Definitely my favourite Vietnamese restaurant, all the staff are super friendly and the service is super fast. The food is consistently good and are big portion sizes.
Great pork chop broken rice and tofu/eggplant clay pot rice - nice service too
I've had the com tam dac biet (broken rice with pork chop etc) a few times as well as the tofu and eggplant clay pot dish, spring rolls and fried tofu. Everything was delicious and fresh (and I like that they don't skimp on the herbs for the spring rolls) Large serving sizes too. My favourite local.
Great Viet food and great service, top contenders for pho and Viet coffee. I usually get the egg noodles with crispy chicken or broken rice special. Their spring rolls and quail are also very good, probably best in Melbourne
GREAT AUTHETIC VIETNAMESE FOOD. When I'm too lazy to cook and craving some comforting food, this is the place I go. The com tam is pretty good and the noodles in x.o. sauce and lobster is to die for. The bbq set is also quite affordable and comes with plenty of sides (vermicelli noodles, leafy greens and rice paper wraps). I highly recommend the pork belly, beef and fish for the bbq sets.
Overall, service is great, affordable and delicious.
The grilled pork chop on broken rice is really good but I can't really recommend anything else on the menu. The pork was well seasoned and grilled to perfection and the charring added a pleasant depth to the dish. If anything at all, I will come back just for this dish.
The pork was from heaven and the bone broth was unreal. Would give 11/10 if I could. I'd definitely recommend this place to people wanting to try amazing Vietnamese food.
Very good, authentic Vietnamese food. The hu tieu xao bo (rice noodle and gravy with beef) had a tasty gravy and more veggies than I'm used to with this dish, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The sui cao (prawn dumpling in soup) was delicious: tasty stock and dumplings packed with prawn, yum! Fast and efficient service. Recommend.
Popped in last night by chance before they closed up to have their special beef pho and spring rolls . Pho was delicious; clean-tasting and not overly-salted. Pleasantly surprised at how fresh and crunchy their bean sprouts were given how late it was. Spring rolls were crunchy, not oily and lovely with the fish sauce. Place feels casual but the service was top-class. As we came in just before their kitchen closed, they politely asked if we could make an order soon but we never once felt rushed at all throughout our meal. We found the male waiter to be especially thoughtful as he came to inform us that the floor was being mopped and for us to take care whilst walking around. We can see why this place is rated so highly by previous customers. Although we don’t live in Preston, we would definitely come again!
Atmosphere was really good. My meal came out very quickly and was absolutely divine, however it came out about 10 minutes before everyone else’s. At the end of our meal they gave us a wedge each of watermelon which was so cute. Only criticism is they didn’t put coriander on the meals and when we asked for it they didn’t have any. I got the grilled pork bun and it was so good. Definitely coming again.
Great local! We love taking groups out to the Vietnamese bbq (the set is great value), or eating in. Favourites are the grilled pork vermecelli, tofu hot pot and coleslaws. Service and food is quick. Only request would be for more vegetarian options!
Great restaurant with really delicious, good quality food, friendly staff and good prices. We've been looking for a good Vietnamese restaurant close to home and now we've found it! We'll be back for sure.
This restaurant is spacious with one section for the BBQ and one for regular meals. Had the Salted Fish fried rice and it tasted very good, just enough salted fish and the portion size was big. The place seems to be a local favourite, a little crowded but since it's a large space, it adds to the atmosphere and enjoyable experience.
Fantastic Vietnamese food, lots of variety, friendly staff, quick service, great value. Would defo come back.
We had the grilled chicken banh hoi and bun with spring rolls and couldn't finish both plates despite desperately wanting to!
Quite simply the best Vietnamese I've ever had. Ever. Can barbecue your own food over one side of the restaurant and some brave souls did that - got ingredients bought out on a trolley and off they went! Griddle in the middle of table. The rest of us less adventurous were places on the right side of the restaurant to try their delicious cooking. Do try steamed prawn dumplings in sauce - you wont stop at three! Spring rolls are enormous and you get 6! With lots of lettuce and mint. The salads are the best I have ever tried and other dishes all beautifully cooked. This place is top value for money. Parking out the back at Woolies - you can walk through. Well worth the visit. One thing though- don't expect service with a smile - staff are quick and attentive but I have yet to see one smile...
