Review Chao Praya - Randwick

Rhys T
Quick service. Food smelled so good and delicious. The portion for the deep fried soft shell crab could be bigger for the price charged. Other than that all was good.

Chao Praya is the oldest Thai restaurant in the Spot (hence my loyalty). The staff are always very friendly & routinely check to see if you need anything during my dine in experiences. The sign of a great restaurant, is that they are consistently very busy, with dine in customers- especially other Thai diners!! The food is always, fresh, well cooked & delicious!! I highly recommend dining at Chao Praya - you won't be disappointed!!

A local Thai restaurant at The Spot at Randwick serving classic thai dishes. They have good value lunch special at $9.9 or a lunch set $12.5 where you choose a meats, fried rice/Curry rice or Thai noodles with a entree and a soft drinks. Food was alright here but probably not spicy and salty enough for me. Otherwise it's a great place to dine if you work around the area.

A nice Thai restaurant in the Randwick Spot that offers a wide range of Thai dishes at a great value. The have lunch specials for only $9.9 and a lunch set (one main with one entrée and one soft drink) for $12.50. There are also many choices of Entrees and I liked the Marinated chicken breast wrapped in fragrant pandan leaves (Gai Haw Bai Toey).

I'm a regular ay Chao Praya because their food is delicious and the staff are friendly. They're always obliging with gluten free requests which is a must for me and my family.

I ordered Laksa with rice noodles. Was given wheat noodles. I returned the meal requesting rice noodles. Internet waitress tried to tell me the rice noodles were in tne dish. I told them I don’t eat the egg wheat noodles. I waited 20 minutes and was delivered a bowl FULL of rice noodles with no Laksa soup. By this time I was hungry and annoyed. When I told tne waitress I think the chef was annoyed I returned the dish and sent me a bowl full of rice noodles, she said he might think your hungry. Needless to say it was obvious they do not care about providing people what they ordered & they treat customers with no respect. I won’t go there again.

I usually like the laska from this place, but this time when I tried, it was so sweet! I don't know why they add so much sugar in a laska!! If it was a pinch to balance the taste, it was fine, but this time, it was like a dessert!

This place has been my goto takeaway/home delivery Thai for years! The food is always fresh, tasty and hot. I won’t be changing anytime soon.

The chicken lacked seasoning. The satay sauce was bland and watery. The oyster sauce crispy pork belly was rather ordinary. The veggies lacked substance.

The service was really friendly. I ordered off-menu (Pad Prik Khing with chicken instead of pork belly) and they were totally fine to oblige. The only problem was that the sauce came out very watery, which is a shame because the chicken and green beans were plentiful and cooked well.I visited Chao Praya on a recommendation from a colleague. There is a good chance they recommended based on the previous management, as another review seems to indicate this place has changed hands recently. Hopefully things improve because it's a great location and good service.

The Food now is not good ever since the owner changed and I was also charged the full menu price even though I was eating during lunch the fried rice the rice was too soft

Very fresh seafood, just the right taste.

Went for a few times and the fish dishes we ordered were very fresh and nice. Highly recommend.

The stir fired dishes of veggies , pad Thai, are just the right taste - it’s a shop that the taste is right right not salty or too much which makes you feel very comfortable after the meal.

The beef curry was a little bit disappointing though, as it wasn’t rich and tasty.
Not the best thai place, there are better ones just down the street. Peanut sauce almost seems diluted and egg noodles are like from a pack.

Love this place, it's a very casual dining with lovely staff and AMAZING FRESH Thai food.

Chicken wings, papaya salad, Thai beef salad, Tom yum, soft shell crab, pad Thai and massaman are all very very tasty.

GO!

Came here for lunch during the week. It was relatively quiet at the spot and this particular restaurant. When we walked in there were a few tables being occupied. The service here was rather curd for a rather non busy lunch hour.
I have been here in the past and it was ok. However, the service and food must be a but of a bit and miss here. The blue monkey next door was a whole lot better but they were shut for lunch so that's how we landed here.
I ordeted their laksa and my friend ordered pad thai. My Laksa tasted like diluted red curry that had noodles dumped into it. Lunch suddenly became lifeless.
The locals must think it is ok, for the restaurant had been here for a while. I don't know... I beg to differ.
Delicious and well-priced Thai food in The Spot, Randwick. The service is very friendly and efficient. Prawn dumplings were fresh and delicious, and both the prawn hot plate and choo chee curry were great.

I had a great meal here. A searingly hot tom yum prawn soup - exactly as I asked for - followed by a very good duck red curry - great authentic and nuanced flavor and plenty of duck. A tiny wine list but what they've got is good and it's BYO too. Decor is great and the service is very fast. Only criticism would be that the desserts are a bit limited - no black sticky rice for example.

Another excellent Thai in "The Spot" restaurant precinct. Service efficient... Food great... We had mixed entree, beef masaman curry, coconut rice and roti. All on point!! Changi beer $5.50 and food prices also really reasonable. Was super busy which is a good indication it's good!!

We had the crispy pork with long red peppers and pad see ew with beef. Portions were good and the pork was nice and crispy but there was just too much garlic everywhere. The garlic was too overpowering and really detracted from the usual Thai flavours that you expect from these dishes.

Choa Praya is my favourite destination for Thai when I am in the spot at Randwick. Great place to have a quick meal before the movies. Recommend their green curry, makes me feel like I am back in Thailand.

