Review Red Bean Coffee - Preston

Edward Hore
Great breakfast menu, a shop inside a shop where you can buy the coffee and small items. The cafe was warm on a cold morning. Plenty of seats, but gets filled quickly. Staff friendly and shop clean. Toilets comfortable. Prices are good, no different from the rest of the area. This cafe is nestled amongst a lot of competition, so it has to work hard. They do it well. Shop local and try local.

Beutiful place with very friendly staff. Bery bussy. Dog friendly! I love the artworks on the walls and the doggo gallery. Food looks amazing, it’s pretty tasty. For sure we’ll be back

Best customer service, best food (have to give their eggs benny a try👌🏽👌🏽) and definitely the best coffee. Honestly nothing bad to say about these guys.

Great coffee! Great value basic brunch. Great selection of reusable cups for sale. The customer service is fantastic and they are very dog friendly :) This place kept me sane during lockdown.

Very cool cafe. Relaxed, great food and coffee. Excellent service.

Two things to say about this joint: 1) Great coffee .They roast their beans on site which is amazing- but the final end product in that cup is what matters. And they deliver time and time again :) I often like trying various coffee shops to see what suits my taste- this one is goes into my top 5! Outstanding coffee people! 2) Alex is top. I asked him some questions around extraction timings for my home coffee machine - he was so generous with his knowledge. I stepped behind the machine and watched the artist at work! Thanks again Nav

Great food and very nice indoor/outdoor seating here for those sunny mornings. Interestingly, although they roast their own coffee beans, a small flat white/cappuccino will set you back $4.60

Just got a coffee here. Been awake since four am and desperate for one.. Nowhere else in the area was open at this time (7) gorgeous cosy place. Lovely staff and GREAT coffee.

Great venue. Good menu and spacious. Unfortunately though service is rather poor. 15 minutes wait at the table before approaching the counter to ask for a menu. Whilst at the counter there were at least three workers with their backs to me. Was not overly busy but the food still took an hour to arrive. A little fore warning about the delay or an apology both acceptable but neither offered. When the food arrived the waiter was surprised to see we did not have cutlery. 15 minutes after the food was finished the plates we stacked for them were taken. It was decided it would be quicker to wait another 3-4 mins as the only customer to order another round of coffees. Unfortunately the macchiato panama blend was completely spoiled by the fact the glass smelt like egg. Although it was replaced I still left with 6 others feeling disappointed. I don't normally review places but feel sad to see what I think could be an excellent business let down by such poor service something that could easily be fixed. Having worked in the industry before for 10 years I wonder how many more suggestive coffees would be sold? Customers aware of delays in the kitchen and just in general the lack of table service. It's perfectly acceptable to have people order at the counter if that's what you want. Happy to offer advice or discuss further with management if they read this.

This is our local cafe. Friendly staff. Top notch beans(I purchase them by the kilo for home use and, yes they are exceptional!) Awesome barristas. Great food. Nice decor. Doesn't get much better. 5 stars from me!!

Just found my new local , yummy

I searched the cafe in Northern area which has the own roasting coffee beans. Red bean coffee roasters has variety of tasty coffee beans.

When I arrive near by, there was cafe on each block on Plenty Rd and they all looked very popular lovely cafes. It was also hard to get a parking spot on Sunday morning.

I ordered beautiful long black. It was nutty deep flavour and fresh after taste.

Barista and new staff were so helpful to choose coffee beans. They were very knowledgeable and friendly.
I bought the Brazil coffee which I had today.

I took home and had some more beautiful afternoon coffee🍵
I will try the Kenya coffee next visit which the barista recommended it for me😊

Been here few times, love the vibe of this place, the coffee might not the best i had, but their burger were sooo good, absolutely love it, and the service were friendly and nice.

Love having Red Bean as my local cafe. Staff are always super friendly and welcoming, keeps us coming back for more great coffee and delicious food. Loving the newly updated food menu, toasties are yummy- great value for money, Moroccan chicken salad is fantastic and the benedict bagel is always a winner! Chips probably aren't one of their strengths, could be better cooked so they're more crispy. Overall, one of the best cafes in Preston!