Our go to Vietnamese in Preston! No complaints at all, you also get served watermelon and dessert. Broken rice is awesome as well as the smoothie drinks. Cheap, tasty and filling. What more to ask!
After reading the positive reviews of this place, I decided to try it out with the crew. Surprised to find such a large space and a restaurant divided into 2 sections. One for table top bbq and the other regular dining section. Lots of people dining was a great sign. Low on floor staff which meant slow service but once we ordered the bbq banquet, the food came out quickly. A large selection of different dishes came out to be grilled then put into fresh rice paper with lettuce, veg and herbs with nouc nam dipping sauce.
Very fresh and tasty and a great way to share food.
BYO a plus. Recommend
I've been here several times with large group and tried variety of dishes last couple of weekends.
Pho, crispy chicken, sweet vegetable hotpot, combination cray pot, seafood fried noodles, green vegetables with garlic sauce, beef with tomato rice etc.
I've been trying to take photos of untouched beautiful dishes but it isn't easy to hold everyone of them. Certainly all dishes are fresh and delicious.
Customer service is great.
The food was massive in portion, price was affordable and service was quick and friendly! They serve awesome bbq baby octopus and their fish is so crunchy and tasty, without it being too oily also! The coleslaw was fresh and full of flavours. Definitely going to be a regular :)
I don't know why I haven't been here before since I live close by. It was a quiet night here but I was pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness of their food. Ordered deep fried flounder and it was so meaty. The crispy chicken was seasoned perfectly and I was happy to walk out with a fat belly and a fat wallet (since everything was so cheap). Highly recommended.
Had a really good experience with the BBQ here, we were so clueless about everything so they cooked it for us and it was mostly cooked to perfection. $65 set meal for two was plenty (although we did finish it!). We ordered prawns, chicken, beef and pork neck. You also get lettuce and rice paper and herbs and noodles to wrap and eat the meat with. Plus we got spring rolls for entrees. All the meat were yummy except for the beef, the beef doesn’t taste like it has been marinated at all.
Being there with my kid, we also ordered the wonton noodle soup. The wontons weren’t that great though so don’t order, the noodles were good.
They gave us dessert and fruit at the end, it was a very enjoyable meal.
Love this place! The food is authentic, fresh and honest. These guys disappeared from the Footscray scene a little while ago and I have recently found them again in Preston. Sad for the Footscray locals but good for the folks around here!
Omigod, finally a real Viet place which delivers to the centre of Northcote!! Uber eats ones are okay, Menulog Vinh Vinh from Richmond no longer has pho on its menu and all the good places on high st don't deliver. Randomly sussed out delivaroo and found this gem, as it was only 10 mins before close I hadn't got to do my research so took my standard beef pho with everything. So much mint and sprouts and condiments not stingy at all, flavour spot on. I'll be trying the sweet n sour soups next as was only having a pho with my sister on Friday at bang bang and said I miss that soup with tomato and that thick water reed veg and this place has it. Rippa
10/8/2018, this time I ordered the sweet n sour soup with rockling as looks exactly like what I remember, and the caramelized pork HOWEVER, the idiot delivaroo driver smashed it all, tried to hand me a bag of soup, claimed wasn't packed correctly (crap I watched you drop your delivery back off your shoulder) and all the food ruined and covered in soup. To top it off he asked me if I could take the broken containers and I felt sorry for him so agreed to put em in my bin, but lo and behold they ended up on my bathroom floor.
Not the restaurants fault at all! and I dont think it's fair they foot the refund. I will reorder these dishes as they looked and smelt spot on, better luck next time, toasties for dinner instead
Second time at Hao Vinh. Food was nice. Tasted fresh and healthy. Broth wasn’t over salted like other pho places. Had shredded pork summer rolls, special beef pho and vermicelli w/grilled pork and chicken.
