A great place to chilllax. The background music is great and service ******. I feel safe and comfortable. It was busy in the morning but the service was quick with a smile. Come in and check it out cause its one of the best ive been too.
Risked myself getting late for work to try this one 😅 I didn’t feel like going to the usual so I went here and it didn’t disappoint, especially when I was greeted so very kindly by the barista/cashier. Small gestures do really have a big impact on someone’s morning 🤗
Thesr guys do a great little coffe food could use abit of work though in afew areas.
Though decent for a quick stop in if you are around the area!
Piccolo is a seriously cute little hideaway from the Chapel St bustle. I have not tried the food but the coffee is lovely and the staff are friendly.
I would love to give it a higher score but the wait times have recently become unreasonable. I had to wait 15 minutes for a normal latte. Not ideal in the work rush and probably not worth the wait.
Had a cheeky double shot latte here on Tuesday on the sidewalk chairs and it was fantastic. The super cool lady inside with the very short hair and see thru top was very friendly in between doing a little bit of chalk art inside. Coffee was super smooth. It's close to the corner of High and Chapel St so a little bit quieter than if it was right on Chapel. There's some free one hour parking just in St Edmonds St. Great place to watch some rich cars and hipsters slide past.
Found this by accident.
Comfortable ambiance.
Coffee made as requested, no arguments. ✅
Pleasant, uncomplicated service. Will come again when next in the area.
I used to live just on the corner of this joint and enjoyed good, hot coffee in the mornings. I love that this place opens early as getting in before the work crowds hit is a definitely plus. Especially being a TINY space, waiting for coffee can get a bit pushy and shovy. Apart from that coffee is great and the benches outside are cosy enough to enjoy a catch up with a friend without the hustle and bustle of Chapel St.
Sat outside with the dog and a friend. Nice people watching and nice soft cushions on the benches. Service was friendly. Had a mix of the salads for lunch it was very lovely!
It's really nice to see a local cafe take the time and pride to serve it's clientele with genuine care and friendliness - that's what I truly observed here whilst enjoying brunch at Piccolo Espresso. The vibe at this cafe is really amazing and you're made to feel incredibly welcome as soon as you enter, not just because you're a paying customer. There never appears to be a rush here, even though the cafe itself isn't all that large.
In a word though, OUTSTANDING. The food selection is incredible, so much so that I couldn't decide. I was certainly torn between the claim of "best scrambled eggs" and my gut feel for panini. I just couldn't decide, so I asked for both and was absolutely delighted. And the soy latte was excellent as well - perfect temperature, great balance and taste and terrific crema.
The scrambled eggs were incredibly light and fluffy, with a creamy texture (as well as a decent density) that is kind of difficult to describe - but definitely amazing. And the panini - WOW!! The tastes that were activated from this delight were astonishing with an absolutely perfect balance of basil, oils and tomato dressed in mozzarella within Turkish bread. Stunning!!
The only two notes of (ever so slight) disappointment were extremely crusty edges on the toast for the scrambled eggs and a slight imbalance in the amount of mozzarella on one side of the panini compared to the other. But other than that, this was an absolutely terrific brunch and this cafe has certainly become an instant local favourite in the area for me, just off the "beaten track" off Chapel Street. :)
My mum thinks this is the best scrambled eggs she has ever had. I don't disagree they are good. The service is good here as is the coffee. Would come again if in the area however there are other places around I would probably visit first. This place is true value for money!
Cold brew was awesome as well as the big breakfast, great spot and the waitress was really lovely and nice and checked if everything was peanut free for my girlfriend.
Time travelling back four months to when I lived in Prahran, this tiny hole in the wall cafe tucked off Chapel Street was my favourite coffee dealer. It’s matchbox-sized, so you often have to do a little Foxtrot between fellow addicts while you wait, but the resulting coffee is worth the dance. This grungy cafe, that is more Windsor than it is Prahran, also serves breakfast and bagels. But strangely, like a country town, it’s only open until 1pm on Saturday and not at all on Sunday
Friendly service, food was good and coffee is not bad. Very good no frills cafe and will return for the simple fact it is no frills. Thanks guys.
