Review Maharaja Tandoori Cuisine - Preston

I love the design of train experience room, it made you feel you were eating on the train that’s cool ! Fancy and relaxing restaurant to having a date.😊 Food was so amazing, much clear flavor than other restaurant. Chili is really spicy, rice with coconut is so tasty. Garlic nan is crispy and yummy! 5 stars deserved 👍

Great food! We had a couple of different dishes to try out and they were all delicious! A bit spicy but that was to be expected. I’ll definitely one back!

Excellent atmosphere and very rich in detail for elegance & beautiful table setting with friendly staff. Food was wonderful 🍛🍲The menu is expansive and offers a wide variety of vegetarian options. We tried panner lababdaar, paneer tikka masala and one of the vegetable cutlets followed by paratha 🫓 and garlic naans. They have an extensive range of whisky and cocktails 🍹 to explore 🎭😎. Everything was excellent and the service was also top-notch! Thank you so much 😊 .

We ordered Nihari, chicken 65 and Fish. Nihari - if you have ever had Nihari, you can see the second photo and tell it is not Nihari. It was tandoori lamb cutlets in some sauce:( Chicken 65 - I give 2 strat out of 5..may be an attempt to make chicken 65 but not even close. as seen in first photo, it was very dry... Fish - too much batter on Fish, so could only taste that... Overall bad experience:(

Firstly Ambiance was good and friendly customer service and food was excellent. I recommend this restaurant and will be back soon 🔜. Good place to hangout with friends and family.

Friendly staff + Tasty food. We went for dinner on 26/12/21 I am personally not a fan of too much oily and buttery food. We ordered Paneer tikka masala with Dahl and butter naan. Both the curries had more oil then I expected and there was too much butter on the naan. Undoubtedly food tasted good but as I said..

Food here is delicious.. very Spicy for Western tastebuds so.. unless you know, know you like your food hot and spicy right off the bat... then you need to ask foredium or mild.. I had my Aloo Gabhi, mild and it was still spicy for my friend and she loves spicy food, was like.. yip!! That's still warm.. she said, medium was spicy enough.. so, just heads up.. Apart from that.. We had a share plate of garlic naan, butter chicken, Aloo Gabhi and mint sauce. All our food was a delightful, very tasty. The lady at the front desk was a hoot!! Between her severing and answering calls, chatting with people coming and going, she still took the time to have a chat with us and even a laugh... we where a big party of 4 and we had a lovely evening! Will be back..

Excellent experience, fabulous service, staff was very polite and caring; food was the terrific, wonderful ambiance.

The Maharaja would have to be one of the best, if not the best, Indian restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of eating at. It is a Vegetarian's dream. The Palak Paneer and Malai Kofta are second to none, and so very well priced

As always food and Service both r excellent. Thanks to Kavish and Sukhi to look after us all the time. Any request or late booking are always accomodate. I tried so many Indian Restaurant but I find my taste and food at its best at Maharaja. 👍👍👍

Landed yesterday only from India & My Brother straight away took us to this restaurant for dinner ... The food was really delicious & The chicken biryani was the tastiest ...
Baljinder Dhillon
I ordered some takeaway yesterday which 4 paratha 2 of potatoes and 2 of cauliflower and they are cooked on tava and both were uncooked and their were no any tastes in it and sides were burn and u can smell of it and it's best avoid from this place and won't go back this and unqualified cook who actually can't see it that it's cooked or not.

Yummy food and awesome ambience. Celebrated our baby shower event here. Loved the service and decoration. Will definitely visit again.

I have tried most of the best restaurants in Melbourne but Maharaja is standalone as you don't get ambience, professional service and aroma of spices together at the same Place.
Simone
The best tarka dhal in the north. Always good service.

Flavour Flavour Flavour: First time customer in the home delivery lottery and what a pleasant surprise. All the curries were flavoursome and stood out on their own merits. Rice was perfect. Samosas plump and tasty. Some of the best Indian food we have eaten in some time. Will definitely order again. Thank you.