I found this coffee roaster about 3 years ago and i have been buy my coffee i have tried other coffee but for me it's the best i love my Lady Red the staff are really helpful and polite i live in Craigeburn but still go to get my coffee from it takes about 40 mins but well worth the drive because then i have a coffee to drink on the way home
Kelly Costa
Great coffee! Really loved it. We also had breakfast and were very impressed with the options for gluten free and the value for money, and friendly service!
Ruth Cathcart
Nearly a 4. Staff were friendly. Menu had most of the standard items and a couple of variants. Vibe was ok. Coffee was ok. Avo smash was standard and other meals tasty.
Would come here again if I was over this way but not a stand out to travel for.
Angelat
Consistently good food. Friendly staff. Last visit we where a table of 7. We all tried something different. Not one bit of criticism. Impressed at the vego options, which where creative

Another throwback review of a chill and retro vibe cafe I went to over the winter holidays in Preston. I ordered the Athlete Bagel... I knew that I had to try it because I am a huge sucker for bagels and this was devoured in 5 minutes! This cafe is so hidden but once you see it, you can’t not go inside and see how awesome it is!
Steven Tripp
A bit mixed in the service department between some attentive and some apathetic workers, but the food gives this place 5 stars! I had the beetroot and sweet potato waffles with 3 poached eggs. I would definitely recommend trying this as a gluten free way to start the day!

Spontaneous lunch today with our little family of 3 at red bean was delicious. The coffee was lovely, the service was friendly! Smoothie was not the best we have had but was nice. The coffee was fabulous, both my latte and my husbands cold drip! The best part were the nachos! What a fabulous creation! Only downside was the wait between his drink and mine, he was almost finished before my hot coffee came. Will be returning!

Not many places can say they roast their own coffee let alone on site!
Red bean have been a staple in the area for a long time now and seem to always get better.
Staff and owners are friendly and very helpful. The owner walked me through all the blends for the take-home beans and also I picked up a keep cup.
These guys constantly give back to the community and are huge on being eco friendly.Must try: Pope blend coffee beans - Eggs Benedict
Wakeuphungry
Beautiful cafe with great atmosphere. The staff are always warm and welcoming and happy to accomodate for my picky tastes due to being pregnant. Great quality food, lots of veg/vegan options and free range/sustainable produce. Best mocha I’ve ever had with real chocolate pieces!
Rohan Graham
Pretty average in terms of service and food. Went there expecting something better than average and was a little disappointed. Very bland food that required a heap of salt and pepper as it had no flavour. Any time a plate sits on your table after being used for longer than 10 minutes is poor in my book
BennySkinnyCap
Red Bean is my #1 go-to for breakfast, brunch when I want breakfast for lunch and coffee
When I go to a new cafe Red Bean is my gold standard comparison for Eggs Benedict, their bagel Benedict is to die for and their serves of avo are usually amazingly generous
Sometimes they skimp a little on the sauce but the staff are normally happy to get some more
Always get a cappuccino and am yet to be disappointed
This is literally a Bagel Benny + cappa appreciation post
Love the open atmosphere and staff are always on their game, such a funky place I'm always taking friends and family here when I get the chance to show them my haunt
Um did I mention that I just really love Red Bean??
Tango
A cafe you can get a sit down breakfast or lunch. Otherwise they have some magnificent cakes. The coffee is probably one of the best brewed north of the city.

Awesome chilled casual dinning experience for a relaxed brunch.

Perfect service with a coffee on the table before we had even ordered our meals!

My friend and myself had the benidect bagel which was so tasty and very large in size for the price.

Awesome place, defiantly will be returning

Look,

The coffee is good and they are really nice. But the menu is.... Boring? I don't know. The food isn't exciting or innovative!

And the space is kind of weird. Strange animal prints in the wall 😝

Not exactly appetising. But I get it. It's got like the tiger theme.

Staff are super lovely and the coffee is good and consistent. But my attention is usually food and decor. 🙃
AJ
Food was not bad, their coffee blends are the best coffee my connoisseur friend has ever tasted, it was smooth with a sweet flavour without any sugar.

