Review Middletown - Prahran

James Milburn
I had mother's day breakfast/brunch here and enjoyed the overall experience. Food was reasonably priced and decent portions, however the coffee came out slowly and was just at a comfortable drinking temperature and could have been a little hotter. I can't blame this on the staff, however, as there were only 3 floor staff on during what seemed to be a slammed Sunday brunch service. Working in hospo, I know how hard it is right now to find good staff and I wish the best for this venue.

Super cute Café with great food options and friendly staff. I had the mix of mushrooms breakfast and wow, such a great portion that I couldn’t finish. Also choose a delicious dessert- which got my attention by the picture on socials - and it was sooooo good! Totally worthy ✨ I do recommend

Had my Sunday breakfast here. Loved my avocado on sourdough toast, with a side of poached eggs and potato hash. The staff was friendly. They have tables at the window, making it a perfect place even if you are solo dining: will strongly recommend middletown!

I am lodging a formal request to be adopted by the chef here. 🙏🙏🙏I am a model child I make my bed I tidy my room, I have good jokes. I just need biscoff pancakes every morning that is all. please just consider it at least.

Middletown continues to evolve with a great menu and consistent coffee. Winter 2022 menu brings familiar, but still tasty, fare to the cafe including the following items: 1. Pressed Lamb - Juicy and tender lamb shoulder flavoured with onion, garlic and pressed into a neat parcel rests on a bed of spiced Turkish rice. A simple, lightly dressed bean tendril salad, with slivers of pickled onion, helped to balance the unctuous flavours from the lamb and rice that also paired well with the lemon dill yogurt. Thoroughly enjoyable and feels like a warm hug. 2. Beef burger - Generously sized burger with all the typical trappings including bacon, American cheese, and a special house-made sauce. The ground beef patty is well seasoned and succulent with hints of garlic and paprika. Paired with crispy chips dusted with the secret house seasoning, a very well put together burger that didn't disappoint. =========================================================== (Winter 2021) is absolutely delicious and I have tasted (and highly recommend!): 1. Steak frites - Perfectly cooked, flavourful and tender rump steak with a delicious - but ultimately not neessary - peppercorn sauce and logs of crunchy and fluffy chips. 2. Chicken burger - ASMR-friendly crispy coated fried chicken with a tangy 'slaw. Southern-style flavours and well seasoned chicken a true delight. 3. Croque Madame - Wonderfully decadent sandwich that will put you in a food coma - only remedied by their expertly made coffees. ===========================================================

Couldn’t get into my cafe of choice so thought I would give this one a go. I was attracted to the light and open space and got a table straight away. Service was efficient, coffee and watcher quickly if not overly friendly. The fresh juice was delicious however the food a bit too over done with the flavour. Too rich and oily for my taste and just not balanced. The bacon on my role was chewy and but the eggs good. The pulled pork oily. So a good place, but not great. With a few tweaks to the menu this could be so much better.

A posh brunchery with belly-warming meals and coffee. The decoration is so well-lit, simple yet so elegant. Its royal navy blue + white + bronze brass color palette is inspired by the Duchess of Cambridge herself. Favorite brunch menu: anything with brioche or toast, delicious until the last bite!
Edwar Kartio
Modern with plenty of natural lights and numerous seats. The menu felt like a fusion of Asian and Western dishes. The dishes are well presented but lacking the execution in terms of taste. They got the texture right but food tasted bland especially the rice bowl and the chicken. Food - 6 Service - 8 Vibe - 10 Price - $$$

I took my friend for brunch last weekend and it was a huge disappointment. Terrible burnt food and atrocious service. Worst Cafe we have ever been to in Prahran. Overall nothing special about this restaurant and did not live up to the hype. There are certainly much better places to get a good breakfast, brunch or lunch in Prahran. One of my worst restaurants experiences especially when the food and service was not very good for what they charge for that kind of money.
Janet Ashworth
Had a very pleasant lunch here. Its good to find a place that gives good GF options and doesnt charge like a wounded bull. I had an excellent burger, which i have’t had in such a long time. The coffee was good and the staff all very friendly.
Julie Tuffee
Beautiful crisp blue and white decor that sets it apart from the norm. Great service from friendly staff. Good value and tasty duck on the lunch menu. I like that you can order both lunch and breakfast all day!

Middletown is a classy fit out but the food and service doesn't match. Slabs of bacon rather than crispy strips of bacon tells us that there are pretentious cooks - certainly not chops - in the kitchen. The menu has one salad - boring old quinoa. This is so lazy and unimaginative. We asked for 2nd cups of coffee which took so long to come that we thou they must have been picking the beans. It's all very well to have a classy fit out but if the food and service don't come up to standard, you will be closing the doors quicker than you think.

In love with the interior design, from the lighting, flower decoration to the royal blue & white wall. The menu is great, food is delicious and the staff are lovely. Literally got me at "we serve matcha". Middletown definitely have just become my favourite spot for brunch!

Stylish new café, happily not on Chapel Street. Love the crisp blue and white décor and design details, The menu lists some very interesting dishes that are not being done elsewhere and I'm looking forward to working my way through it. The waiter staff were friendly and attentive, but being the first day, just a little disorganised, which was totally ok. Only had a light snack today ( filled baguette ) which was excellent, and a perfect Latte.

I love the food and its coffee. Their homemade Hot chocolate also beautiful and yummy. Worth the price. The design of the place is simple yet warm..

Best food ive experienced in Melbourne just a little bit more seasoning is all id say chef on those fluffy amazing eggs and avocado perfection

Went based on venue's instagram fame (literally). Really enjoyable breakfast and a great vibe and style to the cafe itself.

A touch of class in your day. The waiting staff will make you feel like you entered a 5 star hotel. The luxe menu keeps its promisse and your meal is delivered looking healthy and delicious with multiple layers of interest to you tasting palette.

Loved my coffee & breakfast was so on point!!!

Classy cafe off chapel street. Feels like walking into a 5 star restaurant. Beautiful blue & white walls. Elegant but simple decor. Menu is sophisticated & lists dishes that are fresh and healthy. Definitely our new brunch spot.

Great service. Great Atmosphere. Fantastic presentation of food. Small menu. Food wasn't anything to rave about. I probably wouldn't return in a hurry. Sorry Middleton.
Brooke Dellios
The staff were lovely and attentive to myself and 8 month old baby. The food was good quality and yummy but I think the lunch dishes are too restaurant-like rather than cafe-like. Coffee was good too!
Julie Anne Longano
Exceptional service and the food was just as good. Not over priced either. They catered well to my friend and I (and our two kids who needed high chairs). A lovely experience in an area often renowned for snobby cafes (in my view) this was refreshingly lighter.
Bianca Ush
Great dining experience!!! I had the confit duck and it was amazing, tender and juicy!! The black waffles are outta this world! Can't wait to return!

I love coming here , the food is delicious and the staff is always friendly.

Modern with plenty of natural lights and numerous seats. The menu felt like a fusion of Asian and Western dishes. The dishes are well presented but lacking the execution in terms of taste. They got the texture right but food tasted bland especially the rice bowl and the chicken.

We went to this beautiful cafe located at Prahran, it has a good ambience and friendly staff. Loved the food we ordered 😊

Beef Brisket : 😍 Amazing <br/>Seared Mackerel : 😁 Great <br/>Eton Mess Waffles : 😁 Great <br/>Coffee : 😍 Amazing <br/><br/>Beautiful cafe with a beautiful interior. Absolutely loved the Beef Brisket as it just melted in your mouth and it was paired with super crispy fries. Seared Mackerel was also delicious but it had a strong ‘fishy’ taste to me but that’s more of a personal opinion. Loved the Eton Mess Waffles. Stunning presentation and all the elements of the dish worked well together including the balsamic glaze surprisingly.

