Review Aroy-d Thai - Ringwood North

Poor hiring recently! Love this place! The owners and staff has always been awesome. Recent experience demonstrates poor hiring when staff member(male) told me to do without rice because he could not be bothered to fill my order. Take a credit he said. I was not happy! In response, his manager sent me the rice which was required for me and my family to eat our ordered meal. His demeanour was not in keeping with the fine experience that I have experienced over a number of years! I hope that they deal with his lack lustre performance and if I have the unfortunate experience of dealing with him or another like him, I will never use this establishment again.

First time here for dinner with friends. Staffs were friendly and attentive. We ordered two entrees and a few mains to share. The vege spring rolls and curry puffs were good but a bit overpriced. For the mains, both the roast duck and the curry beef was a bit dry. The fish and the vegetables were good. Overall it’s ok.

Been coming here for years, always enjoyed quality and quantity, came last year for my anniversary walked out still hungry. Ordered take away a few days ago and my container was only just over half full..I will not be going back!!

My meal was plentiful yet disappointing. Other meals looked good. Bit noisy & slow service.

Ordered take away last night for 6 pm ans collected it. 3 mins from home. It was the worst Thai food I have ever had. It was barely warm, tasteless and very little meat in either of the stir fries ordered Never again.

Got takeaway, very disappointed. Pad thai tasteless, very little in the dish except noodles. Green curry with roast pork not great and served with stodgy rice

First time getting take away from this restaurant...I ordered Thai fish cakes ,4 tiny rubbery and tasteless not to mention cold. I live one kilometre away... ordered coconut prawns , 4 overcooked rubbery tiny and bland also cold...and Tom Yum with prawns , I knew as soon as I lifted the lid it was not anywhere near a traditional Tom Yum ...it was a grey cloudy broth with corn Spears which were Brown on the tips..limp dark broccoli half of a small raw mushroom some sliced carrots and bits of raw zucchini and three small rubbery tasteless prawns. .. will never go back. . I ate this rubbish as I was hungry and didn't think to take before photos... But did take photos of the prawn tails from the coconut prawns to demonstrate the grade of prawns used , not even the size of a peg... cost over $30 ... Very substandard ..

Highly recommend. Food was delicious, lots of choice and really quick delivery.

We've eaten at D'Aroi regularly for 10-years, the food is great and the service by Pat and his team always friendly. It is easily the best Thai in the Ringwood area. All the meals are lovely, our favorites are the Massaman, Pad Gatium, and Gang Penang but the meals and curries are all great. The meals are not too hot but the kitchen will spice them up if you want. We often take our kids and partners for low key celebrations and have always had a great night.

After 13 years, the food and service is and always has been reliable for eat in and take away. A friendly, cosy place to meet friends and family😊

Amazing thai food. Regular take away-er but nice to eat in when possible. Tip - better food on less busy nights :)

Excellent service and food. Red duck curry so yummy!!

Dined here for an early Fathers day dinner. Restaurant was not very busy although take away seamed to do a steady trade. Food was average, have had much better Thai food than here. Service was very unattentive. Overall good company average food.

We came to Aroy D last night for a late Father’s Day dinner. I was really craving some coconut water and was surprised to see a Thai restaurant doesn’t have fresh coconut (or even a bottled option). Entrees to begin were spring rolls, roti bread and chicken skewers. The skewers were accompanied by a pretty stingy amount of satay sauce as was the bread which was disappointing.