A friend suggested we meet at Red Bean for Sunday brunch and I'm glad he did. I was a little early and ordered a coffee - flat white as usual. It was seriously GREAT coffee. Strong, rich, smooth. I called the waiter over (later finding out his name is Peter). "This coffee," I said "...is the best coffee I've had in a long time." At that his look of concern turned to joy and he came over and gave me a hug. Gotta love Melbourne service! For the record, the blend of the day was Lady Red. Next time I'm going to buy some beans and bring them home.

Red Bean roasts and blends its own coffees. The owners' ethos is to *"offer exceptional coffee to our clients and to support the planet, coffee growers & their community through Rainforest Alliance". They also source locally grown food where possible and we were told that when sourcing eggs, one of the owners actually visited the producer to make sure it was as beautifully free range as she was seeking. Now that's impressive and worth supporting.

My friend, also called Peter, and I ordered our brunches. Peter's was a chicken and mushroom ciabatta and I just wanted a simple brunch so asked for sourdough toast with one egg, bacon and avocado. (Smashed of course, because it's a very Melbourne thing to smash avocado). Peter (the waiter) was very accommodating and flexible and I like that in a cafe very much.

I also ordered roasted tomato but I've just realised while writing it was missed - both off my plate and the bill (phew). I actually think if a cafe is willing to accommodate something simple that's off menu and price it fairly then that's worth a big tick, because Peter charged me for a kids' egg brunch (one egg) and the tomato probably slipped his mind. I obviously didn't notice it missing, so not a big deal and I'm sure it would have been rectified if I'd asked.

Both our brunches were good. The quality of the aforementioned free range eggs was visible in the deep yellow-orange of the yolk (and in the scrambled eggs I saw delivered to other tables). They were incredible. The free range bacon was also tasty, but I never did find out if it's nitrite free. I don't eat bacon much because of nitrites, but enjoy it when I do.

My only criticism was that despite lovingly smashing the avocado, it lacked a zing and I'm noticing that a bit in cafe avocado lately. A bit of lime and pepper goes a long way to enhance this beautiful creamy greenery, but on the plus side it was a generous portion and perfectly ripe.

My Red Bean rating of 4.5 is for its exceptional coffee, fabulous friendly service and fresh, locally sourced produce (especially those eggs!). I'm looking forward to going back again soon.

*quote sourced from Red Bean's website

I have visited this cafe several times, and on occasion tried others in the area like the cafe next door. I have never been disappointed. The staff are always friendly and attentive. Sometimes it gets busy, especially on weekends, and the service is still pretty good. I visited there yesterday for a quick bite and tried something I have not had before, the Open Omelette. It was really great. The omelette was perfectly cooked and the fresh ingredients on top really made it refreshing. Definitely will have that again. The place has a good feel and warm.
By far, the best part is their coffee. They roast on site, in fact they were roasting yesterday when I was there. I have never had a bad coffee, and although there are a lot of cafe's with different coffee claims in Melbourne, this one has never disappointed. This place is by far the best cafe in the area.

This is a cute little cafe with a range of typical breakfast dishes. The interior is edgy and homely, staff are attentive. MUST TRY their milkshakes - they use natural flavouring and the consistency is just perfect. I recommend the caramel one with coconut milk.

Ok. Nothing special. Nothing bad. Atmosphere was meh. But staff were good. It's missing something. Menus has all the expected nothing more. Nothing really to go back for

I really enjoyed the coffee and the food here at Red Bean Coffee Rosters. The service wasn't that great especially considering the restaurant wasn't busy at the time we visited. I ordered the smashed avo. It was really tasty and I liked how this cafe put a different twist on what a normal cafe would do! My sister ordered the eggs benedict which she said was quite ordinary. Overall a good experience. Would return to try some other things on the menu or for a take away coffee!

I was looking for a good coffee spot and finally got a chance to try this place.

Service was fast, efficient and good. The coffee was smooth blend and beautifully roasted.

Didn't really have much time to try the food but will be back to try the menu as it looks so yummy.

Just had to review this place. Since I started drinking short blacks I have become a coffee snob. Sad I know, but it's now pretty rare that I get a really good coffee. The stuff here is AWESOME and it really does seem to taste red to me!! Don't cover up the flavour with milk though!