The Vietnamese BBQ is amazing! Really excellent quality meat which has been subtly marinated to perfection. Had the pork belly, beef, chicken and beef in betel leaf and all were YUM!
We ordered a heap off the ‘non-BBQ’ menu too and everything was fresh and delicious. The combination spring rolls were some of the best I have ever tasted, rare beef in lemon was zingy and fresh and I could have licked the plate of stir fried Chinese broccoli with garlic..
All of the staff were really lovely and friendly also. I was so busy stuffing my face I forgot to take photos! Will definitely be back.
This is a great concept adopted by the owner.
You have the traditional Viet dining on one side. And the other side you will get to experience Viet bbq. The price is very affordable! The owner even gave us a plate of fruit for dessert ( free of charge)
Overall, I am very happy with my experience here.
Food quality is 10/10. Quick service and friendly staffs. Highly recommended and definitely would return!!
Pho Hung used to be a Vietnamese favourite, but over the years it’s lost the quality and integrity and hence I’ve stopped going there. Hao Vinh is a relatively new addition to High St, and a very welcomed one. One side of the restaurant is bbq and the other a la carte, but there is strong ventilation without jeopardising the warmth of the place. Very well insulated and clean. We had a table of 8, mostly ordering Com Tam (broken rice with pork chop) and Mi Xao Gion Do Bien (crispy noodles with seafood). Very generous servings and very flavoursome too.
Was very impressed with how quickly the food came out, and the attentive service. Would go back again, next time to try the bbq side.
You know those simple fitout and layout restaurant that looks slightly tacky on the outside, with all the hustle and bustle in the inside… well this is it, don’t expect fine dining- but expect an awesome Viet BBq experience! I mean I’ve been to a few of those Lang Nuong places in Vietnam and Hao Vinh brings back those good memories. Big spacious venue with one casual dining side and the other half is for the BBQ option.
So although we paid to cook/re-heat our our food, the customer service was fantastic. The poor lady had to serve half the restaurant but she was so quick and friendly. All the dishes came out so quick too! Lucky coz we were all starving!!
Must try the scallops! We had half with XO sauce which was salty and sweet and mighty tasty. And the other half was a ginger and lemon sauce which was fresh and light.
Then we we ordered the banquet for 4 ppl (along with the entree it was plenty for 5ppl) which included 2 serving of mixed spring-rolls, 8 dishes, vermicelli, rice paper, salad and mints. We also ordered rice for daddy haha..
The mixed spring rolls was tasty and huge! well some of them as they were all different shapes haha...
Now not sure how the heck I missed this place as I do wonder around here from tine to time running errands!
Well what a suprise this was a great large space and the restaurant is kind of divided in two. One side caters from the Vietnamese bbq and the other half the Vietnamese menu.
We did not have time for a bbq ( but I will be back to try it out ). We ordered a few different meals but keep in mind the servings are quite large 😋😋.
Started off with the traditional Vietnamese ice coffee which was nice and strong. We ordered mains from the traditional beef pho soup, the spring roll vermicelli and I had the broken rice which had very tender grilled pork. All the meals were very well balanced and I think I have now found my new place for Vietnamese food now!
"I ordered the fried chicken on rice, the chickest was moist, well cooked."
Ordered a couple meals for me and my friend and didn't see how big the portions were, had heaps left over.
My partner and I dropped in for a late lunch and were very impressed. The staff were very helpful and the food was tasty. We ate diced beef, garlic veg, salt and pepper squid and satay skewers. All dishes were delicious!
We went to this restaurant on a random we are hungry let's go here and I'm glad we did
The food was amazing
Chicken satay to the chrilled chicken with broken rice was awesome
The staff spoke broken English but that was not an issue

Vermicelli bowls, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice are the dishes I’ve tried here and are so tasty and delicious. Best asian food I’ve had guaranteed I have yet to try their pho tho but I’m sure it will be just as good. Keen to try the BBQ section as well but probably won’t be as tasty as the already cooked meals (maybe cause the MSG won’t be there hah) I also recommend the avocado smoothie! It’s so creamy and not too overly sweet.