Great food and exceptional services.
Stephanie Jade
I was very impressed with the quality of the food and high level of service! I absolutely loved the train room however you do need to book for that room so just keep it in mind. The food was delicious and flavoursome I’ll definitely be back here! 👍🏻

Being indian, I generally critique Indian food pretty hard, and hence the rating from my end. The samosas were a big let down snd the filling did not taste fresh at all. Curries were ok and breads/naan were good.
I wouldn’t go there often though.
Hannah
Best Indian restaurant in Melbourne and good for small functions. Friendly staff and great decor. Yummy aloo tiki, daal makhani and veg noodles
Einnah
The place was really good, the service is fast. However, I find the food quantity was less, the price was overpriced too. It did not met our expectation, it was our first time to eat as a family due to recommendation of a friend but we honestly regretted dining there as we expect better food quality, quantity, price wise and accuracy of food. We ordered 3 dishes ( chicken tandoori, shahi paneer and chicken madras ) we ask for spicy chicken madras like literally spicy we told them if they can make it 8. To our dismay it was not even spicy at all rate would be 3/10. The tandoori chicken I would rate it 5/10. Lastly, shahi paneer it was my favourite dish so everytime we dine in a indian restaurant it’s my signature order along with the tandoori chicken. Which means I have tasted most of the shahi paneer in most Indian restaurant in our area I would rate it 5.5/10. Ask me if I would recommend this restaurant?! Definitely, not! Overprice and food is not good at all! Sorry but just an honest opinion and review.

Favourite takeaway Indian food in the north. Great relaxed space to dine in aswell. Friendliest staff going round. Favourites are the butter chicken and malai kofta. There banquets both takeaway and dine in are extremely well priced aswell and are a super tasty mix of their popular dishes!

I have done my son 2nd birthday party in this restaurant last saturday on 9th march .. all the guest has enjoyed the party and gave me feedback in positive . food is great . wait staff is friendly ,good and great hospitality by owner kavisk and sukhi and maharaja team is so good for everything what i asked them they said yes for everything even the price and food . they have reached my expectation . this people try to reach beyond your expectation . for sure they will reach any ones exception . This place is worth paying for the money what they ask .. we cant find such a good place any where in northside. Good ambience and party place for family with kids zone ..they have different sections inside the restaurant for dine .. definitely i will go again again . i would recommend this to all the people to visit ..

sukumar reddy

Really delicious authentic Indian food and the staff are really friendly. There is a vast menu with a great range of Vegetarian options. The price is reasonable but for those of you who are scared of spice this might not be the place for you!
Heyyyyy
My partner and I come here all the time and we absolutely love the food, it’s hard to find a good Indian restaurant but we come back here time and time again and won’t go anywhere else and bring anyone that eats Indian and they’ve all love it, service is also quick, must try if you love Indian :)
Jeremy Bean-Hodges
Don't be put off by the quasi-hallucinogenic decor; it's part of the charm and the food is an awful lot better than the fitout might promise.

I went for home delivery. The Butter Chicken (boring choice, I know) was full of flavour and generously portioned, even in a regular size portion (supersize options are available for takeaway). Similarly for the garlic naan - which perhaps could have done with tiny bit more char on it, but it's a very minor complaint.

If you are ordering delivery, *do* go through the restaurant's website rather than one of the delivery companies. Delivery was fast and only cost an extra $4, though a $30 minimum was enforced.
Shashank Vellaturi
It is hard to find Indian Restaurants that provide food that actually reach our expectations. But when it comes to Maharaja, without a doubt, they do it with the best ingredients. Not just the food, but also the ambience is unique. Cheers team.👍🏻
Hannah & Meilisa
Delicious Indian food and friendly staff. The interior is somewhat dated but the food and service makes up for this in droves. We had the maharaja chicken, lamb bhuna and garlic naan. All had just the right amount of spices/flavour. Would recommend :)
Gurman
Food was good...like the concept but the only reason for average rating was the portion size.
They should increase the portion size and there will be no complaints from my side.

