Review Buddha Thai Restaurant - Preston

Sooo good! My partner and I have walked past here a fair bit and decided to give it a try and it was delicious! Generous portion sizes, great menu and food was amazing!!! 100% recommend

I don’t actually understand negative reviews. I noticed that many people who rated 1star⭐️ have only one or two reviews, so I decided to check it because its next to our apartment. 👟We went there yesterday. The waiter was very nice and supportive. He was doing his best, had repeated our order to make sure if it’s correct and he made some eloquent advices. His English wasn’t perfect but 100%understandable. Food- absolutely delicious! Especially soup with coconut milk ❤️ 💰Prices- affordable. For two starters, two main, double whiskey and a bottle of wine, we paid under $100. It’s really nice, quiet place with positive atmosphere, I’m happy that I live next to them!

Love the place its nice and quiet. And love the food went twice. And satisfied. Good for vegans and vegetarians. Surely recommend.

I placed an order for food to be delivered. My order was accepted and was being prepared. I had been waiting for 20 minutes now and out of no where my order was cancelled. I did not receive a call to explain the reason of cancellation. Absolutely appalling service. Now I have to wait 5-7 business days for a refund. Don’t recommend at all.

Buddha Thai is a traditional Thai eatery located in Preston that offers a great range of authentic Thai street eats, curries and stir fries.
The dishes were all reasonably priced and generally well executed. Coupled with quick service and complimentary desserts for dine-in guests, Buddha Thai offers great value for money when dining out!
Gastrology
Buddha Thai pleases guests with bold and assertive Thai flavours. If you want the real thing, it’s here. And it comes in abundance. Don't let the pricing fool you, the portions are wonderfully generous and perfect for sharing. And for wine lovers waiting to open that bottle in the cellar, Buddha Thai just so happens to be BYO as well.

This place makes no pretension of being anything more than a local suburban Thai joint and it honestly doesn't need to. It's good, well priced, honest food.

And I'll say this. Get the satay skewers. I could eat that satay sauce up with a spoon. In fact I frequently do. It's like crack.

After trying this place on uber, this is now our number 1 thai local down the road from us. The Green chicken curry is great , Tom yum soup packs a punch and the red fish curry is very authentic just like in Thailand. The Decor is no frills in the restaurant but the food is of a good standard and price is right.
Absolute worst service ever! Called two times about a late delivery order and was lied to both times "the driver left 10 minutes ago" both times. Waited over 2 hours before giving up, and when we called for a third time they were VERY RUDE TO US and "had no idea what happened to our order". Will never order here again and would not recommend them to anyone that actually wants a delivery or an honest person to deal with.

We ordered the Red Curry chicken, Chinese Broccoli, and a coconut rice.

I wish the coconut rice was more coconutty. Possibly this would be less authentic, but I like my rice super coconutty. Chinese Broccoli was good, the greens were quite tender. Red curry chicken tasted good, but the curry itself might've been a little thick.

Our favourite Thai - highly recommend!
The seafood and chicken dishes are always perfectly cooked and succulent, the Thai flavours are authentic and very tasty.
Generous portion sizes and lovely presentation. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating with dietary requirements.

The food at this place is so good I could simply kill myself.

Just got the 'tom kar' soup with chicken and coconut rice delivered via uber. The tom kar flavours were great although I would have preferred a lot more chilli and spice. It was fairly weak on that behalf. When ordering I asked for preparation to be gluten free and they wrote on the receipt gluten free and highlighted it to show me an effort was made. Coconut rice is incredible... I definitely would eat bucket loads of it if I could! Fairly decent meal, not as flavoursome as it is in thailand but still quite good.

We ordered takeaways on a weeknight. I arrived right behind another customer, who walked to the front desk with a bag of food. When he finally got staff attention he explained that when he got home he realised that they had given him the wrong bag. The staff member looked around, found another bag and swapped it.

I took a step towards the counter and said my name. She then gave me the very bag that the previous customer had returned.

Not impressed with lack of organization. Lack of apology. Lack of food hygiene.

