Review St Edmond - Prahran

Fitzroy Forager
Used to come here all the time for brunch and coffee when we lived in the area, and always enjoyed it. Ordered strong flat whites today and they were proper double-shot which was great. The poached eggs were poached perfectly and the friend eggs with mushrooms were perfect, simple but delicious. I also ordered chilli sauce on the side which went really well with the eggs. The service was warm & attentive, and the vibe is really chill, exactly what you want on a Saturday morning. Since I last went, there’s much more of a Japanese influence in the menu and even in the decor, which really suits well 👌🏾

Nice atmosphere although wouldn't be back in a hurry, if ever. One of the coffees were cold and the food was served cold. Need a saw to cut through the bread, extremely hard. Service was nice though, staff were present, attentive and helpful.

Visited St Edmonds just as the Melbourne restrictions were relaxed. Great cafe and vibe with super friendly and attentive wait staff. They managed the COVID restrictions like pro's which made us feel at ease. The courtyard is a great area to dine with your four-legged friends. The coffee was quick and delicious. The food was of incredible quality and also delicious. There was nothing to fault, overall an incredible post-lockdown brunch!!! Definitely recommend.

Absolutely love the backstreet local cafe vibe here. We came on a tip to try their Cornflake Crumbed French Toast and were definitely not disappointed. Aside from the amazing french toast, they do top notch coffee and a range of super healthy cafe favourites. The vibe is comfortable and the service is welcoming. One of the best in Prahran.

Attentive staff, tended to things like refilling water without being asked. I had the chili scramble, which was good and had a nice kick to it. Portions were decent as well.

Great cafe with awesome outdoor space with heaters in winter that’s dog friendly. Vegan and can be made vegan options on the menu and great coffee menu. I had the roast cauliflower steak and a cold brew coffee (yay that they still have it even in winter)
Hyokyung Moon
Outdoor seating area was cute and a great vibe to catch up with friends. Food was delish especially my Hash Stack! The sauce was perfect and everything was well-balanced as well. We had to wait for our friends for quite a long time but the waiter was patient with us.

Best vegan cooked breakfast I’ve ever had. The service and food was outstanding. I went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning and ordered the vegan big breakfast, it was so tasty and fresh. It had the most delicious cooked spinach, mushrooms (I don’t know what they cooked these with but they were so delicious) and tomato with sourdough toast and hash brown. Such a nice treat after always having to just order the granola breakfast at most cafes because there’s nothing else vegan that is delicious. Great chai also.

terrible treatment of customers. People deserve to be treated with respect

Go to St Edmonds often. Food is amazing and a great atmosphere.

Love St Edmonds! Great coffee and yummy food!

I'm IN love with your pulled-lamb. It all began in the ciabatta and now the Moroccan soup! What miraculous concoctions will follow?
Caroline Courtis
Best coffee every time!! Thank you xxx

The absolute worst service. Staff are so rude, treated us like we were unwanted. Told us to move into the rain, my friend needed a napkin as she was sick, and man asked "what for?" In the most condescending tone ever, knocked my knee with the specials board and did not apologise and to top it all off we were rudely told to move out of the way when waiting for takeaway. Awful attitude, I'm appalled. Will not be going back.

A huge THANK YOU

Always looked after it feels like family

The cafe has paid below award rates for its staff members.

Love me some duck tacos! <br/>So fresh & full of flavour! 🙌 perfect for lunch, Mexican inspired!! <br/><br/>This place is a hiddem gem away from the hustle of prahran! Cute out door court yard, beautiful coffee & fresh juices on offer here. A must visit if you’re in the area!

My partner and I came across this cafe and decided to pop in for brunch while wondering around Greville St. In an excellent location, the cafe had a very homely atmosphere and the staff were very cheery and friendly, however upon being seated it took a while before we were given menus and then again before anyone came back to take our orders. Following that though, the food came out promptly and we were pleasantly surprised by how vividly bright and delicious they were. They appear to change the menus seasonally, as the menu in Zomato is not quite the same as the one we chose from. We ordered the Eggs Benedict with Bloody Mary hollandaise on a potato hash, and pea and mint fritters with poached eggs, tabbouleh and beetroot hummus. The Bloody Mary hollandaise packed a delightful punch and the fritters were surprisingly light and crispy. The coffee wasn’t my favourite, but I would still visit again for the food in the future, and maybe grab a coffee elsewhere after.

In Short: We came to St. Edmonds cafe on a tip to find the best French Toast in Prahran and we found it in the Cornflake Crumbed French Toast. Back that up with brilliant coffee and a comfy backstreet vibe, and St. Edmonds is an essential element in the Prahran caféscape. <br/><br/>As a recently settled Melbournian, I still have to pinch myself when I think how lucky I am to live in a city with a street vibe that has few rivals. Take another step off the high street and that backstreet vibe of designer grit, graffiti gallery, and hipster hideout, ratchets up to a whole other level.

Boasting a colorful and bright exterior I finally decided to try this cafe out. With seating indoors and outdoors I chose to sit outside. To eat I ordered the cornflake french toast and an espresso martini (been a hard day). Overall presentation was gorgeous, however unfortunately the dish lacked cohesiveness. The elements while nice on their own didn't seem to complement each other and the dish was rather small. Aditionally, the cornflakes seemed to loose the overall French toast taste.Lastly, while a small thing I'd personally prefer to see an espresso martini served in the correct glass. The taste was spot on but the glass does make a slight difference to the overall presentation. Overall, the dish didn't leave me feeling full which was a shame. My rating 6.5/10, not bad but little things could make it amazing.

Decided to give this place a try after running errands nearby, and ended up being pleasantly surprised with the experience. <br/>It was a lovely day and the cafe has large windows which let in lots of natural light, giving it a welcoming and cosy atmosphere. There is also a lovely spacious courtyard area perfect for sitting in on warm days. <br/>My partner and I ordered an iced latte, the summer lovin’ (apple, pineapple, mint) juice, the special of the day which was a wagyu beef burger with fries, and the superbowl with shredded chicken. <br/>Both drinks were good, perfect for combatting the hot day. The wagyu beef burger was tasty and well-balanced, the caramelised onions especially providing it with that extra flavourful kick. The fries were crispy and nice; the perfect accompaniment for the burger. <br/>The superbowl was packed full of fresh ingredients - with the star being the pickled cabbage and pickled ginger. There was no dressing or sauce with the dish, instead the pickles brought all the ingredients together and gave it a subtle tang that acted as “the dressing”. It was really tasty and filling.<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

Found my new go-to lunch, that is the Brekkie Greens in St Edmonds. The kale makes your tummy full and having grains/almonds adds that nice crunch. I don’t know about you, but I get more satisfied with my food when there’s a crunchy texture in my meal. I recommend it, especially for sunny days where you want something fresh. Staff are friendly bunch of people.
Kate Dougherty
Was a little bit chilly in the courtyard but the staff were friendly and the food came out quickly. I had the prawn and coconut scramble on toasted roti. A delicious and light brunch dish. I found the coffee a bit too strong though.
Lynne.mca84
Excellent food, coffee and service, always. This little gem is tucked away off Greville street in Prahan and had the cutest courtyard to enjoy.
Briony Barnard
Nice space and friendly staff however food was not so good. Both of us had the superfood bowl- flavours weren’t great and didn’t work together. Maybe just picked the wrong dish but think better options in the area.
Louise Booth
I rarely have an awful brunch in Melbourne but this was one. I ordered the veggie hash and assumed it would be full of vegetables.<br/><br/>I got a piece of toast, a fried potato hash brown and fried halloumi with a fried egg on. I ordered mushrooms as a side and they came only and salty.<br/>It was a beige platter... everything brown, fried and flavourless- really disappointing except for the coffee which was great.<br/>

So underrated! It's a small unassuming place right opposite Oscar Cooper, a bit hipster on the outside with minimalist signage, really easy to miss if you're not looking for it. The inside was pretty bustling and big though, staff/service was attentive, patient and friendly. I tried their special chilli/ginger hot choc, so yummy and unique. The food was unique and pretty yummy as well, my friend and I will definitely be back!
Amelia South Yarra
I came here for breakfast with my partner a couple of weeks ago. We'd walked past this place a few times but thought it might be really hipster and not our thing. We were pleasantly surprised! Great service and delicious meals. My partner had a burger and I had a potato roesti thing (my memory isn't great on what it was called on the menu but it was vegetarian and so yummy!). Nice coffee too. Would definitely recommend.
Sarah
LOVED my visit here for a late brekky! I went for the soba noodles with chicken and can easily say I would eat this for every meal if I could! There’s lots of competition around but this cafe was a standout for me in Prahran.
Dan McAlindon
Cute little cafe! I live in the area and it's great to find a place that caters for the 'locals'. We went Saturday & the place was packed! I had the brekky greens - delicious and healthy. My partner had the benedict and said it was amazing.  Good coffee and friendly service. Will definitely be back soon!
HJ
Its such a cute space and the coffee is great! Unfortunately the muffin I had was literally inedible. Hard, dry and also chewy? an accomplishment to make a muffin taste so bad. Would not recommend
Lauragphillips
My friend and I ordered two hot chocolates. Took more than 10 minutes, came luke warm, in a small coffee cup, and tasted like plain milk. Pretty disappointed. Only sort of reasonable thing was the price which was $4.00 still not worth it though.
Maddie Kingham
Came here today with my partner, Josh, for lunch. We had a table outside, which was nice, and our waitress was very friendly. For our food, I had the Brekkie Greens - which was delicious! - and Josh had the club sandwich with chips. Josh said the sandwich was really good, although the chips were just average.
Dam Burger
Tasty food but small serves! Another one of those breakfast that only serve one egg with the meal meaning you need to ask for an extra egg! It's breakfast, two eggs are required just charge more for the meal!

I haven't been to St Edmonds in years, used to get coffee from here when I used to work around the corner. Today's take away latte was perfect and it gave me the caffeine burst I needed. A smooth and creamy coffee made correctly. I have eaten here in the past and the food was good back then so wouldn't mind coming back for a bite. Decor of cafe is nice with a back outdoor seated area, very cosy and comfortable.
Stuck In Transit
With a day full of errands, I was in need a bit of refuelling before finishing the last bit of running around. I was in the Chapel/Greville Street area and thought I would pop into St Edmonds Cafe for a quick bite to eat. . ATMOSPHERE & SERVICE. Located just off Greville Street, I was drawn in by the colourful geometric graffiti that are painted on the front of the building. Here you will find two separate areas; the first is their main cafe with large coffee bar and a hand full of tables. The second is their funky outdoor dog friendly courtyard, with ample potted plants, wooden accents and comfy outdoor furniture.
Hungry Ronin
Great vibe fitting of its Prahran barrio, St Edmonds is able to consistently deliver great caffeine fix for me. The local following is a testament of its popularity; and despite the competition in the vicinity St Ed is able to amongst the top. The food is standard fare and may even be called unimaginative, but executed beautifully.

Favourite cafe in Melbourne!<br/>I've been coming to St Edmonds multiple times a week for years.<br/>The staff are excellent and manager Sam has done such an awesome job getting it to where it is now. Food is always awesome, so shout out to the chefs!<br/>Unfortunately the coffee has recently changed brands and it's a crap blend. Ditch the Au79 and bring back the old stuff.
Veggiesandcoffee
Delicious! Lovely food and great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Had the Brekkie greens and apple pineapple mint juice. Would definitely come back, nice and quiet in busy chapel st area

Gem of a find on Edmonds St! This place was round the corner from where I last lived and I was always intrigued by the bustling crowds on the weekends. I sat in for brunch one morning and had the most delicious pulled duck on super grain green salad for brekkie which was yum. The almond milk lattes were delicious and creamy too. Will need to go back.

