cafe around 4:30 this avo with my mates. The cake display is good.Ordered squid and fritters. They tasted amazing. Awesome flavours and well presented. Will get back soon. ;)

Not very good service ask for a burger was meant to be served with house fries but I got shoe strings chicken was way overcooked burnt and dry bun was soggy on bottom like my burger had sat the for 30min before I got it

Yucky vegetarian roll. Went to amici to get some lunch, I heard they are pretty good.<br/>Went there at 4pm. Kitchen was closed, and the only non sweet dessert vegetarian dish they can serve is egg mayo roll or vegetarian roll. So I went with the veg roll. The roll was super sh*t and bland. The wrap though was nice, but everything in it was just tasteless bland wet, dripping off the roll... And they also put an effortless salad on the side... Amazing,.. NOT!

Loves it here. Coffee is amazing. Had coffee and lunch with friends today & had 3 coffees. Def best I've had in a very long time. Kudos amici

Good service. Amazing service, cute little cafe, absolutely loved the set out. We ordered smashed avocado on toast, needless to say ive never had anything like it in my life. The bread was amazingly made, with a smooth scrumptious mound of avocado on top. I also ordered their freshly squeezed juice.. i had to order more than one glass. nuff said.

Great Improvement. Has there been a change in management? Whatever has happened is great! Stopped going there last year as I was not happy with the service and the coffee. Glad that I decided to go back in last week as there has been a huge improvement in service, coffee and menu. I will now be a regular!

Happy Return. I'm not a fussy guy, but I reluctantly returned to Amici's as I was invited by a friend for a coffee and a bite meet, but I must say it has improved out of sight. No more chasing your order, no more indifference from staff. It's quite obvious they have someone running the place now and the staff appear that they actually want to be there. The vibe is now great and so is the coffee. If I had to suggest something, I would make it more inviting from the street, i think it's tired and has fallen behind other shops in the vicinity.
Donna
Great to see the change. Great to see change. Great reasonably price new menu and obvious management change. Staff were friendly and provided prompt service. Would definately recommend a visit. Coffee is also delicious.

Changed..... This place has really changed. We always come here on special occasions as we spend too much money here. Last time we went i got charged extra for a strong Soy Chai tea. It was not very strong at all and had i known it got charged extra for it i would have send it back. Most Chai teas are made with soy so i'm not happy to pay extra for that too. I really don't like when cafe's and restaurants charge you for something you are not aware of, it just isn't right!!

Nice Museli. Turkish bircher museli with poached apple and yoghurt was delicious, had some kind of special flavour, perhaps cardamom. Chai latte served in a large coffee cup had a nice inoffensive flavour. <br/><br/> However restaurant let down by atrocious music of a genre I could not identify.... scary music, scarily bad. I would return for the food definitely, high quality.

Good but lots of problems. Service no good and the food was ok. the desserts are ok but still this was a terrible restaurant, i suggest to go elsewhere for breakfast or lunch

Terrible service both times visiting. <br/>coffee wasn't anythging special, food took an hour to come out, and it wasn't even busy!<br/>Staff are rude, and don't know the menu. doesn't look like there is a manager at all. all staff seem really young and under qualified. barista looked asleep.<br/>the only good thing is the baked treats and the fresh juice.
Greg
Needs leadership. This is a strange place. There doesn't seem to be anyone in charge and the people working there don't seem to be that enthusiastic about the food or drinks. I get the distinct feeling that it is just a money maker for someone who is not really into hospitality. This is the sort of place that would do well with a good looking into by Gordon Ramsay, as there is potential somewhere to be found, but it needs to be tapped into. My suggestion as an observer would be that the place needs a leader - someone who will improve the culture of the staff and make the staff excited about the place.

Amazing coffee today! I had to order another! The food is average and the waiting time is a bit lengthy. But 100% recommend their coffee! Best coffee in Melbourne! Good on you barista!!

AWFUL! Just terrible! Waited over an hour for food, had to get our own water for the table and our own menus.<br/><br/>The food that came out after we re-ordered it when it wasn't put through was almost inedible! <br/><br/>When we complained at the register we were laughed at and given a $14 "loyalty discount" off our $80 bill!<br/><br/>If anyone you know suggests eating here.... Hit them!