Had the 'Green Eggs' here again today, very nice. As was my daughters smashed Avocado. Service courteous and efficient. Great dog friendly venue. Coffee is great also.
Katherine Xi Lin
I got the cold drip coffee from the reviews from other customers and ordered their special dish which was the pumpkin soup. It's so smooth and my partner got a wagyu bagel! A big thumb up!!

I had a couple of coffees and a raspberry lamington in this very tidy cafe. It's right next door to Sartoria with a large and very cool picture of a tiger's head. There's seating outside, a couple of lounges (hogged at the time by a single individual - what's the etiquette here?) near the entrance and some more seating further in. One of which can be opened up if the weather suits which would be lovely. Not really much to say other than the coffee is quite good even with a bit of spillage and the lamington satisfactory although it could be bigger. My wife says the toilet was the cleanest she's seen in Melbourne - that's impressive! Staff were also quite friendly. Overall everything was fine but the next door venue has a better ambience - it's tough competition on High Street!
Lucy Luu
Good coffee !! It was smooth and strong which I like :)
Breakfast was nice as well , one thing I would say is I wish they toasted my sourdough bread !
Other than that no issues. I

This is our local for brekky most weekends. The food is always excellent and there are plenty of vegetarian options too. Service and staff are great. Also a great place to big the dog - they even have a dog bed.

Nothing special about this place!
Coffee is the only good thing about our morning experience.
We've order simple dish: Poches eggs on multi + spinach we received poached eggs on Sourdough no spinach! + they forgot the mushroom on my husband plate!
No apologies from the person who made the order wrong and nothing to compensate!
We are both from hospitality in different cafe, I guess this isn't a good way to keep customers!
Won't be back and won't recommend that's for sure.

Restaurant: Cleans restaurant with plenty of tables to choose from and great decor fitting the restaurants aim.

Food: Brilliant and we love the burgers we have tried 4 different ones and all have been amazing. Love the pickles they are to die for.

Staff/Service: friendly, fun. Polite and happy to assist in suggestions when needed.

Price: reasonably priced and value is exceptional

Love this cafe, nice environment and friendly staff. Ordered big brekkie and egg benedict bagel, which are the best in Preston. I like the coffee milkshake, not that sweet and yummy
The Delicioso Melbourne
Went for breakfast.
Ordered a latte, which was quite enjoyable... but when it came to the food I was quite disappointed. The Bagel Benedict has a good presentation, but the poached eggs had a few problems as they were not dried properly and there was too much water on the bagel, I also found some egg shells as I was bitting into it.

Spacious and inviting environment the staff are friendly and attentive. Good selection of menu items but what you should not forget is to have coffee great great coffee . Must visit if in preston

Wanted to give this place a go and had some expectations. Well those expectations were met and surpassed. Just reading through the menu everything looked amazing. Catering for all diets and even having information about their cafe and suppliers was a wonderful touch so you know that what you are getting is Australian made. Also love that there is some treats for peoples pooches.

Sitting at a table outside was amazing. Perfect weather, not too hot or cold and just a nice breeze. plus it was also quiet so I can easily talk. Started with coffees. Wasnt the best but also wasnt the worse, maybe in my top 5. With each sip the flavours change from being smooth balanced coffee, to a sweet sour, to a bitter roughness. But it was still drinkable and needed no sugar.

Next food. I ordered the Benedict Bagel which peaked my interest to see a twist on the original eggs benedict, while my partner ordered the double stacked grass feed beef burger. Was wowed by the presentation when the waiter placed the plates in front of us. As soon as I cut open the eggs they were perfectly poached with the yolk oozing out onto the sweet holindase sauce. The bacon mouth watering delicous with crispy edges that sat on a soft avocado smash all in between lightly toasted bagel halves. Never have I been so impressed with the look of the food to have the flavours amaze me more. From having the warm dishes to changing to the chilled salad, the dressing made my taste buds tingle giving me more to enjoy. I tried some of my partners and the meat patty was perfectly cooked and still juicy. Best thing is you get full but its nice and light that you can keep going with your day.

Thanks Red Bean. Im definitely coming back to try more.

