Wow. Great vibe, awesome food, impeccable staff. Just an all around great place that serves up delicious food and great tasting coffees.
We had a beautiful experience at TP! The staff were lovely and attentive! The food was delicious and worth the price, the presentation of the meals ( especially the hot cakes ) wow - we will be back!
Friendly staff & top notch food. Generous portions & an overall great service
We went for a mid week lunch. Food and coffee were terrific, the service was so professional and prompt. Great place for business lunch or brunch on the weekend. Service really sets this place above others in the area, thanks Michael we love Top Paddock.
Fabulous food and coffee creative and healthy options. Have to line up but worth it!
I now understand why people queue up for so long - a perfect combination of beautiful food and excellent service. To all at Top Paddock thanks for a really lovely Sunday brunch.
The blueberry and ricotta hot cake is an old favourite, a must order whenever we visit Top Paddock - consistent quality, although the portion size has slightly shrunk over the years.
Best breakfast I've ever had. Eggs cooked perfectly, and great balance of flavors!
A nice popular brunch Cafe with lovely service. We were seated outside beside a warm heater.
The Soy chai latte- smoothe texture but the foam was quite thick and sticky.
Egg Benny was delicious were perfectly poached eggs, a crispy yet soft potato rosti and well flavoured chorizo
The hotcakes were so good. Sweet syrup to drizzle over the spongy hotcokes which had the light crisp crust and topped with a generous amount of fruit and cream.
Amazing service, beautiful coffee and absolutely loved the food!
Ordered:
Hotcakes $22 🥞
Chai Tea $4.5 ☕️
Well known for their hotcakes 🥞, decided to give it a try. It was no doubt superb amazing but I personally found it rather sweet - more like way way to sweet to my liking. Humongous serving portion that I didn’t have to eat dinner that day - probs can feed 2 individuals.
Nice place. Good location.
The staff was very nice. I appreciated that they gave personal service.
Nothing to say about the food. It was good - like you usually get in Melbourne.
Coffee was good.
Great ambience and fantastic coffee. We got a top paddock and eggs your way (poached) with Rosti. Top Paddock tasted fantastic. Eggs your way, could be better. One poached egg was way overcooked. Loved the rosti. Hot choc, it was good but not fantastic. Overall, We would go back again :)
Always really nice visiting here. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Can get very busy. Nice restaurant with delicious food.
its amazing and fantastic experience.
The hotcake is an extremely popular dish and one of their best. Highly recommend visiting here!

I ordered the slow roasted lamb shoulder with extra Rosti and the flavours were amazing, I couldn’t fault anything with this dish. The portion size for the meals can be on the smaller side so ordered an extra rosti which made the dish just the right size. My friend ordered the avocado dish and we weren’t impressed with that at all, it was a quartered avocado with not much else on the plate. The dish was so small and underwhelming.
Cafe was busy and very loud inside but we loved the interior, it is a beautiful space to spend brunch on a weekend.
This brunch location is just a short tram ride from Richmond station, and is a great place to catch up with mates... Although a booking is recommended, as it can get quite busy. The food is on the pricier side. I ordered the pancakes. They were extremely delicious; although, I wish they had used icecream and not cream.... Probably a once-off visit for me.
Top Paddock has been on my list of cafes to visit ever since moving to Melbourne, and it definitely lived up to my expectations!
I love the ambience the cafe itself, it's nice and spacious with modern decor. Service was so good to, my friend and I were busy talking and took ages to decide but they were super patient and happily gave us time. They also didn't clear our plates straight away also which we appreciated as we didn't feel rushed to leave.
On to the food - it was nothing short of amazing! I had the buttermilk waffles which were a sweet tooth's dream. My friend ordered the chilli scramble which she loved also. We were thinking of trying their famous ricotta hotcakes but the portion is just too massive and we both don't like cream, if there was a a half serve option that would be awesome!
A very nice place for breakfast and with any crowd. I got the top paddock as a recommendation for a big breakfast.
They definitely do know to get a good thick piece of a bacon and have other meats on point. I just didnt like the inclusion of beet infused onions and the hardbess of the bread. Other than that,it was a good place for good company.
