Review Rhodes Seafood - Rhodes

Bridget Duffy
The mixed seafood grill was $12 with chips salad and a drink and a was even better than when I last had it 10 years ago. Fresh cooked when you order, seasoned beautifully, and so fresh and tasty. I absolutely love the food here, it's almost a shame it's so good since there are so many other places to try but I only want to go here!

Been going here for years. Probably one of the best value fish and chips shops. Prices have gone slightly up over the years but it is still good value. $8.50 for battered fish n chips, salad and drink! The fish and other seafood I've had is mostly good and can't complain about the chips or salad either. Would recommend this place for a cheap lunch!

Purchased a grilled seafood mix & a piece of flathead fish. The seafood mix was nice however the fish was so over cooked & dry it was like cardboard & inedible. So disappointed it should not have been served to us like that, a waste of money.

Fresh seafood, small selection but very fresh. They also have a cook to order food bar, very good prices for a quick lunch like fish and chips or fisherman basket. Definitely good for a grab and go lunch after grabbing some groceries.

Great local seafood store. Staff are amazing & informative. Prices are decent and freshness has always been of high quality. Highly recommended.

Forgot to write a review when I bought it months ago, BUT the service is appalling. I ordered my food before another customer and when the chips were freshly placed in the same container where there were old fries, she decided to serve the other customer FIRST. She added more fries to the other customer and took more of the fresh fries on purpose for the other customer that was served before me due to personal friendship connection (could see they knew each other due to the greetings and what was spoken in the conversation). If you want repeat customers, don't be selfish to other customers who ordered first and choose to give them old and less fries only cause there is no existing friendship. As well as that, I had to personally ask for her not to give the old fries as they were sitting there for quite some time, and she gave an attitude. Will NOT go back there!

Grilled Barramundi superb, but the grilled tuna steak is average.

Over cooked fish. Vege not fresh...

Disappointing experience. Crumbed calamari appeared most unappetising and was not hot. Chipped tea cup, and pot that didn’t pour properly. Complained about untidy Ladies toilet with paper all over place. Unhappy to see a couple of trolleys with uncovered food just sitting in service corridor. Don’t like big screens with TV. Who wants to watch Ninja when eating lunch out at a restaurant? Not relaxed dining.

The reason I give a 1 star is that my parents and family have dinner gathering the waiter served us Cold Rice Pot. But however the food dishes was not hot enough for us. This is restaurant is unacceptable for all the Asian family & friends don't ever eat this place, it only for mainly Western and other countries.

Attended a family dinner function for up to 80 people on Tuesday 28 March from 5.30 pm. We opted for the seafood banquet menu to start off, Peking duck pancakes, ginger & soy individual scallops, then Sun Tung chicken, braised beef cheeks, sweet & sour fish fillets, fried rice, Yee Mein, braised mushrooms, fried prawns & calamari & fresh fruit & a compote of peach in jelly, I did not hear of any complaints from any of the family regarding quality of dishes or the service. It helped it wax a Tuesday night and there were not too many other diners. Overall, impressed with the efficiency & speed of the serving of each dish & the service to our 8 tables.

Terrible service. Staff don't even try to make eye contact, making flagging down staff difficult. 2 people ordered 2 dishes - sounds simple enough. The noodles came out and our waiter was taken aback that we were not sharing the plate when it was made clear when ordering we were not sharing. Waited 20 minutes for the soup. Finally got a staff member's attention and the other person asked to cancel the soup which strangely enough was done easily and under a minute.

Dinner for 7 ppl. 5 arrived together, waiting for the other 2. The waiters asked us 6 seperate times how many of us there would be. The food is great but the service is bad and the staff are arrogant. We asked 3 times for forks and they bring 4 forks for 7 ppl. We had to ask twice for chilli. We asked for the desert menu and they brought 1 for 7 ppl. No one attended to our table. The staff never asked if we needed drinks. We had to constantly call out for someone. We won't be going back.

Loved the menu and what we had yum yes we recommend the place

The best yum Cha in Sydney. Service is the only weak point. The manager was not much help when it came to dealing with allergies. The trolley ladies were friendly but also clueless about this.

Always the same trolley with fried food will pass by our side there is no another trolley will pass by our side so what we need to eat? just fired food? Terrible service with only one trolley pass by

Terrible experience today! Waited for more than 25mins to see one cart with food going past us! Made several requests to wait staff, by the time the first dish came, my kid was starving. We usually have good experiences in Phoenix restaurant chain but certainly NOT today. Very very disappointed!!

The best place to eat Chinese food and yum cha

The food trolley only goes through the central hall and we only go to the dessert trolley and eat three desserts. I do not want to go again.

Rhodes Phoenix is a big restaurant...thoughtful wait staff...good food, love the prawn toast best I have ever eaten.I wish there was a Phoenix on the Gold Coast. I can't wait to go there when I am in Sydney again.
Chee Khoo
Poor service. Staff not interested in serving. Trolleys just whizzes past and hope you don't stop them. Not many choices. Mostly deep fried. It was peak weekend on Sunday at 1 pm. Super expensive but didn't enjoy the restaurant. Definitely last time. Avoid unless you are desperate.

