Review Richmond Oyster - Richmond

S C
Took the family here for birthday dinner and was a great night out. My advice is the seafood platter for 2 is suited for 3 people, and platter for 4 for 5 people. There were 4 of us and we did the platter for 4 and we did not finish everything, not for the lack of trying. Fair to say that the platter is huge. The seafood platter is great, the highlights for me were the half lobster with cheese, the croutons were exceptionally good and Moreton bay bugs. Staff were very attentive and came to clean our table regularly, providing wet towels, bins to dispose of rubbish.

Amazing experience! I love it. ♥️ Platter for two, ( we eat 3) $141 Fresh seafood on top and Variety well cooked and fried under. Oyster shoot! , And my best was seafood chowder! Awwww yummy 😍 + Nice dessert for my birthday. Excellent service, they attend to all my special requests. Recommended to %100 to all seafood lovers who want a true and varied seafood experience. Not just fried as in most 🤗 I wish I could give to you 10 ⭐

Came here to satisfy my heavily pregnant wife's craving for chowder and it didn't disappoint. Classic, rich, smoky chowder with an incredibly generous array of fresh seafood, and a hearty rustic texture. Also enjoyed some fresh oysters, crispy whole snapper, and some tender, delicate octopus too. And a bowl of chips we didn't really need, but very happy we got them as they were perfectly crispy and generously seasoned - to the last chip!Everything was delicious, and the service was friendly, attentive and not overbearing. An excellent lunch, definitely worth it (~$75 each including some takeaway seafood stock from the shop).

Awesome fresh seafood. Great chips. Had seafood chowder and whiting fish & chips and loved it all. Washed down with a couple of nice chardonnays. Like the no frills vibe too. Well priced for the quality

Beautiful food all around! There is a lot of options too, great sides and entrees. One of the better seafood restaurants in Melbourne!
Stephanie De Windt
Such a great place, delicious, fresh seafood. It was our anniversary and they gave us a free dessert ❤️ will definitely be back!

Came here and ordered the morton bay bug platter but was not available so ordered the fish n chips platter (3 pieces of fish, 2 calamari, 2 prawn and 2 scallops) but was underwhelmed
Jake Mansfield
Excellent service and super fresh seafood. Everything was cooked perfectly. Haven't been for a while but will be back soon. Sashimi and grilled hapuka were the standouts.
Rebecca Szabó
Worth every cent. Beautifully cooked seafood and amazingly presented. The staff were really lovely and super friendly. I am adamant that the banana dessert was the best dessert I have EVER eaten. Was really amazed at the selection of fresh fish to choose from. The fact you can eat and then buy whatever seafood you want to take home is a great novelty.

Wow..... I have never had such a great seafood meal and great service. This is where I will bringing my clientele base back. Better than Neil Perry Rosetta restaurant. The food was so much better and fresher and the knowledge of your dishes, produce and wine was mind blowing. Thank you for a great meal, awesome service Richmond Oysters. Hats off to your waiter staff and chefs . We will be back again and will be spreading the word around. Regards, Rodney Cotter Korr Lighting

Came here to sample fresh Sydney and Pacific (Tasmanian in season at the time) oysters since seeing Richmond Oysters were getting rave reviews from past diners for its oysters. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Definitely will not disappoint!

A spur of the moment lunch. Amazing food. Started with Sydney rock oysters followed by amazing mussels in white wine sauce. The red meat man enjoyed his fish and chips(a little grudgingly- but he did take me there). Attentive friendly staff. Great wine and cocktail list. I just wanted to buy everything on display to keep eating that amazing seafood!

We enjoy the seafood platters. We had deserts afterwards. The food was delicious. It cost us almost $300 dollars for all the seafood we had. The lobster was perfectly done. I recommend to all my friends. Can't stop talking about the food there. We be going back again in the future.
Shannon Cocks
Started going to this place years back, for around $130 you used to get a platter that is now around $260 (the new one does include half a little lobster, the food is good quality and tastes great but its hard to see how its doubled in cost but pretty much the same ampunt of food. Bring back the old platters!.

Service was very friendly food was awsome we had the seafood platter and loved it all. Definately recommend to others and we will go back again. Stunning atmosphere very relaxing

Our food was excellent, the service was great, I appreciated the care that was shown to my granddaughter. What can I say? It is my favorite restaurant in Melbourne, it is a tradition for the family to return every time I visit. I would recommend it to my friends and family! Very good 🍷

First time at this restaurant great food and service best seafood I have ever had highly recommend

An absolutely magnificent meal for my birthday. Sydney rock oysters and garlic prawns for entree followed bug Morten Bay Bugs, then 3 of the Daily Market Display (whiting and flathead) and finally the Gaytime Desert. What a great meal, one of the best ever.
Emily Mackenzie Fleming
Oysters were average at best and not shucked properl. The rest of the food was almost inedible (the dog liked it). $18 for a Bloody Mary to which was one of the worst I've had, with one soggy lemon for a garnish and we asked for spicy and they came sweet. Staff were inexperienced and when we told them about our thoughts on our meal & drinks we then were argued with and told many excuses. This establishment has been here for a long time but clearly needs a manager that can lift the standards!!!!
Rebecca Kaldanis
Went with my in laws and brother and enjoyed an amazing feast fit for a Queen! We had two seafood platters, a dozen Pacific oysters and dessert. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful in explaining the options. The food was by far the best seafood I have had in as long as I can remember. Immaculate presentation, service and food - what more could you ask for ?

