Review Coco Cubano - Randwick

Kowshique Mallik
Poor taste. Nothing out of the ordinary, infact very ordinary. Felt fed up halfway through the food. Not bad, just too simple. Taste could be improved but a good bang for the buck place since there are often offers and free coffees that make things more justified.

An interesting place for a coffee or food. Some great choices served in informal surroundings with a distinctly Latin flavour. Staff are friendly and helpful and the coffee is a great Cuban blend.

Ambience and service was agreeable. I got the southern fried chicken burger with fries as a quick takeaway lunch; decently priced special of 13 dollars. The chicken being relatively juicy and nicely balanced by a standard slaw was nestled inside a milk bun. The coating could have done with a deeper golden colour and more of a crispy texture. Chips were reasonable well fried, having nice craggly edges to give a decent crisp (they could have done with more seasoning though). Overall, an average fried chicken burger that overlooked one crucial element which could have made it stand out.

Expected to receive similar to the picture displayed or at least according to the menu description, but received something else! So not like what the food has displayed! They said the salad contains kales and so does the picture but the food that i received only has coleslaw! Paid $15.90 for a rabbit food, wow. Totally not recommend their salad, OVERPRICE and does not conform to their promised standards.

Nice burgers & chips. However chips could be cooked a little bit longer to make it perfect as the inside part you can tell that it's slightly under cooked.

I love the decoration and style of the place. The food and the variety are very good.

Last time I was here was over 2 years ago. I don't remember much from back then but my experience was at least ok. This review is about my experience here today, 7th of Aug 2017, 12:36 PM. They seem to have pretty good deals at lunch time. I got a charcoal chicken burrito (see photo) with $10. It's a decent size and relatively tasty. Took 10 min for it to be served at my table, which I think is OK, all things considered. I did find all the notices placed around the restaurant asking customers not to consume food/drinks from other venues. While I would agree with them asking at least one person in 3 to order food, their stance seems to aggressive and I think this is losing then more business than winning (-1 🌟)

Really nice atmosphere and plenty of different seating areas to choose from. Plenty of shade in outside seating area. Food was pretty good with the PERFECT chips. Their coffee was done pretty well too. Would go again but not often cause it is a bit pricier than other options on campus.

This is conveniently located on UNSW. I've been a couple times for lunch because I found the lunch specials to be good. I like to cubanito but it's a little small. The burger is pretty average.

Service is hit or miss at lunch time if you dine in. Sometimes they are slower, depends on staff.

The food wasn’t great at all when compared to the first time I visited. I ordered chicken Skewers, two of it were of same portion and the third was half of it.The Southern fried chicken burger was less than average. I didn’t like the overall experience. Please improve.

We went there at 7.30 pm on Friday night. Even though it is written that they close at 9.30, we weren't served and we were extremely disappointed. Coco Cubano was one of my fave place but never go again!!

Nobody makes the soy hot chocolate like these guys :) It's my fav spot on campus to chill and be cozy at the same time. I love the amount of effort they've put into the interiors too. Kind staff!

Students frequent this establishment quite a bit since it’s on campus. It’s a little pricey and the food is average, but on a Tuesday with 2 for 1 prices it makes for a good pit-stop!

Get your act together!! Absolutely appalling service. Ordered a chicken burger....how long does it take to make one? The place isn't busy!! Understandable if it is but it wasn't. The portion of chips as well seems to be diminishing and the price increasing.
Please sort it out.

I used to be this cafe a lot, because it's on campus, and I need a nice place to study, the coffee is pretty average, service is ok, but coffee art is so poor, seriously

For a UNSW student, I don't venture much onto High Street side. However, when I did that time, it was with my 180DC team and we needed a quick feed. The price was higher than your typical uni budget allowances, but I ordered the chorizo sandwhich for $10ish and was quite satisfied with it. The coffee was mediocre and nothing worthy of note. Although slightly pricey, decent place for uni students who are willing to spend a little more, with less noise in the vicinity.

Get their burger. Please, please get their burger. This place is great - its kitchen opens late (10pm I think), its bar opens even later. The burger option is just delicious - full of flavour with a great beef patty, melted cheese, etc etc. It's not super fancy but it's a nice classic option for a lazy dinner that you'll regret later, you fatty, but love now. Trust me. I actually have wondered back down here all the way from gate 9 (a trek in my opinion) at 11pm just for it but sadly their kitchen had closed. Would I go here again? Definitely, yes, but let's be real, I should be eating healthier now.

