Review Belles Hot Chicken - Richmond

Susan D
Great southern fried chicken wings - twice cooked. The wings are coated in variety of spicy levels to cater for every taste bud. The range of sauces is also yum. Blue cheese one sauce with medium spicy wings is my choice.
Jessica Liu
Fresh chicken made with crispy skin and cooked to the level of hot you can handle! Quite expensive for what you get $17 for 3 drumsticks. Ribs are delicious with a sweet and sour tang.

Really fantastic food and drinks ove the few visits. I have found the service to be fairly lacking and we were not met with any niceness, however this should not deter you from a visit. 4 stars
Benjamin Murphy
Perfect crisp, chicken was so tender! Great crunchy chips that are well seasoned. The Mac & Cheese was super creamy and very very good 👌

Best hot chicken you'll ever eat in ya life! Don't come here if you can't handle anything spicier than mayonnaise. Was recently busy when we came here however they seem to be onto it with service and quickly delivered food!
Tommy Carron
Chicken too oily, lacking flavour and overly bland. It’s expensive and poor value. We left dissapointed and with a sickly feeling. Great service by staff though.

This place is almost doing too good for it's own good. The food was great, but service continually overwhelmed. Chowing down on some great chicken is a bit soured when you can hear the manager getting snarky at the kitchen when they can't keep up with almost impossible demand between a crammed full store and delivery services in and out. While I wanted to support their decision to use natural wines, I'm glad the waitress got me to try them first - very strange flavours which didn't seem to hit the mark alongside the chicken. Their specials are definitely special and the food consistently good.

I've been to the Fitzroy one a few times now, but this was my first time at the Richmond branch and it didn't disappoint! When we got there at around 2 on a Sunday, it was quite quiet and we got a table easily. Service was friendly and efficient! My friend loves the chicken and waffles here and I really enjoyed my spicy chicken sandwich, though it wasn't spicy at all and I think they should ask for the heat level for the spicy chicken sandwich too!

We ordered the drumsticks and chicken tenders with coleslaw and chips as sides. It was all o.k. I must admit I was expecting the food to be really good, but nothing special.
Gece
I came here with high expectation. Tried their tenders, mushroom, chips and pickled veggies. They’re good but not my kinda chicken lol.

I especially love the mushroom. Thick portobello shroom with crispy batter. We ordered the ‘hot’ spiciness. Probably will the spicier one will taste better. The chicken was still juicy.

If you like western style chicken, worth a try.
AHungryMan
I had the fish slider and drumsticks with mac & cheese at a medium spice level. The hot fish slider is just like a super charged filet o fish. It was nice and crunchy with a good amount of heat to it. It also had a slice of cheese which blended really well with the spice.

The chicken was crunchy on the outside and still juicy inside while the mac & cheese was creamy with a mild flavour.

Definitely would recommend people who love fried chicken and super spicy food. Also a great spot to relax with a couple of drinks.

Hot fish slider - 4.5/5
Drumstick - 4/5
Mac & cheese - 3.6/5
Service 4.5/5

Went here on Sunday for a girlie brunch. Opted for the bottomless brunch. We got the tenders, in hot. The meat was so tender, and the spice was just right. The waffles were amazing, so fluffy! Even though I saw them taking them out of a packet in the kitchen, I was so shocked at the amazing quality. Will 100% be back, the cocktails were good, and we left... druuuuunk

Perfectly okay, but nothing to rave about...not really sure what all the hype is about in regards to this place. The chicken wings are good, but the menu lacks variety and all the side salad options are drenched in mayo. We also got mac and cheese which was stodgy and fairly tasteless. The blue cheese sauce isn’t great either. Wasn’t the worst meal, but probably won’t revisit it either.

Usually in Australia, when something is “very spicy”, it usually just tickles what little chilli tastebuds I have. So I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered the “Very F***ing Hot” version of the Chicken Wings - it wasn’t exactly very f***ing hot, but pretty f***ing hot. That being said, the flavour of the chilli itself wasn’t exactly to my liking but regardless, the chicken was still tasty. The chips and the Mac and Cheese were also pretty average, however the broccoli salad was incredible due to its dressing. Overall, the food was above average, the atmosphere was hip, and service was decent.

I had heard great thinks about Belles and finally tried it. It’s epic! The macaroni and cheese is so delicious and I really enjoyed the chicken dishes. I’ll be back for sure especially when hungover :)
AaronN
We found the chicken here ok, but probably not good enough to justify the hype. Chicken was a bit dry and the coleslaw left a bit to be desired.

this chicken... is heavenly. 10/10 crunch factor 👌
service was great! ordered two baller buckets and it was more than enough for 5 people 😋
ate here yesterday but I'm already craving the chicken mmm

I’ve been to Belles many times and thought it was time for a review. Every time I walk into the restaurant I’m greeted by the lovely staff that never fail to make my time there enjoyable. Usually I get the ‘belles chicken sandwich’ as you can see in the photos and it honestly one of the best burgers I’ve had. Overall Belles is an amazing restaurant and I highly recommend the chicken sandwich and old bay fries 😁😁

Looking at it from the outside, didnt think this place would be so good. Awesome, friendly staff and when they say hot chicken, they mean hot! Great time overall
Chomp
Two is probably a little harsh, but when I order the ‘really f*cking hot’ wings I want them to be flaming hot! The chicken was well flavoured and juicy, the broccoli and almond salad was a refreshing contrast. However, it felt a little like fast food and rushed and for a place that specialises in chicken it was average and on the pricey side. Overall it was enjoyable and fun but I probably won’t be back.

