my go to for a decent chicken katsu! come here whenever I can for it at a good price, and the portions are quite big too. very homely feel and decent service.
Perfect weather for a Chicken Curry Don today and I took a chance on Kokoro in Richmond. I say chance because It seems a lot of places can be quite hit and miss out of the cbd. I need not have worried as my don was delivered pipping hot and with filled to the brim with a tasty and quite spicy Japanese curry sauce and a generous amount of chicken meat. Served with traditional pickles as a scattering of diced pea, carrots and corn this was a hearty lunch with a good sauce to rice ratio. it didn’t come with eating implements of any kind which I probably could have asked for but forgot.

I personally love this place, far more than the Modern Eatery. Their service, despite being of Asian origin, are pretty good. Yes, their English isnt that great, but they greet you when you enter, unlike Silverboy Bakery.
The food, from Sushi to Curries, WOW. Very tasty, and looks great when it comes to your table. The food comes out HOT unlike so many restaurants.
You literally have to blow on it, before you have a bite....unlike Silverboy Bakery.
Every time I have come during lunch time, there is a line to order. The food is cooked fresh. The tables ARE always clean. They have a good waitress constantly coming out to deliver food.
She is loud and clear and despite that people.....seem to not notice. Seriously ppl. Lunch time....listen up and get your food hot. Dont waste peoples time.
I brought my friends here once, and they enjoyed it. The service I always get, my friends got too. Which was great.

This place is a lunchtime favourite, you cannot go wrong with the teriyaki salmon bento! The sabo noodle stir fry isn’t bad either. Quick service and cheap pricing - win win!

The service was alright and the meals were ok too. I had the chicken terriyaki bento box and my friend had chicken terriyaki w rice.
My bento box was interesting, w salad and dumplings, rice and a chicken terriyaki drowning in a sauce w onion. Too much sauce for my liking but overall it was a reasonably cheap meal when your in a rush.
If you want some Japanese that's quick n easy then this may be your place.
You might argue that the dishes here are not authentic japanese dishes, and i agree with that. However it is still quiet good. Not super good but good enough to be above average. I ordered pork curry katsudon and was pleased with the portion. For that price, its a pretty decent value meal in the neighbourhood.
I love the food at Kokoro! It's the best Japanese good I've had. The service is always very nice and attentive. Continuously good and satisfying jap for the price 👍🏼
There's reason that there's a queue out at door at lunch time, the sushi is awesome!!!! The tempura calamari is definitely my favourite, can't wait to come back and try more of the menu
Although it is not owned by authentic Japanese people, this little restaurant is amazing! The setting is cosy and the staff are friendly and cheerful. On top of that, the food is cheap, delicious and fast. What more could you ask for?
Been waiting so long for this place to open! It was worth it!!! The staff are friendly and the food is amazing. I first dined here two days ago eating the Katsu Curry, and then again for the salad. Very happy with both :) I definitely recommend this place! Cheap with generous servings!
Sushi as you like it. This brand-new sushi bar/Japanese is right in the heart of Swan Street. It's quite informal and offers a great range of raw fish favourites plus noodles and other goodies, including salads, to eat in on its café-style tables, on the footpath tables outside or to take away.
Prices are extremely good and the fish and rice top shelf!
I've been twice in a week and love it.
In the price/quality tradeoff Kokoro scores very highly in my book.

Friendly staff, the lady that works there is always smiling and very fast... restaurants are so lucky when they have amazing staff. I guess that is why this restaurant is always busy!
I loved the sushi I had they were tempura rolls, flamed salmon sushi and salmon sashimi. The prices are really affordable. Salmon sashimi was fresh only under $20 for 20 pieces if I remembered it right. Although the place is a casual not so grand. I was happy with my food and the prices, not to mention generous portions too. And the owner doesn’t seem so friendly at first and doesn’t talk much but I could tell he was smiling behind his mask to see me enjoying his food ☺️

There is plenty of seating inside and out with alcohol available. Easy access for wheelchair or impaired accessibility.
Conveniently open on a public holiday, which is much appreciated whilst on the way to the Australia Day Cricket.
Great little hidden quiet beer garden out the back… but you won’t find it unless you ask them. Reasonable prices and fast service
