Review Del Punto - Randwick

Ash Wright
Sublime food! We had a selection of tapas and without going into specifics, each and everyone of the dishes we tried were fantastic. Lastly, the Margarita is also great and certainly lives up to the menu tagline of ‘the best Margarita in Sydney’!
Luca Vingiani
Best paella ever, full chicken skewers and large prawns in there. Suggestion! If you’re going for the paella don’t order chicken skewers nor prawns. You’ll get them in there. The missing 5th star is for the sangria which is definitely on the light side, very flavourful but not much alcohol in there. Overall a very good experience, big portions tapas (chorizo is enough for 3) and the pork belly with the pineapple sauce is divine. Best dish of the night, empanadas. Succulent and delicious, go for it
Nadia P
Great atmosphere. Food tastes great but it's a bit pricey for the portion size. Amazing sangria.
Dmitry Kuevda
Very stylish and atmospheric place with a real taste and spirit of Spain. Paella is the best in the town and highly recommended!
Sylvia Chiang
Tapas sizes with mains prices… Too busy to handle good services… Our salads was forgetten and finally we need to take away … Nice special setup but foods are too salty Hard to go back again sorry 😞

Great vibe and delicious food! It's been our favorite restaurant at The Spot so far. We'll definitely be back ☺️

The service was great, the food was delicious, the cocktails were great too. Leaving 3 stars only because we ordered the El Camino menu (the feast option) for $80pp and we were still starving after we finished all the dishes. If they increase the quantity a bit more I think it would be fair to pay that amount.
Jacqueline McDonald
Incredibly delicious meals, beautifully presented, delicious sangria and perfect service! Highly recommended!

This is our happy place My husband & I go there regularly on a date night and have never been disappointed. The food is to die for and don’t get me started on the cocktails. The staff is always friendly and it says a lot about the place that mostly the same staff has been around all this time. Don’t think twice and give them a try, you won’t be disappointed !

We were there for a late'ish Lunch on the way to the airport. Great food with lots to choose from, delicious and generous servings of yumminess. Delicious cocktails also !!! Service was excellent, friendly, highly recommend this place. ... it has it all!! Thanks De Punto. ...we'll be back! !

Great food, great service, fitted us in at short notice on Valentines Day! Only tip - Don't put your churros on top of the cream. It's so delicious but it melts away too quickly with the hot churros Still gobbled the whole plate up though hahaha

I went to Del Punto for lunch and the food, drink and service was amazing. The friendly staff made me feel very welcome and they were able to cater to our specific diet requirements. I highly recommend the Cidra Fizz - yum! Refreshing and easy to drink and the Beef Empanadas were simply amazing!! Will definitely be back soon!

Where do I start?! A simply amazing experience was had on Saturday night! Incredible food that kept getting better with each new dish (the pork belly bites, baby octopus and paella balls were especially delicious. Divine cocktails that had me wanting more - especially the coconut margaritas! Top notch service staff that knew how to have a relaxed laugh with us and were extremely personable. Manager, Leah, should be very proud of her restaurant and her staff. I highly recommend a visit and I've no doubt you will want to return! Top notch :)

If you are looking to dine out at a restaurant that ticks all the boxes this is the one. The food is exquisite with authentic Spanish tapas. Talk about a taste explosion of flavour! The cocktails are by far the best I've ever had. Made from pure ingredients (no headaches yay!) dairy free (no tummy aches double yay!)and so delicious. The staff are full of energy and bend over backwards to provide the utmost of service. A warm and cosy atmosphere makes it perfect for an intimate dinner for 2 or a fun get together with family and friends. You will not be disappointed.

After some good experiences we were extremely disappointed to be told we would have a time limit on our table last night, after we had started ordering .... we had booked early so we could enjoy several bottles of wine and a leisurely post Xmas catch up over what is great food. This is not a fast food joint but we felt treated as if it was one and it's left a very bad taste for me. Check when you book if you will have to be finished by a certain time.
Sista P
I love this place.. It's by far my favourite place to eat.. Food is amazing with many healthy yummy options which is always a bonus. Although I must say El Punto has the best margaritas.. I have travelled many places in the world and they are still my No.1.. to die for..

Our new fave! Great atmosphere, great service, great food and great cocktails! U should go! The pork belly is AMAZING!

We both enjoyed it. We had no booking . Saturday night....Just walking. The lady was very nice and polite she told us to wait for a bit. While we were waiting we chose our drinks. Then all was quick. Nice food. Not expensive. Nice atmosphere. Even with the bill they give you complementary homemade shot drink. How nice is it? We were very happy with our choice. Highly recommend.