Ok so this place is abit smaller than expected however their chicken was fried to perfection, juicy and very tasty! We got the original and the hot flavour and it nearly blew my head off! Now the negatives, we ordered pickles and it was abit soggy, the sweet tea was definitely SWEET! Price is average for a place like this but the service was very poor, staff was abit blunt, no smile when we paid, not even a greeting, took our money and that was that. Would I come back to this place no! Me and my wife have been to better fried chicken places with better service than this.

The food is great. The reason I gave 3 stars is that we went there on a group of 8 people. We sat on two table but they came to us and ask us to leave since they don't allow multiple people on two tables as per their policy. That's strange since other tables were empty. Anyway, they created very bad reputation among my colleagues and my office by this behavior.

I visited the hairdresser the other night and my original post cut and colour plans went awry on account of the restaurant being closed (within its published opening hours, don’t you hate that). My hairdresser came to the rescue with a recommendation of Belles Hot Chicken which we’ve never tried in Melbourne (there’s one in Sydney) so off we went for a southern style feed.
This is inexpensive American style food. The chicken is very crunchy yet still tender inside. I had the chicken sandwich which is effectively a burger with a side of some of the yummiest most flavoursome fries I’ve eaten. All washed down with a mint tea because when in Rome. Quick and satisfying and hugely filling

Great, tasty Southern style chicken! Belles is fantastic as a pre-game snack or dinner. Been here twice and loved each time, and will return for a third to try the chicken and waffles! Would love to see more options added to the menu to try, but you won't be disappointed here regardless!
Streaky Eats
Best American style fried chicken in Melbourne by far. Big pieces of chicken and the meat is well coated in batter. The crunchiest fried chicken you'll ever have, and it's not at all dry inside, very tender and moist in fact. Well brined, seasoned, and battered fried chicken.

Never thought eating wings could fill me up, this place changed my mind. Tried drumstick and wings, because it's so well seasoned and battered, 100% go for the wings. Reason is simply because the wings have a meat to skin ratio closer to 1:1, so every bite is definitely going to give more flavour with the best texture (crunchiness of the batter to the tenderness of the meat) compared to the drumstick.

Go for medium if you want to enjoy your meal and hot once in a while to keep things exciting, unless your tolerance is higher.
Foodies.and.Coe
Delicous chicken before the footy, and was still excellent despite getting takeaway. The drumsticks were perfectly breaded, fried to the perfect crunch, with a moist tender inside. Chips were also delicous, and that extra seasoning really added some flavour.

What can I say? I've really enjoyed Belle's Hot Chicken in Fitzroy, and this location was no different. We made our lives difficult by ordering way too much food, but loved the fried chicken and the pickles (as usualy). The peach BBQ ribs (definitely underestimated how big this "snack" would be!) was also nice though quite sweet. The service was excellent and the cocktail was also delicious.
Kulbeer Singh Sidhu
To be frank, I didnt expect an Aussie place to provide food this spicy. I loved the spices laden wings and pickles in the bucket. Not a big fan of there mac and cheese but liked the coleslaw.
Angel Khong
Fried chicken is always good! But, I especially loved Belle’s choice of meat, heat and sides. Their chicken was very flavourful, tender and moist, and their sides perfectly balanced the fried chicken. They had great selection of drinks as well.
Eater123
Great fantastic service! Great food! The serves are huge so come hungry! And while you might be tempted to get fried chicken and chips, it's a lot if fried, the slaw is great and the chicken comes with cute pickles on top :)
Dine And Dash
I've been here 3 times now and they are yet to disappoint!
I usually come here with a few friends to dig into the $65 deal with the 16 wings, 4 sides and 4 sauces. The chicken wings are hot, spicy and delicious. The crunchy fried chicken are perfectly seasoned and came out super hot which is exactly how I like my food! Of course there are grades of spiciness for you to choose from including "really F'ing hot"!! The slaw and chips went very well with the chicken as well.
My friends and I are always satisfied after eating here. The customer service on the other hand, isn't as great as the food - the staff don't seem too happy to be working there but the taste of the food definitely overrides the attitude of the staff!
The Pet Roo
Who doesn’t love fried chicken! Ordered the drumsticks with medium heat, accompanied by fries and a side of pickle. The Chicken came out nice and hot, so hot I couldn’t hold it but I’ll never complain about a meal arriving nice hot. First bite of the meat and that lovely crunch I was hoping for was evident and it had a lovely spice. However the fries seem to have the same seasoning as the chicken so there was no contrast between the two which was overwhelming. I think there should be two fries option as plain chips would have complimented the spicy chicken. I dunked my chicken into the peach bbq sauce which was very tasty. All up there were the positives of hot and crunchy chicken and the negatives of too salty and not balanced and because my dinner came to $21 (chicken, chips, sauce and extra side of pickles) which is a tad pricey for fast food then I expect perfection!!
Spicynoise
This place is definitely somewhere you go for a treat - it's not cheap! I was also a bit annoyed to find out, after I had ordered, that there were specials on that day (on not very obvious chalkboards) and the staff hadn't even told me. Gah!
I had high expectations, being a fan of spicy food, but sadly the drumsticks I had just tasted of paprika with a bit of heat. Maybe it's because I expected too much from medium, but still.. they just seemed to taste like raw paprika. Perhaps next time I'll go hotter.. that might fix it.

