Review Shiva Indian Cuisine - Prahran

Justin Maclean
So I ordered a Large Vindaloo, and they just kept filling the container with sauce! At $25.00 for a take away curry, I consider this outrageous!

Today was my first visit and Sachin ( the owner ) suggested me to try their speciality - Chole Bhature. He claimed that they were the best in Melbourne and he was absolutely right! Chole were full of flavour and Bhature were soft. It was served with pickle and onions. Chilled Mango Lassi along with it was absolute delight. Overall a very satisfying experience. Great lunch along with good conversations with Sachin. Highly recommended and I will definitely be visiting it again.

Worst and most over priced Indian I’ve ever had. Rice was undercooked, asked for Spicey butter chicken and they gave me mild bland gross butter chicken. Didn’t eat meal, regret buying from here

What a great caterer. Sachin and his team are such a helpful bunch. They have personalised and catered to all our requests. They have done many parties for us in the past but the most recent one was for my husbands 40th Birthday. Thank you the amazing food, amazing service and the amazing presentation. Everything was perfect- from taste to the quality to the presentation. Every minute detail was taken care of. We are really thankful for your great service.

Food quality absolutely fantastic, the butter chicken was so silky velvety smooth, it is to die for. The chicken Korma is also fantastic, I think anything you order from there is going to be delicious. Customer service is great too, however we witnessed some unprofessional behaviour from an old man who works there towards another staff member which was a bit concerning, otherwise I would have given 5 stars or even 6 if I could. I've also had a chance to try their south India Sunday brunch, it was amazing though a bit pricey but definitely encourage others to try.

Worst food i ever had . I found hair in chickpeas and just had samosa there. Now i am sick badly. Not recommended.

Excellent vegetarian food and well priced. Would highly recommend!!

Shiva Indian Cuisine is the place to call for quality Indian food and excellent catering They make best North Indian Food in Melbourne and their catering service is amazingly perfect with friendly staff and chefs.

At Food Truck Park in Preston... Just had Aloo Tikka then went back for Tandoori Curry! Brilliant!
Shiv
Among the few Indian restaurants in the city which serve really good and authentic butter chicken. The samosas and Indian breads are tasty too! Not to forget how friendly and warm the owners and staff are. :)

Shiva's one of the best spots in the area for Indian takeaway or delivery. They make an amazing palak paneer and even better veg kofta. Serves aren't huge but quality is good. The naan is soft with the right amount of chew and the samosas are perfectly crispy with a well spiced filling. I'd order from here any day.

Very close to homemade Indian food. The portions are quite generous and the cooking avoids the excessive use of oils and butter . I could eat this everyday of the week!
Chetan
Had samosa chat in Melbourne show, it’s too small portion and too pricey, samosas are not hot either,
What a rubbish never again, check reviews before you go

This place is quality, I usually have a weird craving for Indian once every second month and this place is my outlet for it. The curries are always flavoursome and have a nice bit of kick!

Ordered through EatNow and the food was delicious. I like how you can order small curries. The vegetables of the day curry was delicious-along with the naan, saffron rice and rose lassi.

Had a hankering for Indian food, so we walked into Shiva. We ordered the Malai Kofta, Seekh Kebab, The Chicken Curry and Saffron Rice. Loved the Chickent and the Malai Kofta. The Seekh kebab was good but the quantity is quite less. We also got the Garlic Nan(Bread) to go with the Curries. A good experience and would surely go in again to try something new.
Tim
Ordered butter chicken as well as beef vindaloo and it was as plain as cardboard. Samosa and nana was nice but the curry really needs to lift.
Homer
Food is horrendous. I think curries are specially worse.
It is not worth it even at half it's current price. If you are looking for a decent restaurant, this is not the one. Yuck!

So I found by mistake and tried it while ago and thought yea decent Indian food is hard to find ill come again but never did. I got into a uber one night and started chatting to the driver as you do and he's like yea im a cook and it's a Indian restaurant near by as he was dropping me off in Prahran and passed my a card - yep this cook had business cards so I had to try it. He told me there garlic nan is the best goong around amd he wasn't lying I mean i got delivery and it was still warm and fresh and the standards like butter chicken and lamb curry are done perfectly and stupid hot either. Try it out

We ordered 3 curries from here -- lentil, veggie and a butter chicken. They threw in a free samosa which was a nice treat. The curries all tasted very similar, like they used the same sauce and added the meat and veg separately. There wasn't much taste and very little spice used. The portions were small (hence we ordered 3 curries) and quite expensive at $70. This was enough food for 2 people. Being British I have high expectations for curry but sadly this fell below average.

