Thank you to the wonderful staff there. Customer Service par excellence! The food rates as one of the best fusion Thai restaurants that I am aware. Every morsel is a burst of amazing flavours.
Amazing staff amazing food/beverages awesome vibe!!....I had my second experience here last Saturday night and it was outstanding! It was my sisters 30th birthday and she had made a booking at feast of merit for 15 but when we got there they said there was no booking even after she had been there in person and spoken to someone. They were so rude and unprofessional, So thinking on our feet we walked down to Botherambo and asked if they could possibly fit a table of 15. They were extremely accommodating and said they would definitely make it work. We had the banquet and it was just beautiful + all the amazing cocktails! I couldn't recommend this place more! The staff were awesome and so friendly and just made my sisters 30th birthday so special. So what could have been a disaster of a night turned into an awesome night so thank you so much!
An outstanding and affordable dining experience. The service was next level and all 6 dishes we had were on point. Cant wait to go back!
Always on point in all areas. Many memorable moments have been shared amongst friends at this venue. Botherambo 100% killing it.
Yummy delicious food and fabulous staff. Would absolutely recommend.
My fav restaurant in Richmond! The banquet is the best. So much yummy food! Amazing service. Highly recommend
Awesome food and great service! I've had a good experience every time I've gone there. Would definitely recommend'
Love, love, love this place. Great food, excellent service and nice wine to top it off. Highly recommended. We''ll definitely be back!
Fantastic food and service the staff were very helpful with the menu
Delicious Asian fusion food
Fabulous staff, fabulous food!! A must go to if you're Melbourne.
Delicious food, fast and friendly staff and great atmosphere!
Had my first meal last night thanks for amazing food and exceptional staff a special mention to Ingrid for agreeing to be our unofficial sth American travel guide! Steve will be along Tuesday night to pick up our itenerary! Amazing place!
Really enjoyed our evening at Botherambo. This is my second time visiting, and the food was just as good as the first time. The red duck curry is a must try, as well as the duck spring rolls. Last time I visited I had the beef cheek curry which was SO good! Great service, friendly staff and a cute and relaxed atmosphere in there. Will be back for sure!
I’ve been here a few times and each time is just as good! Unfortunately for me it’s a place I forget (sorry brotherambo) but the food is always so interesting and delicious! I just wish I didn’t forget out it!!
Defiantly worth a visit to dine or to have a few drinks
Great time, awesome food. Cocktails are FKN next level!
Highly recommend the Paper Crane, it literally has a little origami Paper Crane floating on top.....so cute!
My favourite dish was the Prawn dry curry! Packed full of flavour but a dish you can have as a starter so still had room for so much more! Oh and the ceviche.....um where has this been all my life!

With the growing popularity of Swan Street, there is now so much choice when it comes to eating well. From cheap and cheerful Vietnamese to your on-trend favourites, there is something for all taste buds. Botherambo is at the Punt Road end of Swan, and at the finer end of fun dining. A fancy bar with delicious cocktails and tasty Asian-Fusion fare, the perfect spot for a dimly lit date, or lively catch up with friends.
I’ve been to Botherambo a couple of times, and I highly recommend visiting.
There are so many great sounding dishes on the menu which are perfect to share with a friend or group of friends.
On my most recent visit, a friend and I got the following to share:
*fried chicken wings
*pork belly bao
*sauteed eggplant
*coconut rice
All of the dishes were delicious and full of flavour. The sautéed eggplant had the perfect amount of spice to the sauce, the chicken wings were crispy with a beautiful sweet sauce and the bao buns were the perfect way to end the meal - the pork was cooked perfectly and crisp.
Overall we left feeling full and happy with the items we received, and at a great price too - a total of $61 which also included a non alcoholic beverage each.
Staff were extremely friendly and made the experience even more enjoyable with their sense of humour.

The banquet is soo good! A must try if you don’t know what to order from the menu. Wished that they could swap some meals out for baos though, and when I did want to order the baos after finishing up with the banquet, they tell me the baos are closed!? Since when was there a finish time just for baos, yet the other good was still avaliable like dumplings? Was pretty cut about it but I’ll be back.. for those baos
Food tasted amazing. We got the feed me menu. Meat/ seaood options are alot better than the vegetarian option in the banquet. Tofu salad couldnt even finish however the vegetarian curry was amazing. Service from some workers were good however one of the ladies was abit rude.
A lovely dining experience although the service was a little slow given there wasn't many staff. I enjoyed the food and would definitely go again
Only got to take one photo of our food because it all came so quickly and it was so nice that I completely got distracted!
We got Pork Bao’s, Fried Chicken, Cauliflower and Brisket Stirfry and finished it all off with a Nutella Roti Jaffle.
It was a bit expensive but the quality of the food was incredible. The food came out so quickly and although we did feel a little rushed, it is better than waiting, am I right?
Highly recommend.

I don't think I've found an Asian fusion restaurant that I haven't loved, and this place is no exception. The service was brilliant straight out of the gates, with fantastic ambiance provided by exceptionally cool decor and buzz from neighbouring diners. My friend and I shared a bottle of the pinot noir (excellent) and though we weren't too hungry, we grabbed a couple of things to nibble on. The beef ribs were absolutely outstanding - a real must for those that love flavours that pack a punch. Tender, rich and delicious. Nothing to not love there. The tofu was so soft, seasoned well and absolutely amazing. The whole experience at Botherambo was exactly what Melbourne's gastronomic scene is known for: fantastic service, wonderful food and a brilliant vibe. Loved my time here.