Middletown is a beautifully light, relaxing environment for a weekend brunch in the heart of Prahran. The decor is modern and it's quite a classy brunch spot.<br/><br/>I ordered the Avocado which was a great dish. Loved the addition of the charred corn and it being served on pumpkin toast - it set it apart from typical smashed avocado dishes. <br/><br/>Will definitely be back to try the Duck and Waffles, they looked great!
Mel
Dark hot chocolate was smooth and rich. It is a good option for someone who prefers something less sweet. Latte was alright.<br/><br/>👍🏻👍🏻: Poached eggs were really well cooked. Friendly staff. Loved that they have crumpets as an option for eggs on toast.<br/><br/>Neutral: Hollandaise was a little bland<br/><br/>🙁🙁: The potato hash was a little bland and quite dry. 10% surcharges on Sundays - will avoid coming here on Sundays and PH

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Coffee verdict: Middletown is a beautiful cafe - love the shade of navy blue that they use. They also serve pretty good coffee. Using code black coffee beans, my skinny flat white wasn’t too milky. Would be back if I’m in the area!

A classy local establishment, which pays homage to the stylish female role model that is the former Miss Middleton herself.<br/>Food is well prepared and beautifully presented on nice white plates. The drinks are yummy and the Coffee is of a high quality.<br/>Staff are friendly. A lovely light filled cafe for you to have a relaxed weekend brunch at.
Steve Levon
Good food and good service - that all I've really got to say about it. I didn't even remember to take a photo of the food - we both had the baked eggs with mushrooms which was yum. The venue is very nice looking with clean lines. Can't really say the same for the table we were seated at which definitely needed a clean from the previous customers (it was all sticky).

Stumbled by Middletown after the line was too long at Fourth Chapter.<br/><br/>Ordered:<br/>🍄 Mixed Mushroom (v): roasted medley mushroom in garlic and thyme, fresh heirloom tomatoes, crumbled Milawa blue cheese, walnuts and fried egg ($19.00)<br/>☕️ Chai Latte with soy milk (v): ($4.50)<br/><br/>Review:<br/>In the Mixed Mushroom dish, I was scared the blue cheese would be too powerful. But Middletown crumbled it, giving it that just right cheese taste 👍.<br/><br/>The fried enoki mushroom gave me life, while the assorted mushrooms with tomatoes was fun. Add in a more solid base texture from the bread and unify it all with fried sunny side up egg.<br/>Overall, an easily enjoyable dish inside Middletown's very clean, big, aesthetic environment!<br/><br/>Service was pretty friendly - and readily attentive for such a large place. It wasn't difficult to flag them down at all.

Came for a Sunday brunch and found the cafe to be very noisy. Eggs on toast were yummy and service was good. Lovely modern interior and easy parking for Prahran area.

Tried the mixed mushrooms dish and it was delicious. They do good coffee too. Friendly and prompt service. Would like to return to try the other dishes.

Friendly service, attentive barista who came to serve me. Had the Coconut and Blueberry Pancake with almond latte, a combo which will never go wrong. Yummy brekkie and strong coffee, go get ‘em here if that’s how you like to start your morning.

Food Rating: 😀💗5/5<br/>Atmosphere Rating: 5/5<br/>Service Rating: 👏 5/5<br/><br/>One of the best cafe's I've been to in Melbourne! As soon as you walk in, the place is large, clean and crisp, and the staff are super friendly as well (they were lovely enough to extend my reservation for an hour!). The interior is beautiful (deserving of their title of one of the 'most instagrammable cafes' in Melbourne), and their food is amazing as well. I ordered their mixed mushrooms dish and it was by far one of the best I've tried, would definitely go again to try their duck waffles!

Was keen to try this place out after hearing it was run by the same team behind Operator25 in the city; which is a personal favourite cafe of my partner and I’s. It’s a bright, open medium sized space with lots of seating - didn’t need to line up for once which was great! Service was attentive and fast. <br/>Ordered an iced matcha, the mushrooms and the duck and waffle. All the food was fresh, well flavoured and well balanced. I especially enjoyed the bits of blue cheese scattered throughout my mushroom dish as it provided a nice contrasting flavour. The duck was slightly dry but the skin was crispy, and the waffle was done well.

Immediately upon walking in I was greeted by such friendly staff. The atmosphere of the cafe is light and bright and made the perfect spot to sit and work. I decided to order their hazelnut french toast and matcha latte. It was extremely tasty. My only criticism I want more 😁

Lots of space, great decor and wonderful friendly service. Only slight down fall was the coffee and lack of parking in the area but overall happy with the experience! Pic of the pancakes and smashed peas- both a delish choice!

When the interior is as chic and modern as Middletown- with bold navy blue panels going along the walls and clean yet simplistic seating arrangements, you’d almost expect the food to match these high standards set by the decor and interior design. Thankfully, the food was not only delicious, but even the plating up of the dish was impressive too. <br/>Accompanied with a flat white coffee, my partner and I ordered the Trio mushrooms and eggs benedict. We’ve had our fair share of eggs benny dishes over the years of brunching, and I can confidently say this one certainly places quite high up in the ladder. The soft and juicy chipotle pulled pork on top of the potato hash, along with the lightly aerated hollandaise was delightful! <br/>The trio mushrooms dish was a work of art! The polenta soldiers stacked on top of one another, and an abundance of different varieties of mushies made for a very flavourful and filling dish. Although, I probably could have gone without the crispy enoki, as it contributed to a rather fishy taste. Other than that, we had a pleasant time at Middletown, and can not wait to come back and try some other intriguing dishes!

One of the classiest cafes I’ve been to! Beautiful interior and even the menus are fancy. It’s a great place to catch up or make an impression on someone, but there’s nothing special about the food and it’s also on the expensive end.

Incredible service, food and fitout!<br/><br/>Went in for a late Sunday lunch and this place really delivered. It's well lit with lots of seating and is a short walk from the often crowded chapel st.<br/><br/>Service was very friendly and quick. I had the Eggs Benedict with pulled pork ($19) this was a good serving size & came with plenty of pulled pork. The potato hash browns... totally amazing, eggs were cooked to perfection and the hollandaise was really good.<br/><br/>Dont look past this place if you're in the area. I look forward to coming back as the owners told us they're just about to launch a new menu.

Came in yesterday for breakfast and had the Benedict with a side of the hot smoked salmon. The Benedict was good but the salmon was amazing. Definitely will be back for more.

My first time enjoying duck waffles...yum! They are worth coming back for, no doubt about it.<br/>They are pricey in comparison to some brekkie spots but there is a nice atmosphere inside and great service.

Middletown is a nice place for brunch in Prahran. The décor is bright and modern and the food is creative. They plate their dishes in a contemporary way that makes you excited to eat the food. Middletown cafe - Avo w pickled beets. Being it brunch, we felt like some avocado. We ordered the avo which was chopped in chunks and placed on a piece of crisp pumpkin toast with spots of crème fraiche and pickled heirloom beets, pomegranate, radish and a poached egg scattered around the side. The plate had lots of negative space and looked creative and modern.

