Review Queen Vees - Prahran

Edwar Kartio
It's not often to find a Carribean style restaurant ever. We have had past experience with jerk chicken and fairly excited about this. The chicken is very moist although unfortunately the accompanying sauce is not as flavour as we wanted. The fish taco and chicken wings are excellent too. Food - 7 Service - 9 Vibe - 8 Price - $$$

Visited for the first time with 3 friends for dinner on a Tuesday. Had intentions of doing the Vegan special but wanted to try dishes from the regular menu. It was all fantastic. Food delicious, had a lovey mocktail and the service was also fab. Friendly and casual. Will definitely be back!

Great place to go as I haven't had flavours quite like this before. Had the chicken and chicken ribs which had the great red sauce and the oxtail stew. The coleslaw with mango was delicious. Probably not a place you will go to many many times but you should try at least once.

Comfort food at its best 😍 started with cornbread (best cornbread I've had to date, the hazelnut garlic butter with it was just perfect), then the cerviche and finished with jerk chicken and oxtail curry. So much flavour in every dish but not so much to overwhelm. Also get a cocktail, you won't regret it. Definitely will be back 👌

Oddly my first visit here last night. Had such a delightful experience with the food, music and flavours. I went with a vegan and we shared plates between 3 of us, the richness and flavours were tickling all the mouth sensors the right way. Had a perve at some of the meat option on other tables, already looking forward to going back and trying these. Hanoi's original home always has a place in my heart, but I couldnt imagine a better place to follow it up. Amazing job guys, :)

Went here for Tuesday’s vegan night and it was awesome!! For starter we had a “fish” taco followed by “fish” and chips and what I think they called a Jamaican mess (vegan fried rice with pineapple, pepper, coconut and lots of fresh herbs) and finished with a delicious stone fruit dessert with some kind of sweet crunchy topping on it. All excellent! We cleaned our plates and would happily do it again. Not a bad deal for 39 AUD! We also got a pitcher (jug) to share of an awesome punch that was enough for 6 drinks at 36 AUD. All in all an excellent time, gorgeous decor and the staff was super friendly/ helpful! Get there early cause this place fills up.

Short menu (thank god, didn’t need to read a book) but brilliant choices. Don’t bother picking just ask Ben. Absolutely bloody delicious. Wings. Ribs. Corn fritters. Chicken and Slaw to die for. Great beers and a great vibe too. Couldn’t fault it, really glad I went. Go there!!

I really wanted to love this place based on the other reviews, but our experience was disappointing. the service was good, the food was not. We ordered the ceviche, jerk chicken, and jalapeno mac and cheese. The ceviche was alright, but not very flavourful at all. The jerk chicken could hardly be called jerk; there was no traditional cinnamon/clove/allspice/nutmeg flavour or heat whatsoever, but instead it tasted of mustard seed. And the mac and cheese was profoundly bland, it didn't even taste of jalapeno, just coconut milk. I would try it again as I think this spot has potential, but our first visit wasn't a good one.

Caribbean food in a TINY bar place

FOOD: We ordered the half jerk chicken, fish tacos and roti. The jerk chicken was cooked well but the jerk marinate wasn’t the best. It tasted abit too burnt for my liking and though the chicken meat was succulent, the skin and sauce weren’t my favourite. Speaking of burnt, the roti was extremely burnt and the staff claimed that it was their style because it’s on a charcoal but I came from a country where roti is our specialty so my expectations were that it wouldn’t be burnt at the very least. Maybe the bitterness of the burnt food was meant to complement the drinks but it just wasn’t my style of food. The fish tacos were great on the other hand but how can you really go wrong with fried fish, am I right?

SERVICE: Kinda meh.

Queen Vee’s is one of the only restaurants that claim to sell authentic Caribbean food and though I won’t say its terrible, it also wasn’t mind blowing 🤷🏻‍♀️

Went here with a large group for dinner. We decided to do the feed me as we thought easiest way to split a bill for large menu and let them cater for us. Extremely disappointed as jerk chicken is there signature dish we only got 2 portions for 14 people and one portion of fish and 2 veggie mains. We did get some sides however if they are promoting on signature dish there should be more available. A quick tot of what we got did not amount to 45 each. Advice go al la carte! Disappointing!

Great food. Friendly staff. Enjoyed the jerk chicken, fish tacos and grilled corn. Fun vibe and good atmosphere!

Never tried Caribbean food before and it was a treat! The jerk chicken was juicy and flavoured very well, nothing like I’ve had before. The ceviche tasted fresh and light. The lamb curry was very creamy and filling, good serving size and tasted great. Overall great new experience, try it if you’re in the area :)

Will come back for:
+ Kingfish Ceviche
+ Vee’s famous Chicken

This place is charming with it’s carribbean rhythm and vibe, supported well by it’s chill and friendly staff. We came by for dinner and started with the kingfish ceviche which was fresh, tangy, with a hint of spice. This was delicious and a great way to kick off the meal. We followed this with the miso tamarind short ribs which whilst tasty was a little dry. This one could do with a little more sauce. The leafs accompanying to wrap the meats was a novel (Asian fusion) way to eat this dish. I particularly like their jerk chicken (although this took a little bit longer, it was worth the wait). This was super tasty, smokey but still succulent in the middle. The spice rub was bold, generous and spicy. Some bits of the chicken was probably taken a bit too far, but I don’t mind a little bit of the charred bits. Overall, this was a good meal. Prices are reasonable for what you get and they certainly do provide something a little bit of difference in this strip.