Aaaaaaawesome place to dine !!! I was thinking to find a negative with this place and all I could think of was that the tofu was a little bit dry, most friendly staff ever, I’m a dumpling lover “ best dumplings so faaaaaarr” consider this that I’m a restauranter !!! Very good drink menu fresh ingredients and I’ll be a fan and customer from this day Botherambo you guys rock.
Gorgeous restaurant on the Swan St strip with a great atmosphere and food to match. The ceviche was fresh with a zing but the dumplings were my favourite as they had a real kick! Everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be on the 3 cocktails for $39 package so I’ll be back to check that out for sure!
I have been to this restaurant twice, the first time the food was nice we had the duck curry, squid and dumplings, portions weren't huge but all really good, the only let down was the music was so loud I could barely hear anyone - it was a Saturday night at about 9pm so bare this in mind. The second time was much better we had the pork belly , half chicken and pumpkin salad, all dishes were decent sized and delicious , much better atmosphere on a Tuesday night at 7pm! The music wasn't blasting and the restaurant was still busy.
Delicious good, relaxing atmosphere for a catchup with family. Standout were the chicken ribs - delicious!
Hats off to the best service ever by Daniel - he was so attentive, friendly + funny, and really made sure he explained each dish to us (one of us has a seafood allergy), even gave different non-seafood sauce, and even offered coconut milk when he saw the curry was spicy for me.
Overall such a good experience.
Came here a while ago and my experience was really positive. Most of the tables were taken so we sat at the bar. We had sticky rice with pork belly, whole fried fish, and some cocktails. The food was 3.5/5 but the service was great. Waiting staff and bartenders always smiled and they looked energetic. Will come back to try other dishes

I recently had a fantastic pre-show dinner here. We didn’t have a booking but got in within 30mins. The food was really lovely and we had a great spot outside on the street - perfect on a warm evening. Dishes that we ordered included the dumplings, ceviche, soft shell crab, roti and ground pork dish with lettuce cups. Everything was great but the standouts were the dumplings (that sauce on top was so delicious) and ground pork dish (those flavours were insane!). We also ordered gin & tonics which were great and our waitress was super lovely.
EDIT
I returned again with some family for a light dinner. New dishes that I chose included the beef main, calamari and pork belly. The beef was delicious! Cooked to perfection and such a generous serving. The calamari was nice and light but the pork belly was way too fatty for my liking. As always service was lovely and G&T’s on point.

Everything about this place is cool!! From the people who work there, to the decor, to the food itself!
Its an awesome little hipster joint where friendly long haired people serve you with a smile! I got the snapper and it was fantastic! See u again soon guys :)
Came here for lunch for 2. Great service and flavours in the dishes. The highlight was the Mother and Son - you’d want to mop up the sauce with some bread or have it with the coconut rice.
Super delicious! We shared everything as we were eating before a show at 6pm, so not too hungry... But wanted to try everything! The ceviche is divine! We mostly eat vegan which they accommodate for, however we couldn't go past that King fish, and we have no regrets!
I teamed it with the Pinot Grigio they have by the glass which was so yummy!
The service was awesome as there was a lot going on outside with Richmond winning the cup the day before- so it felt like they offered a little paradise amongst all the noise outside. Such a beautiful spot.
Pretty $$ but worth it if you like delicate, tasteful food, yummy wines and interesting beers and great service. 🤑😋😘
Loved it! Tasty, great variety on menu, easy going service and relaxed atmosphere. Next time I'll aim to have the Feed Me option. Those with a chilli sensitive palate might to want to check spiciest before ordering
Came here on a recommendation from a friend. On arrival it was packed inside. I am told that this is the norm here and I should book. I didn't. But was happily seated immediately. The general feels of this place is abuzz with people enjoying themselves. I thought the restaurant itself looked a bit out dated and could definitely do with an upgrade. But nice all the same. Our waiter for the evening was an older guy with glasses short hair, forgot his name.
We went right ahead and ordered ourselves, we had to start short rib with cauliflower purée and some gloriously sticky sauce. Yum! Squid with wasabi mayonnaise. So so tender and soft and ever so crispy on the out side. Genius chef for that coating. Spicy pork mince with lettuce wraps. DIY style. This was out standing. We were both driving so just stuck to sparkling water.
Second course we chose crispy chicken I think Khao Soi with egg noodles, pork hock as it is the cheapest pork hock in all of melbourne if not Australia, I couldn't pass that up. Both dishes were extremely well executed. Perfectly soft pull apart smoky pork with all the trimmings condiments and roti. And I have to say the curry hands down best I've ever had. Finished the night off with a decadent chocolate brownie and unfortunately no coffee. As they don't do coffee. It would of been nice but oh well. This place is definitely all about the food, service not so great, but with food like that! Don't care about the service. We will be back and often.