A beautiful cafe with beautiful coffee.<br/>I can here once while in area and got a take away coffee. It was so good we had to come back to try the food.<br/>There a mix of new dishes with the breakfast classics. Its different a place that values quality over quantity and I would describe them as being one more fine dining side of brunch.<br/><br/>We got the Duck and Waffles and the Trio of Mushrooms.<br/><br/>The waffles were great. They are crisp and reminiscent of a cheese cracker or crispbread. It was something different that worked and gave the dish some texture. The duck was pretty good considering its not my favourite protein.<br/><br/>The trio of mushrooms was quite good too. I loved the fried enoki Mushrooms on rop as they both tasted good and gave some crunch to the dish. The mushrooms are placed on a thick cut of brioche toast. Overall a well balanced dish.<br/><br/>Unfortunately I found a hair on my dish. It wasnt discovered while I was eating and I noticed it just as I was about it eat. Therefore I wasn't too fussed about it. I work in hospitality and sometimes no matter how cautious you ate, stuff like that happens. So I decided to notify the staff after I finished eating as I wasnt looking for a replacement meal and just wanted to let them know. They apologized and gave us some free coffees and everything worked out without any issues.<br/><br/>We quite enjoyed our visit here and its worth taking a visit. You dont leave completely stuffed from your food but satisfied with the flavours and quality of the dish you had.

We are so spoilt with choices here and the coffees are insanely GOOD. I’m not a huge coffee drinker but since living here I haven’t had a bad cup of coffee – which is a good sign.

A great place for brunch with friends. Staff are friendly, the service is prompt and the atmosphere is warm. The interior is modern, clean and simple - blue and white being the theme colours. I also love how spacious it is inside, meaning you aren’t seated so close to other people.

Middletown is a brunch cafe located on High Street in Prahran (yes once again we’ve been frequenting Prahran!). The cafe itself is a very modern, spacious yet welcoming place with large floor to ceiling windows allowing for ample of natural light. Think also lots of white and light timber colours with a splash of navy to add to the modern look.

Love their duck and waffles - it is a very interesting combination. We also ordered pan fried barramundi and it taste simple yet delicious. Very healthy choice to start a day :) coffee wasn’t so great but very friendly staff and we certainly enjoyed our time there.

The wait was 10-15 mins which is quite fast for a brunch place. The place is quite cute, simple and lots of natural lighting. We've waited 10-15 mins for our drinks. Dark Hot Choc was good, and the Matcha latte was ok. The waitress already told us that it's going to be around 20 mins wait for the food... but we didn't know it's going to be that bad. We've waited for at least 30 mins for the food. <br/>We ordered confit duck waffle and smoked barramundi. Personally I think it's very dissapointing. Barramundi was bland, octopus was really dry. The confit duck was good, the waffles was nice, but they're not a nice combo. Overall, I wouldn't want to go here again to spend 45 minutes / $55 worth of food which taste bland ☹️They had a good service though, everyone is super friendly.

From the people behind Operator 25, this cafe on the 'brunch side' of Prahran is modern, sleek and HUGE. Non-descript at first glance but what does the food offer and does this spot deserve a look in compared to its competitors?. Walking in on a Saturday morning - this spot was relatively empty which was strange and made me a bit apprehensive on what I was going to get. I made a visit during its hype days and now wanted to check it out again to see if it was still as good as I remember.

best service in a while<br/>friendly quite genuine. food was divine and tasty!!!!!!!!!!! atmosphere was zenish meet victorian. But not wankerish hypster. Food came out real quick too and was presented wonderfully.

I’ve been wanting to give visit this cafe for long time ago. Luckily I was in the area and straight away popped in. The cafe has modern, clean, bright space with lots of natural light. I had beetroot hot chocolate and almond croissant. The hot chocolate was beautifully presented as well as the taste, not too sweet. The staffs were friendly and service was quick. I might come back for the food.

Conservative ...<br/><br/>Purposely designed, set up, modern conservative cafe in Prahran ... complemented by its name.<br/>Well dress, great looking and pleasant staff.<br/><br/>7/10 $4.00 latte ... I'm sure more to offer from this conservative cafe. JT-20/04/2018.

This is my first time visit to middletown cafe.the place was so instagrammable, their interior design is one of my favourite.the ambience of the cafe is very nice too.. i ordered Pan fried barramundi, Slow cooked wagyu beef, chai latte & espresso.. for me, the beef was a bit dry and lack of seasoning however the barramundi is really delicious and wow the skin is so crispy! The chai latte & espresso is recommended as well! <br/><br/>Overall, the staff was friendly and their service was nice too. The food was wonderful too.. i’ll be coming back for sure!<br/> #BHAsFoodDiary

I had the chia seed pudding and a beetroot got chocolate. They were both so amazing. I've never had such a good chia seed pudding, it had raspberry sorbet on top😍 <br/>The staff were upbeat and friendly and we were well taken care off. <br/>Will definitely be coming back

Huge and very beautifully done-up (with very modern decor) cafe, Middletown is definitely a place to visit for breakies or brunches if you enjoy very private meals sans too much noise or music. <br/><br/>Ordered a Slow Cooked Beef and an Egg Benedict. Also ordered a Coffee and a Hot Chocolate.<br/><br/> Plating and quantity is just right for the price. <br/><br/>The dish for the day definitely goes to the slow cooked Beef. Perfectly moist and cooked, was served with a very flavourful sweet sauce. What a delightful dish. <br/><br/>Hot chocolate and the coffee were good enough. <br/><br/><br/><br/>Benedict was a bit disappointing because of a ver chewy sausage. Again, no element on the plate gave an unusual twist to the dish. <br/><br/>In our honest opinion there are very limited options to choose from....Got a bit tricky for us to place the order for Kunnu who finally chose Benedict. <br/><br/>Warm and very welcoming hosts of this Vegan and Vegetarian friendly place was a plus. <br/><br/><br/><br/>

Really nice interior and such friendly staff, coffee and food didn’t take very long to come out which is always a plus, food was good. Would come here again

Best Breakfast I have ever had!<br/>Poached Eggs were cooked to perfection.<br/>Highly recommend the Avocado dish, favors were delicious.<br/>I am very picky with my coffee, when I walked into the restaurant the smell of coffee beans sold me straight away, the taste even better.<br/>We will be back for sure!
Eric L
The restaurant that Inspired me to write my first review. <br/><br/>Walked in with no real expectation, this is one of the best meals we've had recently. Had the Slow cooked beef, with the wife having the Trio of mushrooms recommended by our waiter. Both of us was surprised with these delicious dishes and enjoyed it immensely. Will come back to try their other dishes.
Vinny M
Clean, bright, open space serving delicious food. Trio of mushrooms and slow cooked beef are absolutely delicious. Classic techniques and flavours with a modern edge made it one of the best meals we've had recently. Nice work chef and thanks to our waiter Louis for the recommendations!

The breakfast menu was interesting - not the standard menu you see everywhere else. And the fitout was modern, bright and airy. And it’s relatively big which is a bonus as wait times are short! Coffee was good. Staff were friendly.<br/>A good option in the Prahran/Windsor area.
Robert Amato
Had the black waffles, really enjoyable and super yummy! Cool fitout with lots of natural light and staff were friendly. Great coffee too, I’d def come back! It’s a loud cafe, but great fun! Thanks again.