Im usually way to lazy to leave a review...on anything. But in all my years of eatting ive never had a burger so amazing. Their double beef burger is perfect. I wouldnt change anything about it. from the bun, sauce, pickles, and most importantly the beef was all a 10 out of 5...yes you read that correctly. This is what i imagined a crabby patty to taste like. As a Māori we have big families and i would take them all to this joint.

Kapai tö mahi te toa red bean coffee. Ko teno reka te kai hanawiti. Hire ano te toa apopo. Tino pai!! Atahua te miti e ngari te taro, te rewai..teno reka!

This place has improved amazingly since a few years ago. Great menu, great coffee and friendly staff. And they know how to happily accomodate dogs in the outdoor area.
Collette Eva Arnheim
First time here, was really good to see so many veggies on the menu. Dish was very filling, eggs beautifully poached, good variety of sides without it all being deep fried or smothered in oil. Only downside was they didn't offer us water when we were seated. Would come again to try the rest of the menu.
IloveMelbourne
Finally tried Red Bean Coffee Roasters on Plenty Rd Preston. I had the Free Range Green Eggs. It was fantastic. Very filling. Stacked high with smoked salmon and tasty omelette. Also had a almond latte. Good coffee.
Sweet Chilli
Great strong coffee! We were running early for work so we decided to have breakfast. Service and breakfast is great and so too are the muffins. Needless to say the coffee is perfect!

Lost their charm.
After coming to red bean since they opened, they seem to have lost their charm, the food is extremely average and often bland. Might be a good idea to speak to staff about what item's are on the menu as they often don't know and if it's going to take 30 mins to prepare a salad, kids toastie please let your customers know. Coffee is still pretty good and when the team are roasting the place smells amazing. Final Note: after many years Please fix your roof as it is horrible as dust and crud are constantly falling from the roof into our food & coffee's.
LC.
Delish food with a relaxed atmosphere. Super flavourful and varied menu and friendly staff. Would definitely return. The coffee and hot chocs were also amaze.
"JT" Jeffrie Trika
For the love of Coffee .......

Must give credit to anyone that roasted their own coffee beans, as quality & freshness is more reliable. My short black and Soy Latte was enjoyable.

On the food side they are above average but nothing sensational to remember by.

This was a stand alone cafe on that street for a long time, now more cafes are coming up left right and centre. must work on that edge.
Erica Anne
Been here multiple times now and always find the food great and service fantastic. It's often very busy on weekends but the staff are always friendly and cater to a range of dietary requirements (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free etc.)The place has a great atmosphere and get's bonus points for being dog friendly, and of course the coffee is delicious.
BrunchQueen
The coffee was one of the best I've ever had! The only let down was the long wait for the food to come out. No apology either. 40 minutes for 2 simple dishes is just way to long. The food was good, but don't come here if your starving!
GV
Nice place for breakfast, pet friendly, very nice and welcoming staff and great coffee. Will be back for sure. I just wish they would bring back the Croque madam that was a 10/10 with that green sauce.
Cedra
It took a friend's devotion to this place to bring me around - I feel like such a fool for overlooking what is far and away the best cafe in south Preston. Great coffee, delicious treats (lemon biscuit!), and perfect poached eggs (for when you're properly hungry). I just had the pea zucchini fritters for a change of pace and... YUM! I thought "it's about time I review this place"... And here we are. Oh, and the team are lovely too, and so patient with my crazy family when we all turn up together.

I have visited this café on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. The consistency in which they prepare their tasty dishes is commended. Their smashed avocado dish is a must for an alternative to the traditional brekkie (which is also on the menu - which includes a fabulous rendition of baked beans and a yummy potato rosti), and their BLT and pork belly were also very enjoyable. Refurbished warehouse featuring "industrial chic" design is tastefully decorated providing a warm inviting atmosphere makes this establishment a pleasure to frequent not to mention awesome coffee and friendly attentive staff. The only downside, would love to see real chocolate used in preparing their iced chocolates.
Jono
Dario is the best he loves giving me my smashed avo. ................................................................................................................Louisa Torcasio