Straight and out - Melbourne's east has way better Indian restaurants and take out than this one . The food wasn't tasty at all and it definitely over priced. Ordered tandoori chicken and biryani- both were extremely disappointing . Not recommended.

This is one of favourite Indian eateries in the area. The menu is not that of your conventional restaurant but more so a slightly modern take on North Indian food. I love that they have a lot of variety to cater to vegetarians, some of which I recommend are the veg korma, zucchini potato, yellow lentil, samosa.
Amanda
Their chicken makawala is really good and the malai kofta is highly recommended, high quality ingredients, only thing is that it's expensive here, parking can be very tricky around this place also
Ryan
No fuss place but good quality curry. Good Indian places are hard to come by in Australia but glad this is a local place. And it's BYO which is always a winner :-)

Tried out this place with a takeaway dinner box consisting of beef vindaloo and butter chicken on rice. I found the curries to be a bit one dimensional, could really only taste spiciness. Rice was well cooked. While it's no Indian fine dining, it's tasty enough for what you pay for. The samosas are huge, good value! Staff are friendly.

I went to shiva , ordered the chicken tikka with a freshly made Nann , very taste really enjoyed it , washed it down with a delicious mango lassie . Good job guys , will be back .

Gross! I had a lunch special - 2 curries and rice. It had NO flavour, no spice or anything!!! The service was friendly and the naan made in tandoor fresh. That's all i can think that was positive. Such a disappointment.

I've been going to Shiva for as long as I can remember. It's a slightly pricey for what you get quantity wise, but the quality is high and the service is great. It's a family run business and they know how to make authentic Indian cuisine. Every staff member at Shiva is very welcoming and friendly and it's easy to establish a rapport with them. It may not be the absolute best Indian in Melbourne, but it's pretty damn good, and more importantly, it's consistent. Check it out!

I recently moved in the area and was told by friends to visit Shiva for their butter chicken. On my way back from office, I went in to find 5 staff members and no customer and found it to be a bit odd. Owner introduced himself to me and "welcomed me to Prahran" once I told him that I just have moved in the area ! As I was wondering about them being 5 and me alone, their phone started to ring continuously and a family of 4 and a couple walked in. All of sudden the place was buzzing and as I was leaving I noticed all 5 were rushed off their feet ! Went home to have the best butter chicken with yummy garlic nan ! I am simply amazed !l

Best Indian food in Melbourne area !! delicious curries and soft breads...courteous staff and friendly environment. love going there again and again.

A great food and best in my life. As per my thinking you can't get more than that. Indian food hot and tasty. i tried dalmakahni and shahi panner was so tasty.
Chris
One of the best Indian meals I have had after a long time. This place is more like an institution. Been there forever !
Love the food and quick service. Honey Lamb and Veg biryani is to die for !!
Miro
One of the best Indian places I've ever been to. Do yourself a favour and get the chef's special Chicken Saag. This and their fluffy garlic naan were amazing. Great service too. Will definitely be back.

Really good food best in the area. Buttered Chicken is to die for. All good food Take away or eat in alikeIf you are in the area or not it is worth the visit.value for money and a happy smiling staff Good experience

Horrible curries with barely any meat and all sauce. The naan is delicious - but it's hard to do wrong. To add injury it's horrifically over priced.
ToorakM
Love this place. Great home delivery and only ever takes 30 minutes to Toorak - Butter chicken to die for full of breast meat fresh from the tandoor. Garlic naans always fresh and tasty and the rice is perfect. Love the raita and more a take away place than eat in.

Great food, great staff!. Had heard good things about Shiva and they didn't disappoint. Their butter chicken is excellent, as is the hospitality. Will definitely go back.
Mikta
Terribly disappointing. My wife and I love Indian food so we thought we'd try these guys. We tried 2 curry dishes and some Roti bread and were very underwhelmed. Both curries were bland and tasted watered down. The beef curry was chewy and tough and the bread didn't taste fresh. Very small serving sizes for the price. Would not recommend this place at all.

Wow. Loved the food here.
Superb quality and great service.
The food was tasty like Delhi and reminded me of Taj Hotel.
After a loooong search..... A place where Indian food tastes like Indian !!
Salahnasrin
The worst Indain food!. L usually love Indian food, but this restaurant put me off Indian food all together. Your chef needs to ho and eat at the Bombay by night on North rd to learn how to cook proper Indian food!
Laura W
Terrible Indian food. I have been here twice, the first time I stopped by at night and picked up food that was pre-cooked; it was terrible food but I put that down to my mistake in buying food that had been sitting on a hot plate for hours. The second time I ordered dishes to be cooked and it was quite simply the worst indian food I have ever had. The sauces had no substance, the rice was dry and the flavours were as mediocre as you could possibly get. It was a total disappointment, I would not recommend this eating establishment.

