Review Vitaly - Randwick

If you want to be transported to Italy in one mouthful of food this is the place to visit! The dishes are made with authentic flavours! Pasta dishes are so bold and beautifully presented. The woodfire pizza is like no other in the area. It tastes proper! Long before I did a shoot here, I have been a customer and have never been dissatisfied! šŸ‘ŒšŸ½

OMG! This is the best pizza Iā€™ve had in all of Australia! Iā€™m from an Italian background so I know my pizzas and Vitalyā€™s wood fired pizza is so perfect I canā€™t believe it. The dough is absolutely amazing and they are not stingy on the toppings like most other pizza places Iā€™ve been to. Itā€™s just the right consistency of everything. I live in Los Angeles but originally from Canberra and after stumbling across Vitaly last month Ive come back multiple times when Iā€™ve been in Sydney because the pizza is so good. The margarita and tartuffo pizzas are an absolute must they are my go to. The gnocchi is also perfection! Also Iā€™ve had gnocchi at many Italian restaurants and none come close to this. They are so soft and just melt in your mouth you donā€™t even have to try to chew and thatā€™s when you know they are good!. The flavor is perfect in both the 4 cheese sauce one and the Napolitana. Iā€™ve recommended this place to all my family and that means soMething because Iā€™m picky at restaurants because I know how to cook good so if Iā€™m saying something is perfect then it must be really really really good. Definitely recommend Vitaly to anyone!!!! The staff are also really nice and friendly!

Beautiful little traditional Italian restaurant. I had the spaghetti meatballs and a Pinot noir. Wholesome food, the meatballs had a bit of a kick to it which I really enjoyed. Super friendly staff made me feel very welcome. I can see why this place gets busy.

Really good food at reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and helpful. Patrons were spaced out well and the staff could be seen sanitising tables after diners had left. I had the seafood stew and it was delicious.

Delicious food that gives you a hug. We came back for the second time tonight and our warm and friendly host (the owner) remembered what weā€™d ordered the previous week, went above and beyond with personalising our order and generously brought us a Motherā€™s Day dessert. The food is so full of flavour, fabulous wood-fired pizzas and consistently mouthwatering. This is now our new local, canā€™t wait to come back again.

Love this place! Great service. I dine alone often, so they made me the kids pizza how I wanted it. House red (Rosso) was smooth, so I had a second for dessert. Rocket salad perfectly balanced with a light Balsamic vinaigrette. Jess was a great server. I love that the woodfire oven is out in the open. Best crust-their chili or garlic crusts are amazing if you just want something to complement their other main dishes. Just GO! Or I usually order online now, but I had forgotten how nice it was to dine in on a weeknight.

Classic family style Italian restaurant in Randwick. Go here when your hungry and order pasta as the portions are enormous. The food is nice and tasteful. The pizzas šŸ• are made in a wood fire oven and good quality. The staff is friendly and helpful and meals are served very quickly. If you like a classic Italian dish you will definitely like this restaurant.

The food is amazing. But the service... It was like I was sitting with people who don't recognise that their only job was to impress the customers. Maybe this generation has forgotten the importance of a job. I reckon absolutely get take away. 5 star for the chef's. None of the table could rate the food any less than 8/10.

I was very impressed with this restaurant when I had dinner there recently. The service was outstanding as was the food and I love the fact that you can byo wine. I had the Vitaly Special pizza and it was excellent...the blend of hot salami, ricotta and honey a clever combination. The rocket salad was generous and the panna cotta with berries a perfect treat. The music was also a welcome addition to the night. As a local resident I am very happy with this restaurant and will return.

Just had dinner here for our first night in Randwick on our girls trip and oh my goodness what an incredible meal! Penne prawn vodka, didn't know what to expect, not a huge fan of prawns or asparagus but had to give it a go. Amazing! Best meal, decent size, gorgeous little restaurant, lovely young girl who served us. Absolutely love!! Thankyou for an awesome meal and a lovely evening! ļæ½ļæ½

FOOD TYPE
Italian

FOOD QUALITY
Four of us dined on a wet and wintery Sat night in June. Being the Queenā€™s Birthday long weekend, they had a few drinks specials, so we availed ourselves of a couple of 500ml glasses of refreshing, Stella for a reasonable $8 each, while the ladies stuck to the non-alcoholic coke. For starters, we ordered two salads: the Rucula ($12) and the Italian ($15). The Rucula was a basic lettuce salad with slices of pear, while the Italian had the mixed lettuce, tomato, capsicum, red onion, olives, cucumber and bufala, which is a white mozzarella cheese. They were both generous, tasty and nutritious salads with just the right amount of dressing so as not to overwhelm the flavours. But unfortunately, that was the highlight of the night because it was downhill from there. For mains, I ordered a ā€œNormaā€ pizza ($24), with eggplant, cherry tomatoes and ricotta salata cheese, my friend went for the ā€œFour Cheeseā€ pizza ($24) while the ladies choose the grilled chicken ($27) and the garlic prawns with vegetables ($25). My wifeā€™s garlic prawns were dry and tasteless, while my pizza was so burned, as you can see from the pics, as to make it almost inedible. Of course, I should have sent it back straight away but, having waited almost an hour for it, I ploughed through. My friends pizza was also burned at the outer, but not as badly as mine. The grilled chicken was the best dish of the night. The meat was tender and succulent and nicely complemented by a serve of seasonal vegetables.

