Really delicious food with a wide variety of cheap eats. The staff are an added bonus, opting to stay open late just for my friends & I last night (without making us feel rushed at all). Will definitely be returning 😋
Very big restaurant space- staff were all very friendly however some of the dishes took a while to come out but worth the wait! Dry noodles with pork and prawn dumplings! These dumplings were some of the best I’ve ever had! The dumpling case was so soft it was delicious!!!! Also had pork belly clay pot which was yummy too (the sauce was definitely the high light I made sure to scrape it all out to have with left over rice.
Been coming here for 20 years but had not been for a while and OMG Tho Tho has had a revamp. New decor, new menu. Asian Fusion? What’s this? Where is the extensive menu I so strongly remember. Some of the dishes had disappeared but thankfully my favourite prawn spring rolls and satay pork were still around. I asked them if they could still do Satay Squid as it had disappeared from the menu and they said yes. Phew! And just like I remember the meals arrived quick as a flash and delicious as ever! Not sure about the new menu but I’ll be back nonetheless. Oh yeh - they are opening at Docklands to!
My sister, brother in law and I loved our visit to Tho Tho.
We ordered the Beef San Choi Bao, Pork with Spicy Sauce & Coconut Milk, Vegetable Fried Rice and Singapore Noodles with Chicken to share.
All of the meals were nice but the Beef San Choi Bao and Pork with Spicy Sauce & Coconut Milk were the stand out - loved the rich flavours of these dishes.
Great value for money, staff were nice and the meals came out quickly. I would return again to try other dishes from the menu.
Had a pleasant dinner at Tho Tho Bar & Asian Restaurant.
I had the ‘Baylee’s special – Stir fry rice noodles with ‘Shaken’ Beef & Crispy Chicken in an Egg sauce’ which was very good. The quality meats were cooked perfectly but I found the sauce was gluggy and nondescript. I don’t know how egg sauce is supposed to taste so probably poor ordering on my behalf. Definitely value for money though. No dessert required.
My friend played made an orthodox selection of ‘Egg noodles with chicken and vegetables’ which was more enjoyable – beautifully cooked with balanced flavours.
Premise has a cool open vibe to it. And the pictures of Hugh Jackman and Arnold Schwarzenegger as previous diners add a certain cache.
All in all – a very reliable option on Victoria Street.

Food and drinks are pretty decent and very reasonably priced. The menu is broad and caters to pretty much whatever you might be feeling like from curry to fried rice to noodles and pho. Nothing overly extravagant about the presentation but I enjoyed my green curry and would come back again, possibly with a large group as the prices and serving sizes make it ideal for group dinners.
Came here for dinner one night and seen it was very busy so thought me and my friends would give it ago.
Now I see why they were busy terrific food and great staff.
Legendary ubereats order, gave me a huge amount of pho! not salty too! I would give it 6/5 if I could. only had to wait 15 mins :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
What a fun night!! Magic tricks and comedic jokes by the famous Raymond was enjoyed by all. Food was reasonably priced per head and service was comfortable and friendly. Atmosphere was top notch and THO THO definitely stands out on Victoria st. Such a gem and a good change from the "cheap and nasty" joints on Vic st. We will only come back here from now on.
Well priced food. Good service and efficient. Great place for a quick meal. Their sweetened bbq pork is delicious and goes really well with their noodle soups.

Yesterday on the way to IKEA, we stopped off for lunch... beef pho, roast pork, and spring rolls... not bad... the pho soup was really nice and service was great and fast.

Visited for the first time today. Friends and I shared, prawn spring rolls, veggie spring rolls, satay chicken, chilli prawns, garlic beef and rice.
I thought all the food was tasty, without being the best I've had. Prawn spring rolls were probably the highlight, they were delicious! Chicken wasn't the best, a few grizzly bits, beef was delicious and tender but could have been more garlicy and the prawns were yum!
All in all, a solid lunch with friendly service. I would definitely go back!
Used to go there all the time when I lived in Richmond. Something happened and i didn't get to visit again for over ten years. I was very happy to taste their food once again and even happier it still tasted the same after all those years.
I'm sure one of the original waiters was still working there as well.

