I came to work not the usual way today so called into Bendigo milk bar for a coffee and a grab and go breakfast. I used to frequent Bendigo more regularly when I live on Westbank Terrace but that was over 5 years ago now... tick tock. The cafe cabinet still had plenty of great looking food and though I had need up with an apple and berry muffin still warm from the oven. I had hardly any wait for my coffee which was great Coffee was still good and strong without the need to upgrade to a double shot. I like that this little cafe is away from the Richmond strips so there are more locals (or once upon a time locals) here than down Swan or Bridge.
This is truely a local cafe if I’ve ever been to one. It feels like you’re sitting at your friend’s kitchen table having brekky. My chilli scrambled eggs had a great kick and were very filling although I had food envy of my friend’s fritters!
Little local cafe hidden in Bendigo St. fairly dark and not an amazing decor so if it’s a nice day I recommend getting a seat outside. Ordered the beef pie which on ordering at $10 I almost fell over especially when the pie is cold to start with and the put it in the oven on ordering. Once it landed at our table and cut it open I could see why it was expensive and it was full of chunky steak. Pastry was good, flavours in the pie ok but needed more gravy but the relish on the side helped. Some adjustments could be made and it would be much better.
Having lived in Richmond for nearly seven years and walked past many times, we thought it was time to come and try the famous pies!
They had the chunky beef homemade pies available so we grabbed two of those with a side of tomato sauce and one with tomato relish.
The pies themselves were extremely filling and had about a 95% ratio of pieces of beef throughout. The pastry was lovely and thin, the pie itself was definitely more beef than pastry. For $9.50 they are certainly worth it as we were both stuffed once finished. Will come back again next time we feel like a quality pie.

This is a relaxed neighbourhood cafe, nothing pretentious here, just honest and hearty food.
Generous portions.
Friendly staff.
Ok coffee.
Superb cafe, nice set-up, great variety of food, burger, sausage roll, pie, schnitzel all delicious.
Was great on Uber, was my favourite but now no longer delivering to my address. No idea why.
Service was quite inattentive, minus 0.5 points.
Mains sensational as ever, doughnuts a little underwhelming, the salted caramel one was unpleasant, minus 0.5 points.
Nice cafe. It is quite loud inside though and always very busy with people coming in to buy their home cooked meals and freshly baked goods.
However I did sit down and have breakfast which was delicious and was very home style which was lovely.
The menu has some great dishes to choose from.
The porridge is unreal!!! I'm so happy I am only a few minutes walk from this place! I am yet to try other dishes as I'm so content with porridge!! It's a great serving size!! The staff are very friendly! The prices are very reasonable and better looking than other places in the street! Every thing you need is here! Including bread and take away dinners!!! Perfect local cafe!!!
Delicious & healthy chicken wrap and baked goods for a quick bite on the run!
Also a good place to chill out on weekdays.
Thanks for the quick and friendly service guys!
Our favourite little local. Delicious food options, great coffee and friendly staff. We're lucky to live around the corner from this place, its worth a visit.
Great breakfast place. Breakfast burrito and the "big one" were awesome. Everything was cooked perfectly and portions not huge. Cleanser juice perfect after a big night!
Great little local. Great coffee, great muesli, great spot to sit and read a book or catch up with a friend. I love it.
The first review is for Bendigo Street Milk Bar, which a best mate is one of the chefs and through him I know the owner a bit. Bendigo is your classic work horse. There is a good selection for both breakfast and lunch and there have been a number of improvements in the time I’ve been going there. Not trying to compliment my mate too much, I have noted vast improvement in the entire cafe over the time he’s been there. It has gone from solid to good.

Bendigo Street Milk Bar is a great local cafe in the Richmond/Burnley precinct tucked just off Swan Street. It hums with excellent food, personal service and brilliant spaces - including a funky outdoor area out the back where locals can enter through a side laneway. Owners Di and Mario Stefano have brought the love to this community icon in recent times. Milk bar, food store and cafe. It's one of the areas' treasures and locals love it. I enjoyed breakfast as a guest of Bendigo Street Milk Bar.
Sampled 2 things on the new menu and they were 10/10. Love this place.
Comfy Cafe. Really great local spot- friendly staff, great coffee and food and very relaxed vibe.
Breakfast burrito was excellent and always enjoy the pulled pork sandwich. The makeover is good except for the wallpaper but the friendly staff and down to earth feel make up for it! Great place any time of day.
Richmond secret. What a lovely little spot it is. Tucked into the suburban streets of richmond between swan and bridge. Bendigo st has a relaxed community feel with very friendly staff. Perfect spot for a sunday breakfast or brunch with an unbeatable Avocado Salsa, not to mention the exceptional coffee. If you're ever in richmond and need a cafe that you will feel at home, give Bendigo a shot
Review. I love our local cafe - Bendigo Street Milk Bar - we are so lucky to have this little gem of a place so close by. Lovely owners, staff who smile, are friendly and are happy to be there, great (and fresh!) food, and also those essential milk bar items...my only recommendation would be for more gluten free options - savoury and sweet. But I would give this cafe 5 stars! It is a great place to meet up with friends, is very family friendly, and also dog friendly too with seats on the pavement.