Main wise we tried the green curry, pad satay chicken and pad Thai chicken. The pad Thai was one of the most random renditions I’ve ever had. It tasted like it was covered in ketchup, certainly not the flavour I was expecting and not particularly enjoyable. I did like the pad satay dish though and the green curry was nice and fragrant with a decent kick. Not a lot of coconut coming through on the rice though. Overall a bit hit and miss

Original review
Attempting the diet life this week (hit a bit of a pasta snag Day 3 at the Winter night market) a friend suggested pizza for dinner yesterday so I countered with Thai thinking I could opt for a healthy stir fry. Both of my dining companions had visited here on multiple occasions but it was my first time, and it was definitely my first time eating Thai sans coconut rice and roti bread. I will always love you carbs, Whitney Houston style. The interiors were casual but cute with some traditional touches in the art and decor. As for the service, it was as lovely as it in in Thailand. That super polite sort of hospitality that makes you feel really welcomed. Now for the food. I chose from the Thai charcoal grill section of the menu and opted for beef with soya chilli sauce. If you order this don't expect anything remotely chilli like as it was actually a very sweet sauce, which I personally prefer, so very enjoyable for me but not exactly what one would expect based on the description. I saw some very delicious non health foods en route to other tables, including a particularly enticing pad Thai so I wouldn't mind a return visit post my detox. Overall a cosy, friendly little local at reasonable prices

There are some Thai places that use fresh quality ingredients & there are some places that pour a jar of sauce over frozen veg. This is the latter !
Pad Thai was smothered in ketchup, okay for kids but otherwise a lazy effort.
May as well stay at home, save some cash & do a quick DIY.

We went there on short notice and no problem. Food was served within expected time and venue was well appointed. Food was very good. Servings good Size and staff welcoming. Thoroughly recommend.

I love Thai food & will choose it any day of the week over any other cuisine. Aroy-D is my favourite and has taken over my previous fave in Croydon. I get food from here maybe once or twice a month and have for a few years since I moved to the area and I've never been disappointed. I usually do takeaway but came here for my birthday to dine in & I had exceptional service. I've gone and tried some other Thai restaurants here and there but I always compare it to Aroy-D and Aroy-D beats them every time. Already looking forward to the next time I order!

DO NOT EAT HERE. This is one of the local restaurants which we often go to although my boyfriend and I had dinner here last night and he has food poisoning from it. He ate chicken and I didn't.

Consistent suburbia Thai restaurant.

Neat, tidy, not much fanfare, good, pleasant service and well-priced.
Got most of your typical Thai stir-fries, curries and noodles.

Enjoyable evening.

Came by for dinner, and this place was absolutely empty which made for an interesting environment. Food was quite average, with the pad thai being too sweet, and the massaman curry lacking flavour. Thr food alone would probably rate a 2.5,but the good service pushed it up to a 3.0

Terrible. We spent $65 on 5 dishes..all were dry, clearly re-heated or microwaved and no taste. Very disapointing. Seafood was rubbery, the fried tofu was tough. Will not be eating here again.

A causal place to dine.
The atmosphere is friendly and the food to match.
My love for coconut rice started here after I enjoyed the nicest rice I have had to date however the container it came in reminded me of a thermos you take camping.
As well as the rice we ordered pad Thai which was nice and roti bread with peanut sauce which was also enjoyable.
Cost was inexpensive making this place an ideal spot for a causal cheap night out.

Have eaten here many times and never had a bad meal. The service is quick and friendly although a little too quick at times but if you just want to eat and get out, that's fine. The menu has been consistent for years and a few new dishes or specials would be great.

This was our second time to Aroy D and we will certainly be back. On both occasions, as well as many take away experiences, we have always had amazing food. The massaman curry is crowd favourite that has never disappointed us. The pricing was very reasonable and the service is always fantastic. Definitely worth a try for a low key night out.

Bad take away. The quality at this restaurant has really gone backwards over the past few years. I have just thrown out my last takeaway meal from Aroy d Thai. The tom yum was ultra hot, Sate sauce was very runny and the pad Thai was simply horrible. It's a shame as this was once a great Thai restaurant.

Food has normally been fantastic but last night it was disappointing. Roti was crunchy, coconut rice was bland, pad Thai was strange..... Service was ok but once we finished we were asked 3 times if we want tea or coffee, we asked for the bill but it never came ....
BBQ pork (MuYang) was amazing as always !