Funky little place close to work. Â Great tasting latte at a good price and friendly staff. Â Haven't tried the food but it all looks fantastic.
I only had coffee, good service, long black with good crema but unfortunately only tepid. Barista did his best with the machine set to this temp, I just need it ten degrees hotter.
Piccolo is my favorite cafe in Melbourne. The staff are super friendly and the coffee is perfect. They do a delicious breakfast (I think it's called the Piccolo) but pick anything and you won't go wrong. Highly recommend!
Cute as button. Nice people, great coffee n great chillax tunes. Good for a quick caffeine fix if you're in the n'hood. Will be back to try the food.
Just demolished food here. Funky and intimate little cafe. Extra points for playing vinyl. Coffee was delicious, can't go wrong with 5 senses. Dish was good, had the smashed avo with Parmesan, poached eggs and added mushies. Was good, but nothing phenomenal. My only gripe was the delay in service. Took a while to get water and to take our order. But the coffee will get me back.

Coming here as a student when Swinburne was around was good - they were generous with my hot brekky, and coffee was awesome.
But with Swinburne gone - and apartments instead, well... it's lost its' shine, despite good coffee :(

Piccolo has a great thing going – good coffee, a relaxed and unpretentious environment, delicious and affordable food, and friendly service. I imagine it must be pretty popular with the Swinburne students. I will definitely be back again
Coffee out of this world! Food was delicious. Wonderfully friendly staff and laid back atmosphere. Eclectic decor with music from vinyl records.
Delicious coffee, friendly staff. Laid back and friendly vibe paired with delicious, freshly ground coffee. I'll be back :)
Quiet achiever. Top coffee (and the barista guy seems to remember what coffee everyone has!)... A great place to hang out and enjoy good food with friendly down to earth staff who clearly know how to connect with their customers.
My daily latte stop en route to the train station. A local secret with some of the best coffee south of the river. Forget chapel st.
Funky cafe. Enjoyed breakfast here with a voucher. The service was excellent and the staff are friendly, along with great food, juice and coffee at reasonable prices. Seemed to be the kind of place that will be worth coming back to.
Great breakfast, friendly service. Great eggs Benedict and hot chocolate. Friendly service. Takeaway cupcakes were delicious and light. Nice find, an oasis on the high street.
THE BEST. Went to this hidden gem on a Groupon for brekky. Staff were great coffee and milkshakes were fantastic and the Eggs Benedict blew my mind!
Will 100% be back!
Best coffee around and most friendly service. This is a must for coffee and good food
Excellent Coffee!. Coffee is to perfection!
Bloody brilliant. Very friendly staff, very decent food at a very very good price.
what more could you ask for around the neighborhood of Prahran? It has a very cool vibe about it, without the pretension of say, Speak Easy...
the avocado and salmon on toast is some of the bes ti have had.. and for 12 bucks (i think) .. what a steal!!
MUST TRY THE CHAI LATE.. finally someone that understands the concept of honey, soy and cinnamon. Heaven
Wow! I'm impressed! The new owners have really vamped the place up! A great place to have coffee and mingle with friends on a Thursday or Friday night. I give piccolo a 10/10 for service and quality! My new home! :-)
This place is my favourite brekky spot! I have been at Swinburne for the past few years and didn't like it under the previous management! It now has the loveliest staff and owners ever, who know all their regulars by name. Must try the mushrooms on toast which are the most delicious mushrooms I've ever had ! Big thumbs up and a smile from me !
New management and ownership from last year (2012), to this year (2013), had some big expectations to meet. But the team have come through solidly. Nat, Bridgit, Kate and Samx2 serve up a warm and hip cafè culture. Love 'em at Piccalos. :-).