Amazing food, wonderful staff would not hesitate in eating and drinking at this awesome seafood restaurant again. Oh yes and for the red meat eaters their steak is OMG. 10 out of 10... Thank you so much

Well, two of us had a delicious lunch of calamari and scallops, and then we decided that we needed a giant prawn cocktail for dinner. So we went to the retail fish counter. Well you known how there are never enough prawns in a prawn cocktail ???? This time we made sure there was an inelegant oversuffiency by getting a kilo and a half of amazing tiger prawns, a couple of dozen creamy oysters and some truly lip licking cocktail sauce. It took us a while, but we were not deterred by our own gluttony. Both of us looked sadly at the last prawn (I won), and thought about doing it all again next week end. So good. So yummy. So retro decadent. So highly recommended.

Great food - but...... 1st beer choice - not available! 2nd beer choice - not available!! 3rd beer choice - not available!!! Got there in the end. 1st wine choice - not available! 2nd wine choice - not available!! Got there in the end. Umm... Is it that hard? A really good restaurant has its act together. C'mon guy's......

The team were helpful, friendly and caring. From great recommendations on food and drinks to helping keep the little one's entertained. The food was lovely but the service was what made it special. Thank you!

This is the restaurant to go to for every possible seafood dish. There are multiple platter options for various group sizes as well as individual main and entree dishes.<br/>We couldn’t resist ordering the seafood platter which I shared amongst two but could be shared amongst three depending on how hungry everyone is. This platter contained both a combination of hot and cold seafood. Served was natural oysters, poké fish, bay bug, grilled prawns and scallops, mussels pot, seafood skewers, tempura prawns, salt and pepper calamari, and grilled fish of the day. Enjoyed every part of this platter as it was all delicious, packed with flavour and we were left very satisfied.
Blefdot
Fantastic birthday spent with friends here. The seafood was a standout everyone loved their food and we all had different meals. Must try the oysters and mussel pot.
Rowan
I will never dine in there again. <br/>The worst customer service I have ever received, very disappointing! We had about 3 different stuff-ups with our order and felt like management couldn’t care less. For the amount of money we spent you would expect better quality food and service. I sent them an email with feedback afterwards and they didn’t even have the decency to reply back!!

Richmond Oysters is a favourite for us. Having originally lived in Sydney we have often found it difficult to get good quality seafood in Melbourne but Richmond Oysters delivers consistently.<br/><br/>My wife and I went in today for lunch and ordered a half dozen pacific and a half dozen Sydney rock, the oysters were lovely and fresh and tasted delicious.<br/><br/>We also ordered the Sashimi which again was really fresh and finished with the Mussel pot which was very tasty.<br/><br/>We have been to Richmond Oysters at least a dozen times and always find ourselves heading there on bright sunny days when fresh seafood is the go. <br/><br/>Unlike other restaurants which we’ve frequented and ultimately fallen out of love for Richmond Oysters has remained consistent and is one of our favourite dining venues for quality fresh seafood in Melbourne.
Helen
The reason for the 1 star rating was that one of our guests became very sick and developed vomiting and diahhorea after eating the fish.
KEL
Came for workday lunch, this place got some nice seafood, fresh fish and great lunch meal deal!<br/><br/>I love how they get you to choose the fish, the way you want it to be cooked, sauce and sides. Customisation is everything! Plus the taste, heaven!<br/><br/>We also ordered some chips for extra, seriously, what gets better than fish and chips on a sunny day?<br/><br/>I think the price point is on the higher end but it is good to indulge yourself once a while. Would love to be back for some fresh oysters!
Sunny Days Melbourne
I had heard so much about Richmond Oysters and was excited that I finally had the chance to try out their food. <br/><br/>We had the fish and chips as well as the seafood platter. The fish was very fresh and well prepared. The chips were delicious. This must be how royalty have their fish and chips! <br/><br/>Everything on the seafood platter was cooked with care and precision. The quality of the seafood was amazing and the accompanying sauces were a bonus. <br/><br/>Everything was quite pricey so it's one of those places for a special occasion. Staff were very attentive, knowledgeable and accomodating. <br/><br/>
Helen Liu
Our reservation was recorded incorrectly, service very slow. Food was really good but pricier as well.
Joanna Falalis
Absolutely lovely staff members. Seafood was extremely fresh, tasty and definitely had me and my best friend counting down the days until we can come back again.

We booked this restaurant for international guests and ourselves looking for seafood. Lived in Melb for decades and never heard of this place. Well we were really impressed. The staff, Mike from SA in particular, were excellent. They accommodated our special request to try a wide range of seafood. We ended up having 9 different selections including trout tartare, Tas and Sydney oysters, calamari, king prawns, lobster, snapper, salmon, whiting. We all shared it all. Sides we had excellent crunchy chips and baby potatoes in rosemary and garlic and a great pear and pinenut and rocket and lime salad. The wine list was also sensational and Mike was helpful with the selection of wine too. You can see my other many reviews and I have not spoken so highly of another restaurant. All they need to do is improve their music selection and a little work on lighting and ambience and decor and you have yourself 10/10. As it is I would give the food and service 10/10 and wine list 9/10 I would thoroughly recommend you give Richmond Oyster a try. Every single seafood dish was fresh and excellent.

Fantastic seafood. love the calamari here.

