Review Jackson Dodds - Preston

The place is marvellous. Apparently it was a cafe previously but a young chef purchased it and uplifted the venue. I will definitely go there again. Cup cakes were made by the chef and we tried one. Just perfect. Ambiance was warm and friendly. Staff were smiling, talkative and helpful. Go there ppl. You won’t be disappointed!…

Came here with the family for Easter brunch. The staff were wonderful and for a busy morning the service was pretty good, not waiting to looking for our drinks and food to be ordered then subsequently served. Portions were generous and everything was super tasty.

Tbh when I first came in here I balked at the price of the food. But it was 100% worth it. For $22 you don't just get an avo smash, you get something that has been skillfully crafted by the chefs to resemble fine dining food. Was thoroughly impressed. Will definitely be back. The decor is also absolutely stunning.

The best pancakes!!! My favourite pancake brunch spot. And they're consistent. I've been there three times so far over the last few months, with different people each time and everyone has loved them. The cafe is also beautifully decorated. All three of us were sure we had the best view until we looked from each others vantage points. (Mine was the true best.. According to me. 😆) Also the staff are friendly. It's an absolute winner.

Look, if you’re looking for a cute little brunch place to go to and absolutely have to stay in Preston, then Jackson Dodds is the place to be! The food portions are ginormous (but I’m also not a very big eater) and the prices are very standard for brunch (~$20). It will leave you in a massive food coma that will convince you that an afternoon nap is the next best thing for you, then the next thing you know it’s 9pm and you’ve lost your whole day. In any case, decor is super cute and you can tell they put a lot of effort into it so 5 stars for that, food range wise, they don’t exactly have a very unique menu and most options can be found at other brunch places.

Called in on Sunday 24th October 2021 spur of the moment with no booking, had no trouble getting a table for two. Service from the three staff we had contact with was fantastic. Ordered a B.L.A.T and added egg and cheese. Also a Boss Benny which has the best hash browns instead of toast. Mango smoothy was also great. Food and service fantastic. Will be back for sure, thank you all.

Happily surprised! Went here years ago and don’t remember thinking much of it. But wow, it has had a facelift!!! Menu wise and interior wise! The vibe inside is amazing; open, green and cool things hanging from the wall, kickass!! And most importantly, the food and coffee! Couldn’t fault it. Lovely work chefs! Overall, 5/5 ⭐️

Wow has this place come a long way since last year. Newly renovated with a fresh new fit out, new kitchen and new menu. The coffee is good, always has been. But the food has improved significantly. Today I enjoyed the Buddha bowl and it was great – very tasty, immaculately presented and a big filling portion. Will return to try more of the menu.

Can’t believe I haven’t visited this cafe earlier as it’s so lovely! The interior is so homely and love the addition of plants and greenery all around the cafe.

Started off with coffees, soy latte and cappuccino which were both delish. We were spoilt with choice on the menu that I could have ordered so many more dishes! We ended up selecting the halloumi stack with avocado and the French toast. Was pleasantly surprised by the presentation of the halloumi dish as the avocado was like a piece of art. The flavours were amazing and the halloumi was perfectly crispy. The french toast is a must order if you love a sweet and decadent dish. I could smell the cinnamon straight away and loved the nutella and berries on top!

Highly recommend checking this cafe out if your in the area or would like to try a new cafe with great food and service.

Pros: the salmon was cooked to perfection. Cooked well yet still very juicy and moist. The pumpkin puree that went with the salmon.. wow! Complemented very well. Portions are generous as seen in the photos for each dish. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.

Cons: the food did take a while to come but it may be because we came at a busy time!

Amazing food and staff 😊

This is my go-to place for brunch. Coffee is superb. Breakfast menu is not pretentious. Food is wonderful. Staff are friendly. Definitely a hidden gem!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay so the food looks incredible and is very grammable. The halloumi stack was amazing as was the baked eggs. The benny was just okay and lacked flavour but the hash browns were perfect. Overall the food was good but not great, however the price was very reasonable and definitely one of the best brunch spots in the area.

The coffee was too milky for me and the service was a little slow but very friendly.

If you’re in Preston then this place is defiantly worth a visit but not necessarily worth going out of your way to go to.

Coffee great, haloumi stack was delicious with really fresh pumpkin purée, seasoned avocado great, mushrooms on the side really nice. Big serves with lots of flavour. Unassuming corner shop with great staff that makes it even better.