Tonight we caught up with friends Queen Vees on High St Prahran. This cozy little restaurant hand plenty of charm with pink flamingo and palm tree wallpaper adorning the walls and fragrant cinnamon smell from the steaming mulled wine. We sat at the front of this bustling venue and ordered drinks ahead of reading up on this Caribbean inspired comfort food menu.

We started with a couple of individual cocktails and Vee’s punch. My Lei’d back was delicious with a blend of Jamaican & Puerto Rican rum, curacoa, apricot and passionfruit. Vee’s punch was light and easy drinking and not overly sweet like some.

Food was ordered for sharing and came out surprisingly quick for a venue that was quite busy.

For starters we snacked on delicate kingfish ceviche that was melt in your mouth fresh and served on potato chips. The fresh warm corn bread had lovely cinnamon overtones and the finger licking good chicken ribs that had been smothered in wonderful sweet sticky sauce, I could have eaten a whole plate of these to myself!

For mains we shared the lamb shoulder curry, the curry was quite mild and to say the lamb was tender is an understatement. The best lamb curry we have had in a long while.

The very Caribbean Jerk Chicken had been seriously marinated and was lovely and moist with plenty of flavour and went perfectly with the creamy Jalapeno Mac and Cheese side.

The miso tamarind Short ribs, fell off the bone and we loved the surging suggestion which was san choi bao style complete with green leaves to wrap and devour. This gave a lovely freshness to the dish.

For sides we ordered the super tasty Char Grilled Cauliflower which had a wonderful texture and delicious combo of sauces (I think I ate more than my fair share as I kept going back for more of this one!).

After the food is finished we sat back and enjoyed the bar like ambiance that seem to radiate once everyone’s bellies where full.

Couldn’t fault the service and really loved the atmosphere. A great nights dining.

Ummm so. much. yes!

Loving Zomato Gold for bringing my attention to Queen Vees, a Caribbean Kitchen and bar located on High St in Windsor. From the outside it doesn't look anything out of the ordinary, but stepping inside you are transported to the Caribbean. The decor and furnishings are absolutely perfect, and the staff were incredibly friendly.

There were SO MANY vegan options I was spoilt for choice. We opted to share the cornbread for entree, and I opted for the Jerk Jackfruit with a side of vegan mac n cheese for mains. This was a lot of food but was too appealing not to order. And for dessert we finished with the apple and rum syrup cake which was to die for.

Oh and the cocktails were incredible!

Can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu.

Where Hanoi Hannah once stood now stands Queen Vee’s, a Windsor bar and restaurant that’s all about exploring the diversity of flavours from across the Caribbean. We were recently invited to sample some of the menu and were keen to know more about this kind of food that’s not well known in Australia.

Fun night at Queen Vees last night with a few friends. We started with a couple of rounds of cocktails which were all really delicious. Some of us chose off the menu and some of us just asked the bar tender to make up something with our favourite flavours. They were so good!
All the food was packed full of flavour. The standouts for us were the creamy Mac & Cheese, the Jerk Chicken, the tasty Pumpkin curry and the beef short rib is a must! A really great place.

Cool little restaurant with a fun vibe. Staff are really friendly and helpful and food is tasty. We ordered the kingfish ceviche to start. Then we went for the jerk chicken, the roasted cauliflower and the mac and cheese. The jerk chicken was well cooked and definitely a generous portion size (half a chicken). The kingfish was a nice light way to start the meal and I would definitely recommend the mac and cheese as a side dish.

Had the absolute pleasure of dining at the amazing Queen Vees! 🙌🏽 Caribbean inspired restaurant that brings you all of Jamaica's favourite dishes! 🇯🇲 i'm gonna say this a few times during this review, these guys are BRILLIANT! 😍 Some of the tastiest dishes i've had in a while! If you haven't tasted Carribean Food before, I highly recommend for you to and Queen Vees is your GO-TO! 😉 Get around it! 🙏🏽
.
✅ 5/5! AMAZING DEPTH OF FLAVOURS! 👌🏽
.
🔥 HIT - honestly i just can't go past how good both the Jerk Chicken and the Ox tail was! 😮 the Jerk Chicken is brined in a secret Jerk Marinade then cooked and basted with more Jerk GOODNESS! 🌶 This is why it has two levels of flavours when eating it! You're not just having chicken thats been basted and cooked.. you're tasting flavours infused into the chicken from the brine, then the flavours of the basted crispy outer layer of chicken! 🐔 its seriously ridiculous! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! ⭐ next up is the Ox tail! If you havent tasted ox tail, don't be scared off by the name! ☺ it essentially has a similar texture and flavour to pork belly in my opionion. Soft, fatty, juicy pieces of meat that is packed with flavour and comes right off of the bone, served in a delicious sauce! 🤤 when Benji asked how it was, i literally told him "I'm in love.." 😍😂 these two dishes are brilliant! 👌🏽 Corn bread and Mac & Cheese was delicious and complimented both the Jerk Chicken and Ox Tail perfectly! 🙌🏽 these along with the spicy slaw and coconut corn were the perfect side dishes, adding texture and acidity to the table 🥗 WHAT A SPREAD! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! ⭐