If you're a seafood lover, grab your seafood lover friends and book dinner here! Order everything to share as portions are big enough for sharing that way you can try EVERYTHING on the menu! So worth it!

Popped into Richmond Oysters last weekend for some of the best seafood I’ve eaten in a very long time. We ordered the sashimi platter, fresh oysters, morteton Bay bug risotto & the delicious king prawns!! So delicious, well priced and lovely service.
BlueBelle
My partner took me here for my surprise birthday dinner. What a wonderful place! Very friendly staff and food was well cooked and super delicious! They also gave me a very beautiful ice cream cake on the house! Beautiful! Totally recommended and will come back.
Eat Good Melbourne
A very popular seafood restaurant as we learned whilst tables of people moved in an out of the restaurant. We ordered saganaki and a seafood platter which consisted raw and cooked seafood. The sashimi was super fresh and I really enjoyed the mussels. A little on the pricey side but great presentation and variety.
Jake Allan Ross
Pretty good but be warned, most of the sea food is not vegan. The oyster shells seem like they are vegan because they are hard and not made out of meat but the kind waiter pointed out that they are still animal produce. We went down the road for a lentil burger instead but I'm still rating five stars for good service.
Kieren Fox
That seafood platter was next level! toothfish was also amazing. Buttery soft texture, hopefully it doesn’t get extinct any time soon! Only criticism was the price. It’s pretty $$$ for what you get. But the flavours are great, it’s true.
Selina
OMG the most amazing seafood platter I’ve ever eaten. My son loved the oyster shots! The staff were so nice Had the best dinner in so long, yum😋
Harry Elliott
Had dinner there recently on after Xmas and it was pitiful. Battered food was as dry as potato chips and the cooked and prepared dishes way overcooked & just horrible.<br/><br/>We spent near on $1000 and with all due respects it wasn’t worth anything more than $150 tops.<br/><br/>This place is nothing more than a glorified fish and chip shop. Period. The amount they charge is absurd and unfortunately they don’t live up to expectations on any level and if you want to charge those sort prices then you have to sometimes put up with the bad.<br/><br/>Recommendation - don’t go.
CCC
The restaurant is fairly pricey but they had a good happy hour deal with $2 oysters. The chowder was fantastic. Staff were friendly and didn’t rush us. Seafood was all very fresh
Sally
The staff were friendly and the food was yum. Slightly overpriced but overall a good experience. There was lots of options to choose from and the oysters were fresh and made it worth the visit.

So many of my friends had recommended this place and raved on and on about the oysters so I finally decided to go with my partner and I was let down, I had such high hopes for the oysters but was a little disappointed. I was bought up (in New Zealand where eating seafood right on the beach was almost an everyday thing for us because we loved both the beach and seafood so much) eating seafood such as sea urchins, abalone, mussels, clams and oysters straight from the ocean/beach. Yes you can cook almost all of these but I was brought up eating them fresh. Anyway I like my oysters to taste fresh, a little salty or creamy... my oysters were dry, a little smelly and had more of a watery taste rather than salty taste (almost as if ice had constantly been placed on top of them to make them SEEM fresh and juicy) they weren’t terrible but they definitely aren’t worth the hype here. There was only us and another couple at the time and my snapper took about 40mins to come out, I also ordered a side of vegetables that seemed to have been cooked but were cold on the outside and a tad warm on the inside 😭 the service was great though and the staff were super lovely and friendly

I recently visited this place for lunch after not having been for 10 years or so. It actually hasn't changed a bit, still has the best quality seafood. Really great lunch specials, massive piece of salmon for $15! Excellent service as well and quick. Will certainly be back.

Decent seafood and I really like that you can have it on ubereats/deliveroo. The portion sizes are a bit small especially if you compare to honkey dory but the venue is more fancier.

Went to Richmond oysters. Food was ok to good. Service was appalling. We have a Citibank credit card, Citibank have a deal that means you get a free bottle of wine at Richmond oyster. We had to explain this four times, once when we booked, secondly when ordering starters, third time when actually ordering the wine. And then they still put it on our bill so four times. On top of that the service was not good. The head waiter was good, but some of the wait staff was not. Probably not going back.....

Went in for a weekday lunch. Had the platinum seafood platter for two. Plenty to share amongst three people. The seafood was very fresh, esp the oysters, and well prepared. Some hit and miss. Overall, decent experience.
Xiaoleyang888
Four people ate all food, which spent 242 AUD. But the seafood risotto is too salty. Two flavors of oysters are good. Next time I want to try another platter.

Seafood specializing eatery (3.5⭐)<br/><br/>Ambience: The place is pretty spacious, and it's well kept and is pretty nice, though there was some fishy smell. It's pretty bright from the sun outside. There are also seatings outside with heaters so it's nice and warm, more than inside.<br/><br/>Service: The staffs were pretty friendly, food came out after some wait, still reasonable. It's bit hard to get their attention sometimes.<br/><br/>Food: The lunch special fish and chips ($15) (upgraded from gummy shark to flathead for extra $2) was nicely fried, fish was okay size, batter wasn't too thick or too oily, and chips were good as well, there were some salad on the side which balances the meal. Served with some tartar on the side which was decent.<br/><br/>Grilled king salmon ($42) was great as well, skin was crispy and salmon was the right doneness and taste. Had them with rosemary potatoes on the side, which were my fav out of all the potatoes, along with normal chips. Smoked aioli was nice as well.<br/><br/>Grilled toothfish ($69) was really good, though a bit small. The fish was fresh and just cooked to the right doneness, not fishy at all. Soy mirin ginger sauce and season wedges were great, and i liked the pear & rocket salad, though the pear can be more generous.<br/><br/>Lastly we had the scallops ($24). We had them half cooked in garlic butter and half soy mirin ginger. They were like tiny 8 pieces and they tasted pretty bad, really bland (bit smelly too) and had weird texture. The soy mirin was just a hit better than the garlic butter.<br/><br/>Price: Pricy for what it is, except from the lunch specials.<br/><br/>YUM: toothfish and salmon, rosemary potatoes<br/>NAH: scallops<br/><br/>photos: grilled toothfish, grilled king salmon, fish and chips (flathead), scallops<br/><br/>( follow for more!✨)<br/><br/>xx,joelle