Average. Mediocre. Overpriced. You will struggle to find anything to eat if you are health conscious or looking for a meal under $16. Sweet potato chips are flavourless, soggy and served with a stingy amount of Parmesan cheese. Coffee average.

I come here every now and then for lunch and noticed they recently revamped their menu. There's outdoor and indoor seating. Service is not bad but nothing special worth noting. You have to order and pay at the counter first then they bring the food to you. It feels sort of like a cross between a fast food restaurant and a normal restaurant.

Food is ok but I've also been to the Coco Cubano at Central Park and the UNSW one definitely has smaller serving sizes - same price though!! I've tried the nachos at both and the Central Park one was big enough for 2 people whereas the UNSW serve size is for 1 person. Another example is when I ordered sweet potato wedges at Central Park, it came with aioli but at the UNSW one, you have to pay for aioli. Each outlet must be run differently.

To be honest I don't think it's worth it. I feel like I go there only because there's limited food selection around UNSW.

I spent most uni days at Coco Cubano last year for meetings or coffee with friends, but I was disappointed today by the new menu (I've been overseas for a few months). I ordered the prawn salad for $17.50 and was shocked when I was presented with a small plate of lettuce leaves and a skewer of prawns on top. This was not filling at all and not ridiculously tasty either. Their portion to cost ratio is ridiculous and while I may still meet people here regularly, I won't be spending money on their food for a while.

Taste/presentation - 0.5/2
Portion/cost - 0/1
Service - 0.5/1
Interior/vibes - 1/1

This is a great place to study with good vibes, but the coffee is very, very ordinary (go around the corner to Maze!) and the food could do with a revamp.

This place is a little bit of a conundrum, service was a little sloppy and slow, food was above average but pricing is unjustifiably higher than normal.

Wasn't a bad place, just has question marks

Good place to hangout with friends near UNI!
Great happy hour deals! The sweet potato fries and wedges are good and economical munchies. The nachos are decent. The mini brioche chicken burger were good value for money as the tapas were for 9$ during happy hours, but they are a little sweet. The coffee is average.
The decor is quiet nice and relaxing.

Firstly there is no denying just how good the food is. The pulled pork slaw burger is amazing, the perfect amount of spice and refreshing slaw, simply delicious! And the chips are so thin and salty with the most amazing chilli aioli! The only negative is the price as a uni student, however the quality does do it justice

I've never written a review before but I felt it was necessary to write one about this place because it is awful. If you want over priced food accompanied by horrible customer service than this is the place for you. I would not even go back if I were paid to go there. Who ever does the hiring should really reconsider the attributes they look for in an employee.

Pricy. Toooo pricy!! Food tastes only ok. not worth the money. rib off

Always disappointed. I've recently returned to dining here after a long stint away due to terrible customer service and over priced/ below average food. But i really shouldn't have. Some of the menu items are ridiculously priced and they all seem to be things that shouldn't be (i.e. $5.90 for a lemon lime bitters?!)

Customer service and cleanliness seems to have hit an all time low as well. Today I had my drink brought over to my table and the waiter merely glanced at the dirty plates and cups sitting on the table. I then approached the counter to ask for a damp cloth to wipe the sticky table and very dry serviettes were handed to me instead of the "Take a seat and I will come wipe the table for you" response that should've occurred.

I'm not hard to please, but simple service standards should at least be in place for such an over priced restaurant.

Because these bad boys have not been named incorrectly! Super crunchy on the outside and massively mushy and soft on the insides, the aioli and chilli powder were just a bonus! We could have swept this bowl clean had we not already demolished so much food.

First thing you notice about Coco Cubano is the decor. It's hip Cuban revolutionary. Photos of Che, odd bric-a-brac and plush sofas. The menu is extensive, covering breakfast, mains, tapas, cocktails and cigars. Yes. Cigars. Imagine studying for finals with a Cuban in one hand haha.
Viv Ian
Their chips are to die for! Thick cut chips cooked absolutely perfectly. It’s so golden and crispy on the outside that when you bite into it, there’s literally a ‘crunch’. Once you get inside to the potato bit it’s so soft and delicate you’ll feel like you’re on cloud 9
Colin
Very good when it opened, it's food quality has since dropped dramatically.

Not the same as other stores.. Asked for no capsicum, gave me capsicum.

Burger had a bitter taste to it, and the patty was burnt on the outside and pink on the inside.

Less chips than other stores.

Expensive for uni students, but staff are very friendly. Food is great!
Coffee is variable, sometimes good, sometimes watery: depends on barista.

Nice atmosphere, good service but needs lights dimmed and a live Sax player on a Saturday night to give it a laid back but funky atmosphere that makes you want to stay all night.