Loved it. A lovly cafe for everyone is so good.omg i loved the browny mmmm, coffe and service
go there
Delicious!. I've been a regular for bendigo street milkbar for months now and I am never disappointed! They always have delicious specials such as osso bucco. The other day I tried the Cajun chicken wrap for the first time and oh my god it was tasty! The staff are wonderful, the coffee is delicious and the atmosphere it always positive and welcoming! I don't know what I would do without this place!!
SUNDAY OUT. I had heard good things about this place from my neighbours and a couple of friends so decided to give it a go.
We were not disappointed, on arrival this unpretentious little hangout was very busy and welcoming. The two girls running the place were flat out but managed to make us feel like we were in good hands. I never write reviews but just wish that there were more places like Bendigo St which make you feel welcome and not privileged to be in the midst and it seemed like many regulars eating and drinking coffees I had an osso bucco with risotto and my hungover housemate had the corn fritters with a black bean salsa. My Osso bucco was sooo good, that i am calling in this week to see if I can take some home to pretend i cooked it for my boyfriend . Anyway glad we visited and we will be back ...btw hungover housemate commented that his breakfast hit the spot, just needed a bloody mary to go with it !!! Check this place out very worthwhile.
Lazy weekend hangout. We spent a relaxed afternoon having a beautiful lunch with friends at Bendigo Street Milk Bar. Sitting outside in the courtyard, listening to music while enjoying good, honest food was thoroughly enjoyable.
The service was impeccable. We felt like long lost friends, like we were part of the Bendigo Street Milk Bar family.
It is most definitely worth a visit.
Wow. I visited the Richmond Weekender site on Saturday in the pouring rain which was worth the trip, however even more so was my find of Bendigo street milk bar. This buzzing little cafe with every table full and a stream of take aways I did not know what to expect. The staff busy still greeted us with a warm smile and handed us a menu, my Warm breakfast salad arrived with perfect eggs and was delish with my Plus one ordering the bush spice Calamari which I tasted and is amongst the best I have EVER had. I would love to live in the gorgeous heritage building of the old channel 9 site but regardless of whether that happens or not I will be back to the Bendigo street milk bar soon to work my way through the menu....yum
Love it! Eggs and avocado on toast is my favorite... Iced coffee awesome.. Love stooping by for a coffee after walking my dog in Burnley Park. Staff are great and friendly too.
Oh how I've missed you!. Wow! Imagine a neighborhood where you could get eggs benedict, my special order coffee, milk, bread and a lemon slice, after coming back home after the school hols it is refreshing to remember some of the reasons I love being back home. Thanks Bendigo street milk bar - my local, and Mario and the gang for my strong creamy lattes.....I missed you
Fantastic, hidden gem!. Love this place. Great coffee, great food....what a find! If you are a local or just passing through this is the place to stop for a hearty feed or a quick bite on the run. Mario is the Man, service second to none.
Best cafe in richmond. Love this place!!!!!! best menu items are the mushrooms with thyme, spicy home made baked bean enchilada, home made chicken pies/ sausage rolls and eggs bendict.. the coffee is always perfect and the service is second to none. the friendly staff always make us feel welcome. ive become a regular!!!!! thx mario
Love it. Great fresh food, lots of different lunchtime choices that's constantly changing and parking always available and..... the staff are lovely.
A great little spot. Nice, fresh, home-style cooked food. Very friendly service and well made coffee. A really good local. Will be back.
The corn fritters were fluffy and the sweet corn kernels practically bursted out of the batter, and who needs meat when you can have a large, juicy mushroom instead? The tangy avocado salsa was a fresh counterpoint to the richness of the fritters and runny eggs, and I had no problems mopping this up, as full as I was by the end.
The hollandaise was rich and creamy, one of the better sauces I’ve had. However I would have loved a little more sauce since Yuye ate the dish first and he almost polished it all off. I gladly dipped my ham and muffin in the beautifully runny egg yolks though. We also liked the presentation of the dish with the sprinkle of parsley on top.
It's always great when someone invites you out to a restaurant or cafe and you find out it's actually been sitting on your wishlist on Urbanspoon for a little while. Which is exactly what happened with the Bendigo Street Milk Bar. Why 'Milk Bar' and not 'Cafe'? The owners, Diane and Mario DiStefano are invoking the nostalgia of what milk bars used to be, when they were little meeting places for the community, where regulars were known by name and would pop by to pick up the paper, pick up the milk or hang around and have a bit of a natter. I remember when we had a milk bar in our neighbourhood, when those little razor scooters were the 'it' thing. The kids would all get together and pop up after school, gobble down a billabong ice-cream stick or two, grab some musk sticks for the road and scooter down the hill back home. I also remember being quite sad when the milk bar was eventually bricked up and tu