Food: St. Edmonds put a healthy spin on brunch (or lunch) with a lot of their dishes, but you can still get some indulgent treats, if you fancy being not-so-healthy! I loved their big breakfast - it was tasty, filling and BIG! Their brekkie greens are also a great option if you want something a little lighter. Their coffee is also great. <br/><br/>Atmosphere/service: St. Edmonds have both an idea and a covered outdoor courtyard style eating area. We love the outdoor area, it's always lively and attracts a really mix of people. Tables are fairly small, so I'd try and book ahead if you are bringing a large group. Service is excellent. Staff are happy to chat about the menu and make recommendations, they are attentive and show a genuine interest. Real laid back atmosphere.<br/><br/>Would I recommend it: Definitely! Will it's possibly a little more pricey than some nearby places, you get good portion sizes and excellent food for your money. St. Edmonds have probably given us the best service we've had so far in Prahran, and they will go that extra mile to ensure you have a good experience.
Foodinfocusz
A smallish, busy cafe with real soul and a lovely outdoor area which boosts the space. Friendly staff especially the lovely lady who looked after us, thank you! Food great, so to the coffee … nothing more to say really!. Corn & Broccoli Fritters on Sesame Miso Tahini, Baby Cress, Fennel, Pomegranate Dressing

When you walk in you should or will be greeted by the biggest smile. Seriously good hostess with an abundant amount of energy. The owners are obviously experienced and know what customer service is all about.<br/>We ordered scrambled eggs on toast and two poached eggs on toast. I have to say mine were just about the best I've had in a very long time. " Superb"<br/>We ordered a coffee and a pot of strong English breakfast tea. The tea was strong but not hot just lukewarm....which was disappointing considering the exceptional experience WITH the coffee, service and food.<br/>Plenty of seating and funky as...well worth the visit.

Probably my fave breky joint in Melbourne. The ham hock, poached egg, smashed avo dish is superb. Decent coffee too and a great layout and vibe. I took my mum and dad here when they visited and she was initially OMG at a tattood guy making her breakfast, but was soon writing down the ingredients in her breky!
Tardar Sauce
Cute hipstery cafe just off Chapel. I had an earl grey and my friend had an almond latte with honey - both were great. Lots of pastries and biscuits in the window - looked yum. Staff are friendly. There's an outdoor area to the side. $8.40 for our coffee and tea.
Valina Whites
Good chai, good croissants. Partner had a egg and bacon roll, also yummy. Good service too- friendly enough, without being intrusive. Ambience as expected from a cafe in that area.
Dinermelb
Been wanting to try this place for ages. Pretty much the epitome of a Melbourne cafe.. layout, graffiti, courtyard, young crowd but with this one the food is really good.<br/><br/>"KFC" Korean fried burger with mayo was juicy, crispy and delicious all in one. Good portions too.<br/><br/>The other dish was the coconut and prawn scramble. Interesting dish. The Asian flavors worked well and the portion size was huge!! A must try if you are looking for a little something different from a breakfast dish.
Good Food Good Mood
The brightly coloured painted brick outside drew me into the sunny courtyard for breakfast. I was ecstatic that there was no wait as I was starving and ordered the smoothie bowl. Bf was pretty unimpressed with this place because they asked if he would like a second coffee despite failing to have brought the first one he ordered and then they burnt his avo toast. Mine was decent but nothing to warrant a return trip given there are plenty of other cafes nearby with better service. Hard to park and not worth the hassle <br/>
Ellie Stockley
Staff here are so awesome especially the kiwi chick :)<br/>Great food and coffee with a cool little courtyard out back! I always get smashed avo and a long black. Yum!
Paris Young
A favourite spot to WIP on a Monday. Delicious coffee, iced chai and breakfasts! Great courtyard for those warm spring and summer days; and awesome staff all year round.
Cat Broadby
Trendy little cafe in a trendy area. Food was so tasty and service was good. Pretty good pricing too actually. If I went back it would be hard to get something new as the salad I had last time was so tasty I couldn't fault it! Serving size was big but better than being too small
Sunni
best coffee I've had anywhere in Melbourne yet!<br/>and don't get me start with the dishes!<br/>healthy, creative and most of all they are cooked to perfect with creative use of spice and nuts that both keeping the dish interesting and an experience. <br/>and most credits goes to all the friendly staff one of the main reasons to go back for more!
Gregoire
Living close by and never had a chance to try it until today ! Cute little place, great food and excellent service ! #greenbreakie a must try

Gr8 place for breakfast- coffee was good- gr8 breakfast menu and everything I had was yummy- the place was packed and buzzing- nice courtyard area as well- overall very nice little place.

St. Edmonds is a great little haunt off Chapel St, definitely one of the better café's in the area. Outdoor area is prefect for a sunny weekend brunch. The food is great and healthy, coffee is good and staff are fairly laid back and friendly.
Kate
It's been over a year since I had been to St Edmonds but it was as enjoyable as ever. I've always been a fan of their Bircher, it's really tasty without being giant. The coffee is also nice and the service is really friendly. This place is one of my south side favourites
Muncher
I ordered the greens with poached eggs and it was magnificent. My partner had the chicken salad which was equally as good. Great little place and on my 3rd visit, it still didn't disappoint.
Food Comatose
Sure, this pocket-sized café brings charm to the backstreets of Prahran, but the food reeeeaaally let me down. The former garage retains an industrial feel with a roller door and polished concrete floors. The menu, although small, offers a range of breakfast and lunch dishes with an Asian twist.

EDMOND IS FAR FROM A 'SAINT'.<br/><br/>Sure, this pocket-sized café brings charm to the backstreets of Prahran, but the food reeeeaaally let me down.<br/><br/>The former garage retains an industrial feel with a roller door and polished concrete floors. The menu, although small, offers a range of breakfast and lunch dishes with an Asian twist.<br/><br/>We ordered the Toasted Quinoa Salad with lentils, chili, rocket, almond, salsa verde and extra spicy beef strips. The beef strips were so bland and chewy, we scrapped them to the side and picked at the rest of the salad. More disappointment followed when the Smoked Ocean Trout arrived, served with eggs, bearnaise, chili, caper and herbs on a potato rosti. The trout, eggs and rosti were all stone cold, completely throwing off my meal altogether.<br/><br/>We left hungry, grumpy and ripped off.<br/><br/>Sorry Edmond, but you're no Saint - you have sinned against the Melbournian Gospel of Brunch.
Croque Monster
Went for lunch with a group of friends. We were seated quickly, food was good apart from a stuff up with one order. The service needs work, we were served by basically everyone working in there so no one knew what was going on. The one waiter had no idea what he was serving us and just plonked plates wherever was closest.
Mariposa
An ex garage cafe who has maintained the garage theme in the decor with the cozy wooden furniture and denim clad staff. During a week day breakfast peak hour we were served by lovely and friendly staff (efficient service despite how busy it was!). Love the hustle and bustle and aroma of fresh coffee and toast in the air! My favorite menu item sampled here is the Maca green smoothie bowl! So fresh, healthy, colorful, light and at the same time filling with slow energy release and gluten free ; ) a guilt free pleasure!.. Several other tasty and hearty dishes on the menu!
Youonlygetoutwhatyoupoutine
Three of us stood there for 5 minutes and got ignored about 17 times, we were the only people waiting, no acknowledgement, no eye contact no smiles but plenty of staff?? I'd love to comment on the food but how can you if you can't even get served? <br/>The three of us did the obligatory "f this" went across the street to Oscar Cooper where we were immediately greeted with a friendly face and service even though they were busier! Chefs at St Edmonds you best ask for some help with service or your food will never reach the foodies.
Vikram
What a joke. Ordered a coffee didnt get one. Smashed avo on toast. Was just given a plate of bread with eggs avacado thrown on top. Never to return. Worst breakfast in melbourne
Li-La
Really cool small place with a tiny outdoor area in vibrant Prahran. Busy on weekends so be ready to wait. Delicious brunch and coffee and friendly staff. We have been going back there regularly.

New review rating 2.0<br/>This review is strictly for personality and attitude of the servers. Recently a few of them have come across as though serving customers is the last thing they want to be doing. Un-smiling, disinterested, with sour looks. Boo on them. <br/><br/>Previous review rating 4.0<br/>My Saturday brunch spot. After 7-8 visits, what I love about this place is its consistency. Consistently great coffee (long black please!), consistently delicious food (working my way through the menu), consistently good service, consistently good vibe. No pretentiousness, no attitude, and a great mix of customers. Good coffee, good food, good staff.
Mike Norbert Songcuan
Walked in, they were pretty busy. but staff all really friendly. Avo smash was probably the best I've had in a while. Cold drip was delish.
Cranky Veg
Great coffee, great food – probably the best bircher in Melbourne. The takeout menu provides very well-priced, slightly stripped down options of the eat in menu, the courtyard is gorgeous, and I've found the service to be warm (and fast) on every visit. Best breakfast spot on Greville Street for my money.
Helen
Living locally I have been to St Edmond's a number of times. The food and coffee is always excellent however the service is consistently a let down. The staff appear disinterested in providing good quality service on every visit. On sitting down it takes a while to get a menu, then a long wait to order drinks and a further wait to order food. Staff appear bored or fed up when they come to the table and trying to pay is equally time consuming, standing at the till waiting for staff to finish their conversation before attending to you. Over the years I've been served by a number of staff all with the same 'too cool' attitude to serve you, don't know if they start like this or it rubs off on them.<br/>On a side note they don't split bills, EVER! No paying part cash and part card for a large bill.
Afarman
Pretty good. Nice little place off Greville St. Great atmosphere. Coffee is good, food is good. Definitely will go back. Well done St Edmunds.
Antigone
I've only been to St Edmonds once, but I had a great experience. I ordered the eggs Benedict which was beautiful!! The service was fast, the food was great although the menu doesn't have many choices. All in all, I would go back for a quick meal or coffee!
Natasha Juchkov (Culinary Runway)
Last few weeks of hospital placement meant I had to try as many nearby brunch places for the year as I could, before I am banished to the outer suburbs of south-east Melbourne next year. St Edmonds in Prahran is a conveniently located cafe with a great courtyard dining area.
Lulu T. Legrand
VIBRANT CAFE WITH GREAT BRUNCHES -- St Edmonds is a really cool vibrant cafe, with wonderful stylish premises and a menu  that satisfies both the carnivore and the vegan in you; they also have specials of the day, something I always love.  <br/><br/>My raw zucchini 'noodles' salad with added trout was not pretty to look at it, but it was excellent. A good serving portion of very fresh raw ingredients, the trout cooked wonderfully medium rare, and a sauce packed with flavour enveloping all the ingredients. Absolutely yummy. <br/><br/>Coffee was beautifully prepared and good, but it is on the strong side, so it might not be your thing if you are into smooth coffee. I liked it.  <br/><br/>The layout, style and vibe of the place are very much my cup of tea, but a bit too noisy.  The music was too loud, which forced some people to speak quite loudly. However, the courtyard has somewhat a more relaxed and quiet atmosphere even though was also full<br/><br/>St Edmonds was fully packed with patrons from all ages when I visited, with a short cue at the door. Really, I like the cafe and the food, but I don't think it is worth the cue! My opinion. <br/><br/>Service was matter of fact.
Nancy
A funky little cafe tucked away just off Greville St in Prahran. We ordered the poached eggs on sourdough - really tasty. Coffee was good too. Will definitely return to explore their menu. Oh and it's the one with all the graffiti on the outside! John Isaac

Great set up. Good location. Cool open area and delicious, creatively presented food. Service was ok. Will be back for sure.........,,,,,,,...

Ok, so I noticed something today, Melbourne has a lot of dog friendly places that not a lot of people know about. Mostly, the people who are in the know are the locals. Well that’s why we are here!. St Edmonds is just another one, and one that we quite enjoyed! Thanks to a tip off by a good friend of ours, we had to pop in and check this place out! 😀

Being invited to come to Prahan and dine at St Edmonds two months ago (I didn’t have time to blog about it before I dashed off overseas!) came at the perfect time as I was feeling rundown and in need of nourishment which is exactly what this cafe provides. Hidden down a quieter street off Chapel St in Prahan, this grungy hole in the wall hosts a great outdoor area and extensive menu. When we visited, we were lucky enough to have a Winter day where the sun decided to pay Melbourne a visit and sitting in their courtyard with our sunglasses on and indulging in some healthy brunch options was the perfect way to while away a Saturday morning.