In an unassuming cafe in the outer suburb of Preston is some of the best food and coffee that I have had recently. Jackson Dodds is cool from the get go with it's mural covered exterior wall, and it continues indoors with more funky colours and decor. It's not a large space, but it's relaxed and comfortable with a friendly atmosphere and a fun attitude.

The guys here are super friendly, and are more than happy to talk you through the menu or offer up suggestions. We couldn't go past the recommended banana latte, which was an unusual but tasty combination that was like a coffee infused banana smoothie. Their regular coffee was also fantastic.

The menu has some great options, and we decided upon the mushroom medley and the ricotta pancakes. The mushrooms was presented beautifully... the plate was like a work of art. With delicious mushrooms, toast, sweet potato puree, a fantastic pea pancake and a beautiful tuille to top it off. It almost seemed a shame to eat it, but we were glad we did as it tasted as good as it looked. The mushrooms were juicy, the puree perfectly sweet, and the poached eggs were just right.

The pancakes were a perfect stack of fluffy and flavoursome pancakes surrounded with fruit, crumble, a jug of syrup and icecream. Just heavenly, and a total joy to eat. The perfect combination of sticky sweet syrup and featherlight pancakes was a sweet tooths dream.

The guys at Jackson Dodds have got the winning formula to keep this cafe constantly busy. Visually appealing food that also tastes great, a friendly atmosphere and fabulous service keep the customers continually coming back for more, and now we understand why.

I wasn’t sure how to rate this place at first because first impressions count. From the outside it has a large colourful mural and outdoor seating with plastic chairs. Inside is pretty basic and nothing hipster about it at all.
We ordered a pot of tea each and shared pancakes. That’s when I discovered why this place has over 700 reviews and is rated so highly.
The pancakes looked superb. The swirl of coulee and fresh berries with dollop of creme was a mouth-watering site. Pancakes were light and fluffy s delicious.
Despite the cuppa tea being served in pots that looked like they come from an office canteen, it was nice and very hot.
Staff were lovely. Very friendly and quick to take our order.
Takeaway coffee available.
Only downside was as we were there later one the day, they’d started vacuuming while we were still seated and was hard to hear over the Dyson buzzing.
Note: wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking in Gilbert Street or in the side streets.
🥞🍴d e b i 🥄☕️

We dropped into this cafe because we were in the area and the Zomato rating was high and we were not disappointed.
The food was very well presented and yummy, the coffee was good and the venue had a good vibe to it.
The Mini Muncher!
I really enjoyed what I ate here. I had the Jack's Breakfast. One thing that I have to mention is there was no kids menu. I was accompanied 4 adults, and 3 other kids. Only half of that many kids finished thier meal. And even then, they were the oldest. The food was GREAT though. It was really delicious. The menu did have quite a variety, so I'm not too fussed that there was no kid menu.

Now this complaint may just be of how many people I came with, ( I was with 8 people) but it took a very long time for all our food to come. It took about 30 - 45 minutes. Honestly, it's probably just because I came with a lot of people.

For kid as young as me, ordering from the adult menu isn't like me. So I got way to much for me
I could have done with a kids menu, again, this is my only critique.
Overall I give this Cafe 3 stars.
Yours Truly,
Creamy Cruncher and Mini Muncher!

Came to Jackson Dodds, great service and great selection of food on the menu. I had the Halloumi Stack and it was amazing. Also coffee was great too.

I live around the corner from this place but have never checked it out until now. A busy little place but they’re so accommodating. The food is delicious though takes a while to come out.

Real rating 4.25 ⭐️

It was a nice sunny morning when we visited Jackson Dodd’s a couple of weeks back! Here’s what we thought of it!

Mushroom medley - served with two poached eggs, sweet potato purée, walnuts feta, mushy peas and wheat flour tuille on sourdough. The medley that I felt was a good one as the elements all worked together! The sweetness of the purée matched the saltiness of the mushrooms! The feta added a cheesy kick to it!

Haloumi stack - served with two poached eggs, fried haloumi, sweet potato purée and beetroot hummus! All I got to say is wow as the haloumi were fried to perfection! It was thick and melted into the mouth! The sweetness of the purée really matched the saltiness of the haloumi! The beetroot hummus was also a clever idea to add balance to the dish hence making it my favorite savory!

