Review Saigon Rose - Prahran

Jason McIntyre
We had family visit and booked a table at Saigon Rose. Lucky we did, as this place was very busy. The service was very fast, friendly and attentive. The entrees and mains also came out quite quickly. All of our dishes were a hit with the family. From the spring rolls to Barramundi special and the duck with plum sauce.

Food was OK but nothing special. My wife's wok fried seafood noodles were topped with defrosted, mushy, and flavorless vegetables, and equally chewy and flavorless seafood. We had to go eat somewhere else after as she couldn't eat more than a few bites. The Bún wasn't bad. The place itself was only half full yet deafeningly loud. Service was good. Overall, hard to recommend with so many other good options on Chapel st.

Went to Saigon Rose in Chapel St Prahran last Saturday night for dinner. It has changed hands and the service was terrible. First of all there was NO Heating in the restaurant and it was FREEZING in there. Second, our entrée dishes were wrong, only received 3 out of 4 we ordered, other dishes were sent to our table we didn't order. Then there was the main dishes, again wrong dishes sent to our table and they missed 2 main dishes. The rice that came out with our main dishes was cold. Will definitely NOT RETURN. Was not just our table, there were other tables that had the same problems ALL NIGHT. Check your bill at the end as they tried to charge us for the dishes we never received. I have to tick one star but it was not worth even that.

Decent, well priced (for chaps) and authentic Vietnamese. Had great spring rolls, beef in Betel leaf (moist and tasty), and honey pepper pork. All good. Chicken pho was a little bland. Great service.

I've only ever ordered takeaway from here, and Saigon Rose does some of the most delicious Vietnamese food I've tasted in Melbourne. Their curries are packed with delicious ingredients and every mouthful is full of a burst of flavours. While I can't pass comment on their venue or service, I can't speak highly enough of the food!

I know Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne and this is not the best. Only if you are stuck in South Yarra. No offense to the service, which is perfectly polite, and the interior which is lovely, and the atmosphere is even not bad... The servings are too small. We ordered crispy fried noodles with vegetables and it was really really small for fifteen dollars for a main, it was not enough to fill me, and I am a very small woman who weighs about 50 kg, and I don't even eat much. If you want a really good standard meal you will travel out to Victoria Street Richmond. The problem is probably there is not enough competition for Vietnamese food on Chapel, perhaps some of the clientele can't tell the difference, but I know many can, and I am not the first to mention the poor value for money. Tiny portions. I really don't know how they could have gotten four stars rating! Some people must be their friends, or they don't know any better.

Brilliant Vietnamese. Been coming here for 15+ years and it only seems to get better. Service is prompt and unassuming, really clean, nice decor and great value for money. You can't look past: Beef Lalop, salt n pepper rockling (#thabest), fried rice. Best Vietnamese in South Yarra or Prahran #handsdown #definitelyhighlyrecommended

Saigon Rose has been a staple for myself, friends and family for years! The food is always fantastic and fresh, the staff are friendly, polite and attentive - a rarity down Chapel Street these days. The ambience is soothing and comforting. Smart casual dress which is great for a simple dinner or a celebration.

Love Saigon Rose! Been a regular customer since years now and still go whenever I can. Must say they make the best pork and prawn Singapore noodles (with extra mushrooms), smoky charred flavour and perfect balance of spices. Great lunch deal specials daily. Highly recommended 👌

Saigon rose is a good little low key place for a quick catch up with friends. The food here is more of an Asian inspired Infusion of various Asian delights. You will find Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese dishes on offer. We tried several entrees mains and deserts. The food here is pretty tasty but I would have to say it’s not really that different from your typical Chinese restaurant. If your after something a little different probably not the place for you but if your looking at playing safe give Saigon rose a go.
Lisa
Ordered a prawn spring roll vermicelli- loved the spring rolls, very fragrant and crispy. The homemade fish sauce was tasty but a bit too dilute for me. Service was prompt and the reasonably priced for the area.

