Review Viet L'amour - Prospect

Aiden T
Pretty restaurant. Bland unflavoursome food, hot pot was stir fry served in hotpot dish. Strangely busy but rarely see non caucasians eating here ( just an observation)

Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Booked a table to accommodate my large family, staff were patient whilst waiting for late arrivals. Waiter was very helpful with recommendations! Didn’t have to wait too long for food. It was basic dishes, probably not worth the cost, but seeing that the restaurant is in Prospect we weren’t surprised. Definitely a good first experience and will recommend for others to try if in the area. :)

Quality food and great staff. We always enjoy our meals here.

Nice staff and great location. Have ordered - if the food tastes half as good as it looks then we should be on a winner!

I was so surprised with the food and service out standing, just loved it. We are going back (have already booked it) and taking others with us.

Wonderful food, great service and a very stylish decor. Beautiful mix of French and Asian meals. Has a discount available in the Entertainment book.

Went for dinner with a group of friends have always found the food to be outstanding as well as the service. However on this particular night our group found the waitress to be rude and awful, was careless on service that she provided not pleasant at all just very rude as if she did not want to be there.

We asked her about a dish that we were thinking of ordering and asked what it was when i questioned her about it she said no its a different dish, when the dish came out it was the dish i was questioning as the last time i had that dish it was awful.. Just upsetting to have a rude waitress spoil the night

Nice ambience and staff is very welcoming and friendly! Waiter who served us remained patient and helpful when ordering, especially when accomodating such a large group. Food was good but quantity wasn't great for their pricing. They could definitely add more to their servings. I think if they did, that could attract more customers. La Viet L'Amour has a lot of potential due to their location and offers an extensive menu.

After driving past the place for so many years we decided to have a family dinner . Prime location , fit out is nice , service was alright .... Food was huge disappointment - everything was just bland . Out of the 5 mains we got only the duck l'orange was decent.
Food is so-so, a bit pricy. Also the rice is not very warm.. Service is terrible. I went with my friends and the waitress kept us waiting...

I had dinner here friday past and aside from waiting some time before having a waiter tend to our table, I enjoyed the dinning experience. The restaurant itself has a nice ambience and more importantly the food was great. I had the chilli chicken lemongrass dish and loved every mouthful. Quite different from previous lemongrass chicken dishes I've had at other restaurants but think this one was the best one I've tried.

There is one reason I come to this restaurant, the Drunken Sizzling Steak. I have had other dishes when I've shared with friends and family and they were good, but the steak is the sole reason I come to this restaurant, the atmosphere and decor is very nice as well

This was the shittiest experience I've had at a restaurant in a very long time! Service was beyond atrocious, and was down right disgusting!!!! Their banquet is a complete scam! They advertise kids eat free, but this is bullshit!! DONT GO!!!

La Viet L'Amour is a great place for dinner. It looks smaller on the outside then it is on the inside. It is very busy so I recommend that you definitely book ahead rather than walk in, especially on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The only real down side is the waiting time and trying to get the attention of one of the staff. We got some food and had to wait for the rest, which was only really a problem as it was the cold roll meat we were waiting for so we could start. The young coconut juice was fantastic in taste but the glass was filled with a lot of ice so I had to order a second as I liked it so much. The Duck L'Orange was amazing and withhold highly recommend you try it. The make your own cold rolls is quite fun and yummy too.

We have eaten here three times and loved the food and service every time. Our favourites are the beef salad, duck and quail. Can get quite loud when busy but that can be an advantage when you have small children!

Just love it !!!! Food is good ,some times is excellent ,best quail ever ,the beef salad is extraordinaire and the duck is just a masterpiece ! I rate it by 4 just cause the decoration and the huge tables with the white ugly chairs make the reataurant look like a funeral function .

Very impressed. After reading the mostly favorable reviews we decided to give the place a try after driving past and admiring the decor. Don't understand the few negative reviews on here. We weren't disappointed with anything. We went on a Sunday night - 4 adults and shared meals. The decor is beautiful and the restaurant is modern and very clean (including the rest rooms). We ordered 1 serve of Wicked Wings which was cut into 4 portions and 1 serve of Prawn Toasts that had 3 portions for entrees and both were lovely, not oily or greasy. Mains were Shaken Steak, Karate Chops and Lemongrass Chicken and steamed rice for 4. Ample food for 4 people and all mains were beautiful. Though not what I would call traditional Vietnamese, the Vietnamese flavours were there with modern influences. We finished our meal with a serve of Fried Ice Cream each which was served with a beautiful caramel sauce with a citrus overtone. Drinks ordered included 4 soft drinks and a glass of Annies Lane Moscato ($8 glass). Total bill came to $143.00. Overall very happy with meal and the service, will be going again.