This is my second visit to Middletown cafe and I think it is fair to say that they have improved a lot from the last time I went there. They changed most of the menu which is unfortunate to me because I love the waffle with truffle ice cream they used to have. <br/>The interior is top notch, the service was great, the ambience was really nice as well.<br/>Today we had the duck & waffles (which is one of the best dish we've ever had, yes it is THAT good), bbq glazed wagyu brisket, chicken burger, pan seared barramundi.<br/>At first, I expected the barramundi to be crispy-skinned and wow'd me the most, but it turned out to be just okay; also the creamy bisque was a little bit lack of seasoning for my liking.<br/>Overall, our dining experience in Middletown has been wonderful, and I might come back sometimes in the future to have another plate of duck & waffles :)

I can't fault this place, decor is beautiful, staff are attentive and food is divine. <br/>Recommend this place for brunch or coffee, and just off chapel st where you don't see too much hustle and bustle. Highly recommend this place!
Brunos Food Safari
Place: Had a nice fit out. Nice and cosy atmosphere. <br/>Service: was good with friendly staff.<br/>Lunch: Had the duck which was nothing special considering this dish was meant to be the star attraction of this eatery. It wasn’t tender/well cooked enough (slightly tough) to my liking. Waffles came with the duck too, with a serving of syrup. For me I wouldn’t get that again. The sweet taste with the meat was not my thing but may work for others. Coffee passed but have had better in many other places. Overall just a pass. Wouldn’t be hurrying back.

Omg, this cafe - what an amazing experience. Having finished the Melbs marathon run, I could've eaten anything but I think we chose the best thing to fill our stomachs with. I had the mushroom on brioche dish which was just heavenly - but I also tasted the haloumi fries and the duck waffles, awesome. There's certainly a reason that Melbourne is famous for brunch!

Simply impressive! Absolutely love coming here. Staff always accomodating, no fuss for seating larger groups. Food delicious and presentation is wonderful. Highly recommend the beetroot cured salmon!

<br/>So I want to want to love Middletown but I don't. <br/><br/>The interior is to die for. The blue is the most beautiful blue I've seen and against the white it's stunning. Staff are great but we were told that even though he had delivered our coffees he couldn't take our order. We had to wait for our waiter.<br/><br/>Coffee is great. Like really great. Menu is limited but creative and I love that yet it feels stilted. Like they're trying to do everything trendy without doing it well. <br/><br/>I designed my own breakfast and had toast with avo, Vegemite and a fried egg on multigrain. My friend had the matcha chia pudding. My serving was weirdly small. Very small pieces of toast and a very small fried egg. My friends chia pudding didn't taste of anything except the fruit that it came with and again was very small. <br/><br/>There was nothing bad about my breakfast at Middletown but, as a regular in the area, I won't return. <br/><br/><br/><br/>
Rigel
This is my first time I want to write a review for a cafe. The food was just fine. BUT! I would never hiring a staff who never say a Thankyou throughout my brunch ! She didn't have any reaction when I ordering, just nod her head!! ????? I never seen a person not say a thankyou after I pay money for. That's so rude! Never again
Lcche3
Great interior design, clean and sophisticated. Coffees are great and food is amazing. The menu have something for everyone, you will sure be impressed. Matcha chia bowl, wow... packed matcha flavor, the mango sorbet is amazing, something really different. If you want different brunch, this is definitely the place for you. This place is on a busy high street, so sometimes parking can be an issue.
JT
A cafe inspired by Kate Middleton, the overall look certainly achieved this with a sense of 'casual class' or 'relaxed hamptons' feel.<br/>We also appreciated the round tables in the middle that allows seating for 3 people which allows conversation flow rather than the 3 people seated on a table of 4 rectangular set up.<br/><br/>Coffees were nice, we look forward to trying their sorbet iced tea next time!<br/>Food-wise, the combinations were modern but mostly did not work unfortunately. <br/>Barramundi was served with a seafood bisque but it merely gave the whole dish a fishy-seafoody taste.<br/>Duck and egg waffles- waffle was super crispy probably deep fried. Duck itself was farrrrrr too salty and appeared deep fried as well, quite disappointed.<br/>Beef brisket- there is a reason why brisket is not cooked and served as a whole chunk like a steak. The fat isn't properly rendered and cooked down and was not very pleasant to eat. We struggled to finish it. The accompaniments were good, although would prefer potatoes to be either crispy or fluffy. It was neither.<br/>We also saw a beetroot cured salmon dish being served as a whole salmon steak. Although we didn't order it, we can imagine what it would have been like to eat. Cured salmon is usually served in a refined form, thinly sliced with accompaniments. However, serving cured salmon in steak form gave a very vibrant color but all we could think of was bear grylls grabbing a fish out of the water and munching on it. I'm Sure the experience would have been similar...<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

what a lovely place for brunch! love the black waffle, just don't understand why rock sugar is on it. It is soo hard. Love the pudding as well. green tea pudding is so different. Love it. The Ice tea with ice cream as well. love love love

Quite the most spectacular breakfast ever! Visited here with some of my favourite people. Service attentive, surroundings immaculate. Busy but not noisy, a good vibe! The menu had all bases covered with some imaginative options. Portions were huge, but thankfully we could take home. Not cheap, but really excellent value. It's on the austar list now!

Quiet time for late lunch! Lucky not much people in weekday; fancy menu and interior design. Good to have wine selection , not only juice n coffee. <br/>The food of the menu is quite outstanding and special . I tried the duck on waffle , crispy duck leg is yammy, very tasty, the waffle is too cheesy . The duck is full of flavor, need something mild to balance the duck leg. Also the apple salad is not really matching with meal, the dressing can be different , a bit over power !! Can try apple in light maple syrup dressing, it will be balance the flavor of the dish. Good service and friendly staff around.

Was a actually pleasantly surprised bumpy this place. Although decor isn't my style everything else is! Service was good and good was great. Loved not having to order an extra egg as meals come with two eggs! Thank you this is how brekky should be!

Friendly and helpful staff. Strongest coffee (which is rare for cafes to get right these days), simple yet tasty eggs, dished up in a clean and comfortable venue!

Every single time I come here, everything is perfect. Literally. Every dish I have tried has been an experience. The coffee not only tastes divine, but it looks picture perfect. The design of the space is just beautiful. The menu is simple to understand, and the flavours have just enough complexity to feel your taste-buds are being transported to somewhere magical, without being excessively adventurous.  The service is wonderful whether I am stopping in for a quick takeaway coffee, or sitting in for a long lunch.  These guys have perfectly pulled off a wonderful project and Middletown is a credit to their hard work. (FYI Although it mightn't sound like it, I have no idea who they are, I am merely an over satisfied customer!)

Nice modern place! Very stylish and a great place to catch up with friends for brunch! Food was exceptional, not ur ordinary eggs and toast!

Visited mid week when it wasn't too busy, very friendly staff, greeted automatically by barista as soon as I entered which was lovely, I'm sick of other places filled with baristas that think they're too cool.<br/>The coffee was lovely but Luke warm which I understand is probably a way of getting people to drink up and reorder.<br/>I had the trio of mushrooms which was delicious, however this is a gripe I have with many places and that is that as soon as the waitress brought over my plate, I could smell truffle, but it's not even mentioned on the menu, so cafes, when you have a prominent ingredient in your meal, PLEASE mention it on the menu

Food was just average. Bacon is thick cut however a little lack of flavour. Decorations are good however the chairs are not really comfortable.

Love the modern clean feel to Middletown. I had avo and mushrooms on toast - with a strong almond latte. I wasn't a fan of the coffee, my husband said they do a nice "normal" latte, but almond latte - not so much. Loved my food though!

Came here for lunch today with my partner. The cafe has a very stylish interior and looks really cool and inviting. I like that you can see into the kitchen, always a sign to me that they are proud of their kitchen and food prep. <br/>The staff are lovely and the service is good and efficient. <br/>I ordered a long black and an Iced Coffee because I was feeling that way today! Josh just got a skinny latte.<br/>For food- I ordered the fried chicken and Josh ordered the wagyu brisket. I got a side of food envy with mine... Josh's brisket looked and tasted incredible. The fried chicken came out and looked very impressive but the flavour of the chicken fell flat. The coating had no flavour on its own and the chicken on the inside was a weird colour. The coleslaw was good and the bread was lovely and soft. <br/>Josh's brisket, however, was lovely and tender, well cooked and all the flavours worked really well together.<br/>All in all, not a bad place for lunch but definitely go for the brisket over the chicken!