SimZor
First time trying and gotta say one of the best Indian I’ve had. Ordered the banquet with 2 entrees, 3 mains, rice, naan and dessert for $31 (min 2 persons). One staff member was very keen to remove the plates before we finished eating, hence the 4 star rating.
ScoutyPie
Veg korma and garlic naan is heaven. Packed with flavour. This place is always a sure bet when you feel like rich and slow cooked curries. In terms of service, the staff are nice staff and there is an adorable train carriage set up inside.
Niki
This is now my favourite curry place in the area. I love all the vegetarian mains and the fish curry is fantastic. I prefer the train carriage seating area. The staff are really friendly and attentive. I can recommend this place highly.
YesNoMelbourne
I usually have a hard time finding a place with a great tasting curry and great naan
I finally found a place close to home that does now
The curry had so much flavour
And the cheese naan omg it was probably the best I’ve ever had

The interior of this place is amazing also

Would definitely recommend
BB
Did our very first takeaway..best ever Indian food in Melbourne.was authentic and tasted “indian” way..not Indian-Caucasian way..definitely recommend to others..
Jerry P. MacMillan.
Iconic Indian restaurant in Preston. Has been providing good quality fresh Indian cuisine for years. All dishes are prepared with care and it shows through the customer service and knowledge of the staff.
Recommend the naan bread excellent best in Melbourne.
The restaurant is cosy and has atmosphere, takes back to India.
Give it a go ,great value and love the Indian Kingfisher beers.

I came here with my partner and some friends on a Saturday night. We were seated inside the train which was super cool.
Food was ordered and served in an timely manner, and was excellent. Staff were super helpful when ordering vegan food and able to quickly suggest vegan options.

Definitely coming back ☺️

My favourite is the Lamb Kebabs, which I have had many times. I tried the beef biryani, which I regret, as it was oily wet and the beef tasted like boiled beef. I paid for my meal and decided then to add a comment about the biryani being poorly cooked to which the management staff said that's how it's cooked! I won't go back there again. Very dissapointing meal and attitude. It might suit customers that don't know how to cook biryani's but I do.
Good Food
Best Indian food in northern suburbs.. The Tandoori is very good and love there mango lassi. Decent portion.. Lovely ambience.. They have party hall aswell.
Mary Gazzola
Always a very tasty meal. Samoas and lamb cutlets for entree are my favourites. Friendly service and always willing to make sure everything is just right. Have been here many times and great value for money.
Taimor H
Our regular for Indian takeaway. Proper spice in their food. And as they have lots of Indian customers makes sense they are boot cooking just for an Anglo pallet. We've been back at least half a dozen times
Tiffany
This is just down the road from my place and it's such a high quality Indian place it's insane. They did go through a period of skimping on the meat and having dishes with mainly sauce and hardly any meat, but they got better after I'm assuming bad feedback and loss of customers. Food is always so delicious. Indian people we know also love and recommend it, so that's a major plus in my books!
The Gastronaut
One of the icons of Indian cuisine. They are very close to being authentic. They do parties very well. Menu looks different from other Indian restaurants. Never fail to surprise.
Lian Ai
Nice food. You know it's authentic when there are a lot of Indian customers. Impressively large spacious venue and interesting interior design.
Andy Loves Food
The food quality needs to improve. It's not just about making food rich and tasty but also making it healthy. Please use less oil and food colouring, currently its bit too much.
Abbas Merchant
I don't go to many but I reckon it's the best Indian place I've been to. Really nice food and the decor is bang on. Really good staff and lots of options on the menu. The Mango Lassi was absolutely fantastic and I'd highly recommend the Aloo Tikki too. Their signature dish, Cream Chicken, was really nice and the garlic naan and jeera rice was really nicely made too. Everything was very reasonably priced too.

Would definitely recommend for someone wanting Indian.

Took my teenage boys here last night. For a Friday night the dining room/s was pretty quiet. We were seated in the makeshift train dining room. And our order was taken by a server dressed as a train conductor! Food was delicious. We ordered the butter chicken, beef korma, garlic naan, cocunut rice, samosas and onion balls (not correct name). Everything was as expected. Very good! The onion balls I found to be a bit heavy as they were fried. I found the ambience a little lacking in atmosphere maybe because there was a lot of empty space and the staff looked bored. But as far as good indian food, this was top notch!
Margaret
Fantastic authentic Indian food! Highly recommended.

