Having a Burmese background & growing up with my mothers cooking, mi mi (head chef/owner) has really captured the Burmese vibe ... the kitchen is open, so everyone can see the cooking & also smell the aromatic joy (really reminds me of my mothers kitchen) They have all the traditional Burmese dishes, mohingha, Ono kuswar but also have fusion of Indian, Thai & Chinese on the menu ... it will cater for all Asian tastes. The decor is on point with Burmese paintings of villages life & of course the Insprational Aung San Suu kyi ...

Delicious food. So many options and I love that you can select the spice heat level, from mild, to medium, to very hot. Lovely people, very friendly service, pleasant decor, and a great place to eat.

Literally just before lockdown part 2, my partner and I had dinner here again.

The service is lovely, really genuinely friendly and happy.

The beers like Mountain Goat Organic Steam Ale is great and the food very good.

The list of vegetarian dishes were limited but we shared a sour vegetable curry. The curry had a nice mild flavour with a small amount of vegetables.

I had a lamb curry which had some good flavour and the meat was tender.

The servings appeared small, but they were suprisingly filling.

The service was quick and attentive. I'd happily go back again.

Unfortunately i deleted some of my photos so now I'll have to go back lol!

One of the main reasons I initially started on Zomato was to travel the world of food with my partner and to try different cuisines in Melbourne. And I haven't eaten Burmese before so I was excited to visit this restaurant.

I had dinner here w my partner and we enjoyed some great food. W a kitchen in the middle of the restaurant I felt like I was at home, well almost lol

We stared w roti bread which was ok but the chickpea sauce was delicious.

For mains we had a chicken and cashew dish which was amazing, so tasty! The chicken was great and the sauce was excellent.

The other main we enjoyed was egg noodles w chicken coconut masala green curry. This was really tasty too. We were given some dried chilli to accompany this dish, which was good as this dish lacked some spice for me.

But overall the service was good and the concept excellent. I’d be happy to go back anytime.

Burmese House restaurant has been running for many years. Claiming to serve authentic traditional Burmese it is a good find considering there are only a sprinkling of Burmese establishments in Melbourne. The place has a comfortable ambience and its colour theme of purple and green against exposed brickwork give it a modern feel. The staff are friendly and the small open-kitchen impeccably clean. It is impressive how the staff can juggle all their serving needs from this tiny section in the middle of the main dining area. When I was there a wedding reception was taking place upstairs and they managed to serve this large group without neglecting other customers. The food is flavoursome and worth coming back for and there is bar service as well as byo wine.

I had the Chicken and Long Melon Curry, Ginger Salad, Coconut Fish Cakes Curry, Banana Pudding and a Tapioca Pearl, Sweet Potato and Grated Coconut dessert.
The best dish was the Ginger Salad. The flavour was really nice and there was a nice crunch although we weren't sure what for.
For the curries, both of their sauces were tasty. However, I feel like I should've ordered them "extra hot" because I believe that was an option. I chose the fish cake curry because I read a review saying that they were very good, but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed, probably because I had too high expectations.
The banana pudding was unexpected because I thought it would be like sago pudding or jelly but it actually tasted similar to banana bread.
The tapioca pearl dessert was really nice and I was surprised at how the sweet potato nicely complemented the rest of the dish. It was also a bit salty but I think that added to the dish.
The reason why I gave it five stars is that their service was exceptional. They were extremely accommodating and the chef was also very friendly.

Best fish cakes in Melbourne!! They make it fresh with a insanely good dipping sauce! Everything else we've had was also delicious. We come here for homely comfort food :)

Cosy restaurant with lovely staff. Feels very homely and the food is cooked with love and care. The traditional music a nice touch - although it could have been a bit louder to provide more atmosphere.

We brought some relatives here for dinner on Tuesday to experience some Burmese cuisine.

This is my second visit since our date night here 3 years ago. It was delightful then and still is this time round overall.