Terrible service. Had to go up to counter as staff took over 15 minutes ignoring us. 40 mins later we asked after our food. We were told the printer didn't print our order. Told we would have to wait another 15 mins. When my salad actually came it had additional ingredients e.g. burnt prosciutto that snapped on touching, soggy stringy asparagus. And ingredients that were meant to be there like the chicken was over cooked and dry. So after waiting so long I didn't eat the meal and suckled on my beer.... Amichi fail. And from my Facebook status that complained, the comments back seem that this is not unusual. To top it off when we complained the awkward counter girl laughed at our complaints. Fun times.

Wouldn't avoid going again but,. I'm not in any hurry to go back either.<br/><br/>It was all, ok, coffee and cake, though I think a flourless orange cake doesn't need to be presented with a raspberry sauce.<br/><br/>It was late in the day, so I can forgive the more relaxed (or tired) attitude of the staff. The screaming music wasn't exactly an attractant either - Gangnam Style? come on, really, PLEASE.... that crap has gotten older than I am

Terrible! Worst service in Melbourne and found plastic bits in our meals. Was told they'd let the chefs know!

Very poor service and food for price.

Terrible service. Been there so many times. Drinks didnt come untill the end of our meal. So we cancelled them. Then a guy came with the drinks and asked me why we cancelled them. <br/>After we explained the reason, the guy came and gave us a bill even though we haven't asked! The service was very rude and I won't recommend people to go to this cafe.

Well worth a visit. Some recent management changes at Amici in the last couple of weeks should make a big difference to the service.. <br/><br/>Great coffee, lovely petit-fours and the best cake I have ever eaten (dark chocolate and raspberry cake with dark chocolate and raspberry ganache). <br/><br/>They do catering too - they catered mum's 60th birthday with a great range of really yummy finger foods - loved the frenched lamb cutlets in particular! <br/><br/>As for the cafe - It's easily accessible for prams, there are highchairs available and baby chino's are free - suits us perfectly :)

Coffees only, bad lunch. I’ve been there before for the coffee which is excellent. This time we went for lunch for the first time, and it will be the last. We found Amici takes its “friends” for a bad ride.<br/>The lunch specials looked good on the board. The 5 spice chicken salad ($16) was in fact very poor: if the skin is left on the chicken, it should be crispy to be edible. It was left cold and lumpy by the salad dressing. And by the way, why did I end up with way more fatty skin than chicken meat? The actual salad was excellent by its freshness and quality, but the dressing was poor. And none of the claimed pomegranate was to be found.<br/>The poached egg on eye fillet was unsatisfying: one poached egg with hollandaise, 2 tiny pieces of eye fillet (properly cooked medium rare to order), field mushroom"s" which numbered one (!), four baked vine cherry tomatoes, one slice of bread, $24 price tag. It tasted good but left you very hungry.<br/>The service was very charming but paying the bill took 10 minutes.<br/>As for honesty, I do not think the 14 unsubstantiated positive reviews within a week in September from new Urbanspoon members will fool anyone.
Karena
Poor service. Five minutes - it may not sound like a long time but waiting there for that long at the counter being IGNORED by waitstaff - it felt like an eternity, and quite frankly, it was embarrassing.<br/>All I wanted was a wrap to take away - and I was the only person at the counter. But staff would look at me and walk straight past me.<br/>Thanks Amici, I work on Chapel St and will now look elsewhere for my lunch.

Great Coffee!. Popped into Amici today for a quick coffee and i really have to say! the greatest Chai Latte! I'll be back!
Clementine
With such friendly service, great food - and ALWAYS a good coffee. I am never disappointed at Amici. A great spot to people watch and get a coffee fix!

Amici is more than friend. Magnifique, formidable, superb, suette, and fantastic!!!Amici t takes the operation of this cafe very seriously and it shows in every way. The warm greeting from everyone, the menus with something for everyone and the food, beautifully prepared and so delicious!!! Few café's can really deliver on all of this and Amici does it every time.
Lani Irene
Most amazing and chilled out.... Terrible, not worth setting foot in there when there are so many great places to choose from close by!
Marisa
I like it. Amici has a great environment. The staff there are great, they will assist you with anything that you need. The food is amazing, from the pastries to the main meals. I have been there for a few functions and wow they know how to make the night very enjoyable.
Danny Roberts
Brekky me up!. Haven't been to Amici in a few years, and now I regret it! Had a group of four sitting outside in the sun people-watching on a Sunday morning. Good service and the Eggs Benedict was amazing, it had ruined Eggs Benedict for breakfast as now no-one can compete!
Matt
Great Coffee!. Popped into Amici today on my way to work! and i just have to say! thank you for the great soy latte! keep it up!

