Review Rolld Vietnamese - Randwick

Matt Kang
The renovation took ages! so I thought the results would be an amazing, life-changing food experience. I was wrong. Today, I went there to have lunch with my wife. We shared a "large" pho. It was the smallest Pho I've ever had in my life. We ordered some rolls! all we could taste (and see) were the noodles. Great location! great decor! great music and vibe! TERRIBLE food, terrible pricing. If I want a legit Viet experience, now I'm just gonna walk a bit further and go to pho pasteur down the road. Never going back to Roll'd
Sammy
Their pho tastes like it is made with a 'pho' stock cube that you would get from the asian grocery ( I know as I've tried them at home when desperate for pho). Don't waste your time on eating their dishwater 'pho' and just walk the extra 3 minutes down to Da lat. Very small serving and not a small price either!

I've been to Rolld about 30 times since it opened a few months ago. And about 80% of the time, I'll come home to open up my brown paperbag to find my order wrong. Sometimes I'll get seafood spring rolls instead of vegetarian spring rolld. Or find a cup instead of a bowl when that's what i ordered. Or ask for extra chilli and find none. Or I'll get overcharged and only realise it later on. It's soo frustrating. Because i do enjoy the food served. But my orders never seem to be taken right. It doesn't help when the people taking my orders are usually not great in their command in English. If something could be done about this, it would make my experience at Rolld so much better

Food was ok . Nothing special but convenient. We actually went to the one in Westfield Bondi Junction to check out the new restaurant. I was quite surprised to find out that they don't give customer a glass of tap water . My 6 year old wanted a glass of water. The only way to get water there is to purchase one. If they are too busy , they should at least place a self service water station.

Ordered a Bahn Mi. It was awful! Not only was it half the size of a normal one I expect from a Vietnamese place, but the bread wasn't crusty and there was no mayo or pate. It was nothing like a real Bahn mi and I'm incredibly disappointed. Sticking to my local

I tried chicken vermicelli and hated it. My friend also disliked his soup. If you want Vietnamese there are other authentic options around Randwick. Try Da Lat or V Cuisine.

Excellent understated little restaurant with take away. The food tastes healthy and you can watch the cooks at work.

It was lunch time, and they were out of a lot of the food I ordered. The wait was long, service was poor, and had ask again for refund for the food I didn't get.

Whenever I think Vietnamese street food I think Banh mi thit and that is what you get here. With many different options I would caution you not to go past the roast pork and crackling with chilli. Such a fresh and filling lunch/afternoon bite to eat. Those who are hungry for more than a roll then grab some bao or a side of sweet potato fries with the chilli mayo. Roll’d is a Vietnamese street shop front located in the Randwick shopping centre on Belmore Rd. Parking is fairly easily and you have the option of eating in or grabbing the food as take away and the pork roll will only cost you $10 bucks!

Popped in for a quick dinner. They have Vietnamese rice paper rolls, a wide variety, Pho (take away style, not the long developed broth style), Bao or Vietnamese noodle salad. I always get the Vietnamese noodle salad which is a bowl of vermicelli, carrot, cucumber, mint, and a nice dressing. I got this again and I always ask for no cucumber or coriander. Was pretty close (there was coriander on it). In any case it's really, nice, healthy and easy if you're in a rush or on my case can't be bothered cooking. The lady was super nice and service was fast. They also do catering.

Love the Vietnamese rolls, they are light and filling and reasonably well priced. I wish they would open evn just 1/2 hour earlier as this is generally when I am walking past. Other than that staff are friendly and pleasent.

I don't love it. Don't entirely hate it either - it was good. Staff were friendly and the meals came out quick. Expect most traditional Vietnamese foods like pho, noodle salads, banh mi, coffee and a huge selection of rice paper rolls the size of mini burritos! (A little pet - peeved at the 'low carb' options... If you want something low carb? Eat vegan or vegetarian). <br/><br/>Ordered the roast pork banh mi which was sadly disappointing for the premium $. The roll was dry and really needed to be toasted or baked lightly in the oven to warm it up. The meat was dry and miserable as well. Stick to mr crackles. <br/><br/>The vegetarian noodle salad with fried tofu and crispy netted spring rolls was quite decent. Love the generous amount of slither thin cucumber, carrots, lettuce, fried shallots, coriander - would love to see more mint. The nuoc cham was a little too sweet for my liking. The spring rolls were quite mushy in the inside - filled with taro? Can't work it out but it definitely lacked seasoning.