Ricotta hotcakes - blueberry hotcakes with ice cream, Canadian maple syrup, pistachio crumbs, seasonal fruits and berries! The hotcakes were as I had imagined! Thick, fluffy and moist which is all I could ever ask for! The maple syrup and ice cream were good additions to add sweetness to the hotcakes hence making my favorite sweet!

I would say that Jackson Dodds have delivered an excellent experience and we would love to go back to try their other dishes!

This is a small hipster cafe. The food and drinks were decent and nice. I had Super Grain for breakfast; A pretty healthy meal to start a day with, I believe. The prices were reasonable.

Excited by the menu but disappointed with the food. Ordered the calamari salad but the calamari was over cooked and left a bad taste in my mouth- seemed like the oil needed changing... partner ordered the eggs benny with beef brisket but didn’t want the hash brown. The beef brisket was dry and considering we left off the hash brown, it was a very small serving which was really disappointing. Service was good but not sure I’d go back. Pictures on Instagram looked better than what was served.

I keep coming back to this place!

I've always had really great service and the food is fresh, delicious and satisfying.

This time I got Jack's breakfast with salmon and a hashbrown (worth $3.50 for the size? Maybe not. Yummy though!).
Foodadventureswithliv
came here on the public holiday today for brunch and it went down well! it was super busy but we got a table straight away with friendly service as soon as we walked in!

we had the “great northern” which consisted of poached eggs in gf toast, bacon, spanish chorizo, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms & the other dish was the “seasoned avo” with poached eggs on gf bread, smashed avo and goat’s fetta with a lovely drizzle of balsamic! both presented beautifully and taste SO good

definitely a place to go on the list, really cute and heaps of food options! ill be back for more :)

I came here for breakfast with some friends and I had the seasoned avocado which was very nice and very well presented. The coffee was very nice aswell (which is a must for me). The menu has a good variety of choices to choose from. Would highly recommend this place! 👌🏻

Excellent service, food is amazing! We even had a free sample of fresh home made pumpkin gnocchi which was very good. Highly recommend will definitely return.

Jackson Dodds is my favourite brunch cafe in Preston. Pricing is reasonable, service is great and the food is generous and delicious. Staff are accommodating and have always been considerate of my nut allergy. Simply a good cafe culture. Jackson dodds will never disappoint :)

A great little local cafe. We have been here about half a dozen times now and the food and service never disappoint. The staff are friendly and always willing to accommodate. Would recommend.

Excellent polite and prompt staff very tasty food, lovely vibrant atmosphere and great coffee. The steak sandwich was cooked perfectly not chewy and actually not too heavy all up, loved it all!

Never a bad experience here; food, coffee and service are great & jacks breakfast is definitely a winner! Favourite cafe in the area, will definitely be back
Jo
Visited for a brunch date with a girlfriend, the ricotta hot cakes were delicious, so fluffy! My friend had the Mr&Mrs Benedict, the meals were big and satisfying, I even had two lattes, I’m not a big coffee drinker -they’re usually bitter- but these were perfect! I didn’t need to add sugar. Will definitely be back.

We walked in expecting it to be a great experience because of the Zomato ratings... to find a messy cafe, underwhelming and cold service from the waitress, we had coffees and no one paid attention to the customers. It seemed like they were more worried about getting people in and out as quick as possible. We walked out half an hour later because no one took ok our food order and went down the road to another cafe... sorry guys but you need to pick up your game, it was far from a pleasant experience.

Always delicious, we love the ever changing specials menu which means you’ll never be bored. We had the haloumi stack and jacks breakfast. Both were delicious. Overall great atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent quality breakfast.

I’ve always been impressed with the food here, though it’s hard to recommend any particular dish because the menu changes over time.

On my last visit, I had the ‘Buddah Bowl’, which was very impressive. It was simple, but delicious. It’s the same sort of ‘Poke Bowl’ variation you can get from other cafes nowadays due to its popularity, but it has been done very well.

Also, the desserts here are amazing.
4.5
Indeed a local gem. Generous portion, restaurant quality tasty dish well priced served by friendly staff. A beautiful salmon sitting on top smooth parsnip purée accompanied by kipflers dressed with blackcurrant sauce balances with some greens. My coffee was decent instead of great but that may be personal. Highly recommended.

