Review 169 Cafe - Randwick

Great service! There was a very slight issue with my meal and they were so happy and accommodating to sort it out, despite it being very minimal. (Butter on toast - slight dairy allergy) Excellent quality for a cheap price. A true hidden gem of the eastern suburbs! Excellent vibe and atmosphere created by the staff. Great coffee! I will certainly be back.

Do uou like vegan bowls or want to try a yummy one? I highly recommend visiting Cafe169 for the best vegan bowl I have tried to date - which is not only healthy, but delicous as well. Laying on a bed of quinoa are nutritious veg, fruit and legume including lentils, spinach, avocado and chickpeas. Squeeze on a slice of lemon for a tasty and filling meal. There are meat options if you prefer however I have not personally tried any. #wholesomeaf

Free WiFi, tasty food and great service! If only more cafes were like that. I came in with 2 kids and they were quick to serve us and allowed us to sit even after we've finished eating. BLT on Turkish was delicious. Kids meals were affordable and wide ranged. Outdoor seating available too. Will definitely be back!

Look. It's a nice enough place. I must say the wait staff were lovely and helpful. With all of that said.... I don't like to complain so I didn't when i was there because I was hungry and in a hurry. However, in my book, it's not ok to serve a bacon and egg roll that must've been on the pass for ages because it was dead cold. On top of that, the crunchy bits were egg shell! I picked out what shell I could find and ate it. Spoilt my day though. Such a shame because it really did look like other people enjoyed the place.

Had a large chai latte which I enjoyed as it was such a chilly day, but it was rather diluted. Kids enjoyed their babycino and hot chocolate. The avo smash was not bad (probably should have asked to add rocket on top which the next table did) and the chicken wrap from the kids menu was tasty, generous with chicken and veggies and great value. Pancakes looked delicious but were just ok. Overall, it was good value. Could use an Entertainment Book voucher too. The cafe was very busy so the wait for food was longer today (about half an hour), but service staff were friendly and helpful.

Friendly and attentive staff. Beautiful food and superb coffee (and I admit Iā€™m your typical difficult to please, Melbournian coffee snob!). If I could use more positive adjectives without sounding over the top, I would! You catch my drift ;) Pictured below is their signature 169 Smoked Salmon & Avo on toast. Delicioso!

My favourite cafe in Randwick! Ever since I started working in the area I've come to 169 regularly and I highly recommend them. The staff is extremely lovely and welcoming and really know how to be creative and treat their customers. Love your work guys and see you on the regular!

I have been coming in and out for a while and am now a regular, best coffee in the Randwick area. Dee and her staff are amazing and always friendly, everyone should come here and try for themselves.

For what I was served in pancakes I could of gone to Maccas. Fritters were doughy and chewy. Nice coffee, friendly staff but was not happy with the food.

I always feel like 169 is a secret . It is unassuming but the food is fresh delicious and promptly served. The coffee is always great and the price is very very reasonable. I Don't hesitate to recommend it

best coffee and best people (staff and customers )

Really lovely staff. Had a quaint little play area suitable for small kids. Made a custom croissant on request. Would happily come again

One of the best cafes around the area, a good hangout, with kid friendly back section. Staff always look after me and I keep coming back because coffee is excellent.

Good coffee, mediocre space, below average food. Got a simple grilled chicken avocado sandwich. Chicken was thin and dry, flavour was not there. Would not return :/

Places with wifi are my favourite!! If you need to study, drop by 169 Cafe :) Staff could be a little more attentive but still very friendly! Atmosphere was nice and relaxed.

I just got a soy latte and a peanut butter slice. Latte was good, slice was average for me. Would like to come back to try their lunch menus next time!

Delicious food - we had the vegan bowl with haloumi and poached eggs with avo and bacon. Very friendly and efficient service too. We will be back.

Some friends and I made the trip up to Sydney from Melbourne and had a look on Zomato for a good breakie spot. Being from Melb we naturally have high standards when it comes to brunching. I remember the coffee being perfect! Almond milk was super smooth and did not split or taste sour in anyway. The smashed avo was pretty good however portion was so tiny (as you can see from the photo) I left hungry which is not okay. The rest of the menu looked good though and my friends enjoyed their meals despite the small size. I would recommend stocking up on a few extras on the side if you choose to visit!

Found this hidden gem in Randwick - my neighborhood!

It looks like a small local cafe from outside, but in fact it is a large and cozy decent cafe with wide range of brunch choices.

