Review One Noodle Friendship - Preston

Wayne Humphrys
Been there numerous times over the years and has always been great. Doesn't look that flash but like I said the foods great.
Andrew Jameson
Great dumplings and noodles in a basic shop in an arcade off high Street. My pick is Lanzhou braided beef noodle loaded with chilli oil. Not a place for lingering or date nights
Ian Tilley
Very unassuming place, but the dumplings are to die for. By the time we had finished our early dinner the place was full. Clearly a popular choice for locals.

Not terrible, but not great either. A humble, rather shabby chinese noodle and dumpling bar. While the couple that run it are friendly and the food is OK, Im not sure why it rates highly. The food is slow and comes out separately, so one person may have finished before the other has started. Tucked in the back of an arcade, it's dim, not particularly clean, and doesn't have much buzz. I won't be rushing back.

The dumplings were great. Bit of a wait, but the place was packed so not very surprising, I'd call ahead next time. Staff were very friendly.

Great dumplings, can buy home and cook yourself too

The AWFULLEST restaurant I have been! Let’s boycott it! They don’t respect patrons at all. The fat man argued with me and shouted me down with swear words, because I thought the dish was too salty and somewhat bitter. Then, I just wanna leave, but he still keep yelling towards me.

Delicious hand made dumplings and noodles. Super friendly aunties will look after you.

I’m all for the hole-in-the-wall experience if the quality of the food delivers but sadly One Noodle Friendship did not. Our usual dumpling store across the road (Ping’s) was closed for renovation, so we came across One Noodle Friendship when we searched for alternatives nearby. <br/><br/>Even though we’d never heard of or tried it before, with a rating of 4.3 on Zomato, we thought it’d be a safe enough choice. We ordered takeaway over the phone and it was packed and ready for us when we arrived, so it was quite a quick and easy handover process. <br/><br/>However, we became quite apprehensive the moment we unpacked at home and saw the dismal amount of sauce in the Zhajiang Noodle container, which had been topped with springs of coriander and one single broccoli floret. Granted, the texture of the noodles was nice enough, but even the best noodles in the world need some sauce for flavour. It had us digging in our pantry for some soy sauce and chilli oil for our own modifications. <br/><br/>Besides the glaringly obvious dryness of the spring onion pancakes and the distinct lack of actual chopped spring onions, the pancakes were also weirdly green, almost like the cook had simply decided to blend a bunch of spring onions into liquid and added it to the dough mixture. I wouldn’t have minded this rather unorthodox method of making spring onion pancakes had it actually tasted of spring onion – alas, it did not. <br/><br/>We then turned to the dumplings, our last hope at salvaging our increasingly disappointing meal. However, biting through every dumpling was a bit of a struggle due to the very thick skin which made them extremely chewy and almost mochi-like. Whilst I can appreciate the effort they may have put into making the dough in-house, I would recommend that they stick with store-bought, pre-made dumpling skin. <br/><br/>All in all, to say this meal was regretful purchase would be an understatement.

This humble eatery serves up amazing dumplings and fried noodles at reasonable prices. The dumplings were made to order and it makes it really fresh! <br/><br/>If you’re in Preston be sure to visit for a good dumplings fix

Clearly, I'm a big fan of noodles and I'm on a search for the best noodle places in Melbourne. These noodles definitely cultivates friendship as their textures are so good. You know that their handmade when each strand looks so different from the other. Go for the beef noodle soup and you can't go wrong. I dont know how long they cooked the broth for but gosh it's so tasty. Will definitely be back for more.

Wholesome, delicious food. Homely, cosy decor. Beautiful service. Very very cheap. Absolutely amazing. We ordered Beef curry with rice, fried peking pork dumplings and stewed beef noodle soup. All excellent dishes.

Good service here in this shop. <br/>The prices here are reasonable and given that I've walked past here numerous times it was time I stopped lol<br/><br/>The lady kept encouraged me to sit down so I did in the end. I really like the fact that you are always given a cup of tea with your meal, complimentary of course.<br/><br/>They do a good trade with their hand made dumplings and they sell frozen ones too which I might try. <br/><br/>The chicken dumplings were ok, but the wrapper was quite thick and gluggy. The chicken was fresh and tasty though. <br/><br/>Overall an average place.<br/><br/>

Never go to this place, the food is there is totally trash for Chinese, and there is even no air conditioning in hot days, definitely a nightmare to eat food there!

One thing I love about Melbourne is its cuisine diversity and all the obscure eaters that take away from the mainstream. Being at One Noodle Friendship goes like this. You walk along the north side of High Street, Preston. You see a run down arcade with beauty salons and noodle shops. You go into the room which is dimly lit (better not turn the lights on lest there is a power outage and the generator is noisy). You order a big plate of handmade dumplings or noddles. You go into the back room and sit at a Laminex table and wait only minutes for your meal to be plopped down in front of you.