Food: 10/10
Service 6/10
Ambiance 8/10

Cool venue located right next to the Corner Hotel in Richmond. Lots of variety in the menu, with their good all Asian inspired, particularly Vietnamese. The $50 per head for the feed me option is great value, and with our group of 7, we all left well and truly full and with leftovers. The betel leaves and the pork belly dish were the standouts for me, but all the food was great which included beef curry, a prawn salad, san choi bau, prawn crackers and rice and the aforementioned dishes. On top of that the service was fantastic, engaging in banter with us while also taking their job seriously and professionally. Highly recommend.
Walked in on a busy Friday night without a booking and the super friendly wait staff found us a table with no problem. Had no preconceived idea of the food but were so impressed with how delicious, fresh and original it was. We had the dumplings (yum!), Crying tiger salad (so fresh and yummy), roti, son in law eggs (really good) and squid (yum!). Staff amazing and great atmosphere. We'll be back!
I only realised that this place is called Botherambo because its on the corner of Botherambo St and Swan St lol.
Service is excellent 5/5
Food 4/5
Drinks 4/5
Price $$ about $60 pp
This place can be funky and intimate at the same time. Great place to dine with friends, have a drink at the bar or a romantic date night. Food is awesome. Packed with loads of flavours and herbs!!! They don't go easy on the flavours... Each dish we had was full of flavours and its great if you go in a group because you can order several dishes to share. Sooo can't wait to go back. Thumbs up
Not that there was anything really wrong, but Botherambo missed the mark for us. Really comfortable interiors, and we all commented how good the lighting was in this venue. Service was decent, a bit difficult sometimes to catch the floor staffs attention. They had also run out of a few beers both on top and in bottle form which was not the best look. The food was bold, fresh full of flavour, but lacked the finesse of other places in Melbourne doing Thai/Viet inspired food for white people. Good for date night.
Botherambo is such a hidden gem where the cocktails are just as good as the food.
In all honesty, hands down the best Thai fusion food ever!
The portions are enough to share and the ambiance of the venue make for a great night!

Second time at Botherambo - opted for the light dishes instead of the curry with rice like last time. Very good use of SE Asian flavours, each dish had a real zesty kick which was refreshing. Stand out dishes were the ceviche and the pork & prawn dumplings.
Went here on a Monday night and it was full house by 7-7:30pm so I'd recommend making a booking espesh if you're going in a big group. Price tag is $$$ which is standard for Swan St, but menu is really good for sharing. Great date place. Good tunes. Attentive and friendly staff. Would go back.

This has to be one of the best $50 'feed me' menus in Melbourne. The pork belly was unreal, the salad ENORMOUS and the prawn crackers on-point. I didn't even know that prawn crackers came in a non-garden variety sort! I think it was the curry paste that made them so pointedly special. The only downside: no dessert.
Haven't had food here yet, but I had the best espresso martini of my life. The espresso Mar "Thai" ni with roasted coconut. Word really can't describe how wonderful this drink is. Of the two times we've been here, we've had fantastic service once, and only decent service the second time, but hoping that was just a fluke.
The staff were so accommodating. Food was delicious, service was amazing. My favourite was the pork belly .. we had the feed me option and it was more than enough food. I can't wait to come back again.
Awesome venue, ambience and service. Well located in heart of Richmond, short walk from sporting precinct. Great for tapas with extensive menu.
Located conveniently to the Richmond train station is this mod Asian restaurant. Embodies the hustle bustle of swan street and cool young clients to match. Food menu reads really well, and is executed moderately well. Highlight was the short ribs and the squid. Pork hock was covered in a hard to remove skin - suggest serving with a giant serrated steak knife may help. Overall tasty.
Venue is great, nice atmosphere and lovely building although it was a bit cold inside. Food was really delicious, but thought it was a bit overpriced. We order the corn starter and it was a couple of corn kernels - not even a quarter of a corn. Tasted great but we felt a bit underwhelmed by the amount. The roti bread almost seemed a bit stale and came put so quickly we felt it wasn't cooked fresh. Muay Thai cocktail was really nice! Vegetarian curry had really good flavours. The menu has changed to what is online and it was a bit disappointing to see there were less vegan options than we had expected. Staff were really friendly and overall good experience, just a bit pricey!
Pretty good place to have a drink and a good feed. Modern Vietnamese flavours with a twist and quite affordable for what you get. The feed me option will definitely satisfy any hunger!
I love the food as well as the service .. staff is nice and smiling !! I tried too many dishes the best for me was the soft shell crab .. as well as the chicken green carry 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Last week I trotted along to Botherambo for dinner with my girlfriends. I was v impressed that you can actually make a booking for this place! I think we should leave queuing in 2016. Super friendly and helpful staff, beautiful fit out and great cocktails. And the food was good too! Would recommend.
The authentic South East Asian flavours you find in Botherambo are second only to actually being in South East Asia. Given most decent places to eat these days don't take bookings waiting in line for food has become almost a hobby of mine. Being a Tuesday night at 6pm we were lucky enough to walk right in. We opted out of the feed me menu but at $50pp it's probably a good option for a large group. We had the five spiced squid which was stunningly presented and the eggplant betel leaf, also delectable. The Muay Thai cocktail with peppercorn gin was punchy and while I preferred the Ladyboy it was certainly memorable. There's some serious mixology going on behind the bar with intriguing ingredients such as pandan rum and jasmine tea bourbon. Get the braised beef cheek. Thank me later
Botherambo is a great bar and restaurant in Richmond. I suggest letting the knowledgeable waiters pick some items for you and your dining companions to share so that you can try a bit of everything.