Probably the best thing (aside from pickles) is their cardamom lemonade. Seriously refreshing and delicious.
Don'tMessWithMyFood
Another favourite Uber-Eats option for Friday Lunches at work.
I personally like the tenders so I don't have to wrestle with wings or a drumstick
Sides: fries and coleslaw are both good
Consistency in flavour was an issue. First time around we had a mix of Medium, Hot and Really Hot and decided that Hot was a good balance for the team.
Second time around, Hot was barely hot (maybe they got it mixed up with Medium on the day).
Anyhow, it's tasty fried chicken :)
Don Djoe
Pricy! I don't think I can refrain myself from not saying that. The chicken though, tasted great and spicy! The chicken tenders were my favourite. But the wings were awesome too. The slaw was probably my favourite side dishes over there. It didn't taste bitter and quite sweet. Overall awesome place if you don't mind the price.
Pooch
Be careful. When they say hot, they mean hot! I had the chicken sandwich and a hot tender and hot drumstick. Everything was really nice, especially the chicken sandwich. I love spicy food, and the REALLY HOT was almost too much for me. I might have to try the REALLY HOT next time though...

How cute is this place! Super for a date with your man (not first date as food is quite messy and chicken is HOT). If you want some southern fried chicken with some delicious old bay crinkle cut chips, hurry up to get down! You are able to order the chicken with varying heat, so for those who cant handle the heat, there is a mild version to cater for your taste buds. Relaxed ambience, friendly staff. Super tasty!
Melbourne Food Journey
Choose your part of the chicken, your desired heat and a side and get ready to feast! I adored these super tasty chicken tenders with a perfectly complementary ranch dressing and a sweet peachy BBQ sauce. The mac and cheese was so creamy, as was the consistency of the coleslaw. Also if you're an iced tea fan like me, check out the mint iced tea- so sweet, I'm craving it!
DamoForce Food
We had not heard to many good things about this place. But we were surprised when we went in on a Friday. Staff was friednly and ran through the menu. The chicken tenders were nice and the ribs were fine.
Jessie1079
Boy oh boy.. My boyfriend absolutely raves about Belle's so I thought it was about time I tried it. Customer service was 10/10, very friendly and welcoming. And the chicken was very succulent and juicy but gosh I felt crook leaving here..just real fat food..friend chicken, mac and cheese, ranch sauce..All a bit too much for me. Tasty stuff but I think I'll leave this one for the boys on their seedy sunday uber eats orders.

Well, if you got OCD(Obsessive Chicken Disorder) this is a must visit place in Melbourne. They have several outlets and Richmond outlet is the best among them. It has the perfect ambiance and I feel so happy to see fellow Chicken lovers enjoying delicious food.
Chicken comes in various spice levels and believe me I tried them all. Don't recommend to order Really F'ckg Hot level as you know if you abuse one end of your body other end complains too😆.
I like Wings for their crispy outside and succulents inside with perfectly seasoned old bay fries and some pickles. Try it and I assure you will go back wanting for more.

Good southern fried chicken in melbs. Do thoroughly like their medium chicken tenders with Alabama sauce. Tend to get takeaway from here often but find the chicken tastes better when dining in.

This was our second visit to Belle's, the first visit was underwhelming but we wanted to give it another shot because of all the glowing reviews. I ordered the chicken sandwich with mac and cheese as the side, my partner ordered (hot) wings with old bay fries and we shared the chicken ribs in peach bbq. After a 15-20 minute wait the food arrived and it all looked pretty darn good.

Unfortunately, it was all so underwhelming and unjustifiably overpriced. I knew it wasn't a good time when a few bites in I was thinking that I couldn't wait for it to be over. The mac and cheese was cold which worked in my favour because I was starving. The chicken was coated in a thick red powder haphazardly disguised as flavour but all I could taste was poultry grease with a handful of paprika. My partner could only get through two dry wings because the flavouring was sickening and we only tried a dry rib each because we just couldn't bring ourselves to try another - the flavour and coating just didn't work for us. Perhaps it would've worked better without the batter/breading?

There are so many great places to eat that offer more for a less pretentious price. Based on the reviews I'm glad I at least gave it a spin but fool me twice, shame on me.

I ordered hot drumsticks, unfortunately the chicken was very under cooked and the side dish was tastless. Not happy with the experience, not going back again ever..
Mitochondria Powerhouse
Ordered the southern wings and chips, my companion ordered medium wings and pickled vegetables...

