Review Agapi Greek Restaurant - Richmond

Harold Yap
Wow! This might be some of the best Greek food I've ever had. All the classics executed to perfection. I loved the bread and dips, the grilled platter and the stuffed peppers. Highly recommended! You'll love this place!

Agapi was a Greek restaurant best suited for group lunches and dinners. We went here for lunch and ordered a variety of their platters and sides and were not left disappointed. There were a lot seafood and meat dish options and their portions were generous. The saganaki, octopus and prawns/seafood platter were my personal favourites. Service was a bit slow but friendly. Overall we were pretty happy with our dining experience.

I had an average experience here but I expected a bit more as it's quite pricey. The place is a bit overcrowded as we had to squeeze through between tables and chairs. We went for Sunday dinner. Out of 5 dishes we had, I was happy with two which is lamb and pita bread. An okay with two dishes which were grilled goat chesse and beef sausage even though I think portion is quite small compared to the price. Looking forward to have grilled octopus but ... it was really chewy and not pleasant to eat as I had to keep chewing and chewing. The dressing was a bit plain too so we asked for lemon. Service was okay, not overly friendly or cold. They did forget our bread after we had already half of lamb and asked if it's coming. My partner would come back to try another dishes but I probably wouldn't. At least, we tried so you should too.

Delicious selection. Went for a birthday lunch and ordered quite a feast. Very limited vegetarian offerings. Would love to see a few vegetarian options as our group had a couple of vegetarians.

Absolutely excellent! This was such an amazing dining experience. I think the pita bread may be the best I've ever had... And the dips were unreal! Everyone enjoyed their meals; lamb cutlets, mixed grill, stuffed peppers, and octopus. Definitely makes the list of our top favourite restaurants in Melbourne!

Fantastic experience - great service, lovely warm vibe and the food is great. Wine list not too expensive.

This would be the best Greek food I have ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The service was great and the wait staff were extremely friendly. Highly recommend this quaint restaurant in Richmond. My family and I will definitely be going back.

Our group of friends had a great lunch meal here. The service was very good and the food exceeded our high expectations. The various seafood and meat options were delicious and generously proportioned. The restaurant has a cosy feel - we'll definitely be coming again.

This is the first time ive been to Agapi restaurant and the last. We ordered the banquet -60 pp was abit steep for what we got. The dips were ordinary -nothing to rave on about. The octopus so hard you could even chew it -spat it out. The seafood was disgusting -the prawns were over cooked, dry and chewy, the muscles were huge and tastless and the rest didnt bother tasting. The meat platter was ok. The dessert platter -dull -the baklava was soooooo sweet all you tasted was the syrup. The place was really nothing to rave on about-just another boring typical Greek resturant

This place is a Melbourne institution and is a must visit! Food is always delicious and authentic with excellent to match. We love the mixed grill, the calamari, and the saganaki is to die for. Our interstate friends from Sydney specifically request that we take them to Agapi as they don't get this quality up there. Food heaven.

The food was scrumptious and flavoursome especially the seafood platter I ordered... it was just delicious. This restaurant is highly recommended if you love your food-- try to go and worth a visit. It's value for money.

Great small restaurant. Good greek atmosphere and wonderful service. We liked the food and plenty on the plate. The owner was very receptive and coukd not do enough for us. Would recommend.

We love this restaurant, fabulous Greek food. Peter always spoils us with beautiful seafood platters. It's great to visit an authentic Greek restaurant. We highly recommend this venue for good food and exceptional service.

My birthday dinner had awesome night with my gorgeous girl Natasha I definitely come back here love the menu best Greek place I have been too

Fast friendly service, but the food was average. Very noisy & loud in a small confined area. 8 of us squashed in at a table that should be for 6. Could hardly cut my food as my arms were pinned to my sides. First & last time for me.
Tony Power
The service was fantastic, food was quick to come out and it all came together which was what we wanted. Food was for me however was only just so so. However this place was so loud it was uncomfortable. Table of probably 20 next to us upstairs and it became impossible to talk, and I could not get out of there quick enough to the relative quiet of Swan Street on a Saturday night. Feel sorry for the staff, but I won't be rushing back.
Petit Gastounet
Absolutely appalling that they would cancel a booking for 40 people for such an important religious occasion that is so very important in Greek culture - commemorating the passing of a loved one- in favour of a hollow, commercial thing such as Mothers Day. Shameful!
Tammie Rades
Best Greek food I have ever had! Would recommend them to all my friends and family!

What a fantastic place! Was a busy Saturday night but we didn't notice because the food and service were faultless and I will no doubt be back soon. Cheers

I've been here many times before and not once has it ever disappointed. As per usual the food was fantastic, the service was impeccable and the ambience was outstanding. I couldn't fault anything even if I tried. This is Melbourne's most authentic Greek Restaurant and will never let you down.
Voula Tsolakis
Fantastic food, sensational service. The staff went out of their way to accommodate and having a toddler with us was no issue. Will definitely go again.

Agapi has a very intimate vibe, nestled by brick walls from the moment you walk in.<br/><br/>Ordered:<br/>🐙 Grilled Octapodi ($24.00)<br/>🐄 Beef Sausage ($8.00)<br/>🍢 Mixed grill for 1: combination mixed souvlaki, gyros, sausages, keftedes & lamb cutlets with Greek salad ($30.00)<br/>🍗 Lamb oregano: oven baked lamb in oregano sauce ($26.50)<br/><br/>Review:<br/>A very meaty affair, Agapi delivered. We loved the grilled octopus (I would recommend it) because of the perfect chewy texture and the light sauce it sits in. Mixed grill was also a great option to try everything!<br/><br/>Now, for the cautionary bits. The price on the menu and specials board was mismatched (which isn't great for transparency) and the lamb dish we originally wanted was unavailable. The oregano lamb dish also had a heavy lamb smell, so if you're not into that, beware!<br/><br/>The service was friendly and helpful, and there was a constant resupply of iced water. Bless 🤭. Overall it was a good experience at Agapi.

