Review Patee Thai Restaurant - Prahran

Laura & Alex Home cooked meals!
We ordered delivery. We are amazing cooks and expect nice food when I order delivery or eat out, it’s during a pandemic restaurants are closed for dine in. This is when restaurants really need to make sure there food is great! We ordered satay chicken skewers they where the best thing in this meal 🥺. The garlic and chive dumplings are just deep fried bland no taste way so ever! The rice noodles with beef is meant to be pad see ew. On the phone she offered vermicelli noodles or the fat rice noodles. I said traditional fat pad see ew noodles. It arrived with these thin over cook noodles it was awful. Thai chicken fried rice. Was bland no flavour. I have walked past a number of time and said I really want to try this restaurant it’s a shame it’s not nice!

I went with my friend last night for dinner at 9ish they told us after some minutes they were closing in 10 minutes however we haven’t finished our dinner. Ten minutes later the waitress approached us and said they had closed. We still hadn’t finished our dinner and once my friend finished, the waitress took away the plates in a very rude way not allowed us to drink the water. The service was very rude specially for the waitress. We recommend you to work in the customer service experience.

Delicious and authentic Thai food served by lovely staff. If you can, try requesting to sit upstairs in the lounge area, it's a great dining space with beautiful cushions for those happy to sit cross-legged.
Alexander Lee
Look it's not the world's best Thai food but it's pretty darn good, affordable, venue reminds me of some of the more fun places I went to when living in Thailand. You'll have a lot more fun here than the over priced posh joints.

So glad I discovered this place. They have an upstairs section with cushions, dim lighting and decor that provides comfort and relaxation whilst you dig into exceptionally delicious Thai cuisine. We ordered the roti, chicken satay skewers, rice, prawn spring rolls, red curry seafood, pad prik khing pla and chicken pad Thai. The roti and pad prik khing pla was the highlight. The broth of the curry was also very tasty! Highly recommend getting a few plates to share. The service was also exceptional. The gentleman serving our table was very attentive and did some great upselling. Perfect place for a chill date on the upstairs cushions or a dinner party with a few friends. They also have tables if you prefer.

This small intimate restaurant have a cozy romantic vibe. The food is very average, especially the chicken dish that we ordered which tasted like a lemon chicken. Perfect for a date if you not specifically looking for authentic Thai. Food - 5 Service - 7 Vibe - 8 Price - $$$

Updated review (2022): bland main and the ‘dumplings’ are deep fried with no flavour. Disappointing. Will not be ordering again through MenuLog. My old review (2018): Quality fresh ingredients, tasty authentic Thai and delivered hot through MenuLog. Would recommend Patee Thai.

Love the pad thai with prawns. It’s an interestingly old venue. The staff were attentive and friendly. They also have a good selection of Thai beers.
Jeff
We just got dinner from here on Uber eats. Most of it went straight into the bin. Entrees were ok but the mains felt as though they couldn’t care less.
Kate Long
This is our go-to spot when we're craving authentic Pad Thai. Tastes just like we're sitting in Thailand! We've had a few other dishes which are nice, but the Pad Thai is the true winner here. And the portion size for the price is an excellent value.

This small intimate restaurant have a cozy romantic vibe. The food is very average, especially the chicken dish that we ordered which tasted like a lemon chicken. Perfect for a date if you not specifically looking for authentic Thai

Quick fix for weekday dinner

Booked a table and received confirmation. After arrive have been told it's fully booked and sent us away without even try to solve the problem. Based on the manager's explanation, he didn't check his mobile so he missed our booking 😂😂

Patee thai is really nice. Generous serving sizes, a really nice, intimate space, and gorgeous décor.
The food is very consistent, too - I've tried the pad thai, the green curry, the duck curry (delicious!) - but a standout for me was the Chicken Galangal soup.
This dish is really tasty!

Service is wonderful, too - very friendly, very attentive and efficient. Definitely going back!

I have had many positive experiences at this restaurant, however after tonight’s visit I will never ever be returning.
Myself and my 3 friends went out for a quiet yet small dinner as we were not extremely hungry and were told to leave the restaurant or pay a ridiculous fee per head as we supposedly
Did not order enough. I personally feel like I have been body shamed for not ordering up to there standards. The waiters were extremely rude and we are highly unimpressed. Instead of this visiting this poor establishment I would highly recommend Thai to Go - next door. Sort yourselves out and enjoy never receiving my business again
Lily Martin
The staff were really rude and made us leave when the restaurant wasn’t full only because we ordered a meal that was considered ‘cheap’ - absolutely disrespectful, cannot believe how I was treated after raving about this place! Will never return x

Amazing food and top hospitality from the owner! It's family owned and run so you know you're in for a great feed!