Nearly 25 years in business and I can see why! Saigon Rose is one of Chapel's only traditional Vietnamese eateries, offering all my favourite dishes including vermicelli salad and salt and pepper tofu. Both are great here and pair wonderfully together. The spring rolls are addictive and crunchy which complements the soft tofu well. I also really enjoyed a starter of generously portioned San Choy Bau. The restaurant is BYO but also offers an extensive wine, cocktail and even Kombucha selection. If you're tired of the nuevo fusion spots taking over Chapel, give Saigon Rose a try instead.

It's been a while! More than 10 years since I was last here - good to see it's survived considering all the changes on Chapel St. Sadly, whilst reasonably priced, the food - with a notable exception - was on the bland side.
First off - tasting plate for 4 which was reasonable. But the beef with honey & black pepper and chicken with chilli & lemongrass uninspiring - it was difficult to differentiate between the two! Boneless duck with hot & sour sauce was a winner, and Chinese Broccoli with garlic exactly what you ask for. $200 for 4 people including a bottle of red not expensive at all - although we could have done without being told the explanation for the delay in the serving of mains was due to a run by Uber Eats for takeaway. Namely people sitting at home get priority over those of us sitting in the restaurant.
GoodFoodHunting
An understated restaurant serving consistently good food. After having eaten at Saigon Rose four times in the past 3 months I can say their consistency in flavour and taste is what has me going back to them again and again. Great service and they are a BYO on all days except Fri and Sat.

Always friendly service here. The staff look after you and their food is on point. Regularly go here for the lunch special. At $15, you can't go wrong.

Delicious Vietnamese food, great service, BYO, variety in the menu, lovely atmosphere great staff! Love the vermicelli noodle salad! Price is great too. Definitely returning!

Same prices and quality as victoria street but much closer to home and a nicer decor. Service was a lot less Germanic than Richmond too. Very pleasantly surprised. My new go to for budget Vietnamese! Pho was as good as anywhere in Melbourne and BYO much appreciated.
Dam Burger
Came here for midweek lunch and glass of wine. Reasonably priced lunch special and I recall only $5 for a cheeky glass of red at lunch. Nice to be able to sit outside too

Food 2: fusion Vietnamese ... pho was good (but not authentic you know) 😊

Service 1: fine dining type

Decor & atmosphere 1: fine dining modern Vietnamese

Second time we've frequented this restaurant. The service was extremely slow for a Saturday night. The Vietnamese coleslaw was great and so was the vegetarian hot pot with rice. The vermicelli chicken dish was below average zero taste. You do get value for money. The staff are very friendly I will certainly be going back there.
Tardar Sauce
Yum! We had the veggie spring rolls, egg noodles with veggies and the vegetarian claypot dish (no fried egg). Total came to $37. Restaurant also has BYO for wine only.

Best. Pho. Ever. And I don't say that lightly. The seafood noodle soup was amazing too! Service is fantastic! Interior is nothing to write home about but who cares when the pho is just so freakin good!! New fave!

I didn't mind getting lunch here now and then as the place is quiet, and you can get typical Vietnamese items - prices are definitely better compared to the trendy Hanoi Hannah!
It's a simple place, and does the trick if you know what you're after.

Saigon Rose is a Vietnamese place in Prahran. Friend A likes to always go to places close by just for the convenience. But I like to go far for the good food. I tend to think that all food places in the North side are no good. But occasionally there are some good stuff there. But here at Saigon Rose it was dead quiet except for the couple of Caucasians nearby. But then at 7:30pm more people turned up. They did take a while to decipher the menu.
Nathan
I found Saigon Rose in a moment of desperation on a ride home from work.

The staff were nice and super accommodating when we asked if we could make some of the dishes vegan.

I shared the sizzling tofu and stir fried greens with some jasmine rice. Really fresh and tasty dishes.

I'd go back that's for sure
LocaLohan
An oldie but a goodie, they have done the place up inside and the staff are so attentive. Im all about the attentiveness and not having to look around when i want a drink or when i want to order. We had chicken spring rolls, veg fried rice, satay chicken, sizzling hone pepper beef and it was amazing. Cheap and easy. No complaints, good for locals and good for some great Asian if you want to get away from waiting for tables at nearby hawker hall, saigon sally etc

I've been going to this restaurant for many years and it is the best Vietnamese food I've ever eaten anywhere. I live interstate and travel to Melbourne frequently and always eat here when in town. The staff are polite and attentive, food is always fresh and tasty, and it's great value for money. 10 points.