After attending a really fun engagement party at Amici a few weeks back (yummy food, great drinks and awesome waiters/bar staff), my girlfriends and I thought we'd hit up Amici for brunch on Sunday. We consider ourselves professional brunch connoisseurs as we brunch weekly at cafe's all over Melbourne and I must say Amici satisfied all our senses - pumping yet cosy vibe, delicious food, fresh juices, gorgeous friendly floor staff and the best soy latte a girl could ask for! From amazing private functions to completely satisfying brunches; Amici, you got it all!!
Ryan
Breakfast delight. I must admit, I'm a bit of a regular at this cafe - but, I was absolutely blown away by my latest visit. We had a group of 15 and had booked out the Board Room. The staff were most accommodating and the young girl serving us had a smile from ear to ear even though we were all over the place with our ordering. Very pleasant experience, delicious and generously-sized meals, good coffee and highly recommend the cheeseburger (had been a big night). Thanks again Amici!
Sofie
AMICI ME ALL OVER!. Hello food lovers!<br/>I was in amici for the first time the other day and I have to say there’s a great vide going on in there. I did wait about 30 minutes for food but the place was pumping! Why haven’t they opened up some more stores! Great place, good service, and some of the best ribs I’ve ever had! Loved it!
Sean
Great Morning at Amici. I popped into Amici this past Saturday after some friends raved about it the previous week and I must say the raving was well deserved! I had an amazing serve of Salmon and Eggs with probably the best Chai latte I’ve ever had. I was tempted by the very well presented cake fridge but having come straight from the gym I had to pass. I have just booked them to look after our office lunches this Friday. Thank you Amici!
Marc
"The customer is always wrong". Dear Amici Bakery, sadly today you have lost my two friends and I forever. That was the most disgusting bout of customer service I have ever experienced. With breakfast for 3 coming to $95.00 you would expect service with a smile. Your maitre d' was hands down the coldest and rudest person I have encountered in hospitality for a very long time. I think she must have learned that "The Customer is always wrong". and "Smiling is for the weak". Your waiter got my order wrong three times (my fault apparently) and the lady at the counter who has split our bills many times before suddenly felt the need to retract at the expense of losing our business for good. Amici, you used to be a great place to eat, but your service is letting you down big time. I will never eat there again and will ensure all my friends stay well clear of your restaurant.
Rayza
I didn't have a terrible experience but I definitely won't go out of my way to go back again. Our waitress was nice, the coffee was below average and the food was ok. My friend had the fruit toast and the almond croissant, he said the croissant was amazing but I had a dry tasteless frittata - or omelette as they called it - with what tasted like dons salami wrapped in cardboard. It's probably a really nice place but I won't go back
Tina May
I've never had a waitress roll because I asked 'can you make that a large please'. Add to that all our coffees came out with at least a cm gap at the top. Invest in a barista that can pour a full coffee and staff that understand the meaning of 'hospitality'
Josiah
Good food and pastries. Horrible staff. We waited 1 hour for our food when it was only at 50% capacity.
Paul
Second time I have been here and the service has been awful on both occasions. I'm never comming back but I will say the coffee was hot and the food was alright, but really not worth the price :(
Grant Taylor
There is an apparent "why are you bothering me" attitude from the waitstaff. Coffee and cake is obviously beyond them as the coffees were ordered, delivered and drunk and no sign of the cake. When we ask, more attitude.
Koko Monster
Good coffee but everything else is meh. Waited at the counter for ages to be told 'it's table service' sat at a table forever to order coffees and look at breaky menus. The food is overpriced. The coffees are good though.<br/><br/>Waited half an hour for two croissants, one came. Were told 'the other one is coming' it never came. Boyfriend finished his croissant, i was well over it so we went to pay and asked about the croissant, it was still in the toaster. Apparently the first time they made it, it had burnt and the second time croissant had been forgotten about...<br/><br/>They weren't busy and they had plenty of staff on so.... I don't get it.
AvK
First time in my life where I couldn't finish a chai latte. It was so strong I felt like I was inhaling spices. So yuck.
FineDineWaiterBoy
A friend wanted to have coffee here so I had to go, I watched the staff walk past my soup for 10 minuets with the odd look at it and move on whilst it sat there. I had to get a staff member to come over and tell them that my soup, that has been sitting on the bench for 10 minuets is mine and an they bring it over. My toast was cold by the time I got it. Really? Do these staff care at all?
Amber Helen
Overpriced, bland & formulaic food served by wait staff who clearly aren't enjoying themselves. Never again.
Tastebuds
Not happy. I have eaten at Amici sporadically over some years. As a casual lunch place, it has generally been good. However, I won't be returning again after a recent bad experience. The staff were rude and in attentive, with a long wait for food, and then the wrong order arrived... there was a 'sort of' apology. I also noticed other diners who complained about staff issues to the owner. Not good enough for South Yarra or anywhere else. if you don't want to be wait staff, then go and do something else. Don't try and ruin my day.
Queen Of Food
Overpriced, over cooked and certainly not up to standard food. The food tasted boring, dull and The flavours weren't right. Did I forget to mention - $7 for a glass of juice - absolutely ridiculous!! Should have gone to Subway done the road. Disappointed customer won't be returning EVER again!
Foodie_j
Not what it used to be
Arual La Frangipanette
Overpriced and very ordinary. The staff are rude and lazy. A great example of how not to run an eatery. It took ages to get served.
Greedygreedyguts
Small fresh juice $7, smoothie $9. GF!
Freudian Fleur
Amazing. Went there to use deals voucher! We were very happy with the service n the food!! Definitely one of my fav breakfast place!
Cookiemonster
One word - AMAZING. I only ever come here for breakfast. It's out brekkie place. As a creature of comfort I stick to my favourite - the lite breky - which consists of poached eggs, wholemeal toast, lean ham, avo and light cream cheese. It is to DIE FOR and hits the spot everytime. Great atmosphere, Staff are excellent, attentive, friendly but efficient and helpful. <br/>Couldn't recommend this place more. Love Love LOOOVE!!!