I do not think I will find any better noodles in my life. my friend said the exact same thing. They make prety good broth. The beef curry was the best. the fried noodles with pork are PERFECT

One noodle friendship in Preston. It had been open for more than ten years and nice small noodle shop served traditional handmade Lanzhou ramens.
Veronica Leon
The food there is the best I've ever had the ower is very kind we buy their dumplings all of the time and we fight over who gets the most. I love it there it's the absolute best.❤
Jim Thornton-Wen
Amazing, come here if you want traditional fresh noodles. A bit hard to find tucked away behind an arcade but it’s well worth the adventure👍🏻
Jess
Best dumplings in Melbourne. Please don't ever change. We moved away from Preston years ago but return to restock the freezer with dumplings.

The owner is a very nice and funny guy. Noodles are hand made. Chewy and tasty. Dumplings really decent. Small restaurant, cosy, I still enjoy dining in. Please support this place.
TarnishedPath
The dough on the dumplings is too thick and the flavours are bland. The only saving grace for this place is that the noodles are decent. To make this place more impressive the food takes an eternity to arrive.

I’ve been here several times and it’s always been consistent. <br/><br/>Dumplings - love the handmade dumplings here. There’s a thicker skin than most will be used to but it’s well fried and crispy all over (see photo). <br/>Noodles - handmade noodles here are also pretty good. <br/>If you get a soup noodle then expect a clean, light broth. <br/>I would stay away from the fried noodles unless you’re a big lover of bean sprouts. <br/>My personal favourite for noodles are the zha jiang noodles (pork mince with noodles - dry). <br/>I also enjoy the spring onion pancakes, beautifully crispy!

Good dumplimgs.. my friend once ate 50 they were that good.<br/><br/>Definatley try the dumplimg noodle soup, ome of my favorites. The chili oil on the table gives the soup a good kick. Must try<br/>

I have ordered 3 different soupy noodle dishes. They all seem to me using hot water instead of stock as soup base. Plus side, there is credit card facility but with a fix cost of 90 cents. First time last time for me.

One of Melbourne's best kept secrets! The handmade noodles and dumplings are incredible. <br/>Friendly owners and quick service. This place is never a let down. <br/>Must try: veggie dumplings and everything.. it's all good!

Due to the high Zomato rating, I was very eager to try out One Noodle Friendship - especially since it was so close to me! Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype and I was disappointed by the overall experience. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was what to be expected for a cheap noodle/dumpling joint, however the food lacked flavor. I convinced my boyfriend to come with me and together we had the pork fried dumplings, beef curry on noodle and grilled chicken fillet with teriyaki sauce and rice. The dumplings were delicious! However, the other two dishes were lackluster and bland. The organic noodles were commendable, but without any sauce/flavour it was difficult to get through. And only a very small portion of meat was given. If i was to go back, i'd only go back for the dumplings.
Street Cred
I always walk past this place and know the rep it has so when I came to the market today I decided I'd eat here beforehand and get some dumplings in.<br/>I walked in and the owner was in the process of yelling at all of his staff, fair enough sometimes but today old mate tore strips off all the kitchen workers for at least 25 minutes. It was uncomfortable and the food took an eternity to come out.<br/>After 30 minutes I stood up to walk out and the dumplings arrived with a big apology from the top man.<br/>They were really good, I could hear the table next to me who waited as long as I did approve of their food as well.<br/>I'm keen to come here again for noodle soup and the many other offerings, hopefully one noodle friendship has some more friendship going on than what I experienced today.

The food is simple and very tasty, probably my best comfort food in Preston.<br/>Highly recommend getting some frozen dumplings on the way out.<br/>The interior is basic and fairly hilarious... wait for the chairs to squeak awkwardly whenever you move! There is also a pleasant view of the hairdresser and fabric shop in the arcade while you have a very short wait for your order. Staff are friendly.

I was excited to try One Noodle Friendship on account of the high Zomato rating and some feedback from my colleagues. The restaurant is quite cosy, and the staff were nice. I tried the fried pork dumplings on my first visit, and these I was a little disappointed by. They weren’t bad, but the maker had put some unusual flavouring into the filling, and this proved to be against my hankering for a more traditional dumpling taste. Additionally, I found the dumplings to be a bit smaller than the conventional size. <br/>I planned to go back to try what they were famous for here—the handmade noodles. I opted for the fried handmade noodle with pork. Now, this was a letdown in many ways. Yes, the handmade noodles were good and had a nice chewy texture—but there was so little of them!! The dish consisted of mostly bean sprouts, with barely any noodles or meat. The overall flavour was incredibly bland also, with only a touch of wok flavour being the defining feature. For $13.80 this was quite a rip-off. I would actually prefer to rate this restaurant a ‘2.5’, but I can’t.