The chicken satay skewers | prawn spring rolls - very good. Mongolian beef, okay. Seafood w garlic & vegetables | salt n pepper Fried squid - very tasty. Combination Fried rice delicious. Fried ice cream so so. Our fave is the chicken satay skewers. Yum!
Went to Tho Tho with a group of 20 people. We had the $35 Banquet. Spring rolls served with lettuce were pretty standard, Vietnamese Coleslaw with chicken was fresh and well prepared, Large prawns with broccoli (that still had crunch and not overcooked), Chicken with cashews that had a delicious sauce, Beef  and fried rice. Nice banquet meal but I would suggest ordering off the menu as there was other meals that looked tastier. Clean dim Lit atmosphere, clean amenities but the staff were a bit disconnected from their customers. Service could be improved.
Went for the first time after a friend's suggestions. We had the rice paper rolls, bo la lot, bo luc lac and XO prawns. Food was a bit on the salty side but went well with rice. Duck rice paper roll came with the crispiest skin along with an interesting variety of dipping sauces. The bo luc lac however, had the most tender and juicy beef you could ever ask for. Would definitely go again for bo luc lac!
Cheap and cheerful meal. Staff are super quick in ordering food and it we were surprised how many people came after us. Strange that all the patrons were non-Vietnamese though. Bit quirky. Food was excellent and all the meals came out at the same time.
Very good authentic Vietnamese food. Happy to make changes to menu. Only negative is due to acoustics can get very loud.

They've just renovated, so are looking pretty spiffy at the moment :D Went with a large group and to help out the kitchen we had the banquet. $45 is not too bad for a banquet with multiple courses and lots of food, though I thought it was a little heavy on the prawns.
The entree was combination spring rolls which as the name suggests was a variety of types, so it was a bit of pot luck as to what you got. I had the meat ones and a vege one which was shredded carrot. But they were hot, fresh and crispy so were good! The Vietnamese coleslaw with prawn was also good, and was crispy but it had quite a strong, and hot aftertaste which caught you by surprise. The spicy quail wasn't. It was nice, but it didn't have any bite to it and the crab claws stuffed with prawns were good. They came out hot and so we needed a few minutes to cool them down. But that good! Fresh food is the best.
Main courses were kind of standard. Beef with Chinese broccoli, is what the menu says but ours had capsicum, onion and beans. No broccoli, Chinese or otherwise in sight. It was okay but sort of standard. Chicken with satay sauce was next and again was just okay. The satay was a bit oily and wasn't anything special. Edible but not anything you'd rush back for. There was also prawns and scallops with snow peas. This was fine, though I still haven't got the hang of eating scallops with chopsticks. They were slippery! All of this was served with a combination fried rice which didn't have prawn in, so that was a nice break!
Dessert is nothing fancy, sliced fruit with tea or coffee but since only one of our table of 11 was having coffee, extra fruit was asked for and arrived. The cantaloupe was great, just the right ripeness while the others were just so so.Â
Overall a nice experience where they were eager to make sure that you had what you needed or wanted, such as extra chili, as evidenced by the little bowl and the jar (which okay is not fancy, but it's chili paste!) New plates were provided between entree and main that you didn't worry about getting flavors crossed and the wait staff were attentive with drinks without being forceful or overbearing. They were also happy to explain the short hand on the bill! Which is great when you are trying to work out what LLB is (Lemon Lime and Bitters!)
A nice restaurant that I'd go back to for a causal lunch or dinner if I was in the area. Some of the other desserts looked interesting!
Okay straight to the point, this place serves one of the best traditional Vietnamese dishes in Melbourne. On top of that the place provides a great atmosphere, attentive staffs and super fast service. Our order was prepared and served in less than 10 minutes during peak hours. We went with the meat and prawn slaw, fried chicken with salt, calamari, and salted fish fried rice. All were fresh and delicious! Best of all, they were not over-marinated or oily (as usually are among Asian restaurants). Definitely, give this place a go if you're into traditional Vietnamese food.
The staff were so lovely and accommodating it's not often I can find a dish like this that is fructose friendly . I was thrilled. My family and I were very impressed with our meals. The rice however did come out too late I had already finished by the time it had come out. Can't wait to come back . Tho tho is very clean and inviting
This is one of those places where my eyes are much bigger than my stomach!! I always order so much food, I love the food and it's so cheap! I've been a regular here for years and will keep coming back, I have managed to get a few friends hooked on this place as much as I am!
A number of people have told me to try this place. But I have been resisting it mostly because every time I walk past there are Aussies inside. This usually indicates that whilst it may be good for the Aussie or more European/western crowd it's not the real deal when it comes to Vietnamese.
In this case however, I have been proven wrong. The Vietnamese ice coffee is sweet, strong and very rich, just as it should be. Food is fresh and packed with flavour and it's not too pricey. The kids also devoured the food.
The place is extremely busy, so with the cement floors and high ceilings it's a bit loud. The other downside is trying to find parking. But that is the only thing I didn't really like.
Despite the business, the staff were quick to give us menus, take our orders and to serve our food which was just a joy to eat.
Unfortunately I wasn't overly hungry so didn't enjoy it as much I generally would. But I will be returning for more, that is a certainty!
Cheap. Delicious. Clean and didn't seem to have too many Vietnamese patrons so I was a bit worried about authentic flavours, but no - still authentic :). Also VERY fast service. Nothing to fault about this place. Oh, and nice strong Vietnamese coffee went down well. Probably won't sleep tonight :)
Decided to check this out after being turn away from Jinda Thai as we assumed it's a walk in without bookings. That's not true ... Asked to wait 90 minutes? 90 minutes? We decided to explore Richmond town.
Glad we found Tho Tho. Busy, yet service wasn't bad & the owner was busy friendly n very helpful recommending new dishes for our next return.
Duck salad, deep fried tofu, salmon in Claypot ...... Simply delicious. Others dishes were alright, not a let down to all 6 of us.
Tho Thos is one of my fave restaurants in Melbourne. Delicious food every time we go, the staff are great and very welcoming/always friendly. Awesome service!!! The food is very affordable and the honey chicken is to die for. Always love visiting Tho Tho's.