Melbourne is famous for incredible Greek food and Agapi is the reason why. Serving traditional Greek delicacies for 50 years, you know it's gotta be good. I always bring friends here to show off that Greek food is more than a souvlaki.<br/><br/>This time my friends and I had a selection of dips, fresh garlicky pita, saganaki and their signature octopus to start. Then I had the stuffed pepper while they had a selection of meats off the spit plus sausages and Greek meat patties.<br/><br/>Alicia our host could not be more friendly and accommodating. You don't even need to look at the menu because she'll get the chef to prepare what you need. The Cabernet Sauvignon from Greece was smooth and paired beautifully with the meal.<br/><br/>The atmosphere is cosy and always with a hum of laughter and chatter. People always stay way after they've finished their food, you know that's a good sign!<br/><br/>Highly recommended and remember to book because they're always busy!

I had been meaning to dine at Agapi for years and managed to finally get around to making a booking. The food, ambience and service did not disappoint. Would go back in a heart beat.

I had a great experience at Agapi. <br/>A group of us shared the dips, saganaki, mixed grill, seafood platter, salad, calamari & chips. All were delicious and the meat & seafood platters were full of flavour. We left content and full. <br/>Staff were very friendly and made the experience even better. <br/>I would return again and recommend to others if you like Greek food.

A great Greek restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere and lovely serving staff. My guests and I ordered a meat platter for 2, dips for 2, and a serve of Moussaka, and it was plenty for 4 people. This place is at the top end of the budget scale but it's definitely worth it! The meat is perfectly cooked and everything is delicious. Make sure you ask staff for food-drink pairings - the wine recommended to have with the lamb was a wonderful combination. Will certainly return here next time I'm in town for another fantastic meal! It was a bit loud, but that's what you expect from a Greek restaurant on a Saturday night.

Has been a favorite for nearly 20 years. Can offer nothing but 5 stars for this place. Friendly staff with amazing food to the table. Do yourself a favour and book a table here.
The Dear Luncher
That old Comedy Club sketch with Con the Fruiterer is what the name of this establishment reminds The Dear Luncher of. Imagine if an Anglo comedian tried “Greek-facing” in 2018? There’d be outrage. So much Outrage. So chumpy, you could carve it. Agapi is quite inviting. Tastefully appointed, seating options a plenty and the lure of BYO is always a positive. This squadron of portly gentlemen knew it would be banquets all the way. Banquets take the thinking out of the equation. For around the $70 per head mark, there is an expectation that you will be looked after.
George David Michaelides
No love <br/><br/>- pita bread and Tarama was pretty good<br/>Bread not as fresh as I expected <br/>- moussaka was the highlight of the night, a nice home made taste to it.<br/>- saganaki was rubbery and needed about another 5 minutes in the pan<br/>- seafood platter left me feeling meh, two prawns some form of white oily fish and a shitload of mussels and hard calamari wasn’t a great way to spend a Friday night with friends <br/>

Taken the other night by my partner to one of my childhood favs, food and atmosphere at Agapi is still as good as in the 90's when I first went. You can't go wrong!
Dj Meowmeow
I'm shocked and appalled at agapi for cancelling our booking for Yiayia's mnimosimo (one year anniversary of her death) a month after we made it.<br/>Why? for mother's day bookings that are apparently more important than our family's grief.<br/>Shame on you.
Siddharth Jain
The food is great and will recommend it to my friends. Souvlaki and stuffed peppers are pretty good. It is a traditional greek restaurant with good rustic ambience and the owners have paid great attention to details while designing the restaurant.

Super super food! This is one of my folks favourite places to eat and they have been taking us for years. My favourites are the mixed grill platter with dips to start, maybe a side of white bait, absolutely awesome!
Needs More Salt
I’m pretty sure I’m speaking to all Greek food lovers when I say what where looking for is Greek food that means business, I.e charcoal cooked gyros that melts in your mouth, freshly made pita that’s warm on arrival, homemade Tzatziki that is so creamy you eat it by itself, olives that fall apart when they touch your teeth, olive oil which you could literally drink out of a glass and a galaktoboureko that lets face it I think I’d almost kill for it the custard was perfect... so yeah that’s what you’ll get at Agapi hold the fancy pants Greek for now this place doesn’t muck around. P.s BYO favourite red now that’s a winner.

This restaurant offers an intimate dining experience, with delicious Greek cuisine. The fresh seafood on offer was really yummy and the pick of the dishes was the pan fried calamari. The service was very good and all staff were attentive.
MsConnoisseur
We wanted Authentic Greek cuisine as most offer a large portion of food. When we dine with the husbands quantity is important and the servings at Agapi are very generous. Mixed grill and the seafood platter you are guaranteed to have left over. The dips and bread are always a perfect way to start, a nice spread. The grilled pickled octopus was very good. The saganaki was a dry and probably my least favorite, it had chunks of tomato pieces on it, not sure why and what this added to the dish. The Greek salad was Greek salad. <br/><br/>My key 3 Pointers <br/>* Dessert options were baklava and Turkish delight nothing was screaming eat us and seemed very heavy. Unfortunately had to go down the road for coffee and desert <br/>* Food was good but something about the bill made me question why it was so expensive. Quantity over quality may have been the thought <br/>* I wish we were downstairs, upstairs felt a little disconnected from the vibe, not as warm and inviting

All time favourite. This place will never let you down. Have been here a few times. Agapi is consistent with the standard of their food. Their octopus grill is amazing too

I booked a table here for me and some colleagues for our own Christmas lunch. We arrived and the places was packed inside. They tried to squish in a little table but that would’ve not been very pleasant so we decided to sit outside. It turned out to be a pretty hot day so I endured on the sunny side of the table whereas the others squeezed all on the other bench to sit in the shade - not the best experience considering we booked a table. We went with the chef selection and got plenty of food. The oysters were delicious as was the mixed meat platter but personally not a massive fan of the seafood platter. Dessert wasn’t too great either but lovely service and they even topped up the left overs that we took in a doggy bag.