The southern wings were pretty plain, only really had the taste of salt and whatever oil it was fried in. The coating was quite harsh, and cut away at the roof of my mouth and buccal vestibule. I had the same reaction to my companion's wings, the coating was damaging, and the wings plain - with much the same taste as the southern wings with the addition of general spiciness.

The chips were plain, and had no taste despite all the visible seasoning. The pickles (cucumber & vegetables) were the highlight of the meals. They were perfect in texture, taste and sourness.
Lisa Giles
Really delicious and succulent chicken here. Ordered the tenderloins and the old bay fries, both were delightful. The Peach BBQ sauce was a great addition as well. It's a bit exxy but well worth it for good quality fried chicken. Will continue to splurge here every now and then!
Edgar Darmawan
Tasty chicken here. Had the chicken burger which used chicken tenders as the meat. The chicken was seasoned nicely but a little dry. My friend who had been here before said they used to use nicer chicken as a 'patty' but I didn't know any better.
Kate McCallum
A bit disappointed. The chicken tenderloins were very dry. Served on a completely random dry piece of white bread. The chips were tasty but the chicken couldn't be redeemed.. even with a lot of sauce.

Great service! Came here for lunch after a night out drinking.
Ordered the most spicy fried chicken and the broccoli salad as a side. It was amazing.
Chicken was very tender and actually very very spicy. Salad could've been better and thats the reason I'm giving 4.5.
Service was fantastic, definitely felt welcome and would come back just for the friendly staff.
Overall price is a bit on the higher scale for a few more bucks, so it can't be a regular place for the amount of food you can get with that price tag.
FattyM
REALLY REALLY GOOD CHICKEN HERE. Light and crispy on the outside and still succulent on the inside. A little pricey for myself as I don't really see the justification of spending $18 or so for 4 pieces of chicken but if you're gonna spend some money on some chicken, do it here ! Great place to hang out with a few friends to try a bit of everything with.

In regards to the sauce, I'm bit of a lightweight so got southern and mild (the 2 least spicy ones). Southern had no spice/chilli but it was still very flavoursome in its own way. I thought I could handle mild but I couldn't hahaha. I was in pain from the heat but it was so good I had to keep eating and just eat sides in between to soothe down the spiciness so I might stick to southern!

Damn that chicken is spicy! Yikes!! Belle's in Richmond is in the category of: not too bad, but not that memorable. Service is quick and to the point, however not that friendly. Chicken and waffles pretty good; our tenders were cooked very well. Stay clear of the clams! Not worth the price as the amount of meat you get from them is minuscule. My friends chicken sandwich was amazing and I should've ordered that. The overall flavour of the deep fried bird is alright but it really lacks any 'wow' factor (not including the blow your head off chili powder aspect). Worth trying but wouldn't become a regular in our food travels.
Michael Elliman
Pretty average.
Overly seasoned chips and chicken. I assume the extra seasoning on the chicken is an attempt to be spicy. Biting into chicken almost creates a puff of powder. The most spicy chicken sauce on the drumsticks was just a thicker cover of powder which wasn't that spicy. The 'hot' tenders seemed spicier than the drumsticks. Miss some decent spicy chicken
Timinmelbourne
My friend and I came here for dinner. They chicken is HOT haha

We had the chicken strips which were too dry for my liking. Maybe they cooked the chicken too long?

The kitchen staff have a birds eye view laughing at punters sculling their drinks and grabbing serviettes. And I wasn't the only one haha

My fav for the night was the BBQ sauce and the spicy hot chips were a winner too. The side dish of slaw was average.

For some reason my side dish of broccoli and almond slides was stone cold, straight out of the fridge!! It sent shivers down my spine every time I tried to eat it haha
Joshua David Jenkins
My friend told me about this Southern fried chicken place so I had to try it. Had Tenderloin strips hot with chips. 5/5 loved it and want to try wings next. Might try medium not hot.
You would be forgiven for thinking this is some pretentious hipster wannabe chicken joint. However, where is differs from other chicken joints in Melbourne - it delivers. This is the best chicken I have had outside of the US. Delicious, perfectly cooked chicken wings and tenders. Tasty Ranch sauce to take the edge off, and the house special Mississippi Comeback sauce will keep me coming back. The homemade Cardamom Lemonade is a welcome respite from the mouthfire. Tasty sides and interesting cocktails.
Fatcat
satisfies fried chicken craving ✓
food is fast ✓
missed the mac n' cheese special (╯︵╰,)
broccoli and almond salad surprisingly good ┌( ಠ‿ಠ)┘

Oh my oh my oh my! My first foodie related event for this blog. First up, lemme introduce you to the underground hype of this event. Matty Matheson of Munchies fame, owner of ‘Parts and Labour’ and ‘Dead Set on Life’, and overall cool ass dude; has been visiting Australia on a food bent, collaborating with chefs all over including Morgan McGlone from Belles Hot Chicken.
Renae Harrison
Came here for the first time pretty close to closing time on a Saturday night so we had to get take away. Service was great and friendly, food didn't take too long and the southern fried chicken tenders with ranch sauce were delicious, chips were good too.
Gastroman
Came her with a friend and we had both of the sandwiches, one chicken, one fish. Both a side of the Old Bay Fries! All was very good, including the service, plus good value for money!
Good casual spot on Swan street.
The Dear Luncher
“You’re perfect yes it’s true. But without me you’re only you”