Awesome that food full of Thai herbs and spices.. Lovely ambiance and friendly staff.. Must try their soups, noodles and fried rice... Most recommended...

What a complete disappointment!

Never have I been so disappointed in a restaurant.
Not only was the food terrible but it was over 20mins late being delivered and it had been sitting in the delivery car for just over an hour since the food left the restaurant so it arrived cold.
When I called to complain, the lady offered to call the boss and call me right back, that was an hour ago.
I ordered the chicken curry puffs and chicken Penang curry with a side of rice.
The curry puffs were stone called and they didn't have any chicken.
The chicken in the Penang curry was so over cooked it had a rubbery texture and it had the taste of when chicken is reheated in a microwave.
The rice was also cold and gluggy.
I will never be ordering from Buddha Thai again. Who knows, perhaps I just had a really bad experience but out of 3 dishes, service and delivery all getting a fail, it speaks for itself.

This is our go to takeaway place. Ordered from them countless times and have never been disappointed. Generous amount of veggies, tasty sauces and consistent taste. Speedy delivery and always friendly and pleasant to deal with. Makes it hard to ever consider moving.

This was, without doubt, the worst Thai I have ever (attempted) to eat. The entree selection was some stingey serve of party food mixed with rubber fish cakes and not enough sweet chile sauce to drown an ant. The Massaman curry contained cheap, minute steak that was like eating an old shoe. Seriously, have you never eaten a proper Thai curry with beef that melts in your mouth??? It also contained semi-cooked vegetables. I will never order from here again! If you want a decent Thai, try Samanee in Moonee Ponds. These guys should go there for cooking lessons!

This is the worst thai food I've ever had - not even sure I'd go as far as calling it thai food or food at all for that matter! 'Massaman' curry was stir fry minute beef with packet frozen potato, carrot and tinned pineapple! Entree was spring rolls an fish cakes that I could buy at Costco and satay 'beef' was a sloppy peanut buttery mess! The only redeeming thing about this meal was the steamed rice that I inadvertently ruined by putting the curry on top of, all for the pleasure of $60. Save your hard earnt cash and if u feel like take away go to mcdonalds! I wouldn't feed this garb to my dog!

Really lovely staff & service. This is the best Pad Thai I've had around Preston, or even Melbourne... Really great red curry too. Fresh and dazzling on the tongue.

Not going back. The nice shop front convinced us to give Buddha Thai a try.

We paid a few dollars more than our regular up in Preston, and unfortunately also waited a few minutes extra on our take away.

The Pad Thai was horrible, served in an off tasting sauce with chewy tofu and what may have been a piece or two of chicken.

The chicken fried rice with vegetables, thai basil, garlic and chili was seriously the worst thai we have ever had. And we have dined in some pretty dodgy places.

Sad to say we will definitely not be returning for another meal, as this is closer to our house than any other venue.

Lovely restaurant with quality food. The massaman chicken curry is by far the best I've ever had!

Hazzae. Awful home delivery. Chicken was overcooked and tough. Do yourselves a favour and move on.

Average experience to say the least. Ordered food here for the first time around 630pm today. Put the order in and was told it would take 90 minutes for my food to arrive. 90 minutes?? The restaurant is only a 10 minute drive from my house so why it takes this long anybodies guess. 2 hours went by and still no food so had to ring them to up to find out where the food was. It arrived around 20 minutes later luke warm and the delivery guy had forgotten to bring the drink I ordered. Only discovered this when I went to open the food, called the restaurant to send the driver back which they said they were going to do but he never returned.
Food as ok, nothing out of this world. I had a masaman curry which was quite oily. All seemed very expensive for almost $35 and no drink.
will not be going here again unfortunately.

Constructive criticism. Visited Buddha Thai last night with friends. Not too busy which was nice, service was quick and restaurant quiet making conversation easy to hear. Being a chef with 30 years experience, I offer the following ideas to think about. Food served to the table with the exception of deep fried items were served just warm, I believe heating the serving dishes and ensuring meals are delivered to the table quickly would resolve this issue. Also review the amount of bi-carb used in your marinating process for beef, way too much. Overall, this restaurant does extremely well with takeout, should increase its table trade if a little more attention to detail could be achieved.