Ordered their soft shell crab as appetizer, garlic and chili prawn and fried rice. They're all amazing! Seafood was fresh, well seasoned and then fried to perfection. Portion was generous - good for sharing. Friendly service. Would love to recommend the place to family and friends.

I have been craving for authentic Vietnamese food so when I first read the menu, I was quite disappointed as It just looks like other traditional Viet restaurant in Australia. However, all the dishes are quite nice. It didn't have a very strong taste (that's why I like it a lot). We ordered one hot and one iced coffee but the waitress didn't tell us that they didn't do hot coffee so they just gave us one free iced coffee, which is quite nice.

The restaurant has a nice ambience yet I went there on the day, there was a huge group of Vietnamese people talking very loud so it was a little bit annoying.

Overall, it's a good experience but I'm not sure I'm gonna be back.
Jima
We had the chicken with chilli lemongrass, the lemon chicken and a large special fried rice. For drinks we had just a raspberry lemonade and a lychee drink. The lemon chicken was average. The chicken with chilli lemon grass, although tasty, lacked both chilli and lemon grass. It was disappointing as both have an amazing aroma - especially lemongrass! The fried rice was good and helped us finish everything. The staff were okay but looked like they were in a hurry to get us to leave which came off as rude - especially when we had asked for cutlery. We can use chopsticks, but we needed plates instead of bowls to share on as my partner eats a lot and eats fast - the waitress was rude about it but brought them. It's very dim in the restaurant but I feel like it went well and created a soft ambience.

A finer approach to Vietnamese cuisine. A lot of items you will not have had at your regular Vietnamese restaurant. Things like Seared Cod with Tamarind Sauce. The taste palette is authentically Vietnamese but with a twist to cater towards a western palette.

Westerners will love the unique flavours they've probably never had. And Vietnamese people like me enjoy it because its a modern twist on classic flavours.

Definitely a try, I took my school teachers who were 30 years older than me, and they loved it and have told me they keep coming back with out me.
Live_in_melbourne
Nice Vietnamese food. We had it on a busy night and this place wasnt as packed on Chapel st. I liked the pho I had, but the Lemon chicken was a little bit disappointing. I guess we will just stick on the Vietnamese cuisine here.

Wonderful fresh Vietnamese rice paper rolls , nice flavour and good price . (Pork , prawn good , sauce ok )
Good lunch specials I like the curry tofu and the beef lemongrass and chilli noodles . Half meet / tofu half rice , not great if u don't eat / want plain white rice .

I Decided to pop in after work for dinner very impressed ! First time to dine in .
The pork belly ( I originally thought it was going to be one belly / piece from the description ) but it was sliced up ( still amazing ) it was soft and delicious, with a lovely flavoured soy type sauce , really enjoyed the serving size and the sweet potato chips on top ! Crispy and yum ! I was very full with some rice on the side . Good price .
My Friends grilled squid was lovely , very tender and I would order this next time I am in for sure !
The Special fried rice , lovely good sizing , flavour and ingredients .

Quality of food and cooking preparation 5/5
Flavour / authenticity : I would say quite westernised but I loved it ! 4/5

I always get lovely service from the ladies / Waiters here .... Perhaps because I am a local and our because I come here to eat on lunch break :)

Only negatives :
** only slightly annoying thing cash only if under $25
(A few ATMs across the road )
** charged me 40cents for one take away container ... I've never had that before in any restaurant . Did not complain as perhaps it's the normal thing in this area .

Overall : very happy :) and will return and recommend
Hello World!
Saigon Rose well mixed Vietnamese cuisine with local taste. It's a descent Asian restaurant. We thought we would got some hot pho for this cold night. Unfortunately they don't serve them during Friday and Saturday nights. Their stir fries were good though! Vietnamese herbs and spices were also be able to bring some energy into this winter diet.
Joy
Pho is of a high standard. I love that they have a selection of pho and vermicelli options, as well as a comprehensive list of entrees/dishes and specials (chicken ribs, pork belly Bao). Something for everyone.
Champagne_supernova
It annoys me that they don't serve pho on Friday and Saturday nights! It would be better if they had a minimum spend instead. The menu is a bit confusing, with many items seeming more Chinese than Vietnamese. It is a good place to go as a group as you can order many dishes to share and BYO wine, but if you're after tasty Vietnamese food then there are better options in the area.
Jake
Lot of authentic varieties and choices. Really nice and refreshing pho. Decent price. Nice atmosphere. Friendly and considerate staffs. Love to come back again with friends and family.

