Review Suttons Beach Pavilion - Redcliffe

Location is amazing. The scenery and walks surrounding it are a must. Pavilion itself is nice and staff are friendly. Drinks are resonably priced however, the 'loaded sweet potato fries' were extremely overpriced and were not 'loaded.

We were here for a function which was quite good. Has lots of space and decent drinks and meal packages.

Wow, What a night - a wedding my wife has always wanted, amazing reception venue over looking the bay. Our wedding went perfectly within the rotunda. Food every one complimented us on. Keep up the good work. Thank you and all your staff

Excellent venue, the food here is delicious whether it be from the restaurant, the fish and chippery or the cafe. Wonderful views to sit, relax, eat and enjoy a beer or wine in a building that has so much history. Such a shame that the local council is closing the entire pavilion permanently as they consider it is too old and won't spend any money on it, truthfully it wouldn't take much. Disgraceful comes to mind.

Pretty good food, big portions and friendly service with a great view of Suttons Beach. They get really busy and popular among the locals especially on the weekend, so best to book your table before you go.

Lovely view and the staff were friendly and attentive, but my lunch experience was ruined by a missing crab claw from the $99 seafood platter for two. When I pointed out that there was only one crab claw with the sand crab I was told that I had received the allocated weight of seafood. This is the fist time I have ever had a seafood platter where one of the crab claws had been removed as the allocated weight had been reached. The issue could have been resolved with an apology but when I asked to speak to the manager I was first told that she was at lunch and I would have to wait half an hour, I was then told she was in the office and then told she have gone home. The quality of the food received was fine, if a little on the merger side for the price. Given the place is closing anyway there is little point is saying I won't be going back.

My friend Mr L. and I went out to lunch last month, and decided to re-visit Suttons Beach Pavilion. We had eaten there in mid June, and found it very relaxing, and with tasty food so we headed north again. It is a fabulous place to just sit and have a drink, with views over to Moreton Island. But we were there for lunch, so I went for the crispy squid salad ($18) for small size, while Mr L. chose the chicken schnitzel ($23) and a side of buttered greens ($8). My squid was freshly tumbled out of the freezer I would say, and seemed to have a few stray baby octopi in the mix. It was an okay dish, but not quite hot enough (temperature-wise) or interesting enough to hold my attention. It definitely needed a spicy coating to give it some oomph. I also had beer-battered onion rings ($6), which were crunchy and tasty, though I would have liked a bit more actual onion in them. There was a lot of batter, my friends.

He drank green tea while I had a glass of Jansz ($12). I finished off with a chocolate mousse ($14), which sadly I regretted as not worth the calories. The texture and flavour just weren’t right for me. I like them smooth and very dark, which this was not. Once again, it was okay but nothing stunning. Service was not particularly warm or friendly this time, unlike our previous visit. We sat at the front of the outdoor area so we had great views, which lifted our experience somewhat. Oh, and the green beans were fabulous – buttery and smoky and crunchy. Probably the best part of the meal. On our previous visit, we had had sweet potato fries ($13) which still show on the bar menu; these were just so delicious and moreish. Yep they were worth the calories.

All in all, not as good as we remembered this time. This place is multi-faceted though: they do functions, and there is a café, and a fish and chippery, and an ice cream bar, and a bar upstairs, all in a wonderful Art Deco building (the old bathers’ pavilion from 1937). And you are right on the water, which is strangely an unusual thing in the Brisbane area.

Verdict: worth a look, and a drink, and maybe a snack or two at the bar. And on a good day, the meals and service are just fine.

We ordered the battered fish of the day with chips and tartare and the battered salt and pepper prawns. Service was excellent, all staff were friendly, swift and knew the menu. Sadly the presentation was lacking being served in those annoying metal fry baskets and the tiny little serve of salad of green leaves in a dipping bowl was unnecessary. Just plate it and it will look a whole lot better. The presentation of the prawns was beautiful and the ginger, chilly, nuts etc was a delicious delight! The batter on both the fish and prawns was way too thick and oily but the fish was fresh and delicious. The prawns were also tasty and fresh but that batter just ruined the flavour. We pulled the batter off and enjoyed them. An option for crumbed would be nice, there was only the battered to choose from on the menu for everything. Atmosphere was noisy due to mouthy patrons but it was clean and well presented.

Chicken bread is tender and tested good, meat balls are a little bit sour but still good. We are waiting about 30 minutes for our food, and stuff forgot to bring the drinks.
