Review Cactus Jack's - Redcliffe

Great little spot with good food. No complaints at all. Staff were friendly and happily moved us to a booth after we had been seated already. We had a bunch or different party starters to share.

Had to ask for side plates and cutlery, twice. Instant removal of one star. I shouldn’t have to ask for utensils or plates in a restaurant. It should be brought prior to the food. Not five minutes after. The QR code that is used to order food is a joke. You have to sign in and enter credit card information EACH time you want to order something. It just wouldn’t remember my details even after logging in. I gave up. Far too inconvenient. The ordering software needs to be either fixed or completely replaced with something efficient. This was by far the worst QR code ordering experience I’ve had. The staff and service is the only thing keeping this review above 2 stars. They were all great. The food was okay. I had the Mesquite Chicken breast which was well cooked and not dry. Chips were bland. Margarita was perfectly made! Had the chocolate nachos for dessert. Unfortunately they were burnt. Even though they were covered in chocolate. All you could taste was burnt corn chips. Even the cream wouldn’t cut through it.

What a Great Venue!! I really like how the tables are set out to cater for larger groups as well as couples settings. The food was ok..lots of options for share plates. Staff are definitely the star of this restaurant. From seating & table service right through to paying the bill.. staff were delightful.. Special mention and thanks to "Addy" (what a gem) The atmosphere throughout the venue was great. There was a solo acoustic artist playing live music . His name was Chris Stevenson we met him at the end, was a very nice bloke. His music and a few ales was exactly what we needed to wind down on Friday after a long week. Thanks 🌵 Cactus Jack's 🌵 for an awesome night.

We went there for Mother's day night. It was very busy. They had music play in the Marquee outside on the footpath, I found it would had been too loud if you had a table out there. It was just right where we were seated.Service was good, tableservice for food and drinks by waiter or by the restaurant app.Food was delicious, it could had been a little hotter. Frozen margarita were supreme.

Sunday 5 June, my friends brought me along to Cactus Jack's, it is one of their favourite restaurants, this place did not disappoint! Ribs were amazing! 😋👍 Sizzling fajitas were delish!😍 Enchilada was unforgettable!😊 Awesome customer service, ✅️enticing cocktails🍸 and delish dessert which was apple crumble (sorry no pic!) 🥧

What a great time out with my wife, celebrating our anniversary. The service is top notch. Very short wait for our delicious food to be served. Live music with the very talented Brenden Schick making it a night to remember.

Thank you Cactus Jacks for looking after our family for a great lunch. (Sorry for the delay in posting this) Our experience…. We booked with not much notice on Christmas Eve and Cactus Jacks were able to accommodate our large group on a busy day. Staff were polite and professional in adhering to the covid regulations. The menu and ordering options were explained clearly. Food was delicious 🌮 as were the cocktails 🍹and we especially love the welcoming and fun atmosphere that is always there when we visit. Thanks again Rob and Team - love what you do 🤩 (PS - you need to open another restaurant closer to our home 🏡)

Food was great, however just a bit of confusion with orders for food and drinks and food took too long to arrive. Orders for drinks got lost so had to go up to ask again after 15-20 mins on 2 occassions

My partner and I brought my son here for dinner tonight. He is severely allergic to chicken and once I told the waitress that, she and the chef there asked any possible questions and made sure he had the best dinner possible without causing his allergies to flare up. First restaurant to actually care about my sons health as much as we do! Highly recommend and will be coming here for dinner when ever we are up there! Thanks so much again!!

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences in my entire living years! The service was appalling, the staff were distracted, did not listen and got the order wrong. They clearly did not want to be there. Our drinks took more than 15 minutes to come then they brought the kids the wrong meal. They then brought ours out and the kids 10 minutes later. We ordered a Burrito Bowl when it came and it was in a few words...awful. Bland, the steak was chewy and fatty and it was a poor poor dish to serve to anyone. The waitress suggested a salad dressing, I think you need more than that love! Redcliffe needs somewhere good to eat this is not a place would ever recommend. Never again!