Robert
Average food and super slow service After immediately being seated, and having our drink and food order taken (burger, eggs, shakes and water),new waited 45 minutes for the shakes. A following hour later the food came. Water never arrived despite a reminder. Was not disappointed as I had all day, however would not return again.
Aarno
The service has become increasingly disgusting. Waited over an hour for our breakfast at 3pm and when finally arrived was cold. The waitresses were shockingly rude and slack
JoC
By far the best fruit and nut toast (or bun) on the planet. Coffee always good, but service usually terrible
Iceman
I had high hopes for Amici. It started well with friendly and attentive service but the important stuff really let them down. The food was amateurish and the prices inconsistent with the quality on offer which leaves Amici impossible to recommend :(
Chev
I went here for a function. The venue itself is really great. The floor staff, weren't quite sure what they were serving but were very pleasant. Unfortunately the girls working the 'bar' were very rude. They refused to serve drinks during speeches which is a good idea, but they didn't have a problem talking and making lots of noise. Other than that the night was run fairly well. Everyone had a great time, just unfortunate about noise during speeches.
Miss M
Amazing. I come here with my girl friends all the time. The coffee is great and good food. Definately recommend it after a big night out.
Big D
Appalling service and pretty average food. Considering the quality if restaurants in this area I won't be surprised if they gradually go out of business avoid.
Ben
Apathetic Service and Cold Food. We went to Amici on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago and were appalled by the apathetic service. It took 20 mins to order and then we waited for another 40 minutes to receive our simple breakfasts. No apology or explanation! To top it off one of the meals was cold when it arrived! The food was quite bland as well so overall a very bad experience.
Clujen
Okay.... I went here on Sunday with a friend to use my 'jumponit' voucher for 2 breakfasts and 2 coffees. We ordered a Latte, green tea and an iced coffee and for food we both ordered the zucchini and corn fritters. We waited for about 15 minutes then our tea and coffee finally arrived, I had to remind the waiter about the iced coffee. About 5 minutes later the meals arrived (still had not received my iced coffee). At first glance the dishes looked great - the presentation was good....but after my first bite I wished I had ordered something different. The fritters lacked any real taste or seasoning, the fritter on the bottom of the plate had gone completely soggy and I wasn't the fan of the sweet balsamic drizzled on the plate (this wasn't mentioned on the menu) ... However my friend liked hers, so I think is just my personal preference. Not sure i'd come back again, as nothing else on the breakfast menu really took my fancy, there are better places to eat breakfast on Chapel Street
Suedy
Pretty vanilla. The food is fairly stock standard cafe fare, and the service is friendly but forgetful. Not a great deal of atmosphere, and there's no real point of difference with this place when it comes to their food. Having said that, I walked away from my breakfast with friends full and content. Worth a look-in if everywhere else on Chapel St is packed out and you're stuck to find a table on a hungover Sunday morning. It's just not the sort of place to go for a memorable meal.
Micmic9
Food was good but nothing spectacular. Strived to find a smile from the staff
Tim
Visited here this morning. Served immediately, waited an hour for food!! Asked twice about the food during the hour wait and left in disgust after our food never arrived!!! Never again.
I Binge On Food
Chicken and pesto scroll FTW!. - Chicken and pesto scroll - Winner of the Sat breakfast. Generous amount of ham and cheese, creamy and served warmed, plus crunchy scroll on the side<br/>- Vege fungi - The mushroom taste really good! I'm not too sure about the goat cheese. It was my first time tasting it and I've decide I don't like it.<br/>- Apple crumble - A bit too sweet and the crumbs were a little too think for my liking. Still taste good though.<br/>Overall, good service, cozy interior and warm ambient. Great for quiet catch up as it was not too many customers. Bear it mind I was there at 7.30am on a Saturday morning.
Yvettemadelaine
Great food, bad service. The service here is so hit or miss. Had breakfast last weekend & was fine. Today, we ordered three drinks and three snacks (a muffin, a croissant, a Portuguese tart.) One of the coffees arrived, and then we sat for 25 minutes. We ended up just paying for the coffee and leaving. Train up / hire more staff please.
Melstar
Terrible service... Waited 15 minutes for someone to take my order and left when nobody did. Was not even that busy, v disappointing.
Arabica
Value for money with friendly service. Visited Amici today with a voucher. The breakfast selection was varied and unusual. The baked eggs with meatballs was nice as was the big breakfast. Coffee was ok, staff were friendly and the food was served promptly. A good selection of bread and pastries on offer.
Harrybird
Mark. Want a great hardy breakfast then eat here. Food and service excellent. Took advantage of The Specials Board I Phone App and brought one Breakfast and received the second one FREE. 10 out of 10 from me.....
Luke
We go here every time my parents come to visit from brissy. They love this place-and so do we. We always get good service and the breakfast options are great. Love the fresh orange juice, beautiful poached eggs on their delicious bakery breads, great coffee too! We have been coming here regularly for over 3 years-and would recommend to anyone!
Calypso
Breakfast. Have only tried the coffee here, but apparently they do amazing bircher muesli and granola. As for the coffee, it is pretty good but not mind blowing, always packed though especially on saturday afternoons
C Cooper
Sickening Service. Without a doubt, the worst service I have received at a cafe in the last 5 years. Over an hour's wait for breakfast. The excuse? "We're busy". Clearly not too busy to serve the other tables who ordered after us and received their food before us. If you can't handle this volume of customers then either hire more (effective) staff, or reduce the number of tables.<br/><br/>Edit : Complained to the owner and he was amazing. Dealt with my complaints, apologised, and made our next experience there lovely. He dealt with the rude staff and went out of his way to serve us. Gotta give credit where credit is due!!!!!