The cocktails are especially good with lots of the syrups and ingredients being made in house just for the drinks.
Good service, friendly service, good vibe - food was nice but T would be good to see some non spicy options. Maybe a few more vegetarian options
I'm a bit torn about this place as it started brilliantly and kind of finished on a poor note. The chargrilled chicken ribs were delicious as was the pork belly. If we had of stopped there, it would have been a definite 5 out of 5. Next we had some chicken and prawn dumplings which were decent but not great. We finished with the red duck curry and roti bread. Both were very ordinary - the fat on the duck hadn't rendered down at all ao was gelatinous and rubbery whilst the actual duck meat was very dry. The roti bread might be the worst I've had - dry, chewy and almost cold. Service was great - we had the guy with long hair who was also working behind the bar and he was fantastic. I'd probably go back but would definitely not order the duck or roti again.
Second time we have been, as a pescatarian they have heaps of options, soft shell crab and tuna steak is a stand out. The ceviche was disappointing, fish itself was yum but flavour was bland missing some kind of lemon zest! But cocktails and yum and overall great food and experience, 4 share plates and a drink each was $110 so not cheap but no expensive
Great food, even better atmosphere. Come here to eat delicious Asian fusion and cool cocktails served by really really good looking people. Would definitely come again, for dates or a night out with friends. There are also plenty of veg options that stand on their own.
I’m so pleased to see that there are SO many restaurants already on my wishlist here in Melbourne. Between new openings, pop-ups and staple venues; I’ve got a list as long as my arm to try. Richmond is a great spot that has surprised me with its offering. Last week, my ballet-dancer-extraordinaire friend was in town so we headed for Swan Street to Botherambo.
Great food in a nice fit out. Had dinner tonight with some friends. Service was particularly excellent.
Always busy but quiet enough to still hear everyone.
Servings on the smaller side but reasonable value for money.
I don’t think I have ever been when Botherambo is quiet – sign of a good place! They are always super lovely staff and though you can’t book they will send you off for a drink and call you or we just took a pew at the bar which worked really well and every time I smiled sweetly someone bought me another wine – even better!!!
This is one of my favorite places in Richmond. The food is to die for especially the calamari. The service is fantastic and they make the best margaritas in Australia. The bar staff are attentive and show passion in their drinks. Highly recommended.
Had an awesome time here with some mates a week ago, we were a table of 8 an at booking we had no idea we had to have the set menu.... At first we were a little disappointed, however the food won. It was awesome. Keep up the good work guys!!!!
We started with the Spanner Crab Betel Leaf, a refreshing crab dish served with pickles, cucumber pomelo and nut crumble. We sipped the Rambamatico all the while, with Diplomatico rum the alcohol of choice, a citrus delight with mandarin providing some surprising flavours in a cocktail! We continued with the entrees, having the Rare Seared Waygu Beef and Kingfish Hiramasa Cevice. Some great Asian infused flavours in these dishes, with the beef being cooked perfectly. We also had the Yellow Fin Tuna, served with some spicy chilli flavours to give a good kick.
Walked in more as a replacement for a closed restaurant rather than as a first choice but ended up loving it! Great service, lovely atmosphere and amazing food. The menu is small but packed with a punch. Lots of spices and flavours and definitely good enough for a revisit with some special friends.
Sensational casual funky Asian with great service .... Highly recommend this although I secretly want to keep it to myself .... A bit hard to get in to book at times closer to the date so book in advance!
Great find! Food was fresh and delicious and venue has a cool vibe. The staff and owner were all fanastic and friendly. Definitely will go again and would recommend.
Awesome food, great spice flavours, generous serves, friendly staff really look after you, amazing cocktails, great for a large group dinner :)
Amazing! Had a group of 15 of us and they catered for us even though we booked last minute. We had the set menu for the group and every meal that was presented to us was so scrumptious ! Everything was cooked to perfection and there was a party in everyone's mouths for sure ! Lovely staff and great venue. Thank you for such a pleasant evening !
Walked past this place every second day and had heard some solid reviews but for some reason we only just walked in to check it out tonight.
Was not disappointed, the venue was very modern and even though it was full and we sat at the bar to eat it didn't have that overcrowded vibe. Really good lay out, decor and ambiance. All the staff where attentive, helpful and polite, couldn't ask for more especially considering the place was rather full.
As for the food, all flavours and portion sizing was good. Pricing was fairly standard for what we ate/drank. The only negative comment I could have was that all the meats were a touch dry, this wasn't a big problem as all the sauces and flavours where well on point.
Over all good experience and I would recommend it for a casual Asian dinner or lunch!
NB:This is not Victoria Street Vietnamese food, please don't compare it. Seems some people still don't feel comfortable paying for elevated Vietnamese or Fusion, which is a shame.
The food here is asian fusion drawing heavily in Vietnamese flavours but with some Thai elements thrown in too. We had the crying tiger (thai) with a crispy pork and salted prawn and pomelo salad (Vietnamese) and some turmeric chargrilled chicken ribs (who knows who can claim that one). All were delicious and fresh. If you're after a nice spot for some modern takes on Southeast Asian food, then give Botherambo a go!