I’m pretty sure Top Paddock is on everyone’s foodie bucket list (locals & visitors)… with good reason. It’s a goodie and well worth the wait (if you don’t book). I ordered the pulled beef Benedict which was super tasty. Lots of dishes we want to return for. Friendly service, delicious food, hot coffee and a variety of sweet treats to take home with you.
Large and Spacious enough that you don’t have to wait too long for a table. Great food and coffee.
If only Top Paddock was around the corner, I would never have to cook again. Beautiful food, impeccable service. Cater to Vegan, veg. Almond cap is the bomb, if I could order ten in one sitting I would. The smoothies also are amazing. Great place to take anyone.
The soy milk latte is so good. The staff are friendly. I order the top paddock which taste great. The portion are too much for a girl.
Top Paddock has been popular for years due to the modern and bright interior, with plenty of tables.
The menu is standard café fare but one of their signature dishes is the hotcake - fluffy and goes well with the ricotta and maple syrup.
The eggs benedict is a little underwhelming. The potato rosti has a crisp exterior, and the pulled brisket is somewhat watery and salty at the same time.
The coffee has a good depth of dark roast flavours, with a tight microfoam.
If you can be bothered with the crowds and the wait, it's worth a visit, just keep your expectations in check from all the hype.
Blueberry & ricotta hotcake ($23)
The top paddock ($24)
Scotch fillet steak sandwich ($25)
Overall ⭐️ 4.5/5 ⭐️
🍴Huge portions (do share!!), insta-worthy food, good service & nice ambiance makes for a great cafe. One of the originals of the #ricottahotcake and it lived up to its fame, being a very fluffy hotcake with slight outer crisp and a nice mix of berries and maple syrup without being overly sweet. #thetoppaddock was a generous big breakfast with a whole range of ingredients (sausage, bacon, onions, relish, tomatoes, poached eggs) that went well together. Only wish was for the bread to be softer and less tough. The #steaksandwich was another winner with the perfect balance of cameralised onion, tender meat, chili dijonaisse in a toasted Turkish bread.
⚠️ A highly popular cafe, do make a reservation in advance to avoid waiting

Super efficient service for a buzzing Saturday morning.
We were expecting to wait a bit but we were seated and served super fast, our meals following not long after.
We ordered the eggs Benedict and chilli scrambled eggs. Both very good dishes. The goats cheese on the chilli scramble was a delicious touch and ten points for the potato rosti on the eggs benedict.
The staff were also friendly, the interior was beautiful and the matcha latte very nice.
Would return 😊
if you're on a holiday and can only make time to visit 1 cafe, you HAVE TO come here. food is really really good and so is their coffee. always crowded so be prepared to wait during weekends. the hotcake is a must here!!!! sooo good
It’s my go to place everytime i feel like having a good brunch on a sunny weekend. The top paddock meal is just next level! Must try!!!
Love the vide of this place. Great food and coffee.
We heard this place gets very busy and I’ve been wanting to try it for ages! We did an F45 class in the morning then went straight to breakfast (8:45am) and easy to get a table! It was getting very busy when we left though! The baked eggs were yum and so were my friends hotcake which I stole a bit of, slightly over priced though! Definitely worth the visit, yum!
A perfect place to get your weekend Brunch! The place is cosy with good seating arrangement. Friendly staff and the meal I had was finger licking good!
I loved my experience at Top Paddock.
I went for lunch with a friend from work and was seated at the bar until a table became available a short time later. Service prompt and the staff were very friendly.
I had the Crushed Avocado & Peas with a side of haloumi and absolutely loved it. The meal was very filling and the pine nut and sumac tarator was amazing.
I would love to return again to try the Blueberry & Ricotta Hotcake which I’ve heard is a crowd favourite.
Truly a great experience. Coffee hot and smooth and the meals were plentiful and cooked to perfection. My husband was raving about his big breakfast. Service was friendly and prompt.
Definitely we will be back !!