We had the Prik Khing Fish, Pad Thai, Mango Chicken and Green Curry. Highly recommend the Fish and Pad Thai. Will definitely be back to try other dishes. Thanks Patee Thai for a pleasant night :)

Was very busy during Sunday night so decided to pass and came back Monday night.

Arrived at 6pm and there were already customers

The owners were accommodating and we ordered the duck curry, fish fillet and pat Thai .

Duck 5/5
Fish 3/5
Pat Thai 4/5

Price was on the slightly expensive for a small serve but it was great with Zomato gold discount.

The taste was defiantly authentic and much care and ingredients were use. The chef cook the dish all within 6-7 min which was amazing quick.

Staff were very friendly .
Dine And Dash
I came here tonight with a group of friends for one of my friend’s birthdays. It was definitely an interesting and enjoyable dining experience. The place is BYO for $2 corkage per person which was very reasonable.

We sat upstairs where we had to take off our shoes and sat on the floor which was really cool.

For entrée, we ordered the Pastry pouch filled with savoury chicken, vegetarian and prawn spring rolls. For mains, we had the Chicken with Mango Sauce, the Calamari with chilli and basil and the Stewed Duck Leg in dark soy and five spices.

The food was sensational. Our favourite dish was definitely the stewed duck leg. The meat simply fell off the bone and it was incredibly tender and succulent. The sauce that accompanied the meal was beautiful and zesty. The Chicken with the mango sauce was yummy but make sure to order rice with it, otherwise it’s a bit plain.

The customer service was fantastic! Because it was my friend’s birthday, they brought out a dessert and sang happy birthday which was awesome.

We cannot wait to return here - we loved it.

Consistently good food and excellent service regardless of how busy the restaurant is. Great for large groups and a really nice vibe to the place.

Our favourite Thai in the area! Always very good food, love the upstairs bit where you can sit on the floor. Byo too which is great. One of our go tos

Came here for dinner with a few friends the food and overall abundance was great. The food was immensely amazing and definitely tasted quite authentic. The coconut rice was my favourite along with the satay sticks you definitely can’t go wrong with that. The food was super quick to come out I was surprised? Make a booking next time otherwise they like to throw you out within 1 hour.

Visited with a group of friends. Food here is really good. The moment we walked in we got looked after but reccomend booking a table due to the fact we didnt have a reservation and when we got there we had to finish our food within 1 hour, which was plenty of time but if you wanna continue to sit and socialise you would have needed to make a reservation. Overall really nice authentic thai food. Highly recommend.

I used to live in Prahran and have passed Patee Thai so many times without a thought of going in. When my mum was visiting from Malaysia she wanted to have some food from home so we ordered a Pad Thai from here. Although the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is ok the pad Thai was not at all what she/we expected. The vegetables were off and the taste just wasn't there and the noodles were stoggy. Needless to say, we weren't impressed. Although I can see how maybe it was the wrong thing to go for from the menu I though that this being presumably one of the more popular dishes ordered that it'd be good but it wasn't and instead was disappointing.

I'm not sure I'd ever go back after that first impression and experience however I have had friends say they enjoy visiting as the place is BYO and are very flexible with alterations to the menu if there are any dietaries etc.

The two waitresses were very welcoming and always around. Due to preference, I choose to drink water and they both kept filling my glass with cold water.
Now, the food...
Prawn crackers with peanut sauce: Crackers had rather dark colour than usual. Waiter has told us that it is the original prawn crackers where no cheap colouring used. They were thicker. The peanuts in the sauce were chunky and not smooth. It felt a bit heavy.
Chicken skewers with peanut sauce: Chicken was chewy and not juicy at all. I guess the pieces were thin and once heated, it hardened rapidly.
Tom yum soup: The ingredients in it was not the best quality. Tomato was soft and lost its hardness, oyster mushrooms used. The broth was dense and not clearer than usual. It tasted good with lemon grass flavour.
Chilli chicken and calamari: Found both to be successful.
Coconut rice: As expected. Just right.