We had a wonderful dinner for 8 at Brother Rambo earlier this week. Nathan the owner suggested the banquet to share and we couldn't have been happier with the recommendation. Each course was superb and portions were generous. Highlights for me were the squid tentacles, salad and red duck curry. We also got the 18 hour beef cheek which was just incredible! Great wine list, tasty cocktails and Vietnamese beer kept the whole crew going and we finished it all off with coconut ice cream encased in home made ice magic topping. As mentioned in other reviews, the decor and ambiance is incredibly cool without trying too hard. The exposed brick and warehouse ceiling are remnants of the history of the space. Great place for a big group dinner or a nice meal for couples. Service from the wait and bar staff was spot on and this place is a real standout in what is a very busy restaurant strip along Swan St.
Absolutely love this restaurant! We have now visited on a number of occasions and have enjoyed our experience each and every time.
On our most recent visit in a group of 4, we tried the banquet and wow what an amazing menu! There was more than enough food for the 4 of us and allowed us to try dishes we wouldn't have normally ordered. From previous visits I can also highly recommend the salty beef salad, chicken ribs and crying tiger beef, these are all delicious dishes.
We can't wait to return and have been recommending this restaurant to friends and will continue to do so!
We had the banquet and were very impressed!! Good value for money. Good wine selection as well. Don't bother with the crackers if you have the choice.
Went here this evening after the tennis having never even heard of Botherambo. Usually I'm a sucker for only going to places by recommendation, but went here on a whim because it was nearby and looked pretty cool from the outside. What an absolute delight! We had a banquet which was very reasonably priced after our super friendly and highly attentive waiter Indra recommended it. Our faves were the beef curry and the coconut ice cream. Divine. We were also wowed by the delightful cocktails - we tried 6 between the 4 of us and they were all equally delicious. We didn't want to leave!! We had such a fun night! Thanks Botherambo for a fantastic night. We'll be back ☺️
Came with my friend who got a free voucher to this place! First thing I noticed that it had a nice Asian Vietnamese fusion to it! Very multicultural and had a very indie/urban aesthetic that I liked which appealed to a younger crowd. It was so busy and I guess thats usually a good sign. The food choices were definetly interesting with a wide range of alcohol options, too bad I was driving and the customer service was actually brilliant! The food did take a while to come but I guess it was because they were busy? And they did make a mistake when they refilled my drink..
Cos it had alcohol in it but it was an easy fix. My two favorite dishes were the dessert - passion fruit ice cream with pandan cream and banana spring rolls, all the flavours mashed well together and it was very yummy! The second one was the prawn and pork dumpling which came in a suit and it just felt so homely. Very savoury, scrumptious and warm to eat. The pork belly dish was nice, however the sauce was too hot!! And because they put so much blob of sauce, my friend and I had to constantly reach for our drink and the salad was amazing but it got a bit over bearing with the large portion size. The only thing i will change is having bigger tables and bit more spacious.. We were very close to people that it was easy to listen into their conversation.
Other than that, dinner was fantastic and free besides my parking fine :(. Will definetly come back and recommend it to my friends to try.
Finally got here last night for dinner, was well worth it. We had the restaurants signiture dish, the 18 hour slow cooked beef cheek, with a side of sticky rice and chinese broccoli. Divine. Perfect menu for sharing and an ultra cool fit out with a really nice little courtyard- esque dining area. Loved it. Thanks guys
The food was delicious, great atmosphere, my issue was the portion sizes. Our waitress did warn us we hadn't ordered enough food, but for a share menu and at those prices, the portion sizes should have been bigger. The pork and prawn salad was a tiny little side plate that would be enough as a starter for one person. The duck curry was one tiny leg in sauce with barely any vegetables and the sides are not share sizes, so the roti was literally ONE roti, I feel it should be a share serving. Probably wouldn't go back unless it's a special occasion where I'm willing to fork out the cash.
Yum! Stumbled across this little gem one night and was very pleasantly surprised.. The food is so fresh and tasty - will definitely be back! Wonderful and prompt service also!
Fine in or take away, either way this place is great. Start with a quick drink on the bar and then sit for some fantastic modern Asian. Whole fish through to smaller dishes. Best for sharing with a few friends.
I quite enjoyed the food on offer at Botherambo. The mango prawn salad was delicious and fresh as was the pork belly.
It appears that Zomato does not have the full menu and drinks so I would recommend jumping on the Botherambo website and checking out your full range of options: botherambo.com.au
There is a great drinks menu as well so keep this in mind. They also offer a banquet option but looking at our menu choices it actually appeared that ordering off the menu ended up being cheaper. Mind you we weren't starving so maybe save yourself and invest in the banquet to get the full range on offer!
Decor was funky and staff were friendly.
Will return again soon!
Firstly Foodie – get the name right! Spent all week telling people I was off to Brother Rambo for dinner and no one had the heart or kindness to correct me…. It’s Botherambo…. Why are they Bothering Rambo, he’s a tough cookie you really shouldn’t poke the bear!! Ok it’s on Botherambo Street….. let’s just eat!!
