A busy Chinese restaurant serving dishes featured from all over Asia. Modern decor, extensive menu and large portions, no wonder there’s always a line at the door during peak hours. 😌
Their signature Mama Homemade Sliced Free Range Chicken is always my favourite. Chicken is deboned and shredded into chunky pieces, the tender meat is full of fragrant. The chicken skin has a nice crunchy texture without the fattiness. 🙂
Fried Rice Noodles with Prawns & Eggs had a generous amount of large sized prawns and was full of wok hei. I liked how they used only egg yolk to make the gravy sauce for better colour & taste. However it was slightly under seasoned but overall was enjoyable. 🙂
A great chinese place to have lunch/dinner.
My favourite is the yin yeung fried rice, 2 sauces over fried rice. A must order from the menu!
Also the duck laksa and the honey egg plant is worth mentioning as well!
Reasonably priced and going with more people is better so you can try different dishes! Portions are big as well!
The portion of the food is big. Sometimes I think it's too big for 2 people. We always want to order more dishes to share but end up we couldn't finish them all and have to take away.
Their sliced chicken is nice. I ordered it everytime when I visited. So I strongly recommend to try.
The deep fried fish fillet with salty duck egg yolk ... It's a bit dry.
The eggplant is nice. It's probably just because I just love eggplant. And I like it because it is good to serve with rice. 😋
Fast service and the food served was delicious, the stir fried beef noodles were our favourite dish. Staff were friendly, we were seated at a reasonable sized table to accomodate four people's worth of food.
Great Chinese option if your in Rhodes and don't want Phoenix. We had to wait 20mins on a Saturday night for a table for 3. Once seated we placed our orders and food came out nice and quick.
We ordered a shredded chicken dish which we were not aware came served cold and with bones. We understand this dish is very popular but we didn't like it.
Chicken fried rice in XO sauce was amazing. As was the fillet steak San choi bou and pork. Great food
I didnt have any expectations for a Chinese restaurant in a suburban shopping centre but a friend is addicted & is a regular so I have been here several times thanks to her addiction. She promised me good food & service & I sure did receive it on the numerous occasions. All the dishes are cooked well, fresh tasting & delicious. We love the wonton noodle soup which is flavoursome yet light & healthy. The chilli beef comes sizzling with an enticing smell & is tender & tasty. The prawns are firm & sweet and all the vegetable dishes are fresh. We also love their fried rice. It is on the pricier side for a local Chinese but portions are generous. Add a few drinks and you are in for a great night.
It was a Monday long weekend public holiday and we came here for an early dinner. There were already a number of diners and we were seated at the table looking out into the shopping centre. A little disconcerting when you remember you are on display to all the passing shoppers.
We ordered xiao long bao, pork and prawn wonton noodle soup and sizzling fillet steak with Chinese special sauce, followed by a dessert which was mango pudding.
The noodle soup and sizzling steak soon arrived; I expected the dumplings first but we were hungry so there were no complaints. Not long after, two stacked bamboo steamers were delivered to our table.
The food is nice, although on the pricier side for a suburban Chinese restaurant.
Service is attentive, more so than your typical Chinese restaurant.
My most recent visit to Mama's Wok was made due to boredom with the surrounding options. Having visited a few years ago when it first opened and disappointed by the quality of the food and the high prices, I went with plenty of cynicism and little hope...and was pleasantly surprised by the improvement in quality of the food. Mama's Wok has a brand new menu and it's a complete overhaul for the better.
We ordered a few simple staples. The crispy shallot cake was adequately crispy and oniony. The chicken fried rice, wasn't too wet or dry with a good separation of the rice grains and nicely smoky from the wok hei (wok's breath). Shandong chicken carried a crispy skin on the outside, the meat juicy and succulent. The vegetarian hotpot was saucy, the vegetables perfectly cooked.
Service wasn't amazing, but I expect that from a Chinese restaurant. Dishes were reasonably priced and the servings generous resulting in plenty of leftovers for a few more meals. :-) Mama's Wok has gone from mediocre to pretty good. Give it a go.
Was impressed with the singapore noodles (flat white rice noodles instead) that i ordered for lunch. it was a little more expensive than most asian restaurants ($13.50?) but considering its located inside Rhodes shopping centre, its expected.
My noodles, and my two colleagues dishes all looked appetizing, good ratio of meat and vege to noodle. What i liked about my dish is that it was full of flavor, not oily and not too spicy. there have been many times where i have ordered this dish elsewhere (in eastwood) and theyve all been a disappointment.