I might return another time but skip entree.
The Hungry Vegan
Patee Thai was the perfect choice for a saturday night dinner with friends. The staff were incredibly attentive, great vibe and delicious food! Added bonus that they allow BYO wine. We had the vegetarian red curry, vegetarian pad thai, green curry puffs and spring rolls. Oh and ofcourse a side of roti. Could not fault the taste, absolutely loved it! Will definitely go back again.
Molly
Consistently good food! I recommend making a booking if you're looking to sit at a table, otherwise you'll need to head upstairs and sit on the floor, shoes off, traditional style. It's cute, but a little distracting for a work dinner when you're trying to avoid awkwardly touching your manager's foot under the table!

The curries are fantastic - I always go for the traditional red and green and with coconut rice to share, and they are filling and tasty. I don't really love most of the entrees as I find them to be similar quality to cheaper Thai take-away places - it's not a bad thing, but I was hoping for more flavour and better presentation considering how good the mains are.

The service is very good and the wait staff are sweet and polite. I really recommend this place for a catch-up with friends or for a casual date night.
Karin
Best Thai food I have eaten outside of Thailand. Can’t get enough of their food. There Tom Yam soup is amazing. Do be careful, spicy, does means spicy here!
Maia Kate
Went here recently before a night out at the movies. The dishes are lovely and the staff attentive; the main draw for us though is definitely the decor and the ambiance. I don't know anywhere else in Melbourne quite like it and highly recommend it for a date night or an intimate dinner with friends. They allow BYO as well, which is always a bonus.
Ellie Freeman
My favourite Thai takeaway! Excellent coconut rice - a sign of a good Thai place, in my opinion. I always get the beef and basil stir fry which is generous with sauce and vegetables.
Linda
Enjoyable place. Lovely and comfortable space. Great service. Good authentic Thai food like the good old days before “contemporary Thai with a western spin” came onto the scene. Reasonably priced too. Booking was a breeze with Zomato.
Julian
These guys have been around for ages and they’re always consistent, I haven’t had any bad experiences from here and I’ve been going for years. I recommend!
Ethical Hedonist
Warm cozy restaurant to come to on a drizzly winter evening. The food is delicious, and they add a decent amount of extra spice if asked! Service was friendly and efficient, and there were a decent number of ethical options on offer.
Liam Poole
Can't get over the atmosphere, fantastic food every time I've come by and I would for sure suggest sitting upstairs! All top quality Thai menu!
April_eats
Went on a busy Friday night, quick and friendly service, there are a few choices for seating, upstairs/downstairs and normal table and chairs or sitting in the floor on cushions. Really nice decor and atmosphere, almost felt like you weren’t in Melbourne anymore. Great choices on the menu and a small specials board (the crispy chicken was amazing and crispy) we shared a few dishes and I couldn’t fault anything. We had the lamb massaman, the duck leg, roti and coconut rice. Will be back again with more friends! Oh and it was BYO, $2-4 per person I think!

April 2018
Back again with a large group, sat downstairs this time. Great service and great food. Everything was so tasty! We shared a lot of dishes between us and it’s great value for money, will be back again!
Spicelog
My favourite Thai restaurant in Melbourne. Not a fan of driving into the city but a nice Sunday dinner is great. Massaman curry is my favourite dish here
The Darth Zader
Came here with a friend and we ordered a red curry with duck and a chicken pad Thai. Both dishes were very tasty. Service was excellent. If I’m in the mood for Thai food I would not hesitate to come back again.
Laura Kaziavin
My favorite Thai restaurant in Melbourne! Delicious food and cheap booze, nuff said.

Place is a bit tight as the space is quite small, but the food and friendly service make up for feeling cramped.

Wish I didn’t move to the West side so I can come here more often!