Good. Basic. Let’s be honest this place is no frills but does really great handmade noodles and dumplings at a great price. The small, awkward, noisy space with wobbly tables and noisy chairs sort of adds to the appeal in some ways.. <br/>Food came out a little slow but it was busy so the wait was understandable.<br/>Chinese broccoli and oyster sauce wasn’t as good as I had hoped, cut much smaller than I am used to and lacked the requisite thick rick oyster sauce. It was still nice, fresh and crunchy just missing something.<br/>Fried pork and prawn dumplings were terrific although one or two of them could have been described as slightly burnt..<br/>Fried handmade noodles were not what I expected but also very nice, noodles them selves were nicely chewy and clearly freshly hand made. The pieces of pork belly were great! very porky and flavourful if perhaps a little scarce.. <br/><br/><br/>

Food is really nice, quite tasty and home made. I had dumplings a couple of things, but I recommend eating at the restaurant rather then taking away
Masha
A hidden gem. Friendly staff, flavorsome food and the noodles are all lovingly handmade. Would recommend for a quality dumpling or noodle soup fix.

Nothing great , not sure how they scored 4,2. Waitress barely spoke English and messed up my order. Only English spoken was “hot or “cold ? Have been to better Asian joints

Just had a fantastic experience here. Stew beef noodle soup was delicious and fresh , eggs were nice but better when heated up in my soup. Teriyaki chicken noodles were awesome as were the dumplings. Preferred the steam pork and prawn over the fried pork as the fried skin was a bit too thick for my liking
Chewynoms
Got the Lan Zhou beef noodle. The beef was amazingly tender and the soup was clear and refreshing. Drank almost half of it and didnt feel thirsty after - indication of no or less MSG. <br/>However the hand pulled noodles were not as chewy and were cooked to the softer side.

As part of the American Express ShopSmall offer which usually occurs in November, any transaction above $20+ spent in a small business registered with American Express is credited with a $10 cashback. With this deal, I was more enticed to spend on small businesses in my local area. I have had my eye on this particular restaurant for a while since it holds one of the higher scores on Zomato in Preston, so the AMEX offer made this an irresistible opportunity to delve in.<br/><br/>We arrived on a hot Wednesday afternoon. The market was reasonably crowded but parking was not really an issue. We were greeted by the sole Chinese waiter who showed us into a small air-conditioned room, which was refreshing. He handed us two simple laminated menus and subsequently came back with two cups of tea. While we were waiting for our order to arrive, I tried to pour additional tea for myself using the supplied thermos on the table. Alas, it was completely empty. I coyly swapped it for another thermos on the adjacent vacant table and tried to pour once more - only to find that the lid had not been screwed on properly so the liquid just dribbled everywhere. Thankfully, with easy access to table serviettes, the small puddle of tea was hastily cleaned up without much hassle. However, it did leave a negative imprint on my mind that careless errors like that were present. What if that lid had been a little bit more loose, and contained scalding hot tea? That would have been a disaster waiting to happen.<br/><br/>My dish [Braised Chicken with Noodle Soup] arrived first. At first glance, it seemed relatively simple. A sole piece of braised chicken maryland laid upon homemade noodles bathed in soup with a garnish of coriander. A few chunks of broccoli littered the sidelines. I found the noodles to be rather bland - it definitely had a healthy and homemade feel, but it just lacked any sort of flavour, punch or zing in general. On the other hand, the chicken and soup were truly enjoyable. The chicken had been braised well, resulting in tender meat that was delightful and highly enjoyable. The chicken skin was also tasty, looking like it had been marinating in sauce for an adequate period of time to capture great flavour. The soup was flavoursome and felt healthy at the same time. It was not laced with MSG or other insane condiments like I have come to expect at most Asian restaurants. I finished every last drop and did not feel sick nor thirsty afterwards. This aspect really reeled in the home-made touch to the dish.<br/><br/>My friend ordered the Fried Beef Dumplings. They took a surprisingly long time to arrive in comparison to my dish. The dumpling skins were crunchy and delicious, incubating soft pieces of succulent and tender meat at its core. However, the supplied [Kikkoman] soy sauce was asinine due to it being of a cheap and lousy quality. Even with a mild dash, it resulted in an overly salty dressing over what would have been otherwise a delightful dish.<br/><br/>The service was simple and standard. The sole waiter present took our orders and delivered our food. No faults, no praises.<br/><br/>At the end of the day, this restaurant stands out among its competitors in the area because the food genuinely has a home-made feel. The absence of processed food and MSG strewn around bring about a welcoming and well balanced palette at a reasonable price tag.

I love this place. The main chef is a legend, the staff are all great. The noodles fantastic. The Chinese style dumplings are the best in North. Food tastes fresh and the prices are low. In terms of atmosphere, well it isn't great, but I'd rather they skimp on ambience and put the effort and money toward the food.

ACTUALLY THE BEST VEGETABLE NOODLE SOUP IVE EVER HAD.<br/><br/>I had it when I was feeling sick and had a flu and it was so good I nearly cried. Every time we go here it's amazing. Great dumplings and fried noodles and the eggplant is good too. So is the peanut, sesame vermicelli! Try it! <br/><br/>Quirky place with weird service but, hey. The price you pay for genius food for cheap prices. Amazing!

Beef fried dumplings are so good! With price like this and taste like this, I'll definitely gonna come back here often! Also I order 5 spice beef noodle soup, it's so yumm! My gf ordered braised chicken and got this gigantic portion, and so flavourful!