Love the ricotta hotcakes here!! Always come here to have their hotcakes 👍🏻 their chilli scrambled eggs were spicy too, definitely recommend if u can take the heat 😋
Everything was good there but will be back just for the pancakes! Moreover, you don’t have to wait for a seat if you book online in advance ! Love the place and atmosphere too!
This was a perfect brunch stop. There were a lot of options to choose from as well as the specials. The coffee was marvelous. Service was friendly and quick despite it was quite busy.
Went here for my birthday, food and drinks were all delicious and instagrammable. We ordered the hotcake, waffles and breakfast salad with haloumi (a definite must) as well as coffee, a dark hot chocolate and green tea. Unfortunately the tea was a little too weak although this was the only flaw. Loved the decor, especially the lighting fixtures and the large tables. Food was a bit pricey but comparable to the portion of the meals. Waiters were all chill yet attentive, making it a lovely experience. Will definitely be returning and would recommend to a friend.
4.5. One of my fav brunch places in Melbourne. Although the wait for a table on the weekend can take a while (and longer than my usual patience), it's one of the few places where I would queue up again for a meal. Everything we ordered was delicious. Excellent quality ingredients, well executed into tasty dishes. Highly recommend.
It's a beautiful restaurant with good natural light and interesting decor. I really like atmosphere in here. We got chilli scrambled eggs with goats curd, it's creamy and tasty, and a little spicy was very appetizing. The big breakfast was also yummy, especially the poached eggs and red onions were delicious. Friendly service and nice coffee!I'd like to return to try the other options.
Just moved around the corner from Top Paddock and now its my to go to for coffee & avo on toast. Absolutely delicious plus they serve oat milk, which is a rare milk to find in some cafes. Love this place.
Sometimes you go to places and quickly realise why they have stood the test of time - 8 years for a cafe is a long time.
Beautiful food - simple, but delicious and quality ingredients. Coffee was amazing and service, even when busy, if effortless - like the systems have been fine turned forever.
While cafes push the boundaries in 2019, Top Paddock is the reliable place you can always suggest when friend ask ‘where should we meet?’. And it never lets you down.
Darling group never lets you down 🤩 But slightly mediocre in comparison to their sister cafe, Higher Ground.
FOOD & COFFEE: I ordered my favourite Blueberry & Ricotta Pancakes as I absolutely LOVED it when I tried it in Higher Ground so I was curious on Top Paddocks. For some reason, the hotcakes at Top Paddock didn’t have as much maple syrup or even ricotta as Higher Ground did and I was slightly disappointed but ngl, this gives me an excuse to keep going to the CBD one HAHAHA! Don’t get me wrong, it was amazing (they’ve never let me down) but I just felt Higher Ground were better in quality. The coffee was amazing however and on par with Higher Ground! Really rich coffee flavour and amazing with soy milk!
SERVICE: Service was prompt but I felt that it wasn’t the best 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe it’s because they are busy because I went on a Saturday but yeah, I felt that it could’ve been better.
Tip: Don’t come hungry on the weekend because be prepared to WAIT. I had to wait around 15 mins to 20 for my coffee which is abit of a wait.
Top Paddock is a beautiful cafe but abit chaotic and not very chill but still a great cafe to visit!
I can see why Top Paddock has such a high score, the food and coffee here was outstanding. My friends and I waited about 20 minutes for a table, we actually arrived at 10am, even at that time the cafe was bustling.
Our waiter was so nice, he had a great positive vibe about him (guy with the mo - thank you!). I am not usually a rosti kind of gal but when I saw the eggs benny with pulled beef on potato rosti I thought, well why not try something different! I took a gamble and I was a total winner! The eggs poached perfectly with the beautiful hollandaise. There were jalapenos with the hollandaise, omg - so good. The beef brisket was just delish and it complimented the rosti which was not oily at all.
My friends enjoyed their meals too, we were all very impressed.
Coffees were spot on.