If you are a regular reader of The Dear Luncher’s Zomato reviews you will have realised by now that he is rather fond of fried chicken. Korean Fried Chicken has been consumed in gargantuan quantities of late, but The Dear Luncher hopes to now remind people that nobody does Fried Chicken better than the Seppo’s. OK I get it, this is an Aussie take on American fried chicken, but that’s beside the point. The same can be said for any cuisine in Australia. Where to begin with Belle’s? Well for starters, the dedication these folks have to providing countless options. Wings, drumsticks, tenders, ribs, buckets, sandwiches, burgers and even fish. The beer options were great (Brooklyn Lager on tap, big tick) and there was a 3 hour happy hour while Your Dear Luncher was in attendance, resulting in $5 schooners of Coopers Pale Ale.

The Dear Luncher ordered the wings, but also agreed with a colleague to partake in a wings/drumstick exchange. You can choose your desired level of “heat”. The Dear Luncher opted for “hot”. In addition, pickles on the side and a blue cheese dipping sauce. The Dear Luncher also ordered the Carolina slaw. Choosing the right heat level is important. Whilst The Dear Luncher does consider himself to be a bit of a heat merchant, there’s enjoyable heat and then there’s unenjoyable heat. Hot was just right, and this was the 3rd hottest on their list with Really Hot and Really F--king Hot above it. The chicken was excellent in its quality. The drumsticks were preferred over the wings; they just were a little bit easier to consume and fleshier. Head sweat levels were high, but all within acceptable parameters. The blue cheese dipping sauce was fantastic. The heat of the chicken (temperature wise) did not seem to drop the entire duration, this was strange. It felt hot to the touch even 15 minutes after it was served. Perhaps this is some kind of deep fry magic trick.

Every dish that was served to The Dear Luncher’s entourage looked terrific, in particular the chicken burger.

A return is inevitable, as this venue ticks every box.

Great relaxing family meal on a Saturday afternoon. Had the big bucket with wings, southern flavouring. Also had chicken tenders with the same flavouring. Sides were chips, coleslaw and mac'n cheese. All very tasty.
The Eater
Way too much seasoning on chips. Chicken ok but not amazing. Broccoli salad tasted nice but visually didn't look that fresh (like it had been made a couple of days ago). Disappointing overall.

So we’ve been getting a lot of negative reviews about Belle’s especially their new Prahran branch. So Hollywood decided to give their other branches a try and visited the Richmond one for a quick hit and run of some Melbourne Fried Chicken. The order was simple, tenders with a mild setting accompanied with coleslaw and a Mississippi Comeback smokey sauce
Myk Law
Too much paprika! Couldn't taste the chip, just paprika.
Overall chicken is pretty good, not to dry and not too battered. Okay serving size with 4 tenders and a decent amount of chips but still not worth $18.
Had 4 sad looking pickle slices included.
Better takeaway places for this price.
The last time I went to Belle's Hot Chicken, it was at their Fitzroy branch. We got to try the really f'ing hot chicken and it was so hot I tasted basically nothing. My tongue went numb before I could taste anything and all I got was a bitter aftertaste from the chilli.

This time around, we knew better than to order the ridiculously spicy chicken. We ordered the "hot" which was just right for us. It was enough to give us a bit of a kick without losing out on the taste.

My husband had the chicken with the waffles ... which for some reason they only offered for weekend lunches. He said that the sweetness of the maple syrup and waffles complemented the chicken well, almost like a salted caramel kind of pairing. 4/5

I opted for the more traditional chips and chicken combo with a ranch dressing. Loved the ranch dressing. Loved the chicken too ... it came piping hot. 4/5

Service was nice and prompt. It was also good to have wet towels at every table. I must've used about 10 pieces of tissue just because the chilli gets everywhere! By the end of it, my husband and I both concluded this was no place to eat "elegantly" and they should consider adopting Nene Chicken's approach of handing out plastic gloves to patrons. My husband found out the hard way when he accidentally rubbed his eyes with his hands, which had remnant bits of chilli left despite wiping with wet towels. Ouch!
Paul
The best chicken burger (sandwich) I've ever had. Friendly staff, good beers, excellent food. Will definitely be back here.
Two Dinners
I couldn't really fault it, although it does have an expensive fast food feel about it. The chicken is tasty, served at piping hot temperatures. (Warning for your mouth) the piece of bread at the bottom was nice, finished my meal with a chip butty. All in all pretty good, will return a second time.!
FOOD TRIP
Belles Chicken via Ubereats. Efficient delivery and delicious chicken. Overpriced for what it is, but I would probably get it again. Winter Slaw (included as side). Great coleslaw, but too small even for just one person 6/10. Chicken Wings + Side of Coleslaw $16. Fantastic fried wings! So very crispy outside yet super moist inside. The meat just melts in your mouth. Pricy for chicken, but I’d recommend trying out 8.7/10

Stumbled across Belles hot chicken whilst on our way to lunch elsewhere and decided to change our destination and try this place after seeing so many positive reviews and recommendations on the Urban List.