Don't like it!. My partner and I thought we would give this place a go, the decor looked amazing so we walked in.

We ordered a calamari stir fry, the calamari was so difficult to eat it was really chewy. The red curry was really average, not authentic, the potatoes were undercooked and there were under cooked carrots in it as well. The rice serving was so small for each of us that we were shocked. We are happy to pay high prices for good quality food, but this place is charging over $20 for a main however the quality, freshness and authenticity is lacking.

Never going again.

Don't even bother going there. Went to eat here last week. Ordered food and my partners Duck Curry came out and was smallest proportion for how much it cost, then we waited for my meal where 20-25mins later we realised it wasn't coming, so I asked the waitress where my meal was and they realised they forgot it, another 20mins later they finally bring my beef yellow curry out and I started to eat it and pulled 2 pieces of beef apart to eat and realised it was still frozen and completely raw inside.. I almost vomited and we left without paying at it was horrible. Would not recommend this place to anyone, over priced, small portions, bad service and food is very bad. How can you serve someone raw meat in a curry???!!!!!!
Rosie
Expensive, small portions and I could have made better. Probably should have. Also I got delivered the wrong entree and had to wait for the correct one to be redelivered...not good at all.

First time trying the buddha thai experience. The meal was quite expensive for the quantity that I received! My dish was the Satay Chicken Noodles. It was absolutely devine. In fact, I would love to eat that meal every single night for the rest of my life.

The delivery driver had bad vibes.

4/5.

Visited the restaurant tonight for dinner with my fiance. We were very happy wirg the service and quality and quantity of food. The waitress continually filled our glasses with water and was very friendly. We ate the pad see ew, roti's and vegetarian spring roles. I will visit this restaurant again to try yhe curries!

Five of our meals were brought out 15 minutes apart... Not cool! My dish was tasteless and cold

Love Thai Prawn Soup. I am addicted to their Thai Prawn Soup its too delicious. Their Prawn Crackers are fresh and yum. Reasonable prices, the decor is average could do more and make it look more warm, like extra lighting. The service is good. But the food is yum.! Worth eating.

Lovely restaurant. Wonderful service. Table of teachers next to us slightly unnerving

We liked this. We called late and they had closed, but they delivered us food anyway - and we appreciated that. We had the vege spring rolls & curry puffs for entree. Both your standard kind of fried entree - we enjoyed. Main was chicken pad see ew, which we both really liked. Lots of chicken and fresh veges with a perfect sauce - not too sweet, just right. Massaman beef had lovely sauce and though the beef was tender I do prefer the chunkier style rather than stirfried style. Also found the carrot and pineapple slightly unusual - but tasted alright. We will come back to try more dishes, thankyou.

The Pad Thai is good!!. I must say I really only eat the pad thai here, which i highly reccomend genuinely very good. However I wasnt impressed with my one dish of Penang Curry ... too much of the curry soup, the flavours were still sweet though. delivery is fast they usually say 40 min but its never been that long for me, perhaps 20 min. Also as of now they also bring the credit card option to you and you can sign at the door which is handy. friendly staff after quoting my phone number they will know my name and will quote my address to me. Very efficient friendly lil business

Had a great night!. The ambience is peaceful and serene with quotes from Buddha, statues, plants and waterfalls. The decor is classy, yet comfortable and welcoming. The wait staff attentive and very friendly and the chef is top notch!
The food we had was that of a five star restaurant. Presentation was amazing and the taste was just so delicious! BYO so we were able to bring a good bottle of wine to do justice to the amazing food.
We had a great night and I will definately go back for more! When I need beautiful surroundings and food, I now know where to go. Big thanks to all the staff at Buddha for a great night :)

I order takeaway from Budda Thai- the staff are lovely and friendly- but the food is pretty average- there really isn't very much flavour or anything to write home about- a bit disappointing over all.

Never Again!!!. I ordered delivery last night.
After 1 hour and 30 minutes i called back and asked where my order was.
I was advised the delivery driver must of been coming to me last.
I literally live 2 streets away and in hindsight should have walked around to pick my order up.
My food was cold and the beef was chewy, my roti bread was crumbling it was awful.
I wont be ordering there ever again.
I much prefer Silk Thai and their quick delivery.