☑ 8/10! I have to say, they have well and truly lived up to the hype 🤗 slightly in the high price bracket for a few dishes i have to say, however majority of quality cafes are these days 💰 ON the PLUS, and theres a lot of pluses! 😎 absolutely love these chilli scrambled eggs! Generous serve of a delicious, sharp and crunchy chilli oil over a light folded-like scrambled eggs with a creamy goats curd! 🙌🏽 the combination is genius 😉 flavours work together like shaq and kobe! 🏀 the vibe is brilliant, one of the best cafe setups around. Definitely be back to try the rest of their menu 🍽
.
💡 TIP - their BLUEBERRY AND RICOTTA HOTCAKES are your must try sweet treat! 🥞🍭 amazing presentation backed with fantastic flavour! 🙌🏽 tell me how you go! 😉
This place is one of a kind! I was drawn in by its amazing hotcakes but I decided to be a lil different and order the Bircher! And boy I’m glad I ordered it! It was amazing 👌🏽💖
We did our second visit in top paddock..... again the same stunning. This time we order different than last time.
Few dishes not wow for us, crab burger may be it will good to try in evening or dinner not in the breakfast
Black waffle very nice presentation but waffle very dough texture. Extra maple syrup will be good.
Service I can understand we can't except high standards, because they are too busy always still manage to serve their maximum
Over all very good breakfast restaurant in Melbourne.... Thank you Too paddek team you are bit higher than higher ground team
Fantastic setting and brilliant coffee. Menu is a little standard but they certainly make it taste great. Batch brew comes with a little card of coffee origin which adds a nice touch. The hotcake was definitely too big of a serving and could be dialled down. The big breakfast is certainly big, but surprisingly easy to finish.
Tried a matcha latte here for the first time, and I wish they’d mentioned on the menu that it comes with a lot of cinnamon. Not a big fan of cinnamon, and definitely don’t want it in my matcha.
Otherwise, the hot cakes are always awesome here; the soft shell crab burger was the right balance of tangy spicy and crispy!
Been here many times for the coffee and decided to try their lunch. The veggie bowl didn’t disappoint. Chunky pieces of veg, beautifully arranged and tasty.

One of the best brunches in Melbourne ! The hot cakes are to die for, such a treat-yourself kind of dish. Perfect for a cute brunch date or outing with friends
Nice lil cafe. Like the greens and the 0 waste idea. First time Ordered the pancake, Egg bend, and second the paddock. Pancake was really good and looked stunning. Pano cotta and all the other nuts n flours and fruits combined so well. Chai latte and soy latte was good. Not a big fan of the paddock though, the bread was too hard to cut through, and bacon was too oily n salty and the sausage was cold and chewy inside.
Very deceiving, at first glance... Top Paddock is a very large venue with seating arrangements to suit all kinds... Now to the food!
Both order meals were delicious and moorish I ordered the pulled beef, eggs Benedict - which I could of easily devoured two of. My girlfriend ordered the top paddock plate (=Big breakfast) which as you can see from the picture laden with all your hungry tummy could desire!
We washed our plates down with fresh juices. To end our girly brunch date, I couldn’t go past one of their last chocolate peanut-butter dounuts... I mean they had me a dounut 🤣. Top Paddock is a highly desirable spot, which is clearly well known the tables fill just as quickly as they are emptied! So get in early make sure you’re phone is charged as TP
is also an instagrams heaven = good light, picturesque food and vibing atmosphere!
I can’t wait to return.
The breakfast salad lacked seasoning but apart from that there wasn’t really anything to fault about the quality of the food. Coffee was perfect too. Minus one point for the slow service. It took nearly 45 mins after the coffees arrived for the rest of the dishes to be served.
Lovely staff and most importantly food was great! I would love to come back again to try other menus. No hand soap in female toilet so I borrowed it from the ambulant toilet 😂😂
Most recent visit! Really lovely meal, however the pumpkin was missing on my breakfast salad. Still tasty but can’t be missing off items. Would still go back, still loved it.
YES YES YES on sooo many levels.
I went here with a few people and I don’t think I’ve ever had people happier with their brunch! Multiple dishes were ordered and every single one of them was enjoyed!