Classy place! Had a really lovely dinner here with friends on a Saturday night, on recommendation from one of our dining party who regularly visited Saigon Rose when they were in Richmond and then faithfully followed them to Prahran. The restaurant wasn't packed which surprised me based on the quality of the food and the great prices. BYO is welcome. I really enjoyed the whole snapper with tamarind sauce, and the others loved their salmon with a ginger soy sauce and lemon chicken respectively. Everything on the menu looked fantastic. Service was prompt and friendly and this is a really nice restaurant - far classier than your average Vietnamese restaurant, but still with excellent food and great prices. Recommended!

Luckily for me this place is so underrated. People tend to go the groovier settings however the food here is fabulous! Byo option makes it even better. Highly recommend.
Coco
I've been eating at Saigon Rose for years - consistently delicious food, super friendly staff and reasonable prices. They don't try to modernise their dishes, they just stick to the classic Vietnamese flavours and I really appreciate that! This place is a total winner :)

The whole experience here was just poor, completely disappointed. First glance in looked fine, interior was good, I suppose. But the service was terrible, food tasted poor and the presentation was poor as well. While waiting for our cheque (10 minutes waiting for it), all I could think about is that I just wanted to leave. Never would I go back here again

Their soft egg noodles is my favourite noodles in the world!! And I have been to a dozen Asian countries!! I've been here 20x in the past 6 months and I don't live close! And I ALWAYS get the same
dish!! And the quality is consistent!! Thank you Saigon Rose!!

Consistent food. You know what you're getting every time you go there. Decent price and great daily lunch specials @ $10.50. Top faves : broken rice with pork chop and fried egg, stuffed chicken wings, good ol Vietnamese spring rolls with mint, lettuce and dipping sauce, fried rice and the prawn dishes are best.

Really poor quality + overpriced meal. We eat a lot at proper Vietnamese places in Springvale/Victoria St/Footscray + while I was expecting/happy to get some sort of non-authentic westernized fusion version I just didn't expect tasteless food. Laughably, they'd gone to elaborate lengths to eloquently describe the dishes on the menu - so it made what we did get served much much worse.
First up - entrees where like eating cardboard, not fresh, nothing like described and just flavourless. I actually had to ask for soya sauce so I didn't die of boredom eating them - something I never have to do elsewhere. For our mains, the butter fried prawns (from special board) could have been good had the chef decided to actually add some spices (as they seemed fresh) - yet they didn't and it was boring too.
We also paid a premium for a whole cooked fish in tamarind + chilli sauce, however the fish was obviously unfresh - possibly off (likely frozen bagged fish from Springvale instead) + the sauce was just shocking. Apart from obviously no trace of chilli I'm pretty certain sauce had come out of Maggi jar from the supermarket - an overpowering monotone taste only vaguely resembling tamarind. In short - absolutely nothing like the elaborate description promised (which told tales of hot and sour 'taste sensations').

Service was really ordinary - apart from being only people in restaurant for at least start of meal waitress was just completely disinterested - far more concerned with setting other tables than providing customer service to the only people who'd shown up (and I think keeping up with facebook or something on the mobile).

Anyhow - I'd advise you avoid this place - you're likely to get better at the many cheap noodle takeaway shops that seem to have taken over chapel st.

Ate here last night. I can't complain about the food. Is what Vietnamese restaurants should be serving. Food. Was fantastic, but by no means terrible. It does taste and look a bit one dimensional. This goes for all 4 dishes we had.

Food is good, of that there is no question. But my three friends and I will never return after the head waiter/manager was so jaw-droppingly rude to us. Shame; I wonder how many others have voted with their feet because of her caustic mouth.

Great Vietnamese food - non hipster and better for it!. Lovely cost atmosphere, so much better than I had imagined from outside the restaurant. They Beef Pho is arguably one of the best places in Prahran for Pho - delicious stock is what makes it pretty much perfect and they do the stock here really well. Very fragrant and tasty.