Such a cute little restaurant with a great atmosphere and vibe. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. The food is exactly what you'd expect from Greek food.. delicious and authentic! Will be returning!

Agapi is the epitome of an old-school Greek restaurant that dishes up authentic Mediterranean cuisine.<br/>From the generously sized portions, to the well-spiced and flavoursome traditional items like the Moussaka and Mixed Grill, you are bound to leave having satisfied both your tastebuds and your hunger!
Nikki
From first entering this stunningly presented establishment I was welcomed like Greek loyalty and I'm not Greek! Brilliant ambience and welcome by Tim! <br/>Great rapport built to start off with and trust built for Tim to take ordering to next level ordering for us after qualifying what we like and don't like ..<br/>Brilliant selections of dips and saganaki to start with and I tell you it set a high standard, after mains of lamb chicken calamari prawns and everything else in between like amazing Greek salad I was certain this was best Greek food I've ever had!!! I have been to Greek islands too so very big call to make!<br/>Would I recommend - hell yes! Great customer service , astonishing food, amazing ambience and welcoming feel and affordable with decent size serves I would of gone over a 5 if it was possible! <br/><br/>Thank you Agapi I'll be back!!!

Don't go there!! Very rude owner whose arrogance outweighed the very bad experience we had there tonight. Booked a week ago, was placed upstairs when a huge group of 30 people arrived, loud and acting as though the area was for them alone. Complained to owner who was even ruder than the large group of people. The table next to us left in protest but owner again refused to acknowledge their departure. He Argued with us ... paying customers .... and is only interested in filling seats/ money. No service , no class, no apology, feel sorry for wait staff. Stay away!!!

Beautiful Greek restaurant located in Richmond. It's casual and cosy. The service was outstanding and friendly. Authentic home style cooking with charm. The moussaka and the Kalahari and dips platter were tasty and delicious. It never ceases to amaze me and make sure you go.
Tammi
Great service, nice ambience but food wasn't worth the price. Calamari was very chewy and saganaki too hard. Was talked into the banquet by the owner from the moment we stepped in. Enjoyed the environment just not worth the price we paid
Chef Gabriel
Greek traditional cuisine. Always a pleasure to visit. It's an institution. We had a great night out. The food was excellent and the service was prompt and efficient. Waiters were informative and friendly. The seafood platter was magnificent. Recommend this highly and will go back.

To me, Agapi is everything that is right with Greek cuisine. With Richmond having a rich history of greeks, it's fitting that Agapi can serve up some timeless dishes. My personal favourite is the mixed grill. Tasty servings of a variety of meat. That's greek heaven to me baby!
Monde
Cosy little restaurant with friend staff and great service. Lovely home style Greek food full of flavor. Calamari and hand cut chips were a hit with the kids.
ToFeedTwo
ToFeedTwo came to a beautifully presented, cosy & warm restaurant in the heart of Richmond to celebrate the better half of ToFeedTwo's 25th birthday!<br/><br/>Authentic Greek food is what we found, and thoroughly enjoyed. Our entree of saganaki was fantastic, and our mains were very nice. For the mains, The meat on the mixed grill was simply top notch; full of herbs & spices and melted in your mouth. The Moussaka was traditional and very flavoursome, topped with a red sauce that also added flavour to the baked vegetables. The only downside was ordering a plate of chips - which was rather underwhelming with a total of 16 chips - the plate looked quite bare - lol!!<br/><br/>A cute restaurant with good, traditional Greek food. Yum yum - and Happy Birthday to one half of us 🎉🎉

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Traditional Greek cuisine which was very delicious, but not the best I've had. Would definitely recommend.

Wow.. the food here is outstanding... so much flavour and the ingredients are very fresh. Service is very friendly and meals don't take too long to come out. Well worth a visit.
Lily
Always a big feast when I come to agapi! Just don't bother with the menu and ask the waitstaff for a meat or seafood platter! The bonus is that you can BYO! The negative is this place is that the service is on/off... some nights I've been I had to ask the waitress 4-6 times to come and take our order, while other times they've been super friendly and quick. Overall simple Greek food without any fuss.
Nikita
I've been here many times before and not once has it ever disappointed. As per usual the food was fantastic, the service was impeccable and the ambience was outstanding. I couldn't fault anything even if I tried. This is Melbourne's most authentic Greek Restaurant and will never let you down. Food comes out fast, and it's not because it's pre-cooked as some people have said below, its because its shredded meat off a spit, which means it's been cooking non-stop. This is the authentic way of eating Greek food. You won't be disappointed. You can't go wrong with the meat platter, but of course, if you're one of these rare meat kind of people, then go elsewhere, because that's not authentic Greek.
Bec Martinez
An old favourite of mine, always great friendly and fast service. <br/>Delicious food, the dips are a must before main meal and of course Saganaki. <br/>
Kylie Angelika
Visited here with a friend this week...by accident! Through the evening the waitresses were really lovely, but that's about where the niceties end. We ordered olives to start which were more-ish. We then ordered the mixed grill, a Greek salad, and were encouraged to order tzatziki as well. I think the push for the tzatziki was because she knew the meat was going to be dry. The mixed grill came out suspiciously fast, and upon inspection and taste it was evident why. It had all been pre-cooked. The gyros meat was dry and crunchy, and while nothing had a bad flavour, it was just dry and not that enjoyable. Sorry, but we won't be back.
Tony
Came here for a birthday. Nice little old school restaurant. We did the banquet. Dips and breads solid. You would hope so. Octopus i am still chewing? The meat platter was ok with the sausage my favourite. Lamb and beef cooked to an inch of its life. Chicken not much better. Couldn't be bothered with seafood. The volume of garlic was way too much. Will take a month to get out of my system. Dessert not much better
Helen
It was a warm night and we were really looking forward to Agapi.  The main problem here was the NOISE - it was deafening.  I could not even hear my friend speaking across the table for two!  The floors are wood and packed in so it was really too much.<br/><br/>The food was good, but very little of it for the price.  We shared dips and had one main course each and the bill was $90 without wine.  We had mineral water which was $10.<br/><br/>The service was good, but not being able to even speak to each other was definitely a turn off when you are wanting to catch up.
Dublinese
We really enjoyed the food here. The staff was friendly and the services is very quick. The food is price really good. We had the seafood platter for 2 and we couldn't even finished it.