This place was a massive surprise! <br/>Tucked away from High St, in a cosy little space, my expectations weren't set high. At all. <br/>I'm always happy to be proven and last night I was! <br/>I tried the chicken noodle and beef noodles, and also the dumplings. All meals were cheap and tasty, and the staff are friendly too!

I'd been here before a few months ago and a trip to the Preston was an opportunity to revisit with my partner. It will definintely be the last.<br/><br/>We ordered dumpling noodle soup and a few spring rolls. After the waiter took our order, instead of handing the order across to the chef/owner to handle, he went across to the freezer himself, dug his hand into the freezer and pulled out a bunch of dumplings which he then transferred to his other hand. <br/><br/>Piling on dumpling after dumpling I thought to myself that this was a recipe for disaster and so it came to pass: a couple of dumplings rolled off the top of the pile in his hand and onto the (completely disgusting) floor.<br/><br/>No worries - he just picked them up off the floor and handed them across to the chef to be prepped with the noodles.<br/><br/>Maybe that sort of thing doesn't bother you. As my partner said, there's probably a whole lot worse going on in restaurants across the city but there was so many things wrong with the whole situation that I just couldn't get over it and left the bowl untouched on the table. I've eaten street food across Asia and without exception, the reputable stalls take hygiene seriously. I've never seen food picked up off the floor and served to customers. That's not hygenic and definitely not cool.<br/><br/>It looked and smelt OK but my guts were roiling. A family who had just taken a seat near me leant over and asked what I was eating. "I don't know," I said. "But I'm not eating it." "Why?" they responded. "No comment" was my reply, with a look that explained everything. They all scrunched their faces and looked at each other blankly, deciding whether it was safe to continue. <br/><br/>Enter at own risk.

This place is simply fantastic and I haven't found anything like it in the area. Hand-made noodles and dumplings in front of your eyes, incredibly cheap - stick to the favourites like dumpling noodle soup and be liberal with the chilli for best results. I used to live in South-Western China where this stuff is a daily staple; it's fairly rare to find it here in Australia. Outstanding.<br/> <br/><br/>There are a few caveats:<br/> - Don't bother with the rice or fried noodles. It's not exactly a regional favourite and shouldn't be on the menu. They do three things exceptionally well: dumplings, noodles, soups.<br/> - It's a massive bowl of dumpling noodle soup for eleven dollars in a Preston arcade, so expect that you will be cheek-by-jowl with your neighbour and the decor will be terrible<br/> - Further in keeping with the "cheap eats" comment above, expect that the kitchen staff will treat you as little more than a compulsory annoyance as they gossip while making you delicious dumplings. Love it and enjoy it for what it's worth.

Worst noodle place I have been in Melbourne, don't even know how they got a high rate overall.... not authentic at all, taste like cheap instant noodles and the restaurant is shabby and dirty. I would give a minus 5 if I could.
Justin Tan
Tried the pork, beef and vegetarian dumplings. The pork dumplings were the best but all three are not as delicious as those in the city. The place is a bit noisy and lack ambience. Not suitable for a date night. Not sure how this restaurant gets a 4 rating.
Glynis Vickery
Really tasty elements surrounded by blandness. <br/><br/>Service really friendly, family run business great fast service.<br/><br/>This is very basic food but elements very tasty
Bec Donaldson
This was horrible. Got beef 'fried' noodles - they were soft and gluggy and there was basically no flavour, hardly any beef and barely anything else at all. When I got home I had to put them in the pan and add a bunch of stuff to make it barely palatable. I could have made something better than this with my eyes closed, and payed a quarter of the price. I would definitely never go here again and I wish I could get my money back for this totally revolting meal. And I have never written a review in my life, and I am never one to criticise the food in front of me.
Oshannessytim
Worst noodles I've ever had. Bought the beef noodles, they were gluggy and ridiculously bland. Very little flavour, I couldn't finish it. The spring rolls were average at best, they were not light or flaky. Avoid One Noodle Friendship, it's terrible

Whilst having my meal, I was accompanied by a nymph. Not exactly the kind of company I'm looking for at a restaurant. <br/>The plating of the food was rather underwhelming, and I found the dumpling skin a tad tough for my liking. But to be fair, their dumplings are all hand made and do have good stuffing. Probably the steamed ones or the ones boiled in water would've been a better choice. <br/>It's just... the sight of a nymph was really off putting.