Never disappoints. Great food, great service. I have only 1 request bring back the flourless almond cake.
Paul-Benjamin Ramírez Carlos
This was a great dinning experience, the ambience was great and the food spectacular. The lamb, paella ballls, fried fish bait dishes were muchos ricos and the pork belly was awesome. Definitely coming back for more.

We recently had a large group booking at Del Punto. The food was delicious and way more than everyone could eat. The service on the night was fast and responsive.. Leah and the team went out of their way to help and also organised a special menu for guests with dietary requirements. Overall we were most impressed and felt very special and looked after. My guests all had a great time and we can't wait to go back. Thanks again everyone at Del Punto!!
Bryce Dickes
It was great from the greeting to desert. Wow! Five Stars!
Sandra Da Vinha
Great food and atmosphere. We had a wonderful night
Roxy
Beautiful setting. Wide and varied menu. Friendly staff. The duck crepes were delicious and the perfect size. A great range of options for sharing plates. I'll be back soon to try the famous churros.

This place is spot on - best Spanish in Sydney. Paella was like velvet on my lips - pork belly was exquisite and I like to think of myself as a connoisseur of pork. Can’t speak highly enough of this place! Book in advance - no shortage of patrons.....
Ted.
A hidden gem in Randwick that serves the most amazing food. The friendly service make you feel most welcome. A place you can take that special guest and know they will enjoy it. Spanish tapas was delicious. We will definitely go there again
Albert Murdiono
This is an A grade spanish restaurant. All the food we ordered for dinner were great. Paella was superb, pork belly was unbelievable. All the rest were top notch as well. Price was reasonable, better make a booking for dinner time.
MM03
Not a fan of tapas usually but love this place! Food is amazing, service is great and it’s so cosy and ambience is on point. Would also recommend for a date. We over ordered last time and couldn’t finish our food - make sure to try the meatballs and pork belly. There’s also veggie options for our veggie friends. Can’t wait to go back but make sure to book as it’s always busy!
Anna Crabtree
Fantastic food! We had the Camino buffet at the ridiculous price of $55 per head. Not a single bad dish on there. Service was great. Decor is wonderful as the walls are painted like streets in an old Spanish town.
Coogee7
How is this place 3.5/5? It's an incredible, cozy buzzing spot with generous portions and the best cocktails around! Cannot recommend it more highly - perfect before a movie at the Ritz or after work cocktails
Scott Bensley
Generous meals sizes and a great place to celebrate special occasions. Never tried Spanish food before and I was very happy with the experience.

What a peach! My mother-in-law is currently with us from Spain, she was suitably impressed. Ambience and service is second to none and don't get me started on the food! Brilliant! The Romesco Beef eye fillet is to die for. I'll be bringing my wife back for a cheeky date when the MIL departs!
Lucy Sewell
I couldn't fault the very friendly service, food and particularly the cocktails ! The cocktails are absolutely delicious and best of all never had a headache !! :) Loved our visit to Del Punto and have recommended the restaurant to all my friends !

Spent an amazing night here celebrating a loved one's Birthday, and it was one of the best night's I've had in a long time! The food was of the highest standard and so incredibly delicious. The wait staff were warm, friendly and gregarious and couldn't have been more helpful. The atmosphere was buzzing all night and everyone in the restaurant seemed to be having the best time - which is what you want to see when part of a group in a celebratory mood - but it would be equally as lovely for couples. The interior design was beautiful and authentic and really enhanced the experience. Thank you Del Punto for a magical evening :)

What a lovely experience! I just love that place. It felt like I escaped to Spain for a few hours. The atmosphere is so authentic and the food was just amazing! Their wine list is impressive and their churros con chocolate are to die for! Take me back now!! It's already on my "must do again" list for my next trip back to Sydney!

The menu was varied and absolutely delicious. The staff made our night an extra special one and even though they were very busy, met our needs. The décor was gorgeous too and added to our experience. Would thoroughly recommend Del Punto for a great night out.

I just love the food at Del Punto. Tapas is great! Delicious in every bite and a great selection. The cocktails are also amazing. Love the decor and cosy atmosphere. Don't miss a visit next time you're in the area.
Cathy LeCerf
Do yourself a favour! Amazing food and service. We couldn't decide on what to order so left it to the wait staff and it was all spot on! So delicious! Great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!!