Viet L'Amour. I love the food and the restaurant is beautiful. However the service is very slow, one member of my table had to wait until almost everyone else had finished their meal before she received hers. Also, they seem to have no idea how to keep an eye on what people want to drink - I had to ask twice for further drink service for my table.

The waiters who did work my table of 10 people were friendly and polite even though slow. I think this restaurant needs someone to oversee the waiters and to section specific tables for waiters to attend on busy nights. If they did this I am sure the service would improve tremendously.

Very disappointed. Why didn't they say they had a large group! Took nearly half an hour to finally have a drink at the table after . I had been told they were really good but their poor service and inadequate staffing means never never again. Comments were "new staff member" and when the meal came "hopefully the meal makes up for your disappointment about the drinks" Meal was lovely (came out 2 mins after drinks) but night had already been soured.

Service needs improvement. The food was fine - rice hot pot, rare beef salad, roll your own cold rolls, chilli tofu, whole fish - no problems there. However, there was hardly anyone in the restaurant and yet we waited a long time for drinks, food, plates to be cleared. We weren't in a particular hurry but it's nice when things happen promptly.

Great night out. A group of 5 of us wandered in on a Tuesday night to see what it was like.
The food was really well cooked and presented. It was very tasty and well executed. The rice hotpot is sensational. Could have eaten a bucket of it.
And the service was impeccable
We were really impressed for a spontaneous decision.

Service and food are okay. If you are craving some Vietnamese food and can't be bothered going further west then I guess you could do worse.

Another arm of Sunflower and Vietnam Sunrise so expect a very similar menu and identical flavours.
L'Amour is the most ambient of the three, but you will pay the extra for the decor both in price and dish size.
Personally when I want to go out for a fancy meal, I don't choose Asian, but if you do, this might be the spot for you.
Glad to have tried it, but I'll save my pennies and go back to the original Sunflower.

Terrible service! Food was great, place was beautiful. One staff was extremely rude was not friendly at all, saw her throwing the bill on the table and walked away at the table next to us! What kind of service is that... I believe she is the daughter who owns that restaurant to be the that rude! Will not return and don't recommend anyone to this place. Understand it's the only Vietnamese restaurant in prospect, but there is a lot better one out there down woodville and Adelaide with much friendly service!!

Food lovely, Altho not sure that traditional Vietnamese . Exceptionally disappointed that asked if wanted main even tho hadn't finished main course!!!! Asked again twice if wanted main, do you want to get rid if your diners so quickly. Spoilt the meal

Let down $$$ based restaurant. Had my birthday there last week the decor is lovely but the food was a let down. that basically summed up my experience there. i had high hopes for this place because it was classy but the food was awful. a friend on the table ordered from the vegetarian menu and was served with fake gluten chicken product not bean curd which is what it says on the menu. the dish was not touched it but we were charged for it. Clearly this place DOESN''T care about their customers and only cares about the $$$. the young waitress was passive aggressive when explaining the fake chicken to us and rolled their eyes at another waitress. I WOULDNT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.

My mum booked this to celebrate her birthday and we were all a bit disappointed. Lovely looking restaurant with friendly staff unfortunately for Thurs 5th Sept the chef had no idea about spices or flavour. No salt or pepper on the calamari, the several steamboats and drunken dishes all tasted bland. One of the group (a vegetarian) ordered the bean curd which turned out to be a gluten product not tofu at all. The young waiter explained that many people get confused about this ...... yes that would be because you call it bean curd when it it most certainly isnt. Change the menu or change the product. It wasnt eaten and was still charged for tsk tsk

My partner and I are both vegetarian (I'm actually vegan) and I kept walking past this place thinking I hadn't seen much on the menu. I finally stopped and had a better look to find there's actually about 4 or 5 good vego options. I had the creamed coconut tofu and my partner had the lemongrass and chilli tofu. It actually was really quit chicken like! I actually panicked upon my first bite. Both meals were delicious and a good price for fine dining. For the budget minded, talk a cheap bottle of wine and pay corkage. The bottles are all $30+.

We dined last weekend with 8 people and I must say that the reviews are NOT accurate. Food was lovely, we started with an amazing combination steamboat, followed by a combination of incredible dishes for the price. Combination rice clay pot, five spice chicken, SP squid - all were great. Don't expect 5 star, but a great setting and lovely staff. Will be coming back! So nice to come somewhere too where there are wine bars next door and across the road. Looking forward to the next steamboat!!

