Big Dogs Deli
The service was good. We sat out the back in the courtyard and there were some toasty heaters to keep us warm. This is an American style casual cafe.
We started w an organic cider which was absolutely delicious on tap. Woo hoo hihi what a great start to the night.
Hungry we ordered 3 mains. We are w the vegetarian Eggplant Parma ciabatta which was soo good! It had some delicious ingredients and all I can remember is WOW! Lol
Next was the KFC or Korean fried chicken bun which is self explanatory and it was very good but too much buttermilk bun for me.
But the overall winner was the JFO. This was veal and pork meatballs, tomato sugo, smoked scamorza, pecorino and herb oil on a magnificent toasted sub!! Woo hoo, gosh I could have eaten these all night!! Hahaha they were that good!
This place is yum!

Great sandwiches/burgers. Friendly and accommodating staff as well. Drop by if youβre feeling sandwiches. I had the KFC Bun which was awesome!
Big Dogs gets a Big 10/10 from me. The atmosphere, the staff, the sandwiches; keep me coming back again and again. Be sure to try the βBig Dog Sandwhichβ
The signature 'Captain' - Pastrami brined, smoked and steamed in house, finished with a crunch of zingy sauerkraut and Russian dressing with a side house made pickle and house made potato chips. (Add some house made chili sauce if you like a kick). With basically everything made in-house, Big Dogs Deli are kicking some serious goals in the sanga department. When in Richmond - 100% hit these guys up - lunch and dinner available!
By far the best sandwiches Iβve had in Melbourne. A cute little deli tucked away in Richmond with a quiet, charming atmosphere and a large variety of delicious sandwiches. The Big Dog sandwich is my personal favourite, but Iβve tried many others and they are all amazing! Hidden gem that deserves more recognition.
Amazing food. Great beers. Friendly staff. This place is a must. From a midweek lunch to an evening in the back courtyard, Big Dogs satisfies for whatever the occasion.
I've been here quite a few times now - the food is sensational... seriously tasty!
The concept is such an original idea...Β Highly recommend sitting out the back on a sunny day and smash a sanga n' beer. Blisss!
Couldn't tell you another place like this in Melbourne. Must try!
Honestly the best sandwiches I have ever tasted. The Bucks Beef is a favourite! The extra effort is shown with hand cut home cooked crisps, hand cut meats and in-house made hot sauces that are brilliant. To go even further their in-house made ice cream sandwich is probably the best I have ever tasted!
K-Bun & J-Fo.... seriously good stuff!!! Easily one of the best sandwich bars I have ever been to. Get down and try it if you havenβt already.
This place was really good. The sandwich was fresh and cooked perfectly, and the girls were really friendly. I canβt wait to go back and try the rest.
My friend and I came here a few weeks ago for dinner. We both ordered something different and our sandwiches were 10 out of 10, cooked to order and all fresh ingredients. I canβt wait to go back and try more. Extremely tasty sandwiches!

We tried this last week and we enjoyed it !
We loved the K bun! So gooooood! Really recommended. The chicken was crunchy and soft inside and the bun was on point!
Besides this, the house made chip was amazing too! Had it with their aperol spritz β they made a great combo.
Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch at this shop. I ordered the Cuban Wingman, a pressed cuban sandwich, with layers of pork, ham, pickles and cheese. An absolute delight. Great ambience and good service. Will be back for more.
Love coming to this place for drinks. All their pickles and sauces are handmade. The courtyard is much nicer than local beer gardens, as is the beer selection. Nice crew. Will be back again.
amazing service and amazing food! thank you! Absolutely loved that fried chicken sandwich and the home made chips. Will be coming back again and again!
Fantastic food and sandwiches here, very similar to what I've had in NYC. can't wait to go back here again soon. The only negative is that the restaurant is quite small so large groups wouldn't fit.
Love big dogs! Not many places around town do a good deli sandwich quite like BDDs. Usually try different sandwiches whenever we go and always pleasantly surprised. Would highly recommend extra crisps. Enjoy!
I found this a great little lunch spot. Very friendlyΒ staff. Good beers and wine and some delicious sandwiches. Good if you want to sink a pot and get your fill.
DO: The Bucks beef, K Bun or the Big Dog
DON'T: Forget to add the crispy bacon to everything.
TIP: Gets pretty busy at lunch obviously so try to avoid by going before or after. Great Little find.
Great freshly prepared, classic, well done sandwiches served in a cool bar type fit out with a quality limited selection of drinks and funky tunes in the background. Tried the "J Fo" sub with Veal and Pork meatballs in Italian sugo and smoked scormoza cheese including a side of house crisps - both were delicious. I liked the spicy kick of the crisps and that all the sandwiches come with a pickle. Keen to come back and try more of the lunch menu and also the evening offerings too.
Been here twice now, first time was quick tasty work lunch and second was for a few drinks and bar snacks. Great service, great vibe ++ finger licking good food!
My partner and I decided to visit Big Dog's Deli after reading about it on Urbanlist. Putting It simply.. This place is great. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The sandwiches we had (porchetta sandwich and meatball sandwich) were delicious and full of flavour. The crisps sides were great and the mac & cheese is the best mac & cheese we have had in Melbourne. And we have tried a lot of them. We will definitely be back again and again.