All i tasted was corriander .... All i tasted was corriander
Lacked that spice kick
Good nan bread though
Made fresh to order

Fantastic food. This is my go-to restaurant for Indian takeaway. They even do home deliveries, which always arrive when they say they will! The best malai kofta I have had in Melbourne.

Shiva has been established in Prahran for decades and has stood the test of time as high quality Indian food.

The forever friendly staff are always very welcoming when eating in or getting a take away. Can't go past their butter chicken, Dahl, fresh naan and maybe a veg samosa too.

Flavours- 4/5 (rich Indian flavours are yet to disappoint)
Service- 4/5 (I rarely get delivery but I've never waited long)
Decor-4/5 (CLEAN modern shop)

OVERALL- 4/5

Yay good indian. Melbourne does not have great Indian, everywhere is ok. Nowhere has blown me away but ill keep trying! Last night we stopped by Shiva for some sneaky takeaway. Everything was great, service was prompt and the staff where helpful. It was a but pricey but hey its Prahran, we can afford it. Will definitely be back to try some more!
Hungry Hippo
Always good, with staff who remember you even if you rarely go. Curries are not oily like other places. Butter Chicken is different to anywhere else in Melbourne. Goan Fish Curry a standout
Nihan Gencoglu
Not bad had much better. I found the food quite bland... I have had much better

Top notch take away. Have been getting takeaway from here for years now, can't go wrong ordering butter Chicken and garlic naan here. Its as good as those 2 dishes can get in Melbourne.
Bec Mayer
Great Authentic flavoured curries, a little pricey, but very yummy.
James
Not a huge fun, expensive yet they use the cheapest cuts of meat. If you are in this area go to Bedi's on Kings Way which is much better. The pinnacle of all Butter Chickens!
Nipun
Excellent Food!!. I have eaten at this takeaway for years. I think there food is awesome. Try the Chicken Meethi - it's a bit hot but really good!! I eat at Shiva often and I can guarantee you that you wouldn't be disappointed :) Love the service at Shiva - really friendly people!

Shiva- The restaurant to be. Shiva as the name says everything is the LORD of all the restaura nts. Neat n tidy interior, friendly staff, casual n fun enviroment. As I am vegetarian tried Pakora and Samosa and its top notch quality. Ordered Dal Makhani, Navaratan Korma and Mali Kofta for takeaway proved to be the same taste, aroma, quality and quantity as you get in a fine dining restaurant. To finish with Gulab jamun is the yummiest dessert I ever had. If I have to rate Shiva, I will rate it as 9/10. Thums up. Great work Chef! Highly Recommened.

The food is cooked to perfection. The service is too good. Don't have to wait long for take away. Try chicken jalfrezi that's to die for. Highly recommended restaurant. Can't wait for our next visit.

Chicken Methi. This chicken is usually there on Friday evening..........absolutely great. The fact that it was suggested by the boss there to me, it is my firm believe that they know what they are talking about.

Keep up the good work guys !!!

Do try there Tandoori Lamb chops..... a bit expensive but worth it .

Local delight. We have been going here & ordering delivery from them for years, and the food is consistently excellent. By far the best Indian around the area. The staff are always very friendly and food is prepared and served very quickly - they have a good variety including vegetarian options. When we order delivery, they are usually very quick too. Prices are slightly more than other Indians around Prahran but well worth it for authentic, delicious and fresh food. They stay open until 9.30pm which is good - and always willing to go the extra mile - for example we asked them where was still open to get milk at that time and they gave us one of theirs! It has become a family favourite.

Love it !!. I can absolutely vouch for their Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka & Samosas. Best I have ever had. I frequent this place quite a bit & it has not disappointed me even once. Friendly staff, quick service & an ever-welcoming Head Chef with a striking conversation add to a pleasing meal !!
Highly recommended

Local Delight. I used to work just up the street from this place and my colleagues and I decided to give it a go one lunchtime. We ordered the lunch packs, and although we were happy to pickup, the staff insisted on delivering free of charge as it was so close. We tucked into the chicken makhanwala and rice and were all very impressed and left with very full and satisfied stomachs. It became a regular go-to lunch option when we felt like something a bit special. I now work elsewhere, but still make the effort to pop in every now and again and am always greeted with a big smile. Highly Recommended.

Yum!. Have been to this restaurant a few times and the service has always been so friendly and the food is delicious. The butter chicken is a winner!
Nick
Butter chicken. The butter chicken is the best i've had. Everything else there i've tried is a bit average and over priced