An interesting night.. I booked this restaurant by phone on Wednesday at lunch time – a table for 10 for 7pm on Saturday for a birthday celebration. We were greeted at the door about 15 minutes before 7, but there was some concern when my booking had not been recorded. I’m not sure how that happens when the person on the other end says, “See you Saturday at 7.” Fortunately there were plenty of tables and we were put on a table for 8, with appropriate additions. We did complain and wondered what would have happened if they had no tables. As it was, by 7.15 or so it was full. The manageress stated all she could do was apologise. We requested a complimentary bottle of champagne, which she begrudgingly agreed to (passive aggressive as stated by someone). When the “champagne” came, it was sparkling Moscato – hardly champagne. We gave her a quick lesson in wine, and asked her to pour only 3 glasses as no one else would drink it. With that over, we got down to the serious business of food. To address the positive issues, the food was outstanding. Sizzling duck, drunken steak, chicken with chilli and lemon grass, salt and pepper bean curd and salt and pepper calamari were all simply delicious. As has been mentioned previously, the food comes out in dribs and drabs and some people have almost finished before someone gets a meal. This is common in Asian restaurants. The other issue that is common in Asian restaurants is that the waiting staff are not trained, but are more likely family members or from the same cultural group. The restaurant has taken on board some issues raised previously, and waiters are more friendly and concerned with your view of the meal. But the overall feeling is that it is more a commercial venture with $ being the main concern rather than a customer’s appreciation of a good night out, and a management group of youngish people who don’t understand about customer service. Fortunately the food is worth going for if you overlook the other issues. To finish off we asked for our bill after presenting 2 Entertainment vouchers. Out it came with a quite reasonable total including the “complimentary” “champagne” at $34. Should we complain or just accept it. No – we figured we’d let it go, after all we had 6 bottles of our own wine, and they had forgotten corkage! It all turned out well in the end!

Fantastic food, friendly service. I booked a table for 7 people. We had roast pork belly, salt and pepper squid, duck, chinese vegetables, fried rice, fried ice-cream, sticky rice and plenty of wine and drinks.

The service is very friendly and helpful and restaurant decor is classy. All of us enjoyed our dinner experience very much and will definately return for more!

Make sure you book a table because this restaurant does get very busy.

Great night, great food, great service.. Must admit the reviews scared the bejesus out of us, but everything was the opposite. The food was fresh and tasty, the service was great and the staff super friendly and fun. Had a great night

Great Food, but with Mechanical Service and an Obvious $ Business Model. Edit: I've now edited my review (see end) and I'm now going to rate this restaurant as a 'like' as they have really improved & I would recommend it now to everyone.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve mixed feelings about this place. No doubt the food is just wonderful, recently had the salt & pepper squid and prawns which was so mouth wateringly good, however it is all overshadowed by the (passive) aggressive service.

First impressions were good, nicely decorated, but some tables are left uncomfortably in the evening setting sun (and they were noticeably uncomfortable), as there are no blinds around the glass door area. I noticed one table had table water in a jug, and I had asked for water for our table too, to be not offered anything but expensive bottled water (nice to be not up-sold so quickly into the evening) when we were also ordering wine and other soft drinks. I was still eating the noodles that surrounded by entree when my main was placed on the table and the entree plate whisked away - with no words from the wait staff. There was also no interaction with the wait staff either at any time, yet they were ‘efficient’ but like a factory assembly line is efficient. I’m also taking into consideration different cultural approaches and I can’t help but feel they were more interested in clearing the table and setting up for the next, whilst you are sitting there with your starter. Their brief appears to be motivated by $, rather than making the customer feel welcome (which I don’t think is their fault in any way).

I’m not sure if I would recommend this place - sure the food is really quite good, to the point of very good - but if you wanted to take someone or your family out for a birthday celebration etc, being pushed out the door, whilst your wallet gets lighter doesn’t make it an all round nice evening.

Other reviewers have also said the price per dish is on the high side - I don’t agree, I think it’s reasonably priced for what it is.

On that note, I expect restaurants to make a profit, but it’s not so nice when it’s so obvious it’s at the expense of other things.

I’ll probably go again (not sure), or maybe just get takeaway, but if I go, it will be with an understanding that it will be a short night, as there won’t be any break between courses and hope that we get the table lottery of being out of the setting sun.

PS: I didn't vote 'thumbs up' or 'down' for this restaurant - the first time I've not voted either way, for the reasons highlighted above.

Edit/Update: Recently dined here again, just a couple of weeks after the review above, and the pace between courses has obviously changed. The server asked if we wanted a break between entree and main, and whilst it was still quick, it wasn't anywhere near our earlier experience. As per our review above, others may have felt the same way we did, so they may have just listened to their feedback, which is commendable if so. .