Decent food and authentic decor. This place used to be a lot busier but I think Thai Riffic is the main star of the show in the Spot these days.

BAD. WORST SERVICE. I will never be returning back after dealing with one very rude waitress. Food is average and there are better Thai spots around the area.

First of all, for starter, we ordered Som Tum with soft shell crab. Som Tum is a green papaya salad with carrots, coriander, spring onion, shallots and cashew nut with thai salad sauce usually consisted of fish sauce, garlic and palm sugar :) It was a refreshing salad with its tanginess ^^

Chao Praya Thai restaurant is perfect for your everyday Thai fix. They also cater for vegetarian diners. One of their interesting items on the menu was their green curry salmon. It was the first time I had curry with salmon, and it was beautiful! The fact that it was priced at under $20 made us felt a lot happier!

Our last main course of the day was Masamun Beef Curry. We usually try to find this dish when we go to Thai restaurant because it is possibly the mildest curry of them all.

The food was good. The portion sizes are pretty big. We made the mistake of ordering two starters and two mains. We really only needed one main.

Waste my time!!!. Since change the owner and all staff member the food getting worst everything change and take long time to get my food. Some of other customer walk out with out having food. Won't come back again!!!
Hayley
Shocked to read about poor service and food. Perhaps they have gotten rid of that staff member as I went tonight and was greeted politely by not just one waitress but THREE. The food was delicious and I found the staff to be polite and friendly, with quick service.
Sarah
Worst service ever. The lady yelled at me which was extremely unprofessional and they have now lost a loyal customer!!!
Pop.bang.kaboom
Rude service and bad food. Recently went here at lunch time and politely asked for the chicken laksa. The lady who took my order was very rude and did not care at all, even though I did not ask for anything special and simply ordered a regular chicken laksa. The laksa itself was TERRIBLE, 90 percent coconut milk and thick and flavourless, if I wanted a can of coconut milk poured over noodles and dry chicken I could have done that myself, needless to say I was very disappointed. There are so many better Thai and laksa places in the area, please don’t go here.

Never again . Was told both the whole fish and the fish fillet were barramundi - chose the fillet . What arrived was fish mcnuggets deep fried and battered . When asked about the barramundi fillet was told it was basa . My unhappiness was not understood . Too many good places to have such crap.
Bye chao praya

Been going here for 10 years and never had a bad thing to say, great food & great service.

Really rude service. Average food. Poor English. Will not be returning. With so many Thai options at the spot, this one is definitely not worth a stop.

Declining quality of food and services. I've been a regular customer for a year now but the quality of food is declining, especially the size of food is unbeliveably small.

Second of all, the male manager's service is so poor every time. Their English is very hard to understand - not their fault but then they use this as their advantage.

There were a few times they charged me extra without telling me until they arrived at my door.
But I still went back because there aren't many choices in Randwick for convenient and quick takeaway food.

Since then I started picking the food up by myself. Recently, they have missed one of my orders and told me that my meal is not a "lunch special" and charged a normally $7.5 lunch as $16.9 with rice. If there was a misunderstanding when they took my order I completely understand. But all the male manager did was accusing me and DID NOT even apologise or show the slightest sense of remorse.

I swear I'll never go back there again.
Never ever.

P.S. The thai restaurant next to Chao Praya is much cheeper and tastes average just as Chao Praya, I recommend going there instead.
Jesse
Yep pretty good prices, fantastic angl-Thai. I just go here for the vegetarian friendly curries

Impossible. I have been to Chao Praya for so long I couldn't place a date.

Been a regular takeaway customer the last 6 months with many nice meals.

Tonight, one of the worst ever, I couldn't cook that bad; dry meat, greasy noodles etc. Disgusting.

And attitude when I ring to complain.

Never ever again
Juju
Apart from the prices thus is very average. Service often terrible. My meal arrived after my group had finished and mainly consisted of raw onion. The food can also be very salty.

A regular lunchtime favorite. Located in a restaurant hub around Randwick Ritz Cinemas, Chao Praya is the only one of the Thai restaurant that opens every day for lunch. It is the one that people in the know will recommend. They are a casual informal local Thai place, with tasty food, and good portions.

When I want an inexpensive good local lunch meal, I come here. I'll usually have the green curry with either chicken or beef.

For dinner, they can be busy, but they have a large dining area out back, that you cannot see from the window.

The Competition: Thai Not So Terrific.
Sure, for dinner they have 'competition', but I'll simply say this. Thai Terrific, on the corner, opposite, is no longer Terrific, (In 2006 it was, but that's a long time ago) and their staff can be abrupt to the point of rude, and either unresponsive, or unable to speak or understand english. Their portions are very small for a Thai restaurant. Interestingly, their sister restaurant in Cronulla is exactly the same!

If you want to catch a meal after a movie, and want to have Thai, then Chao Praya is the one I recommend.

Okay... so firstly, it's always packed (the sign of a good restaurant). Secondly, the food is fab. I mean, i'm a very picky eater but i can honestly say that i LOVE: The vegetarian spring rolls, Pad Thai, and Pad See Ew, which is particularly delicious. My family often go to our local Chao Praya, or go home and eat the meal in relaxed bliss. Thank you, Chao Praya for making my restaurant experience as plesant as possible!!

Whilst the atmosphere is informal, chao praya produces the best Thai food in randwick. Prices are very reaonable, and the servings are generous.