Had high hopes for this place and when the food takes 15-20 minutes to come out I was expecting spot on juicy and tender chicken. Unfortunately my chicken was a bit on the dry side making it really difficult to eat even with sauce. I ordered the "hot" chicken tenders for $17 and chose slaw as the side dish and my friend had the "medium" drumsticks $16 with old bay fries.

My dish was basically deep fried chicken tenders covered with chilli powder- it wasn't pleasant to eat (and I like hot n spicy food). My friends drumsticks were more moist and tender with crispy skin on the outside, for that she rates it 3/5 (she tried a piece of my tenders and could only manage a bite). The fries were crispy and tasty but the slaw was flat and didn't have the tangy flavour to it (kfc slaw probably tastes better imo).

Both of us got "sick" of our food after eating 1 piece of chicken and struggled to keep going. Overall I did not rate this place, definitely had better fried chicken than this.

If I was to come back here I would try the chicken burger or the chicken & waffles on the weekends and avoid ordering the tenders!

Sweetlikesugar
I've been here once before on opening day, which was good so thought we would come back last night as felt like a chicken sandwich.
Bun was soft, fresh and wrapped around the chicken. The chicken is a thigh fillet coated in the medium spice. I think I would prefer a chicken breast but it was still good. Lettuce, cheese and a spicy mayo type sauce completed the sandwich.
Chips were fresh but a personal preference would be to have an option of just normal chips (no seasoning, just salt). I just felt with all the seasoning on the chicken it was a bit much, also makes you very thirsty!
Service was great, staff friendly and efficient.
Been here over 5 times now and the only thing I've ever ordered is the fried chicken sandwich. It's the best fried chicken burger I've ever eaten

Man - what a find! I ordered of Foodora so not sure if it came from Richmond or Windsor however I'm sure they're almost identical in product. Got the 'hot' sauce - it was intense to say the least, has been a long time since I have been able to find a spicy sauce that kicks. Combined with the blue cheese sauce it was a great meal. I don't particulaly like chips or fries so was a little hungry after the four tenders, perhaps I needed to combo with ther mushroom or something. In doing this it would bump the price up for one person though!
Good Food, Good Mood
Not for the faint hearted aka someone who can't handle a lil spice. Richmond Belle's is my favourite of the three 👌
Great location, friendly staff, and they also deliver through UBEREATS!!! My favourites are the hot tenders or the ribs. I've never tried anything hotter than 'really hot' but I've certainly seen people in the sweats from it. Also try the homemade mint tea if you don't want a boozey lunch/dinner.. 🍗🍗
Simone
Tenders were really soft and juicy, while the drumsticks had a nice crisp coating. Slaw and chips were yummy, and can't wait to try some of the other sides. Proving was quite good, definitely recommend!
Chris
Many positive reviews brought us here and we had the wings, tenders and chips but seriously the taste was very salty for us.. Don't like it!

I feel like chicken tonight, like hot chicken tonight!!! Belle’s has opened on a ‘getting very trendy’ Swan Street and we love it! I remember there used to be barely anywhere to choose from when popping to a gig at The Corner in Richmond and wanting to get some dinner. Now there is the poshest Hunky Dory and the poshest Grill’d and they even cater for the Messina crazy gelato lovers!! And they have Belle’s, hailing from Belle’s Diner in Brunswick they have brought their fresh vibes and spicy chicken to Richmond and we were happy to pull up a stool at the window and enjoy some damn good chicken!

What a joke! I have ordered take away for 4 pieces of tenders but when I opened it I saw 4 tenders and the pickles on a piece of white bread. I am sure you can get the same one from supermarket, just buying a pack of white bread and buy the frozen chicken cook in oven. $17 in total I spent in there but you can use it in supermarket and you can buy a lot of white bread and oven-cooked frozen chicken.

Love the fried chicken burger! We had been to the other stores a few times and this time was our first try of the chicken burger and it was so delicious! Just how we expected and everything we had was nice and quick. Cant wait to go back and eat more!

Chicken was crispy outside and tender inside. Medium was still too hot for me I could only have two maximum. Best with beers.

Chicken was good, moist and nothing wrong with it all all. I guess when you go to a place that specializes in one food you want to be blown away and I wasn't. Would go back but not rushing back. The mac n cheese which was a special should be permanent as it was very good.

Been here twice now and enjoyed it both times. Ordered the tenders this time but I ordered it hot which I never do because last time I got southern and it needed more. Hot was to hot for me but that's my fault the chicken was moist and delicious and the Mac and cheese was special... Very small though. Had a chicken wing medium and it was that good

There are some nights when the cravings for fried chicken are just too strong to resist, but instead of settling for my local KFC, we popped into Belle’s for some freshly fried, Southern-style chicken. The Richmond branch is relatively new but just as good as the original, offering your favourite cut of chicken with a choice of spice (Southern to Reall Hot). If chicken isn’t your cup of tea, there’re also fish and vegetarian options. Add some sides, a sauce and a bottle of beer, and it’s the perfect combination for a fun Friday night with friends.
Holy chickens! We just left here and far out it was the best of the best. Now I love it hot. Like super hot and the hot is hot but next time I'll do the really fkn hot.