I'm Vietnamese and I have always found most of the Vietnamese restaurants have either good food but the Resturant is not clean and it is poorly managed or the complete opposite - poor food but clean and managed well.
I was very impressed with Saigon Rose!
Great atmosphere, very clean (didn't have to wipe down my own table) and the food was fresh especially the rice paper rolls, which most restaurants make and have them in the fridge until they are ordered.

Saigon Rose make them fresh to order!

Good job! I am glad I have found a good Vietnamese Resturant

Average and expensive. Only a small amount of noodles in pho, would be nice if there were more...
The Dodgy End
Saigon Rose is a long-standing member of the Chapel St Asian restaurant fraternity and seems to stay reasonably busy. A couple of friends and I managed to get a table on Monday night once the reserved sign was whisked away. The restaurant is sparsely decorated with only the beer selection adorning the walls and a single large black and white photo depicting scenes from Saigon (or Ho Chi Minh City as it is now). It seems it’s not the sort of restaurant you come for the ambiance. We started with some drinks, and a friend and I decided to try the Vietnamese beer Huda. Apparently it wasn’t the first time the waitress had heard the “Two large Hudas” joke before. Either way, we moved onto Asahi after that as Huda wasn’t really a winner. For entrée we ordered pork and prawn rice paper rolls, banana chicken, and salmon and asparagus spring rolls. The surprise winner was the banana chicken. Pockets of chicken breast stuf
One Fat Cow
A great casual place that serves up decent Vietnamese food at the right prices.
Livia.bonazzi
Awful experience. The squid was slimy and tasted like ammonia. When we notified the waiter she said the chef tried it and thought it was perfectly fine. They have no idea!
What a pity, it used to be a decent restaurant before it changed hands.
Fiona Collins
Pho was terrible! Tasted like a 2 minute packet of noodles with can soup
GlenIrisFoodie
Had a lovely night at Saigon Rose tonight. Beef and cashew with oyster sauce was so yummy and service was really good. Not pushy to order and they left our group to talk and catch up without being asked for drinks all the time.

Watch the corkage. We were there in a group of 6 about a week ago took 4 bottles of wine they charged us $29 corkage.
Don't get Me wrong the food was great but the corkage left a sour taste in our mouth.
Will think twice next time.
Louise
Great friendly service, the Salmon was delicious as we're the other dishes. Can't fault this place and we will be back

Pho isn't served on most days after 5pm. A Vietnamese restaurant that doesn't serve Pho in the evenings? I'm out.
Reddyred
What is service?. Inadequate service characterises this small "Vietnamese" restaurant. ON entering and asking for a table for 5 we were challenged by the girl at the back "Do you have a booking?". Even though the were obviously tables with reserved signs (who uses these these days?) and tables which were empty we were made to feel that if we hadn't booked then we weren't good enough to be here. When we explained that we hadn't we were told there was a table near the door we could have. We looked over and saw some tables outside that had few chairs and a table inside that had the chairs that had a reservation sign on it. My guests didn't won;t to sit donw at a reserved table so I went back to ask about the sign. We were told it was OK to use that table. We wondered what was going to happen when the people who had reserved it showed. Almost immediately we were given wine list and menus and left to choose. Unfortunately we were left for about 20mins and had to ask a waitress if we could order some drinks. The drinks waitress came over. She was young and shy and seemed to have no knowledge of the drinks offered. I watched her as we explained what we wanted and she wrote down on her book our order. I then watched her go to the back counter and talk to the manager and hand him the order. And then we Hung around some more. We were chatting but eventually everyone was looking towards the kitchen to see if our drinks were coming out or had been Hung up. I got up and approached the manager at who was taking an order at the back. When he turned to me I asked if our drinks were coming. He ordered me to sit down and he would come over. When he came I explained that our order was taken and nothing had come out. He went away and came back with his note pad. He explained that the waitress didn't understand the order. This is a lie because 2 pear ciders, 2 lemon lime and bitters and 1 boags beer is what we asked for and ...well I don't know what she wrote down and handed to the manager for the order but that's a very easy order.
Ok so maybe it's a little difficult because the manager got hung up and brought us 2 apple cider instead of 2 pear cider. One of my party can't tolerate apple so she just drank water. It was getting ridiculous.
The food was passable but flavourless. The spring rolls were old and the rice paper rolls all tasted the same or were all tasteless. When the mains came the waitress couldn't identify what the dish was and had to go back to the kitchen to check what it was so it would go the the right person. All the meals came at different times so the first out got cold. As each course came out she called out the name so we would put up our hands to indicate who it was for. When the stir fry came out the waitress almost tipped it in my lap reaching over the table to hand it to me. I've never seen that before!
We were there an hour and a half before we had our mains. It became a long night and so bad it was amusing. It was a near disaster so this kept it funny and memorable for all the wrong reasons. I'm not sure my friends will be keen next time I make a suggestion where we eat.