We had breakfast here yesterday and enjoyed it so much we came back today. Bombay eggs and shakshuka were my two selections. Both were awesome. If I had to choose, it would be the Bombay eggs. Coffee is first rate too.
Vegetarian Food Lover
Jackson Dodds is a small cafe & popular with the locals. I ordered the super grain eggs & although the serving was generous with lots of ingredients, the dish still tasted bland. I felt like the dish needed some balsamic vinegar or sauce to lift the ingredients. Service was friendly & fast.
Wine And Food Lovers
Coffee on point... delicious!
This is such a funky little cafe in preston, the coffee is so good.
Didnt get a chance to sample the food this morning but the mamas meatballs sound like they would be worth the trip back.
Decor is bright & colourful, outdoor area looked very inviting even on a cold morning.
Steph
A very unique styled cafe that gives off a very local and relaxing vibe.
Prices are great for what you get! Only 50 cents extra for almond or soy milk and $3.50 for a standard hot chocolate - great value!
Both drinks, latte and almond milk hot chocolate were very nice.

We ordered the great northern with scrambled eggs and poached eggs on toast with a side of avo.
The great northern was very generous with the amount of items included. The poached eggs were perfectly poached and runny and the side of avo was very generous and super fresh.

Simple things done right and friendly staff. Worth the visit if you’re in the area😊

Food is Absolutely delish, friendly and good environment to go with friends & Family. Staff is absolutely a Gem, works professionally and very helpful. Loved the Pancakes & fritters were so good.

Josephine
What a homie but rustic looking cafe. Very welcoming upon arrival and was seated straight away by staff. Food was delicious! I had the special smoked salmon hash and boy was it massive. It looked like a whole potato! I literally turned into a potato afterwards but it was so worth it! My partner had the shakshuka which he loved. He liked the Mexican flare to it and the additional halloumi cheese. The little one had the ricotta blue berry hot cakes and he scoffed it down the hatch. Coffee was good. They did forget or somehow lost our smoothie but were very prompt and made us one straight away. Quite like this place. Will definetly visit again.

No wheelchair access indoors. Moderate outdoor seating that is accessible. No accessible bathrooms.

Table service.

We came on a public holiday purely because they had clear online posts saying that they'll be open. No booking needed and we didn't have to wait.

Good variety on the menu. We love an all day breakfast!

Food was great. Staff were nice. Great feel!

Jacksons has really upped its game. Been going here since it opened and the current menu is awesome. Generous portions, delicious food and nice staff. Can't go wrong. 'Jack's breakfast' always puts a smile on my face with the thick slabs of halloumi and crispy bacon. Yum.

Jackson dodds at Preston/reservoir area. Nice and friendly staff with good service. Coffee was good but the breakfast was a bit average. Steak was nice and tender.

I finally made it here and i really liked it. The place is very friendly with an open space kind of setting - the kitchen is right there so you can pretty much see everything. The menu had a lot of scrumptious sounding food so it was hard to pick. What i got (super grain) was really nice. Toilets out the back in someone elses's backyard i think. The only disappointment was that the food took a while to come out.
Nikki
Upon entering it wasn’t what I had pegged for the name, no idea why but I invisioned it as extremely industrial with internal graffiti , instead it was really humble and normal in appearance, not pretentious and extremely friendly and helpful waitstaff. The food was great I had the super grain salad with poached eggs and a side of bacon and avocado as I was indecisive. Presented beautifully and you could over hear really passionate chefs in kitchen about perfecting food which is nice. Would recommend but not to people who need to be in best street of Northcote for yuppy breakfast more to people who love quality food without the fuss!
Simmyeats.Melb
Stopped in for a coffee while I was in the area. Nice little cafe, lots of people inside enjoying their brunch. My latte was perfect, nice full strength with a lovely aftertaste. The barista was friendly too, this place had a really good vibe.
Beccy's Adventures
For a busy Sunday morning the service was extremely efficient. We had our meals within 10 minutes of sitting down. I had the açai bowl and it was superb. Perfect balance of the berry purée along with the fresh fruit and granola. You cannot go wrong with banana, strawberries, kiwi fruit and raspberries/blueberries. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area.
Julieanne.trinh
As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted and seated on a small table for 4. Soon after the waitress came over to ask if we wanted coffee or drinks to start off with, I ordered the iced soy latte and was expecting something in a tall glass with icecream but it turned out to be just a latte wish a block of ice in it, although it wasn’t amazing I still wasn’t too disappointed. A little after we ordered our food, I had the eggs Benedict and it was hands down the best eggs Benedict I’ve had in a long time. Would definitely recommend for anyone who are wanting to grab a gourmet delicious brunch to come by.