Service was top class. Now I love my vino and they have a terrific list of wine ranging from early 50 to 200 bucks. Not bad.

Chicken tenders - southern were divine. The pickled vegetables had a lot of spice and the chips so crunchy.

Chicken sandwich was probably the best burger I've had of late - so good. Best part was the super hot tenders - I looooove it hot and these were too hot for the partner but for me ace. As I said next time I'll go really fkn hot - might boost the metabolism for the super calorific meal haha.

Ps. Don't wear white or grey like this black duck. All over my top on my chest and all the uber drivers who deliver (we saw like 30 in an hour!) were copping a perve. Wear black!!

Edit had ubereats here last night (again) and everything was top notch! I ordered the really really hot and this time it wasn't hot but it's definitely got me addicted!!

Best fried chicken!! Our new favorite. Good friendly service. A must try for all fried chicken lovers. A beer or 2 goes down really well with the spicy ones!

Last time I went to Belle's in Fitzroy, I got a little cocky (ha, see what I did there), and ordered the really hot chicken, thinking I could handle it. I consider myself to be somewhat of a chilli fiend, but I couldn't even come close to hacking the heat.

This time, I wasn't going to make the same mistake at Belle's Richmond, as I wanted to enjoy my chicken rather than cry. The menu appeared to be slightly different, but similar enough. I ordered the brown meat (drumstick + thigh), hot, and a side of fries ($16). And an extra side of mac and cheese cause yolo.

I recall the portion sizes at Belle's Fitzroy being quite small, so I was glad to see Richmond didn't skimp. I had a tall pile of crinkle cut chips coated in paprika salt and two pieces of spicy, succulent chicken placed in front of me. I was so happy, I could have cried.

Thankfully, it tasted as good as it looked. I also ninja'd some of my friend's waffle, which was AMAZEBALLS, and immediately regretted not ordering waffles while frowning at my side of mac and cheese. To make up for my sadness, i dipped my chips in his maple syrup, which somewhat of a decent consolation prize.

Would go again. Must try dish: chicken and waffles. Get a side of fries. Why not.
I was asked by a colleague WIR? Prob not!! Although it's better than KFC. It really doesn't justify double the cost. It's good fried chicken tho! Nice n crisp. But $15 for a drumstick a piece of breast and a piece of white bread?? come on!!!

Tried Belles Chicken last night as I was craving FRIED CHICKEN badly.
CHIPS ARE AMAZING! couldn't fault them. Seasoning was delicious and they were fresh and hot.
The Chicken was however VERY SALTY. I love salt but it was a little too much for me.

I would try it again though.

Wow. Where to begin. Place looks great, funky and great looking restaurant. That's where the positivity ends. I had the hot chicken drumsticks. Stupidly spicy and placed me is hospital with food poisoning for 24 hrs. Avoid like the plague

Yummy chickeny deliciousness. If you're a fried chicken fan, this is your Mecca. The spicy heat is pretty accurate so I wouldn't try the spice level of "pretty f*kn hot" unless you have no tastebuds or are prepared not to be able to finish your meal. Loved my chicken burger, so super tasty but my only issue is their bread bun is a bit sweet brioche style...which is just a no no.

Had the chicken tenderloins one level beneath really fn hot and it was the most intense ever! I consider myself a spice fan but couldn't handle this. Also had the chips. Felt really ill that night and into the next day... Too much !
Affogato Addiction
Delicious chicken, not cheap though. Will only be a sometimes treat for this price. Takeaway a good choice if you are a local and don't want to put up with the super loud music (it's a weeknight I don't need the doofdoof with my wings).

Casual Friday night feed. Good chicken tenders (other cuts available) served with your choice of coating (warning hot has some heat, hate to think what the next 2 above this are like), plus your choice of sides (we chose coleslaw and chips). Drinks available. Desert not available - but Gelato Messina is conveniently right across the road.

I seem to always be craving fried chicken at the moment and Belle’s certainly satisfied that craving. Great chicken, lots of options, friendly staff and reasonably priced beer. Seriously, who could want more in life?. EAT: The friendly (but not annoyingly so) staff ran us through the menu, first you pick your meat, then you pick your heat and your side and any extras. Simple enough. I had the wings with the southern heat (a.k.a the heat for people who are wimps like me) and the pickles (next time I would skip the pickles as every meal comes with pickles). We also tried the ‘hot’ and man was that thing hot! I salute the people brave enough to thy the “Really F***in Hot” heat. (There is also the vego option of fried Mushrooms instead of chicken). Everything was absolutely succulent and delicious.

Not nice at all. Disgusting chicken and nasty potato salad with Granny Smith apples mixed in it. I have a stomach ache now from that! It was a very dissatisfying and I really didn't like it. I will not be going back and would be truly surprised if this place is still open in 2 months.