Atmosphere: far from fancy but don't judge a book by its cover. Really casual place.<br/><br/>Service: friendly enough & quick.<br/><br/>Food: Ordered a serve of steamed vegetarian dumplings, fried chicken dumplings and fried pork & prawn dumplings. Pro: everything. Dumplings delicious & flavorsome especially when dipped in chilli oil mixed with soy sauce. Cons: nothing.<br/><br/>Price: cheap<br/><br/>Overall would return. <br/>
Andrew Carland
RIPPED OFF- checked efpost statement- $8.9 dumplings were charged at $45. <br/><br/>Food yum- Hand made dumplings , cooked to perfection with dipping sauce, yum. It's a unassuming venue and has not spent anything on decorating (standard Asian street style) <br/>The place was busy and they sold frozen dumplings
May Tan
The way the shop is - tucked away, small and a little cramp, not spick and span and perhaps a bit greasy, and menu that is different - makes it feel a little more authentic. Growing up, it's shops like these that makes the tastiest food, no? Unfortunately not this time, I'm afraid. It's a very casual place where you would probably go for a quick and satisfying - quantity wise - meal. Some things like stewed meat leans towards authenticity; instead of the usual deep fry. We ordered stewed meat in noodle soup, fried rice and dumplings (as if we could stop ourselves). The stewed meat in the noodle soup was surprisingly nice. Friend rice was plain. Seems though they used the same stewed meat but because it's been stir fried, it was a tad dry. The dumplings were good. I can't put my finger on it, but it taste a little different, it's as if they used butter but don't take my word for it. Anyways, this is a good place if you want ultra casual meals, maybe a quick one during your lunch break or to get a quick bite and be on your way. I wouldnt mind coming back to try the cuisine from this chinese province - which I forgot.

I don't understand why the point is so high.... I come for the point but disappointed.... the food tastes far away from 'delicious'.... just food...

Worst dirty and valueless dumplings.Rude staff and Horrible place... I was dining there few months ago because the treatment with the people statistic communication-they talk between themselves. about customers and delivering their product. and the product degrade..<br/><br/>Best thing is they fight and the kitchen noise thats a daily routine..<br/><br/>They do not even clean the table...<br/><br/>Crazy costs and I had several takeaways in Dumplings you pay 30 dollars and the ladies will stare at you like Thief or a shop lifter.<br/><br/>Very Inhuman and culture less place..<br/><br/>They force you to pay for the chilli dip and soya vinegar dip also. after by 30 dollar 50 dumplings vegetarians and 25 or 28 for 50 PORK dumplings.. You need to beg for the dips.<br/><br/>Will make my own traditional regional meal than dining or wasting money for take away.<br/><br/>CHEAP and humiliated no credit or gratitude to customers.<br/><br/>Kindly avoid this place...  Mates.. Cheers

Dumplings, Dumplings and more Dumplings!<br/>Hand made in front of your eyes. Take-away a steamed or fried selection, or buy a freezer pack to enjoy at your convenience at home.<br/>Staffed by mom+pop (i assume) and a Tom Sellick look alike, this place is kitsch and cool.<br/>Keep your order simple with a few dumpling selections and some steamed asian greens and boom, your set.

Best dumplings in Melbourne! Delicious pastry made onsite. This place is an institution in my circle of friends. Not the prettiest dining area but service and food quality is always great.

A small joint located inside the market. At once it is difficult to locate so you have to look even closer to find it. Once there, there is a good variety of items tou can choose from to eat and prices are quite reasonable. Although they have a little seating space inside, I would suggest takeaway is a better option. The dumplings were very nice rest the food is average. But seeing the cost it is quite good value for money.
Sandeep
Good dumplings but unfortunately, on the whole, the food didn't live up to the 4.2 rating. The fried Rice was soft and over cooked and tasted quite plain. The noodles were good but the overall dish lacled flavour.
Jürgen Balmianto
Love their food despite the environment . They made good food and it reminds me of Shanghai . Fried chicken dumpling is really good crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Braised beef noodle soup is so flavoursome , even if it's a clear soup based. So yummmo and PHRESSH!! Ahhh and the home made noodles is Perfecto!
Raamya.raajesh
Food was ok.. The owner chef must change his menu . Add lot of vegetarian dishes in your recipes..<br/><br/>Try avoid ordering food . Go for the dumplings and tea only..<br/><br/>Recommended for all kinds of dumplings and the chilli dip...
Gabe
One Noodle Friendship is about as authentic as a hole-in-the-wall Chinese noodle shop outside China can be. The dumplings here are the real deal, and I've never ventured beyond them.
Leena
Ordered beautiful fried chicken noodles and fried pork dumpling. Food is fantastic and quite happy with the taste. The control unit for the lights for rear seats were above of my head. I didn't mind the scale and how messy floor until something is happened. I was thinking to order some takeaway dishes to share the wonderful taste to home and I quickly left the restaurant as soon as the baby insect crawl up on the wall right next to me!!!!!!
Monita
Cheap and tasty food. Perfect for lunch on a cold winters day. I ordered the steamed peking pork dumplings (12 in a serve for around $8.50) and my friend ordered the beef noodle soup (around $13.50). Neither of us could fault our dishes. It's not a fancy place but the food is good.
HotChipy
I really wanted to like this place but the noodles & dumplings were stodgy and bland. The chilli oil dumplings were seriously lacking in chilli. Very disappointing. Wouldn't return in a hurry.
Pixiefoodie
No idea how this restaurant has such a high rating. It is not great but is just alright. I occasionally order a wonton noodle soup from here when I am unwell. The noodles can be nice but most of the time are a weird consistency the wontons are nice and fresh. However, I do like their vegetarian steamed dumplings. Everything else I have tried so far I would never order again.
M. T.
It's dirty Chinese food - dumplings and noodles are freshly made so those are the only two things that should ever be ordered. If anything, just the dumplings - noodles are a hit and miss kind of basis
Jess Carey
Don’t expect anything fancy here – it’s basically Asian street food undercover. You can roll up in your trackies. You can use plastic chop sticks. The menu has spelling errors, there’s often tea leaking from the thermos on your table, and the staff don’t speak a whole lot of English. But there’s nothing pretentious about it; it’s good, authentic food made the way it’s meant to be, and I hope this never loses out to the rejuvenation of the area.
Digestinator
The dumplings and noodles are made fresh to order here. Very tasty. Peaceful atmosphere. Worth a visit if in Melbourne and hungry. Not too expensive either.
MaraschinoM
This place has the BEST steamed vegetarian dumplings! I crave them all the time. Definitely the best dumplings in Preston, hands down. The stewed beef noodle soup is also a winner.
Nick Komo
Ive been coming here for years but no for the food. For entertainment listening to the old chinese cooks screaming at each other. Funny...... oh and food fresh and cheap 😊
Alex Ogbourne
I LOVE THIS PLACE. Is my number one stop for a hug in a bowl with a plate of the worlds best dumplings. The staff are so friendly, and the food is just as good. The braised chicken noodle soup is amazing as well as the pickled cabbage and pork soup. Absolute fav and would highly recomend.
Nay
Friendly staff, especially the chef, a smile to make you feel very welcomed. We had dumplings, the spinach noodle dish and spring onion pancakes, very well priced and delicious, highly recommend the vegetarian dumplings and the noodles. Certainly hit the spot on a chilly Melbourne evening, even better that it's local. I will be back!