ATMOSPHERE
The place was about half full at its peak at about 8pm; so the atmosphere was reasonably lively, and it wasnā€™t a complete flop of a night. Dimmi are offering a 30% discount on food, so I suspect that this is whatā€™s pulling in the crowds. (because it ainā€™t anything else). The decor is warm and quite homely with timber floors, low, mood lighting and interesting pics of Italy on the wall. The pizza ovens are at the far end and in the middle, is a colourful and exotic bar display. This location has seen many Italian restaurants come and go over the past couple of years. When we first started coming here about a decade ago, it was the dreary ā€œOld Castilleā€, it then became ā€œMade in Naplesā€, who offered $20 ā€œPizza Nightsā€ i.e. all you can eat pizza for $20, but they obviously couldnā€™t do the maths because that soon bankrupted them. Then followed ā€œIBrigantiā€ which also didnā€™t last long, but at least they spent some serious money upgrading and modernising the place, which is how it still is today. Then we had ā€œBenvenutiā€ which survived less than 12 months. Now we have ā€œVitalyā€, which, if my instincts are correct will probably also not last long unless they lift their game.

SERVICE
Staff were pleasant and friendly, but woefully inefficient. I had booked ahead, using the online booking facility on Vitalyā€™s own website. I must have omitted to include the time that we wanted to dine, because within a hour or so of making the booking, a lady phoned me to confirm the booking and ask what time we wanted the table reserved for. I figured that that that phone call would have been confirmation enough of our booking, even though I never received the promised email. But I was wrong, because when we arrived at the appointed time of 7pm, they had no record of the booking. Annoying. But we neednā€™t have fretted about it, because there were plenty of available tables and the maire dā€™, a pretty, smiling young lady, offered us a nice large table in the middle. The wait staff seem untrained and were not really properly attired. They also lacked even basic knowledge of the dishes. We had two servers: both young lads, who were very courteous and polite, but too casually dressed: one in shorts, the other in jeans and T shirt. Not the kind of attire to engender confidence. Our drinks order came out fairly quickly, but then followed a tedious 20 minute wait for the salads. Once the salads were finished, another 20 minute wait before the ladiesā€™ dishes came out. They had just about finished theirs, when finally, about 15 minutes later, the pizzas (one at a time) finally arrived. Clearly the pizza chef left them in the oven too long; so we lost out both in terms of the quality and the waiting time.

COMFORT
We sat at a table for six, which afforded us ample room to fit everything. The upholstered chairs are firm and comfy and one positive about dining here in winter is that itā€™s heated, to just the right temp, making it quite warm and cozy, even on a chilly, winter night. Thatā€™s rare for a Syd restaurant, the vast majority of which simply donā€™t cater for winter dining.

MENU
The plastic menu is well set out and easy to read, even in the dim lighting.

TOILETS
The toilets are at the back, past the pizza ovens. They have a strange configuration, with no separate male and female ones, just a long bank of basins and four unisex cubicles, of which, only three were working. I always find this arrangement a bit disconcerting. These toilets are a holdover from the previous owners, who installed them, but now, they look a bit tired and neglected even though they canā€™t be more than three or four years old. Having one out of service on what is probably the busiest night of the week (Sat) seems a tad neglectful. There was plenty of soap dispensers, but the 1980s hand dryer is well past its use by date and should be replaced with something more modern, or how about just hand towels?

ACOUSTICS
The wooden floors, wooden furniture and low ceilings offer virtually no sound insulation when it gets busy, and even though, on the night we dined, it wasnā€™t particularly full, near to us, was a table of rather boisterous and rowdy diners and that just made it too loud to be pleasant once they got into their stride after a few rounds of drinks.

COST
We used our Ent Book voucher for a 25% discount up to a max of $30. That kept our bill down to $120, for two beers, two cokes, two salads and four mains.

BOOKING
Only necessary if you take advantage of Dimmiā€™s 30% discount deal. If they can only half fill the place on a Sat night, canā€™t see it being to hard to get a table any night of the week without a booking.

PARKING
We found easy parking outside on Avoca Street, where there are no evening restrictions.

SUMMARY
On the whole, a disappointing evening. Service was slow, our booking had not been recorded and the pizzas were burned.

Delicious pasta and must have Woodfire Pizza.
Great range of Wine and Beer options.
Friendly service.

Incentive is the Pannacotta, which is too good.

I highly recommend this place