We started off with:-

Tea Leaf Salad: great palate cleanser/starter. The earthy flavours of pickled tea leaves and crunchy mixed peas were a pleasant combination.

Marrow Fritters: these soft and sweet melon battered strips went well the tamarind dipping sauce.

Next up:-

Pan Thay Kauk-Swe: whilst the flavours were nice and intense, these curry chicken noodles were a tad too rich for my liking.

Mandalay Mout-Te: these stir fried chicken noodles faired better in my opinion. Loved that hint of acidity through it.

And finally:-

Chill Pork: delicious. The sauce was flavoursome with hints of fish sauce.

Chilli squid: two thumbs up! Although we ordered this dish, knowing that the sauce will be the same as the chilli pork, it was the only squid dish they have on the menu. However, we reckon that the sauce shone more with the squid rendition.

Shredded beef: all round favourite of the night!

Prawn salad: a simple salad that was a nice accompaniment to the other dishes.

Chin Paung Hin (roselle leaves with bamboo shoots): did not shine on its own, although it paired well with the meat dishes we had.

Hot pounded shrimp paste (akin to Malaysian Sambal Belachan): this paste does require one to be accustomed to the strong smell and taste of shrimp paste to begin with, in order to appreciate it. We all are, and we loved it.

To finish off:-

Burmese pancake: not a favourite. Decent flavours let down by dry pancakes.

Banana pudding: winner! Great flavour profile and texture.

We washed all these down with a pot of Burmese tea which had a humbling aroma and an earthy note.

Service was warm and helpful. Great night overall.

Been coming here for the last 10 years and it still doesn’t disappoint. FYI- It’s been open for 21 years which is amazing for a restaurant on Bridge Road. We had our old favorites Tamarind Chicken and Shredded Beef. Delicious. Must go back more often.

Absolute delish! The Mohinga is super authentic. I usually go there just for this and the green tea leaf salad. My partner had chicken masala which was quite good too.

A cosy Burmese reataurant in Richmond. The staff are lovely, although they could do a with a few more hands on deck. Had a couple of dishes, but the tea salad was the highlight.

We came here last night for a change of pace, and found the food to be delicious, with flavours that are very different from those found in other Southeast Asian cuisine. The meats were cooked very well and each dish tasted very different from each other. I recommend trying the Chili Chicken, as it featured a delicate balance between saltiness and sourness. Furthermore, the staff was very friendly and very helpful when suggesting dishes for us to try, and didn't hesitate to candidly answer our questions about their mother country. We'll definitely come here again!

I love a good tea leaf salad and the one at Burmese House hits the mark. I'd come back just for this dish. We also ordered a couple of curries - the tamarind one was my favourite. A cheap and cheerful dining experience.

Thanks to its bright big quirky orange teapot signage, Burmese House got our attention.  Perhaps it is also interesting that Burmese food has been vastly influenced by Thai, Indian, Laos and Chinese that got us really excited. The interior looks almost “homely” with its rustic walls and bluish purple doorways and its open kitchen area next to the dining that gives you that “ever-familiar” sound of stir-fries.  The menu has an extensive list of dishes to choose from but we can see that their specialty is in the curries. Marrow (long melon) fritters served with tamarind sauce – $11.80 First entree served was Marrow (long melon) d

When it ain't broke.... We had our wedding lunch here 15yrs ago and we always come back when we can even though we don't live as close. The food is still as good as I can remember. Even my husband who was originally from Burma liked our meal. Thanks to Mimi for continuing to run this place.

Very impressed with their salad. I think this was the first Burmese restaurant I went to. Their tea leaf salad is soooo delicious. You literally can just snack it. I had their national dish of the rice noodles curry soup, and it was okay. But yea, the tea leaf salad is gonna be the reason for me to come back.

I love this restaurant when I crave for Burmese food. Love their service. Food is delicious as well. My favorite dish got to be the fish cake salad and the fish curry. My only advice is this try to come with small group as they have a small kitchen to produce your meals. My all time favorite Burmese restaurant in Melbourne!