I'm a regular. I go here all the time, its a solid place, food & coffee are great & consistent, staff can be hit & miss, thats the nature of caffe's...its not fine dining people....good value too..
MelbourneMiss
Mushrooms with goats cheese and spinach. I came here for Saturday brunch. Yes, it was busy. But no, the service wasn't bad. They had enough staff on hand. It took maybe 7 minutes for our order to be taken. Coffees came 10 minutes after that and food another 10 minutes after that. I think that's perfectly fine on a busy Saturday.<br/><br/>I had the mushrooms with goats cheese and spinach and it was truly delicious. Lots of different types of mushrooms and a big thick slice of toast. My friend had the corn fritters and commented favourably. My long black was really strong but I like it that way. The food might be a few dollars more than other cafes but the quality was worth the price. I'd go back.

As a regular Amici customer, I'm so disappointed by the new menu! Smaller portions, higher prices, and the Amici wrap no longer is served with Portuguese sauce, sour cream and salsa. A big thumbs down! Think I'll give Amici a miss for a while...
Ryan
What a delicious breakfast and coffee! I really enjoyed my time and the price was very reasonable. Also enjoyed the take away pastries!
Marco
Went to this place for breakfast, it was terrible, the service wasnt very good. The poached eggs I had looked like they were thrown against the wall, the only good thing about this place was actually leaving