Incredible food and service. Great vibe and even better coffee. I have all the time in the world for this place. A cafe that embodies the essence of Melbourne culture.
Hungry
Pretty good overall. Great venue, good food but nothing amazing.

Breakfast with bacon and eggs on a crusty bread was brilliant. The Wi-Fi was excellent which was kind of important given that I was dinning on my own. Nice to see a dog friendly cafe it really makes it a happy place.

I cannot count the number of times I've been to St Edmonds and there's no denying that in recent years it's gone downhill. Even though it's kind of shit I'll probably go back because it's conveniently located and there's rarely a wait for a table. I always want to go to Oscar Cooper for brunch and then can't be bothered waiting ages for a table so I mosey over to St Edmonds hoping for a better experience than my last. I'm always disappointed. <br/><br/>I went last week and had poached eggs on multigrain with a side of avocado and mushrooms. How in the world can you screw this up? Even I could make this dish and I can barely use a toaster. The slice of bread was the size of my midget palm, the smashed avocado was freezing because clearly it had just been taken out of the fridge, and the mushrooms tasted like garlic (not fresh garlic, powdered garlic) and salt. The egg itself was alright though. Surprisingly this time around the staff were pretty nice, so that was kind of cool. Give it a try and prove me wrong. Peace.
Daniel
Nice atmosphere, dog friendly, friendly staff. Loved the bircher muesli with pomegranate, passionfruit and coconut. Could eat that every morning on the way to work. Really comfortable place to sit down and relax and enjoy good food, some places just don't have it, this place does.
Ella Molnar
Great service and atmosphere at this destination cafe just off Greville St. I feel that it really represents the Melbourne Cafe scene. Delicious menu, hard to choose from. I had the maca green smoothie bowl w/ avo, banana, mango, spinach, pistachio, oats & fresh berries w/ choc granola underneath. Staff were friendly and great range of snacks/lunches to take on the go. Will be back!
World In A Bite
Good coffee, quirky cafe, the foods were average.... We ordered the bowl & just normal raisin toastes.. I'll be back again for bigger breakfast next time 😊
OmNom
Would have been a 5 out of 5 experience if it wasn't due to a group of smokers were seated right next to us in the courtyard. That ruined it.
Melbourne Sights
Fantastic! I really enjoyed my time there. The menu is great full of healthy options. The staff is friendly and the coffee is amazing. 😄👍❤️
Ellie Laffner
One of my favourite cafes! The staff are friendly and provide great service. The menu offers a wide variety of food, catering for the health conscious as well as the hungover! ;)<br/>And love the set up of the cafe, great courtyard for when the sun is shining!
Foodiemelbourne
Loved this little cafe. A grungy hole in the wall in Prahran with a great outdoor area and extensive menu. I love trying new and different brunch options and it was fantastic being able to have such nourishing, healthy options to choose from. The breakfast greens with the trout was so delicious and filling, and I felt so good afterwards- being able to have salad for breakfast but still have it feel like a substantial, nourishing meal was excellent. The avocado smash on toast was great and coffee good too. Definitely a great spot for a wholefoods brunch right off Chapel St.
Ivy V. Thompson
We love the breaky greens and the almond lattes, some of the most nourishing food in town. Great atmosphere and good variety of paleo-friendly meals on the menu. Always fresh and delicious. :)

One of the best cafe's I've been to in Melbourne! Prompt and lovely service, "best coffee ever" according to my mother, and amazing food that came out so quickly we couldn't believe it! It's a shame I don't live closer, otherwise I would be having their Brekkie Greens every morning! Looking forward to my next trip there <br/>P.s. my parents would love it if you started selling your beans!
Bogan Mum
St. Edmonds has some of the best coffee I have ever had. This gem of a place is definitely worth checking out. I would even go as far to say that it's worth going to the south side for 😳
Roomain Liger
The service was good. The food was great , it tasted fresh we had avocado toast with poached egg and goat cheese and the other dish was slow cooked lamb toastie . Coffee were also very good !
BECCC
Fantastic coffee, food and staff a great little hidden spot and a regular of mine for many years can not go wrong with this cafe weekday or weekend.
Leon
Don't understand the hype. Waiters seemed a bit too arrogant and ready push me out. Plus food wasn't amazing.
Sabina Kuljuh
Best coffee ever. I never leave disappointed and the breakfast is spot on too...perfect poached eggs and the breakfast greens look so pretty! I always get food envy when I look around at other people's plates! Best of all the service is consistent and always welcoming.
Diar Riyanti
The place was hiding! I didn't realise there was such good restaurant with great atmosphere nearby. It was very comfy. Went there for lunch with my friend who showed me this hidden restaurant. The food was yummy. Will go back there again soon!
Rob
My local and default brunch restaurant in Melbourne. The coffee is consistently good and the food is always on par, fresh and flavoursome. The only fault is that the portions can occasionally be variable, on the small side. Most weeks it's a good portion size, but sometimes it can be noticeably smaller.<br/><br/>The breakie greens and poached eggs are pretty yum, but I always find it hard to go past the smashed avo and ham hock and poached eggs. Fantastic for a Saturday morning recovery after a bigger than expected friday night.<br/><br/>It's a typically Melbourne place, with the space previously being a car repair garage but make sure you get in early on weekends, otherwise there will be a wait.
The Weekly Review
Adam Wilkinson gets points for sticking to a theme. His new all-day restaurant, crafted in the shell of an old garage at the rear of Greville Street in Prahran, is determinedly based on a workshop – from its oil-stained polished concrete floor to the “work-card” menus inside manila envelopes. The staff wear logo-emblazoned denim overalls; old wire-encased workshop lights hang from a few of the walls; the roller door has been retained and sugar glasses were chosen because they looked like crushed plastic cups.

I wouldn't normally post about restaurants and cafes but this time I'm making an exception because two friends have just opened a designers dream cafe in Prahran, Australia. The venue itself was put together with the help of Project of Imagination and the keen eye of Adam Wilkinson and Luke Lalor. It's not until you enter the premise that you really notice the attention to detail which the boys have delivered for their patrons. St Edmonds is a truly creative and inspiring venue. If you're ever nearby getting your fashion retail fix in Melbourne's Chapel Street, then I recommend visiting. SEE MORE PHOTOS HERE

Quiet but hip alternative to surrounding establishments. Food is modern and will appeal to those looking for a meal off the beaten track. Breakfast Greens was recommended by urbanlist, and while it seeps of healthiness the taste gets old quickly. Coffee is very mild tasting for those preferring a stronger drop. Caters a decent dinner menu Thu-Sun

After coming here 4 times, twice for food twice for just coffee, I won't be coming back, even though it's conveniently local. The servers are sullen and indifferent. Once I came in for just a coffee, they had three staff and 5/6 customers, and I waited 10 minutes for my coffee while the barista and one of the waiters chatted with their arms crossed, when I asked how far away it was it hadn't even been ordered. Also recently I had to go to them to ask for a menu as they weren't watching the floor, then when I eventually ordered after waiting ages to see someone, they messed up my breakfast order and though they offered to change it I was hungry and just ate what they gave me. <br/>It's a lovely venue in a great location, so unfortunate the staff pay no attention to detail and clearly don't want to be there.

Awesome service, awesome coffee, awesome courtyard!

What Coffee...Too good. Would love to go back to these guys for their take away coffee, happy service, quick and tasty and great ambience!!!

Awful.. Took 20 minutes to get a toasted sandwich which was literally burnt black. Didn't have time to ask for anything else. Definitely wouldn't go back.
Burgers Of Melbourne
Order: St Edmond’s Wagyu Beef Burger $16 - Overall, a great tasting burger and a place I would go back to and recommend. The wagyu beef burger was very easy to eat and was very satisfying. I was a little disappointed in the presentation of the burger, the bread and the cleanliness of the meal. The bread was squashed when it had come out before I had even picked it up. At the end of the meal, there was juice all over my hands as well as a big pile of juice left on the board it came out in. The meat and flavours were up with the best which is why I would 100% order this burger again if I went here again.

Luckily, I threw caution to the wind and thought – What the hell, let’s just go and see what this place is all about! And I am really glad that I did. St Edmonds is a small cafe just off Greville St in Prahran, down a street that is decorated with graffiti.

It stood out on the menu for me — I love Asian flavours and particularly like non-traditional breakfast fare (if I’m going to wake up early, it’s for more than bacon and eggs).<br/><br/>The omelette tasted good. The flavours were subtle but definitely there. It was a light start to the day. My only complaint: I wanted more (I can be a piggy at breakfast).<br/><br/>My bloke went for the breakfast burrito. With scrambled egg and a range of other fillings it was a heartier option that suited him just fine.<br/><br/>Breakfast burrito at St Edmonds

... I decided to grab the House bircher muesli with dried apricot, apple and toasted coconut. I am big fan of bircher and St Edmonds did not disappoint. Good quality oats, very fresh, the apricot and apple worked well together and the toasted coconut added some awesome taste and texture. Most importantly (for me at least) it was room temperature! Nothing ruins a good bircher

Judo, like many martial arts, teaches us that it is not about doing a technique – it’s about doing it with as little energy as possible. Breakfast makes no exception. One must do it with as little energy as possible (eating it, I mean). Sure, that possibility is many times negated by the fact that you spent those amazing 10 extra minutes in bed so now you must gulp down everything so you can catch the train. Otherwise, taking your time is a great way of enjoying life. A very European way, I guess, but great nonetheless. Savour it.
Dan From Melbourne
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The only disappointment was that it took multiple requests to get our bill before we could leave, especially after having such speedy service when ordering and receiving our food.

St Edmonds is an all out food/coffee/alcohol destination; working around the clock providing breakfast, lunch and dinners (most nights). It is truly great to see a place like this come up in the area, especially with so many places on downhill slope. I have been proven you can go against the grain and it’s likely that you will think the same.

Love this place. Great coffee, friendly staff and a really nice, relaxed vibe. Recommend the Bircher muesli, best I've tried. 10/10

A decent breakfast option. I visited St Edmonds this morning (Sunday) for breakfast & despite a slow start quite enjoyed the experience. <br/><br/>We seated ourselves outside & although service wasn't as attentive as I would have liked (it took a while to receive menus & place our orders), the menu was to my liking as was the food.<br/><br/>I enjoyed the raw kale & broccoli salad with avocado, buckwheat, pistachios & pulled duck, which was topped with 2 poached eggs.<br/><br/>It was HUGE! It may sound healthy but was certainly filling & satisfying- so much so that I had to ask my male companion to finish it for me.<br/><br/>Yum :)

Its back!. Much better under new management. Cane pre-Christmas and swore I'd never come back. But, it was great. LAMB TOASTIE YUM YUM

New & improved vibe. Yep, this place has had it's fair share of negative reviews. However, walking in this morning, you could feel the positive energy from the floor staff and buzz in the environment! New management in place, smiles on staff members, WIFi (finally!) and some new bites to try from the menu. <br/><br/>They've come a long way from bad consumer feedback and have made some serious changes across the board to get things back on track. Felt like a totally different cafe today, to last month when I visited. <br/><br/>Worth a re-visit if you've had a bad past experience. Always willing to give a local business a second chance! Keep it up guys.

New & improved. St Edmonds has always been a cool place in my opinion. However now under the new management, it seems like a totally fresh, hip new place and I recommend everyone to try it or revisit it. Excellent wait staff especially the beautiful women, incredible coffee and food. Such a nice environment with the old manager gone. Go stedmonds!!

Tired of St Edmonds. Every time I go here there is always some type of issue.<br/>Over the last number of recent visits I have experienced.<br/><br/>○ Cold/poor quality food - especially at their prices you shouldn't be getting that.<br/>○ Slow service - Waiting 45 minutes without any explanation is frustrating <br/>○ Forgetting parts of orders - that's a usual classic<br/>○ & Rude staff - I can't stress this enough. <br/><br/>I enjoy the food but every time I go it's one thing after another, leaving a me frustrated I came in the first place.