Atmosphere is good, it is clean, but other than that, very disappointing. I love Mexican and have eaten at other CJ's and been happy. Service was appalling, staff refused to make eye contact as they walked by, took forever to bring simple drinks (how long does it take to remove a lid from a beer?) it was not even busy, so there was no excuse. The food was just bland to say the least. Never before have I added salt to Mexican, I couldn't shake that Corona come salt shaker enough to give this food any flavour. There was 18 of us and only 3 people were happy with their meal, so it was not just one dish. The one staff member that was slightly attentive came across as though she had far better things to be doing and never once smiled. I really don't understand how it could go so horribly wrong. :( I hope for their sake things improve, because Enchiladas didn't survive along that strip and they at least had decent food.

I wasted $89.00 on one of the most tasteless meals I have ever had the misfortune to eat, my grandson said his meal tasted like cardboard too. I have eaten Mexican food in many places, but never this bad, it was sooooooooo bland we couldn't finish our food.

Service was fine. Breakfast was fine. The morning spoilt by the coffee SO weak, worse than Pablo instant coffee!!! It's no wonder all the other breakfast outlets are full to over flowing!!! If that's the best u can do on a Sunday morning.... We will check with the staff as we walk pass as to whether the coffee is still as bad and just keep walking if they say it's still crap... Thank god we don't have coffee at the end of the meal when we eat there at night..
Sami Sirintawn
Wow, could not believe how bad the service was here. Not once did we see a smile, get an "enjoy your meal" or "how was your meal?", even after we had obviously not eaten half our ribs (that tasted like it had been slow cooked for 2 weeks). The food was terrible. Can make better mexican at home with left over mince and a roast chook! Also tried to explain at the counter that we had been given the wrong meal with the reply "oh....well that's the meal you got". You would think basic customer service would be taught. Will not return, will not recommend.

Amazing!! Love coming here. The staff are lovely and very accommodating! We had a booking last night for my best friend's birthday and I tried to organise a last minute birthday desert for her, problem was she is coeliac and there were no deserts they could grantee there would be no gluten - so they put together something specially for her and priced it up at a reasonable price. The timing was changed and they signaled to me when it was ready. On top of this, the food was beautiful as always! Thank you all so much for making last night so special, we will of course be back!!

Crap. First couple of times we went we had a great time and service was fantastic from the same energetic, hospitable waiter. However, this time it was the worst service I've ever had. The staff are so under trained and do not sell the business whatsoever, a real "I cant wait to get out of here attitude". No communication between staff and customer. We ordered the entree size then the meals come out large we complain about it to have the girl turn to us and say nothing else but oh well. As we went to leave there's a young waiter leaning across the front counter chatting with the chashier picking his teeth with a tooth pick directly in front of the service. Severely unprofessional. Will not be coming back or recommending. Spent nearly $200 with 3 people soo disappointing, a real take your money and run service.
Melissa L'Estrange
It was our first and last time there. We had bad service, waited forever for the food and our entreè came out with the main meal instead of before. All the meals were cold and we had arrived as soon as they started cooking at 5pm .My husbands steak was dry and wasn't cooked medium rare as requested then I found plastic in my chicken. Was expecting a lot better
Sarah Grigg
Took about half an hour to get crappy burnt coffee and half a cup of cold tea then another hour for our "breakfast" to arrive. Not only was the order wrong, it was over cooked, as salty as the sea and bread was hard. We ordered vegemite toast for our daughter and we ended up with hard sough dough with a huge dollop of jam on it. Ruined my first Mother's Day thanks cactus i dont get another one of those! We wont ever be back, neither will our friends and family.

First visit to cactus jacks. food was ready before I even finished my first drink ✔️ Didn't realize how much we ordered. Food was so good. The corn bread was amazing, and the onion strings were too. Something different. Will definitely be back.
Mary Ann Charlton
Excellent service, food was cooked superb. Thank you to all the staff for making our evening one to remember.
Karl Smith
Waiting half an hour to get your drinks? The second waitress apologised. Credit to her when asked if the order was forgotten. She didn't lie. 37 minutes for a starter. Let's hope the mains get served quick and the waitress clears the table for the kitchen to know.