Delicious porridge to start the day! I loved the crunchy texture of the nuts combined with fresh berries and honey. Nice and filling. The manager and staff were so welcoming and attentive and let us stay long after we'd finished our meals.
Majingi
The coffee was pretty good and the staff were very friendly. But the food was pretty average, almost disappointing especially after seeing so many reviews raving about the food. I got pancakes and they were one of those thicker ones that's quite popular nowadays but it was too doughy and almost felt like it wasn't cooked all the way. I'm more than happy to come back for a quick coffee but food was disappointing.

Have been meaning to come here for brunch but never had the opportunity. So xmas eve come and I was too lazy to cook breakfast so here we went! Lucky i made a booking as when we got there at around 11.30, there were quite a lot of people who had the same idea we had ahaha!

First impression, very ladiback withh a rustic look. Few tables inside and outside. Open coffee counter so can look very busy. Service ordering was efficient and friendly. Always great to see smiles all round. Not much pastry on display. Foods did they a lil longer.

I wanted something light so went with the cheesy avocado toasty. This was good, slightly burnt so toast was extra crispy on tbe edges though so had to throw those bits again as was tpo hard to eat.

Hubby went with the Atlantic eggs which was good also. Poached eggs was cooked well.

Coffee smelt delicious and had a good hit. My chai latte had great spices but way tooo sweet unfortunately.

So overall good brunch. Small side street but i can imaging parking can be a nightmare, lucky we found an opening instantly! Prices are good.

Great service and food here at J Dodds!! Really enjoyed my ‘seasoned avo’ which was almost like a bruschetta. Lots of delicious items on the menu!
Coffee was a let down .. barista should buy ‘barista blend almond milk’ to avoid the milk going all flakey
Other than that, cafe owner was really friendly and cafe was really nice :)
Antonella
Funny and friendly owner and the staff were super quick with each of our orders.
The coffee was quickly gone as it was so good.
The food was amazing!
They have your popular every day brunch meals with their own flavoured twist and get it right.
Also the place is super cute and unique with lots of little cute and different things to spot.
Andranik Kazaryan
Consistently good food, decent portion sizes, fast and friendly service. A bit pricier than usual but worth the treat. Decor is pretty groovy aswell. Will continue to come back

Diverse menu with high quality food and value for money. Delicious foods with amazing customer service conveniently located with ample parking and public transport access. Highly recommended!

Looking at the restaurant from the outside was underwhelming. I would have not given this place a second look. The open kitchen and café was a bit different from other brunch joints. However, this dive had really good vibes with their positive slogans on the walls. Sitting down was a bit tight however the staff was so friendly and attentive it felt more cozy than anything. I had the eggs benedict and my partner had the shakshuka. My eggs Benny was beautiful, delicious and rich. The eggs were perfectly runny and the hollandaise sauce was rich which complimented the pull pork. The shakshuka had three generous and perfectly grilled bread. The tomato base sauce added acidic notes with just the right amount of spice which works well with the eggs poached in the suace. The chorizo was grilled with on the flat top creating that nice texture. And how could you go wrong with Halloumi? The eggs were a little over cooked. I would have like it to be a bit more runny. Overall, this is a great little unassuming dive tucked away in the corner of the Preston. I would go back and I would most certainly recommend it to anyone.

I visited Jackson Dodds a little while ago and i was pleasantly surprised by the excellent level of customer service and food.

I had ordered the Salted Caramel Pancakes whilst my friend ordered a veggie breakfast, which we both LOVED.

I managed to be super forgetful and left my car keys on our table when we left, but a waiter actually ran out on to the road with them to return to me (he actually looked so worried at my lack of adulting ability) which I thought was sooo nice!

Great experience and I will definitely be going again!!!

Extremely impressed. Lunch at Jackson Dodd was the best meal I've had on this one week long business trip in Melbourne.

I had the Super Grain Eggs and could not fault it one bit. The dish was visually stunning. They spared no effort nor ingredients on this dish and the $21.50 I paid including avocados was worth every penny. The eggs were decent sized and perfectly poached. The 2 slices of sourdough were toasted very well. The mix of quinoa, pomegranate, kale, corn, asparagus, and broccolini complimented everything nicely. It was a fairly big meal and should keep you satisfied for a good number of hours.