Was here a few wks ago to have a girls catchup. Plenty of tables available around dinner time. Not the finest dining place but if you want good, cheap, and quick dumplings then this is your place! Located in preston between the walkway passage. <br/><br/>We over ordered - dim sims, fried dumplings, steamed dumplings and wonton noodles. All for under $30!

I don't quite understand how this has such a good rate average.<br/><br/>We had Zha Jiang noodles, friend noodles with chicken, Japanese beef curry with rice, tempura prawns, and two lots of dumplings.<br/><br/>The Zha Jiang noodles were ok, but no where near the best I've had. They lacked flavour and substance. The fried noodles were bland and had 5 pieces of tough chicken. Similarly the beef curry had very little curry and beef and a lot of rice and the beef that was there was tough. The dumplings were the highlight but nothing you can't get elsewhere.<br/><br/>The restaurant itself is small, messy, and a little bit dirty. I don't mind small 'hole in the wall' eateries located in strange places but this one was one of my least favourite. <br/><br/>Overall I was quite disappointed. They clearly like to skimp on the main parts of meals and load it with rice and vegetables. There is nothing special about any of the dishes. The only upside is it's cheap. You get what you pay for I guess.<br/>

Don't let the appearance deceive you. We almost turned down the place because it looked rough around the edges but decided to try it out given its great reviews and it sure lived up if not exceeded our expectations. <br/><br/>The stewed beef noodle soup is a must try as it is what they claim to specialise in and it is very authentic, noodles are handmade and the beef was very well cooked. The chilli oil dumplings were just extraordinary, skin was thin and soft, the filling was nicely mixed and had a good skin to filling ratio. Add chilli, soy sauce and vinegar to your liking for both, your tastebuds will thank you later.

I really love the dumplings here, fantastic food and good value.  Been here multiple times and will come back for sure in the future.  Just .... don't expect too much on their customer service.

An excellent value dumpling house. Looks a little rough around the edges but perseverance to give this little gem is definitely worth it. The Peking pork dumplings are great, as is the dumpling noodle soup for under $10.

Chilli oil dumplings, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce and pork and prawn fried dumplings to share. Perfect amount of food for two. $23 dollars. How can anyone go past that? Cash only, very unpretentious but definitely one of my favs

"Fried Noodle with Vegetable" = two thirds sprouts and one third noodles/cabbage/onion. The noodles (when I could find them) were delicious. Similarly, the primary ingredient filling the "chicken dumplings" was celery. Otherwise, delicious dumplings.

I had the stir fry beef noodles, worst dish I've had in a long time, I came to this place because of the reviews, I guess they have good dumplings but I'm not planing to come back to try them.

Went there looking for delicious dumplings but found 'standard' fare. Xlb were split and didn't have any soup inside. Pork and prawn were fairly boring. Chili oil dumplings were amazing. Didn't enjoy the chicken noodles. Don't think I'll be back

Hard to go past the Chilli Oil Dumplings @ OFN.<br/><br/>Grab yourself another bowl and mix vinegar, soy & chilli oil to your liking. Drop a dumpling into your specially made concoction(feel free to split/poke/skewer/tear/halve your dumpling whilst immersed in the goodness for that extra flavour/kick penetration). <br/><br/>Eat. <br/><br/>Repeat.<br/><br/>Pro Tip - Place 2 or 3 dumplings in the magic mix concoction bowl, whilst slurping away the dumpling, spring onion, chilli oil broth, whilst waiting for the magic concoction to leach into your dumplings. You'll never go waiting!<br/><br/>Ping seems like a pretty chill dude, always smiling when taking your order and pouring tea, whilst in the front window his cheerful minions ply their dumpling magic. One Friendship Noodle is much like an Asian Xmas dumpling grotto located in the middle of a walk-through arcade in the middle of Preston DBD. <br/><br/>Great stuff.