💡 TIP - Ask for the Chefs recommendations if you're unsure what to order, they'll look after you with Caribbean style! 😎
4.5/5 You won’t find many Carribean restaurants in Melbourne, making Queen Vee’s a breath of fresh air. Nothing says Carribean quite like rum, and Queen Vee’s boasts a large range of 20+. There are also other options if you’re not into rum; the Baked Coconut Espresso Martini with vodka, roasted coconut and coffee is very smooth and easy to drink.

Tropical decor, groovy playlist, epic cocktails and delish food!!

I love love love the JERK JACKFRUIT here!! The ROASTED CAULIFLOWER is amazing too.

Queen Vees does vegan night every Tuesday with some amazing vegan specials such as VEGAN PRAWNS, CORNBREAD, PASTA!

Great place for dinner, or a cocktail before a night out ;) The team are super friendly and can make you something special!

I love visiting restaurants that embrace different cuisines, especially those with a bit of spice. With this in mind, I recently dined at Queen Vees, a restaurant that specialises in Caribbean food. The venue is small, but beautifully decorated with cool touches everywhere, including fantastic wallpapered walls. The place is quite casual, with bubbly staff who are extremely friendly and happy to offer suggestions from the menu.

We couldn't go past the jerk chicken with it's flavoursome, spicy coating and moist, juicy meat. So delicious, and the picked veg on the sides are zingy enough to cut through the spice of the chicken. We also chose the roti to sop up the flavours and some amazingly creamy jalapeno mac n cheese!! The spiced prawns were also amazing, so delicious. There are also some great choices for vegetarians and vegans, so that everyone can embrace the tastes of the Caribbean.

Overall, we definitely had a fun and tasty dinner in a relaxed and friendly venue. We will be back for sure!!

I was so excited to visit the newly opened Queen Vee's last week.

There was a very long wait between ordering and receiving our dishes, but I can normally forgive this if the dishes are outstanding.

Unfortunately whilst there was nothing wrong with the meals, I was left a little disappointed.
I went with a group and we ordered the 'jerk chicken', 'jerk fish', 'coconut, papaya and mango slaw', 'vegetable curry', 'char grilled cauliflower' and 'caribbean roti'.

The Jerk dishes and the roti were nice but nothing amazing. The coconut, papaya and mango slaw was a let down, I couldn't even taste the mango in it, and I'm still wondering if it was even included...
The savours were the the vegetable curry and the char grilled cauliflower. The cauliflower was perfectly flavoured and was the highlight of all the meals.

We dined at Queen Vee’s on a Saturday night, the place was buzzing. The wait staff were all so friendly and great to deal with. We managed to just sneak into happy hour and snagged a jug of sangria for $20.

The corn bread is an absolute must, oh my gawd seriously it was HEAVENLY. I honestly think I might return and order two serves for myself. With extra butter. What a time to be alive.

We also really enjoyed the jerk chicken salad, rice and peas and Mac and cheese with a jalapeño twist.

All in all this place is worth checking out, it gets busy on Saturday nights as expected so make sure you book!

The space formerly occupied by Hanoi Hannah’s first location has been transformed into a Caribbean kitchen and Bar - Queen Vee’s. Opened in late 2018 this new addition to High Street, Windsor’s food scene is an amazing spot to try the wonderful flavours of the Caribbean and celebrate with delectable cocktails.

4
Queen vee is a venue with delicious food and fantastic service!
We have ordered couple of popular dishes-
Corn bread: emmm I didn’t know corn bread was sweet... maybe it is just not sth for me
Oxtail stew: definitely a highlight.the meat was so tender full of flavor ! The baby carrots and beans were very tasty as well.
Jerk fish: delicious! The fish was freshly cooked and well marinated. It went well with the compliment cucumber and roasted pineapple. But after I squeezed the baked lime it tasted a bit biter.
Fries: really good crunchy thin fries.

All the food came with a big portion- which makes it a very reasonable price. The tap beer was also up to standard. Highly recommended !

Friendly service, great vibe and very fresh flavours. Loved the pickled sides and the jerk fish was tasty, fresh and innovative. Will definitely be back!

Not only is the food delicious, the service was fantastic. The waiter guided us through the menu and even gave us a taster of something he thought we should try. Great new spot!