Order online & have your Indian dinner delivered to your doorstep or dine in. Food is absolutely delicious & succulent. Waiting staff are attentive. It was lovely hearing music from the ball room as a party was being held at Maharaja. It added more to the dining experience & I can say that I am very pleased in terms of food quality, service & pricing.
Sarthak Midha
it is the best restaurant serving indian cuisine. the staff was really helpful and friendly.
i really liked the train theme of the restaurant, even the waiters were dressed in the uniform of train masters which adds up a spark to ambience of restaurant.
#bestintown

Good service from friendly staff. Quirky decor, the train carriage dining room is a hoot.very tasty Indian food. Great breads and the place is always busy with Indian families dining there which is a good sign for me.
My go to Indian restaurant close to home.
Jane
Consistently good Indian food. Never had a bad dish. Their Tandoori dishes are a standout. Lamb rogan josh was also beautiful. Nice atmosphere and good air conditioning in summer months. Good parking outside. Can get busy but attentive service.

I just love the Punjabi Food here, In fact it was my first experience to eat Indian food outside india because I was in Tour to Australia for 1 month with family and on that day we are far from our place. While we're searching for some place to eat and found out this place. We're not sure about menu, price anything but after taking good dinner I felt Awesome especially paneer and garlic naan. JUST LOVED IT ALOT.

I had FOOD POISONING
Rang up to complain to hear that it's not their fault could have been bad chicken they have bought. I said I ate that Butter chicken in your restaurant ! Stuff told me they need to call Boss and after will call me .... in meanwhile demanded medical certificate from Hospital, oh yea , I went to hospital because vomiting shitting with a killer headache waited for 3 hours in hospital . I sent copy of it which I will post on this website too because I really wish no one get sick how I WAS.

No one ever called back no one ever apologised
I want my money back for food poisoned meal I had to take day off work and my partner too had to take day off work to drive me to hospital because I couldn't even see anything .
The only thing I want to say we all make mistakes but it is how we react after.
Obviously , this restaurant doesn't care about me
Here is a medical certificate to proof my horrible experience on the day
Take care people.

We love a good curry and are very fussy about quality. Needless to say, we set the bar pretty high when we walked into Maharaja and we weren't disappointed. The food was absolutely amazing!

We went back a second time to make sure we hadn't fluked it the first time and again we had a really delicious meal. The serves were pretty large and the prices were good too.

We had the butter chicken and the chicken maharaja - they were both to die for; the best we've had in a long time!

We ordered on line and the meal was nice and hot when we got there. We also got a 5% discount.

We can't wait to go back to try some other dishes.
Rebecca_mason_44
FANTASTIC! Highly recommend. Food is AMAZING service is wonderful! We always get the number 2 banquet. Everything is unlimited except the entree and dessert! So much food! Great value for money! Beautiful decor. Replica Indian train carriage inside restaurant! Very well priced as well!!'

We visited this place several times, this place is pretty full even on Wednesday. The ambience is really nice, service was nice and now coming to food, the starters were good but the curry has lots of food colour on it. Overall it's 3.5 for me.
Julie Robertson
Tasty Indian food that never disappoints. Tasty bhajis and great biryani. Love booking on the train for a bit of fun with family or friends and reasonably priced drinks.

Best Indian food in Melbourne! The Butter Chicken is soooo nice! And staff is nice as well! Love it!
Naan is also good and the whole environment can be marked as romantic and peaceful.
I will try it again!

