Review Kaaoli Sushi - Prahran

I only have pictures after our delicious meal because we devoured it with no hesitation. The flavour of the broth is unmatched. Having been to Japan this is a close second and most definitely authentic. Very neat and medium sized shop. Clean aswell. Could improve decor and drinks/desserts menu.

Great service, great food and a great place! Absolutely loved the tom yum chicken soup, the chicken was so tender and the noodles had so much flavour, the person serving and the owners were really nice and it was such a pleasure having dinner there, my only problem is that I ate more than I should've.

Get one star for the food, loose all stars cause it took 25 minutes for one teriyaki chicken. Doesn’t include waiting in line for 10 minutes to place the order

A special bowl of chicken dumpling ramen was enjoyed. The broth was very tasty and the dumplings perfect with a slight bite to the pastry and great filling. The soup also had plenty of fresh vegetables and a nice ramen with good texture and flavour. It filled me up nicely with its warm richness. The entrance isn't accessible. There are no restrooms. There is inside and outside seating. #letsguide

This is one of my favourite places for Japanese on Chapel Street. Their sushi is great with lots of brown rice options.

Vegan Friendly - Brown Rice Options even after 1:45pm.
I bought two vegetable hand rolls with tofu. Very nice. Friendly staff. I was happy that there were vegan brown rice options (many places do not offer this past 10:30-11:30).

I've only ever ordered their sushi on the two occasions I have been here, and the teriyaki salmon is beyond belief. Flavoursome, a bit crispy, good brown rice. I wish they'd provide Kewpie to take away as other places do, but it's immense otherwise. Quick service and looks pretty popular when I've been inside.

Had a teriyaki tofu don from these guys tonight. It was alright, the portion size was pretty small compared to most other places but the quality of the food was good. I paid to add extra tofu and they were generous with it. Not the best place ever, just your standard dealio.

Cute, little sushi bar on Chapel St. Their don buri's are some of the best value for money I've found, which is why I keep going back! Definitely worth a quick visit.

Loving their teriyaki sauce! Especially with the Una Dons. Ive ordered them a few nights in a row for delivery when cooking dinner was not an option. Great price with great food!

Good quality, Japanese style, "Sushi cafe"/take away that is quick, clean and inexpensive. The hand rolls are fresh and their Miso soup is a great hunger filler if you've got $2.50 and no time to spare!

Super average/borderline not worth it.
I ordered the curry katsu don and the mean was dark and chewy, there wasn't the crispiness that kastu normally has, the vegetables were frozen ones. The edamame were old and soggy, didn't have salt on them and the gyosa were very very oily.
I wouldn't order here again.

Very Disappointed to say the least. This review is based on a delivery. It's a simple problem with packing food properly for delivery, but most places have got this sorted. The Miso soup basically spilt everywhere inside the bag because it was put in a cup that was more suited to a take-away latte. The paper bag was leaking when the food was delivered (which I didn't realise) as I bought it inside and placed on my coffee table.

The two mains weren't great - I had Pork Belly Don. It was supposed to come with vegetables but both mains came with a basic salad and rice. Overall, this was a disappointing and underwhelming meal.

My new fave place for sushi (wish I had found it years ago!). Hand rolls are fresh, healthy and delicious. There is a good selection of brown rice rolls and the wasabi and pickled ginger are much more 'real' than you find elsewhere; they don't seem to be artificially dyed as is the norm for other sushi places. Haven't tried anything else here yet but do plan to. Highly recommend if you prefer healthy options!

Yummy and cheap. Their salmon teriyaki don is recommended and they have delicious and fresh hand rolls. Wish their trading hours were later though

Large menu with a variety of sushi, rice and noodle dishes. Can get very busy at lunch time, best to beat the rush and eat around 12pm on weekdays. Extremely fast service, great noodle soups.

Loved it!. I have been there many times to get sushi however I decided to get a Seafood Udon and it was possibly the best Asian dish I have ever eaten.
I was greeted with a smile and handed a menu and was asked if I wanted to sit down. Loved that.
They took my order and used all their staff, one to hand me a menu, one to take my order and one to pay at so I wasn't waiting long. Loved that.
The food was delivered at a high standard and quick. Loved that.
I was constantly asked if it was nice. Loved that.
This restaurant cares about their customers and what WE want rather than what's convenient for them.
It's not big, but it's comfortable and warm and I would happily return there and recommend it to everyone who wants Asian food.
It's also very cheap. I got my dish and a drink for just $14 which is cheap for the standard they have.
I loved it.

Great Japanese. Been to these guys many times and I'm never let down. They are friendly, kind and quick and their food is great. Would definitely recommend it if you want a nice cheap meal and they offer brown rice!

We've seen this place busy on lunches but we had dinner there. The spicy soba noodles looked like a stirfry made with sweet chili sauce and the sushi rolls were obviously left over from their day time menu as the seaweed was soggy and tempura chicken chewy. Not an expensive place but you can eat for a similar price at lunch so why make the dinner suffer?

It's ok but there are much better cheap Japanese places around. The girl serving looked at me like I had 2 heads when i ordered

Kaaoli is pretty good.. This place is great.

The restaurant isn’t big and fancy, but it’s very clean, charming and warm. The Beef/Chicken Bento and Beef Ramen is absolutely delicious. Nice people, great food and it’s pretty cheap as well. I highly recommend checking this place out.

8/10

Best cheap Japanese on chapel. One of my first impressions of a restaurant is how clean it is. I notice any detail of dust and grub-particularly near the food. Kaaoli is always impeccably clean, benches wiped down constantly and no trace of food mess to be seen. The service is good, staff are friendly- often with a smile. They serve probably the best (closest to authentic) takoyaki ive tasted in melbourne (its deep fried but perfectly gooey inside) - and i have tasted a few from other restaurants. Ordered almost everything off the menu. Food is delicious, fresh, full of flavor and serving sizes reflect great value for money. A definite go-to for cheap, no fuss and fresh japanese.