I recently went to Roll'ed branch in the Airport which I wasn't very impressed with, saw this one in Randwick thought I'd give them a try. Bought a couple of rice paper rolls; low carb chicken and low carb tofu. (approx $4 each) It tasted little bland but It was clean tasting and ingredients were fresh. I can't say it was yummy but when I am on diet this would be good lunch to have for sure.
Glass Half Fit
It’s often difficult to find ‘quick eats’ in Sydney that do not serve unhealthy, fast food such as burgers, chips and fried chicken. So, when we heard about Roll’d, which serves traditional Vietnamese street food with a modern twist, we knew we had to try it out. Arriving at the Randwick store, we instantly noted how much we liked the vibe and décor of the store with patterned tables, awesome wallpaper and naked strung light-bulbs. A smiling staff member behind the counter then informed us about the menu. The menu is quite simple, (which is great for indecisive people like us), allowing you to choose from a selection of Pho (noodle soup), Bun (dry noodles or rice with toppings), Rice Paper Rolls, Banh Mi (the famous pork roll) and Goi (vietnamese salad), along with various sides and drinks. You can choose to eat-in or take-away if you’re on the go! We decide to have a feast and order chicken Pho, Bun with noodles and pork spring rolls, crispy spring rolls, rice paper rolls and prawn crackers along with a Vietnamese iced coffee and iced tea to drink.

Looks the part but misses the mark. Service is extremely slow and the food is average at best. Tried the spring rolls, Pho, vermicelli salad and chicken wings.

This place is far from authentic....the food is very disappointing. I've found the times of been there the customer service has been slow and this place is usually empty which would indicate it's popularity

Don't bother. I've been to Roll'd a few times since it opened; somehow each time I forget how bad the last time was and get sucked in looking for a fresh, quick meal. Every time I have been disappointed - the vermicelli bowl is drowned in over-sweet nuoc mam, the banh mi was in a hard, dry bun with terrible quality pork, the rice paper rolls ('soldiers') sound good but fail to deliver. I bought a few rolls the other night (barramundi and bbq chicken) and they were awful - leathery on the outside, and the barramundi/chicken was super salty; there were also weird sharp crunchy bits throughout both rolls - honestly, it was like eating little bits of glass, but I couldn't figure out what they were. I felt really ill the next morning though - so that's it, never going back!

Lots of fake reviews here ... food is so-so. Give me a break, most of the reviews below are obviously fake (pretty much all the ones marked as "helpful"). I've eaten at Roll'd a few times anyway, sucked in by the high rating here and wanting to believe it is true I guess! It's fine but nothing special, not especially tasty or fresh. But mainly I'd avoid because of the lack of integrity they've displayed by posting these fake reviews ... such poor respect for the dining public is bound to be evident in the way they handle their food, too.

I'm an advid pho eater. This place offers a westernised Vietnamese meal. Only got a few pieces of meat in a moderately sized bowl which is fine for me but it wouldn't fill a real hunger and it's they're large. Flavour is refreshing but like I said not tradition. Reasonably priced and a nice lay out. I quite enjoy there choice in music, old school jams. I'd come back to try other things on the menu but it's a pass for me on the beef soup.

I read about this place booming in the Melbourne area and was half excited to go try this new Vietnamese fast "street food". I was pretty certain I ordered Pho in a cup and a chicken roll but instead I manage to have ordered their Beef Pho and a side of spring rolls. I didn't bother complaining... plus it seems like they were using this non busy period to train new staff at taking orders... I loved the deep fried spring rolls (though hating deep fried anything is hard for me). It was the more traditional light and fluffy pastry you don't see at most Vietnamese eateries. It had a nice crunch and tasted fantastic.. The Pho on the other hand has to be hands down the worse I've had in Sydney. The broth complexity tasted weak and bland. The soup itself wasn't even hot enough on arrival. They added all the bean sprouts into my bowl already. They served the hoisin sauce on a side dish and gave a very small portion... despite having the Sriracha sauce on the table in a bottle... I'd imagine that if I bought a packet of Instant Pho from a supermarket... this is what itd taste like... definitely nowhere near restaurant quality. Are these meals to trick westerners that this is good vietnamese food.. please stop this franchise from embarrassing the good food image Cabramatta has built up...

Bland Pho. I just had a mixed chicken and beef pho at Roll'd. It was the most bland pho I've ever had - basically just chicken broth. The noodles were overcooked.

Great Value Family Dining. We have eaten at Roll'd a few times and the children are becoming more and more adventurous with their meal choices and are excited to try the clean fresh flavours. For our hungry family of 5 we were able to eat for under $80. Amazing value and we walked out feeling full healthy, nourished not heavy and sluggish.

Went there once and had bun mi... was pretty average at best,( the bakery up the road is much better value, and at least the chilli is hot there.)<br/><br/>Thought i'd give it another chance today, so had some rice paper rolls. the paper had gone hard, probably from sitting in the fridge for too long. they should be made fresh, only takes 20 seconds. the nouc mam source was really just a pre made packet of water and sugar ... again no chilli at all. <br/>Then I discovered that one of them had avocado in it. What is the deal with that...? that's just wrong....if I wanted avocado I would have gone to the Mexican next door ....I couldn't eat it so just left it whole on the plate.<br/><br/>Anyway, I doubt i'll go back<br/>for the price its pretty dumbed down , played around with (to it's detriment) Vietnamese , that is just a bit ordinary

Ignore the fake reviews. Here's how to tell if the owners are doing fake reviews....most restaurants only get a few reviews a year ...maybe 1 every few months unless they're very popular ...so if a new places has a bunch of postive reviews in a short space of time they're fake...especially if the reviewers have only ever reviewed that place and have no other reviews.<br/><br/>So shame on Roll'd<br/><br/>anyways...as to the food ....the crispy pancakes are ok but way over priced and too deep fried. $7 for a small one - you'd need 3-4 ...at other places it's $11 for a big one.<br/><br/>The cup of Pho I had was bland and also very very over-priced.<br/><br/>Let's hope the new Viet in the Spot or Matraville is better