Had cactus hillbilly burger ... They should change the name to a "cactus fuctus" burger very ordinary indeed $15 +... WTF??!!

Was surprised to read bad reviews on here. Visited here with a large group of people a few weeks ago and food and service was really good. Visited again last night as a couple and just as impressed.

Aw Weightier was amazing place was just wonderful love the corner reter

we went there on Saturday night, the food was crap, the service was crap, waited over an hour to be served, ordered super nachos was given the smallest serving with a teaspoon of meat and some lettuce and a bit of sauce, also ordered super chocolate nachos got some chips and a spoonful of ice cream and 2 piles whipped cream from a can ,and squirt of chocolate sauce, told the manager I wasn't  happy and she just smiled very disappointed we will never be back

After the closure of Montezuma’s at Kedron, I wanted to find a new local restaurant for my family as a replacement. I had previously visited Cactus Jack’s and found my meal to quite enjoyable. However, my family and I were very disappointed with our recent visit. We decided to order the Flag Dip for our entree and mistakenly I thought it may be like a layer dip. Unfortunately the guacamole, sour cream and salsa didn’t feel very cohesive and seemed to lack any flavour. The corn chips were also quite thin which made them taste a bit stale. My sister and I then decided to share the nachos which again were relatively flavourless and lacked a substantial amount of toppings including cheese on the corn chips. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes but overall our experience was not very satisfying.

We were seated quickly. The place had been decorated in Mexican theme. Our waitress took our order promptly. We ordered the potato with chilli beef starter which was delicious and good value for what you got. My nephew then ordered the nachos with chicken which he had been looking forward to. Our waitress didn’t speak English well so he pointed to the nachos. She asked what meat he said chicken. She then turned to the back of the menu and said this chicken is better for children. So we ordered what we thought was that chicken for the nachos. When the meal came out it was a chicken meal with no nachos. The waitress was very rude when she argued that was what I had ordered until I asked for the manager. I was very happy with the taste of the food but not happy with the service.

We had an unfortunate experience today at lunch time. We arrived, ordered drinks which came out fast, had our order taken & waited.... & waited & waited. After about half an hour I went to get a couple more drinks & ask what was going on because we hadn’t even seen our starter. The person who served me at the bar asked who took our order & when I told him he responded with “he makes a lot of mistakes” he also apologised & said he’d find out what happened. A few minutes later he came over with our drinks & informed us our order hadn’t even been given to the kitchen!!! He then asked if we still wanted it. We were starving at this point so said yes rather than going elsewhere only to wait again. <br/><br/>The food came out pretty fast but we had our starter & main all in one go due to the forgotten order, which was ok... The food in itself was pretty good, just lacked a little seasoning. The polenta chips (Mexican matchsticks) were disappointing though, a far cry from those that used to be made at the Hyperdome outlet before it closed down. <br/><br/>Sadly when we went to pay we weren’t offered a discount due to being forgotten, I asked for one which they did oblige (15% off the total) so that was appreciated. I think the potential for this place to be really good is there, just needs some fine tuning. Not sure if I’ll return.

Wow! What great food they have. Diner for 2 on a Friday night, it was outstanding in every way. We had a beautiful table hostess to serve us with tasty delicious food. We have tried a lot of different items on the menu and all rate high with us. The blackboard special was so yummy and I advise you take a chance and try something different each time you dine there, if you are not sure about what some of the dishes are the staff are always there to help you and explain the menu, just ask. Great deserts available, try them all. The place is always clean and friendly helpful staff. The kitchen staff do a great job even when its busy, the food always come out on time and well presented. My wife and I rate this Cactus Jack's at Redcliffe highly and best to get in early. Please try all the menu as they have some great dishes, you will never  know unless you  ever go. Enjoy! Thanks Cactus Jack's.