We had ordered online from this place a couple of times but went in first time! It quite a surprise it looks amazing and reminded me of some of the good Indian restaurants back in India! For a moment I felt like was back home! But sadly there is where it stopped!
We ordered a full tandoori platter and a daal and goat bhunna which isn't in the menu but were told that it isn't an issue and can be done quickly, the platter was variety of over cooked meats with bland marinate, the daal was too thick and taste less and goat bhunna was anything but a goat bhuna! It was lacking soo much in flavour just bit of fresh coriander and a lil fresh chilli would have done it but I guess the chef wasn't interested in making that extra effort.
The service was cool, the girl serving us was dressed up as a ticket inspector/jailor from yesteryears which sort of seemed funny and unnecessary. The drinks menu is really cheap here! (Chivas regal only $4.99 with soda).
I wish the Owners of the restaurants paid more attention on the kitchen and what comes out of it, as the decor and interiors look absolutely fantastic but the food doesn't complement matches the quality.
My review would be been only 2.5 for food but 3.5 for service and the restaurant overall, if the food becomes a lil better we would definitely become regulars, I'll probably go again anyway for the cheap drinks and but not for food;p

Best indian ive had in melbourne. Love the biryani, butter chicken and the breads. Good value for money and good beer list. Would highly recommend

Clyde and I came here for a friends birthday dinner. It was Clyde's first time trying Indian and my second.

The venue was great, we were on a big table down the back which allowed us to talk loudly without feeling like we were disturbing others.

Everyone had a set menu, however we decided to order outside of the set menu. Clyde order a mild butter chicken and I ordered the Mata Mushrooms, with a side of coconut rice to share. Clyde enjoyed the butter chicken and I was partial to mine, enjoying it but not loving it having tried better.

Their alcoholic drinks were quite cheap which was good however their lemon line and bitters was quite pricy.

We probably wouldn't come back here again because we have found better options closer to home.
Overall, good and quick service, with good food.
Hungry-Caterpillar
Ordered 3 dishes with Rice and garlic nan bread. Not a great experience, very oily and intense. I wouldn't give this a go again. Normally love Indian food, so it was a shame.
Pooch
This place was an extremely pleasant surprise. Walked in off the street, and could not believe how nice the downstairs dining area was. The staff are also extremely lovely! We ordered the Kadai chicken and the lamb rogan josh with a few sides and everything came out perfect. We ordered a few drinks as well, and the total was less than $50. A hidden treasure of Preston, will be back!
M. T.
We regularly order take-out from here, the butter chicken is the best we've ever had and no other Indian place we've tried has surpassed it. Great value for money when ordering online.
Sam Scriba
Not sure if they've taken on board some of the feedback regarding poor service, but our experience was nothing but positive. We were greeted by friendly staff upon arrival, had our order promptly taken and had food on the table within 15 minutes. Several staff checked in to see how we were going without being over bearing.

Food was delicious, the beef vindaloo had a great level of spice and the beef was tender.

Huge venue which was pretty close to full, generally a good sign. Will definitely be back.
Angiemontana13
Delicious!
The prawn vindaloo, butter chicken and garlic naan was exceptional. We loved every mouthful.
Unfortunately the fish in the fish curry came out raw. It made me want to gag. They corrected the problem but by that stage I was somewhat turned off.
The service is lousy. We were seated in a comfortable table hidden in a corner. Unfortunately they forgot us there.
if you're not Indian, you won't get a look in. I realized this when an Indian family were seated at a table next to us. They got all the attention in the world. They also ruined our night with their unruly children...
Duala
Decent food and ambience. The food is not as rich and oily as the other Indian restaurants but sometimes is inconsistent. The tandoori entrees are great.
Foodie
Went for a dinner with 3 colleagues yesterday (Friday). The place is huge inside - and it was Full with both people of Indian origin and Australian origin - tells me something - somehow, Maharaja has been able to please both set of palates.

The service struggled a bit with the crowd levels, but overall, was ok. Wines were not available by glass (only by bottles) and only house wine was available by glass. This was a downer.

The food itself was quite ok without being earth shattering. We ordered biryanis, breads and sides. The entrees (tandoori mushrooms and gobi manchurian) were good without making me go OTT with glee. I think the 'X' factor was missing. However, I can easily go here again for another meal. Reasonably highly recommended for a visit.