Great Meal in a Pleasant Setting. We went with a voucher that represented terrific value, three entrees, three mains, and a desert and drink. Not only was it great value with generous servings but the food was all excellent. We had fried chickpea, melon fritters and fishcakes followed by a pumpkin curry, Masala Chicken, Tamarind Beef and a tapioca desert. All of these had beautiful flavours. The portions were so generous that we could not finish all these tasty dishes and rice. The service from all the staff was most friendly and efficient.
We will certainly return again soon.

Nice food and atmosphere. Went here on a Wednesday night with three friends, brought a couple of bottles of wine with us. The restaurant is lovely, the open plan kitchen adds to the atmosphere. The waitress was lovely and brought us an ice bucket for our white wine.

The menu is diverse, we chose the coconut curry chicken, and some of the tamarind beef and chicken. We also chose two starters, the fish cakes and the chickpeas . The food came out quickly but we were the only people dining there. The fish cakes were quite bland but the chickpeas were lovely. The coconut chicken was also delicious, but my friends were a bit disappointed with the size and the taste of their dishes.

Overall, nice food and atmosphere, but for the prices the sizes could be a bit more generous.

For Sure-mese!. It had been years since dining here and will add it back into my regularly-visited after our evening here . Went down on a Thursday night with BYO wine and had a great one. Lovely food- really unique flavors- and adorable service. Every little detail was attended to. Loved the open plan kitchen and watching the chef do her work. No tea leaf salad so was instead recommended the ginger salad. Try this or the other for certain. Gorgeous flavors. You will enjoy!

Authentic & delicious Burmese food! Highly recommended!. Authentic flavours and great service with a smile!

I have spent my early years in Burma and can call myself a discerning foodie for Burmese cuisine:)

The 2 signature dishes, namely Ohno Kaukswe and Mohinga are the closest to the local flavour of Burmese national dishes and street-food. Well done, Mimi!

Needless to say, I have become a regular customer over the years.

Burmese food isn't really my cup of tea - the curries are alot heartier and not as rich in flavors as some other Asian curries. But this restaurant was cosy, drinks were well priced and the serving sizes were a tad on the small side for the price (~$18-20 per main) but filling and delicious nonetheless. A cosy family run atmosphere. Good if you are looking to try something different from the usual Asian eataries.

Love this restaurant. I hadn't been to Burmese House for about 10 years. Tonight I found the food and service impeccable, with flavours that are different to Thai and Chinese. The tea-leaf salad, a Burmese national dish, was absolutely divine and worth the trip by itself.

Would definitely give Burmese House Restaurant more stars if I could. Mimi, the owner was super, super nice and accommodating. We had our daughter’s 21st birthday party there. Mimi opened the restaurant specially for our private function at lunch time. The menu she suggested was a crowd pleaser. Every dish was cooked with love and we can’t recommend this place highly enough. Thank you Mimi for such a special day!!!!!

Authentic Burmese food. Flavourful and generous serves. Good prices and friendly family atmosphere. Long serving head waiter knows everyone and they greet her like an old friend. We enjoyed Tea leaf salad, long melon fritters with tamarind chilli dipping sauce. Egg noodle coconut chicken soup mild flavour...add your own lemon juice and fish sauce with raw onion. Rosella leaves curry with Bamboo shoot and prawns...spicy. Burmese tea for two is a large leaf green tea pot brewed.

Came here on a Saturday night at about 6. By 7 it was pretty much full. Service was quick at the beginning but then got really slow during the night. I felt that maybe they were short staffed. I saw one person from upstairs come downstairs to get some service. Despite this the food was beautiful and very flavoursome. We ordered the fish cake, fish soup, stir fry chicken and the tea salad which was by far my favourite. The crisp of the tea leaf combined with the crunch of the fried beans and the zest and saltiness of the light dressing makes you keep wanting more. Despite the slow service I would come back to try the other dishes on the menu. Would suggest going with a large group to try more dishes at once!