Liz
The food itself is standard, enough for you to have your Thai fix but it's not mind blowing. Service is always great. I love the experience of being in the restaurant because I am really immersed in the culture and hospitality of Thailand.
Jessica Cook
Good feed, standard Thai Food though wouldn't mind seeing them try to do something creative, fit out has been the same for along time and is getting stale, but still a decent feed.
Doran
This is a fairly good Thai restaurant on Chapel Street where are tons of food choices. The dishes are good enough to make you come back, but not incredible enough to make you crave it in your dreams. The Tom Yum Soup is really nice. The green curry had lots of ingredients in it but needed more basil and depth of flavour. The mango chicken was surprisingly tasty and had a bit of a kick to it.
Gary
A reliable regular for us. Having scouted around the Inner E/SE Melbourne suburbs for Thai, we keep returning to Patee Thai Windsor. Pleasant, courteous and knowledgeable staff. Timing can adjust to our request - not always common at Thai places. As for the food? This is what draws us back the most, with the depth, breadth and height of flavours that Thai can deliver with quality, fresh ingredients. The vegetable matching is abundant, combining with other elements for a richness and texture that most Thai places don't provide. The ambience could be described as a bit dull and aged, but somehow it works in this traditional setting. Strongly recommended dishes include the Chicken Satay and Roast Duck Curry. We prefer sitting at the tables with chairs downstairs. Recommended Thai!
Brightgarden
Very friendly and courteous staff and was very happy with entree and mains (delicious massaman) but give the desserts a miss as they were very disappointing, not only were they poorly executed (our group ordered one of each) but since when does anybody garnish a dessert with PARSLEY, let alone a Thai dessert.
Ypmurc
We found the food here delicious and pricing is very reasonable. We ordered take away and the food came quite quickly but I have eaten here before and really liked it. Good atmosphere when we were upstairs and sitting on the floor.
Good Food Good Mood
I spied this one night whilst searching for a park en route to Mr Miyagi and the next time the Thai craving struck it was top of mind. Up the stairs we went, the shoes came off and we sat on the floor traditional style which made for great ambiance. The food was fantastic too very authentic and reasonably priced. I'll be back
Steph McKinnon
Really authentic and lovely restaurant. Love the traditional seating arrangements. Food is respectable, but nothing blew us away. Prices are also reasonable
Marina Little
Patee Thai is a regular for me. Food is always delicious and the staff are lovely. Great for a group, especially upstairs with the cushions. The duck and massaman curries are faves
Keely
Loved our visit to Patee Thai on Friday night. Great atmosphere upstairs and the service was great even though they were busy. The food came out quickly and every dish was delicious. The green, red and massaman curries were all full of flavor with tender meat and the pork belly was crispy. The stand out however was the Pad Thai! The noodles were cooked perfectly and the taste was perfect. Will definitely come here again.
Tardar Sauce
We went here in summer on a 30+ degree day around 7pm. Upstairs only has fans, no aircon! The food was delicious and not what I would consider pricey. I liked the traditional seating arrangements. Wine was ok, served in a very thick wine glass for some reason. Staff are lovely. We will be returning.
Rachael W
I thoroughly enjoyed my night here, Saturday night! Very lively venue. Sitting upstairs on the cushions was great and all the dishes we ordered were delicious! My favourite was the Paid Thai and definitely the Satay Chicken! Will be back!
Burgers Over Abs
Not sure if this place is real Thai food... coconut rice didn't taste like coconut rice. We got banquet menu 1. Main dishes were delicious. You can skip the entrees it's just fried food. Get the fish cakes though. Staff are friendly. Left happy and full.
Jade Kidd
Love this place. Very consistent food. I've eaten at the restaurant which was nice and a fun experience as you can choose to sit on cushions on the floor and I've ordered it delivered many times. Always great.
JMorris
Usually I find Thai take outs a tad ordinary but this one blew my mind! So delicious and tasty, we ordered a mix of pad Thai, cashew stir fry and curry, would order again in a heart beat!
Lauren K
Good service and food. Great location in the middle of everything on Chapel Street. I would recommend the Pad Thai and shrimp spring rolls.
Dan's Food Adventures
Cracking spot. Request to sit on the cushions upstairs. Pad Thai is a 10/10 and the green chicken curry is a ripper. Top form. Strongly recommended.
Neha
Love this place, the ambience, most importantly the food. Had the massaman lamb which was made to perfection. Also has the best tom yum soup. The grilled chicken is a dish to try for sure. Amazing food and great value for money. A not to miss place! Must try :)
Sharon Tauru #jazalajewels
We enjoyed sitting up stairs on the floor on comfortable Thai cushions which we have done many times in Thailand,so that was a really cool experience. Lovely traditional service & great food.
Sarah Latte
Actually worst thai delivery ever. Ordered the Tom Yum soup. Could not eat it. Lack of flavour was not the issue, the flavour tasted concerntrated and very strong. Long wait for delivery and I live close by.
Daniele
We waited 1:30 for having our meal. I called them and they forgot our reservation!!! The meal are good but never again for us! Better to go there!! And no compensation!!!!
May
Ordered delivery for dinner, came earlier than expected and food was delicious. Lamb massaman curry was tender and spot on. Cashew vegetables were good too.
C W
Absolutly disgusting - worst meal of my life. Gave me prawn spring rolls instead of vegetarian, the red chicken curry was utterly flavourless, the chicken was grey and rubbery and the vegetables had almost disintergrated into mush. The roti was soggy and cold. The entire meal was pretty much inedible. Don't do it.
Melbourne Foodie Memoirs
Favourite Thai in the area for take out and eat in!