Eggs benedict, breakfast salad, the top paddock and the noodle salad when that was on the menu. All were great! Looked insanely tasty and tasted quality. The service was brilliant, very friendly and helpful.
One of my favourite brunches yet! Must go back!
9/10
Beautiful venue and excellent service. Great meals with a good menu- lovely brunch. A Melbourne staple that’s for sure. good coffee but last experience coffee could be hotter in their busy periods
We’ve visited Top Paddock a few times over the years and it’s always been amazing. This place is sure to impress with the beautiful fit out, and a fantastic menu.
The black waffles with double whipped cream, lemon curd and cardamom caramelised apples was amazing and such a beautiful balance of flavours.
The yellow fin tuna tacos was incredible, great flavour combination and fresh.
Really good coffee also.
Highly recommend a visit!
It’s always packed but I understand why as the food is quite decent. Once I went there on a 38’C day and the king fish soba was just so perfect for the weather.
I’m having a secret affair with Top Paddock. I live in Sydney but dream of this place often, nothing will ever compare anywhere. During my last visit to Melbourne, I went here on my own (I’ve never been to a cafe on my own but I HAD to go back no matter what). The brûlée French toast was incredible and the coffee was perfection. Can’t wait to return!
I went to TP recently for a work event (excuse the lack of photos, didn’t want everyone to know I was one of those people). The menu has had a bit of a shakeup since it was sold by the Mulberry Group but the classic cult dishes remain. The brisket burger was actually an improvement on the brioche hanger steak sandwich they used to do so I would recommend that. Another thing I enjoyed was seeing a colleague eat the hotcake for the first time. After all you never forget your first time
Original review
Everyone's been to Top Paddock. I liken TP to Chin Chin in that it's been open for years but we are all still lining up for it on a weekly basis. They don't seem to change their menu so having been a few times I try to mix up my order but always come back to the hotcake. Another thing I've enjoyed when craving a savoury option is the juniper lime cured ocean trout. They also do breakfast cocktails which I love. Always a standout but be prepared to wait
The menus changed a few times, maybe not the names but the ingredients definitely. I don’t think the changes were that good. I used to eat the top paddock a lot but when I ate it again this time there were many things I wanted to avoid eating. Just wasn’t that great anymore. However the blueberry and ricotta hot cakes are as good as always.
Heard about it and wanted to try
I Simply loved it!
Great food
Amazing service
And really good coffee
What else could you ask for?
Just 4stars cause $4,20 for an espresso is way too much
We’ll see you again
Thanks
Every time someone comes visit Melbourne from overseas is take them to Top Paddock for coffee and brunch. My favourite place for brunch, their signature cake is amazing although you have to watch for portion as it’s pretty big.
By far one of the best brunch locations in Melbourne. The menu is scrumptious with amazing options. Juices taste so yummy and the staff are beyond helpful and friendly. Well priced and great portions. Would definitely reccomend and go back!
My friend and I met up early Sunday morning 830. The place was quiet but when we left about 1130 the place was packed and there was a line waiting outside. So if you don’t want to wait best get in early.
The service, food and coffee was excellent. We got the ricotta hot cakes and big breakfast. The big breakfast was one of the best ones I’ve had. Every component had lots flavour especially the onions and capsicum. The ricotta hot cakes is def a reliable choice if you want something sweet! The serving however is very big, best to share.
Came here on a rainy Thursday morning and it was busy actually. I really love the atmosphere here and their coffee is quite good. I also love the sauce they put in the salad but it’s a little bit salty.
Before we headed into the restaurant, we gave them a call to ask if there’s a spare table for four (as you know popular brunch places like Top Paddock might get you to wait almost an hour during busy time!) Luckily, it was 11am on Sunday and we only had to wait 10 minutes despite not being able to book a spot (we weren’t allowed to book before lunch time). We sat inside far left corner of the restaurant, and honestly, I felt like every seat in this restaurant would have a different scene and detail of this place. They put so much effort into making this restaurant look beautiful 😍😍😍
Foods were great as well, my favourite was granola!
Top Paddock was also worth the price with so much food in one plate!