Great food but very small portions. Very nice venue, great food and service, just very small serves. Overall a pleasant experience if you're out for a social occasion rather than a 'feed'. We stayed the evening -did BYO- and felt no pressure to leave early.

Great!. Had a meal with my wife the other Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed. We had the banquet for two. Food arrived promptly, waitress asked when we wanted mains to follow. Staff were courteous and attentive and food was delicious. Nice fresh ingredients as you hope for going out for Viet. Will go back without a doubt.

Sadden. My friends and i went there friday night had our usual duck orange and spring rolls with rice. The duck orange wasn't crisp and the rice was cold. The new staff was hopless because they gave us the wrong food. Not only that they didn't even know what the name of the dish. The two happy local waitress did not assist us. One was behind the bar and the other one who always assist us with our orders was no-where to be seen. We waited 10mins for someone to ask us for another drink. It was a disapointing night espically after visiting it for the sixth time.

Not all its cracked up to be. Fantastic service, however portions were way too small (especially the fried rice). Food was O.K but much better can easily be found for a fraction of the price. Floors were filthy, glass doors were full of fingerprints and cutlery and glasses were dirty. Much more attention needs to be paid in the cleaning department - it makes all the difference.

Viet L'Amour. Our family group of 6 attended this very attractive looking restaurant on Friday. Good crowd in. Food very good, staff very attentive even allowing for several of the young people saying they were new to the place and perhaps lacked training. A very nice place, good food, good service and reasonable prices We will be returning

Nice decor and service but average food. This is a lovely new restaurant, the decor is nice and service was good. But the food was more Chinese and my hotpot 'pot' was cold! This would suggest it hasn't been in the oven like a normal hotpot should. I was hoping for a more vietnam-esey style of food, herbs, salads, etc. maybe I ordered incorrectly. Also all dishes came out with a gap of minutes in between - not all at once as expected. Staff were great after a slow start and asked for feedback. Lets hope this nice place gets better, lift the food game guys!

Great Restaurant. Went to Viet L'Amour two nights ago. Service was impeccable. I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about. The entree platter was crisp and fried to perfection. After the starters, my wife and I devoured our Duck L'Orange and the rice hot pot which was very filling. The fried ice cream was suggested by the waitress on the night so we gave it a go, and it was very good. The Citrus Hurricane cocktail was also suggested by a staff member, so my wife decided to give it a try. She absolutely loved her cocktail. Overall the night was a success, and we went home full.

10/10

Ok, so was very, very excited to finally have a Vietnamese restaurant in Prospect. Went to the opening which was banquet style and found the food very ordinary. But, wanted to give them a chance to iron out teething problems, so booked four of us to go in and really wanted to love it. Alas. The food is possibly the most ordinary I have experienced. Compared to the Vietnam restaurant in Pennington, or indeed many Vietnamese restaurants I have tried, the food was disapointing. Firstly it was mostly covered with a gelatinous sheen, which I suspect has msg in it, or thickened with corn flour. Secondly the serves are very small for the price. 4 of us ordered 4 mains, rice and Asian greens and we left the ace hungry. They are trying to market it as an 'up market' eatery, but the only thing upmarket is the price. The decor is done on the cheap (except for the gorgeous floor)the staff are abrupt and the feel of the place is hot and noisy. So having really tried to love it, we were all disappointed and won't be going again. The food just isn't good. Much better food found in ChinaTown for half the price. Sad

Nice food...but.... We were keen to try this out and were quite impressed by the quality of the food and the service. We only had main courses so can't comment on timeliness of other courses. However, we were given the right bill, but when it came time to sign the credit card, they had rung up someone else's bill to our card (for a much larger amount)!!!
We also object to being charged $9 for still water - and were not given the option of tap water. Wines are very over-priced for what you get- a $12 bottle from the shop is on the list for $38. They will lose a lot of custom if they are going to give average wines for premium prices (and $9 for water)!
We might give them one more try and see if it was just teething problems but will definitely do BYO

Dissappointed. Was really looking forward to visiting this new restaurant. From the outside the decor looks fantastic and when we arrived we were promptly shown to our table. There was plently of staff busily attending to all.
We placed our orders and had our entres but when our mains were due they unfortunately came in a staggered order. I had nearly finished my mains before the rice appeared. However not to be disheartened we ordered desserts and coffee. The coffee was served first and the desserts had been forgotten. So had to be reordered - a pain. When we finally got the bill we were given someone else's - a minor mistake, but didn't finish the nighton a good note. Probably wouldn't bother again.