Very reasonable prices for delicious food. The peanut sauce is to die for - have it with the prawn crackers or chicken skewers. Our other favourites are the lamb Massaman Curry and the chicken Pad Thai.

It's BYO too!

Take away can be ordered via Menulog.
MelbourneBee
Great Thai restaurant south of the river. Equally good take away/delivery. Masamam curry is a fav. Friendly staff; always a winner. Can get busy; book on the weekends.

My partner and I went to the Prahran restaurant last night...Absolutely beautiful food and great atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure our glasses were always full with water. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves a relaxed atmosphere with good food and wine.
NumNum
The area tends to have restaurants that claim they serve a particular culture dish but usually it involves expensive fusion. Not the case with this place. It's like being back in Thailand. Brilliant food.
Madeleine Scerri
Great selection of traditional Thai dishes with plenty of vegetarian options. Patee Thai has two levels so can really cater to a crowd. We sat at tables however there is an option upstairs to relax on the cushions on the floor with lower tables.

The menu has a range of banquets however our group all ordered individual meals with roti each and a big serve of coconut rice for the table. All of us enjoyed our meals and the decent sized servings.

A great night out with quality food and we were able to BYO wine which was a bonus.
James Mangaliman
Great food and vibe in the restaurant. The food was quite nice, ordered the mango chicken and the fish fillet in sweet chili sauce. Both were delicious. A bit of of a wait on the coconut rice, but overall it was a good experience.
Nicola
Amazing food, the best Thai I have had in a long time. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend to everyone would go back anytime. Delicious!
Kelly Cube
Best pad thai in the south east suburbs. Love this place. The pad has is delicious and high quality. The roti bread was fresh and perfectly cooked and we tried some new thai dishes in the menu. Went last Saturday when the weather was really cold and it was do warm inside and a great atmosphere. As a foodie I give this thai place 5 stars. Highly recommended!
Kate S
I went to Patee Thai last night and we ordered the Tom Yum Goong, green chicken curry and combination seafood with chill bean paste with a serve of coconut rice. I could not fault the food and love the ambience upstairs where we requested to sit on a chair rather than cushions. Unusual to clear my dining companions soup whilst I was still finishing mine, but I think they like to turn tables over quickly. I would definitely recommend and their home delivery in the past takes one hour usually.

Pad Thai. Awesome !
Ines Pedroza
Really happy with this place. Has been great on both delivery front and in-dining.
I highly recommend actually going into the restaurant as it is a very different setting, a very comfortable and cozy atmosphere and overall fun experience.
Really recommend!
Olive Sundays
Patee Thai make a good curry. The ‘chicken green curry’ and ‘lamb massaman’ are my favourites. The green curry has an incredible balance of flavour and is the perfect consistency not too thick, not too runny, it’s just right. The massaman is thick and moreish. It has an intense depth of flavour. The authentic flavours take you straight to Thailand with each mouthful.
Natalieiphone85
Fabulous thai. We love this place! great thai food. green curry and pad thai are to die for!!!
Louise Pride
They forget it every single time!. In terms of food quality and delivery times Patee Thai is pretty reliable.

However...

EVERY SINGLE TIME we order enough to qualify for their free entrée they forget to send it. I enter the option and then they accuse me of not ordering it. One staff member has admitted that there is an issue with their app but the last one rudely hung up on me this evening and I will not be ordering from them again.