We have been coming here since we moved to Sydney over a year ago. Always serving delicious food and cocktails with a great atmosphere.. Staff are friendly and the Cidra Fizz is amazing!
Roxanne Groebel
Amazing! Wasnt expecting the portion sizes to be this big since its tapas. We totally over ordered but so worth it. Standouts were the slow cooked beef empanadas - OMG! But every dish we got was so delish. And the lychee white wine sangria was so fresh and yummy! The service there was beautiful too, very friendly and generous staff. We got our sangria on the house kos they were so busy and it was a little slow to come out. Couldnt fault this place.
Gaeth Al
cramped restaurant for a big group and the awkward shaped tables didn't help either. The food was good. Pretty standard though. We had coffee after and it was SO BAD... I didn't take more than a sip

avoid the bat - come straight to del Punto - staff welcoming, margaritas just great & friendly customers. Hugo77 below must have missed the point (del punto) - Im back!

Flavoursome meal & very attentive service eventhough it was a full house. This place decor is so lovely has a lot of characters and warmth, u could easily spend hours here as they also has a small bar area with wide range of cocktails too.
We had a girls night out and instead of sitting in 1 restaurant we opt for food crawling at The Spot Randwick. We chose Del Punto as our 3rd food place, we had the Duck Crepes (lovely, just perfect amount of duck, sauce & attractive plating), Tumbet (looks like lasagna, it's layer of veggies goodness in yum saucy on an oven baked dish so yum and it's veg so it's healthy right? haha that's what we keep telling ourselves as ate many different food from different restaurants last night) and white sangria (not the best sangria I've had in sydney unfortunately). And when we paid the bill they came with shots of port what an AWESOME idea (instead of the old-choc-mint thing) ! Definitely will be back and bringing my other group of friends.
Anna_rose4888
So impressed!. Great vibe, very relaxed and warm. The food was delicious. Well seasoned and good portion sizes for tapas style. Lamb was perfectly cooked and tumbet was amazing. Two people well fed and wined for around $120.

Rude, Don't take your kids here !. We booked a table here for 5pm on a Saturday evening as we thought we could have a nice meal with our family . We had 4 adults and 4 kids. It seemed to b family friendly as they have a kids eat free promo on a Monday night from 5 which I read on Facebook ,so thought it would b fine for children to dine here. We thought we'd get in early before the restaurant came to life . When we arrived there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant , so far so good , orderered our meals . 1 of the kids banged their head on the table and had a bit of a cry about it , as 3 year olds do . 2 mins later we were approached by a member of staff and asked in exact words if "we could keep him quiet" . I'm sorry I found this totally rude and inappropriate . It was 5pm With no one in the restaurant apart from 1 other couple , he wasn't running around causing caos , he hit his head and was upset . Regardless if he hit his head or was just having a minor meltdown over something , I don't feel that it was appropriate to be approached and made to feel like we shouldn't be in this restaurant because we have children . . We got up and left ...... Don't take your kids here , it's definately not child friendly !

So happy with our meal. I went with a big group of my friends to try this place out! We were so happy with the food and service...Defiantly would consider going if your after an authenic spanish experience!
Nicky
Not what it used to be ! Over priced food, a miss under standing with our order and the Manager argued with us and was really rude ! Tasteless meatballs , under cooked octopus very disappointing !
Xindalu1
Ordinary. Overpriced food. Quality ok. $5 for a paella ball and $5 for a small chicken skewer.

Not what it used to be. We've live locally and have eaten here several times in the past - it was one of our favourite local restaurants. Recently there has been a name change although decor has remained the same. The biggest difference however was the food. Disappointing, dull and over priced. 3 plates of tapas and 2 drinks each and the two of us walked away still a bit hungry but with not much change out of $100. First up we had meatballs - can't remember what the Spanish name they gave this on the menu was but they were served in a lovely smoky sauce. Chorizo dish was oily and lacking flavour. Worst dish of the night was gnocchi - 4 flavourless over-sized lumps of gnocchi, 2 asparagus spears and a price tag of $25. I'm sorry to say that we are now looking for a new favourite restaurant at the Spot.

Took SOO LONG. I remember I ate here last year and I was horrified by the service. The atmosphere was nice although it was a little crowded, we waited I would say 20 minutes for our entree which wasn't that bad considering the amount of people. For our main courses we waited OVER AN HOUR at which point me and everyone I was with wanted to just leave, we complained several times and always got the "I'm sorry it's coming soon" response, when we did get our food we were
Not very impressed with it as it was simple dishes and they shouldn't have taken over 1 hour. At the end one of the staff members offered us free churros (which were cheap anyway) and that's how the night finished. We were all angry and none of us will eat there again as the food was mediocre but the wait was horrendous!