Looking forward to returning here! Amazing, fresh, vibrant and perfectly balanced flavours. Standout for me was the prawn and green mango salad with the most amazing dressing! Yum!!
I literally just think about the food at Botherambo somedays. I love the intense Asians flavored, lime, fish sauce, chili and coriander there is nothing better in my eyes. Botherambo keep on keeping on because what you are doing is working and I'll be back soon!
PS if it's your first time there try one of the salads they are soooo good!
Absolutely delicious food and drinks! I Had the pork belly banh mi roll, it was the best I have ever had! Also, the staff were amazing and very friendly. Definitely worth going!
Yo this place is dope. Was up swan street lookin for a feed, was approached by a lovely persson offering a free lunch. Decided to give it a go and was definitely pleased with the banh mi. Staff are friendly, atmosphere is great, will defintely be back.
Great vibe, bar and fitout. For a menu designed to share can be awkward. Food is always nice I always leave content but at the same time I have never been 'wowed' by the food.
Opening a modern South East Asian restaurant in a suburb concentrated with high-quality ‘cheap eats’ is an act of confidence by owner Nathan Peck. When it comes to South East Asian cuisine – the bang and pop of Thai and aromatic pho broths, Richmond is the place to go. The suburb has come a long way from dirty Vietnamese to the establishment of yet another foodie district, slowly masking the grubby pubs, where the only thing ‘Asian’ are spring roll canapes. With its fierce logo and a nomination for Timeout’s People Choice Award, we expected bold flavours. Did Botherambo deliver? Yes and No.
Really nice spot, great service and good food. Highly recommend the signature beef cheek dish, absolutely delicious. Can't wait to try the wider menu
This is a great place to be hanging out with friends for lunch and dinner on any days of the week. It has great atmosphere and interiors - it's the right look and feel for this part of Swan Street, Richmond. Service is friendly and prompt; and the F&B stacks up as well - although I'm not a great fan of the baby bamboo in some of the dishes but that's only personal...
Have been hanging to try this little beauty in a while. Great service and the meal did not disappoint. The chicken ribs were delicious and the beef curry also divine. Will definitely come back here!
Really enjoyed the meal, rather noisy tho but as to be expected. Staff were lovely and food seemed fresh. Will definitely be back if only for the entree.
Dropped in here for an after-work beer. Cool concept and the food smelt amazing. I'll be back next time to work my way through the food menu.
Been there 3 times now and consistently good. Simple dishes, easy to share with unique tastes. Staff friendly and knowledgeable about menu. Solid but not long list of wines and offering Beer Laos a huge plus
Botherambo is the latest Asian Fusion restaurant to open up in Melbourne. With crowds overflowing still at Chin Chin & Kong, there is definitely demand for this cuisine. Located right next to the Corner Hotel in Richmond, it will give concert goers & sports crowds a much needed new place to go to. I took my clients out to a weekday lunch and was surprised it was pretty quiet as I've heard it is pumping during dinner. Â The interior of the restaurant is sleek with an urban warehouse which nicely fits into Richmond.
Dined there last night and what a fun place. Great atmosphere with great staff.. Sat in bar area whilst waiting for a table and ended up sitting at the bar which was fine... Great idea having coat hooks under front of bar.. Reasonable wine list and the single serve entrees were just an explosion of flavor in your mouth, really good..
The pork neck a little flavorless and a bit like sweet n sour which is not our fave, still a creative dish and the pork just shredded.
The beef cheek was amazing in a delightful sauce. The young peppercorns were different if not a little bitter. But the staff were great....
New restaurant and few mix ups with getting correct food at the bar, but all with a grain of salt.
Worth a try this one
What a great night! Busy on a pubic holiday but there was room enough for the two of us up at the bar... and as it turned out we wouldn't have wanted any other seats! Amazing food... spicy (when then menu suggested - good!) and flavour plus. Slow cooked meats and chicken ribs... say no more. Chatted all night long to friendly bar tender Nathan who was excellent value! Definitely going back.
The renaissance of Swan Street continues in a strength not seen since Smith Street became an epicentre of Australian culinary greatness. Seven years ago when I first moved to Melbourne, Swan Street was an abyss only worthwhile of frequenting for a few specific bars and pubs. One of the latest to grace the strip is Botherambo which brings modern Thai and Asian flavours to the array of options.
What a little gem! Went there for dinner on Saturday night and throughly enjoyed the experience! The staff were friendly, food was delicious and cocktails were creative (and tasty!).
We ate Prawn & Pork Dumplings, Fried Squid Tentacles, Chargrilled Chicken Ribs and Deep Fried Chicken Wings. The dumplings and squid were my favourites and must haves. The wings were nice but not spectacular as the other two. @
Great food (pretty classic Thai with a slight modern twist), cool atmosphere and Cal has an impressive supply of Dad jokes available on request.
Great food, fantastic atmosphere, friendly service. Always busy, but tables turnover pretty quickly and they'll call you when table is available. Good wine list and a cute bar area. One of my local faves.