Purchased take away, the rice paper rolls were missing critical ingredients such as mint and lettuce. Mint, beef and lime juice salad was just beef and bean shoots. Bland and disappointing food.
Jimbo
Its OK. On a balmy Saturday night it was popular with a buzzy atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable and food portions generous. Service good. The downside is that the Food lacked flavour and did not seem particularly like the Vietnamese I remember from Vietnam.
Mint Julep
Fantastic food !! So fresh. Ordered a deep fried flounder, rice paper rolls and caramalised soy Salmon... Great wine selection too. Going back this weekend

Amazing food. Great food, service and atmosphere... Definitely going back

Delicious. Food was amazing and friendly service. We'll be back !

Yum yum!. Dropped in for a quick lunch - great service, and really nice staff. Spring rolls with beef, taro and wood mushrooms were fantastic, and the combination rice noodles well flavored with all veggies keeping their texture. Companion had chicken ribs with spicy sauce which she said were really nice, but a little hot for her (so my choice next time!) and pho, also spicy and really well flavored.
All that and drinks and change from fifty dollars! Good business lunch! Loved it!

Nothing special...and what prices. I've been to this place three times. The first one we ate in and was excellent. The second and the third I had take-away and it was a disappointment. My lemongrass and chilli squid wasn't too bad but my boyfriend's dish was pretty bland and I could cook it better at home. The prices are way too high for the quality they deliver. You can find much better in the area
Food Traveller
Just Delicious !. We were hungry & hadn't been there for a long time (too long?). The excellent entre plate for 4 was devoured by we three - great range of rolls & dipping sauces. Pho had well spiced broth with lots of content - just perfect for a cold Winter's night. Price-worthy, too. We certainly won't leave it so long in future. The service was friendly and prompt.
The Foodie Couple
My partner and i love this place! The gentleman that served us was lovely and did a great job suggesting his personal favorites. We were seated promptly (we did book in advanced) with a smile. We oredered the rice paper rolls, duck skin and the beef rolls for entrees. Although small servings they were a perfect size to snack on while we decided our mains. The duck skin stuffed with prawns were delightful in both taste and texture with an elegantly thin crunch. The beef rolls were delicious and a must try! The enteees came out surprisingly fast considering how busy they were. For mains we ordered the crispy skin chicken, lemongrass and chilli rockling fillets and the saigon rose claypot rice. We recommend the Saigon rose claypot rice as a great winter warmer. Its packed with prawns, asian sausages, bbq pork and other delicious goodies with a fried egg on top! Thankfully the crispy skin chicken wasn't oily and the rockling melted in the mouth with bursts of lemon grass. We will be back to try the rest of the menu!

Have been frequenting Saigon Rose on chapel street for 6+ years - food & service has never faltered even slightly. Every person we take for dinner always raves about the food & returns again with friends.
the "Saigon rose salted squid" is heaven as well as the salmon / asparagus spring rolls.
Yayita
Yum. We stopped here by chance and ordered the rice paper rolls and wontons, followed by the salted squid, mongolian chicken and rice. it was absolutely beatiful, delish, succulent, perfectly cooked, tasty. our host and hostess were lovely and genuinely warm, the service was impeccable, the restaurant was lovely, clean with great music in the background. found this little treasure by chance and will definitely recommend and go back.

Service to brag about.. We had a young guy service us, his energy and humour was excellent. So good in fact I can't remember what I ate.