Almost melted .... So tonight was a warm evening in Sydney. We were seated at an alcove in the window and the air conditioner was directly above us. I was already feeling soggy when I asked the waitress about some A/C. "Well, you know, it'll blow out into the room and won't really blow on you." Yes, but eventually the whole room will cool down, and it can only be better than it is right now. "But it'll drip on the person sitting here (indicating a seat at our table)." We'll take our chances. "How about I open the door here (indicating a door to the side of our table)?" Won't that just blow out into the restaurant like the air conditioning? Which is it? "I'll just open this door for you."

I gave up. We all gave up. Coupled with having to sit melting, the wait for service was particularly irksome. The food was decent. But I won't be going back because when I walked out of there tonight, the hair at the back of my head was drenched, all my clothes were wet and I was exhausted from an unnecessary evening in an airless, overheated room with whimsical service (at one point we were trying to order and the only wait staff we could see was busily artistically arranging wine glasses on a shelf .... veeeerry slowly. With her back to us. This is basically the story of the evening I just spent at Del Punto.I have too few years left to me to do this again any time soon. Certainly not through the summer. And after being rebuffed re the air conditioning by the waitress with the touch of superiority to her tone as she refused to cool us down, I will not go there voluntarily ever again.

Dissapointing. Initial service when we walked in was good. It was early saturday evening before dinner rush. We oredered chorizo and prawn skewers with chilli oil, scallops with a pea purée and the gnocchi. El Bulli was probably our favourite restaurant and we enjoyed every bite of every dish in the past. On this occasion however, (most likely due to the spillting of the partner owners and the change of name, change of chef, management and whatever else) we left so dissatisfied and annoyed. We thought we were in for a delicious tasty meal they way it has been on every other occasion. Food.needs.seasoning. And being told that the gnocchi is the same and even better was a total lie. To me it was like 4 flavourless pillows of something that reminded me of mac n cheese from a packet. But less salty. Scallops were pretty good however can't compare to anything as we never had them there before. Skewers were very average. Chorizo had a strange flavour and the prawns were overdone. To wrap this up we waited about 15 mins for the bill ( $ 85 down the drain) asked again and got passive aggressive back talk from the older blonde maitre d. No tip for you love. Was at spanish fly last weekend , 2nd and last time there as the food is flavourless, but now del Punta is in the exact same category. Average and disappointing.

Would not recommend or return. I also agree with the other reviews. Staff are friendly but lack any form of waitstaff experience.
We are big fans of tapas and the food was average at best. $17 for 3 button mushrooms (literally 3 button mushrooms!) and over $25 for the small size of paella which we were stressed was very generous in size and would be adiquite for my 6"1 partner and our son because the next size up would be too big. (And they charge double for the larger size) 30mins later we were given a 1inch deep bowl the size of his hand, our 5yo son ate that as his meal alone and was still hungry.
We left unhappy having spent over $100 and unsatisfied and hungry. We walked up the road and got burgers. I would never recommend!
Simone
Just got punted out for no apparent reason.
Said it was RSA but we were just chatting at the bar.
Patrons since the Surry Hills opening treated like drunken blow ins.

What's doing?
Galren_nz
Poor value for money. Although the staff are polite they lack any wait training or common sense. Food was generous (not sure if they understand what tapas is about) but plain and poorly cooked. The decode is great but I would look elsewhere
Jessica Lea
Waitresses were lovely and the atmosphere and design of the restaurant was beautiful. The food however:first dish:salt, second dish: salt, third dish: salt seasoned with salt...if I am going to pay $15 for 4 bits of asparagus I expect more than three dishes of salt.... definitely wont go back after the chef got pissed off at us because we wouldn't eat his bowl of salt.
Mobile User
Food was tasty but i agree with other reviews that it way too salty! I must have drunk 3L of water on my return home. Also, although we were served by seemingly friendly waiters the food was brought out super quick (not necessarily a bad thing) and overall it felt like we were just a dollar sign to them. We were interrupted numerous times (by various waiters) & quickly picked up (the obvious hint) that we were being rushed. I appreciate that it was a busy Sat night but three times (!) we had to tell them that we were still eating. Our bill was brought to us without being requested and no sooner had we eaten our final mouthful (& begun to finally talk) before a waiter came over and politely kicked us off the table ( insincerely telling us "I dont mean to rush you" in the very same breath!) We had literally just finished eating our ($87) meal. Lucky for them we aren't slow eaters. The experience ended so swiftly that we both had indigestion as we walked off. Despite El Buli's seemingly cool exterior & popularity I could definately not recommend it as a relaxing, intimate or romantic spot for those wanting a relaxed date night. I got the impression they are relying too heavily on their reputation and may at some point get stung if (unlike almost every other restaurant) they don't allow you the decent curtesy to have some time after a meal to enjoy the dining experience. In some ways you could liken to ElBuli to a fast food chain. We live fairly close by and were home in under two hours from departure!