Yum yum yum amazing food. Had the Spanner Crab Betel Leaf, Fried Squid Tentacles, Crispy Pork Belly, Flash Fried Whole Baby Snapper and green Vegetable. Amazing service can't pick a winner in the food. Must come back and try more of the menu. Yuuummmmm
Another great addition to Richmond. Service is great and so is the food. Went the banquet as we had a group there and it was tremendous. Highlight for me was the little chicken ribs and the pork belly which someone else ordered was amazing apparently. Will have to get that next time
Great service, cool vibe, tasty food. We went there Friday before the footy and needed fast service. We were in and out in an hour having shared 3 small tasting plates (enough for 2 guys) and a beer each. $38 each with tip. We shared the duck salad, crispy pork belly and squid tentacles. Water topped up 3 times, plenty of smiles, fast service.
They don't take reservations but tables turn over quickly, so wait time shouldn't be too bad most nights.
Phenomenal food and fantastic bubbly service, loved it!
Awesome service and food. We went here for a quick meal after the football and were blown away by the amazing food. The service was excellent and fast, great with hungry kids. The authentic food was a bit spicy for the kids but the awesome desserts kept them happy. Highly recommend a visit.
Great food, amazing space and friendly staff. Thank you!
Good !. Great service, nice set up especially with the bar, diverse menu with lots of choice, pretty tasty. Maybe a lit bit on the expensive side re small portions and can get a bit noisy, but all up quite worthwhile.
A total gem!. This place is awesome. Amazingly delicious food, fantastic service and great atmosphere. Will definitely tell everyone to go!
What a great experience! Wonderful staff, quick service. Food was absolutely delish. Started with the Beef parcels followed by crispy pork belly on Sticky Rice - the sauce on the dish is pretty hot so not for the faint hearted but was absolutely spot on. Next up was the Pork and prawn dumplings which were served in an amazing flavoursome broth. We then had the salt and pepper tofu which was probably the highlight! Must order! We finished off with the Cocount Sorbet which is perfect size in serving - it even has ice magic on it. Will be back soon for sure!
Love this place. Great food and atmosphere. The botherambo cocktail is deliscous! Staff are lovely and helpful. Decor very Melbourne. I'll be going again this weekend.
Fit out looks fantastic - very 'Melbourne'. All our starters were amazing, I especially liked the dumplings. Beef cheeks were the stand out from the big dishes. We'll be back, perhaps without my parents next time as they had a bit if trouble hearing!
Deeeelish!!. I'm lucky enough to live around the corner so have eaten here numerous times now. The food is so delicious and full of flavour and I find it nice and light to eat - I never leave feeling yucky. With the exception of one waitress, the service is so lovely, friendly and helpful. Favourites are the chicken ribs, papaya salad, slow cooked beef cheek and the coconut sorbet! Have also never paid more than $55 a head which always includes alcohol. My new favourite!
Flavour Explosion. I have eaten at Botherambo a few times now as I was so impressed with the food from the first visit.
The flavours are exciting, well-balanced and come with a (little) kick. The food feels very healthy and light. I love the noodle salad, the mango/coconut desert and the betel leaf starter. There are some interesting ingredients I hadn't tried before; elephants ear and cloud mushrooms. The cloud mushrooms were delicious, but I didn't enjoy the elephant ear so much. My friends LOVED the snapper.
The venue looks great and I really like the table layout which stretches along the right hand side wall. It feels relaxed and comfortable. From about 7pm it seems to get very busy so it's good to get there early to secure a table.
I believe they have recently updated their booking system. The second time I visited, we were booked for the early sitting and had to leave by 7:30pm to make room for the next table. I like to sit and take my time to enjoy my meal and I felt a little rushed having to be out by 7:30pm. More recently when we booked we found that they had changed their booking system, they no longer had two sessions and we were able to book and stay for as long as we liked. MUCH better! This meant we were able to enjoy an extra glass of wine and some dessert, win!!
New Richmond Favourite. Such tasty and delicious food to share. We got a whole range of dishes to try. The staff were so friendly and looked after us. The decor and and look is really cool. We all couldn't resist a coconut, choc ice magic and peanut dessert after seeing another tables! Perfect Sunday lunch place.
Just do it. You will not be let down. Super cool fit out. Tasty food and a great place to drink in Richmond that doesn't turn into some sort of trashy pseudo nightclub after 10 pm on weekends (yes I'm looking at you public house, royal saxon, the bridge, et al).
Love it!. Love love loved Botherambo. Great new addition to Swan St. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and food was fresh, tasty and really flavoursome. Victoria Street doesn't offer anything comparable. Looking forward to going back and sampling some of the other menu items.
Happy friggin locals. Holy MOLY. This place is the sh*t!
Having lived in Richmond for 3+ years, Swan St has been crying out for something this fresh & cool. My partner & I arrived & they were fully booked but the legend staff let us sit at the bar (self service side) and the barman made us amazing mojitos (not even on the menu) They were so friendly and the food was top notch. Betel leaf & papaya salad were real stand outs. We will come back FOREVER! Never change guys.
Good one.
Great atmosphere, great food, great addition to Swan St Richmond.
Always a great experience at Botherambo.
Staff are very friendly and attentive.
Service of food is so so quick.
Great variety, great options and generally great all around.
It's on the pricier side but I'm a frequent visitor being a local and it's always good to know what you are going to get every time without disappointment.
That duck salad & fried snapper!. Really amazing food
Amazing food! Been here a couple of times now and love it! The staff are super friendly in a great open setting!