Beautiful food presentation, prompt service, outstanding coffee and delicious food. I have been here 3 times now and it never fails to impress.

> 2x Avocado on polenta and sweet potato croquette with pickled beetroot, pomegranate and poached eggs AND Black waffles- Charcoal waffles with mascarpone ice cream, maple syrup, salted macadamias and textures of strawberries <<br/><br/>After going to Middletown in October last year, we thought it was time to venture back and try some more yummy dishes, which we were super excited about! We tried the avo on polenta and the black waffles, both of which we haven't consumed in a while so we thought we'd give it a try. The avo on polenta was surprisingly delicious! The polenta didn't have a really strong flavour, which was good because it did not overpower the rest of the dish. The avo was perfectly ripe and added a nice creamy texture to the dish. Both piggies agree this is a great dish and very innovative compared to the traditional smashed avo. <br/>We couldn't come here and not try the black waffles because they're so iconic, so obviously we got it. We had high expectations for them but they we were quite underwhelmed. The waffles were a little dry and didn't really have any real flavour to them. The condiments that went with it, however, were very sweet and delicious, which enhanced the dryness and added some flavour to the dish. <br/>The service was quite ordinary, but the food came out really fast so we weren't too fussed about the service. <br/>The breakfastpiggy team

Inviting place, very pleasant atmosphere upon entry. The menu is quite extensive but not crowded. Chose the Sardines but swapped for a poached egg instead. Good food and nice coffee

<br/><br/>Reviewing reviewers......<br/><br/>Mandytoorak.<br/><br/>It doesn't seem to end with the ever increasing experts we have in Melbourne. Was it the cafe trying too hard or were you trying too hard to find fault. <br/>This is one place I have been to and it bemuses me that you found the food not filing or even worth the money. <br/>The menu is fantastic and the food is made by chefs that clearly know what they are doing. <br/>As a restaurateur and someone that has no affiliation with this place it's probably best you keep your ill informed views to yourself this place really does have what it takes.

Went here on a quiet Wednesday morning. Service was really good as it wasn't overly busy and the decor is really simple but nice. Had the mushrooms and found the flavour incredible although the dish itself was quite small. Halfway through I asked for a piece of sourdough to help fulfil me. Would be a nice place to go on a cold rainy morning during winter.l

The decor of this place was so amazing!! Pictures don't do justice, such a beautiful blue colour. We judged the meals by the look of the menu, but the meals itself were actually really good! I had the avo meal with egg & the flavours were sooo good

After reading a few of the reviews I was very sceptical about this place. We were seated fairly quick which was a great start. Loved their high chairs I have to say. Not the typical white cheap IKEA ones. Our daughter sat perfectly in this one. The cafe was buzzing and vibrant today. All the window were open allowing the sun and air to steam through. The decor was beautiful and was totally digging the blue theme. Loved the coffee bar set up. Coffee was 👌🏼AMAZ-ING 👏🏼 great start. I had the polenta with Avo. This was delicious with burst of flavour from the pomegranate and the beetroot and not 1 BUT 2 EGGS!!!! Hubby had the fried chicken!!! I had total food envy. So so yummy and perfectly cooked. Chicken juicy and crispy the way it should be. Thank you middle town for an amazing dining experience. You were all lovely and friendly and greeted us with a smile. Can't wait to come back with the girls to try more!

I visited Middle Town on a weekday morning after reading a few good reviews about it.<br/><br/>The interiors certainly makes you feel like a loyalty as one of the review suggested. The staffs are all very friendly and attentive.<br/><br/>I do find the menu is quite limited in options but I managed to pick one that I would love to try and it was an enjoyable meal.<br/><br/>I ordered the avocado and it is a very pretty and delicious dish. Though it might seems quite small in portion but because of the polenta,it does fill me up. The avocado given is quite generous in portion; certainly fulfil the name of the dish. I would definitely come back to this café if I happened to be around the neighbourhood again.

Middletown cafe bills itself on being royal but still close to the people. In a way that is what brunch has become: increasingly fine dining yet still accessible to most. The decor at Middletown certainly looks the part. Large windows, bright marble tables and fresh flowers made the whole space feel light and airy. The bench tops seemed like a place where a solo diner would be welcome, not only to enjoy the food but also take many photos of the oh so instagrammable interior and dishes.
Taniacandido
I got the chia pudding which was good but just needed more flavor. The best part was the watermelon sorbet - it was so refreshing!! Everything came out under ten minutes and the service was friendly. The interior was bright, clean and kind of calming. The atmosphere was relaxed and like you could just have a coffee and hang out for a few hours.

Found this cafe through instagram as it was or will be featured on postcards.<br/><br/>Tried it out last weekend very nice fit out and friendly service. It does get noisy in there mostly hard surfaces with nothing to absorb sound. <br/>Ordered a basic breakfast very high quality bacon rashers , freshly poached eggs and good sized portions of food. Coffee was not that strong however that's just a personal preference. <br/>Would defiantly come back.

Nice deco. Coffee is ok but food is not value for money. Average flavor and small sizing. The waitress (maybe manager) I met was impatient which made my exprience a bit more uncomfortable. Probably not coming back given there are so many cafes in the area
Good Food Good Mood
I'm actually in a relationship with food. Checked out the beautiful new Middletown on the weekend the latest offering by the team behind Operator 25 and I couldn't believe how stunning and elegant the space was. Truly lovely interiors. I ordered the chia with watermelon sorbet and unfortunately the first thing I put my spoon through was the sorbet and it was so fantastic it kind of ruined everything else for me. I pretty much wished I could eat a bowl of that sweet fruity sorbet. A good chia pudding needs a nice balance otherwise you are just eating a bowl of soaked seeds and you get over the texture very quickly so it was good to have the coconut flakes and mango pieces although it probably could have done with a tad more fruit. The place wasn't full when we arrived at about 12.30 (and we were seated immediately which was a win) but it was extremely loud inside due to the acoustics being very echoey. That was probably my one critique but in terms of decor I couldn't think of a prettier place to brunch
Nathan McBain
Coffee - got a takeaway flat white. Strong, chocolatey flavour with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The milk has a thin but not watery mouthfeel. <br/><br/>Staff were very friendly and efficient and the decor was sleek and modern, very on-trend. <br/><br/>Would visit again if in the area.

I'm not a big fan of going out for breakfast unless the menu is unique.  Paying $15 for someone to mash an avocado on a piece of toast just doesn't sit well for me.  <br/><br/>The decor at this place was beautiful and the staff friendly.  The presentation of the food is amazing, and in itself, a reason to visit this place.<br/><br/>My partner ordered AVOCADO -$17  (On polenta and sweet potato croquette with pickled beetroot, pomegranate and poached eggs) and I ordered TRIO MUSHROOMS -$18 (On celeriac puree with crispy pancetta, poached eggs, pecorino cheese and brioche soldiers).<br/>The Avocado was enjoyable however the trio of mushrooms was the a winner!  I regretted swapping my meal with my partner as we normally do.  The first coffee we had was great however we ordered a second one and it tasted a little bitter.  For a dish under $20 that tastes this good and the effort the kitchen put into the presentation, I think it was worth the visit.  I've been to places that charge $25 for a good ordinary breakfast in Sydney so my benchmark might not be good.<br/>If I visit this place again, I will definitely try their waffles.  The table next to me ordered a serving and I had food envy when it came out!