Thankfully there are a great many other options in Prahran.
Drose
Slow deliveries, bland food, owner did not care food took 1.5 hours therefor never again!!
Prue
Disappointed Thai lovers. Yes it took 1.5 hours to deliver! And if you like very fatty sweet food or very fatty salty food then you''ll love this restaurant.
Mj
Have ordered from here several times & delivery is ALWAYS very slow. Always nearly two hours after ordering & several phone calls. Not ordering from here again! It's a shame as the food is good.
Mmarory
Unique atmosphere with tasty food.. Food is great, portion size varies depending on meal. Coconut rice is a must have side dish. The place is very exotic in terms of interior. If you go upstairs you are required to take off your shoes and sit on cushioned floor in a very traditional thai style. Definitely do go if you enjoy an authentic thai atmosphere. The lighting is ambient and comforting and the music is not overwhelming. One issue that I do have with the place, is that the waiters/waitresses hang around you while you're eating a little too much. Often pulling plates away before your companions have finished their meals. This can get a little annoying, however I wouldn't deter you from giving the place a go. Food is pleasant and not overpriced.
Bob Marley
Good value, good food. You get your moneys worth here, that's for sure. I ordered the pad thai and it was a heaping big plate. Almost too much for one person. That's what i like to see. Also, it was pretty tasty as well. I didn't find it bland at all. So, the pad thai here passes the test. This is one of my new favourite places.
Deanricho_1999
Festivus - Good Thai. Enjoyed my meal no doubt about it and the service and ambience good
I would call it a safe Thai spot
Reasonable pricing and very good entres
Jessi Alley
Delicious .... Had the prawn spring rolls for entree, they were so tasty, they were actually whole prawns rapped in pastry.... Incredible
The roti was my favourite, dipped in the red chicken curry... Am definitely going back. And is byo too! One of the best Thai in Melbourne I think...
Nancita H
WORST THAI EVER! Got meal delivered and both our chicken dishes were served with raw chicken. Never going back! And not recommending it to anyone.
Blakey2
Delicious. Tried Patee Thai for the first time last night. It didn't disappoint had three mains to share, the red curry, pad Thai and Thai beef salad. All dishes were delicious. We also ordered home delivery they said 45min it was here in 30! Definitely order from there again.
Dave Housden
Always good. My partner and I have dined here on more than 10 occasions and we've always been satisfied. Quick and polite service with fresh and enticing food selections. Highly recommend.
Nath
Horrible! Never recommend! Extremely slow delivery, food was swimming in oil and tasteless. Customer service over phone was rude and unorganised. Multiple phone calls to check order and finally arrived 2hrs late.
ToorakM
Not 87% worthy. I ordered a take away as we have a large pram and couldn't fit into the restaurant which was a shame and we came here as I saw the 87% and thought it must be pretty good to achieve that result yet this place was a shocker.

First, I had a pad see ew vegetarian and it was sitting in a pool of oil. So much oil I poured it out and it filled half a glass. It was virtually inedible as you can't eat that much oil with noodles and the broccoli was soaked as well. Not a good start!

Next was the tofu vegetarian stir fry and again, it was in a pool of oil..... the oil was floating on the top and the tofu were little rubbery bits that were so tough I couldn't eat it.

The chicken cashew stir fry my partner had looked pretty tasty though, yet they never closed the lid and all the sauce was in the bottom of the plastic take away bag! There was lots of chicken and he said it was really good, especially with the coconut rice (which we had to reheat as it was stone cold)