The interior in this place really provides you with the reality of a restaurant in Greece ♡ it is adorable! The souvlaki is satisfying and the waiters take care of you when you come here and eat. The meat is always very tender!
Harrykarakinos
Good Greek food, reasonable prices and byo. Awesome setting. Suitable for small functions upstairs. Succulent souvlaki a must if not the mixed grill. Delicious!

According to Zomato and their website this restaurant offers some vegan options. My boyfriend booked a table for 8 of us and as my sister and I are vegan he made sure to research if this place had some options for us which it claims it did. When we arrived I noticed that the one vegan main which is on the website was not on the menu in front of me. I proceeded to ask the waitress what the vegan options were and she seemed extremely confused and went to ask the chef upon her return she informed me that they could offer me a greek salad minus the feta and they might be able to give me some potatoes. I was extremely annoyed and our table of 8 were forced to leave due to the false advertising of this place! Therefore none of us ate anything and we were forced to leave. The manager was shocked to see us all go and asked us why, once we informed him he protested and said but we can give you a salad and potatoes and my boyfriend asked him if he thought that was worthy of a meal out and he agreed that it wasn't. Thankfully we found a table at Fonda! You really should update your website and this false advertising of "vegan options" also discredits Zomato as well.

Lost a whole point due to the volume. Please do not go on a date here unless you enjoy yelling. Difficult to park near to the restaurant.<br/>The food was all very delish - calamari, whitebait, mixed grill, beef moussaka and the lamb in tomato dish!<br/>Service was just ok, nothing spesh.<br/>I would come here again for the flavoursome food.
3121Foodie
I quite like Agapi. The seafood platter to share is very good value at about $60 for two. The fish, prawns and calamari are always cooked very well. I don't love the whitebait that comes with it, but that might just be me. Always happy to go back.

My boyfriend and I went to agapi last night and had a great night , the waiter was very friendly and helpful to us , the food was amazing would absolutely go there again. <br/>
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Situated on the quieter side of Swan St, family-owned Agapi has been around since 1968, and under the current owners for over 20 years. Dark, bare brick gives off a warm and homely feel, and the upstairs section is popular for family functions.
Expensive Delicious Habit.
The venue is intimate, with exposed brick walls, dim lighting and soft music. Very romantic!  We were warmly greeted and a plate of dips quickly materialised. Perfect! No pretention or loud music here, just simple Greek food done well. Enjoy!
Gastrology
Located on bustling Swan Street in Richmond, Agapi serves up delicious rustic offerings that are inspired by the streets and beaches of Greece. The restaurant offers quality dining within a relaxed atmosphere. The use of communal dining spaces and a focus on share plates nods to the venue’s strong roots in Greece, where meals are a fun, social and a celebratory affair.
Andrew Collins
Great selection of food that had plenty of taste and variety. Some of the best Greek food I have had.<br/>Service was excellent and we defiantly we more than satisfied with the amount of food in the banquet.
Peter
Been a casual diner at Agapi for yonks. It's a great casual Greek restaurant that's been consistent for years. Can't fault the food or ambience. We're creatures of habit and always order the same food - mixed dips, saganaki and gyros. Never disappoints. More than reasonable markup on wines too. Their Pizzini Pinot Grigio is $35. Dan sells it for $21. Anywhere else it would be over $40.
Caz Melb
Certainly far from what I consider as good Greek food. It make it worse, it was way overpriced. We had the banquet. Usually Greek banquets make you roll out of the restaurant, satisfied. This time I was not even full when I left and I'm definitely not a big eater to begin with. For the high price and small quantity, you'd think maybe it's compromised by good presentation... Well, you don't get that either. Dips were overpowered by garlic. Bread was nice. Meat platter was very average and the rest was not worth mentioning. The Greek donut was chewy because it was reheated in the microwave. The most enjoyable thing from the whole meal was probably the Fix lager. Don't think I'll be going back, and won't be recommending it to any of my friends.
Jessica Evans
I love Agapi! Traditional Greek food always fresh, homemade and tasty. It's a really warm and inviting place and I'm always impressed with the waitress Alicia - who goes above and beyond when it comes to making us feel looked after and at home. Thanks Agapi - we will be back! :)

10/10 Every time<br/><br/>It's not the first time I've been and it definitely won't be the last! Took my partners Mum here for Mothers Day and she thoroughly enjoyed herself . Home made dips #madewithlove and Saganaki to start followed by gyros and calamari and finished off with baklava and ice cream . The Lamb melts in your mouth (drool) and the calamari is the real deal. Staff are always on top of there game very attentive and knowledgable. <br/><br/>See you soon Team Agapi <br/><br/><br/>

No one does it better! <br/><br/>WOW!!! My family and I came here for the first time for Mothers Day lunch! Can't believe I have been missing out on this gem for all these years. The food is absolutely outstanding! Lamb and chicken were to die for as was the Octopus ( tasted as good as it looks on Insta !)The staff in this place know there job inside and out, always smiling and soooo accommodating A1 service .Unbelievably fantastic experience and will definitely be back. <br/>Thanks Agapi team for making this day extra special

Love going to Agapi for the mix grill, dips, potatoes & saganaki always delicious. Great place to go with friends & family. Family favourite.