Just some good honest dumplings and noodles served and made by legends. My review has to be at least 140 characters long apparently, that will do.

Love this place, nice and cosy with great food. It's a small place in Preston but the food is the best! I visit them at least once a week and so far they have never disappointed me. I would go as far as to say; they have the best dumplings in town. Would definitely recommend.

So Sad. To be honest, this is the first time Urbanspoon has let me down. The service was friendly, don't get me wrong, but when we sat down at our slightly sticky table, I started to worry. We were given cups and got very excited only to be let down. The thermos of tea on the table was only a quarter full and I got the impression if I tried to refill it I would get a smack on the hand. We ordered a serving of shrimp and pork fried dumplings, peking pork fried dumplings, shallot pancake, teriyaki chicken on dry noodles, and beef with fried noodles. The chicken came out first and while the broth in a side dish had a nice mellow flavour the chicken was really like a strange Karaage with a couple of bones. Which was sort of tasty but mainly strange. The peking dumplings were next, and they were burnt. They also some how managed to make a dumpling that wasn't juicy. The same was for the pork and shirmp... which strangely tasted very similar, with the only difference being the occasional shrimp in one. I'm not sure what to say about the beef dish. Some of the beef was really nice, however, most pieces were very unevenly cut and mostly fat and/or tendon, which I know when cooked correctly, beef tendon is really soft and melts in your mouth. This was mainly chewy and overly salted. The noodles were the saving grace and had a nice texture and flavour. The shallot pancake, when it finally arrived was... abnormal. It tasted like a fried green tomato, which was fine with me, seeing as how I originally come from Alabama, but for my husband and friends, it wasn't a pleasant experience. I certainly would not go here again, and I was embarrassed in front of my friends for having recommended it from here on Urbanspoon. Oh, and there was mold on the lid of the chilli oil. Which was shocking to say the least. Such a disappointment. Maybe everyone who has left an amazing rating was high on drugs at the time when they ate... because this food was terrible.
Chasing A Plate
... One Noodle Friendship, a basic shop in the middle of Preston arcade is churning out these very noodles- thick strands of hand pulled wheat noodles that wallow in bowls of soup together with your chosen protein be it stewed lamb or grilled eel. The menu consists of a few ‘starters’- five spiced pigs ears or the wine chicken may appeal, a variety of dumplings, half a page of noodle soups (pickled cabbage and shredded pork is on my list to try next) and various rice and vermicelli dishes. There’s also a Japanese section which most diners on the night seem to be steering clear of choosing to stick with what One Noodle Friendship are known for. We do the same and order two bowls of soup, dumplings and some gai lan. The usual routine ensues when the Peking pork dumplings arrive. Vinegar is splashed into a bowl together with a healthy dollop of chilli oil. We dunk the dumplings into the tart, fiery pool. The dumpling skins are thick but remain light and the filling of lean pork and cabbage is well seasoned. They’re very good. Swirling steam wafts up from the bowl of stewed beef noodle soup that arrives. This is One Noodle Friendship’s most popular dish. The broth which almost reaches the rim of the bowl is clean and simple in flavour. The coil of white noodles are thick, bouncy and filling. The beef is tender and flavoursome and the broccoli is vibrant and crunchy. It’s soothing, steaming hot and the perfect antidote to my cold...

Everyone says don't judge a book by its cover on Urbanspoon about this place and it's true in one basic way - a fishbowl look of the place would tell you this is a basic really no frills place. Yet, if you take a look at dinner time, this tiny place always has punters and can get pretty full of a mixed crowd that has uncovered a real gem in Preston. The made on premises noodles and dumplings are always fresh and I absolutely love the understated noodle soups, which doesn't overwhelm you with meat but does the job. It is certainly one of the nicest, freshest noodle places in Preston.

What's the attraction?. I don't understand how this place has such a high review. Maybe I just ordered the shittiest stuff. The fried pork dumplings were ok ... not great – they tasted like lemongrass and cup-a-soup ... but they do not compare to the dumplings one gets at Ping's restaurant just over the road which are a hundred times nicer. The fried noodles and beef ... admittedly I was expecting something with a bit of sauce ... it really was just fried noodles with the odd leaf stirred in and some grey warmed up sliced beef on top. I know it was warmed up because bits of it were still fridge cold. Overwhelming flavour of Star Anise or something did not make it more pleasant. I didn't finish as I could sense my body telling me "no, please, this is really crappy food", and my partner took my advice to stop before she felt sick. We left our food unfinished and went to find somewhere to rid our mouths of the flavour. Oh yeah, my partner had the same fried noodles but with chicken. I think the chicken was probably worse than the beef. It was crunchy, which is different. Otherwise, 5 stars!