It was the day after my Hen’s (yep, one more month to go guys) and we decided to refuel at a nearby cafe, Middletown in Prahan. Middletown is a Kate-inspired cafe where everything is blue, white and a dash of gold. When you walk in, its classy and sleek, definitely what you would expect from royalty.
FoodieMan
Pretty average food. Didn't have the wow factor and the flavours were quite ordinary. The bread in the pickled salmon was inedible. <br/><br/>Service was close to non-existent.<br/><br/>Would I come here again? Hmmmm. Probably not.

Food 1.5: delicious but overpriced ... the portion is very small. Coffee was ok.<br/><br/>Service 1: average <br/><br/>Atmosphere & decors 1: lovely, clean, Scandinavian kind of feel

Went with my gf on last weekend..... I tried their triple mushroom dish... <br/>Honestly.. not a good value given the dishes is very small.. I believe they want to make a fine dining experience like everyone said but not achievable.. <br/><br/>My gf tried their grilled brocollini.. how should I describe the taste.. just like grilled broccolini I guess.. nothing really stands out except the price..<br/><br/>I have a high expectation for their filter.. taste somehow flat and not the usual code black filter that I drink from Dockland.. I wish they take care of my filter better than just leaving it aside and let a machine do the job.... <br/><br/>The barista at least is very friendly.. except the tall skinny waiter.. she's somehow quiet unhappy and unfriendly.. <br/><br/>If you want a better experience.. stick to operator25 and stay away from this shop

Really nice space to catch up with a group and have a brunch. Had the mushrooms with poached eggs, bacon, brioche soldiers and a few other bits and pieces. Coffee was good if a little on the weak side. While my meal looked amazing it was lacking a bit of flavour and the same with the rest of the tables meals. The real strength of the venue is the white and blue design and the space inside, very comfortable and I'd go again.

Staff - Really do this place a credit. They have nailed that mix between friendly and attentive to not overly suffocating. Timing for ordering etc was perfect<br/><br/>Atmosphere - the Interior design is serene, I loved the fresh contemporary finishes and attention to detail. The aircon though was turned up a bit high where it didn't need to be (was about 22 outside). Also I think acoustic panelling might need to be installed because it was a bit cacophonous. <br/><br/>Food/Bev - well priced but interesting was my first impression. Creamy and well balanced coffee, not a heap going on but suits this place where the food is the hero. I had the mushrooms and it was delightful, the celeriac purée being the winner, tangy and salty it really lifted everything. <br/><br/>Thanks Middletown, eight out of ten would come again
Melbsfoodie
Wow. Another great brunch place with code black coffee. Coffee waffles were super tasty and the place has a great vibe. Will be back for sure.

Pretty happy with my ordering - coffee waffle. Very nice dish ($17), lots of strawberry and the truffle ice cream is a boom also the waffle itself is great not overly sweet. A dish worth 5/5. However, their matcha latte had let down the experience, weak matcha flavour and too sweet for my liking. Average coffee. There's one thing I'm sure that I'll order the waffle again if I come back next time.
Tamara
Nice deco, looks sharp and elegant. Service was nice and smooth. A little too pricey for regularly visit but brunch once in a while would be ok. <br/>Food was nicely presentable. Will come back again for trying some new menu.
Hello. Imnikki
Run by the team behind Operator25, you are assured of a smooth experience, solid coffee and inventive dishes. As a DIY enthusiast, my partner was quite smitten with the dark blue and white colour scheme and the elegant interior. Me? I just wanted my daily dose of caffeine and I was given just that. The latte was smooth, creamy and balanced. I was however less impressed with my dish of avocado on polenta and sweet potato croquette - the croquette was dry and bland, and the picked beetroot and pomegranate were few and in between despite being listed as the supporting ingredients. Not to despair though, the trio mushroom was sensational. Jam packed with flavours and unlike the previously mentioned lazy supporting actors, the brioche soldiers pushed their way into the limelight. A round of applause to the yummy buttery and crispy munchies who saved the day and the overall meal experience.

31 December and just had the best breakfast of 2016. I had the mackerel breakfast dish with a side of bacon. Bacon was thick cut and delicious and the mackerel, to die for. I made noises while eating through the dish. Just a great combination that tickled my tastebuds. Well done and I'll be coming back!

Clean crisp and stylish this new cafe oozes light and space. The brekky and lunch menus include items which are just that bit different. A selection of pastries are on offer. My broccolini with asparagus and egg was excellent. The coffee and the crew were top notch.
Heidi
What a beautiful cafe, and big too! Really bright and open with lots of tables! I ordered the coffee waffles with strawberries, maple syrup and icecream. They were delicious, they were pretty light in in coffee flavour but nonetheless they were still really good! The staff were very friendly too which is always an added bonus! I'll be back to check out the other items in the menu, they are all presented so well.

Came here for a late brunch with a couple of friends today, having heard great things about Middletown over the last few months. It's a relatively large space, which creates a refreshing openness, along with the clean white interior designs. Little details stand out - such as the fancy menu (in an actual bound book rather than a sheet of paper). Staff are very attentive, always ensuring our glasses were full of water and service was quite efficient (though the brunch rush had died down when we ordered). The food is prepared well and presented in an aesthetically appealing manner - as we have come to expect of most brunch places these days. However there was nothing really stand out on the menu- though I must say the barramundi dish was delicious, and the avocado dish is very pretty indeed. If you're in the area, I'd recommend dropping in for brunch or a coffee but I'm not sure it lives up to the hype!

We had the mushrooms and the grilled broccolini. Delicious. Really like that there was minimal bread and lots of the good stuff. Coffee prices are on the higher side though.
Tony
Lovely ambience but the food was a little bit of a letdown. No real standout dishes - and pretty much the same rehashed brunch options nearly similar to every other brunch spot. Beautiful interior though.
Munching Melbourne
The interior of Middletown is minimalistic and sleek. We enjoyed the coffee waffles which came with a generous amount of giant strawberries. However the coffee flavor of the waffles was non-existent. The avocado dish was erred on the side of bland and the portion size was a little too small for our liking. Overall a great café with friendly staff.
MandyToorak
No it's just trying too hard. Ordered Avo toast and it came like a deconstructed dish. All different elements scattered across the plate. Was not filling in the slightest even though it was same price if not more than the neighbouring cafes. No from me, no need to come back here

I confess to being a massive fan of Operator 25, and following the progress of this cafe since they announced it. However, being based in Sydney meant that I was forced to drool over the instagram pics without being able to get down to Prahran to sample it for myself.<br/><br/>Finally - the drought ended, and I sprung for a cab to whisk me from the City to here on a Saturday morning after finishing a week in Melbourne for work.<br/><br/>I had a couple of flat whites and the Coffee Waffles. With two cab fares and the meal price, I basically spent $100 on waffles.<br/><br/>Worth. Every. Penny.<br/><br/>I agree with some comments here that they should really be called Strawberry waffles as that is easily the dominant flavour - but so what. They are divine. The search for worlds greatest waffle ends here. They are the perfect consistency inside and out and the flavours of the strawberry in so many forms is out of this world.<br/><br/>The coffees are outstanding. Depth and character of the flavour and temperature are all spot on for me. You get a sense that every cup is made with care and not just banged out to quench a thirsty morning crowd. This is exactly what I expected from the masters of the beverage at Operator 25 and they didn't disappoint.<br/><br/>Whilst I'm forced to return to Sydney, I will defiantly return to Middletown Cafe on my next work trip.