3.5/5

Good deals at great prices. The fish was cooked well, the chips were well seasoned but not that hot. Salad was good as well, can’t really go wrong there. Most food is pre-prepared and kept warm so it might not be that ‘fresh’ and heated upon consumption.

Their seafood is soooo fresh
Oysters is my all time favourite, I sometimes get the octopus, they have variety of seafood to choose from and the best thing is that they’re fresh!!
I haven’t once seen the “thawed” word on their signs. All fresh fresh fresh and very worths the money
Staff is really friendly too I highly recommend

Really good value fish and chips for $7 including a drink as well.

The fish and chips were precooked, and I was a bit wary of this at first, but they don't do a huge batch (in fact I think I got the last piece of fish of the batch). The chips were crunchy and tasted freshly cooked. I think they have high turnover of customers and are able to keep pumping out fresh stuff.

The battered fish and calamari rings here are really nice. Better than most fish and chips I tried in Sydney! Their chips are okay, but I come here for their fish. It's cheap, and definitely worth trying.

Really cheap and relatively fresh seafood/fries. Sometimes the fries have been left out for a while as the food isn't really made to order but otherwise they're nice and crispy. The Fishermans basket is good value for money and has a variety of seafood so the flavour doesn't get repetitive. $7 for a good
portion of chips and fish + a drink is too worth its price

Whenever I'm craving fish and chips and don't want to put a dent in my wallet, I go here! They have the cheapest meal deals - most of them are $10 or less. Have tried the Grilled Fish and Battered Fish packs, comes with seasoned chips, salad and a drink!

There are also salt shakers so you can choose chicken or plain salt to season your chips. The salad is bland but it's refreshing to eat - let's be real, you're only after the fried food am I right?

My favourite is the salt and pepper calamari except I have to wait a while for it because they cook it fresh. I love the mayo they use on it too. It's so damn delicious.

This place get's pretty busy during the lunch hour rush and it's also cash only. A great cheap feed for all pescatarians and omnivores alike!

Hey guys remember me? The guy that you sold salmon to @ 39.90 a kilo. You think you're intelligent ripping off customers. So let's inform your potential customers about the real cost of seafood.

Salmon in the industry we get @ $16-$18 per kilo (if you would like me to post our entire foodlink seafood order sheet on this review just let me know). For the average citizen $26 is the fair price. Your bullshit about it taking a long time to de skin, pinbone and portion cut is complete and utter bullshit. For one, you haven't portion cut anything to a set weight, secondly, it takes no longer then 15 seconds to remove the skin from a side of salmon. And less then 2 minutes to pinbone the entire side. I have a first year apprentice in my kitchen that can process a whole fish faster then it took you to bag it up.

Coles next door sell the same quality fish from the exact same stock (don't even try and tell me that you're supplier is different, I know more about seafood then you. I trivia'd you about the ling and you are completely wrong) for half the price you do. They even pin bone the fish for you too.

Would you like me to also point out the 'mislabelling' of Australian seafood? Just because you defrost it in Store doesn't mean it's Australian. Basically what you are actually doing is lying to your customers. It's also illegal to mislabel the sourcing of seafood.

Also handling money and fish with the same gloves. Tsk tsk tsk. It's why I smiled instead of arguing the point about the cost of the salmon. You're lucky I am a chef and not from the council. You got an extra $10 for me for 700gms of salmon, but have fun pleading with Zomato to remove this review.

Kind regards, Chef.
Normally this place is great, however I had a bad experience on a weekday (I normally buy it on weekends). This chips were extremely overcooked and didn't realised till I walked home. see attached picture. The normal guy that works there wasn't there and is substituted with an Asian lady during weekdays. disappointed!!!

Every time we shop at Rhodes, I find myself making excuses just to get an opportunity to eat here. Rhodes seafood is essentially a fish and chip shop co-existing in their Fish Market. It offers amazing value for money... and the food quality is well above average. I sometimes fall guilty of being a creature of habit and this place really brings that out in me. I order my usual, ten fish cocktails for a measly $6. They get served hot on nearly all occasions and it's melt in your mouth delicious. The only better fish cocktails I've had has to be at Lobster Affair in Randwick.

Cheap and okay food but extremely terrible service by the Indian guy. He is very very rude. Avoid getting served by him. I have no idea who employed this terribly rude no-hoper

Located Right next to Coles. Have had their fish and chips - both grilled and fried and they have been good. Get yourself a pack with chips and salad for around $10 (from memory). They have a few tables to eat on if you want to eat there. Good fish and seafood sticks with friendly staff.

The whole box was a summary of mediocre takeaway food... I think maybe just stick with the fish based items. I recall one time having tried the grilled barramundi and that was cooked quite well.

This place is all about value for money, good customer service and those damn addictive fish cocktails... I could do with a box now...