Warm environment, staff were friendly, we went for a Monday lunch and although not very busy, was pleased to see a $15.00 lunch special. I had a fish burger and chips which said pear slaw, but the slaw was really just a few slices of pear with lettuce tomato and red onion. Not what I would consider slaw. My husband had a steak which was cooked perfect and we did have some entree Oysters which were yum.

Went here for a group lunch and it's very good. We had oysters which was fresh and tasted nice. I my self ordered fish chips, one of their lunch special, and it was delicious. The fish was big and battered perfectly. It was crispy and soft inside. The chips wasn't too bad too, it wasn't very crispy but hey I still like it. It also came with salad which was a nice addition. Overall it was one of the nicest fish and chips I ever had in a restaurant. This place is not cheap though so you might want to go there for their lunch specials if you are on budget and you won't be disappointed.
LipsRMade4Eating
One of the best customer service in town, in addition to the delicious seafood meal. Was there to celebrate a birthday, and we thoroughly enjoyed our night there.
FoodieGuru_770
Came here with 5 friends. Had a lovely whole snapper grilled To perfection. The wine was great and the platter of food was tasty and delicious for my friends. The oysters hit the spot for my friends and really a delicious meal. Only complaint was it took 1 hr for food to come.
Chey_ct
The setting is quite basic but don't let that deter you from coming here! The seafood is so fresh and absolutely amazing. My friend and I ordered a few dishes to share and everything was gorgeous. I'm indifferent to oysters and my friend doesn't really like them but we both agreed these were the tastiest oysters we had!
RW
With so many choices in this area we decided this would be where we would dine on what seemed to be a busy Friday night. Food was tasty and fresh which we both enjoyed.
Valérie Vuu
Went here for a birthday dinner and got one of their huge platters. So many choices and fresh seafood! Very very pleased with them. I would also suggest their golden gaytime dessert. It was so good.

We drive past this place quite often, and it is generally quite busy. So naturally, the crowd attracts. <br/><br/>We went here with a group of 4, had to try a range of oysters and yes they were good. Other dishes we got was the sashmi, mussel pot and friend calamari. To be honest, they all tasted great. The place is more of an upscale experience. For the average joe like me, it's quite pricy. This will be a nice place for a date, but maybe not for a first date 😉<br/><br/>Enjoy the photos i've attached.

Was looking for a seafood place for a late weekend lunch and decided to give this place a try. We ordered Marinara seafood chowder, Seafood Paella and Grilled Prawns with garlic butter sauce. We had to wait for longer than what we thought we should, considering it was a very quiet late afternoon lunch time. There was only us and another table of customers. Seafood paella was a little too dry in some parts of the rice, but the overall flavour was pretty decent. Serving was reasonable too. Seafood chowder was served with a couple of bread roll. The chowder itself was creamy, flavoursome and great amount of seafood inside to hold up its title. The only let down was it was a bit too salty for my liking. The grilled prawn had a strange aftertaste and the sauce did not help to save the dish either. Perhaps it was slightly undercooked.
Greg Campbell
The atmosphere was pleasant, clean and comfortable. We were near the front window so a bit of shelter from the afternoon sun would not have been unappreciated. The service was excellent thanks to Melina's exemplary attention. All the food was excellent. There were 9 of us there for Sunday lunch. 5 shared a Deluxe Seafood Platter for 4 and there was plenty of delicious seafood to satisfy all. The rest enjoyed a variety of food from Clam Crowder (I loved this), Surf & Turf to Chicken & Chorizo Linguini. Everybody loved their food, without exception. The desserts were all fabulously delicious. The bill was very reasonable at around $100 per person including food and beverages. There were no complaints from anyone in the group. Will definitely be returning.

Great food. Friendly vibe. Good customer service. Very fresh seafood. Love the drink selections. Love the tasty, fresh and delicious lobsters and oysters. We will be back soon. Highly recommend this place.

Richmond Oysters has a decent range of seafood which was great to see the produce behind glass and learn from the staff about its origins. Each dish I tried; a mixed set of seafood and paella was done perfectly. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive.
SteveK
This is a Richmond favourite, recently I have be confined to the lunch menu, love the clam linguini. Always the freshest fish with 5 star service from the team. Well priced a place you can't go wrong with.

We dined in at the Richmond Oysters Richmond restaurant a few weeks ago. Staff were very friendly and accomodating to our whole group of friends. One of our favourite dishes was the mussels. Cooked perfectly and full of heaps of wonderful flavour. We look forward to visiting their Oakleigh branch and trying their seafood platter next time we are in. We also checked out their retail section and purchased some fresh fish to take home with us.