Two of us arrived on a Saturday night without a booking and were able to get a table. The waitress that served us was lovely and very helpful. The food was very authentic and reasonably priced. Very filling and generous portions. The meat platter for one was more than enough for both of us with some sides.
Sandra Agelis
Had the pleasure of dining at Agapi tonight and the food was amazing. We ordered the banquet for 10 people which came out in a timely manner and the staff were extremely friendly and the decor was great, thoroughly recommend it to everyone. Thanks Agapi

Really disappointing. I dined here on St. Patty's day for a friend's birthday. Our waiter was one of the rudest I've had the displeasure to be 'served' by in a long time. As someone previously wrote, he was disinterested in life let alone attempting decent customer service. He argued with my friends, rudely asked "what do ya want?" and rolled his eyes when I placed my order (moussaka). <br/><br/>A man in his 60's who's clearly been working in the field for many years has absolutely no excuse for this behaviour, particularly when my group were all very polite. Behaviour I would perhaps expect from a moody teenager. <br/><br/>The food was overcooked, oily and had little flavour. My oily moussaka was probably one of the better dishes. But at $26 this was very overpriced for the quality. My friend ordered the chicken souvlaki, which came out with no bread/wrap. This should have been specified on the menu. <br/><br/>The wine list was OK, but very expensive at $10 a glass. <br/><br/>The only saving grace were the dips which were very good, despite coming out with very little bread and they then charged us for extra bread (despite paying the full price for four people when the bread didn't cut it for two!). Saganaki was chewy and rubbery. <br/><br/>Overall, very disappointing experience and we all left with a bad taste in our mouths. Ironic that our rude waiter scoffed at the mention of Jimmy Grants (clearly bitter) and said it wasn't a "real restaurant" yet I would argue the quality of JG is well above their own, and charges very reasonable prices. <br/><br/>Agapi need to wake up and take a few lessons from their superior competitors.
Paul Flynn
Simple greek food, done well. We had a mix of seafood and meat and it was all pretty tasty, aside from the lamb souvlaki type meat that was pretty average. Service was a little rude - nothing too bad, just not overly warm or friendly.
CU_Foodie
We went on a balmy Saturday night with a group of 4 (2 of which were regulars). This is simple but delicious Greek food, you basic old school. Favourites were the dips, saganaki and octopus. I didn't love the meats but will try a different cut next time. Fantastic place to drop in with BYO wine. A good, easy, affordable restaurant.
Matt McCullough
Surprising this place is able to stay open in Melbourne when they are charging high rates for terrible food. Really the worst meal I've had out in living memory.<br/>$25 for what I could have got for $8 at the Souvlaki place on the corner - The 'fish of the day' my partner had was clearly what they had fished out of the freezer today.<br/><br/>There was nothing good about any of it. Sounds harsh but just telling it like it is - walk another few meters up Swan St and you can't help but find somewhere  far better.
Jess Jensen
Best Greek food and great service! Have never had a bad meal here. The meat platter is delicious and the serving size is pretty large. The waiters have always been nice and really helpful with recommendations. Would highly recommend :)

Agapi is yum!<br/>I have been here twice for lunch. Although the places seems tiny, it is feels warm and cozy. I have had the grilled calamari, hot pita bread, all the dips, saganaki, greek salad and moussaka (we were a lot of people) and each and every dish was YUM.<br/>I loved the moussaka to the core.<br/><br/>The staff is very friendly too<br/><br/>It is one of the must visit places.

Arrived on time at 7pm tonight.  Ordered a bottle of wine to enjoy a nice dinner for a birthday at 7.10pm.  Ordered entrée and main meals at 7.12pm from a waiter totally disinterested in life, let alone his job. Our meals all came out at 7.18pm all together.  Our poor wine however was still stuck in the back warming off.  Meals done at 7.30pm.  Dessert menu thrown on the table at 7.31pm.  What to do with the 3/4 of a bottle of warmish Rose in the back??  What I'm trying to say is this was probably the most pathetic service/meal I've had the pleasure of sitting down to in quite some time.  No doubt Jimmy Grants (which serves much better food at a fraction of the price) opening up around the corner has caused some nerves.  Wake up!  You are not a fast food joint when you charge $120 for meals, no matter if they are wheeled out in less than 3 minutes of ordering.Used to enjoy long fun dinners here.  Tonight was just pathetic and will never come back.  Oh, and when the loud rotund manager moved a family from the front window to allow his friends to sit there instead......that was a perfect example of how poor this place is.Enjoy if you like waiters making you feel horrible and if you enjoy spending $150 on a 30 minute meal.

Recommended by some friends we went and tried this place. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the shared plate menu between 6 of us and although extremely full at the end with the amount of food, the meat was overcooked, overseasoned and fish in a similar boat. The dips and bread were fantastic and the desserts were typical greek fare. We tried again just my partner and I ordering a la carte and found the issues to be the same. Maybe we were unlucky and had off nights as I still have friends who have gone and loved it.