Much better under new management. Happier staff, warm service and a nice place to be. Absolutely love the breaks greens and the coffee is incredible. Well done guys for turning this around!<br/><br/><br/>-----17 Oct, 2014-----<br/><br/>I always feel like an intruder. If it wasn't for this I would come more often because it's so close. Lovely coffee and tasty food but don't expect a warm welcome or service with a smile...seriously guys get over yourselves with the too-cool-for-school attitudes towards customers. It always leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I'm surprised they won't make this simple, but crucial change. Being friendly is not hard.
Sharnxox
Angry bearded man... Angry hipsters here, there's this one guy who actually made my friend cry. I don't understand why someone who doesn't like customers would get a job in customer service? Maybe he should do the accounts in the back... Food for thought.
Claire
Bad experience. I have visited this cafe 2 times before and have enjoyed the food and coffee, service was ok, a little unfriendly.<br/>I visited this cafe Sunday and wish I had not bothered. I ordered two iced chocolates, two pork sliders, one beef burger and one breakfast. I had to send back the drinks as they tasted disgusting and had no ice cream, just milk and a slight chocolate taste with ice cubes. After a long wait, the food came out and the pork sliders were cold, just like they had come out of the fridge and were a slimy mess, we sent them back to the kitchen. The sliders came to us only slightly reheated and not remade. The pork tasted bland and had no colour. The service was appalling, the young waitress just plonked the plates down with no apology and did not check to see if the sliders were better. I have worked in a cafe and I would have been very apologetic to the customer and checked to make sure the food was better. The waitress did not seemed bothered at all and quite frankly should not be working in this industry at all. If this was my business, I would be very worried. When paying the bill, the barista was very helpful and apologetic and deducted money off our pork sliders. I have to say that I will never return to this cafe. Employ staff that smile, It does not cost anything to smile.
Ge_nolet
Good service - takes ages to get served. My friend and I went there for brunch on a week day. Despite the place only had a couple of tables occupied, we waited for about half an hour to get our food. Coffee was ok and the waitress was also nice, but the food was average. Don't think I'm going to go back...
Mark
Went and had lunch on the weekend here and while some of the food was good, what really stood out was the poor service and the even worse attitude of management. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere that appreciates your business
Geoff Germantis
The wait staff are quite nice but it is extremely strange as to how they can continue to get things so wrong. It was only after speaking to the manager as to why how I realised why this cafe is struggling as much as it is. A message to the owner of this place... You can't have a manage with terrible people skills running a cafe because it is going to show throughout the business. The 4 most important assets to any business are people people people and people. Management must improve or this cafe will continue to get rated the way it has been. Just walk into "Jukes" and take notes.

Lovely singleton winter warmer. Went to meet a friend for lunch at st edmonds but she was a late cancellation so i ended up on own. not so sad to be at a clean sunny table on a cold winter's day with a coffee and the paper, a rare solitary luxury. midweek not as busy as weekends. staff were friendly & efficient, didn't ask me to move or speed up once i'd confirmed i was to be dining on own after all. coffee & lamb soup were absoutely delicious. i was a bit hesitant about staying on own, having read some of these reviews, but the staff were just fine. it got really busy just as i was leaving, so perhaps i got my timing right for once. thanks for a lovely private break.

Says open until 5pm on Saturday, was closing at 3pm.... Make sure to have a backup plan if you want to go there as it might be closed even if their Facebook page says open...

Single shamed. Horrible customer service... After taking a seat alone when the cafe was empty in the early morning I didn't get served for a good half and hour as it was thought I was waiting for someone (assumed). I sat at a table in the corner which was for four but when I took that seat nobody was there. When it started to get busier I asked the male staff member if he would like me to move to which he said no. Midway through my meal five minutes later he comes back asking me to move and makes the comment that if I am ever going to a cafe alone I really shouldn't sit at a table for more than two. Working in hospitality myself, his attitude from when I arrived was far from good customer service as I am sure the others seated around me would agree. I finished my meal (which was lovely) but it's a shame as I will never be back.

Really nice coffee and lunch special. Breakfast leaves a bit to be desired, but overall a nice little spot

So good I came up with a new word.... Actualoutely: As in; actualoutely amazing. The words I used to describe the big breakfast in St Edmonds. I wouldn't normally be a fan of tomatoes as part of a breakfast. However, they serve the tomatoes with melted cheese on top. This gets two thumbs up from me. I wanted to shake the chefs hand when I'd finished. <br/><br/>Having planned on going elsewhere in the area, I had a look at the menu as I walked past. The decision was made to try out a breakfast at St. Edmonds. It was the right decision. Great coffee, great food, friendly staff, excellent layout. Very surprised to see poor reviews. I'll definitely be going again.

What a joke. Sat outside and ordered food and coffee but were asked to move inside which was fine. The bill was then brought to our table and we were told 'when you're ready guys' basically asking us to leave. I called the waitress back and said we only just got here 5-10 minutes ago and just ordered. She grabbed the bill and left then came back and said oh ok you were outside they just told me to give you the bill. no apology but that was ok just a mistake. We then waited a further 5-10 minutes and watched the newly seated table next to us receive their coffee, so I pulled the waitress over and said we had been here 20 minutes and the coffee's hadn't arrived yet the new table next to us had. Whilst the waitress was at the table a waiter arrived at the table with our coffee's and the waitress just pointed at them and smirked at me. I said oh ok there they are and the waiter bringing the coffee said it hasn't been 10 minutes mate. I certainly can't deal with back-chat from a place I am paying to serve me food so we got up and walked out. I'm sure the food is fine but the experience with some of the staff was a joke. Won't be going back and manager needs to work on staff attitude and customer service.
Jmergeanian
I wish I could have thrown up that food. This place was horrible from start to finish. The coffee was disgusting (had a weird sour taste to it), food was so bland it was painful to eat, and the service was horrendous to round out the bad experience. If I leave nearly my whole meal on the plate, I think you should ask why I didn't eat any of it. <br/><br/>Cool vibe to the place, but no cool vibe in the world could overcome how horrible the food and coffee were.
ClareWind
Great!. Surprised to read bad reviews about the service here. When it first opened I recall waiting aaaages for a take away coffee, but more recently I've found the service friendly and efficient (maybe I've just managed to avoid the infamous owner!). Have had the mushrooms, the pulled pork bun, the pork eggs ben - all have been great and reasonably priced.

Cold and Small. Sunday morning was a busy morning in and around this restaurant. We decided to visit St.Edmonds as we hadn't been there before. Service lacked speed and efficiency. Coffee was cold and at least 1/3 of my latte was froth! My Fried Squid was worse yet. Not much squid, in amongst hardly any lettuce and very cherry tomatoes. Was starving within half an hour of leaving this place. Wouldn't go back!
Missy
Consistent. Always great food and service<br/>Love the staff<br/>Best bloody Mary in town<br/>Smiley coffee guy is....well...really smiley<br/>Can't fault it (except on a really hot day)

Cool little place. This is a great little cafe with good coffee and yummy food. The courtyard to the side of the venue is lovely. A nice place to do brunch and the staff are really friendly.

Delicious Breakfast!. Have been here twice for food, the first time was for porridge and it was amazing, very light and fluffy. It was a massive portion, with bananas and honey? I don't remember 100%, just that it was lovely.<br/><br/>The second time was this morning, I had the zucchini and corn fritters which comes with smoked salmon, pickles, salmon roe, pickled onion, dill, everything in this dish worked beautifully, it was delicious!!!! My friend said his breakfast (eggs benny w/ham hock) was the best he had EVER had!<br/><br/>The service has been consistently laid back and friendly. And its just a cool little place with nice decor and court yard.
Kiwidakini
Pity about the ambivalent reviews. St Ed's serves up some of the most consistently good coffee in my experience.
Jeremy
Great little cafe. Loved the rustic feel. Eggs Benedict was on point - probably one of the better ones I've had. Will definitely be returning.
Frog
Hipster cool. I was most surprised how good the $11 porridge breakie was: fantastic grilled banana (actually caramelized with a crunchy layer of brown sugar), most interesting quinoa topping to pretend to be healthy, and such a generous helping I could not finish it. The sandwiches were also very appealing. I was however not impressed with the ho so tiny short black, and the side of soda water was too salty to complement the too biter coffee; mind you other people actually loved this. Come early if you want to avoid the hipster crush.
Malisa1489
Malisa_lovecat. Great cafe with super friendly staff. was having a pretty crappy morning and the guys there managed to make me feel a much better and plus I had a pretty good breaky of mushrooms on toast. definitely rate it!
Yes
Ok guys.....one of the worst experiences for quite a while. Too many stuff ups. Lack of attention to detail, to service, to cleanliness. Other places simply do it better. And if you charge above your competitors, you might want to produce better quality muffins and, I don't know, maybe get my order right...three times!
Melbournefoodie333
Such great friendly staff and consistently delicious food
Ifmyfingerswerepens
Very Melbourne. Good coffee. The dinning room is so lovely you wish it was your home.

Will be back soon!. Great set up, and service. Great variety on menu. Have had several breakfast dishes, generous portions, and good coffee! Detailed presentation of food. Quinoa salad is on of my favourites! If you're in the neighbourhood or happen to be walking past, great casual brunch date place.
Samantha_georges
The food at St. Edmond's is really good, i definitely would recommend the quinoa and lamb salad that they have. The atmosphere outside is really nice and comfortable.

Awesome!. Great food, ive tried the pho, the burger and the quinoa salad and they're all amazing! Always great specials on the board and reasonably priced for such a good feed. Staff are great and always friendly. 10/10! :)
Steffanii
Will never return!. If you are a soy coffee drinker, do not go here. My coffee was burnt, curdled, bitter, by far the worst coffee I've had in Melbourne. The barista seemed to think it was purely a result of using bonsoy......ah, no mate, it's poor barista skills. <br/>This establishment obviously does not care for repeat patronage, as they were still content to charge for the undrinkable coffee, and the only apology offered, was the apology for still charging. <br/>In a city full of outstanding cafes and baristas, this experience is easily avoided. I will not return to St Edmonds and will encourage everyone I know to do the same.
Sonya M
Delicious food & coffee. Breakfast burrito a saviour after a big night.

Place to go. This cafe has a nice outdoor area with a great atmosphere. The customer service was great. The club sandwich was by far my most favourite dish. The meals are definitely worth it's value. You will not be disappointed.

Great atmosphere!. Got a table out in the sun the other day and was super relaxing! all the food is absolutely killer! all the guys in there are real cool people and real friendly. definitely worth checkin out! thanks guys

Coffee. The food is fantastic and the service is quick and the staff is very friendly. The coffee is very good quality and you know your paying for the best. Good location and overall a great place.

Definitely coming back. Great atmosphere both in and outdoors.<br/>Inviting and friendly staff and service was excellent. Probably one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Definitely recommend it if you're around Prahran, definitely coming back for that Burger

Coffee coffee coffee. So great to know I can always rely on the great team at st Edmonds to consistently deliver delicious coffee day after day!! The staff are always up for a chat and the atmosphere is spot on!!! <br/>Not only is the coffee top notch but the food is also. They mix it up with the specials board changing all the time - I'm never short of choice! <br/>One happy lady! Great work!

COOL PLACE. St Edmonds is in an awesome location on Greville street and has a great atmosphere. The food is great, the service is quick and the staff are friendly and baben. I would definitely recommend eating at this joint.

Amazing Club Sandwich. Went with friends on the weekend and got great table outside. staff were nice, they suggested the club sandwich and it was fantastic. Fun atmosphere and close to my Uni. <br/><br/>Definitely where im going for lunch for now on.