We've been to this place a few times before and it has been good. But we went in for dinner tonight and it was horrible!!! We had cheese chilli and samosa chat for entree and malai kofta and Palak paneer as mains with naans. I am not sure if we were served cheese chilli or "onion chilli"... It had five, yes EXACTLY FIVE, I counted pieces of paneer and about 2 full onions. The samosa pastry was so raw and soggy!! And the curries were too salty and bland. The koftas were extremely hard and dry. Oh and one of the water glasses had bits of papad in it!! Although we didn't have any wine this time but looking at the stains on wine glasses that were set up on the table, I felt sorry for the people who were having wine. Horrifying experience!!! Definitely not going back.
Trevor W
Food is always great, tasty and not oily and staff are always friendly and attentive, excellent customer service. Would definitely recommend. By far my favourite Indian restaurant in Melbourne.
Jimsghost
Aside from Punjabi Curry Cafe, I would say this is the best Indian fare in Melbourne. Restaurant is great with cheerful, fun staff. Food is so on point. Garlic Naan is A+++.
So lucky that they deliver to my house
Hardik Patel
Ordered food, was not fresh, the portion of paneer tikka dry was just 5 small pieces of paneer which was not fresh and chewy and no taste at all. would not go again. not healthy. no value for money.
Urmil_604
Poor Customer Handling. I went to this restaurant and was going to order a take away. I just went through the menu and saw an offer of 10% off on dine in. After seeing that offer I changed my plan and went for a dine in option. While paying the bill ,manager didn't give me 10% off and said that the offer is valid only if we get these vouchers somewhere outside in the locality. Such condition was not written on the voucher which in the first place should have been there. I would call it as poor customer management by the manager. If you guys dont want to give the discount please take off those vouchers which are there outside and dont make a fool of a customer(I am pointing towards the guy who stands at the counter and acts like a manager and also his assistant who wears spectacles).
YOU HAVE LOST A CUSTOMER... never going back there...
Linda Maroukel
A beautiful indian gem hidden on High street. Will definitely be back for the delicious food. We had the banquet 3 amongst a group of 5 of us who went out for dinner, and we were definitely satisfied. The waitresses were very friendly, attentive and helpful.
Sarthak.midha5006
Excellent stuff. It was delicious and enjoyable !

Never come back again. worst experience iron nail in food. Today we went for lunch. Initially we like the food. But when we finished half, suddenly my husnand felt something hard in the mouth which is not chewable at all. And guess what it was iron nail. This is Tottaly unacceptable. we got the excuses from chef that the nail was in butter brush. no manager in the restaurant. we are definitely not coming here again. it was one of the good place for us but now itS not. angry and disappointed..
Jennamgyal
Love our local. Been ordering from here for years.....great quality Indian food. However, on a recent order we ordered tandoori chicken. It was so dry and a chicken leg looked like a drumette!!! nevertheless will consider it a bad night and see what the next order brings.
Mon's Adventure
Recently I was invited to sample and review Australia’s number one online takeaway system Menulog...I chose Maharaja Tandoori Cuisine in Preston as I’ve eaten there previously and enjoyed it. Furthermore the reviews and ratings on Menulog were quite high.
Bek
Amazing food & service, it's the only Indian restaurant we eat at!!!
The new fit out is superb, you have to come and experience it :)
Sammy
Despite the average service, the food was amazing. Definitely found our new favourite indian restaurant.
Jonliu91
The best indian place!. It's beyond difficult to find a divine Indian restaurant in the Northern suburbs, and Mahraja did not disappoint. As soon as you walk into the restaurant you are welcomed with such a warm greeting then lead to your designated table. Customer service at this restaurant is impeccable and the waiters are exceptionally well mannered. Food is extraordinary, especially the lamb rogan josh and butter chicken. The chicken tikka is cooked to absolute perfection - full of flavour and very tender. I highly recommend getting the banquet as they are worth every cent. I will definitely be coming back for more. Best Indian restaurant in the northern suburb.