Third time this month,<br/>Food is always great, service always friendly.<br/>Calamari a highlight. Saganaki a salty favorite, just wish it was good for me.
Amant De La Nourriture
Absolutely wonderful. Made a last minute booking and unfortunately traffic was terrible. Arrived there last minute and the service and food was wonderful. Thank you for an excellent dinner. Octopus was one of the best I've ever had!
Andrew
Not a bad little place - good simple Greek peasant style food. The kind of food you can picture a little old Yiayia making out the back.  I got the Yemista (stuffed capsicum), which was lovely. Prices were reasonable and the setting is nice. I'd go back.
Beccy's Adventures
Been here twice and on both occasions, the food and service has been spot on. Great quality seafood, so fresh I could taste the ocean when eating it. Meat is also good, very well cooked and tender. <br/>We had the same floor staff on both visits and each time they were always friendly and helpful. The owner is a nice guy. <br/>Highly recommended.
TJ Chigumadzi
Decent food and service. Not the best I've ever had but it's worth checking out. The space itself is a little small so not the best place for more than two or three people.
Jessica Wolf
This place is the best Greek restaurant in Melbourne by far!!! The staff and management always look after us! Tasty food and highest of quality!
Gdkf
Food was average at best. Only warm and veggies overcooked! Disappointed!
Larry Heath
Food very disappointing. Food didn't not appear to be freshly cooked, was only warm. Salad was poorly presented. Would not return or recommend

What a place, walked straight in and got a table straight away, waiter came out and was a dead ringer for Vince Colosimo. He was attentive, well spoken and always willing to answer questions about the menu. The food was great and the waiter even gave us a discount due to some loud laughers near bye. Recommend for an experience.

Amazing. Absolutely beautiful food, friendly and welcoming staff and just such a nice little venue for anyone to enjoy, single, couple, family or friends.
C_achilleos
Definitely Recommend. Great food, descent priced, awesome service. Would recommend to anyone who is a after a satisfying feed.
Kia
Amazing food and great value for money, loved the dessert! I highly recommend Agapi, had a wonderful night with great service.
Alicia Karavidas
Absolutely fantastic! The food is just quality and the service is just equally as brilliant. Can't wait to go back!

All Good Things!. A great little place! Took my mum there for her birthday before we went to the Katy Perry concert last week and we both really enjoyed it. Fairly reasonably priced and they let you BYO. The food was yummy, we shared a saganaki, spiced lamb and beef mousaka AND the service was excellent the food was fast, it had a relaxed vibe and the waitress we had was lovely. She even bought us out a dessert to share before we left which was on the house! Will definitely be telling people to go there and will also be back soon for another great experience :)
Kathryn
Was disappointed with the meal here. The main meal, served on a platter like you'd get in a Greek kebab shop. The $25 price tag a bit tough to chew when it's basically takeaway food. <br/>Won't be back

So this place serves dolmades from a can...how do I know. Because I make them at home and at times have been caught eating them from a can when I need a feed in a hurry. Its really poor form to charge 12 bucks for something that is about 4 bucks for a can. the ones from a can have overcooked vine leaves and are practically soggy. They also are characteristically squished and the can juices are the starchy green olive oil. heating them up and drizzling with lemon doesn't warrant them being served in a restaurant. Its not a school canteen.<br/><br/>If you cant be bothered preparing them, don't serve them. Really unimpressed.
Karine
Average. Went there for lunch. The lamb souvlaki was quite average: pieces of lamb, potato wedges and salad. Lamb was slightly overcooked. The dish was quite pricey too, as it cost $25. Service was great however.

Fully Greek. My experience of Agapi was fantastic. We left the food up to Tim (our waiter) while we took care of the merrymaking. The food itself was as good Greek as I've had anywhere in Melbourne. Authentic and rustic. The Mythos and food kept comin. It was Greek on tap. Fantastic! The atmosphere is what you make it...we made it boisterous. The service was impeccably European. Confident without being overbearing. Agapi, you'll be my regular for all my tinder dates!
Darryl Peterson
Loved it. I was at Agapi last night with 13 of my dinner group friends and we had the best food, service and atmoshere. I am pretty much a regular here and I have never been disappointed. I eagerly await my next visit to Agapi. Thankyou so much the staff at Agapi.
Hugo Morgan
This is the Mixed Grill Platter. Tender juicy lamb, succulent beef and tasty chicken are beautifully accompanied by a fresh, vibrant Greek salad.

Not happy. Booked a work function on Saturday night for 12 people. Ended upstairs next to a rowdy birthday function ( yes they sang happy birthday at a shout) and there just wasn't enough room for either the patrons or the wait staff - who tried their best.<br/><br/>Food was average.<br/><br/>Overall, the combination of an inconsiderate group of diners and poor facilities, made this a night to forget.
Mugsie
Lovely food and wonderful cosy atmosphere. We had a family dinner here and loved the cosy atmosphere, with the dim lighting, crackling fire and buzzing energy of all the other diners. Wait staff were attentive and funny and we felt so comfortable with them that we let them do most of the choosing and were not disappointed.<br/><br/>The quality of the food was excellent (fried octopus a liiiitle chewy but still good) and the price at the end of the night was reasonable for the amount and standard of food.<br/><br/>I would definitely go again - what a gem!
Pipekar
Great Greek food. Great tasty Greek food, probably one of the best in town. Make sure you book in advance and be mindful of the price list to avoid surprises, especially when order entrees.
MC
Not Very Good. We love Greek food but this restaurant falls short. Calamari and lamb were overcooked. Wait staff very pleasant. Expensive for what we got. Second visit here. We weren't overwhelmed first time but thought we would give it another try. No plans to return.
Hojo.date
Dispapointed customer. I went for dinner with my family on 11 May 2014 as we are fans of Greek food and had been to the restaurant next door on several occasions so thought we would give Agapi a try.<br/>The food was average and service appalling. We had to constantly asked to be served and it appears that if you were known to the proprietors or were of Greek origin you had no problem being served. I would never go back and would never recommend this restaurant given that right next door at Salona the service and food have always been very good.
Rfsharp
A disappointment. Booked and visited the restaurant on Saturdayb3 May. Appeared popular however a restaurant that butchers seafood. The seafood was dry, overcooked and inconsistently cooked. Seriously basic. Would not recommend on any level and will certainly not return.
Mel...
What a night!!!!. Ate here tonight , three of us. Waitress greeted us smiling from ear to ear, sat down and she recommended greek beer.... Awesome beer!!! The waitress walked us through the menu and we went with her recommendations... Absolutely beautiful.. . Start to finish superb!! Waitress was one of the best...We left with the same ear to ear smile...