Mon- Thurs they have a lunch time special for selected dishes (my dish is on the special) for $10 which includes a drink. Pretty good deal. Definitely give this place a try, or at least the singapore noodles!
An enjoyable weekend dinner was had here. The shop is located on the ground level of the Rhodes Shopping Centre next to a korean BBQ restaurant.
Food: The food was served hot and the kitchen was see-through which gives the place a modern feel. Authentic dishes and many options in the menu.
Staff/service: The staff were attentive and helpful.
Dishes are in the low to mid $20 range. Will come again.
A busy place. Delicious food. Good and fast service. Always recommend if you are looking for a good family lunch. Whatever you order comes in a good quantity so you can take it away for your dinner too ;)
Time/queue: weekday for dinner, no queue but busy inside.
Atmosphere: family restaurant with Chinese Asian decoration, very nice and cozy.
Staff/service: friendly and helpful.
Food/drinks: had been here couple times, taste and presentation are good with quite generous portion. Today we order beef and calamari congee which are ok, asked for chilli slice with soy sauce too add more flavor.
Back again: for sure!
Mama's Wok is a popular family diner for locals. Nestled on the ground floor of the Rhodes Boulevard it competes with several other Chinese eateries namely Phoenix and Dumpling House. On a typical Saturday night, when the shops were closed and the walkways abandoned, there remained a pocket of activity surrounding this joint.
A casual peruse of the menu, shows the diner an impressive list of mains to choose from. While a closer inspection draws the eyes to higher than average cost of each dish. At an average of $20+ each, Mama's Wok sits on the right side of middle tier Chinese cuisine - a cuisine I should mention that boasts of affordability. We ordered a range of dishes from the mixed vegetable and bean curd hotpot to the seafood stew to deep fried pork. Suffice to say there was no criticism towards the flavours. Every dish was delicious and the common problems of oiliness and msg with Chinese food was absent.
The main issue for me was the lack of value. The serving bowls used at this dinner are very deceiving and not, in my opinion, as generous as some reviewers have made it out to be. From the photos it may seem like serving sizes are large but in reality the bowls/pots are very shallow and also charging $3 pp for rice is rather unfair. If you do the maths a group of 6 would buy $18 of rice. That same money can buy you around 10kg of rice at an asian grocery story. And for a small marginal add on cost you can produce enough rice to feed the whole diner.
Let's see. Friendly staff. Good buzz. Nice aromas. Busy restaurant and delicious Chinese cuisine. Loved the schezuan chicken and the bean curd veg stir fry. I m going back
Menu looks expensive but.... .....the portion sizes are huge!! Its enough for 2 people!!
Food wise it was pretty good, tried some noodles and the pancake, all good quality
Food came out pretty quick, ambience wise, forest impression was clean and modern but its a little small inside
Worth a try if your hungry!!
Beautiful Asian food, good service, nice location. Perfect for lunch and dinner and even better is licence. I really love it
Speedy service and friendly staff. A bit of a language barrier but the picture menus help with communication. Dumplings were great and food was tasty. Difficult to know what to order though.
Flavoursome, kid friendly, great atmosphere. Had a pleasant dining experience.
Worth trying. I didn't not expect such a restaurant in Rhodes. When I was doing shopping, I found it in the shopping centre and it was around lunch time. So I had lunch there. food is freshly cooked, and though there were quite few people there, but I did not wait long at all.
Good food nice place. That is very nice restaurant, good food good service.
Good Service and the food is lovely. I will Definitely go there again
A little on the pricey side but the portion was big. The food was tasty.
that chap called Ryan is great, you should give him a promotion. He was very respectful and served me with kindness and compassion. He is an outstanding worker and you should really appreciate what he does and how he conducts himself around customers. He is a flat-out great fellow. Amazing service from Ryan, thankyou!
Decent food for the price. Beef hor fan (dry rice noodle dish) was very authentic and generous amount of beef. My daughter loved it and asked us to make it at home. They provided her with small plastic bowl and cutlery without needing to be asked which is always appreciated.
Fried rice was a bit bland but not oily. Good amount of prawns.
Biggest disappointment was the prawn toast from yum cha menu which I bought as a treat for my daughter - not as good value as the rest, very little prawn paste topping.
However the size of the rice and the noodles dishes were very good value