Reminds me of an episode of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. Had dinner on a Monday night. It was a painful experience. I agree with some of the other reviewers after reading their bad experiences with this restaurant.. The food feels like its been frozen for ages. The meatballs are dry, salty and hard. Jamon Iberico as advertised is NOT Jamon Iberico! The snails are the only tasty meal of the night but it is still salty and oily.
The wine we ordered was quite disgusting and we abandoned it after a few sips.
Service was good and the food came out fast. The staff was smiling and nice. However decor is pretty bad and dirty. There were cobwebs hanging from the light fixtures and the seat pillows were dusty.
I would not return to this place!
Hugo77
Service slow and quality not up to scratch. We came here with pretty high expectations.

However, we were disappointed overall from several fronts.

Being from a Spanish background myself I could tell that they had cut corners and not delivered the real quality Spanish cuisine as you would expect when eating in Spain.

On top of this, the staff were quite rude and service was slow and overall atmosphere very pretentious.

The wine portions were also very small - quite unusual for a Spanish restaurant in Sydney as they normally tend to more on the generous side in terms of portion size.

The price was very expensive with small portions such that when I left this restaurant I was still hungry.
Daniel Farrell
Would not recommend going on a late Sunday afternoon, the food came out far too quickly and it seemed as though it had been reheated - maybe from the night before? Not worth the $70 for 3 share plates, salad and 2 cokes. Service was great but food not so much. Hopefully it was a once off.
Sincat05
Went there today but very disappointed. Ordered the empanadillas, love the pastry but the filling was so salty. Ordered the mussels, prawns in tomato chilli garlic, all of it are salty, tomato salsa base is tasteless and watery. A truly disappointing experience.
Michael B
This reminded of the Tapas I had in Barcelona- delicious! Great sangria, too.

Horribly Salty!!!. I frequent El Bulli in Surry Hills fairly frequently but this time, I decided to try the branch at Randwick.
The ambiance did not disappoint. I wish I could say the same about the food and the service.
Every dish was over salted to the point that it felt like an attack on our taste buds! We could not taste anything and it felt like we were taking mouthfuls of seawater with every morsel!
It started with the Aioli served with white bread. The worst was the delicate and flavoursome dish of Gambas Ajillo which was so terribly salty that the dish was anything but delicate or flavoursome! The mushrooms, I would have normally devoured without sharing, felt like it had been doused with a couple fistful of salt.
In the end, I simply gave up eating, it wasn't worth pursuing an experience that was so unpleasant with all 5 dishes that we ordered.
To add salt to injury (no pun intended), our bill was the wrong amount only to be informed by the waitress that the vintage was no longer available, hence they offered the same red wine but at a higher price because it was from a different year. Is this an illegal practice? Shouldn't the customers be informed of the price before the wine is served?
We were terribly disappointed by our experience here. Honestly, GIVE THIS PLACE A MISS, go instead to the El Bulli in Surry Hills where the experience is at least something you can crow about.
J M
Gone downhill, not sure if the place has changed hands? Salty, overpriced. Made to see like you're on a conveyor belt, get in, eat, leave.
Better places in the Spot offering better service and better value for money.
Gabriele
It doesn`t convince me!!. I`ve been many times in Spain and i actually grew up next door, and i wander if any of the chefs in this restaurant has ever been there. The menu is all spanish with a lot of traditional dishes, but the actual making of them is another thing. I really hope i went in the wrong night, but as of today my result is that a lot of the food we tryed was just wrong.
Meet balls really dry and way too salty, the grilled chorizo in apple dressing was not good quality, 12$ for 4 stuffed chilli straight from the jar, the slicd Jamon Iberico........c`mon that`s not Iberico. It didn`t even see Spain with the binoculars that prosciutto. The churros hard and dry with a BROWN strawberry on the side.
I have to say that the gnocchi were really nice........ops, gnocchi are not spanish.
Adam Cogan
Spanish for lunch with @sharingminds. The potatoes with heavy garlic sauce is being decimated by my girls
TK
Crowded and quite noisy but if you don't mind shouting the food makes up for it. Lots of good little morsels brought out promptly and washed down with a wonderful rosy smooth sangria. The house special "El Bulli potatoes" were a particular favourite. The chicken wings were dry and disappointing but a dish of garlic snails were buttery and tender. My partner enjoyed the moist, earthy morcilla (black pudding). Churros were a little too crisp for us but served with a lovely dulce de leche and cream. We had about five tapas dishes and a jug of sangria which came to $35 a head for three people. Perfect finishing touch - the bill came with three shotglasses of raisiny port on the house. Would definitely go back.