Fabulous Girls Night out at Agapi
Libby Lyons
This was quite possibly the worst restaurant I have been to in years. The food was vile. The calamari was so chewy it was inedible. The fish we we told was baked whole. It was filleted and cold. Quite simply stay away the food was disgusting.
Rzofoli
Rzo. Best greek in Melbourne! great staff, great service and amazing food. Keep going back!
Kim Lahanis
Amazing food with traditional Greek dishes. Prices a bit high
Kate
Dinner with friends. Great service, food and atmosphere! They also organised a table without a reservation on a Saturday night and didn't keep us waiting too long. Will definitely go back.
Jkydas
Amazing. Agapi is an iconic restaurant in Richmond ... the staff are super friendly and the food is always amazing. Cool room is tiny at the rear which ensures fresh food ... seafood is great and the lamb is irresistible. The selection of wines is great ... who ever put this list together must love their wines.
Chris Kearon
The service was great, food fresh and authentic. Lovely experience!
Katie13
Not what it used to be. Expensive, super oily, soggy main dishes (moussaka & baked lamb) and a bland, tasteless seafood platter. Many years ago this restaurant was stunning, but alas no more.
Kathleen Boxall
Yum yum yum Great food. .... Yum yum yum<br/><br/>Great food. Good service, treated like a regular after 3 visits...<br/><br/>Still full after dinner last night... <br/><br/>Definitely book...
Ayla
Avg and very garlicky, potatoes were raw. Has potential to be great love the set up and size of front of house but it's the small things that let the place down especially with what you're paying- can get better Greek elsewhere for same price. Really like the faint Greek music and lovely atmosphere
Layla
Very nice Greek food. Not over the top, serving sizes are perfect and price is reasonable. We went for a birthday and enjoyed the food. Would definitely go back!!!
Michael
Well and truely overpriced! Meat was dry, some of it cold. Grilled calamari was a complete rip off.
Xikan
Could be better. While the food was good, simple things like having fresh lectures on a plate was missing. It's comes downs to the details.
Renaeashlea
Its been a favourite for years
Douglas Crellin
For the price, you expect the food to be a little bit better quality. The mixed grill was over-cooked and dry. The prawns were average, even the Greek salad was disappointing. One Olive and the dressing was water. Happy Mothers Day!!
Soula Baboula
The best Souvlakia in Melbourne***. Excellent food, fresh, tasty, and bloody delicious. There lamb souvlaki is to die for. The dips are delicious homemade and worth coming here for a lovely night. Octopus, saganaki, is so yummy you don't want to share with your family. See you soon Agapi.... Taste buds give you 10 out 10 from me.
Rcs
The food was so good it made us not talk to each other during dinner. The eggplant dip is a MUST try. Will go again!

It's All Greek to Me!. This place has gone from the place where I used to go when Salona (next door) was full but has become my go-to greek in Richmond. Always seem to order the same thing which is unusual for our group but you just can't go wrong with the saganaki, dips, and a selection of mains from the grill. Thanks this time to Tim and Aleisha who directed us away from over-ordering and kept us entertained the whole time. Love that you can BYO here (currently $6 bottle) as many others do in this strip (except Salona actually) and makes it a great option for quality cheap and cheerful in case this is what you are after. Keep it coming guys- it keeps us coming in!
Courtney
This was possibly the worst Greek food I've had in Melbourne. Considering the prices and reviews I expected a lot more. Two of us ordered saganaki to share, a small salad, prawns and chicken skewers. The chicken was bland and prawns were so over-cooked we didn't finish them. The Greek salad was not traditional and was mainly iceberg lettuce. $100 later we walked away hungry due to the tiny serve sizes (4 prawns and a handful of chicken). We went elsewhere for dessert.

This is what I loved about dinner at agapi... 1. The most perfect waitress I have EVER experienced... We didn't look at the menu once and got exactly the right food and the right amount of food!!! 2. The food was great and 3 the atmosphere was fun great vibe great resteraunt
John Paganis
Cosy and tasty!. I went there with a group of 14. The waiting was excellent, we felt as though we were royalties! The food was magnificent. The tzatziki and saganaki were superb with a constant flow of nicely cooked pita bread! The seafood was nicely cooked and the mixed grill mouthwatering. I will definitely go there again and again. It's small size was in fact a plus for us as we felt cosy and comfortable. Excellent service, reasonable prices. Well done to the Agapi team!
Anuj Batra
Good but over rated. We didn't see the upstairs seating but quite cramped downstairs where we sat. Service was fine, dips were nice and so was the mixed grill but wouldn't rate it the best i have seen. Overall it was nice but not great.
Siobhán Pillai
This place is really sweet... The staff were really friendly and happy to give us as much time as we needed. We had saganaki and grilled calimari to start - both were delicious. We each had the simple grilled fish with Greek salad - while it was nice, for what we got, $26 was probably a bit steep. Overall, it was a very positive dining experience though.
Silvia Sk
It is a beautiful cosy place with great food. The dips are the perfect start especially the Taramosalata and with the warm fresh pita it was just mouthwatering. The mixed grill had tender delicious pieces of meat and was a good size. The price was also very reasonable. Definitely going back
Rocket 3805
Went there for the darl's birthday in a party of four. The dips are to die for as are the seafood and mixed grill platters. The service was second to none, a great place for a long weekend lunch shared with wine and family or friends. We will be back!
Jason Baker
Grilled Blue Eye and Greek salad for lunch. In training. This is what champions eat... Love=Agapi
Johnny K
Small cosy restaurant with decent food. Price was reasonable, quantity sufficient... taste was great & service was friendly.