We visited Richmond Oysters for dinner last Saturday. The service was fantastic - thank you to the lovely gentlemen who served us.<br/>We ordered the seafood platter which was honestly a little disappointing. <br/>The fried won tons were burnt and not edible. The pot of mussels looked great but were WAY to salty we could only eat 1 and had to leave the rest of them unfortunately. The fried calamari was too oily and soaked the salad underneath in oil which made it quite soggy and inedible. On a positive note, the Moreton bay bugs were nice and fresh. This was our first visit to Richmond Oyster but we probably won't be back given the food experience.
Tanec1996
Very friendly and experienced staff who handled a rowdy customer very professionally, ensuring the rest of the customers continued to have an excellent time. Thank you!
SG
This is a seafood shop which also does takeaways and high standard sit down dining.<br/><br/>There is a wide range of different fish and seafood dishes, rangjng from salads and entrees to mains.<br/><br/>We both had grilled fish with different side dishes. The food was delicious. The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting, the tables are well spaced and we happily spent a couple of hours there.

Food: 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5<br/>We ordered the linguini marinara, chips, mussel pot, seafood chowder and boy did it not disappoint. The linguini marinara was the the dish of the day as we really enjoyed the flavours, combination of seafood and the texture of the pasta. The garlic, chilli broth in our mussel pot was delicious and the mussels were very soft and juicy. The chowder was a little too salty for our tastes but still enjoyable nonetheless. <br/><br/>Service: 🌟🌟🌟.5<br/>Staff were polite however as it was busy in the restaurant, we had to make multiple attempts to get the attention of the staff. Food did not take too long to arrive.<br/><br/>Price: 🌟🌟🌟🌟<br/>Our meal with the addition of the drinks and chips came to just under $100. Reasonably priced for the quality of the meals.<br/>

The service was nice however it took way too long for our food to come out!!!<br/>The oysters were very nice however the rest of the seafood was below average <br/>We had a seafood platter which included over cooked prawns, barramundi and salmon. The soft shell crab and the calamari were flavorless even with the sauces. The wanton was not well integrated into the platter and seemed like it didn’t belong. It didn’t taste very nice. The mussels were good however half of them were not well mixed with the sauce. <br/>Overall it was not a great experience and certainly not the experience we hoped for!!<br/>In short, it tasted bad 🤮🤮🤮<br/>

Dined at Richmond Oysters last night. Loud bustling place. I have been there before and enjoyed it. Last night however there was a group of over 20 men having some function there and the noise they made was deafening. Added to this was a constantly screaming baby whose parent seemed to think if he stood up holding the baby, it would be quiet - the baby wasn't. Had to ask to move tables towards the back of the restaurant and the waiters obliged.<br/><br/>Ordered the deluxe platter for 4 at $408.00 which included a whole lobster. We were supposed to have been asked as to whether we wanted the lobster fresh or mornay. We weren't asked and it came out mornay. It appeared as if the lobster meat had been taken out of the shell and blended with a thick cheese sauce and then baked. There was no texture to the lobster and it tasted like baby food. Truly the worst lobster i have ever tried to eat. Our friends barely touched their half of lobster.<br/><br/>The morton bay bugs were soft and mushy and almost inedible. The rest of the platter was good. Surprisingly poor quality on the lobster and bugs. Would not try again.<br/><br/>To the restaurant's credit, upon clearing the dishes, I let them know about the lobster. They were apologetic and offered us free deserts. <br/><br/>Dusappointing food served up from a seafood restaurant.

Went out to celebrate Richmonds win. Had a nice meal, seafood was good, though not great. Dumplings were so, so. Service was great, an over refreshed Richmond fan was ejected without fuss.
Vivian
Use to come here all the time when it was the only Richmond Oyster opened. The seafood was always fresh and cooked well. My favourite dishes were the platters and the golden gay time dessert !
Andrew Mac
Service was attentive and informative about the seafood platter we ordered. Additionally honest about the oysters which were unfortunately from NZ due to shortage in Australia. Trustworthy staff!<br/><br/>The platter we ordered was impressive for two, I would say that the cold served bay bug, oysters and small bites was the highlight. However the mussel pot was special itself and really gave you a taste of fresh Mediterranean sea. The fillets of fish were grilled perfectly with the skin crispy and the flesh soft.<br/><br/>Good date spot would be interested to return to try other dishes. :)<br/><br/>
Charlotte Cooper
Good food, very fresh fish and they offer the ‘steam’ option, not many restaurant can do steam fish, possibly because their fish is not fresh enough, it was very plain but tasty. Need to work on the playing a bit more though.
Samantics
Have been here twice and although we really wanted to enjoy our experience we again left feeling disappointed. We came for a birthday dinner however the service was underwhelming. Getting the attention of wait staff was at times a struggle and tapping your pen against your order pad doesn’t encourage customers to order faster it is just impolite. We ordered a platter and some items were good but not amazing. A redeeming dish was their take on the golden gaytime dessert which was really lovely. The kitchen and bar forgot to bring some items which they tried to charge for too. This is considered a Richmond institution since 1959 although the food is ok for us the service let it down.

We had our 25th Wedding Anniversary here and had the platinum platter. The food was well prepared and the service excellent. Will be back again.