Had order more than 3 times, delivery, Generous portion, diced beef on tomato rice is my fave.very yummy, not too much sauce or too sweet. Also the avocado smoothies is the best! Not too runny like other places.
Easy on the MSG perhaps???
Pho broth is super sharp and on the sweet side.
Fresh, balanced Three Colour drink, apart from Green jelly pudding to replace the glutinous rice drops.
Quick service and lots of space.
Will try the rest of the Menu. JT-24/12/2017.
This place is a gem. We decided to try it as we weren't to impressed with the quality of Vietnamese restaurants in Preston and was pleasantly surprised. The serving sizes and good and all flavours are authentic. This place has quickly become our family favourite. Their Bun Bo Hieu is on point and comes with all the goodies (pork hock, pork loaf, pigs blood) and plenty of noodles. Most soup/noodle dishes are pretty flavoursome too. the only thing that was slightly disappointing was their Vietnamese coleslaw (flavours not strong enough) . All in all, this place saves us from travelling to the western surburbs for good Vietnamese - which is a bonus!
We ordered 2 typical Vietnamese dishes to try the cuisine. The grilled pork was simply lovely. The restaurant is big and light. Much better than the ones near Preston market.
Just came here for lunch to try it out, we were very happy with the food that we had. Everything tasted fresh and flavoursome, and the staff were friendly. Will come back for sure, especially to try out the BBQ.
I don't usually review places but I think this place deserves a great review. We first tried Hao Vinh through deliveroo and we were surprised by the generous portions and the quality of food given. We then made it a point to visit the place and try their Vietnamese BBQ. Portion sizes were very generous and the food was delicious, we were all so happy and full afterwards. Good value for money. This place deserves a better rating. Definitely my new go to vietnamese place - good on you Hao Vinh :)
The food here was good, had the normal menu but the BBQ side looked like fun.
Had the satay skewers a little oily and probably wouldn't get them again but the rest of the food was great. Very taste pork chop on broken rice and beef ball soup.
just had BBQ last night. Very generous serve with great tasting food. Definately one of the best vietnamese restaurants i've been to. The service was excellent.
Hao Vinh is one of the few restaurants which adopted the concept of Vietnamese barbeque. This place is massive. Not only do they cater for barbeque lovers; the restaurant is separated down the middle, with the regular menu seating on the other side. So, if you prefer the popular Vietnamese favourites you can also do so.
The food was delicious and portioned well. We had 1x seafood claypot with XO sauce, 1x broken rice with the lot, and 1x prawn and pork rice drop noodles. Service took longer than expected as they seem to be understaffed for such a large establishment. The staff were friendly and apologetic for the wait.
Ultimately, the restaurant is very clean and ingredients are noticeably fresh. Each table was even given complimentary watermelon slices at the end of the meal.
Will be returning to try the barbecue menu.
We come het all the time since they've opened. Great food for value. You can order the simple dishes or have their Barbeque which my family absolutely loves.
Amazing quality food with a very impressive variety on the menu. We ordered the banquet for 6 ppl which included 9 x types of meat/ sides, and a variety of spring rolls, and Vietnamese dessert. Great value for money and the service was fantastic. Very friendly staff who were happy to cater and available when needed. Would definitely go back again!
Best broken rice with the lot I have ever had!! Great portion sizes and very yummy, definitely becoming a regular here. Pho was also full of flavour.
This restaurant had been refurbished and looks great.
Very welcoming and happy people. Restaurant was very clean.
We ordered entree of satay beef and combination spring rolls, very tasty and warming.
The mains were number 50 grilled pork chop, pork loaf, shredded pork on broken rice so tasty, also a clay pot beef. We were so satisfied there was no need for dessert.
The table thermos tea was cold on arrival, although promptly replaced when requested.
Definitely recommend.
I came here with my dear mother after she was raving about this place. Apparently she comes here once a week? Sure mum. If not the best Pho on this strip! Gorgeous absolutely gorgeous! Very fresh and full of flavour. I was so impressed! I'll be bringing the boys down soon.