The vegetarian spring rolls were also a bit oily yet were very fresh and full of vegetables. Overall, all the vegetarian meals were covered in way too much oil and maybe because the chicken cashew stir fry leaked all through the bag it avoided being over oily as well.... we won't be coming back.
Georgiecoll
Regret. I ordered from Patee Thai after seeing an 87% on urbanspoon as their rating. DON'T TRUST THE 87%!! It was really poor quality. I didn't you could get a Pad Thai so wrong, but it turns out you can! Tasteless, unnecessarily spicy, poor quality meat. My whole family agreed. I won't be ordering from there again.
Jd
Amazing!!!. Love this place, beautiful food and very nice staff who are very polite. The green curry is amazing. My partner and I always go to this place for a quick bite before a movie. Also BYO is also a bonus!
Melza912
Beautiful authentic thai, great service, gorgeous little restaurant! perfect atmosphere :)
Muse
This place is great. awesome flavour...nice staff. well priced.
DEADX10R
Solid 7/10. Normal pricing, food was tasty and the service was very efficient (almost over enthusiastic, taking plates away when we had just finished entrees). The atmosphere was loud and bustling, which we like, and the food came out quickly and decent portions. I see mixed reviews from others, but we would definitely return, it was good normal Thai food without trying to be too fancy. Drinks were pretty cheap too, so if there's a group of you who want to eat, laugh and make a bit of noise - without breaking the bank, this place is all good!
RachyB
DISAPPOINTING! can't believe this has a high rating. Food was average at best and unpalatable at worst. It wasn't super cheap
Melanie Hargreaves
You can see the spices!. It's always a good sign when you can see the ingredients used. Kaffir lime leaves, cinnamon quills and a big punchy flavour.
It is worth the trip.
Luke
The food is good, the delivery service is appalling! Very rarely do they actually deliver the correct meals! You would think after having to make several trips back to deliver single items left out of the order they would check them before them out!?
Cheen_tea
Yummy. I ordered Prawn Pad Thai and basil and chilli calamari home delivered. Loved it! Especially the calamari. A very happy customer :)
Tracey Wiseman
Ordered a simple prawn Tom yum and pad Thai noodles from Eat Now. Delivery was quick and food very fresh and satisfying. Definitely will reorder!
Toffa24
Thai food for the unadventorous. Jeepers. I can't believe this place gets the scores it does.
I think people are taken by the fact they have to sit on the floor. I never once ate on the floor in my trips to Thailand.
The food is fairly bland really. Its filling and the serving sizes are good. But it is just ok. It certainly isn't a place I would go back to.
If you want flavours with a bit of a kick you are much better off at Colonel Tan's.
Or just go straight to the best - Chin Chin. Prices are about on par with Patee Thai anyway.
Milk Jones
Solid. cute sitting on the .... Solid.
cute sitting on the floor upstairs.
Dominic Buick
Ate dinner here last night for my 38th birthday, very happy with the service and food, very busy but staff were very attentative and food came quickly and was plentiful and delicious, will be sure to return..
Chez
Not coming back!. Mains took nearly an hour (50mins!!) to arrive despite us asking about it a few times. The only good thing is that our entrees arrived quickly. Food was average so was service. Never coming back!
Erika
No to Take Away. I probably dine in next time, as take away wait was rediculous...The soup was sloggy and the Pad-thai was bland. Not happy at all...
Fi_star99
Great atmosphere! Delicious thai food! Friendly, attentive staff. We went here to celebrate a birthday last week with a group of 8. Will defintely be eating here again!
Tina Meimaris
AWESOME FOOD, REASONABLY PRICED!. The food is delicious, especially the pad thai!
Service is great and the staff are very attentive. Definitely worth a try!
Gefgen
Dont go to Prahran. Food is very average and the service is pretty bad. Staff aren't courteous and they kick you out upstairs rather than wait until you finish your meal while there were still a lot of people downstairs . Never ever coming back again . I would rather go somewhere else.
Mark Kottmann
Love the noisy and chaotic atmosphere upstairs where you're sitting on cushions at a low table. Food was really good, I'm a big fan of Thai food to go next door but the food at this place was better and pretty much the same price. Will be back pretty soon.
Fab Food Search
Don't order online. We did at 6:50pm and it is now 8:25 and food still hasn't arrived. Never again.

Average. Not sure what all the hype was about - Patee Thai is your average Thai joint dishing out what seemed to me to be fairly average Thai food. Service was distracted and one of our mains arrived a good ten minutes after the others. Portions are alright for the price but the curries would have benefitted from a bit more meat and the chicken battered with mango sauce was far too heavy. If you're looking for better Thai down these parts, try Welcome Thai on Toorak Rd, Toorak Village - a much better experience.

Fitzroy is better!. Fitzroy>Prahran. It really is. I have been to the Fitzroy one many, many times and after being in the Prahran area one evening I was very disappointed over the sister restaurant.

Love patee thai. We find it hard to try other restaurants in the area as we always want to return here.. Chicken satay entree is in our order every time, and find it hard to pick just 2 mains now as everything is so good. Try the lamb curry, duck curry or the fish fillets...

Best food thai on chapel. Pad thai = incredible. hands down, the easiest meal to order on chapel. you won't be disappointed.

Suggested by a friend. Had satay chicken as entree was amazing! Cooked to perfection and the sauce was better then my mum makes which I thought I would never say. Got the Stewed duck Which was a favorite at my home town but this place managed to top it, perfect meal defiantly recommend!

This place is the bomb...such a shame that is next door to Thai to go!!