Excellent flavour combinations! Both salty and sweet plates were amazing. Great service too!!!best place in Prahran !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cafes will be the death of me. <br/><br/>I love the look of them, and I am always hopeful that the next one I try will be the one that blows me away. But they always just never quite get there. I ordered the trio mushrooms and the plating looked quite clean ad beautiful. The taste was okay, but quickly became repetitive. The matcha latte was quite nice; a little on the sweeter side.<br/><br/>The layout of the store is quite clean, modern and well thought. It is simple and takes advantage of the surrounding natural light.

Went for breakfast with some friends on a Friday morning as we do every Friday morning. After eating the some of the best scrambled eggs with a lovely side of thick cut bacon and avocado and drinking two beautiful double shot cappuccino's I was even more impressed by the bill. One of the best cafes in the area and I've tried most. Deserves way more than its current rating. Try it!

Every time something British crosses my path I get a serious case of nostalgia. I really do miss England and Europe so much. Which is why I was delighted to find a little café in Prahran that was guaranteed to quell my sense of London-sickness. Welcome to Middletown. Yep. You guessed it. It’s named after the famous princess Kate. And it has all the style and class you would expect of her wardrobe. Swing open the doors to find royal blue hues, marble counter tops and hints of metallic gold. Not going to lie - the interior was the number thing that drew me to this place. Chic, sophisticated and totally fabulous.
Subifoodie
Nice fresh clean fit-out. Almost like an upmarket Scandinavian kitchen. Staff friendly and chatty. Plenty of choice on the breakfast menu; lunch not so much. All very creative and pretty servings but a salad with leaves would be nice even if offends the chef! Trio of mushrooms with poached eggs brioche pancetta was well received; Wagu brisket on house brioche mustard aioli fruit relish and crispy chard looked amazing. It was tasty with a slightly too-sweet brioche and the brisket was too chewy (tough). We will give it another go though.
XiaoHui Teo
Nice cafe with great interior design and lighting. I ordered the trio mushroom while my friend got the egg benedict dish. The mushroom was really good but the portion could be a bit bigger. The downside was the service, I understand it was weekend but the fact that they rushed us and cleared our table while my friend was still going with her dish is a big NO for me.
Eatwithhendri
Love the ambiance and sleek design of this cafe. Coffee and soy chai was fantastic. Food was a bit hit and miss. The brocollini was delicious and coffee waffle has a perfect texture that I like, crispy exterior with soft and moist interior. However I was confused if it's a coffee waffle or a strawberry waffle as I couldn't even tasted any coffee smell or flavour in this dish. Not sure if the strawberries have taken away the coffee flavour?
Ramieleatsshootsandleaves
Lovely people ready to serve you. Enjoyed the atmosphere here!<br/>I muchly appreciated the magic too - bonus with the matcha with almond milk - ahh, the slightly strong "bitterness" just as it should, if one likes sweet matcha, then you must be having the fake Arkadia stuff.<br/>The baguette itself had room for improvement - but the filling inside was delicious!<br/>Would love to bring friends here next time!
Sybarite
So....... The weirdest (and undrinkable) matcha I have ever had in Australia. Amazingly, I would still go back to try the food, mainly based on how much I loved the decor - I could sit in there all day (or decorate my house similarly!) Coffee drinking companion also said the coffee was odd. What was it??
PacMan
Odd tasting coffee....odd tasting matcha. <br/><br/>Not sure what was going on here but neither I nor my marvellous, magnificent, matcha loving mate, could define it as anything other slightly 'odd'. <br/><br/>Possibly, made with water that was a little too hot(?). <br/><br/>Either way, odd coffee and matcha. Decor and ambience made Middletown look a good place to eat, but not sure I would risk it based on the coffee.

I like the place, clean and bright, the service was great too, quick and friendly. <br/><br/>We ordered coffee waffles and wagyu brisket. The waffles was nice but for me it lack of sauce, it was too dry. Wagyu Brisket was nice, no complaints but not the best. <br/><br/>
Food Etc.
My experience here on Saturday was so good, that I decided I should come back the very next day and see if it really was too good to be true. Such was the daze of happiness that I was in on my first visit, it was virtually impossible for them to live up to my hype. True, it was impossible for them to reach the heights of the Saturday, but I left here every bit as impressed on the second visit. The entire experience is tailored to my specific set of needs and wants. You begin with the bright white decor, which is surely a wake-up cure on any lazy weekend. The leather bound menus speak to the quality of the offering coming from the kitchen and coffee machine.
Andrew
All style, no substance.<br/><br/>Service was friendly and attentive, seamless even — the interior and other elements were also well considered... but the food; the food was so incredibly lackluster. The Benedict was flavorless and dry, with vinegar flavored poached eggs for good measure. The Avocado cornbread dish wasn't much better either. I wish there was some redeeming element I could comment on other than the service, but this was easily the worst breakfast I've ever paid for. Unfortunately the coffee was subpar as well. Overall, a really underwhelming experience; and a poor reflection on Melbourne's hospitality scene.
DuckieLovesToEat
So there is a new kid on the block and we are dying to try it. My work mates and I decided to have breakfast here to ticked it from our bucket list of cafes. The staff were very friendly, I do like people who have sense of humour especially early in the morning. The place is pretty neat. I like that it looks very chic. As for the chai latte, it was so bland I wasn't too sure if I was actually drinking chai. As for the picture perfect coffee waffles, it was on the dry side. The staff were pretty good but I can't say the same for the waffles and chai latte. I don't think I will come back here in a hurry.

Middletown is spacious and bright, with a clean yet trendy look. It was very busy on the weekend but tables turned over fairly quickly so we only waited about five minutes. As a huge fan of Operator25, I was so keen for this meal. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. We were seated without water, while many other customers were seated after us and already had their orders taken while we waited some fifteen minutes before someone took our order or got us water. The pickled mackerel dish was interesting but being a cold dish, was overly fishy even for someone who loved mackerel. The avocado on cornbread looked really promising on paper, and reminded me of a similar dish at Operator25 a few years ago. Unfortunately what came out looked so underwhelming. It was literally just sliced avocado that wasn't even ripe yet, a few pieces of smoked beetroot, several pomegranate seeds and three small dollops of goats cheese mousse with the cornbread and egg. It was the most underwhelming and bland brunch dish I've ever had. It was trying way too hard to be fancy and "wannabe fine dining" despite being a brunch cafe. It didn't even taste any good, and I left starving. I don't know how the same people behind the inventive and delicious food of Operator25 could also be behind such disappointing food and service.
Champagne_supernova
Had to give this place a try after seeing it open down the street. We had two dishes: the Trio of Mushrooms were delicious but the Coffee Waffles were really quite average. The space had a lovely ambience and we got a nice spot by the window. It's a pleasant place for brunch - pop in if you're in the area, but don't bother waiting if there's a queue - there are plenty of other decent cafes around.
Natalie Ryan
Quite nice food but small portions for the price. On the day I went, the staff weren't very nice or the most attentive. The set out however is very spacious and attractive.
Vivi Wulansari
This place is very well decorated!! Every single details of the design is very well thought of!! I love the decor, the lighting and the leather menu cover and many more. The coffee was good, though mind was a little cold to my liking. We tried the trio mushrooms which was delicious! The benedict, was good but my toast was stale, I can't even cut it with the knife. The coffee waffle was good too, but I think the waffle is a little on the salty side so the flavor is a bit unbalance. However service is great!! Friendly staff. Would definitely come back in a few months once they iron out the grand opening flaws. Worth a visit for sure.
Live_in_melbourne
Middletown is a beautiful, elegant and impressive cafe. We were surprised by the amazing service. They did A+ without any flaw. My Wagyu beef was nice just needs more flavor. Avocado was a bit let down...especially the cornbread was really dry. Danish and matcha latte were delicious.