Although I do recall the food being quite good.

Consistently good. One of my local haunts, eaten here over 10 times and it has always been consistently good...

Excellent. Stopped by here on a whim - and very pleased with the result. From start to finish the service was excellent by all staff. The duck skin entree was magic, could have eaten ten of them. Salmon and asparagus spring rolls to die for. The prawn and pork coleslaw was fresh, light and had a lovely dressing that didn't overpower the vegetables. Mains was braised pork belly on wombok. A little light on the pork however the sauce was delicious. The wombok was cooked in a butter sauce which was divine. They have a large wine list and also some Vietnamese beers such as Huda. It was a great experience, but get there early as it can become somewhat noisy. Looking forward to my next visit.

Felt more like an up market cafe than a restaurant, having said that the food was excellent, however not traditional Vietnamese. Well priced, friendly staff, could be our new regular

Good food, good service. The only complaint that I have is, we were waiting for 1 hr from the time it was suppose to open. I called Saigon but no answer. We than found a note advising they won't be open til later at night. Very disappointing!!

Good service, excellent food. The salt squid was delicious, as was the Claypot rice. Definitely recommended.

I felt like a nice vietnamese soup but couldn't see myself trying to find a park in Richmond where all the good soup is, so went here instead. The soup was lovely, and the staff very obliging to add extra's as requested. Great to have a reliable vietnamese option this side of the yarra.

Bland and slow.. See title.

Interesting restaurant, great customer service but very westernized and the customer in the restaurant can show people it. Food was alright, fish sauce wasn't the best alongside the restaurat. 3.5/10 stars Customer service 4/5 Drinks 5/5

Love Saigon Rose. The fresh, delicious food at this Vietnamese eatery is just so good - and amazingly consistent. I've never had a bad meal there. It's true, we're not that adventurous! We can't get beyond the best spring rolls of all time & the delicious rice paper rolls. Some chicken coleslaw, some salt & pepper squid. We've been a number of times now and took some mates from Sydney a few weeks back. They raved and we agree!

Passable, but not that great. After a lackluster experience at Hanoi Hannah earlier in the week, I decided to give this place a try which is just around the corner.

For the first course I had the prawn spring rolls. It was well fried, but the filling was too salty for my tastes. The salt content even overpowered the nuoc mum dipping sauce which is already salty from the fish sauce.

For the mains I had the beef pho combination (with everything). Well it appears 'everything' here is slice beef, beef brisket and some beef balls. Although missing other offally good parts like the tendon and stomach, I would have found this acceptable if not for the small serving size. I think this would be equivalent to a small size found in Richmond/Springvale/Footscray.

Again I would have forgiven the small size if it had tasted better. Although the noodles we nice and slippery (Hanoi Hannah had hard undercooked noodles) and the soup was hot, the taste of the soup was super bland. I could not detect any aromatics normally found in pho stock. Only some leftover fish sauce from my spring rolls gave this pho and sign of life. For $10, I wasn't that impressed.

The highlight of my meal would have been the dessert. I saw someone else order what looked like an affogato but it was actually ice cream with Vietnamese coffee poured over it. Absolutely delicious.

Overall, I think I have given up on my search for decent pho close to home. I will stick with more traditional shops for now.

Straight outta saigon. As always, absolutely delicious and authentic Vietnamese. try the favourite section on the front page of the menu and anything in XO sauce is always a winner.
the lack of pretentious staff is a winner for Chapel St and just adds to the lovely atmosphere of this institution restaurant.

Worst service ever. I had dinner with two of my friends at Saigon Rose in prahran. The waitress, especially the one named Tram, was really rude. She basically rolled her eyes every time when she was called and was rude when we asked questions. I understand that we are using a scoopon voucher, but it's silly to treat customers like that because we will never go back.
Food was alright. There are nicer and more authentic Vietnamese food elsewhere.
Very disappointing experience.

Yum!. I really enjoyed my meal at Saigon Rose! All the vegetarian foods were delicious, and there were lots of yummy options to choose from. The staff were all lovely, the only downside is that it gets very noisy, especially if you're near a big group!