CLUB SANDWICHES!. Killer club sandwiches! St. Edmonds is a super cool place, great location with a great indoor area and a really nice outdoor courtyard! Service is quick and all the waiters are cool people, always friendly! and as I said, the club sandwiches are insanely good!
MAXI
Great Food, Great Coffee!. Went in during a busy Saturday morning and was immediately served and sat by the friendly staff. Ordered the wagyu burger & chips and really enjoyed the food (great presentation as well.)<br/><br/>Great location for me since I live just around the corner. Will definitely return. <br/><br/>8.5/10

Good muesli. Pleased with the service and the surroundings were very cute! Chai lattes were over priced and could of been better and as well as the fruit salad - some fruits were not ripe enough. The toasted muesli however was delicious! The best I've had in a long time! So I left very pleased. Cute place in a good location.
MunchOrCrunch
The food at St Edmonds is not bad and most of the staff, contrary to what most reviewers have said, are for the most part really nice. What I couldn't deal with is the attitude of the owner. I've never come across such a self important knob. I'll be damned if I ever put another one of my hard earned dollars in his pockets. This place gets a CRUNCH!
Bobby Boucher
Food is good.... But..... We went to St Edmonds for Breakfast/Lunch on Sunday about 12 after reading the review in the age 'cheap eats' guide.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was ok, it was busy but not packed. we went out the back and it was relatively comfortable. However, there were smokers and dogs about in a very small area. One couple kept their dog on their lap, which is fine, another let their dog run around licking people.... not exactly appetizing... Yes, nothing to do with the restaurant per say, but still a negative.<br/><br/>Another bugbear is that the cafe had the awning covering the terrace, on a cool sunny day, and then blasting heaters at every one... Not everyone cares about this sort of thing but wasting power is stupid in my books. I would have preferred the lovely sun.<br/><br/>Now for the food. Pretty good. I had a hamburger, which was quite tasty and nicely lean. My Partner had poached egg on smashed avocado with radish tomato and feta sourdough. Also good.<br/><br/>First coffee was pretty good even though the waiter didn't seem to comprehend 'flat white'. The second coffee was ok but again the same waiter couldn't get 'flat white'.<br/><br/>All throughout lunch the staff were at best average, very difficult to get their attention and it felt like we weren’t wanted there. I couldn't figure out if the waiter was just not listening, didn't care, or was deliberately obtuse. But when it came to pay the bill the staff were very rude. A definite air of pretentiousness and disregard for their patrons.<br/><br/>The food was also overpriced. You can get as good if not better food for much cheaper. We will not bother returning. There are far too many better options around.<br/><br/>TLDR: In Summary, good food. But pricy for what it is and terrible Service. Even though the food was good we don't recommend it.
Sugar
This place has the worst service you can get in Melbourne. Extremely rude staff and didnt say thank you even they were accepting our money and leaving the restaurant. Never experiened anything like this before. Food was so so and coffee was bitter. There are other nice places around that area so dont come to this one...
Froodette
I had a great long lunch in there this week. We had the slow braised lamb and quinoa last salad, and the Vietnamese coleslaw with chicken salad. Both were outstanding! Considering how long will in there we had great service from the staff who were very helpful, welcoming, and fun. Great service, great food, minimal pretension. I'll definitely be back, boys!
Mark
Hmmmm.... Went first thing in the morning so expect coffee to be at its best but it was bitter. Had two just to be sure the first wasn't an aberration.<br/><br/>Also ordered avocado on toast for my toddler. Two pieces of sourdough with a blob of mashed avo on the side. Fine. $11? Not so fine.
HB
Been here a few times and have really enjoyed the food and coffee. Interesting menu with something for everyone and every occasion. Also one of the best burger and chips I've had. Portion sizes leave nothing to be desired. Service is personable and light hearted with staff looking happy in their work and an atmosphere which is vibrant and a lot of fun.
Meghan Warren
Good food. Rude staff and service was terrible. Everything we asked for was a problem. Acted like the world owes them a favour. RUDE! All staff have attitude problems, especially the girl waitress. She was sarcastic and down right rude. Get it together!
Pammy
All good. Soufled omelette great, coffee above average. Service okay. Not a stand out.
Samuel Skuthorp
Amazing! Bircher Muesli was great, smashed avo on toast was fresh & the souffled omelette was delicious! Would definitely go again.
Lookhere
Food OK, good coffee. Service lame.<br/>Bye bye...
Penelope Chong
So good, I would eat here topless. Smashed avocado on toast with poached egg. Sometimes hamhock if I'm hungover...that is all!<br/><br/>Hot tip : they could speed up their service a tad bit
Swiss
Don't bother.... There are far too many great coffee venues in Prahran to waste any time on places such as St Edmonds. After waiting ten minutes to be acknowledged by any one of the four staff members on a quiet Sunday afternoon, i gave up and went elsewhere. The service was worse than a Myer store!<br/>I went to "Isit" a little further down the street and the service was instantly warm, friendly and inviting. Market Lane, Babble, ..there are dozens of other places - so my recommendation would be to enjoy your coffee elsewhere.
Gentors
Freaking amazeballs! Genuine service, not a single false hospo smile in sight. Coffee was rich and caramel-like. Mushrooms with ham hock was to die for. Porridge was creamy with well balanced sweetness. Will definitely be back...
Anna Onander
Downright rude & greedy. My friend and I ordered the tomato soup, which we found extremely spicy and difficult to consume on its own.<br/><br/>We made comment to the waitress to rectify this problem - like giving us some bread. She agreed and additionally offered some yoghurt.<br/><br/>At the end, we had a rude shock when they wanted to charge us $6 for two tiny scoops of yoghurt and $6 for two slices of bread. $12 all up to rectify their problem.<br/><br/>When we voiced our concerns of being overcharged - the manager snapped and the waitress' face went sour. They decided that we had eaten the bread and yoghurt so we were going to pay for it anyway. After a drawn-out argument, they decided that we still had to pay for the yoghurt, if not the bread.<br/><br/>We won't be going back again - the service level has dropped significantly since the last time and the rudeness is something no customer has to put up with.<br/><br/>P.s. I'm inclined not to believe the review by Shortz (below) because we told the manager at St Edmonds that we were going to write a bad review on Urbanspoon. Btw, Shortz only wrote one good review on Urbanspoon... and that was for the tomato soup @ St Edmonds on 5 May. Coincidence?
Stella Gold
Good coffee bad service. Always liked this place despite reports of bad service. Sadly getting a coffee order incorrect twice in a row, then being rude about it when we went to leave means I wont be coming back. I still like the coffee here but there are other places to go.
Steven English
This place is now my new regular coffee shop. Great coffee, more specifically to my taste: awesome mochas! ham cheese & tomato croissant is like no other! The best for a quick stop. <br/><br/>Only prolblem - coffee varies quite significantly depending on who makes it, i know how makes the average coffee and ill skip it when he is the barista.
Terry Long Mac
Bad Service & average Coffee. Not only was my coffee below the standard I would expect from a hip venue such as this the service was terrible. This place gives the Prahran precinct a BAD name. I will not be back.
Hungrygal
Perfection!. As soon as I entered I knew this was going to be good. Coffee was delicious(if you like it strong),the food was delicious and the staff were very onto it. The music topped off a good sunday brunch at St edmonds that we followed up with a beer just for an excuse to stay! Will definitely be back!
Holly Caroline
The spicy chicken roll with avocado salsa was simply amazing! From the first bite of chicken to the last bite of bread, the experience received by my taste buds was divine. Service by the adam squared team was brilliant, friendly and efficient, adding to the overall dining experience.
Erin
All-rounder. LOVE THIS PLACE! St Edmonds is one of my favourite places to visit in Melbourne. Service, food and atmosphere are all impeccable. A great place for a quick lunchtime snack, extended weekend brunch or a few drinks in the back courtyard. Thank you St Edmonds for always delivering!
Anna K
Breakfast best but no munch in the lunch. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had but also the most mediocre lunch I've ever had (smoked trout with barley salad). Was equally unimpressed by our waiter who paid more attention to his tatts and deliberatly deshevilled hair rather than the menu - could not explain the specials to us and told us to read the blackboard (I wanted to reply "okay Miss Jane!!!" but that would've been lost in the generation gap). <br/><br/>The lunch menu was littered with oh-so-trendy superfood grains that our ancestors enjoyed (because they didn't know any better and hadn't discovered nachos yet!!!).<br/><br/>Whilst this place is definitely worthwhile for breakfast, do yourself a favour and either have breakfast for lunch or dispense with $7 at nearby N.Tran Bakery for a killer (and superfood-free) Bbq Pork Salad Roll.
Lachie
Consistently excellent. Have been eating at st edmonds for well over a year now and can say with all honesty I have never had a bad meal. Menu is full of interest, well priced and changes regularly. Specials are spot on. Service is fast and friendly. Coffee is perfect - especially if you prefer it strong. Overall a great vibe, casual and not 'scene-y' at all.
Brunching Around
Not good, not bad. A bit overpriced. Coffee ok, a bit on the burnt side.

Yum. Saint Amazing!. St E's is one of my favourite spots to relax, eat a ripper breakfast and read the paper! Highly recommended!

Great coffee, great service, had the lamb ribs they were braised beautifully. Will be back!

Of all the choices for dining in Greville street I always find myself gravitating back to St Edmonds. I am not very often comfortable eating on my own at many cafes but St Eds is not intimidating, staff are friendly and the place has a great vibe. I have always found the service excellent and the menu always interesting. When I have friends in town I always take them to St Edmonds and they always leave impressed wether it be breakfast lunch or dinner or just a drink or coffee.

Great fun and food. Had a brilliant breakfast at St Edmond's this morning, outside in the sun it was gorgeous. The bircher was perfect, not too sweet and my boy had eggs that were creamy and delicious. The staff are a lot of fun, there is great energy in that place. Thanks guys we'll be back!

Love this place! Always great food, awesome service, the vibe is cool and the music always great. Adam is always cool and friendly and first it of he's way to make suggestions on food selection, friendly cool atmosphere! A new regular spot for sure!

Good food, good coffee, overall good experience!
Matthew Parkes
Love this place! Had their new breakfast menu, and it was spot on. Staff took my order on a very hot long black perfectly, and delivered. Close to best coffee (and they serve with sparkling water too:) in the area. Cool welcoming people,I really quite like the place!
Ilovefood
Rude and rushed. I had breakfast with 3 friends on a Sunday morning and we all agreed the staff were pretentious and rude. They rushed us to order (asked twice within 5 minutes of sitting down) and when they came to clean up - before I could answer that I wasn't finished (I still had a good half to go), the waiter had put my serviette on the food and took it away! They knocked me forward each and every time they passed our table and when i asked them to be more careful (maybe move through the space side ways?) I was treated as if I was a prima donna. To cap it off when we went to pay the bill they took their time chatting and refused to split (yes common but still demonstrates a lack of service). I was told 'yeah, we don't do that' which I read to mean 'we can put chose not to'. Sorry to put you out. A lack of customer service is rife in Melbourne but thanks to Urban Spoon we can take a little power back, and of course not return to cafes like St Edmonds.

Smiling ear to ear. I have now been to the adorable 'St Edmonds' on two separate occasion and I can honestly say I have been blown away by the venue, service, coffee and food both times. It is great value for money and such a cosy warm environment to hang with friends and enjoy outstanding food. The staff are the icing of top of the cake, they are relaxed, fun and get the job done. I find it very hard to come across great customer service these days without the staff coming across fake. I HIGHLY recommend that you go enjoy the menu, coffee, venue and staff as soon as possible.
Ruth Card
Not kid friendly. Charged $2.50 for a babycino and then served it scalding hot.
Brad Beecher
Beautiful courtyard, staffed by horribly pretentious hipsters with a vibe of "better things to do" than serving customers. Lovely coffee, but never hot enough.
Havoc Cannon
Mind-blowingly pretentious. "You can only have poached eggs on toast. Scrambled eggs aren't in the nature of the dish".<br/><br/>That was a line from an apparently sane and sober member of the St Edmonds staff when we went for breakfast.<br/><br/>This cafe is interesting as an exhibition of hipster stereotypes, but the food is bland, rubbery and woefully overpriced - presumably because anything else would compromise the art of frying cheap ingredients and putting them on toast.<br/><br/>Overall, St Edmonds is worth visiting to see the upper limits of pretentiousness and poor judgement in tattoo design, but of very little use as a place to eat.<br/><br/>For best results, get a McMuffin and pop by St Edmonds for a coffee, which is alright.
Missdelish
Disappointing experience overall. Had been wanting to visit for a long time, and a friend's interstate visit offered the perfect opportunity to show off a popular Melbourne place. I really wanted this place to be fantastic, and there was the odd glimpse, but the overall experience was disappointment.<br/><br/>At 10.30am on a Saturday morning it was almost full, and after a bit of a terse discussion between two staff (possibly the owner/manager), we were seated in the sunshine. Owner/manager thoughtfully drew across the canvas covering to provide some shade, and water arrived quickly and coffee orders taken. After that, the staff melted away a bit and had to be cornered almost to take food orders.<br/><br/>My corn fritters with smoked salmon, avocado and tomato relish sounded much better than it was. The fritters weren't cooked through, and the relish was more like a super hot kasundi. i like a bit of heat in my food and was willing to have it with breakfast but this was plainly inedible. The plastic stuck to the salmon was not a good look either.<br/><br/>My friend had the staff egg and bacon roll, and that seemed better, although she had a dollop of the tomato hotness to avoid also. Her coffees were good apparently, and l was relieved to find that her experience was better than mine. Bill came to just under $40.<br/><br/>I reckon there are better places that have the requisite tattooed hipster staff, generalist Melbourne breakfast menu and decent coffee, some in the same street...not inclined to go back anytime soon if at all....