Embrace the old. As the rest of Melbourne becomes preoccupied by small 40 seat cafes and designer menus, it's ok every now and then to fall back to the old, comfortable Italian canteen style experience and chow down on something familiar and honest. Big, shared open space, all concrete and glass, the constant clatter of chatter and cutlery, cushioned wall seats you sink into, good pastries, decent coffee and honest to goodness food, all at prices below the Chapel St choke hold. Service can be hit and miss, but that's the way everywhere. For the most part, you smile they'll smile back. And they appreciate feedback: one of their soups let down miserably, and after gently telling the proprietor, I received the meal free, two discount coffees when I returned on separate occasions, and just now I've come back from the bacon, veg and lentil soup ($8.50), with two giant slabs of wholegrain (no sourdough! Rejoice! Such bravery!) and I am one replete, repeat customer. Don't come in with your nose in the air, embrace the atmosphere and the indulgence of eating in a comfortable, easy going venue that seats a 100+ and you'll do well ...
Laura Sellitti
I absolutely love this place. The waiters know us, remember where we sit/ what we like to eat- and we only go around once a fortnight! Amazing hot choc, great eggs. Fruit and nut toast mmmmmmm.... Can't say a bad word about this place.
CanadianinMelbourne
Not-So-Friendly local cafe. I walked in to ask the barrista a question and she completely ignored me from behind the counter while I waited (we were practically face-to-face) then she turned her back to me and walked away. I spoke to the manager because I was interested in working there (looked like a really cool place), but the manager simply asked where I was from and told me "no offence but Canadians don't know how to make coffee". Absolutely insulting. I worked for years at an acclaimed independent cafe in Toronto; their loss...<br/><br/>If you're looking for bad service and bad coffee, this is the place to be!
Carpe Diem
LOVE their cake cabinettt :). Cake+coffee special $7.50 !!!!<br/>i guess it's worthy.<br/>i love the modern and busy atmosphere as well as their sweets!<br/><br/>the day before Australia day,we got served a piece of lamington :] <br/>the other day , we had little pistacho cookie with our coffee order!<br/>It's always pleasant surpriseee :]<br/><br/>ps, last time i asked 'almond croissant' to the guy there, he said "no we don't have almond croissant"<br/>but i just checked cold cabinet there's 4 of them left ?!<br/>WT..

Great breakfast at Amici. Joined friends for a fabulous breakfast at Amici. Loved the mushroom stack & my friends really enjoyed the corn fritters. Best coffee I've tasted for a long time. Keep the good work up Amici. We will all be back again.
Wendy
Amici bakery. Amici has the best breakfast and coffee, also makes amazing birthday cakes.

Used to love it. They burnt us finally- when after giving them Many Many "last chances" they yelled at my fiancee for "Using Their Wifi" ( she was on her iPhone, on her own paid 3g connection, had just finished her coffee ) after we'd been regulars for almost a year. that was the last straw, never going back.<br/><br/>food ok coffee meh
SarahAnnie
Good Coffee, Good food. Love the falafal wrap, raspberry and white choc muffin and adore the almond croissant! Coffee is good, not long to wait for takeaway depsite being busy. <br/>Was a regular for a while whilst working in the area.
Jazzy Jay
The food can be great however the service is terrible. Hard to get their attention, when you do it's rude with no personality. I live close and have been going in quite alot and still no staff act friendly or recognize me? If you want good food with no personal service, go to amici!
Charlotte
Best Breakfast. Great breakfast and fantastic value. i love the eggs benedict and when you ask for crispy bacon, you actually get it
Grant
Went here for brunch with Ange. The food and coffee and service was excellent. No surprise that Amici was bustling with people, but this didn't adversely affect the level of service. Overall: quick, cheap, good
Ross Mitchell
When we eventually got served, coffee was good. Food overcooked, but may have been waiting for one of the disinterested waiters to bring it to us for too long, so may not be the kitchen's fault. Would suggest giving it a miss.
Craig Nock
Comfortable, good outdoor space. Huge menu, especially for breakfast. Tasty food.
Billi G
You can satisfy pretty much anything you fancy with a great variety from sandwiches, pizzas, snacks to a full meal or a sweet treat with a great coffee. The service has always been great too

Excellent place fir lunch. Beautiful coffee and fresh meals

Beware of the Shake !!. I have ordered a chocolate milk Shake and have asked to have it as thick as possible.<br/>The thick shake has arrived and it was a big and well thicken shake.<br/><br/>When I go the bill, I found out that was charged for:<br/>CHOCOLATE MSHAKE $5.90<br/>XTRTA ICECREAM $1.00<br/>XTRTA ICECREAM $1.00<br/>XTRTA ICECREAM $1.00<br/><br/>Total of: $8.90<br/> In my opinion, there should not be extra charge for thickening the shake and if there is, I should be notified in the time of order and not when getting the bill.