We had been to the Gertrude Street original Belle's and loved it- so I wanted to try out the newer establishment.
Interior is basic but the service is friendly and helpful.
Menu is as basic as the interior. We ordered the chicken burger; fries and Southern tenders and a side of macaroni cheese.
It is all very basic food. Tasty 'hangover'/ comfort food. The portions are large and very shareable.
The best of our selection was the chips and I made a mistake on ordering the macaroni cheese- not great.
Would we return? Probably not. I think if I was in need of some stodgy grease post a big night sesh- we would just pop into the local KFC- it would be cheaper and closer to home.

I was really keen to visit Belle's Hot Chicken and when they opened up in Richmond we popped in one Sunday for a late lunch to see what all the hype was about.
We ordered the chicken wings, a chicken sandwich (which is really a hamburger) and crinkle fries and a beer to go with it as well. They had sparkling water on tap and you could have as many refills as you liked.
The chicken arrived after about a 15-20 minute wait and come presented in a plastic red basket.
We loved how juicy the chicken was and the initial southern flavours of the spices were OK, the hand cut pickles were thick and crunchy which you needed to balance out the meal. But we found that about half way through the meal how oily and salty the meal really was for our tastebuds. We think it was probably because we're not used to this style of seasoned chicken but the oiliness was off putting and I had trouble finishing the chicken and chips.
If it had been drier, I would have preferred it.
Otherwise the place has a nice fit out, friendly service and a young happening vibe.

Great addition to Swan street food scene, the chicken is superbly cooked. Crunchy on the outside and juicy in the middle. Be prepared to get messy!

Absolutely love this place, just like its sibling in Fitzroy, Belle's does the best chicken ever! Not too fussed about the sides they are all good, but the chicken is the main star here. Drumsticks and a thigh over the wings anyway of the week.

Do: the chicken obviously, with a side of Old Bay fries.

Don't: be afraid to get the "hot" since its not that spicy.

Tip: weekdays aren't busy so it's pretty easy to get a table for an express lunch.

Simple menu and delicious chicken. Choose your spice level, side and dipping sauce. The rub on the chicken tenders is full of flavour. I had the hot spice and it really popped without spoiling the other flavours. Big serves at very decent prices makes Belle's good value.
Has a solid wine and beer list to go with the chicken.

One word: Impressed. Been to the one in Fitzroy but i believe this one is better. We sit down in a nice ambience and ordered not soon after. We got some chips to share and drinks are reasonably priced. Once the food came just WOW. I got the Really Hot Dark Meat with chips and comes with a pickle. There are 5 spice levels to choose from and choice of meat from Dark Meat(Drumstick + Thigh), Tenders and Wings. Also choice of side: Chips, coleslaw, extra pickles.

The dark meat just wow. The meat was juicy and tender. The flavour was southern American oriented with the spice level of really hot kicking in. The chips have nice seasoning as well: crinkle cut. Pickles added that nice sour flavour to it. JUST AMAZING. Only downside was the food took long to cook around 30mins but it was busy I have to admit

Will come back again in a hurry!!!!!!

Tight grab for seats at peak lunch hour, and the food took quite a while to arrive (20 minutes). Had the chicken tenders at hot, and they certainly left the lips sizzling, a tasty treat nonetheless. Would definitely return.

Great flavours & the chilli hit on the f*cking hot spice level is great. The wings I found were a bit too oily for my liking. Great atmosphere though. Not too sure if I'd be back unfortunately.

Holy Friggin' Hell that was hot. Friend and went in there got hot ones and holy friggin' hell they were hot. PLUS theres 2 hotter ones too i cant even imagine how hot they must get. anyhow if u go in there I reckon just get one hot one if youre gonna get two plates and if you are a real maniac get one of the hotter ones only if you eat chilli a whole fricken lot. Thanks

Was so excited to try this place after hearing about it securing its location 5/6 months ago. What a disappointment! Inside vibe is cool and has very helpful staff, but the food is below par. Chicken tenders were ok but just over seasoned and what used to be mushrooms tasted like clumps of 5 spice. The only reason it gets a 2.5 is because the service / set up and presentation are good. Chipotle dip and pickles were good also.

Select a cut of chicken, level of spiciness and a side - nothing better than perfectly cooked fried chicken coated in spices. Highly recommend the crumbed oysters appetizer. Make sure you look at the small piece of paper that comes with the menu which has a couple of 'specials' such as Mac and cheese. Very busy restaurant, be prepared for a 15-20 minute wait if you have a larger group.

Chicken is cooked to perfection! Juicy and of course spicy - if you are game enough to try anything hot and above! Coleslaw is recommended if you aren't to confident with your pepper tolerance ;) Completely different to Gami

Staff are great and shop fittings are modern. Belle's lager is a decent tasting brew.

Belles Hot Chicken the fried chicken sensation has "crossed the road" to add another destination this time in Richmond. Swan Street is alive with new premium openings and Bells Hot Chicken has launches with more soft landing than fanfare. With an amazing response in Sydney, Belles Hot Chicken is taking all before it.