Good honest Thai. My wife and I used to come here years ago and haven't been back since we moved to the suburbs over 14 years ago. It hasn't changed. We brought our 16 and 12 year old girls who loved all the dishes. We chose standard dishes - Thai fish cakes were 5 small 50 cent sized portions with a great sauce. They were plump and fresh. Lots of steamed rice for us with the red beef curry and green chicken curry which was hotter than the red. Great flavours and lots of sauce. The Roti was perfect. Pad Thai noodles had tofu and a reasonable amount of large juicy prawns. We were upstairs which is mainly floor seating but we were on tables. If you're on the floor - tip - you have to take your shoes off. The menu is not adventurous - it is safe good reliable tasty Thai with good proportions and in the the very funky, very busy part of town. It's BYO wine and very reasonable.

Best, best, BEST Thai food in Melbourne! Inexpensive and authentic, the Red Curry is a must-have. I went here the day I got back from Thailand and the food was just as good!

Patee Thai. Great restaurant for a girls night out. Bring your own wine, sit upstairs on the cushions on the floor and enjoy tasty thai fare. The cashew prawns are delicious, nice medium spice levels, good flavour, perfectly cooked crunchy vegetables and juicy prawns. Its cheap and cheerful here and most will enjoy.

Disappointed, would not order online again.... I have had two revolting meals delivered courtesy of Patee Thai of late. After first receiving a lukewarm Tom Yum soup with three prawns and raw mushrooms floating in it, I decided to give them a second chance. This time they got my order wrong. To their credit this was sorted by the restaurant in record time, and the food arrived hot for a change. I used to order from Patee Thai all the time but won't be doing so again - their standards have dropped dramatically.

Long lived favorite! Always great food, never let down in consistency and quality. Very friendly staff and a grey authentic Thai feel to the place. And great prices too.. one to try, coriander chicken omg amazing!

Very average.. We ordered take-away on a Sunday night, found the whole meal to be very average. Have had better Thai from a food court. Considering the number of Thai restaurants in the area, I won't bother trying again.

Revolting food. What else can I say??!! Very disappointed and wonder who are those people that like it?

One of the best Thai meals that I've had for a long time. Loved the smokey flavoured Asian Greens & the Lamb Massaman.

Average..... I ordered from here last night - a mixed enteee and the chilli seafood - whilst the food wasn't too bad at the time I had a very uncomfortable sleep and morning because of it - and I'm no stranger to spicy food so it seems to me that something is amiss here - same thing was reported by a girlfriend who ate there last week - proceed with caution!

Average establishment

You wouldnt like it, you wouldnt dislike it. It's one of those joints where you d go "oh yeah i know one, fairely close, ok food" and just head down for a meal.

All curry dishes are just too sweet.

Best Thai food ever! The coconut rice alone is worth a visit, and the staff are just so friendly and attentive. Sit upstairs. Love It!

Patee Time!. Delicious food, good portions, friendly staff. Better to BYO and dont wear expensive shoes or socks with holes in them as you have to de-shoe when dining upstairs.
Great environment, one of my favourite restaurants.

Really friendly staff and a great atmosphere! meal was delicious and tasted just like the food i had in thailand - the pad thai noodle with prawn tasted particularly authentic. will definitely visit again!

A local favorite...keep it quiet.. Choose a nice bottle of viogner or moscato from a nearby bottle-o, then head upstairs and kick back with friends. Sit on the ground on Thai pillows and contemplate your existence over ridiculously cheap yet fantastic thai food. Always a pleasure.

Amazing. This place is amazing! The service was superb and the food was plentiful and tasty. I will definitely be returning.

Bland. Found this thai food to lack spices that usually make or break a thai dish.. Possibly because we got take away. But still did not have the zing most thai places should have.

Never had a bad experience here, food is served quickly within about 15 mins we were served everything at once. Calamari was soft and all vegetable fresh. The Asian greens and pad Thai are a must

Standard Thai fare. Not fantastic, not bad. Pretty good Thai food. They were very accommodating to a late walk-in with no booking. We had the Gang Pet Ped Yang (duck red curry) and Pad Prik Khing (fish with curry paste, vegetables and lime) plus coconut rice. The duck curry was a bit disappointing as it contained thin, chewy slices of duck (breast?) rather than chunks of roast duck which is what I was expecting. The fish was tasty. The accompanying coconut rice was good too - not gluggy.