Cool but not 'Too Cool'. Piccolo Espresso is a fab little spot with a very convenient location. It's got a funky fit out and the front smoking area is a fantastic spot to let the sunlight hit you and meet new people. The coffee here is actually really great and more importantly, consistent. Food here is a bit naff, and quite expensive. I think they were aiming for that boutique sort of menu, however I don't believe they have a kitchen and it seems a bit awkward to attempt lunch and breakfast in such a limited space. Service here is hit and miss; some have been quite hostile for no apparent reason, however there are a few staff there who are genuinely lovely people and conduct service with a smile. I would recommend going to Piccolo Espresso when you want to chill out, listen to good music and have a few cups of coffee.
Consistently good coffee, simple food done well, friendly staff & great tunes!
Wonderful. Great super friendly service and the food and coffee were so tasty. Great atmosphere. Can't wait to bring more friends here.
I'm Hooked!. After working in the area for only a couple of weeks, I found myself drawn to Piccolo every working day... this then became twice a day, and it's been 8 months now!
The coffee is expertly made, but does not fall short of characteristic. The food is fresh and of quality, and very affordable. I usually order an iced mocha and a feta, tomato and fresh basil Turkish pide -delicious.
My favourite thing about Piccolo though, is the staff. Mannie and his team are gentle, interesting and innovative. They know all their regulars very well, and always have time to hear everyone's story of the day.
Love the place!
Sicckkkest Big Breakfast (Mininstry of Sound they call it)
Enjoyed a short mac to get me through the afternoon while in Melbourne.. It was nice, not the best I have had but that comes down to preference of coffee.. Worth calling in if in area for a hit.
Funky csfe..Awesome coffee, awesome staff, they even remember you after it having been a year since last visit and play real records, all sorts of gems like Sinatra
Love this place its our favorite cafe we have coved 31000 ks in Australia on Motorbikes over the last year love cafe's this is the one we dream of lovey staff
A little bit of spin.... Well, I guess it's fair to say I've been following this place's progress closely since it opened as a tiny little hole in the wall 5 years ago. Over that time I've seen it go through multiple identities... the coffee has always been stand out, the staff have been an ever eclectic breed of industry up and comers and the food (while often basic) has never failed to lift my mood and remind me what it is that gets me out of bed in the morning - regardles of my state.
Yumtastic. Amazeballs coffee, great food created with love..and delicious ingrediants and arguably the cutest cafe crew in town, if your not here, your wasting yo' day!
What a find!. Dropped in just the other day while heading down to Chapel Street and was blown away by the coffee! The cute female barista / manager explained that they're the only user of Niccolo roasts at the moment - sure to get a cult following in Prahan. Nice digs, love the record player. I'll be back!
The best coloured coffee cups in town, be sure to ask about their ministry of sound collection!!

Pickle Oh!. Lovely, friendly staff. Best Scrambled Eggs I've had in a long time.. and kickass coffee. The decor and the vinyl make for a cool atmosphere. Gotta love those 2 shots during happy hour! make it your local!
Cool as. Great coffee every single time, friendly staff and good brekky into the bargain. The perfect local coffee haunt.
Great service, great coffee and a wonderful breakfast in this little find on high street, just off the bustling chapel street. Good jazz background music coupled with a small dining area, creates a really nice intimate atmosphere when catching up with mates.
Hot chocolate is legit and very homely! It’s a very affordable cafe. The only thing I could say is being more allergy friendly especially in a metropolitan suburb, I.e. cleaning out the toasters or having separate toasters
Cosy little cafe with free wifi and student specials! It’s open early enough for a coffee before work and the dude behind the coffee machine is super friendly. The other staff however aren’t as welcoming
Great coffee and service, very cosy space, cool library room and good unpretentious food.
Wonderful place to order tea and coffee, customer service is amazing. Food and drinks are both really good for reasonable prices.
strongly recommend this place :)
Great coffee and lovely friendly service.
My flat white always tastes beautifully balanced. At most cafes, I order a strong flat white to make sure that I can taste the espresso, and not just milk. But at Piccolo, there's no need.
Creamy mushrooms absolutely delicious and very good value breakfast for two and large coffees under $30 definitely recommend