It's nice to see a place doing everything right and not just focusing on the profit margins. Many places will easily charge the same price for 2/3 or even 1/2 of the food on this dish and not of the same quality.

Big thumbs up. High recommended for a visit whether it's breakfast, brunch, or lunch.

Great little brekky spot. Had the great northern breakfast and couldn’t fault it. Coffee was on point and they use bonsoy which I really appreciate!

I came for the Shakshuka, it delivered. What a breakfast! I've driven past this place plenty and really happy we finally gave it a try, a solid contributor.

From the minute we walked in, we were greeted with friendly smiles. Staff were casual, calm and relaxed, yet fast and efficient. Just what you want! So many delicious items to choose from, we found it difficult to pick one as they all sounded good. We were pleased with our choice ...Meredith fetta scrambled eggs and the northern breakfast which seemed to have every sort of breakfast related meat and vegetable. We were also very surprised at the generous serving for a very decent price. My photos don't do the meals justice. This is a lovely cafe, with delicious mild roast, creamy, well made coffees.
Erica Roccioletti
Yum!! This place is definitely underrated. The coffee was great & my smashed avo was delicious. Service was fantastic, really friendly and fast! Serving sizes were also surprisingly really big - my partner & I were so full and the menu had quite a large variety. The only thing I could say was the decor was slightly lacking. Although it has a rustic feel which was cool, it was quite dated and you could see the kitchen area from the tables! Otherwise, great brunch spot & would recommend for a quick & tasty brunch!

Had breakfast here about 2 weeks ago. Nice little trendy spot. Generous servings and good coffee. Waitress was very nice and accommodating especially with a roaming toddler. Cant wait to go again

Food & Service: Located on a quiet street of Preston, this place is hard to miss. All the dishes were masterfully prepared and immaculately presented. Egg Benedict was a winner for us. The service takes it to the next level. Don't we all love when our food is served with a smile on the top.
Look & Feel: The decor is casual yet comfort. This place is not too big but still manages to accommodate quite a lot of tables.
Gotham
Unassuming, laid back, tasty food that tasted clean and flavourful. We split the corn pomegranate egg thing with some added avo and salmon, followed by the porridge. Both a tick. Coffee was fine (not to die for, but wouldn't stop you coming back and to1/2 had a second). Sat next to a "free parenter" (ie let their kid run rampant throughout the place without feeling any need to modify their behaviour) who topped it off by doing the buttinski with us at the register, but hey - entitled rude people are everywhere! Importantly, the actual place was good o.

Second time in 2 weeks !
The food is beautiful, fresh, tasty, and will leave you wanting to come back for more
Good spot on Gilbert road ! Parking and close to home
Keep up the good work
Will be back again for sure

The food was great, went in around 8:30 on a Sunday with a few friends and had timely service with good coffee. Recommend the eggs benedict.
Cocktails&Chocolate
The food here was fantastic. I had the Jack's breakfast which had no shortage of halloumi 😋 however, the service was lacking - we waited for a friend and were asked three times during that time if we were ready to order. A big issue I had was that it seemed to be overcrowded when we went - we were sitting next to a table with a pram that had to be put in an awkward spot because the tables were so close together, and people were constantly bumping into our table and my friend as a consequence.
True local cafe. Great menu, and best value for price around. Owner and staff always provide amazing service. True great all round always worth the return patronage
Mr. Food
Visited this stylish and cosy cornerstore for brunch today and I was very impressed!! The staff members were great, their menu is very simplified and easy to understand and their service is quick. I ordered the 'Great Northern' (a satisfying breakfast selection) and a fresh orange juice.
Let me just say, everything was superb! The flavors that hit my tastebuds put me in absolute contentment!! The portion size for the price listed is also extremely reasonable. This place is a gem in the northern suburbs and deserves the outstanding attention it receives.

This plqce is awesome!! Service was amazing! Food came really quickly was was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend the seasoned avocadon!!!! :)

When your struggling into a cafe with a pram and the staff help you and move tables to make sure your comfortable, you kind of want to hug them. I've been in countless Melbourne cafes that all but roll their eyes when I crash through their doors sleep deprived and hungry with a baby that will probably mess their floors. But this place is nothing like that! And the food - Oh. My. Breakfast. I've never had a breakfast like I just devoured. It had brocollini, asparagus, kale, feta, corn and wild rice... poached eggs stacked on top and a side of crispy bacon. Pomegranate was sprinkled on top with seeds and other amazing crunchy things. Breakfast is my fav meal of the day and this was a breakfast I will obsess over for the next few months. The coffee was also good!
Queen Of Food
Had breakfast here the other day and thought the food was great! Nice well balanced meals that were seasoned well and good portion sizes. Service could be a little bit better but overall a nice local breakfast spot.
Snoopy
Friendly staff, cozy cafe.