Went on a buzzing Fri night and it was quite busy in the courtyard. we all had dinner, nothing was amazing but it was acceptable. Waiter was very friendly, service was put on tonight! Cocktails were nice. Ill be back maybe for brekky. Cheers guys

This restaurant appears to have the best looking staff in the neighbourhood... Sadly their fabulous looks and self admiration in every reflective surface slows customer service to a grinding halt. Unless you yourself are blessed with the ability to look like you've walked off the pages of this months Vogue, you can forget capturing the beautiful people's attention & any chance of ordering flies to the wind. The coffee was great however and food was acceptable, but by the time it turned up my amusement at the in house catwalk, the three people drying dishes whilst there was not one person clearing or serving the tables and the manager calming standing by the coffee machine putting spoons on saucers and carefully avoiding anyone's eye contact, turned into frustration. I would highly recommend heading to Babble around the corner, an unpretentious spot, serving fantastic food and coffee with none of the attitude the St Edmond models suffer with.
Snowhite
Good food. Have been there a few time recently and just as well the food was yummo as the service has been really hit and miss. Do like the menu though and if they can teach one of the waiters how to crack a smile it would be right up there.

Well.... I went there today for breakfast, and I loved it. Obviously it was a sleepy Tuesday morning in Prahran, but I found it excitingly lovely and relaxing. The music was perfect, Fleet Foxes, Isbells or something similar. Relaxing, hipster, and appropriate to the time and place, perfect actually. Coffee was great, service friendly, space amazing. I think the menu is great, offers everything you want, and if you want to go crazy you can. I did. The crab omelette was amazing! It was so good that I can't believe it can be so all the time, it could have been let down in so many ways: Little crab meat, bread, stuffing up the balance, as so many chefs do trying to do asian flavours with western training. I let my coffee go cold so I wouldn't miss anything. I will go back and see if it is as good again. I found the staff great, leaving you alone a bit, attentive a bit. Maybe it is different when they are busy. Coffee is not quick even when quiet, but well made and not cold. I really liked it. Maybe they fall down when it is busy? I don't know yet. My pepper grinder was empty on a Tuesday, as were the two on either side of me. Hate to use urban spoon for such a trivial thing, but maybe that is the sort of system thing that everyone else is whinging about. I loved it, made me feel great and inspired, people doing good stuff in a good space.
HungryHippo
It's a sad day when people write fake reviews for this shockingly bad cafe pretending that its not a hole. Service is the worst I've ever experienced. Food is nothing special whatsoever. Frankly, I couldn't recommend this place any less. Looking forward to seeing it close down soon due to lack of hospitality.
Lindy Hare
St Edmond is not the patron saint of good food!. Groovy space; friendly welcome.Tables are very close to each other so absolutely no chance of not sharing your secrets with the adjoining diners. We held out great hope for food to match the ambience, but alas, the soft shell crab roll came in a very big hard bready bread roll, meaning that the crab flavour was hard to find. Crispy fries on the side in a sweet little fryer basket of their own, were perfectly cooked. The pumpkin and feta tart sounded great but was a big disappointment with soggy filo pastry, uncooked on bottom, and the rather bland and dry filling consisting of a few lumps of feta, and a big pile of cubes of cooked but not crispy roasted pumpkin. the side salad was full of hazelnuts and pine nuts which had been sitting in the dressing for a long long time and were soggy and soft. It could be so much better. It was $40 for 2 of us for coffee and the 2 dishes. Although quite a bit for a quick lunch, I would be happy to pay that if it was delicious...but it was not. Please get better St Edmonds - you've got a good feel, and you are in a convenient spot. I'll give you one more try, but lift your game!
Eating Is My Passion
You would think that given its stunning location, delectable food and expensive menu, the overall experience would be without fault. However, to our surprise the experience was ruined by the arrogant staff and unwelcoming atmosphere. My friends and I were horrified by the patronising comments and ungraceful manner in which we were treated. If you want great food and a few insults on the side this is the place for you!
Rambler21
Bad service, owner is rude. There are so many options in this area now you would think they would lift their game. Must admit coffee is good.
Sarah Townsend
A Shame. St Edmonds is a great space with a beautifully decorated interior and exterior. The food here is well made and quite tasty, however prices are fairly expensive. Expect to see menu item appearances of burgers, wraps, spaghetti, and the usual cafe style food; nothing too exciting. Breakfasts here are quite average. There has been a lot of hoo-har about poor service at this venue and I put this to the test on Saturday. <br/>The staff here are all very good looking, which is perhaps why they believe they can get away with appalling service. Probably the worst I have ever had in Melbourne. They seem to not note the fact that a key part of hospitality is being hospitable. Its a shame really, because this venue could be great. I would love to see a staff overhaul and a fresh start for St Edmonds.

Appalling lack of basic customer service. As a local I have plenty of other options, but decided to give this cafe a chance at redemption. Went in this morning and ordered a coffee at the corner where coffee orders are taken. Greeted by waitress who took my orser then said "I'm not taking orders, go over there to order" & pointed me right back to the corner we were initially standing in. Is it that difficult to relay an order for one coffee? Avoid this place & try Dukes Coffee Roasters or Piccolo on High St instead. #epicfail #localresident
ANGRY COFFEE MAN
Disgusting on so many levels.. Visiting from WA..Straight away I noticed how appalling the service was. The floor staff just looked at me because I was a 'single' person who sat on a 2 seater table when they weren't busy. I was told "I had to take a seat at the bar", and no one even bothered taking my order. I went to sit down on a table regardless, and was given the stares. Coffee came out tepid when I specifically asked for it EXTREMELY hot. Not sure what any fuss about this place is?<br/><br/>It sucks, period.
Simon
Nice looking place. Overpriced for the plain level of food. And what's wrong with equally splitting a bill over two credit cards?
Ety
Great food .. Had the mushrooms n poached egg in toast w a side of fried .. All delicious .. Serve size generous ... Shame coffee not gr8 but will go back to try other menu items
CD
Like the style and ambiance ..... But the food is very very average .. The service is not better .. On top of that can't change any ingredients on the menu and no split bills. ... Hello ???
Toffa24
Mind blowingly bad service. I am new to the Prahran area so not sure if these service levels are acceptable in the hood.<br/>We walked in and took a seat in a fairly empty cafe (should have rung alarm bells - you don't get empty cafes on Sunday morning in Richmond, Abbotsford, Fitzroy). A waitress walked over and quite literally threw our menus at us and walked away.<br/>Another waiter came over and took our drink orders. We were deep in conversation when he returned with a friend's juice. He stood behind us and said 'juice, juice, juice, juice' getting progressivley louder until we stopped our conversation.<br/>Another waiter brought over coffees and didn't even bother to ask who they belonged to. He just left them all at the corner of the table and walked away.<br/>Food was ok. Very basic and unadventorous cafe food. Lots of sandwiches and wraps. Breakfast was overpriced and looked average based on those sitting around me. $20 for mushrooms on toast is crazy.<br/>Maybe a staff member's dog died or something that morning. But they were all miserable and flat out rude. The waitress also assusmed a $5 tip. I had to go up to the counter and ask for change. There is NO WAY I am tipping this kind of service.
Tinny Spice
A lovely meal I had. Satisfactory service, but quite a limited menu, and they should introduce fresh juiced onto the menu. Otherwise, I enjoyed a hearty salad, anc my acquaintance thoroughly enjoyed her meal too.
Patrick Malcolm
Love it. Could b best breakfast going round. Friendly but professional staff, great coffee, awesome food.
SophiEats
Love this place. Great coffee, great food (esp. the steak sandwich), and hot staff. Always has atmosphere too.
Joshua Ruzzier
Good fit out, good looking staff, however the coffee is inconsistent make sure the tall bloke makes it, food is more expensive than other cafes in the area.

A Perfect Sunday Brekky!. We hadn't been to St Edmonds for a while so decided to pop in Sunday morning. It was so warm and cosy with a busy atmosphere, perfect as it was freezing outside. We were greeted warmly right away, seated and asked if we wanted coffees. We only had a short amount of time so we ordered straight away and had our food delivered within 15 minutes. I ordered the mushroom, tomato bruschetta with poached egg and it made me remember why I love this place so much (apart from the wonderful staff) the food is amazing!! A real delight for the area, reasonably priced and delicious. I can't wait to go back!!

Burger night.. My boyfriend and I loved this place. Went and had two pinot's and a burger each (so good to be able to pick all your own toppings and home made sauces). They even had gluten free for me! Very cute little night lights above us, would definitely come here again to try out the other burger types. 9/10 for me.<br/><br/><br/>-----01 Aug, 2012-----<br/><br/>Delicious and cosy.. The brioche french toast for the sweet toothed or the spana crab omelette for the adventurous. I felt looked after, tucked away, and loved the atmosphere here. Greeted upon arrival by funky aproned staff who you could tell enjoyed working there. All in all, definitely somewhere I would make my local.
Luke Rynderman
Excellent. Popped into burger night at St Edmonds. Burger was amazing and service was friendly and attentive. Relaxed vibe and great atmosphere and ambience. Secretly thought the barman was a hottie and the waitress with the dark hair is to die for! Can't wait to come back for cocktails on Friday night!

I've become quiet the regular here and wouldn't want to go anywhere else, constantly greeted with a smile and always a good morning, the staff are prompt and the coffee is amazing , if you can catch Emmett on the machine , he will never disappoint !<br/>The foods very good too, the Sharing plates are a great idea and night out with a couple of friends over a nice glass of vine
Kristen Richardson
Whatever you do don't expect good service. Floor staff don't let you change the way your eggs are done.... <br/><br/>There is a line outside, I have no idea why?! <br/><br/>I don't understand
Elizabeth.r.lette
St eds. When i got to st edmonds, all i wanted was eggs and coffee.....that i got, without delay. The staff was friendly and funny, interested to hear what i had to say and equally willing to make my experience with them as pleasing and comfortable as bed would have been at that point in time. i chose the bruchetta for breakfast, a great mix of veggies and eggs and had a great good coffee. really good actually. I will be recommending to friends and frequenting myself.