Ordered the J Fo sandwich and cuban wingman sandwich.
J Fo was a disappointment due to its portion and cheese. Basil was a good twist though.
Cuban sandwich was good.
Liked the idea of pickled cucumber on the side. House fries was tasty too.
Not giving more than 3.5 due to portion size.
Visited for a quick lunch to see how good a sanwhich could be. Was very impressed by how helpful the staff was and the feel of the place. This is a decent sandwhich spot but nothing much more than that.
They do have their own chilli sauce which was okay and the chicken burger that i got was really nice even if the actual chicken was a tad bit dissapointing.
Would come again for a quick bite maybe but wasn't impressed.
Ever since reading an article about the arrival of Big Dog, The Dear Luncher has been waiting for an opportunity to pounce. Well pounce he did recently and it was a bout with pouncing that even the pounciest of pouncers would be proud of.
With a wide range of sandwiches and burgers on offer, selection can seem daunting. The Dear Luncher felt like the fat kid in the candy store, because he very often is the fat kid in the candy story and the feeling is all too familiar. The Dear Luncher quickly settled on the βK-Bunβ ($14). This particular item consisted of Southern Fried Chicken, blue cheese buttermilk dressing, pickles and crispy bacon on a buttermilk bun. For an extra $2 you can get house made crisps. These crisps were very similar to the ones Your Dear Luncher enjoyed at Wings Of Glory (review can be found on The Dear Luncher's blog). A good partnering these crisps, as the burger itself was hefty and quite filling. To wash all this down The Dear Luncher opted for the Colonial IPA, which was superbly balanced with just the right amount of hop strength and delicious IPA punchiness.
The Dear Luncher really enjoyed his K-Bun. A great combination of flavours in this particular contraption. As The Dear Luncher frequents Richmond quite regularly, the rest of the choices will be sampled in due course as well.
Best sandwich I've ever had, such quality ingredients
Β you can taste and see that a lot of thought has gone into this place, awesome vibe and lovely staff... Richmond's finally delivered the goods!
I walk past Big Dog Deli all the time and it always seems to be empty which is always a concern... however, upon entering I walked to the back of the store and realised there is a nice shady courtyard where most people sit to dine here.
I also thought the subs and burgers would be really oily and greasy. I ordered the J Fo and Quinoa fritters burger.
Both were very tasty and not the greasy oily drip trap I was expecting.
They were very flavoursome and definitely hit the hunger spots.
The deep fried crisps were also good as an accompanying side and the big ol' pickle was a good starter before choking down on the main.
Will come back to try more offerings.
Seriously good sandwich... Hands down the best Rueben in Melbourne, streets ahead of the others I've tried. You won't need dinner if you have this for lunch!
This place is freaking delicious!!! I can't understand the low rating! If you don't find the sandwiches delicious, you must be living in an alternate reality! Been here multiple times and it ticks all the boxes! Treat yourself!
Awesome food! The special prawn roll was delish. Cool outdoor space out the back for chilling out on a sunny afternoon. Will definitely be back!
Great food, try the porchetta sandwich they have just released. Have also had the meatball sub which was ace.Β
Pro tip: don't miss the courtyard out the back... it can be hidden!
Amazing food love this place can't to go back. Beer is good tooπwould highly recommend this place for any after good quality meat and cheese
All I can say is AMAZING! The best sandwich I have had in a very long time. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Will be back to try others! Yum yum
Been twice now, have tried the J Fo (meatballs) and The Captain (which is their version of a Reuben) both were really great. The pastrami was delicious, much better than anywhere else I have had in Melbourne. Each sandwich they have on the menu seems really well considered and executed and the staff are really friendly. Definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Went to try their famous Big Dog Parma but it turns out their Piggy Wiggy was waaay more delicious. Very savoury, crispy yet juicy pork. Highly recommended.
Wow! Got The Captain and eggplant parmigiana. Both were incredible. The pastrami was amazing, super tender and juicy. Highly recommend. The courtyard was very cute.
The best. Honestly, in terms of pastrami sandwiches (it's all I ate), I think he's guys are untouchable. Meats all smoked in-house. Limited hours but worth getting to if you can!
Easily one of the best sandwich shops in Melbourne. Super friendly staff and thicc sangas that always taste 10/10. Best eggplant parma Iβve ever eaten. Love u big dogs!!
Deeeeelishh!!! Wow, so glad we stumbled across this deli before the footy!! Reminded us of the quality subs we had in America! Very very good! π€€π€€ππ
Sandwiches were out of this world. Messy but delicious. Service was quick and it's not overpriced like it's neighbouring competitors
Finally a decent Reuben in Melbourne.
The pastrami had a delicious, smoky flavour with succulent crisp edges and complemented perfectly the sauce and kraut combination. The Rye was crunchy and fresh.
I was impressed by the volume of meat. Fair for the price, but there could have been slightly more.
The sandwiches here seem to be slightly more generous than Hector's Deli. BD Deli is a strong competitor, for sure.
Super tasty sandwich today. Piggy Wiggy was a feast. Will definitely return.
Accessibility Info: ramp up to the door then about a 4cm rise to the store level. All seats on the first level are high-top tables. Additional seating up a few steps. Patio in the back may not be accessible to mobility challenged.