6/10 - Seafood platter was good, but meat platter was dry. Due to lack of planning, our original restaurant of choice was closed for a private function, so we decided to give Agapi a try. We ordered the dips, seafood platter for 2, meat platter for 1 and a greek salad.<br/><br/>The seafood platter was well cooked with fresh produce. The whitebait was crispy and delicious although the scallop which I had was overcooked. Apart from that pretty happy with the seafood platter.<br/><br/>The lamb on the meat platter was disappointing though. It was dry and tough and as it was the bulk of the platter, even 4 adults couldn't finish it. The rest of the meat platter was acceptable, but nothing to rave about.<br/><br/>We had the mixed dips which I thought was a bit dear for the price. Basically about a dessertspoon and a half of each of the 4 dips for $14. Bread not included, it was $2 on the menu, but I only found out later we were charged $6 for 3 serves. I know it is a restaurant, but considering we get a bag of similar bread everytime we go to Sydney Rd Lebanese, $6 is a bit rich for pieces of flat bread.<br/><br/>The other noteworthy point about this dips is that they surely like their garlic. Garlic fans will love it, but better have some tic tacs hand aftewards. 3 out of the 4 dips were loaded with garlic, a bit too much in my opinion. The egglplant dip just tasted of garlic instead of eggplant.<br/><br/>Overall I would give it a 6/10. Good seafood platter, but nothing else that would bring me back.

Krod. Had dinner for 8 here for a birthday 27/12/11, excellent service, our waitress was wonderful, food was great, a pleasant evening all round. thankyou Agapi.
Bruce
Havent been for over 12 months. Last time great. This time terrible. 4 of us all had food that was very dry & over cooked - particularly the lamb. Service was bizarre - 3 of us had finished our starters & had our plates cleared whilst the other still waited for his. The table next to us were complaining that one of their mains didn't turn up at all. Won't go back. Recommend u give it a miss.
The_d_rock
Professional Service. Just to preface there were five of us at the table - this is an excellent restaurant if you put yourself in the hands of the wait staff and let them organise shared starters, shared platters for mains and a couple of dessert items. With a few drinks thrown in.<br/>We had saganaki, dips, bread and octopus to start - the dips were super strong flavours and the saganaki is always great, but you have to eat it fast because it is best hot.<br/>For mains we shared a small meat platter and a large seafood platter - see the photos.<br/>Dessert was just a piece of turkish delight each and a piece of custard slice each with a coffee.<br/>Anyway I liked it and it was a fun night out.
Uqui
Yummy. Went in a medium sized group so booked ahead. They kindly rang earlier in the day to confirm so that was a nice touch. The group all loved the food and the hot pita bread and dips is a really nice way to start the meal. If you have left over dip, just get some more bread. We didn't go for any banquet but the individual meals were great. The spiced lamb was a favourite as was the stuffed peppers. We all had dessert, which was nice but the baklava wasn't quite as sticky as I like. Service was good but a little pushy at times. Okay, we are a medium group and sometimes noisy with the conversation but the sit up and tell me now attitude was a bit grating. Good evening though and the food is reasonably priced.
Georgia Kilopoulos
The food was amazing, but definitely not enough of it, for the price we paid iand having four males on one table the amount of food supplied was dissapointing especially for a Greek restaurant. The waitresses were rude and didn't care that we were paying customers either . Probably wouldnt go there again especially in a group of 15!!
Jo
Amazing!. A brilliant experience all round - such warm, welcoming, friendly service, tastiest Greek food I have ever had and a really authentic feel to it. Be warned though you won't be able to stop eating and you are likely to leave feeling rather full!! The dips and saganaki starter unreal!! The mixed grill and moussaka a must!!
Blackshadow
I've eaten at Agapi a couple of times a year for the past five years and can't fault the place. <br/><br/>The service is stellar, friendly and attentive, without being in your face and there are the personal touches of remembering preferences. Great atmosphere and very good (without being outstanding) traditional Greek fare. <br/><br/>I'll definitely keep coming back for more.
Matt
Went for dinner here on a cold blistery Monday night, and what a pleasant suprise this was, friendly staff, with hearty food to match!! Was the perfect cosy place to have some authentic Greek cuisine, highly recommend if you after a satisfying feast....
Gracefully Grazing...
Yasas!. Great little bustling spot!<br/>Fabulous food! We had the banquet and even the Greek couple we went with were impressed.<br/>The restaurant was packed, part of the fun.<br/>Given we are just about to zip over to Greece we thought we would give it a go.....highly recommend...beware of the Raki...
Nesta Aristidou
Cosy environment.. With a slightly dark setting. Coming from a Greek heritage and having eaten Greek food my whole life.. The food here was fantastic! Probably the best Greek meze I've had in Melbourne... The dips and saganaki for the entre was exceptional! Definately eating here again very soon!
Michelle
The rudest abrupt waiters & waitresses ever. Food is overpriced and just average. A great way to spoil a night out. Very very rude people who snarl instead of smile
Geoff
Great food!. A very popular restaurant with great food.<br/>I can heartily recommend the pickled octopus, whitebait and saganaki as a prelude to delicious lamb and/or seafood mains.<br/>Small but reasonably priced wine list and friendly staff make this an all round good value for money dining experience.
Laura Sellitti
Banquet heaven. Went here for my birthday dinner- they let me change the booking numbers without a hassle, which is rare these days. We all ordered the banquet- it was delish. <br/><br/>Best points: they let us take a breath in between courses. The dips were amazing, best Tarama i've had in a while. Saganaki is always going to be delish.. Oh, and the seafood platter had huge prawns on it, which you dont usually find. shame I dont eat them....<br/><br/>Worst points: was a bit dark in there, and they didnt explain what was on the meat platter.... awkward<br/><br/>All in all, I'd go again. Definately recommend for a function

Delicious home made Greek food complete with the authentic grumpy waiting staff (in a charming way which takes you back to the old country). BYO. Recommended. Stuffed peppers are amazing.