Beautiful new cafe in Prahran brought to you by the team behind Operator 25. This place is a must visit for brunch lovers. Tried their Coffee Waffle and Wagyu Brisket, it was delicious and I just can't wait to come back for more. The Coffee Waffle was crispy on the outside and delicately smooth on the inside, paired well with the different textures of strawberries and ice-cream. The wagyu brisket is a must order for meat lovers; meat was soft and juicy, perfect with their brioche. <br/><br/>Can't wait to come back and try their Trio Mushrooms!

Melbourne’s a town that’s pretty laid back and casual, where people seem to be buying more leggings than designer handbags and loving warehouse and blonde wood over Toorak style mansions. . And then Middletown pops open to challenge Melbourne’s palate yet again. . The new cafe located in Prahran on High Street, a long awaited second site from the guys who brought us Operator 25, is inspired by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Royal but close the people. The gorgeous fit out is definitely luxe, gorgeously structured with dark rich blues against perfectly crisp whites, but approachable with blonde wood furnishings and minimal fittings softening out the space whilst keeping it contemporary. There’s lots of attention to detail here.
Constantinekleine
Good service, good coffee but the food is a let down. The food menu is small and the items are not that great ie. Way too sweet or just bland.
Coffee And Food
Welcome to Prahran, good design, logo and food presentation. For me the food are just not my taste as it's a bit bland. Price wise it's a bit too expensive as well. Had a filter coffee and it was just too plain and tasteless but one thing I like is the window steat.
Whats On The Grill?
Wasn't for me. Came here for breakfast whereby I prefer for a place to be comfortable and laid back with coffee, eggs and bacon perfuming the place but this was not it. Almost had a fine dining feel to it with the formal looking menus and the food presentation on the plate. Food was ok but overpriced. Breakfast should be basic in my book and I felt this was not. Others may enjoy.
Steph Siu
The food is tasty, great for a light brunch or breakfast. I had the avocado and my friend had the mushroom trio. Mine was delicious, the toast was nicely made and the avocado and cheese go perfectly together. However, the portions are very small. The place is also quite crowded and very noisy.
Doran
This restaurant has great curb appeal, with modern finishings and great interior design elements. However, past the initial look, the coffee was bitter and terrible. The chai was tasteless and lacked any sort of body. We came at lunch and ordered the Steamed Barramundi and the Duck Leg. While the presentation looked great, both dishes were extremely bland and their flavour was a huge letdown given that the appearance of both dishes screamed out huge potential. Will not be coming back.
Jae Lee
Great brunch cafe with a cute preppy interior. Coffee waffles with strawberries and truffle honey were not only aesthetically pleasing to the eyes but also tasty for the tummy! The trio of mushrooms were even better but we just wish there was more of it on the plate.
Tangles
Small portions, noisy, service provided with a sense of indifference. If you're going to line up for brunch, you'd be better off down the road at journeyman.
Eatingelephant
The menu looks creative but to be honest maybe they went too overboard with it. I got the duck leg, expecting a crispy confit duck like appearance and texture but the skin was not rendered off. The celeriac remoulade had too much mustard i reckon, and the cherry jus didn't really made a difference (too little). Overall the dish was bland and lacked of seasoning. <br/><br/>My friend got the wagyu brisket, it was more like a very chewy steak with a lot of fat, basically it tasted like fat than it was a wagyu. <br/><br/>The iced matcha latte was practically tasted like watered down green milk tea. <br/><br/>Sorry if this is a negative review. Great interior though
The Food Society
Middletown, the name of Prahran’s latest cosy hideout, is based of the persona of the Dutchess of Cambridge; royal, but close to the people. It’s all part of the vision of co-owners Randy Dhamanhuri and Valerie Fong, the same duo behind Operator 25, which has quickly become one of Melbourne CBD’s most frequented cafes. The duo have created another luxurious nest in this feel-good space with sophisticated, delicious and healthy meals.
David Food Leasing
DO: The wagyu brisket, the eggs Benedict and a side of thick cut bacon.<br/><br/>DON'T: Leave without ordering the matcha latte, Cobb Lane baked goods and truffle waffles. <br/><br/>TIP: Keep a watch out for parking inspectors. Only 1 hour parking on High Street. I got fined :(
Kate Dougherty
Yet another great cafe to pop up on the Melbourne brunching scene. Beautifully designed and very spacious venue with sophisticated furnishings and lots of natural light. The menu is also a winner. I ordered the coffee waffles with strawberries, vanilla ice cream and truffle honey. Whilst the waffles didn't have an overly pronounced coffee flavour the texture was brilliant. The truffle honey is probably an acquired taste and I personally would have preferred maple syrup but that's just me. The service was also very professional and the food came out quickly which is quite a feat for a brand new cafe. Nice work Middletown!

Middletown's a brand new cafe that is inspired by Kate Middleton, as seen in their interior design (and the name of the cafe too!). The contrasting and stunning white and dark blue colour schemes along with their marbled-table tops were eye-catching. I had the benedict, which was just like any other regular eggs benedict you'd order. However, they serve it with a few pieces of pork belly which was a yummy addition to it. I also had the hot matcha latte which was perfect to my liking.<br/><br/>My friend enjoyed her 'trio mushrooms' dish but wished it was larger in portion with her house iced tea. Another friend ordered the avocado dish, which looked very appealing! She also had a freshly squeezed OJ. Although the cafe is quite over-hyped, I believe you'd enjoy the amazing interiors and friendly staff members there.

Hungover brekky in Prahan. Coffee was nice (bitter and smooth) and benedict was awesome! Blood orange hollandaise but not overpowering with tender pork and perfect poached eggs!! Cleaned off my plate really quickly. Service was also good, would go back to Middletown!

Inspired by Kate Middleton, Middletown is a newly hyped cafe in Prahran.<br/>Must try their Duck leg, Wagyu Brisket and Trio Mushrooms.

Aesthetically pleasing but poor service is how I would describe this one. Had the avocado on toast which was great but the side of pork pastrami was just fried pork fat.. No relation to regular pastrami at all. Waited 30m for my smoothie which never came then reminded 2 waiters about it before they even started making it. Seriously could have made a better smoothie at home and not wasted my time or $$.

Beautiful cafe with good decor base on blue and gold theme. Love the decor so much plus the nature  lightning, this place brings luxury but relaxing romantic atmosphere for customer. Feel like I was in Paris. At the time I arrived kitchen was already closed so I had coffee and almond croissant. Don't know if they use the same blend from code black as Oporator25  which has smoky flavor (I love it so much) but I could not taste it here at all and coffee was quite milky then I expected. Short black was good and well balanced. Top notch latte art no doubt. Almond croissant was good.

Middletown Cafe is Melbourne’s hottest new cafe located on High Street Prahran. It is the chic and stylish sister cafe of Operator 25. The moment you step in the cafe you will immediately notice the gorgeous fit. The luxe royal blue feature panels with gold and marble details – very feminine and chic, compared to the masculine and corporate feel they have at Operator 25! From what I hear, Randy and Valerie were inspired by the style of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

装修很漂亮,食物做的精致,细节到位,waffle很好吃,quinoa salad里的pickled cauliflower很好吃可是分量小,下次去试试肉类。<br/>Great decor, love the navy colour. Coffee waffle was really good. Quinoa salad was a bit small in portion, but the pickled cauliflower was my favourite. Coffee could be better. Gonna try some meat dishes next time.