Really disappointing. I was hoping for fresh vegetable noodles and all I got was noodles with a little bit of cabbage. No flavour, no sauce. Bland, bland, bland.

Second Review - Ever happier than last time!. I am extremely happy to have tried their famous dish - and what a dish. A Delicate yet flavorsome beef broth, aside handmade thick white noodles, some greens and a beautifully braised cut of Beef. Its aroma made my mouth water, and it's Texture, flavour and everything about this dish made me smile. I have seen a new side to this restaurant as well as to Chinese cuisine in general. This famous Beef noodle soups comes from a place in North-Western China called "Lan Zhou". Mmmmm, I could actually do with some right now! :)

Great Pho Alternative. When its good, it's really good. Tasty dishes across the board, excellent dumplings and the folks cooking and serving your food are friendly and welcoming.<br/>When it's not as good, it's still very, very reasonably priced and a cosy, tasty dining experience.

THE BEST IN PRESTON. Seriously try the pho and dumplings here ! It is the best quality and the price is amazingly cheap!!

Perfect noodles.. It's the attention to the basics that makes the food here really special. Their standard bowl of noodles is simple and straightforward, but the house made noodles are always perfectly cooked and the soup stock is second to none. The melt in your mouth stewed beef completes this dish, and the sum of the parts is perfection. Another notable mention is the incredibly tender and flavoursome braised black chicken.<br/><br/>The wonderful food and friendly and enthusiastic proprietor make up for the dingy location.

Amazing. I love this place, the food is amazing every time we eat here which is often<br/>simply the best noodles in Melbourne :)

Quick, cheap and hassle free. We arrived and were greeted by a very friendly waiter. Free Chinese tea at arrival. Restaurant is clean but nothing pretty at all. A lot of clutter and tables packed in close to one another. Every time someone got up, sat down or shift in their seat they would make a loud horrible screeching noise. However, being a busy little store the restaurant wasn't noisy in regards to the volume of people. Tables were cleaned regularly even when I spilt tea over the table the waiter was there cleaning up in seconds without having to ask. At the front window when you walk into the arcade you can watch dumplings being made. <br/><br/>The food was reasonably priced and very tasty. I would recommend the dumpling and wonton soup with chicken stock. It came with noodles for an extra $1 which I struggled to eat due to being so slippery.

Beautiful dumplings. Yes, it's scruffy. But the dumplings. So good. Smiling dude at the counter is very sweet. This is one of those secret places you want to tell everyone about to ensure the business sticks around.

Homely food. I'm not usually the biggest fan of thick-skinned dumplings, they're often gluggy and the ratio of skin to filling seldom taste right.<br/><br/>but one noodle's dumplings are nicer .. they're thick yes, but they're also soft with tasty fillings. Their handmade noodles taste and texture are very similar to the dumpling skins. My complaint is that there was too much msg in the soup, overriding any authentic flavour.<br/><br/>They really should fix those noisy chairs. Service is efficient and friendly, you can't help but smile at their hair nets.

Pretty genuine. Scruffy, not perfectly clean, cases of soft drink blocking the floorspace, drunks falling over in the arcade outside... but who cares, when the food is cheap, delicious and genuine, and the service is friendly, if not exactly polished.<br/><br/>The noodle soup with grilled eel... yeah, that! ;-)

My One Noodle Love.. I love this place. Seriously. Small and unassuming, it's a hidden gem that I'm incredibly sorry no one really knows about. The vegetarian dumplings are singularly the most delicious and flavourful dumplings I've ever eaten in my life. Their noodle soups are absolutely divine, with gorgeously made handmade noodles that are thick and tender and soak up the soup perfectly. I always get the tofu noodle soup and the owner is very conscious of whether I am a vegetarian and always follows up to ask whether I want to substitute the beef/chicken soup for a vegetarian option. And the price! So reasonable for the large portions you receive. The owner of the store (Not sure of his name, but he's always behind the counter cooking) is always happy and smiling, and so mindful and courteous of his customers in all aspects. This place may not look like much on the outside, but it's such a priceless gem. You'll not regret a meal here.

Friendly noodles. Delicious, cheap, with the added bonus of a friendly owner. I have had dumplings here many times before which are great, but only tried the noodles for the first time today - what a treat! I don't really care for noodles that much but these ones are excellent. Must try if you are in Preston!
Yummo
Steam dumpling was ok, chicken fried noodle was the worst i've ever had. Rock hard deep fried chicken was added to the noodle which seemed to be just stir fried with soya sauce along with tons of beanshoots, at $12.80 i wasnt very happy!

Best Noodle Shop Ever. This place is amazing. The food is fantastic. The name is great. The staff are super happy. The half egg plant dish...oh man, deep fried until its gooey enough to scoop with a spoon and covered in some secret amazing satayish sauce is just incredible, and of course the fresh noodles, dumplings and everything I've tried off the menu so far. The staff are just lovely, the smile on the young guys face makes me incredibly happy before the food has even arrived. The best thing about Preston for sure.

Been here many times for no nonsense 'real' Asian noodles and dumplings. Made fresh in front of you. Love it!