I won a $100 voucher through 99.7 radio and took a friend last Friday to Cactus Jacks. All I can say is THAT WAS THE BEST FREE DINNER I'VE EVER HAD!!. Not only was the food super delicious the cocktails were yummy! The waiter was great even tipped him he was that good. Had a great time and my friend and I will be booking back in within the next couple of weeks or even get a home delivery of their fantastic beef ribs and chicken wings. We had so much food we took some home and it tasted just as good the next day. Thankyou Cactus Jacks!

Decided to give this place one last try. Ordered chicken nachos and was extremely disappointed. Looked and tasted terrible, I could’ve done a better job myself at home for a fraction of the price. Not even sure why this place still exists, the food is disgusting.

Was looking forward to a visit since I found out  there was a location near my holiday venue. This place did not disappoint. Both my partner and I both had the chicken Chimichangas and enjoyed them, nice flavour and good serving size. Perhaps the prices a bit on the high side but worth it for a treat. Nice staff as well.

We had 2 meals for a late lunch. Both lacked any flavour and just didnt compare to any other Mexican Restaurants we have been to before...and we have been to a lot. Very disappointing and whilst I normally would not say anything to staff I did today. I daid the food lacked flavour and the waitress teplied....well you either love it or you dont. I will tell the chef as we have had a few hut and misses. Didnt hear anything else from staff after my feedback.<br/>Wont b back.

Had a relaxing breakfast at Cactus Jack's this morning while visiting the Redcliffe street market. <br/><br/>Lovely outdoor area but the restaurant itself seemed a little dark. Comfortable seating and the tables had an adequate spacing. Staff were nice as well. <br/><br/>I had freshly squeezed orange juice which is always better than bottled juice and a latte to drink. I started with a very nice granola with yoghurt and berries, a good way to start breakfast. I followed this with the Aussie breakfast which was a little cold, should use warmed plates. The breakfast contained bacon, two eggs (poached for me), baked beans, cherry tomatoes (so sweet and juicy), mushrooms, a hash brown and toast (barely toasted). <br/><br/>Michele had eggs with bacon. One of our friends had a breakfast burrito which had scrambled eggs, fries and some other stuff which he said was very filling. <br/><br/>Certainly an establishment I would recommend.

Ordered potato skins, beef nachos and hillbilly burger. Great staff. Food was excellent. Would recommend for anyone. Nice location. Will be back.

Went out for dinner to celebrate my birthday with my partner. Sat outside to take in the views of the water / Redcliffe pier. <br/>Waitress kept coming over to ask us how our meal was (4 times), which I felt was abit too much. Also wanted to clear our plates when we were still eating entree. However staff did put sparklers in the yummy chocolate nacho dessert & sung happy birthday which was a nice surprise & was a nice touch. <br/>Matchstick entree (polenta) were amazing. We shared, but could have easily eaten 1 each.<br/> Mains were equally delicious but the chilli bowl didn't have any chilli in it & in the burrito bowl it was dressed well, however the lettuce could have been taken care of abit better ( 2 pieces that were chopped up had not been washed & still had dirt on it).<br/>Suicide sauce needs to be bottled- and yes it met our expectations- it was hot! 😊 <br/>Couldn't finish shared dessert of chocolate nachos (with birthday sparklers), as we were full from all the delicious food & drinks.<br/>Cocktails- in particular the margaritas were magnificent - loved the cactus shaped glassware.<br/>Prices were reasonable & will be returning in the future.

The waitress was friendly but it took a would to get our drinks including water. The beef rib was order with sides but they came out all on separate plays making it difficult to eat. Do not order the corn bread. It was over cooked, dry and just crumbled. The cocktails were refreshing and pleasant.

Went for what should have been a lovely birthday for a friend. The entrees took forever but were okay but everything went downhill after that. The mains took so long after that that we almost lost our appetite then when they did come they left much to be desired. The chimichangas lacked flavour, the steaks were dry and if your habenaro poppers are being served as spring rolls it should be stated in the description. When we decided we wanted our cheesecake we brought, they served it on an unstable cake stand with a bread knife to cut it and mismatched cutlery. It felt like I was 19 years old in a dodgy share house, not attempting a nice dinner.<br/>Definitely not planning on returning.
Maz
Really enjoyed our meals both times we visited. I wouldnt say its authentic Mexican but worth a visit. Service was satisfactory for type of restaurant.
Ben C
Nope. Sorry but waiting over an hour for food, bland meals and jalepeno "poppers" were basically glorified spring rolls, and we couldn't get a doggy bag? What is this, 1984? The Tex-Mex scene has exploded in the last few years and I find it hard to believe you are still competing in the market. Get you house in order. Won't be back, sorry.