Breakfast at st Edie's this morning was perfect. Great coffee and daffinois toastie.
Chloe Smith
Best burgers!. Another amazing burger night at St Edmonds last night - fast becoming a highlight of the week in this dreary weather!<br/><br/>Great value and always a delicious selection - also appreciate there being a gluten free option so I don't feel like I'm missing out.<br/><br/>Aside from the burger nights, it's so refreshing to have a cafe that changes up the regular menu frequently.
Happy Diner
Fun, funky and delicious. I recently dined at St Edmonds in Prahran and loved the experience. The design is clever, with a nod to the building's original beginnings as a garage, in the denim banquets and graffiti wall! The staff are very friendly and very hipster and the food was great! I'll be back, an overall fun and very enjoyable time.
Helen Foster
Inconsistency. Coffee can good at times but sometime extremely bad, burnt and under extracted. Milk smells on a few occasion. <br/>Inconsistent. Hope they can better!
Tan
TOPS!. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!!!!<br/><br/>What an incredible space with an atmosphere to match! Felt immediately welcome and comfortable. The staff were friendly and attentive, service was prompt despite being busy. Hands down best coffee and menu this side of town. Great experience here. Will most certainly be back!
GaryJ
Consistently Consistant. 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches in past couple of months, all have been what i would expect. place has lot of hype but is worthy os most of it. coffee is great, especially their half soy lattes. duck salad and the wagu burger are also good.
Food4lyf
AN EXCELLENT FIND!. Trust me when I say this, I'm obsessed with food and customer service and when a place can deliver on both, they have definitely won a customer for life! I do like to try new places but I must admit... I'm a creature of habit and will always return to a place I know I will be looked after at. <br/>When I stumbled upon St Edmonds last week I was starving so my meal had to be perfect and let me tell you it was beyond that! The pasta was perfectly al dente and the flavours complimented each other so well. <br/>The most impressive part of my visit was the service I received from the manager. He was so attentive and knew his stuff! <br/>On top of all of that, I really love the feel of the place. It's super relaxed with an elegant touch. Do yourself a favour and head down to St Edmonds for an experience you will love.
Jemma O'Hanlon
Terrible. Burnt toast and porridge that looked and tasted like it came straight from a packet... no effort whatsoever. Need I say more?
Alfreda
Waste of $15. Greasy scrambled eggs. And barely cooked bacon.
Mutton Dressed As Lamb
Cool and interesting. Set on a quiet side street parallel to busy Chapel Street. St Edmonds is on trend with quirky wait staff and interesting decor. Great place to catch up with friends however you have to be lucky to get a decent sized table. Last time I ate at St Edmonds they sat us as we waited for a larger space and moved us promptly when a table was free which I appreciated.<br/>Good food, a tad pricey but I'll return.
Melbourne David
Overpriced. Coffee was brilliant, but overpriced for what the food was and the bitter feeling on leaving is not from the coffee.
Bazza
Very Bad service. I ordered a crossiant on Saturday morning which came out cold and stale. I told the waitress and she replied that's just how they are we can heat it up if you like? Wrong answer. I didn't eat it as I was put off and they still had the nerve to charge me for it. Very dissapointing as I got back to the office and told all my colleagues. They also won't be returning, such a shame as I only work around the corner. Maybe you might learn from this and not make the same mistake for another customer. Wake up St Edmonds.
Myview
Never again!! Bad service and way overpriced.. Decor very average and apart from the fact that we never got our order we decided to get a croissant which was stone cold straight out of the fridge !!!! Not good enough.
Leo
My breakfast ritual on a Saturday Morning before work was a total joke.<br/><br/>Firstly who would have thought that scrambled eggs on toast would have taken 50 minutes! We were the first and only guests there first thing in the morning. 50 minutes later after asking where our food was I was told the dockets weren't going through to the kitchen, at this stage the place was full and everyone was waiting for their food for ages. A simple croissant instead turned out to be stale and rock hard. After telling them they didn't even say sorry of anything. We were charged for the stale croissant too... Terrible service from St Edmonds guys... Won't be back again...
Sarah W
Plenty of better places to go. My partner and I decided to go for brekki at St Edmonds and it wasn't all that. The cafe its self looks great, nice bare brick walls, old shop scales and large open windows but the food and coffee disappointed. The coffee unfortunately tasted burnt, the rosti was burnt and the house made baked beans with feta was missing the feta. I was also charged $1.50 for tomato sauce!
Anna
I love a good share plate and st Edmonds dinner share plates are definitely my fav in Melbourne. The sashimi and the duck crepe is by far my number one choices. On the top of that the atmosphere under the big tree in the courtyard and the awesome service from the staff makes for a perfect dinner with my girlfriends.
Channelle
Exactly what Greville Street Needed!. Yet to have a bad experience, I have eaten at St Edmonds religiously every weekend since they opened, despite how busy they are they always find me a seat to perch! Great coffee, great food & staff that know your order without you having to even speak.
Dean
In for lunch today and I must say the crab omelette is fantastic and a friends had the big breakfast. Coffee was good and the service was great ANC I will be back again my new hot spot.
Eg
Only for drinks. Nice interior, even better courtyard! Staff is good too. So overpriced though! And the food is not that amazing at all! Would never go back for food but I wouldn't mind a drink or too.
Joanna Tan
Awesome food and ESP the wine. Bonus was the very accomadating and obliging owner Adam! Great local!
Jen
Good food, Yummy wine and a very obliging owner, Adam :)
Giana A
By far , best coffee blend I have had in a while . Plus amazing food to go with it, best to head there early as it gets crazy packed with the outdoor courtyard.
Bkd
I dont write reviews often but it's great to leave somewhere that can completely turn your day around. My experience at st Edmunds earlier today was a rare delight. I had a great coffee and delicious meal but nothing beats being greeted with a smile. Everyone in there was really pleasant, and I really enjoyed the ambiance. I'll definitely be back!
Heinz
Great atmosphere, great service. After a friend mentioned this place i decided to see what all the fuss was about, Was not disappointed! after a 10 minute wait on a weekend (despite how busy it looked ), we were seated at a table and attended to by a quirky waiter who told me that the crab omelette was to die for. He wasnt wrong! ! Loved it and loved that the staff were really accomodating. slightly pricey but well worth it .been there since have not beed disappointed We need more of these in the area !!!<br/>- New Reg -

Function and form. Bloody delicious and pretty spunky too! St Eddys always delivers on the cool and comfort vibe...great place to relax and enjoy a tea on my lonesome, have a work meeting or gather with a crew for some arvo bevvy's. <br/>The menu is great....awesome share plates and a winning brekky menu! <br/>Need I say more.....<br/><br/><br/>-----28 Mar, 2012-----<br/><br/>Home away from home. My fav spot away from the couch.....so much so that I sometimes stop in twice daily!<br/>Great friendly staff...that also provide a bit of eye candy!<br/>delish food n drinks with endless hours of people watching to wile away the hours....
Rebecca R
Nice atmosphere but $20 for eggs with avocado and bacon is a bit over priced. Other things on the menu seemed reasonably priced but on a Saturday morning eggs are a must
Secretname
Very friendly atmosphere. Nice to take the baby and friends down there for a relaxed yummy breakfast and lunch. Love the music too.
Geoxmel
Coffee was ok however my partner's mocha was the worst he's ever had. Food was extremely underwhelming. Trying to be a Brunswick cafe but is far from it.
Lindsey
Very nice and relaxed late afternoon lunch. No pretentious rubbish here :)
Linda
Good Food Terrible Service!!!!!. It's such a shame that the manager/owner of this place is so rude and most of the staff are a little on the hopeless side as the food is pretty good and the outdoor area is really nice. We are local and have been here several times. Today it was quite busy and we were seated straight away and served water. We were then told we would have to vacate our table and wait outside as the waitress had made a mistake with the waiting list. We waited outside for 10 minutes and then were directed to come in and sit at the same table we had left?? We ordered coffees and I ordered a tea and some food. Coffee's and food came after a reasonable wait but no tea....asked the waitress and she said she'd check. After another 20 mins I called her over and asked to cancel the tea and I would have a latte take away instead....it never arrived. We paid the bill including the latte and the waitress told me to wait by the coffee machine. Still no order had been placed......however, one of the more friendly staff asked me what I was waiting for and when I explained he went about making the latte straight away. The owner (guy with reddish beard) came up and asked me quite shortly to move out of the way and "that I wouldn't received my drink any faster by standing beside the coffee machine" he was so rude! I said the could have at least asked me nicely considering the sh*t service we had recieved and he said "I obviously had a real bee in my bonnet about stuff today". I am 5 months pregnant and just wanted my drink that I had ordered over an hour prior and paid for. WILL NEVER GO BACK....there are plenty of good cafes in Prahran. This is no way to run a business!
Simonsays
The best. Bar none this place is the bomb.<br/>Great food, funky atmosphere, no stuck up waitstaff, just good fun service, ample outdoor space.<br/>Came for lunch and had to come back after shopping for a coffee.<br/>When someone gets it right, it looks like this
Penny
Bit expensive but great.. Yum yum! This is one of my favourite cafes / hangout places in Prahran - it can get a bit busy in early evenings and sometimes at lunch, but great during odd hours! The lunch and breakfast menus are a bit expensive, but I love their big cabinet of breakfast and lunch paninis and burgers (there's a great scrambled egg & avocado mini burger!)<br/><br/>Most of the staff are pretty great too.
Daniela Di Silvio
Decent food, way over priced though, service took ages, i ordered a salad on the specials board it said it had pine nuts..it got to the table and it didnt. My partner got a burger it tasted avg but was far to tall to but in his mouth... Plenty better options in the area to chose nxt time
Remy Low
How to lose a regular customer. St. Edmonds makes great coffee that has the standard price attached. They also make great food, with a price about 25% higher than it should be, but heck the service is great and the fit out pretty good.<br/><br/>The owner or manager however needs to work on his service. I'm a regular, working around the corner and getting somewhere between 3 to 6 coffees there during the week. Went there for breakfast/brunch on Sunday. He would clearly know my face, and the other staff certainly do.<br/><br/>Ordered the eggs benedict. They don't 'do' eggs Florentine. But I don't eat ham. They do however to a rostie with cooked spinach (it's so easy to substitue ham for spinach I couldn't believe you were arguing with me). I asked to replace it to eggs Florentine i.e. swap ham to spinach. No worries he says, brings out the food, with uncooked spinach. Talked to him. We fixed the problem. He was a bit annoyed at me,blamed me for making a non-standard order but I was polite and it was sorted. To think that uncooked spinach would be standard for a breakfast is perplexing in itself. They don't give me uncooked eggs when I ask for eggs. <br/><br/>Charged me the $4.50 for what could only be described as 75c of product, because he doesn't think that when you order spinach for breakfast it means you want it cooked.<br/><br/>I wasn't too annoyed at this, but I was pissed off when he rushed us the bill, kept hassling us to order more, and then after we had paid flat out lied. He says "there are many people waiting for a table, so if you can move along that would be great". Well sir, there was NO ONE waiting for a table. I looked. There were empty tables. <br/><br/>Manager, owner, man with the reddish beard whoever you are. Work on your customer service, don't assume anything and blame the customer and most importantly DO NOT EVER RUSH A PERSON OFF A TABLE ON A SUNDAY MORNING. Oh, and most importantly, cheer up! <br/><br/>Hope that you read this, learn a thing or two and don't annoy someone else. And when you complain to a co-worker about this revenue, think about where the blame lies.

Iced Coffee made the way I like it; just ice, espresso and cold milk. Served in very cute, little cup....Edit (2013)<br/>.....<br/>This had been on my mind for years. There's a reason why I haven't been back here, and I'm sure a lot has changed by now. The last time I was here (in 2013 when Swinburne used to be around) I had my usual latte after studying. I was the only customer as it was the afternoon. I couldn't help but hear what the male staff was saying to the female - it sounded like the female just started working there and was not a local. The male staff was saying inappropriate comments about what she can do with her time, and how she should smile and laugh at what he's saying. The female was polite and kinda laughing it off but wasn't comfortable. I wasn't comfortable. And really regretted not telling her before I left this cafe that this isn't what working in a cafe is like and shouldn't put up with him. I really hope things have changed for the better now, because I liked the coffee here.
Four From Four
Super friendly staff and absolutely delicious breakfast - a new local favorite of mine now!
Michelle
Great menu & lovely food. The staff were fine and the dinner prices were very reasonable. The teriyaki salmon for $20 was great.
Lisamavr
Too expensive. Food was really average and was expensive for what you got. $20 for a hamburger and fries - it was not cooked through and had to be sent back. Not sure why all the rage - atmosphere was not great - sat outside in the courtyard - totally over hyped
Ruthanne_Cowie
Great place. Really enjoyed my lunch there. Took my 10 month baby and the waitress was lovely enough to carry her round the place while I ate. It was quite expensive, but had a really nice feel.
Eat Up
Ok ... But $y. As an almost daily eat-out-for-lunch guy, I know a bit about lunches. Lunch is a tasty affair at St Edmonds but you sure will be paying for it! It's really expensive for the portion sizes and service does come with attitude....is it worth it? Maybe when it's not so busy and you actually get service.
Kyle Trenbaum
DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. This place looks amazing... but after my third visit, its clear that there is zero follow through, and even less talent in the building. The food was small, over priced, but pleasant. And the coffee.... wow... this is Melbourne people. I asked for a strong, hot cappucino. It came, after at least 10 minutes and was neither hot, nor strong. If you can't nail the coffee, then nothing is going to work for you in this city. Lastly, the waitstaff were among the most disinterested people on the planet. It didn't seem to occur to them to pay attention to the customers. My service was very average, bu the people around me were treated shockingly on my third visit. The kinks should well and truly have been worked out by now... This place looks great but every staff member in there was a waste of space.