Ate there the other night, of many visits in recent years. Beautiful food and very friendly service.
Jagroop Singh Dhillon
Food quality and service. Restaurent is good but food is pathetic and it was tasteless.
iwould rate it 1 on 5.
it was so bad food we had from indian cuisine.even we coludn't eat the food.at front counter the guy was disgusting and arrogant, no apologies but was arguing with us. i wouldnt recommend anyone to go there.
Jayme1408
Best Indian I have ever had. We have been ordering from Maharaja for a few months now and have no complaints. We love this restaurant, the food is always perfect and so tasty! The service is nothing short of fantastic! A few times we have delievered, and they are no word of a lie right on the time we request the food be delivered. They once forgot the Raita we ordered, and they had the Raita sent out within 5 minutes of us calling them. Highly recommened this restaurant to any indian lover, as they never disapppoint!
We have become regulars now, and rave about them to everyone!
Foodzilla
Ordered the butter chicken and garlic naan for the first experience from the restaurant (after previous disappointing meals from other local Indian place). Am pleased to report this is a new fave for me- the food was delicious and generous and I'll definately be back!
Matthewjjburke
Friendly, Comfortable and Tasty. Lovely staff, comfortable surrounds, if not a little kitsch, and dishes of a high quality.
MelbMumYummm
We get home delivery, always on time and hot. We love love love the butter chicken and so does our 3year old
Diana A
Unique and Interesting. I love the convenience of being able to order online on menulog and getting my indian delievered plus its open late. My favourite dish is the beef rogan josh.
Kokubear
Keep driving.. There are better Indian places nearby. Wouldn't go back there.
Tried the chicken curry, prawn kadhir, also gabi -- don't order them.
Belinda
Full of flavour. The lunch deals are fantastic value: two curries, rice, and a drink for $13 - all served on a platter and with a smile. The Matar Paneer is lovely as is the Dahl Taker. The staff are lovely and the service is fast but the food is fabulously fresh and delicious.

The restaurant is also very private and ideal for group lunches.
Nick
Worst customer service ever. Ordered my entrée and mains all together. Eventually starter (cheese chilly) came after 40 min and damm cold inside. When complaint the reaction from manager was over the moon and got my dish in 2 min straight from microwave. Finally left without eating.
Eiman C
The food was delicious!!!! Great service and will definitely be coming back to this restaurant in the near future!
Vishal Pawar
Good food, tidy ambience & reasonable service
Kaz
Good food if you like very very mild indian food. When you order hot I expect it to be spicy and at least have some heat.
Jyoti
Room for improvement.. Their service is lovely but the food is either too bland or too sweet for Indian palate.
Raakhee Nagaonkar-Suneet
Great place, good interiors n good food. But the best is awesome service!

Best Indian Restaurant to Date. Maharaja Tandoori Cuisine is by far the best Indian restaurant myself and hubby have found to date anywhere in the north/east/cbd areas of Melbourne - and it has been the best 4 years running for us. We are yet to find another Indian restaurant that beats it.

Food: Absolutely delicious and faultless 99% of the time, you don't need to add a single grain of salt and it's also up to my Indian husband's standards which says a lot. The only tiny negative is that it seems there is a different chef on different nights of the week and sometimes the balance in the spices is a bit off. If you go Thurs-Sat you can't go wrong though, chef rostered on then is brilliant.

Service: 10/10 - they know us personally when calling up over the phone (probably because we order so often) and offer card payments over the phone for delivery which is extremely convenient because you don't always have cash. Have also dined in a few times and the service is faultless, staff are attentive and the overall atmosphere is pleasant. Service is also very quick so you don't have to worry about starving to death while waiting for your meal here. The restaurant decor and cleanliness is fine overall.

Value for money: Great value for money in comparison to other overpriced and bad Indian restaurants in the area. You can get an entire 3 course feast to share between 3-4 adults (e.g. a platter, 2 curries, 5-6 breads, large rice, drinks and dessert) delivered for an average of about $50-$60. This price is nothing considering the quality of the food as mentioned above. They also offer family packs which saves a tiny bit and is convenient.

If you want real Indian food full of flavour and a decent price go here. Don't waste your time trying anywhere else.