Average service, menu and plates. Nice local cheap eat. Nothing special but a pleasant atmospheres and will contiue to dine here, as no great expectations

Wouldn't go there again... Ordered a pickup meal, staff were friendly on the phone & repeated the order once complete.. The food was ready in the specified 20 minutes... Was skeptical from the other mixed reviews but decided to give it a go despite the expensive menu... Ordered the 4 piece 'mini' chicken spring rolls for $8 - thought for that price they might be the short thick chunky style rolls but instead tiny little rolls youd find in the frozen section at a supermarket - a total ripp off.. Oh well, had great anticipation for the red curry but was very dissapointed by the bland cheap cuts of beef which were inconsistent sizes and chewy.. It was like blade steak.. The flavours were nice enuff but the meat ruined the whole dish.. All up for x4 spring rolls, a standard size curry & rice for $26.00 it was an epic fail!!

The food here is amazing! It's probably a couple of dollars per dish more expensive than your average Thai restaurant, but I think that's offset by how good the food is! Prawn and cashew stirfry was delicious and the Penang and green curries were also very good. Service is adequate - staff are a little shy but who cares!? They cook so well!!

Incredibly slow delivery.. Perhaps they were just having a slow night but waiting for almost two hours after being told our food would arrive in 40 minutes was a bit much.

There was also a dish missing but since some of our guests had left by that point anyway we didn't bother pursuing it.

The food itself was reasonable but not amazing.

Good. Ordered home delivery this week. They said it would take 45-60 minutes but it came after about 25 minutes, exceeding expectations. I had the yellow curry with seafood which was fresh and tasty. I also had the Roti with Satay sauce which was tasty too. If I'm in the mood for Thai takeouts I'll definitely order from them again.
Jenni Thorman
So delicious!. I brought 2 dishes (pad thai chick and prawn stir fry) a small rice home deliver which cost me $40.50 so it was very expensive for this little hung over chicken BUT I could instantly see the quality on opening each dish.
The from the array of vegetables and the crunch of prawns the cheif obviously cares about his food.

As for the service, the gentleman who served my the phone was very polite, efficient and professional.
I would not hesitate to order from here again, maybe next time I'll share the bill!

Terrible atmosphere, awful food and crappy service.. After having such high hopes of this new Thai Res in the local area, we will NEVER go back.....

The first time we went to this place, more than 2 mths ago, the food was good esp. PADTHAI CHICKEN and GREEN CURRY BEEF. We went back last couple weeks after work and the dishes were so disappointing. We ordered PADTHAI but we got tasteless noodle soup. Overpriced food, which was very slow to appear. We waited for over 40 minutes for our dinner, when another couple who walked in 30 mins after us, got their food before us.

I agree with RSV about " inexperience and incompetent front of house staff ".

Also, you can see very messy n dirty kitchen when you pay the bill at the counter.

Buddha Thai - great taste, hold the salt. I get take away from this place, and love the flavours. After a year in Thailand, the food from here reminds me of "home". I also kick myself each time I go in there - because I somehow manage to forget to tell them to go easy on the salt. The last half times I've bought meals here, the food has been WAY too salty.
I've never eaten in, but it really seems more a takeaway place than anything else. I personally think $16 or $17 for their fish and seafood mains is good value, given the freshness and flavour of the food.

New Management???. The restaurant looks fine as soon as you enter but food is a bit too expensive. First time we went there about couple of months ago. The food was great so as the service so we decided to go back there again. However, yesterday was our second time here. We had to wait for 30 minutes for one item to arrive and another 30 minutes for the main course to be served. The taste was very odd. The service was bad. For the price you pay this is totally unworthy place after all!!!
Kattstar
Fantastic food and some of the best in Melbourne but highly recommend takeaway! The service at the restaurant is awful, chaotic and incompetent. My partner and I played a game at out table of who could get the attention of the waitstaff in a creative way. Totally oblivious to our existence.