Having a scoopon voucher was something my fiancé and parents would spend a warm Saturday night together turns ugly, according to the voucher it says booking essential right thou when we got there nearly all tables were empty. we can seat and munch away before those people booked would come in, stil the waiter say no, it doesn't take long for foods arrives so why can't we seat down after searching twenty minute or so finding parking. Thinking of that made me angry especially when it says "booking essential", when clearly should say "booking requires for Saturdays only". Could spend the money of the voucher to head down to springvale and eat than spend it on petrol to get a saying no. Bleh >.

Good food, but so noisy it turns a dinner experience to a nightmare. Will maybe go for take-away but never again for dining in.

That was a HIT. I've been there last week with my girlfriend and I gotta say that their food were AMAZING. Every single dish that brought out was well- prepared. We've had the prawn spring-rolls and fried wontons for entree and they were delicious. Then we have had some special dishes such as Salmon, tamarind duck and boneless duck, they were so good. The staffs were very helpful and very nice to us, they would recommend the good food if we confuse and always smile. I will be come back very very shortly.

Great Food but too Noisey!. Really liked the food at Saigon Rose. Had banana chicken for entrée, which was very tasty. Mongolian chicken and sizzling tofu were both great. Even desert was good. The only downside was it was so loud that I could barely hear my partner speak, even though it was only half full, must just be down to the layout.

After reading the good reviews here, i thought i give it a try, but I'm left feeling very disappointed. The rice vermicelli wrap in lettuce was good but the lamb fillets was too rich and salty, banana chicken was mediocre. We ordered soup noodle but was brought fried noodles instead and they didn't want to change it. The worst dish was the fried rice with the RAW prawns on it. We told the waiter the prawns were raw but he insisted they're not, even though they tasted like jelly and translucent in colour. Not happy at all.

Never had a bad experience here besides in my excitement knocking a sizzling plate off my table. Oops, rather embarrassing. Loved every dish I've tried here- banana chicken, cantonese beef, Mongolian lamb, chilli lemon grass chicken are all faves. Always leaving this place content. Highly reccomend it.

Great Chapel St Restaurant. This place is fantastic and does the tastiest Vietnamese for very reasonable prices. The only criticism I have of it is that their corkage fee is through the roof at $8 per bottle. Their glasses of wine are also expensive at around $9 which is very disappointing. It doesn't stop me from returning but it would be fantastic if they could change their alcohol pricing.

Maybe I got wrong dishes. Chicken noodle soup - tiny serving.. Not the normal rice noodles for vietnamnese rice noodle soups.. Surprised they don't have beef noodle soup.
Fried stuff were very nice... Fresh and crispy.. Spring rolls and squid were very nice.. Maybe I should try some rice dishes..

One of my favourites in the Prahran/Windsor area. Love the rice vermicelli with grilled pork for lunch, Also recommend the chicken with chilli and lemongrass.

Delicious & authentic every visit!. If you haven't tried saigon rose, you surely are missing out! The dishes are to die for, not like any other vietnamese restaurant - this place is more classy then those found in richmond on victoria street. The service and staff are attentive and are friendly. The menu will amaze especially a couple of my favourite on the entree which include the duck skin prawn, stuffed chicken wing, delicious vietnamese spring rolls and soft shell crab. For main my absolute favorite is the salmon with a special caramalised sauce - an must! If going to this restaurant, recommend to book in advance because it can get quite busy even on the weeknights. A gem of a find on victoria and chapel street locations for a great night out with friends or a casual relaxed dinner for 2. Will be visiting again very shortly!!

Great Vietnamese. The place is always packed, and the tables are small and very close to one another. However the service is efficient enough to make up for it.
The food is enjoyable, but some courses with chicken or duck pieces were littered with bones. The "Asian coleslaw" was superb, the fried rice and the noodles were a hit. As for price, it came out well below $30 a head with too much food left over, and this included drinks! How do they do this?

Missed the first 5 minutes of our movie to finish our meal, and it was worth it.. Had dinner at Saigon Rose before catching a movie at the Astor. We had a '$39 for $100 worth of food' voucher. We ordered only vego dishes and they were just awesome. $100 was more than enough to cover a meal and a few drinks for the 3 of us. The meal was excellent and i'd go back again and happily pay full price for the same meal.