I'll admit it, I was shocked that the takeaway shashimi cost $19 for about 100 grams of fish. My previous experience with the staff had only been via email enquiries, and I was impressed with the professionalism and personal service I received. <br/><br/>When I went it to pickup a lunch takeaway order, I was engrossed with the open retail counter, with beautiful salmon fillets for $39.90 per kilo. Amazing price for the quality of what I was seeing! And such a range of seafood and deli items to take home - definitely going to shop here!! With all this excitement, I was so surprised to see that what I thought was my lunch, a $19 shashimi was an entree. I recommend indicating on your takeaway the differences between a main and an entree serving. <br/><br/>Having said all this - it was the best sashimi I've ever had. So fresh and beautiful, thankfully my colleagues shared their generous serves of salt+pepper squid. Can't wait for some more yummy seafood from this store!

Decided to come here for a Sunday early dinner, service was great. We ordered fresh oysters and the fish and chip platter, once we left we felt sick and we're sick for the rest of night. Wouldn't recommend.
Alexis Chan
Strong fishy smell…<br/>Food is really fresh!<br/>Staff is willing to make a platter for one person.<br/>I love the salmon sashimi so much. It is thin cut,but only 3 pcs.<br/>Scollaps are too salt.<br/>Enree:Sardine ate in 4 ways. Love the avocado one most, and dislike the one has caper.
Lowooho
Violet
Fresh oysters, grilled king fish was great too! We didn't have too much time for lunch and the service was prompt and fast. Will go again!!!
Secret Taster
A friend had introduced me to this restaurant. <br/><br/>The food is lovely. We've always gotten the platter. Just the feel it's value for money. It's the seduction of adding that little bit more $, but get so much more food. But we never get to finish it. Just get too full. <br/><br/>Staff: We've Never really had that much interaction with staff. We've Just ordered and dug in. Might of ordered another glass of wine here and there. But that was the only interaction. I don't remember having any issues with them nor remember them doing anything thats made us feel the service is extraordinary. <br/><br/>Apart from the first time I was there for dinner, the rest of the times has been lunch and didn't need to book. But Saturday dinner was really busy. <br/><br/>Also great that they sell fresh seafood, just like the market.

INCREDIBLE!!! My new fav seafood place!!<br/>Even if you dont like seafood- eat here and i bet you'll leave a seafood lover!!! Not only was the fish so perfectly cooked but the staff were fantastic! They were friendly, attentive & were able to help me find something i could eat as i have a ton of allergies! <br/>Cant wait to go again tonight!!

I have been coming here for years and have walked out loving it every single time. <br/>Except for my most recent visit, the food was great yes (i would love to give the full 5 here), but the service was terrible (hence the downgrade).<br/>We had to ask for drinks, our waiter walked past our table several times and failed to offer, our plates needed clearing up (they were in front of us a good 40 mins) we also weren't offered dessert, and let me tell you the place wasn't that busy and there was ample staff. So not loving that fact we pretty much had to serve ourselves, especially when we spend $$$.<br/><br/>I have the feeling this place may have changed hands? If yes, take notes from the previous owner. If not? What the hell is going on? <br/><br/>I'm going to be back, but not in a hurry, to give the place another chance, should it fail I won't be back.

Service amazing and friendly. Seafood platter on point. Portion size and price excellent 👍🏻Oysters in panko ❤️. Will be back with friends next time.

Best place to eat Oysters in Melbourne and surprisingly the only place I prefer to eat cooked oysters over raw. My favourite is the Soy Baked Kewpie Mayo but the mornay is also very good 😊

I've always actually liked the restaurant, however when I called up to book a dinner for the same night last night. The waiter whom took my call was almost borderline abusing me over the phone, as he went on saying to me that I shouldn't be booking dinners last minute that it was really annoying for them to be receiving calls during shifts regarding bookings? <br/>It was utterly unprofessional and left a sour taste in my mouth regarding the service, also the fact that taking in reservations should be one of the key things to a restaurant survival? <br/>So the fact I was lectured about booking in a 6.30pm at dinner because it was inconvenient for him during shift was simply just rude. <br/><br/>As much as we love the food there I don't know how I would ever feel about going there again. <br/>

INSANELY expensive and pretty damn ordinary food, would not return. Service was great but this place serves lots of meh food. Go to South Melbourne market and skip this place

Best chowder ever!! So happy to see that you can buy this packaged for takeaway as well! It was served with beautiful fresh sourdough toast. The chowder was creamy & full of every kind of fresh tasty seafood that you could want on there. Service was lovely. Not an intimate environment, but the best seafood in Richmond by far & certainly a great feed for $15 lunch specials!