Also they do split bills❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great vibe, great food and amazing hot chocolate made our Sunday Brunch very special. What we really like about this place is the 'Zero waste policy'. Practically everything is used of the ingredients in some manner or the other.
Ordered a Top Paddock, Egg Benedict with Pork and Brisket with two hot chocolates and a Moccha.
Clearly, Brisket won everyone's heart at the table. Succulent, juicy and yummy.
The other two were equally tasty but we preferred engg Benedict over the Top Paddock....Had more flavors and elements going for it.
Friendly staff and value for money. Vegans and Vegetarians have decent options to choose from.
Made famous by their hot cakes and obviously there was a reason for it. Big, fluffy and full of flavour. A fairly big venue which always seems to be busy. Friendly staff who are very knowledgeable about the product.
Had a nice coffee and lunch here in the outdoor seating area. Service can be a bit hard to come by. Food was good, nothing spectacular but good nonetheless. On the day I had a pork belly special that was 4/5

We have been to this place a couple of times and still would love to go back. This cafe is very popular among Melbournian and tourists. Be prepare for the waiting time around 30 mins to get the table. This modern cafe has a relaxing vibes.
Last time we went we had the famous blueberry ricotta hotcake (it is huge!!) and the grilled salmon. The food was amazing and so the coffee.
Hotcakes were amazing. It lived up to its expectations, and such a dish cannot be found elsewhere. 10/10 would recommend. However, the coffee was not as nice - I got a long black that wasn’t very hot and a bit too sour. Despite this, I would definitely come again.
Absolutely outstanding!!!!
The service, the food, the metal straws, the coffee!!! There is nothing to dislike about the Top Paddock.
I visited TPs on Sunday for breakfast with the wife, we were quickly given a table for two, the coffee order was taken immediately and arrived immediately, the food was nothing short of sensational and the fruit juice was fantastic!
Thank you TP, I will be back !!!!
Know for their hot cakes, I visited the cafe having high expectations. Although the hot cakes did meet my expectations, finishing the whole throng was overkill for me. I recommend sharing the hotcake between a few people and trying some of their other brunch menu items
The food and service here was absolutely amazing. We were seated at a large share table and even with others there was an abundance of room for us to have a decent distance from them.
We looked at the menu before coming and the array of food was amazing, when arriving they had a newer menu and it was even better than the online one. So I couldn't have been happier.
The place was a little loud for my liking, but due to the weather everyone was sitting inside out of the rain so that was definitely a contributing factor.
I would have loved it the coffee cups were a little bit bigger, but the coffee itself was fantastic. Would definitely return and recommend.
We came here every Friday. I'm glad to give five stars to the the big breakfast which is named The Top Paddock. Only $25 with a large portion includ everything. The special tomato sauce in it has amazing taste, must have a try~
The place has the best atmosphere for dining! I highly recommend the hotcake, it’s very delicious. But the drink isn’t that good, so maybe try more food than coffee.
Finally got to one of Melbourne's most popular cafes. The highly raved Top Paddock. Great service team, warm hospitality and all smiles in spite of the crowd.
We had to walk over to the bar to get someone to take our order. Not a deal breaker unlike some reviews below...
Coffee was below average if we're being honest. Expected more. Hot chocolate was great though!
Ordered the pork belly and the beef brisket. And my oh my, they are definitely better with food.
It was delicious. Beef brisket was soft and tears like freshly baked bread. However, we think it can do with more flavour. Buns were toasted well. Fries were perfectly fried.
Pork belly stole our hearts. If I wasn't fat, I would've ordered another portion. Love the glaze on the veggies and pork. Crackling was really crispy.
Definitely a top choice for brunch if you're in the area!
Came for brunch! Thankfully there were seats available. Service was prompt and there was someone to get us seated and take our orders promptly.
Coffee was not too bad and the food was excellent! Really like the entire vibes and atmosphere of the place as well. Worth a visit for sure.
Filling breakfast, pretty plates, good beverage selection. Decent omni & vegan options.
My friend chose the venue & have no complaints, $$ but food was filling so worth it