Hi there Cactus Jacks REDCLIFFE, I will keep it brief and in point form.<br/><br/>Mothers day. Arrived just before 10:30am.  Order was taken, received water at  11:27am.  Coffees arrived a few minutes later. One was missing. that arrived 12 minutes later.  Food arrives well after 12:20ish.  Most tables around us were doing all they could to get a waiters attention, even for a glass of water, let alone their meal.<br/><br/>I sadly watched as neighbouring cafes such as Oasis and Coffee Club turned over patrons left right and centre. They even had water and cutlery on their table in minutes, not an hour.  <br/>All we were told was that its lunch time now and the kitchen is busy, yet we arrived at 10:30am and the kitchen is trying to cook lunch orders?<br/><br/>I was so close to asking Oasis to bring us a meal and drinks.  You pissed of quite a few tables on Sunday.  I know, we all chatted.  PS i am not after a free meal.   Im a local and sure as hell wont be back.

We frequent this place for a tipple and fast tasty food we always find fresh. Favourite is the monster margarita and pepe's steak fajitas which easily feed two. Lively atmosphere, friendly service and interesting interior. Downfall is you can't book tables for less than groups of 10 during peak time.
Michal Jefferson
Not the best experience. Our drink order was "confusing" after I was told there wasn't any Sunkist left the waiter listed the drinks available and stated that "Fanta" was available. Yet when I tried to order it he got really confused and walked off. After that it took 45 minutes to get the most basic meals delivered to our table. The staff never acknowledged us except to take order and deliver our drinks/meals. Very abrupt and average.

I chose CJ's for a birthday meal. I love this place!! Always attentive, friendly service from wait staff. Always great food that doesn't disappoint! I could recommend a lot of items off the menu but I think you should go try it for yourself. <br/>P.S. It's also nicely positioned across from the Redcliffe Jetty so you can eat your delicious chocolate nachos for dessert and then go for a little walk like I do :D
Gil
Service and atmosphere were good here. Unfortunately the food wasn't. We ordered potato skins (which were flat, dry and tasteless), chicken chimichanga (which was soggy and again tasteless) and chicken tenders which were ok but still dry. Definitely not worth the price you pay.
Marjan
Absolutely worth every cent you spend! Also have a amazing waitress. Sooo helpful and polite. Always have a great deal! My favourite is spicy chicken wings and beer
Mike
Great tasting food and service was quick and accurate, even thought they were busy (Friday night). Went with a group of 9 people. The staff were friendly
Jodie
Very average, bland, yet expensive food. Won't be back

Amazing food, good service and a definite yes to a repeat visit.. Even though it was very busy (Saturday night), we had a great time and our wait was totally worth it! Food was amazing, cooked to perfection, and all staff were very friendly, easy to approach and very hospitable. This is the experience you want to repeat and share with others. Thank you guys for such an enjoyable dinner. We will be back! ;-)

Delish! Great helpful staf.... Delish! <br/>Great helpful staff, couldn't do enough for us. There was an long wait on our food but friendly staff made sure they let us know that there was a group of 30 that had just ordered but staff made sure they kept us updated on our food & made sure they told chef to put a rush on our food. It was worth the wait as our steak was cooked to perfection & everything was delicious. Mojitos & shots were the icing on the cake. Thanks CJ's crew.