Very good variety and the seafood platter for two is enough for four. Love my oysters and chilli prawns. Friendly and professional service and will continue to drop in when craving ocean creatures!
One Piece Left
I have to be honest, I was quite excited inside when Helen suggested we try Richmond Oysters out. I kept my feelings suppressed because I didn't want to admit that she had made another great suggestion... it's a food ego thing which we have between us! I quickly sneaked in a Google search to have a look at their menu. What took me by surprise was not the seafood selection but the prices! The seafood platters started at $158 all the way to $408. With these prices, I swear they better come with a gold nugget or a couple of pearls in there! Realistically, I'm expecting a pretty fancy atmosphere, with top notch seafood to match these prices.<br/><br/>We got there and as soon as we stepped inside, we were underwhelmed to say the least. It looked like an average family restaurant with a fish tank. Bland is probably the best way to describe the feel. The table cloth was also covered with white paper, not that I have anything against the paper, but I was kind of expecting to feel the table cloth for a place who advertises themselves as a premium seafood restaurant. <br/><br/>Well anyway, the seafood is what we came for so let's talk a bit about that. We started with some Japanese style oyster shots, which included 5 ingredients excluding the oyster itself. I only tasted one, and that was sake! Way too overbearing, and I couldn't taste anything else. Once I got to the oyster, I think I was drunk already. The shot is supposed to compliment the oyster and not overpower it, these oyster shots have missed the mark unfortunately. <br/><br/>We went for the cheapest seafood platter because we couldn't justify the $110 difference for half a lobster! The platter looked impressive when it came out, as seafood platters generally do. The platter as a whole was average/mediocre though, but let's start off with the positives first. The oysters were amazing, fresh, meaty with a tinge of saltiness. The calamari was really good also, we're generally not huge fans of calamari but these were well battered, light and well seasoned. All the other seafoods on this platter were pretty damn ordinary. The Moreton Bay bugs had this weird mayonnaise on top which did nothing for it, prawn cutlets were flavourless with no prawn flavour, mussel pot tasted like thick tomato paste - mussels were cooked well though, and the salmon fillets were overcooked. The two sauces which they supplied with the seafood platter did very little to help with the majority of the seafood. <br/><br/>The service on the other hand was friendly and attentive. They were never too far away to answer any questions about the food or the menu. I felt a little bad for not leaving a tip, but my experience had to consist of good food and service in order to be eligible for a tip. Even with the entertainment book, buyer's remorse kicked in, as we felt like we paid way too much for what we got. There's some gourmet fish and chip places who serve better seafood at a fraction of the price. We won't be in any rush to head back here, and the search for a premium seafood restaurant in Melbourne continues...<br/><br/>- D

The best oysters in town so far in my books, I really enjoy the variety on offer as well can't go past old school kilpatrick although the nam Jim is a great option also

I've dined here 3 times now and have enjoyed my dining experience each time. I love the idea of the DIY dinner option where you can pick a fish, a veg/starch option and sides/sauces. I've chosen barramundi with lemon butter and greens as well as ocean trout with similar sides and have enjoyed it thoroughly both times. I've also had the platter between two people and found that to be tasty as well with a good variety of items, however not one for 'deep fried' fish that was slightly lost on me but I'm glad there were more hot and cold fresh options as opposed to that. <br/><br/>The tricky bit with seafood is that it needs to be fresh and unfortunately on my most recent visit (which was a bday shout with a girlfriend), we both fell ill overnight after dinner. We had the same food (share plates of Moreton Bay Bugs) as well as a fish + veg main and were both quite ill well into the next day. I'm sure this was a once off but it did put me off going back too soon.<br/><br/>All-in-all a good place for seafood (lots of options), the ambience is a little clinical with tile floors (so it's not a warm space) but isn't bad for big groups or a casual verging on smart casual venue for a dinner with friends.

Good food, affordable... cant believe its only 15!!! will comeback:)))) but the service quite poor ... she is not smile at all. anyway will comeback for the food. I love the mussels linguini:)
Good Food, Good Mood
Ordered the seafood platter between two. Not enough seasoning or contextual sauces provided for all the elements of the dish. Aka there was not enough flavour and the seafood itself was a bit plain after a while. <br/><br/>Everything was fresh, prawns and scampi were probably my favourite of them all. The calamari was a bit dry. Service was really attentive and I'm glad they've been able to open another two locations in Melbourne since they've been open! Would recommend going here if you love seafood.
Pinch Of Bacon
The seafood platter was huge and tasty! They say it is for 2 but I think 4 people could reasonably be satisfied. The staff were really friendly and we will happily go back.

I only like ordering and eating fish out at specialty seafood restaurants. This place is rhe bomb. We ordered the banquet. Was the cheapest one there, cant remember the name. Was so filling. I ordered the fish and chips for my son. I got in trouble from him from eating his meal it was so good.

Fantastic fresh seafood. Platter is also the go at this place. Share the paella as it's full of flavour. And to end the night the golden gaytime desert is gonna make you leave this place satisfied. Service is always friendly
Yourmelbournefoodguide
Amazing seafood - went there with two others and got the platinum platter - we managed to finish it but the amount on the platter was so overwhelming. Next time, would just order a few things rather than the platter. The highlight for me was the golden gaytime dessert. Absolutely amazing !! Also got the chocolate tart but was quite rich.
World Eats Food
We had the deluxe platter to share between four people. I love the oysters here and how it is cooked in different styles and sauces, oysters six ways. Really great fun to try different things. Service was good. Great place for a dinner!

Overall Richmond Oysters on the freshness and quality of their food, YES! they absolutely nailed it. On the ambiance and service for the price, it was a little lacking.<br/><br/>We were asked if we wanted to share the food, yes we did, but did we want our entrees and mains to come out at the same and not even fit all the food on the table, no we did not! You would think for the amount of money you are spending this kind of thing would be a given and you wouldn't need to say please bring the sashimi and oysters first and the mains later.<br/><br/>Unfortunately this meant the risotto was not great when we got to it, would it have been better fresh, perhaps! The food was fabulous and if the service was a little better it could absolutely be above a 9 but this did effect our experience.