Haven't eaten here, but they make a good coffee here. They roast their beans in house, and have a variety of single origins and blends on offer. My wife had a thickshake here which was only average tbh. Matchaa tea was also good.
Bobski
Along with Cedars Bakery, this is one of my favourite places to sit and read for an hour or so in an area that is clearly starting to bustle. Warehouse-y vibe, the coffee is good, though never great, and the music sometimes a bit loud, but I'm here a lot.
FindingMelbourne
Been a bit of a broke week so my eating experiences have been minimal, however I'm currently having an obsession with Red Beans lemon biscuits!! They are unbelievable! There's something about them that has totally got me hooked, I'm interested to try their coffee but haven't had the time to sit and enjoy, but it'll definitely happen as I can't stay away from the area.
Charizard
We had their Bagel Benedict, Roast Pumpkin Salad and Spinach & Eggs. The Bagel Benedict was average, with decent bagel and well poached eggs. However, I felt that there was just too much hollandaise sauce. The addition of avocado was novel and added more points to the dish. The Roast Pumpkin Salad was great while the Spinach & Eggs was satisfactory. The potato rosti was well fried and the dill mayo was fragrant. In spite of that, the salmon was slightly too salty while the scrambled was not flavourful enough. Last but not least, I felt that the Italian Iced Coffee was too bitter, but some avid coffee lovers may love it.
Hungry-Caterpillar
Breakfast looked great, came out in decent timeframe however the avocado wasn't fresh. Had a slightly fermented taste. May have been a little old. Coffee was good and that made up for it.
Crispymelbreview
Only visited this place after it was recommended in a book of Melbourne's best cafes. The coffee was uninspiring. I didn't bother ordering anything from the bland egg-centric menu.
Gill
We live locally have have been there three times. Coffee and chocolates only warm each time. Very disappointing to spend money on luke warm drinks even though we asked for them hot. Staff friendly enough.
Amy Boulding
Friendly staff, great vibe, super service and FANTASTIC food. I had the green eggs, which was too big to finish but yummy to the end. Coffee was also lovely, just what I'd hoped for. A little gem tucked away in an unexpected spot.

Awsum coffèe selection
Best in the area by far.....
Funky warehouse vibe
First class barista too who actually cares

Well done guys.
Get some signage tho
Hard to find with blank walls.

Has my first opportunity to dine in subsequent to my coffee take aways.

Hard to believe poached eggs could be so good and really good.

Obviously free range then perfectly cooked with a dust of the spice dukkah
Gorgeous sourdough toast thinly cut unlike others who thick slabs of bread is good
Even the cutlery was right for toast cutting
Awsum guys def recommend
Friendly staff and good coffee. But not really a big fan of burnt burger patty. Luckily my friend didn't mind and we just swapped. Nice veggie burger tho.

Have been getting Red Bean coffee from Nunawading farmers market for quiet some time and decided to take a trip to the cafe. Best decision I have e we made. I had the oven baked beans with avocado and polenta and hubby had the gluten free pancakes both were to die for. We had tiger mountain been coffee and it was rich an smooth and ver delish. I even got some to take home. If you are in the area or even if you arm"t it is well worth it to go there. Staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive.

Pretty good cafe. Food was ok without being amazing. Eggs were cooked nicely. Menu was a bit plain. Service was excellent. Plenty of space.
Jaimi Leigh
I am a regular at this cafe. I love that they have coconut milk, which is creamier than almond. Coffee is great, as is the food. Lastly, I think it's great that they make the effort to source ethically certified free range meats and eggs, and recycled paper cups. Definitely worth a visit!

The best coffee I have had in my life! Traveling from Perth to the coffee capital of Australia I was expecting some good things. My first couple of coffees in the CBD and Fitzroy didn't blow me away. It was at Red Bean, a humble cafe in the industrial suburb of Preston that I met my true love. Smooth, silky and creamy. It ticked all the boxes! The gorgeous artwork on the cup was the cherry on top. Next time I'm in Melbourne, Red Bean will be my first stop.
AdeleUMelb
Lovely food & service. We come here regularly for breakfast and brunch.
Food is always fresh and delicious and presented well, their gluten free bread is really yummy.
Waiting staff are friendly and always smiling and helpful.
Great cafe. We love it.