Pancake was soft and fluffy, mix well with the berries and nuts, so kind of the staff (I think is the owner) to offer if sauce top up required.

Pea and sweat potato fritter, very mushy texture, maybe because of that make you feel full quicker, nice flavour.
Savannah Yee
Was only in Melbourne for a short period (from brissy) and my partner & I came back both days we enjoyed the food so much! Will definitely come back when we return to Melbourne!!
FoodingAroundMelbourne
Came here because it was ranked Melbourne's best breakfast spots. Food was hearty and filling. We sat outside which was nice as the walls were painted with graffiti. Dont know about the best breakfast in Melbourne though.
Jeffrey Xie
Overall
Service was slow.
Food is mediocre. Certainly does not deserve the 4+ rating.

Pea & halloumi fritters:
The pea and halloumi didn't hold together well as a fritter. Halloumi flavour was lost in there.

Ricotta pancake:
Where as ricotta makes up 50% of the name of this dish, I couldn't quite say the same for the actual dish.

Updated Review
A local and still a fantastic service and food. We ordered the Jacks breakfast poached eggs with grilled haloumi, spinach and avo, Great Northern with bacon, mushroom and the most delicious chorizo Shakshuka baked with chorizo and haloumi and the Salmon Benedict.

Every meal cooked and served was to perfection. All brunch meals were very generous so we all happily rolled home afterwards.

The owner / manager interacted with all the customers and was not only genuinely friendly but funny too.

Highly recommend if you are in the area!

***

Local cafe in Northern Area that we quite often pop out for brekky or brunch.

Seasoned Avocado being one of our favourite dishes alongside a hot chocolate or latte of course. Coffees are great!!

Have also indulged in other brekky dishes Jacks Breakfast as well as pancakes.

Service is always great, owner personalises the experience by chatting to his customers with a friendly manner.

Highly recommend this place, we quite often revisit on a regular basis.

Split The Bill

You will definitely enjoy a talk with the owner and the sweet barista who makes the best coffee in the neighbourhood. Do stop by and grab yourself a coffee from them and you will never regret it!!!

Grabbing my first Australian breakfast at Jackson Dodds, conveniently located right by West Preston tram stop. It’s a nice little cafe, very similar to ones back here in London. I already knew the Aussies are big on their sourdough avocado toast I just went for the Jacks breakfast $17 and adding a tea since I don’t drink coffee. Jackson Dodds café is quite small with very few tables. You may find yourself sitting with strangers on the long tables. My breakfast didn’t disappoint all of the favourite things all on one plate, grilled halloumi cheese, sliced avocados spinach, and two poached eggs. Everything tasted fantastic, fresh, great crunch on the sourdough toast. It’s such a healthy nutritious breakfast that I didn’t even have to eat lunch.

Everything from the atmosphere to the food was phenomenal. The service was great and I would say, hands down this was one of the best food experiences I've ever had, thank you.

I adore this cafe, I have vistited several times and it has never dissapointed. The good is fantastic and the coffee is even better. The only reason I didn't rate a 5 is just because of the size of the place its a little squishy.

We had Sunday morning breakfast here, the Sausage omelette and Jacks Special with bacon...along with a couple of lattes.
Service was a little slow and inattentive, and orders took quite some time to arrive, but the meals were really very good..great quality and plentiful sizes..and something different from the norm.
Over the course of 6 months - 1 year I was always stopping here every morning for a coffee without fail as the coffee itself was always above par, but never consider eating there. Until one weekend I decided to pop by and grab a late breakfast, what a decision that was! I originally started ordering the smashed avocado as is and over the course of my many visits stated adding extra additions to it. The smashed avocado was always a solid 10/10, I could never fault them to the point where I made it a weekend routine! The food is amazing, the service is beyond a gold standard, the staff are ALWAYS lovely, just the cafe in general is a must visit!

Jackson Dodds is my number 1 brunch stop.
I can always count on them for producing great coffee, scrumptious dishes, large portion sizes and all at an affordable price... What's more to love?
I highly recommend heading down to Preston -Jackson Dodds, you will be warmly greeted of by all of the lovely staff.