Got delivery through uber eats. The seafood linguini was quite delicious however it was a bit expensive for the small amount of seafood it had. The description on uber eats also didn't mention that there was chicken in the dish - and I don't eat chicken. The Greek Salad was $12 and was disappointingly boring. Good food but overpriced.

I had a casual dinner with my great friend who just returned from 2 years living in tassie! A game choice as he had he freshest seafood you can get in Australia for the last 2 years... and Richmond oysters didn't disappoint! My friend had the fish and chips platter which looked massive and tasted delicious (according to him). I had grilled yellowfin tuna with 2 salads for $49 and I was not disappointed! The tuba was cooked to perfection for me... charred on the outside and deep red inside! Only thing negative is that they should offer 2 sizes - I thought my tuna fillet was too big (and I'm a BIG eater)! They should offer a 200g serve and a 300g one and price them accordingly!

An absolutely magnificent meal for my birthday. Sydney rock oysters and garlic prawns for entree followed bug Morten Bay Bugs, then 3 of the Daily Market Display (whiting and flathead) and finally the Gaytime Desert. What a great meal, one of the best ever.
Food Is Life 👌
I was really impressed with Richmond Oysters... I was part of a table of 11 adults and everyone was really happy with their meals! I got the rockling, others got the platter and salmon but the real winner was the fish n chip platter. Brilliant dish at a great price and huge serving! Thanks for a great night 👍

To get the full experience you should come with a group of friends. It's on of those places that has a great social feel to it. Oysters are not cheap (they usually aren't anyway) but a great night out for a birthday.

I love the food here. staff are generally friendly; however due to how busy the restaurant can get, I feel that they should have more people on because it takes so long for someone to come over and take my order. During peak hours, the atmosphere is extremely noisy and loud, which makes it difficult to hear your conversations

Came for a Sunday lunch - wasn't too busy, service was attentive and friendly. We ordered a small platter and a pot of mussels. For a seafood restaurant, we were quite let down with the freshness and overall taste of the seafood. It all seemed just okay and we left a bit disappointed. Set up is weird with ppl walking past to buy seafood at the counter in the middle of the restaurant. Won't be rushing back unfortunately.

Note: This review does not include the bar <br/><br/>Food/Price/Quantity:<br/>This place is a "bit" on the expensive side, but is it worth it? I would say yes. I had ordered pacific oysters with granita (This granita in particular is made of apple cider and champagne vinegar) and it combined brilliantly with the oysters. I also had a linguini marinara which was filled with quite a bit of (Fresh) seafood which helps justify the 34 dollars price tag.<br/><br/>Service: The staff here was attentive and polite, giving me no excuse to complain about them ;)<br/><br/>Atmosphere: Well, you walk in to the place and the first thing you would smell is the ocean, or at least seafood that smells like the ocean. Very fancy looking though.<br/><br/>Overall a nice place to eat and a must go for seafood lovers.<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

If you love seafood you will love this place. Started with the Japanese Oyster shots and then had the seafood platter with a side of fries. Each dish on the seafood platter was amazing with a combination of hot and cold dishes. The restaurant also acts as a seafood shop so you can buy your favorite dishes and take them home to cook as well.

I went here for lunch and ordered the salt and pepper calamari that came with a wombok salad. The calamari wasn't great, the coating didn't have any flavour to it but the salad it came with was really nice. Good flavours, very refreshing when balanced against the fried squid. Got a side of chips that were way too greasy. Service was a little slow and standoffish.

Amazing, so fresh and so much to chose from. The quality is superb and they were very accommodating in making some changes to suit exactly what I wanted.

Booked 4 weeks ahead for a special dinner. When we arrived we were put at their worst table, it felt like a fish market. We asked to be moved and got the mid range tables, it's not like we were just ordering fish and chips we spent a couple of hundred here and they had empty nicer tables... food was okay, they were out of a few fish we tried to order. Wouldn't recommend, we aren't going back.

Food was great and it won't disappoint when you want the WOW for your VIP guests.<br/><br/>The only thumbs down is that the table was a bit small to accommodate the dishes we ordered and the portion size can be a little bigger with this price.<br/><br/>Other than that it's a very good night out
Silvia Sk
Tried here on a good food voucher and decided on the seafood platter to share. The seafood was very fresh and could not get over those trout rilletts. They were fantastic. The Pacific oysters were good but I've definitely been told the Sydney ones are much better so when we go again I'd try those instead. You can order seafood to take home with you as they also have a shop front which was surprisingly quite busy. Cocktails are very good also. It was a great experience but rather pricey. Glad we had the voucher. Will still try and go again.

A number of issues arose that I wouldn't expect from such an establishment. <br/><br/>- we were told the platter we chose was for 3 to 4 people and later told that it is better suited for 2 - 3 (if starters were included)<br/>- drinks were removed with no offer of another beverage. It's hospitality 101 to do this, we then had to flag a waiter and ask for the drink and wait<br/>- the bean, broccoli and almond salad had no almonds on it... none, at all<br/>- parts of the platter were left off due to the waiter not listening to and understanding our request to have items containing gluten be put to the side, which they agreed with and confirmed<br/>- the birthday cake came out with no candles which were provided in the bag with the cake. Sparklers were in the same bag as tbe candles and were on the cake. <br/>- we weren't offered coffee with our cake, i went to the bar to order for the table. Bar man was very helpful. <br/>We eat out a lot and the above are simply not acceptable in Melbourne's food scene. We won't be returning or reccommending to our network.