Best in Preston. It took us a number of attempts to find a good Indian restaurant in the Preston area, but after some trial and error we stumbled upon Maharaja and have not looked back since.

My only minor gripe would be that the spice balance of the food is occasionally inconsistent. This might simply be due to the fact that there are different chefs on different nights, and some may be a bit more liberal than others when it comes to spices.

Even so, the quality of the food is always excellent and has become a staple at our house.

Not bad. We enjoyed our meal, it wasn't amazing but was good. The Samosa's were excellent and soft, and not a Potato overkill. The chutney & Raita were yummy, We ordered the Lamb Madras curry and Chicken Tikka Masala. Both were nice, Lamb had a bit too much of the coconut flavour, from coconut milk & Dessicated coconut sprinkled inside of it. But it was still nice... Overall I would give it probably a 6.5/10 - Good but nothing to rave about. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but would dine there again if I was craving Indian & was in the area. Downside; Tacky, outdated decor, staff seemed like they didn't wana be there (Apart from one nice waitress), and they had a plant & Fake waterall... To add a bit of Corniness to it lol

Everything was delicious except for the malai kofta, which was like ball of curried glue, although the sauce it came in was yummy. The other surprise was the sugary-sweet raita, I'm not used to my raita being served sweet, but everything else was good: we had a vindaloo veggie curry and a lamb jalfrezy. The lamb in particular was melt-in-the-mouth good. The garlic naan was good and the jeera rice was also. Restaurant has an odd layout, the sunken dining room was a bit of a surprise.

Tasty. Will definitely go back, we had the Beef Palak & Butter Chicken and both were very very good. The beef in particular was tender and so many layers of flavour. Excellent quality.

Only been once but was really inpressed by the quality of the food. Sides of raita and naan were above the norm in terms of taste and texture. It's great to see businesses like this one creating food excellence in the burbs.

Love it. One of our favourite places to eat in and order take-away from! The food is consistently very good quality with lots of vegetarian dishes to choose from and generous serves. The home delivery is great and has always arrived quickly, hot and enough for lunch the next day. The service in the restaurant is also consistently good, staff are always so polite and attentive.

Tasty local. We've ordered from Maharaja, take-away, a handful of times now and have been consistently impressed with the food and the service. Staff have been friendly and helpful over the phone, orders have arrived piping hot within 30mins (even on weekends) and the food is really, really tasty. Yes, the delivery minimum is $35 but the servings are large and we get a couple of 'left-overs' meals out of them the next day.

Also, rather than having vegetarian dishes on the menu as an afterthought, there are lots and lots of dishes to choose from and they're all packed with a wide variety of fresh vegetables. My boyfriend isn't a vegetarian like me but we both choose to order the vego dishes because they are so damn good.

Highly recommended!

Very nice. We had family visiting and ordered take away. Butter chicken was my neices favourite. I found the chicken korma a little sweet. The madras beef was spicy as was the spinach paneer - these two were my favourites. They use good quality meat as well - not fatty. The garlic naan was beautiful. This will probably become our regular Indian take out place!

Read the reviews on Urban Spoon and thought we'd give it a go anyway. We ordered delivery on a Wed night. We were told delivery would be 30-40 mins and it came in about 25. Food was great we were really surprised. It was really flavoursome and not as heavy as some Indian food makes you feel. We are relieved that there's good Indian takeaway near us and they deliver. Reasonable prices too. We really enjoyed dinner and will be definitely be ordering more food when we're in the mood for Indian takeaway.

So slow! 2 times we had to cancel our order because there was over an hour wait.

Consistently awesome takeaway/delivery with lots of awesome vegetarian options. Try the paneer makhani!

Yum, Yum, YUUUUM!. The food here is of such a good quality, I will continue to keep coming back so long as the food keeps coming as tasty and relatively inexpensive as it is.

Must try the fish curry!

Delicious. We order from Maharaja regularly and love trying new things from their extensive menu. Only disappointment was the butter chicken, nothing major, just the flavour not quite as awesome as everything else on offer.