Simply very good food great team. This is a 3rd review on this site bit over 185 on Trip advisor I have been going to this place for over 10 years and as far as someone wanting a Menu yes they are their but we have just asked the guys what style of protein we want and leave it to them always good plus I have a bad reaction to added MSG and guest what no problems here. The place is always full the owner is always around in fact the picture f a baby on the wall is now working as a young man in his 20 something. We have people from Sydney coming to Melbourne who only want to eat here as the food is so fresh and well priced. We enjoy and will keep returning.
Same Old = GREAT. Not much to say about Tho Tho other than they are doing everything like they use to.
Menu choice has remained the same over the years and the food quality has not changed. Loving the com bo luc lac as always!

Ive had my birthday here 2 years in a row now. Affordable food, full bar, good food made quickly and the birthday desserts... Well..... Imagine what a deep fried banana and ice cream balls can look like hahaha! Awesome place, might even make it 3 years in a row!

Was pleasantly surprised about this place having known it's existence for some time but preferring to go to other Vietnamese restaurants down the rd for authentic Viet fare. Only had grilled chicken with rice vermicelli but thoroughly enjoyed it. Ingredients very fresh and portions good size for the price and chicken very nicely cooked without it being too salty or tough which you commonly get from over marinating the meat. Would like to come back and try other dishes. Place is extremely noisy though.

Sure, you may not always get the happy welcoming waiters you get elsewhere, but they are always attentive, get the food and drinks out quickly, and are efficient........and it's the food I go here for anyway. Fresh fast hot delicious. I have been coming to Tho Tho for over 20 years, the service is quick and efficient and food is fresh, tasty, hot and delicious and very reasonably priced.Also BYO wine, great at anytime for something relaxed and casual. Noisy fun and child friendly. Pity they don't have a Tho Tho Bayside they would make a killing. The culture of this restaurant is what makes it appealing they are quick and knowlegable, especially if you get the older waiters. They have the best rice paper rolls outside of Vietnam!

Fantastic as usual. Ive been coming to tho tho for many years now, and a long break, came back last night - the prawns in lemongrass and chilli and singapore noodles are still just as fresh and brilliant as they ever were. Took a friend for the first time and they were just as impressed - 5 stars
Best on Victoria Street. We've been here many times and consistently get delicious food. A great blend between authentic Vietnamese and the "western" Asian food (ie: lemon chicken and fried rice). Highly recommend the chef specials (salmon or pork belly rice paper rolls). We're a huge fan of their rice vermicelli and believe it's the best on Victoria Street.
Let's just say you don't come here for the service. However, the food is always awesome. I've been coming here for about 20 years and will continue to do so. The entree Chicken Satay Skewers are absolutely the best in Melbourne.

Tho Tho. I loved their food a lot!!!!! I think it's the best Vietnamese Restaurant. If anyone tries to persuade me to not like their food I would say "It's the best Vietnamese Restaurant ever!" :)
One of the Original Vietnamese. I started going there when it opened about 1990, and i even attended this address when it had sausages and eggs when it was Wrigley's Hotel. You cannot beat the service, i still do not know how they do it, the meals are served quickly and efficiently. I have never been able to find any fault in their meals, always good value and always tasty. Next time a friend has a birthday, take them to this place, and for a laugh order the 'banana fritter' for desert for the birthday boy.
Come for the food, ignore the indifferent service... You're not paying for it.
Food was excellent especially if u like extra chilly paste then ask waiter for jar of chilly paste. It goes really well with fried rice or noodles or any curry base sauce. I went with my friends on friday evening so it was really busy and service was bad.
It's those salmon cold rolls!. I love love love the salmon cold rolls and order them every time. It's also the satay prawns - damn that satay sauce is good! I also really enjoy the Vietnamese coleslaw. Service is very efficient (though not exactly friendly) and I'm happy with the value for money. I keep going back... must be those salmon cold rolls!