Service is extremely lacking & staff need to show some more passion.. My partner & I went here for dinner last Saturday night as just a "table for two please". Arrived around 730pm (bookings aren't taken for under 10) and was told at least 30 minutes wait (even tho there were clearly empty tables for two). Were given a buzzer and told to just hang around till available. We decided to sit at the bar and give it 15 minutes to see what would happen. Time came and went so we went to approach the front staff again to ask if we could have one of the few available tables. Should have known this was a sign and high tailed it out of there ASAP. We seated ourselves after being told we could take the table, and eventually menus appeared. We ordered (were famished and had a very clear idea on what we wanted) and drinks appeared maybe 10 minutes later. Average - not great. Dinner service was pretty quick (unlike the people at the table behind us who waited in excess of an hour for their steaks with nil apology) and we dug in. Underwhelmed to say the least. I ordered the nachos - one of 7 "signature" dishes according to the menu. It was barely edible. Chips were excessively soggy, dish lacked flavour and toppings were barely there. Partner got the chimichangas - similar story. Plates were cleared (half full of food) and we asked for another drink and dessert menu. Drinks never came and we had to chase up 3 times before another staffer was sent over to just "check on what we ordered in case it was missed" and we repeated our order AGAIN and asked for dessert menus AGAIN. Drinks came over 20 minutes later with no menu. We quickly drank up and left. Seriously poor service and food was disappointing. Won't be going back nor recommending it to friends. Sad but true.
AsherKlimm
The worst place we have ever been too. Never again.. I would rather shove a cactus up my jack than eat here. The rudest, the most worst apathetic service in Brisbane. Staff would rather look around wondering what to do than actually do something. An idea...go wait tables. After complaining and no apology I was told to have a good night. Never again. We gave this horrendous place 3 tries. Definitely out this time.
AReed89
Great location and delicious food. Cocktails looked amazing although we didn't have any. Service at the start was fast and our meals came out really quick. We got the chimichunga and the southern fried crispy strips. Both were delicious. Especially the pastry bowl that came with the strips. After our mains though, the service got a bit slow and we had to hail a waiter after 20 mins of waiting just to order dessert. We ordered the chocolate nachos and the Apple guns. Both were great! It was a Friday night so we could understand they were busy. We would come back to dine and we would reccommend it. Gorgeous views of the redcliffe jetty at sunset with a nice summer sea breeze.
Jtwelling
Terrible service! After arriving at the restaurant at 7, it took 45 minutes for someone to take our order, and this was due us getting up and going to the front reception. During this time people were getting served who had arrived after us. We then waited for over an hour for our meal, before leaving as we could not wait anymore. When going to the front reception to offer to pay and explain why we were leaving, there was no apology, in fact it seems as though they were inconvenienced by our feed back. It would have been appreciated if perhaps an update was given or prior notice to the length of how long it may have been. We would have even been happy if the kids meal could have come out earlier. We were so disappointed with the lack of service that we will not be returning. This is a shame as the food is usually very good, instead this time we have left with a bad taste in our mouth.
Ian Burman
Just stopped in for a casual meal. Food was very good and Adam provided great service. Definitely a place to go if you like Mexican
Brad F
Ok service was good they where friendly. But food real average basically have no chef just kids putting meals in microwaves. The fajitas where not Mexican it was more like Chinese tasted exactly like sweet and sour chicken. The enchiladas came with 2min microwave rice you buy from supermarket and microwaved refried beans. I have always used urbanspoon but I have never written a review, but come on these places charge top dollar and simply can not deliver and satisfactory meal. It's so easy to tell that it's been microwaved it's all fused together. Just letting people know drive a little further find somewhere that takes pride in food. I will never go back!
Ladyfiend
Welcome addition to Redcliffe!. I've been twice now, ALL the staff have been attentive, friendly and engaging, not always perfect with delivery but their courteous manner makes slight oversights easily forgiven. The atmosphere is warm and enjoyable which is what I love. The food is always awesome! The wings are hot! The nachos are chocolate and the margaritas go down quickly ;) I'll be back again for sure!
Md
Loved the food, but the service was terrible. We waited 30 minutes (in an almost empty restaurant) for someone to take our order for dessert and then our drinks never arrived. It was so frustrating watching the staff walk back and forth having their conversations. We ended up leaving and going elsewhere for drinks.