Ordered the BBQ too. Any BBQ place that I've been too it's never really money well spent because the meat servings are so stingy. Fun though cooking your own food on the table having oil splashed over your clothes. Sure. They also didn't supply any of the sauces you'd expect like they do at Korean BBQ houses. Not sure if the Vietnamese use sauces? I wouldn't come back here for BBQ but just the Pho!
2 Thumbs up!
Delicious fresh BBQ meats. Perfect amount of seasoning and flavour. Couldn't fault it. Will definitely be a new favourite. Fantastic value for money as well!
A restaurant offering something different along a strip of High St Vietnamese restaurants, BBQ! They do have the usual Vietnamese dishes too if you're up for it - though this review is solely based on the BBQ.
We had the BBQ banquet for 2, where you get combination springrolls (pork, prawn and veggie), choose 4 meats (we chose pork neck, beef, rockling and prawns) and vermicelli noodles plus rice paper to make your rolls! Prawns were delicious and the meat tender, all marinated in lemongrass and chilli.
Note: the prawns pictured were a special of the night and included in the banquet. So can't comment on the usual prawns they serve.
The restaurant is spacious, and could definitely have 20 or more guests involved in BBQ. Overall it was a great experience, quick and polite service. Value for money too.
If you can't be bothered cooking your own meat & assembling your rice paper rolls, then this experience is probably not for you. Though we thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back with more friends and family!
UPDATE:
Last Wednesday, I returned to Hao Vinh with 20 family members and sat in the BBQ side of the restaurant. Most of my family ordered standard Vietnamese dishes and the servings were generous and good quality. A few of us did the BBQ again and there was heaps of food! Did not disappoint at all and will definitely be back :)
We had a delicious lunch - highly recommend beef in betel leaf & rockling coleslaw. Looking forward to returning for BBQ. Great new addition to the Preston strip & very excited to see there is a delivery option through Deliveroo.
Amazing service and food! My partner and I just came home from a road trip from Sydney and was wanting a home cooked Vietnamese meal. I'm quite sure we have found our new favourite restaurant ✨
We have been anticipating for this place to open, to try "Vietnamese BBQ" but tonight we tried main meals and ordered one of our favourites "Bo la lot" (beef wrapped in Betel Leaf).
The dishes tasted like dishes our parents would cook at home, and it came out steaming hot and fresh nearly 10 mins after we ordered. The service was quick and so friendly, and the menu had all the dishes I would recommend to anyone who's never had Vietnamese food. I even had enough to take home, so the portions are great.
Definitely coming back to try to the BBQ next time with a bunch of friends. 👍🏼
A great nite , had the Vietnamese bbq and it was the best value for this style bbq in Melb, food tasted great and serves were generous, staff were friendly and we will be back to try more.
Loved the food and vibrant atmosphere 😊 food arrived within 5 to 10 minutes and the amount of food was worth the price 👍🏻 ordered the banquet for 6 and was able to bring home take away
We walked in here on the spur of the moment at lunchtime. We were pleasantly surprised. Had the wonton soup, pork springs, grilled chicken on rice and the diced beef with tomato rice. All the dishes met or exceeded our expectations. My partner stated it was the nicest chicken dish she has had in quite a while. We will return.
Tried the BBQ initially thought it would be pricey but portions did not dissapoint. Amazing lemongrass chili marinade on all thr meats really remind me of home in south east asia. Taste was top notch even though I did a poor job wrapping my meat and herbs with the rice paper rolls given.
Had the BBQ banquet for 2. Cannot fault the service - friendly and attentive. The food was more than enough! The tastes remind me of our time in Vietnam. Recommend!
Friendly staff, and a massive amount of BBQ food! We shared the "BBQ for 2" amongst 3 people and still had leftovers. The place is clean and spacious. Definitely coming back!
Service is friendly and prompt at this family run restaurant. Dishes were served hot, fresh and delicious. This place serves BBQ which looked really good. We ate non-BBQ but will most certainly be returning! The restaurant is large, clean and well spaced so getting in with a stroller, like we did, was a breeze. Highly recommended for those looking for great Vietnamese!