Fantastic for what it is. Just had to update my review as I was reading the other reviews and couldn't believe it. People who seem to expect 5-star service here- are you joking? When you are going to a cheap, no-frills Vietnamese joint (which is exactly what this is), you are not paying for service, just good, cheap quick Vietnamese food. People really need to take a reality check, it seems to be so common now that every diner spending $20 on a meal feels that they are entitled to silver service- it's ridiculous. If you want amazing service, go somewhere where you're paying more than $100 per person for dinner.
This is a normal, Asian restaurant. Noisy, abrupt (but hilarious if you have the right attitude) service, no frills. I love it! As per previous reviews, if you choose somewhere like this for an 85th birthday you're asking to be disappointed!
Although there are cheaper (and grottier) places in the street, no-one could possibly say it's expensive, and it is definitely good value for money. The food is good, fast and consistent, and the waiters are actually quite hilarious if you understand their sense of humour & manner. I've never been disappointed here.
Accept it for what it is and you'll be really happy with Tho Tho's. And next time you're having a casual birthday meal, ask for the naughty birthday surprise!
Nice food at a reasonable price. We come here regularly for Sunday lunch and always order particular dishes knowing they're good and tasty. The beef satay is one of those - used to be the best around but has changed recently, which changed it from 'great' to 'nice' in my opinion - and the Vietnamese pancakes are also delicious.
The service isn't particularly great and you can be in and out within half an hour if you're not careful but the quality and taste of the food in general is good. Used to go here every three weeks (at which point the staff actually became somewhat 'attentive') but started to venture out to other Vietnamese restaurants and although a couple of others are also fine Tho Tho's remains a favourite for its food.
Good, cheap, simple Vietnamese food. Nothing fancy about this place but the service is friendly and the food is tasty and good quality. It's noisy, crowded and the staff are constantly rushing from one table to the next - it's no fine dinin experience - but the simpleness is part of its charm
Thoughts concerning Tho Tho. I've eaten here a number of times; it's one of my fave Vietnamese restos, although it's not that cheap.
LIKES: The food: Their spring rolls, chilli squid or spicy calamari (which is what I usually have here) are usually very good. The decor: One occasion we had a birthday party here and my nieces loved the decorative water feature at the back. The toilets are also spotlessly clean.
DISLIKES: Tho Tho is really noisy when they're busy. The service is invariably unfriendly bordering on rude, although I will admit they are quite efficient. The dinining area is also very large and a little bleak.
Would I recommend Tho Tho's? Absolutely yes, but it's not a great place for a romantic meal though. Their value for money is also not the best; my Cokes were small and expensive.
I love Tho Tho's the service is always fantastic, my man and I have been regular customers for 4 years and everytime we go there which is at least twice a month we are never dissatisfied or disappointed food is always consistent, service is fantastic, food is at your table in five mins! Best thing to order there which is my absolute favorite "satay chicken" it's the best I've had in Melbourne, the vegie spring rolls are awesome, beef & garlic is amazing & ofcourse you cant miss there special bday cakes! Hilarious! I think they should open in other locations! They'd do so well! The ppl that left bad reviews have probably had one off bad experiences! Make sure you try it out you can't go wrong!

Worth it for one dish in particular. Although some people complain about the staff being arrogant / rude, it can't be denied that they are very attentive and it's always easy to grab a waiter's attention. FWIW, I haven't found them arrogant, although when a friend of mine asked when they arrived at the table with beansprouts / mint etc. for his pho that the beansprouts to be lightly steamed, the waiter was quite annoyed he hadn't specified this when he ordered. Fair enough I suppose that he should have done, but it should be fairly easy to just say "of course, sir, no worries".
Anyway, I wouldn't let a grumpy waiter spoil my meal. What really makes Tho Tho special for me is their Rare Beef with Lemon. If you go, make sure you order this, you will not regret it. YUM.
Best on victoria st. This must be the best vietnamese place on victoria st. Food is divine especially veg rice paper rolls. I could eat here everyday. Staff are friendly also.
