Review N-tran Bakery 1 & 2 - Prahran

Great fresh banh mi and other made-up bread rolls, pies and cakes, etc. Cheery, bright staff, fast service, despite always full of tradies. It's popular because it's good.

Donā€™t let its humble exterior fool you! This place makes some of the most delicious Vietnamese street food on Chapel. BBQ chicken Bahn mi, crispy pork noodle salads loaded with flavour.

Modern Vietnamese bakery disguised. No mention of Banh Mi, instead calling these delicious food items, salad rolls. Try the crackling pork banhi mi (salad roll) if you are visiting 1st time. Pictured here the banh mi and spring roll noodle.

Good coffee ! Good food ! Good price !! Believe or not they have salad here to offer you keto salad instead of in the bread .

Barista was really nice and makes good coffee!

Best salad bowls in Melbourne. I always introduce friends and family to this business because it's so good. Fresh and delicious.

Disappointed. Wayyy to much limp lettuce, cold roast pork, asked for chilli but didn't taste it and not even a crunchy roll (11am). Didn't live up to the reputation
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
I first came here on the weekend when I was shopping at the market. I got the tran special. It was full of flavour and the roll was packed. It was the best bun mai I have ever had. They even put a free spring roll in the bag for me to try šŸ˜

Two weeks later I took my partner. I got the tran special again and my partner got the chicken. He also loved this place. He tried mine and was like wow. Yours is full on! Canā€™t wait to go back again!
Sunny Days Melbourne
Banh Mi on Chapel Street? Sure, why not. I was pleasantly surprised by the roast pork banh mi here. The roll was soft (not crusty, but that's ok...sometimes the crusty rolls are abrasive on my palate) and longer than most other places. The fillings were fresh, texturally interesting and just plain delicious. It was certainly pricier than other banh mis around town but it was Chapel Street after all. The ladies serving at the counter were super friendly and efficient.

Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area and want something different!
Quince And Cheese
Not the best tofu bahn mi in Melbourne, but not bad. The rolls are quite large and heavy on the veg which is great for someone like me. If you want a more "gourmet" vegan roll, try Trang. But this place is good for the classics.

Ultra fresh banh mi . Bread absolutely delicious and also fresh .
The pork tender and juicy . The rest of the ingredients also very fresh. Kind staff and good price . Completely affordable.

We dropped in to this bakery for afternoon tea and it wasn't the best experience.Ā Our coffee was a bit too milky and the pastries we chose were a little dry - maybe because it was the end of the day.Ā The staff were inattentive - they were too busy chatting to each other before serving us.

This is my favorite local sandwich stop! I always get the tofu salad roll. It's yummy every time! Sometimes we even pick up a fresh batch of the rolls to make our own sandwiches at home. Great for an on-the-go lunch stop.
Not the best salad banh mi of had from here. The tomatoes were underripe and almost green. I usually love the salad rolls here and the value is pretty good, although I was charged extra for coriander which I thought was a given. They have great donuts and croissants here too.
Eating Sushi
Ordered the traditional pork ham banh mi and it was quite average. Looking at the ham through the window, the ham was getting old as it was hard around the edges. They add a weird oily sauce in the banh mi which isn't what I'm used to. Growing up eating banh mi, I found that really strange. They also charge a premium on these rolls which is definitely not worth the money (but then again everything on chapel st is extremely expensive). Won't be rushing back here again.

It was just an OK Vietnam sandwich, shame the bread wasn't warm enough, meat were really dry not juicy at all. But the sauce and veggie are quite nice.
Some Like It Hot
Good chicken schnitzel roll with salad and optional chilli. All tasted very fresh. Coffee surprisingly ok. $23 for two rolls and two medium coffees, I'm happy with that :)

Good little Viet bakery. Their salad rolls are great, with always fresh ingredients and great bread rolls. Some of their sweets are a little too sweet.

My quest for the perfect banh mi continues. I had the tofu version which had some
interesting variations including tomato. The roll was perfect - crunchy and light but the price is the main deterrent - $3 more than the Richmond equivalent.

Nice rolls over the joint! Had a pork roll and a vegetarian roll. Rather expensive for rolls but really tasty. The coffee was not bad. Worth checking out

If you're looking for a quick cheap Vietnamese Banh mi around Prahran area I highly recommend N Tran Bakery. I usually go with the traditional Vietnamese Banh mi - butter, extra pate, selection of Vietnamese cold cuts, chilli, coriander, pickled carrots, daikon, maggi sauce and bit of gravy in a crunchy airy baguette and if I'm feeling a bit cheeky extra cheese slices :) can't go wrong!
EatToLive
Good Vietnamese rolls with double priced comparing to most Vietnamese rolls in Melbourne (might have something to do with the location). Friendly staffs also. Recommended to anyone who wants a quick meal while doing business on Chapel Street.
Table To Paper
A good local joint. The rolls itself are exactly what it should be - a light, crunchy exterior and soft on inside. My favourite DIY combination is the bbq chicken with the traditional condiments - the Vietnamese egg mayo (the yellowy sauce), pate, fresh chilli, coriander, cucumber, carrots and some spring onion.. it never disappoints.
Green Gourmet Giraffe
I had the vegetarian salad roll with tofu (banh mi).Ā It was freshly made and filled with lovely vegies and tasty slices of tofu.Ā My only regret was that I ordered the standard salad and didn't think to ask for some beetroot in it.Ā Carmen had the rice paper rolls which were huge.Ā We had been lucky to order before the rush arrived but as we ate in store we were amazed that it got quite busy.

Brilliant. This place is a Chapel Street institution. Prices have gradually crept up over the years, but it's still one of the cheapest feeds on old Chaps. A salad roll will set you back about $5, with tasty mayo and coriander included. It's hard to beat one of the classics from N Tran. Service is pretty average, but it's certainly not the smiles that keep you coming back.

Ha ha people around here are suckers.
Banh mi in Richmond are $3.20. They are $7 here! You have got to be kidding.

Quick and easy. One of my quick pick up lunch spots. The fresh salad never fails, be quick if you like dark rye or wholemeal as they do sell out at times