Disappointing. I was very excited when this place opened up thinking finally some decent authentic Vietnamese food in Randwick.. But I was so disappointed when I tried their Beef pho, the soup was lukewarm, the beef was undercook they didn't even ask or give the option if you would like the beef well done.. The pho broth was bland and the usual aroma that a decent authentic pho should have was not there.. The spring rolls that came with my pho was store brought .. I don't know how this place can promote that it's recipes are traditional.. <br/>If you want a decent authentic pho this is not the place to go to.. I also tried their fresh rice paper roll that they call soldiers it was ok, not enough sauce given and for the price tag just really disappointed with the food..

Great Food, great service. Recently visited Roll'd for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The food was absolutely delicious! The staff were very friendly and helpful with guiding me through the food choices. <br/>Will definitely be eating there again.

Food is terrible. Are there and I don't know where all the favorable comments are this is not traditional Vietnamese food and it is very overpriced, the Pho a signature dish for Vietnamese cuisine was terrible, it was bland and lukewarm and no aroma of authentic made, the springrolls are not made they are bought premade as I have had them before premade and then reheated at home, the sauce could barely cover the top of it @ $3.50 a roll they could of atleast give you enough sauce to lather your roll.. <br/><br/>All in all this place is a complete ripoff and very overpriced.. Due to the food not matching the hefty price tag, if it did and it was generously proportioned and tasted good then this would be a different critique.<br/><br/>I have had multiple friends say the exact same thing and they are a mix of nationalities and palettes.<br/><br/>I don't know where the favorable comments came from, they must be owner friends and family ????

Soilders. I loved all the dishes....just delicious. My kids also said to me..."mum can we go back there". Totally recommend it for the whole family!

Bahn Mignificent. Ventured into Rolld after a long day of shopping, looking for a fresh, healthy meal to fill me up. I ended up opting for the lemongrass beef- mr bun mi, after the very helpful staff member advised me to perhaps add extra chilli to meet my need for a bit of fire. All in all, the roll was very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the vegetables were fresh and the lemongrass beef was straight out the pan and served at great temperature. Will be back for sure!

A fabulous, healthy and inexpensive place to eat!. We (my family of four) have been to Roll'd four times since it opened...and each meal has been excellent. The ingredients are fresh, the meals delicious and the variety is excellent. We even had my son's 11th birthday dinner there and his friends all loved the food. I'd highly recommend the Prawn & Pork / BBQ Chicken Soldiers and Pork Crackling Salad - yum!! Also love the Sweet Potato Fries. Such a clean restaurant too.....so nice to have this option at Randwick for lunch or dinner.

Chicken ribs & barramundi solders. A breath of truly fresh food in randwick. The Vietnamese rolls 'soldiers' were wonderfully different to any other Vietnamese rolls around. Crepes seem a funny concept for a Vietnamese restaurant but work so well. Friendly staff to help you with menu selection not that it's hard. Great value.

Fresh Clean Fast Food. Took the kids for early dinner. They loved the chilli chicken and sweet potato fries. The beef salads are full of fresh vegetables and herbs and make a great meal. The barramundi and soft shell crab soldier rolls are delicious.

Soilders. The soilders are absolutely perfect. You can taste the fresh herbs along with traditional Vietnamese flavours and eat only 2 and feel very satisfied. I could eat them every day. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The place is also very clean and funky unlike most traditional Vietnamese restaurants.

Awesome food! Everything is so fresh and flavoursome. They're using really high quality ingredients, and it's great value for money. Looking forward to eating here again!

Mr. Būn Mèe. One of my favourite Vietnamese rolls. Full of flavour.<br/><br/><br/>-----19 Nov, 2014-----<br/><br/>Roll'd Sōldíers. These are so tasty and fresh ones are always available.<br/><br/><br/>-----19 Nov, 2014-----<br/><br/>The B. I love this for a dinner. The beef is my favourite.

Came here on a Monday around lunch time, staff were not very knowledgable of the menu so ended up getting wrong thing made for us. Not expecting the best pho as it's a franchise but the pho was very bland and more like salt mixed into hot water. Spring rolls are frozen from a packet. Took around 15-20 minutes for food to arrive at our table. To be fair it is quite new but they have plenty of room for improvement!
Alexandras
Amazing service, delicious food!. You get loads of food for your buck, and the staff were friendly and helpful:) Highly recommend!
Steve
Tried the Lemongrass Beef, Vietnamese Roll (They call it Mr Bunmee), and rice paper rolls...All Very Good!. Lemongrass beef - good quality refreshing, crispy vermicelli rice noodle salad! mm!<br/>The Vietnamese roll was also nice, a bit pricey at $8.50, but heaps better than the $6.50 roll from the authentic around the corner<br/>Also had some rice paper wraps (beef, prawn, pork) All were above average and great value<br/>Good healthy feed