Rbc Big Breakfast. Awesome satisfying brunch

Great local. Regular here and totally agree with coffee reviews. Always have the smashed avo which is delicious, too big to add the poached eggs. They love dogs, even provide dog beds for them. Our dog has met lots of other friendly dogs here. Also as it opens onto the street, we bump into neighbours regularly. They've made a great effort with .the outdoors area, nice plants. Music is good too. Have applied for an evening trading licence. Hope they're successful

Great place to relax. Wandered past on my way between meetings, it looked friendly and inviting, I was hungry, so I went in. The staff are very friendly, the food and service are excellent, and the other patrons happy to chat away the time. Tried the chicken salad and enjoyed very much

Beef Burger with Hand Cut Chips. Very tasty

Beef Burger with Hand Cut Chips. One of the tastiest burgers I've had in a long time!

This place really shines through its coffee and great friendly staff. Music is on point which contributes to its chilled out vibe. I highly recommend the smashed avocado and a try of the coffee blends. Is also dog friendly. WIN.

Great spot. The smoothest coffee I.ve ever had. Hmmm...good morning coffee. Love the giant group tables. Quiet in the early morns

Best Coffee in Town!!. Thought I'd come in & try Red Bean Cafe (on the urging of friends who'd been here prior) & I must say, I was more than pleasantly surprised!!! The coffee here is sensational (by far the best I've tasted this side of the Yarra) & the food is scrumptious to boot!! The staff are super friendly & make you feel instantly welcome. Got to speak to the owners Laura & Lou & their passion for coffee is infectious!! Truly lovely people!!
If there is one thing you should do if you're in the Preston (Plenty Rd) area, you should pop in to this place as you will be rewarded with great coffee, great food & great service.
Thank You to the staff at Red Bean Cafe for everything!!

John & Julie

One of the Best Coffee's I've had. I stopped over this place a few weeks ago on my way to work to get a take away coffee in the morning. I was surprised at how nice my coffee was so decided to go there this weekend to try the food.

Overall, I really enjoyed the the whole experience. It is a really relaxed place. I ordered the zucchini and corn fritter's and they were moreish. The coffee was great. My wife had the smashed avacodo with poached eggs and she really enjoyed it.

This is not a up market cafe, or pretentious, but a great laid back place to just enjoy a easy meal and a really great coffee.

I noticed when I came onto this site to post my review that someone said the coffee was really bad. I am not sure where that person was, because I could not fault the coffee. It was smooth and didn't have any bitterness that I experience with coffees in so many other cafes that I have had coffee from.

I will be back. It is a really nice relaxed place to visit, chill, meet someone for a coffee etc.
From what I saw, the place has a roasting area so they obviously roast their own coffee. They also sell their coffee, which I didn't think to buy on this visit.
Dan Da Man
Really bad coffee. I don't know how they did it, but my tastebuds were not up for a whole glass of scientific analysis. And strange, uncomfortable vibes from the staff. That said—the food isn't too bad.

Had a lovely breakfast here on Mother's Day. Loved my French toast, hubby loved the smashed avo. I sooo love they do decent kids meals BUT was extremely confused when both my kids meals (ordered from the kid menu) came out with quite a decent amount of pesto garnish all over the plate and black pepper.....no WAY my4y.o was going to cope with that.
We wiped it off as best we could & our 7y.o managed but then we saw a 2y.o's eggs get the same treatment. Wed all love our kids to love it but mostly what you want when out with kids is stuff they'll eat willingly. We got there but I think they shomd leave it off.

Edit: Decided to give this place another go. I genuinely don't understand how people like their coffee so much. Ordered a long macchiato, and a double espresso. Both tasted bitter, and of ash. The flavour of ash was hugely off putting and made sure we couldn't finish our drinks. Also bought some beans, which after brewing also tasted ashy. I don't want to think I'm drinking out of an ashtray every time I make a coffee. I didn't try the food, so no comment can be made. On the plus the staff were really nice. Would I go back? Probably not.

Take away the roasted coffee. My experiences in store have been pretty average. Person behind the counter seemed confused when I didn't order a standard coffee. Coffee came out very bitter - perhaps new staff? Decided to purchase some beans as they smelt good. Fairly reasonably priced for the quality.