We ordered The Club sandwich with fries on the side and a Mushroom Stack on the special menu. Both tasted incredibly nomz! Besides the sandwich was too thick to stuff into my mouth, I actually have to separate the 3 layers of sourdough to 2 and 1 (and later found out having 3 layers together was the best taste in the world cause the sauce goes well together so freaking much). I'm lost of words, definitely going again on the weekends.

This food was above average but not great. The coffee was average too but I like how it was presented. I like the friendliness of the staff and the ambient were the perfect for Sunday morning.

Breakfast burrito was massive and yummy. Also ordered an Iced Chai Latte which was not on the menu, but the barista said she'd give it a shot and she nailed it.
Insta: @voraciousventures

Cafe One Six Nine in Randwick has been here a long time, but a staple in the area. Breakfast options include bacon and egg rolls, avocado smash, breakfast trifle, gluten free millet porridge, smoked salmon brunch, brioche french toast and more. I ordered the eggs benedict with chive hollandaise. I selected the half size (great that they do offer this). They also have a lunch menu and food to go like pastries and brekkie rolls. Toby's estate coffee, a favourite of mine is the beans for they use. I ordered a latte which didn't have latte art and I was disappointed as the person sitting next to me had a beautiful love heart in hers. I also got an English Breakfast tea, loose leaf, too weak for me. A good breakfast, not outrageously special but enough for the day.

Love this little cafe, one of those great little finds you keep going back to, because the coffee is good, and the bacon and egg roll is even better. Very chilled out, with a courtyard out the back to sit in the sun. Win win.

Great little Cafe I just found. Lovely fresh food, cosy environment. Lovely almond milk coffee. Salmon Brunch was delicious and just a great light lunch. But enough to fill me up. Very happy. Love the Chick pea and Chorizo Bake. Good amount of spice.

Dropped in for lunch on a lazy Thursday afternoon. We had the avocado smash and poached eggs, smoked salmon and a basket of chips. Drinks were a choccie milkshake and a dirty chai.
All good with excellent friendly service from Callan and his crew.
Nice relaxed place to chill out in.

Footnote - also highly recommend the corn fritters which I've eaten previously!

One Six Nine is a good local cafe for a weekend eat or drink. Varied menu and happy, friendly staff. Easily one of best cafes around Randwick.

Average. Hit and miss. Been there 3 times and 2 of them were disappointing. Last time the poached eggs were undercooked with lots of clear goo oozing out. Previously the lunch sandwich was pretty small, good for a light lunch but i was starving and expected something at least average sized for the price. And both of those times the service wasn't great, girls seem scattered like they're off in another world. Once even made me laugh because she was beyond belief scatty, kept forgetting stuff, walking to wrong tables etc

This place has drawn attention the moment they opend up 4 years ago for a reason... or a few reasons - very good coffee, very good service and even better food.

Absolutely AWFUL!!!!. I was in Randwick for the morning so I decided to look up urbanspoon for where to eat, and picked this cafe because of its rating... but I have NO IDEA how this cafe has such a high rating because it was terrible. The coffee was bad, to start with. It tasted like dirty water. The brownie, which the waitress recommended, was also very odd tasting. It was unpleasant and came straight out of the fridge - it was ROCK hard and too cold. I couldn't even get my fork through it, so I had to pick it up and try and get my teeth through it. Lucky I have strong teeth. I ordered the smoked salmon, avocado and egg half size portion. I like to start every breakfast with coffee and a treat so thank goodness for the half size portion. Also because it was so bad, I wouldn't have finished a full portion. Firstly the egg was nicely poached but it came with a chunk of EGG SHELL!!! The dish was completely unflavoured and tasteless. I don't normally add salt and pepper but for this one I had to, amply. The avocado came as one piece. What a lazy kitchen; I realise this dish isn't called "smashed avo" so I didn't expect the avocado to be spread on the toast but they couldn't even be bothered to slice the avocado. The whole dish just screamed LAZY. Just whole components put on a plate with no care or love for food coming across at all. NEVER coming to this cafe again.
Little Eats Sydney
A suburban favourite with established and consistent dishes the Eastern Suburbs families coming back for more. From coffee to light snacks to meals one six nine cafe never disappoints. And when the sun shines there is always the courtyard.

The cafe is surprisingly spacious. Cool photos graced the walls showing local vistas...making us a wee bit homesick for the east...but only a wee bit!

I love it when you get a marshmallow on the side as an extra treat.

One Six Nine Cafe seems to be settling in with it's Spring menu and there's plans for a courtyard out the back which will take advantage of the warmer weather.

One Six Nine Cafe has now opened for business which I spotted back in June being promoted as Sydney's Best Cafe ā€” not long after the sign actually changed to Randwick's Best Cafe hehe. In any case let's hope it becomes an asset to Randwick's eating scene.