Excellent addition to Swan St.. This place is great. The fit out is very cool and the food is outstanding. The balance of hot, sour, salty and sweet is spot on. The som tum and the chicken ribs are the stand out dish's . The duck salad is also really good. We'll be back!!
Really enjoyed this place! Great fit out and ambience, food was delicious! Had the prawn betel leaves, crispy pork belly, crispy chicken and would highly recommend all. Everything was well priced too. The staff were really attentive and friendly. Cool place! Excellent addition to Swan Street - locals were craving yum Asian!
Great courtyard bar. We tried botherambo last night after we spotted it walking down swan street. Apparently it's only been open a week! It was a great space in the courtyard bar to have a few drinks with great weather and do some people watching. I recommend it as a great place to take someone on date as they have cleverly split the space into restuarant one side and bar on the other meaning you can leave your options open! We also moved across to the restuarant for food after reading the menu and seeing some of the yummy dishes that came out. Most of the plates were dishes that could be shared which suited us well. Overall we were impressed and will be back!
Lylsali. Great service, food fresh and soooo tasty, left a great taste in my mouth. will definately be going back
Soooo good! Delicious, friendly staff and great setting. Get the beef starter!!!
Botherambo Richmond is the latest venture from Nathan Peck and expectations were high before it even opened thanks the savvy recruiting of Kam McManamey (formerly of Elwood’s Dandelion and South Wharf’s BangPop) as head chef.
The World Loves Melbourne
+4.5
Botherambo is about authentic Thai and Vietnamese cuisine with innovation and surely one of the best Thai restaurants in Melbourne. Botherambo have entered the bamboo belt in Richmond/Abbotsford where Asian food dominates the scene. Botherambo is a standout from the crowd with the distinct influence of maestro chef Kam McManamey (ex BangPop). This is a classy fit out and the food shows flair and technique while honouring the main ingredients. You're likely to have food experiences here you won't get elsewhere. The World Loves Melbourne has now visited twice, once for lunch, and then for a major group lunch with 7 friends. Both visits have been ultra rewarding.
ASIAN FUSION RESTAURANT ON SWAN STREET JUST DOWN FROM RICHMOND STATION
Its named after the adjacent street.. hence the quirky name!
This was my first visit to the restaurant (dinner on a Monday night) with a very fussy (but lovely) friend so I was a bit anxious about what to expect..... well it was delightful and my fussy friend totally agreed!
From the moment we walked in (20 minutes earlier than we'd booked) the service was exemplary.
The waiter was very attentive, had us seated, menu explained and water on the table in the blink of an eye :)
The staff manage to achieve that service sweet spot of friendly and helpful without intruding on your evening.
My (aforementioned fussy) friend always has lots of questions about the menu and the waiter answered them all very enthusiastically and authoritatively. We were especially impressed with his knowledge of the wines on the menu and his advice on matching foods.
We started with silken tofu, which was slightly crispy on the outside and silky smooth inside - dressed in a delicious sauce and salad.
This was served with belly pork.. slightly tougher than I like .. but delicately flavoured and dressed with fresh vegetable and sauce.. yumm!
For main course we had a whole snapper - gently fried and bursting with flavour. Accompanying this was morning glory - perfectly cooked and with a sweet soy garlic sauce and chat potatoes.
I could have eaten a lot more but my friend is a light eater.... so I'll be back soon with big eaters to take full advantage of the menu!
The environment is quite pleasant - a long row of tables with comfortable chairs. It's not noisy. My fussy friend found the lighting to be too low but I found it added to the ambiance :)
The restrooms at the back are very modern, clean and spacious.
People with mobility issues will be fine here.. all on one level, plenty to space to accomodate a wheelchair if needed and a short walk from the Richmond Railway Station.
All up (with 3 well matched wines) it cost us $132, quite good value considering the quality and the service.
I recommend this for a romantic night, a cosy catch up with friends or for anyone wanting good quality Asian food and a good dining experience.
This is a must visit place if you love food!
The banquet menu is the best option and seriously great value ! With a big group it's such a good idea tasting so many different dishes! I've been a number of times now and had the banquet menu twice !
The cocktails are a absolutely amazing !
Delicious food and delicious cocktails, too! Plenty of great things on the menu to choose from and nothing disappointed, I've been itching to get back to try it again soon!
The atmosphere is great, good drinks and the curry was absolutely breath taking! If you’re wanting good curry make your way here! Our waiter was okay but the bartender Tim was so wonderful to us!
Went for lunch and we were the only group there so had super attentive service. Food and cocktails were delicious.
Had dinner here last night. They recently appointed a new head chef. Good vibes coupled with a laid-back ambience. The courtyard is also dog friendly, which is an added bonus. The food has an excellent balance of flavours and the staff were on the ball and very accommodating.
We went for dinner Sunday night and everything was amazing. Staff were on point, beers were cold and the food just kept coming. Hiramasa Kingfish was well balanced and chicken dumplings were to die for; very spicy but loved it. Beef Brisket, Brown Rice and finished off with Asian Greens that were the best I've ever had. Cal and the bar team finished us off nicely with a smoked old fashioned that was superb. We will be back again, thanks for the experience.