Nice venue but service not always great. Venue. locate, ambience all good. Food - limited choice but good for a local cafe whose primary function is coffee roasting. Service lets it down - sometimes good, often not so good. Have stopped using this cafe as a local meeting point for catchup with friends and particularly meetings about local issues with neighbours and community groups because they now do not allow split bills. Understandable for a restaurant and dinner meals but less so for a local brunch and lunch spot - "computer system doesn't allow it"- why bring in such a system then. Several of us locals have stopped going there due to this and also service where orders forgotten or messed up.

After hearing about this place, I thought I'd try it today, ordered a big breky which consists of 2 eggs, mushrooms, bacon, and roasted tomatoes! We decided on fried eggs!
After a while the waitress came out and asked if we had ordered the fried eggs!
It took ages for it to arrive, and when it did, I found poached eggs instead!
We thought ok! And started to eat! Poached eggs were cold, bacon was lovely, mushrooms were also good! Whole roasted tomatoes with stem were nice, however, they should provide a steak knife to cut the stem and tomatoe, as when we cut into it, the juices just splattered all over us!
We went to pay our bill, and the person at the register (must of been the owner) was aware that we received the incorrect order and did not charge us for any of it! Glad to see good customer service in that regard! Will I go again? Not sure yet!

Nice coffee, lovely service but food a let down. My friend curses everytime he passes Red Bean after being served sad and dissapointing berryles 'berry pancakes 'once. My two experiences have been in contrast okay, nothing too exciting but nothing inedible either. Will give the cafe another go sometime soon.

Great coffee and food. Worth the drive from Templestowe for the coffee fix. their coffee makes me happy and pleases my palate. gluten free brownie is delish. I had a avo smashed with soft crumbled feta & pickled beetroots on sourdough. great recipe. I salute the guys back their working so hard to roast the coffee beans. I salute.

Having to be in the northern suburbs for business quite regularly, this place is an apparition! Consistently delightful coffee! Scrumptious food. I keep coming back again and again.

Red Bean Coffee is exactly what I look forward to on a Saturday morning. The coffee is impeccable, and the breakfast menu is consistently delicious :-) The team there are always friendly and patient, portraying the same vibe that their music selection does! A must try for the northern suburbs.

Only found this cafe recently but really liked it (so much so I brought family back the next day). Really good coffee, two specials on each day and both were excellent. Food is not as fancy as places further south on High Street like Little Henri but prices are much more reasonable. Staff were really friendly and very kind to my three year old. Outdoor space will be good for warmer weather, although we stayed in the indoor area as chilly morning.

Good points: friendly accommodating staff, great coffee, tres cool space, high chairs, change table, a small kids menu
Not so good points: You needed a steak knife to cut through the thick slices of sourdough, the butter knife didn't stand a chance (seems to be a pretty common issue at a lot of cafes these days and it may not sound like a big deal but by the time I got through the bread it had gotten all soggy with all the stuff piled on it), and unfortunately the food itself was pretty average.
I'd return for the coffee..

Menu isn't great as there is 8 things on the menu. The drinks menu is longer. Won't be coming back

Great Cafe. After a few teething problems, the cafe has become one of my favourites in the area.
The new food menu is small but very nice and the coffee is the best.
Staff are very accommodating and friendly and makes the experience that much better.

Sweet little cafe, quite spacious and welcoming staff. First visit so can't comment on consistency but the coffee was good, cafe quiet and yet vibrant. Wish they had a more exhaustive stuff with more savory vegetarian options.

Lovely local great coffee and service. Went with a group of mum's with babies and toddlers and they were really accommodating and even have us free cookies, immaculate baby change facilities.

Great addition to local area. Lovely place, friendly atmosphere, fantastic coffee and my waiter was very professional and took his time explaining the two different roasts that were on offer today. Shall definitely return. Well done guys!

We had brunch at Red Bean today, they were having kitchen issues. I have to say that the staff, particularly our waiter, were really lovely and professional about the situation. The coffee was fantastic, and the food (made sans chef) was quite good. In apology they gave us all our food and drinks on the house. Really impressed, and looking forward to going again.

Friendly service and great sunny courtyard - lots of space for a pram. Lovely to see more people investing in our neighbourhood. I am sure the menu will diversify with time but for the meantime there are plenty of side snacks to have with a coffee.