Best breakfast. I come here at least once every fortnight. The eggs are delicious and I've tried them in every way, the coffee is great. The fries are a must try and so is the fresh watermelon juice, delicious!

Great cafe!. We were catching up with friends for brunch and as we had a pram, i wanted a cafe that was spacious and child friendly. From the outside the cafe looked small but once we went in there were tables available that had space to park our big pram.

Staff were all very friendly and the menu is well priced. My husband tried their smoothie and they were happy to make me an ice chocolate frappe (not the coffee they had on their menu). My husband and I both opted for their baked beans which came with feta, poached eggs, chorizo and pesto with two slices of bread which was delicious and for $13, I thought it was great value.

There is an area in the back for kids to play and with well priced menu and great service, i will be back!

Everything you need. I visited with my family and all were very happy with the choice. The coffee is great (Toby's Estate), the service cheerful and prompt and the food was generous in portion, well presented and top quality. There was seating aplenty in the quieter rear yard. The interior was neatly decorated, warmly atmospheric though noisier with echo and the clatter of cafe / kicthen noises... quite like most other cafes!

A wondeful venue and certainly worth another visit :-)

Had brunch here today. Served by a warm and lovely waitress who asked plenty of questions about our recent city2surf jaunt. Ordered an English breakfast tea and pancakes. Taste of the pancakes was good but it came covered in canned berries and ricotta. My husband had a large flat white (good coffee) and the special which was corn fritters. Great flavours and fantastic bacon. Huge portions. Would definitely eat here again.

Up there with the best in Sydney by far!. I come here for coffees throughout the week as I only work around the corner. I came for breakfast with my Mum and girlfriend on Sunday and despite it being busy we were still looked after really well. The value for money is unreal (smoked salmon eggs benedict for $15.00!) and the portions are huge. Coffee is always consistently good and the staff are always up for a chat.
Callan (the big boss man), is constantly going out of his way to do things for the local community and often runs fundraisers for various charities. In my opinion one six nine is the best cafe in Randwick/Coogee/Clovelly areas, also in my top 3 overall in Sydney.

Great! Came here on a Sa.... Great!

Came here on a Saturday morning after looking at the previous reviews.

The coffee is great, food excellent and the service is good. Although the service was good it was a bit slow as the place was very busy. Also we were seating in the back courtyard, which doesn't quite have the same atmosphere as the indoor area.

Overall I would recommend it, but get in early!

Great value. I often have breakfast here as the cafe opens at 7:00AM - perfect before my early shifts. The salmon brunch is humungous and excellent on taste. The coffee is probably best in Randwick.

Love this cafe - it's the best cafe in the Randwick/ Coogee area. Surprisingly, despite offering quality food, it still manages to be far more well-priced than the other cafes of such caliber. The coffees are very good too, and the service excellent.
Goldentrevally
I really like the food here. The bacon and egg rolls are well toasted and come with fabulous runny egg and generous crispy bacon.

Delicious Toby's Estate coffee. Eggs Benedict was really tasty and on grimy toast which I love. Best thing you can order full serve ($14) or half ($10). And choice of salmon, ham or mushrooms which I haven't seen before. Good idea.
Callan Hamilton
Great value for money. Been here a few times and food is always great, this time I had a bacon and egg roll on turkish with rocket and relish, it was delicious. Coffee was exceptional. Think it was Toby's Estate. Love the fact that they are using bonsoy.

Cafe 169. Heard this cafe was good! Took my daughter there for a quick lunch. Chicken Schnitzel and coleslaw roll was their advertised special and recommended, it was a tiny turkish roll in the middle of a large plate, it would have been 9cm , that would be $1 per cm, that was it, what a rip off!! The woman who served us rude. We both left still hungry and said we would never go back.

Cafe 169 - thumbs up!!. Corn Fritters have been the special over the past couple of weekends - very tasty, light & yet filling! (with just enough sweet chilli in the sour cream to give a little bite to it)

Cafe 169 has become my favorite in Randwick. The staff is friendly & helpful, the food is consistent, tasty, & good value for money. The plate reflects what the menu says, & it's always well presented.

Callan's Hollandaise is second to none. I've spent many a weekend over the years trying to find one to come close, & have not succeeded.

You will now find me there most Saturday mornings. It's a nice routine when you know that the coffee & food is up to expectation.

Great Fresh New Cafe. Visited this new cafe One Six Nine and was very pleased with the experience. Good fresh food, love the free range eggs and organic bread! Will definitely return.

Coffee with a kick for a change... a welcome change from the average Jo.

Great to see someone doing something different in Randwick.