Well we went to try out a new cafe for brunch and came upon Jackson Dodds. The reviews on Zomato impressed us, so we decided to give it a try. We tried the Eggs Benedict with pulled pork, The great northern, Pancakes with blueberry, orange and ricotta. Me and my partner love chorizo and we ordered extra with the Benedict, which was the disappointing part. The hollandaise was good, the great northern breakfast didnt have any WoW factor. The pancakes were just average as well.

I went to this place with a couple of friends the Saturday that just passed.

The service I have to say has to be the best I've ever come across. The man which I'm guessing was the owner is just a delight, his dry humour was above and beyond. I would like to thank him personally for such a great brunch.

I ordered the pea and halloumi fritters and they were fantastic, great chilli accompaniment to the fritters. Most of my friends got the spiced avocado and BLT, which they all said was delectable and out of this world.

Coffee was great also.

I surely will be coming back for more. 😊

Went here for breakfast on the weekend. Nice little cafe, fairly basic setup. The coffee was good. Meals were large and delicious! Will definitely be back!

A great place for breaky, love the outside area and sitting in the sun. Brilliant coffee and the poached eggs were just perfect. Very quick service.

Best breaky I've had in a long time! Very friendly staff and great coffee! Stumbled across it on my way to work and I will definitely be returning!

Been going here since it opened and it has never disappointed. Food is always delicious, especially the curried chillie eggs, and offers excellent value as the servings are huge. You can be guaranteed service with a smile here too which is why I always come back. The vibe is relaxed and I never feel hassled to leave. Just a great local cafe. Keep up the great work guys!

Found this place by fluke on Zomato.
Had the seasoned avocado. It was fab! It was like a delicious breakfast bruschetta.
Coffee was also fab accompanied by delightful customer service. Highly recommended for breakie!

Went here because of the really high rating bit I think this set our expectations too high. Sure it's a nice little cafe with great, friendly service but honestly the food was just kinda standard... Not bad but not excellent either.

Came here early on a Sunday morning with the family to check it out after seeing such good reviews...

Were not disappointed!

As soon as we walked in the staff were ready for us, had us seated, offered the kids something to entertain and menus on the go, all the while taking our coffee order. This is very very important to me that people take their coffee serious :)

I wake up around 5am excited to have my first coffee for the day, which I make myself on a home espresso kit. And I want to know someone with a multi thousand dollar kit is going to rock my world with love for the greatest drink in the known universe.

I got the curried eggs, kids got the pancakes, the French toast (with bacon as a side)...all came out and looked like they have been dreamt up with love...plenty of colour, and all items having a clear place in the plate.

The serving was large and I ate way more than I thought I could, and there was still a bit left on the plate. Same goes for the kids, and I love it that one of the staff came over and just enquires that it was all ok with a hint of sadness because they thought that not finishing it all is a sign it may not be good enough...what a laugh, the serving was huge.. and delicious and I love their attention to the customer.

Highly recommend this place...there is no pretense here, just a rock solid service for the customer.

Took my parents here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Wasn't too crowded and service was fast . I had the JD's Beef Burger which was really filling and tasted great. My dad had the Pork Bun and enjoyed it and my mum had Poached Eggs on Toast which were simple but tasty. I would recommend giving this place a try!

Just my favourite local cafe. Never disappointed. Both the prawn salad and mushies on sourdough toast are great new dishes. Yuuuuuuum. Service was attentive as always.

Compare to most of the franchise coffee shop industry that we have been, this coffee shop is much delicious. We ordered the baked eggs and seasonal avocado. They are yummy and well seasoned. But the coffee would have to improve, it's taste too week and milky. The service was not too bad as well.

JDs is my fave breakfast stop in the north. It's consistency and relaxed vibe make this place standout for me. The coffee is excellent too!

This mornings breakfast stack at Jackson Dodds is potentially the best breakfast dish I've ever had!!! Mounds of delicious melt in your mouth sweet potato and carrot cakes topped with smashed avo, fresh spinach, loads of smoked salmon with perfectly cooked poached eggs and hollandaise sauce!! This cafe is always a winner with generous servings incredibly reasonable prices and quality food and coffee. They've really outdone themselves with this breakfast special though, this will be the breakfast that all future breakfasts will have to live up to! !! Can't recommend Jackson dodds highly enough!!!