Staff are too cool for school. How about trying to be hospitable? The only positive about this place is that it's a really sweet fit out.

Brunch is the word!!. On three different brunch occasions I have visited St Edmonds, I've always ordered off the specials menu and never been disappointed, soup - amazing! Squid ink pasta with calamari- amazing and pouched chicken salad - amazing!! Coffee is always divine!! I will definitely be back for more yummy goodness…..

Great food, great service, great atmosphere... One of the best cafes in Melbourne!

Beautiful little place for dinner on a warm night! The courtyard is lovely, food came out fast, looked great, tasted amazing, mainly the fig balls, a must eat! New fav place :)

I was so shocked to see some bad reviews of st edmonds! i've been trying new cafes all over melbourne and st edmonds is my new favourite place! only been once so far (but will 100% be back soon!) and had such a perfect experience - waitors were super friendly but not annoying, food came out exceptionally quickly, tasted great, we made a couple of changes to the dishes from the menu and the food came out exactly the way we asked for, and wasn't too expensive! what more could you ask for?? we were talking about how good the place was for the rest of the day. i have no affiliation with the place - not related or friends with the owners or anything like that, im just a customer that loved it!

We were charged $13 for 2 coffees. And they were just coffees. We queried the bill. Yep. $13. Don't waste your money folks.

Great Deer Pie!

Went for breakfast this morning, even though it was very busy the staff managed it well, taking my number and calling me with a table within 5 minutes, the coffees were very fast and good at that. The food was also tasty!
Isha Brown
The coffee was beautiful and the staff were very friendly.

Went for lunch the other day. Snapper was fresh and amazing. Coffee was great and all the staff are mega babes and super friendly. Will definitely be coming back and recommending it to all of my friends.

Horrendous!!!!!!!!. This place is not cool, hip or any other buzz phrase it is attempting to be. <br/>The staff are useless, one of these charming specimens actually told me to slow down after placing a takeaway order for three coffees... It really isn't rocket science... They are rude and arrogant and I will not be going back. The Chai Latte and Coffees from St Edmonds were the WORST I have ever had. Not to mention the lack of customer service.<br/>Not impressed, I think they all need a good night's sleep and should wake up in reality - where paying customers are treated with respect and not disdain!

So refreshingly perfect in every way. I have been wanting to hit St Edmonds since it opened and today I finally did. Great atmoshpere, casual friendly staff, awesome aprons, great syndicate coffee, a different looking and wonderfully tasting breakfast menu & superb urban fit out. It is just fantastic to see the i's dotted and the t's crossed and so much effort has gone into this beautiful hole in the wall. Congratulations - you should all be super proud.

Good place, but music always too loud. Would recommend this place, usually a good vibe. Food and coffee are very good. Wouldn't call it cheap though and the staff all must have hearing problems because the music is always up too loud which detracts from an otherwise cruisy atmosphere.

Not good!. Went for lunch ordered chicken salad and a friend had the salad special, they were both the same except she had kumera. The thigh chicken was not good cold and looked and tasted bad. We waited 40mins for a meal that was less than average, We noticed other people sending food back also. Not nice, a pity in a great spot.

Lovely lovely. Beautiful food, great friendly interior, quick service and great staff with very cool aprons. The Eggs Benedict and the Bircher are personal faves! Not to mention the coffee- it's just all good!

Fun and funky. Soooo nice to have this place as my new local for breakfast... Great fit out, love the herbs hanging from the wall. Breakfast menu is just perfect in choices and price. Breaky was yum! Could not fault breaky here.. its busy but not so much that you can't have a conversation with your breakfast buddy or hear yourself think like other local breakfast places. Also great to eat here on your own up at the bench and read the paper, staff really friendly.<br/>However, went back for dinner, not fantastic, it was a quiet rainy night and not busy but had to call the waitress over from talking to a friend, gave us the wrong drinks and the food was only just ok... nothing to rave about.<br/>Will definiately be back to try dinner again but at this stage think Breakfast is the time of choice to visit here... <br/>All things aside love this place and is my new hang out... so probably shouldnt be encouraging people to go so that I can always get a table!!!!!

Ego's too big to care about customers?. 12pm Sunday afternoon. Busy. Hip hop pumping out of courtyard speakers. Middle-aged tourist couples coming in to eat because it looks good. They leave half-way through because of service and music too loud. Terrible gluten-free bread. Eggs on toast cold on arrival. No fried potatoes at lunch time? Terrible potato gems (croquettes basically) on the side instead ($4 for two????!!!!). Waitress claiming "an afternoon lapse" when she forgets cutlery. Manager not appreciative or interested in negative feedback. Massive disappointment. Having a cafe in Prahran doesn't make you automatically cool - if you alienate the locals, good luck.

This is Melbourne! Perfect fusion of a great location, beautifully designed space, dynamic staff, fresh menu and great atmosphere. Been several times for breakfast and lunch and loved it, but for me, nights are my favorite. Enjoy!

Great vibe. Staff are an eclectic bunch who are friendly. A small wait for coffee but it's well worth it.
KV
Very disappointing and a rip-off! It took them over 40 mins to serve us when the place was half empty. Meals are certainly not cheap and portions are very small and simple. Presentation was nothing special. Won't come back!
Arnaud
Overpriced, ultra small portions, and take them ages to cook 2 ridiculous toasts. To miss!

Dinner to Die For.............. Ten out of ten guys, great fit out, funky tunes and the staff made me and my friends feel very welcome. Highly reccomend the lamb cutlets and meatballs, the lamb was very tender and cooked to perfection - great dinner menu. Looking forward to coming back for breakfast. Keep up the good work guys and this place will soon become a Melbourne Institution.

Finally a place that get's it right in my neighbour hood. <br/>It's great to walk into a place that you know the owners have thought about everything. The fit-out is very cool.<br/>When I first walked in the door I was greeted by friendly staff, which they quickly found me a table even though the place was full and very lively. I order my coffee and with-in minutes I had received a great flat white. <br/>I had a quick read of the menu and it looked amazing. I didn't have time to eat so next time I will be there for the food. I loved that the menu is short. <br/>I ordered another coffee to go since the first one was so good. I got it within minutes again. I have to admit I have read the reviews above and all I can say is that if you have never made coffee before you probably don't understand how long it takes to make and also you never see how many dockets are lined up. If someone gets their coffee before you do even if you ordered before them it's because the barista is grouping the dockets by milk. This is for efficiency. So give the guys a break. <br/>I think this is going to be my new local. Thanks guys.
Roberto Hunter
Very disappointing!!!. Coffee had sour tasting milk and poached chicken salad came with brown thigh meat instead of the white breast meat you would expect. Didn't touch my salad, when the waiter asked why I said because the meat was brown and not what I expected, just took it away with no offer to substitute.....left with bad taste in my mouth literally!!!

Melbourne Cafe scene at its best!. I've been watching the development of St Edmonds with keen anticipation. Finally the wait is over. <br/><br/>My first experience was all i had hoped it would be. On arrival you're hit with a real warm and inviting space. The fitout is different from just about anywhere else i've eaten. Which is a relief as i'm forever eating in venues that all look the same. <br/><br/>The coffee did take longer than i would have liked but it was a Sat morning and the place was at capacity. In coming weeks i think they will rectify this.<br/><br/>The food was fresh and very different to the stock standard that you get in most Melb cafes. Its all organic and seasonal which is crucial if you want food with real taste. <br/><br/>Staff were friendly and proactive, knowing when to prompt for service and when not to. <br/><br/>In all 8 out of 10. Worth a visit.

Great fit out. It has a Scandinavian feel! Food was disappointing. Crab omlette was overcooked and dry. Poached eggs with salmon came smothered in vinegary bernaisse and served on white, plappy rolls. Coffee had an 'ashy' finish. Not great. Great interiors let down by ordinary food.
Marcus Larry Broadley
Funky tunes, good coffee and fast friendly service. Try the crab omlette.

Disappointed. We heard the hype , so visited on a Saturday morning for brunch. Took 10 minutes to get the attention of a waiter, then coffee arrived a further 10 min later, at separate times. Coffee was average, breakfast was very average for the cost. Service was really poor, unfriendly waiters, not a smile to be seen. I know it was busy, and St Edmond's has recently opened, so may have a few kinks to iron out, but I won't go back. I took a friend from Perth there who was looking forward to the great Melbourne food and coffee, and it was an embarrassing letdown frankly.

I'd eat there everyday!. I had spotted St. Edmonds earlier on in the week and went there for breakfast yesterday morning. First thing I notice: It was busy! <br/><br/>Everything is organic, free range and sounds (and from what I saw, looks) delicious. For the quality of food you are eating the prices are also reasonable.<br/><br/>I chose the chilli egg and swimmer crab omellette with sesame roti. For me, it was like eating a bowl of good pho in the form of an omellete... perfectly seasoned and balanced, accomponied by a delicous chilli sauce and there was a handful of corriander and beansprouts placed on top to reshresh the dish.<br/><br/>The staff are also friendly, (though a bit slow and unorganised... my cappucino took 7 minutes for take away... and the customer after me was served first). <br/><br/>When I was eating the chef came out and asked me what I thought, I swallowed immediatley and said 'it's the best thing i've eaten!'... i'm coming back for dinner and i'm spreading the word about this place!

One of the best breakfast locations an food and service but will be hard to get into because of the above

St. Edmonds cafe is sexy. Perfectly placed just off Greville Street, you can see Tax Alexanders work from afar and find yourself stepping into their coolness...
Lavendars
...adventurous flavours compliment old favourites beautifully, with hints of Asia (e.g. carmalised lemongrass balsamic; chestnut honey cream)

St Edmonds' interior and design is fresh and playful. Take for instance the denim overall aprons worn by the staff (designed by Scanlan & Theodore) and the pot plants hanging in denim bags on the walls. When busy, patrons sit at the wooden bar, which overlooks a glass display cabinet filled with mini rolls and other delights. Muffins, slices and pastries line the bench top, bookended by a set of cream antique scales

Hidden at the rear of 154 Greville Street you’ll the little piece of garage conversion known as St Edmonds. Few and far between are quality cafes that stay open into the night, but here you’ll find exactly that.

Yes it was nice and tasty but my issue was with the size vs cost vs wait time...
Joanna
Third times a charm as they say, and it was surely a charm…
Gastrology
By pioneering a culture of food, St Edmonds, has helped to develop a neighbourhood vibe in what is now a thriving hub. Greville Street, two years on, is alive with a bustling breakfast, brunch and lunch trade. Adopting a chilled Greville St culture, St Edmonds is joined by newer venues including Oskar Cooper, Cup of Truth’s Pardon Café and Ladro which are ready and waiting on a new influx of clients from soon to be complete residential developments.  Colourful street art sets the scene at St Edmonds. Their patrons can be spotted relaxing over coffee, beer, wine and food.  The food at St Edmonds is developed around the seasons with daily specials. Serious about coffee, the café roasts its own.

Eats are changed daily in the blackboard’s rotation. Warm in winter with a well-crafted bowl of soup, maybe spanner crab and pumpkin with chill.
The Burger Adventure
Like a lot of great Melbourne venues, St Edmonds feels like a place made for Locals Only, even though it’s popularity has far surpassed the Pug walking Prahran natives. Even though the venue has the soul of a garage, they’ve got good food and coffee at the heart. Even though they’ve been going strong since 2011, we finally made our way down to try their Wagyu burger that came with a brioche bun, a Wagyu pattie, pickle, bacon, tomato relish, tasty cheese and lettuce. Comments “Not one to encourage overly processed patties with anything more than salt and pepper for seasoning,