Donna. Have dined here on a few occasions and food was always consistently good, but service very slow. We decided to order take away a couple of weeks ago and were also bitterly disappointed. When I called them to let them know they didn't really care and just hung up the phone, not sure they understood me very well. Won't be back or ordering take away, when we can go to Vanilla Orchid in Warrandyte, which is absolutely fabulous food and service!

Really really disappointed. Had dinner on a Saturday night and chose the $39 banquet to try a selection of food. The entrees were generic and the main meals were frankly very bland. The only distinction between flavours was the colour and description on the menu. It's an unsavoury combination to have protein (which appeared to have been cooked for days) with copious amounts of vegetables which were bordering raw.
The highlight of the evening was at 9:45pm when the waiting staff changed into their normal clothes and started vacuuming the restaurant and interrupting our dinner conversation every few minutes to check if we were ready to pay the bill. Won't be returning or recommending to anyone.

FAST. Ordered takeaway. It was ready upon pickup and was delicious.

Having lived in the area for ten years we have eaten previously here on many occasions. Tonight having ordered some take away for the first time in a while we were bitterly disappointed. The pad Thai was gluggy, bland in flavour and lacked ingredients. The roti was store bought and dry. We requested our coconut rice to be creamy, this request was ignored and the coconut rice was mildly flavoured and dry. The BBQ was the only dish to remain consistent over the years.
If you know your Thai food we dont recommend this venue. We won't be returning.

Used to be good but.... Have eaten here for year and love it... BUT...

I don't know if they have changed chefs or whether they have just slowly cared less and less.
It seems that we get less in every meal. Duck (always a favorite) now has been pared down to a measly few bits of duck, some straggly bits of chicken...
it's not what it used to be that's for sure...
They've lost us now... just can't justify the price for the crappy tightarse portions they serve up now.

Love this place. The food here is awesome. Love their Gang Penang. Perfect! Have eaten in and had numerous takeaways. Great service, prices and food.

Enjoyed it. Some Thai restaurants are better than others. This one is one of the better ones. Food it fresh and tasty and service is very good. Highlight for me was the BBQ beef. I like hot and spicy but this food is very mild not all thai has to be spicy. For non spicy thai it is very tasty.

Terrible don't trust the good reviews. Definately the worst thai food I have eaten anywhere (Melb - city, burbs, Aus or Thailand) and I gave it two chances (there was a long break between occasions). I am dissapointed with the good reviews as you hope they would give you an indication of the food quality and experience of a restaurant. The curries lack any filling - they are just all sauce, and unfortunately the sauce has no flavour at all. The pad thai is bland and the food in general really has no traditional thai flavours, heat or spices. There are many fantastic thai restaurants all around Melbourne. If you just want good thai close by then try Knox or Glen Waverly. If you just want delicious curries and asian style food in general around/close to Ringwood then skip this placce and eat at Tokyo Sake 3 doors down, Taj Agra or YangYang Noodle & Dumpling.

Can't believe this got so many likes. Food came out in about five minutes. The curries were bland and tasteless, the yellow and green curries tasted like coconut milk. Service was terrible couldn't get anyone to order another drink or dessert. Eventually went up to the bar to pay, stood there whilst they did things at the bar, when asked for help we still then couldn't pay our bill they cleaned our table instead. Won't go back there again. Much better Thai places to go to.

Quick service on a Tuesday, loved the Roti bread with peanut sauce. Good curry, good pad Thai. All round good experience.

The best Thai I've had. I'm maybe a but biased because it's my local Thai place and my family has it every Sunday night and we go there for every birthday but it is really the best! They best part is they use the good part of the chicken in their stir fries and curries not just the cheap part. Pad Thai is always a winner as well as their massaman curry! Not the spiciest curries ( but just ask for extra spicey if your that way inclined), lovey service, very quick takeaway and just lovely food! A great place to take a group for dinner!

Suburban Thai. Needing to have a dinner meeting in Ringwood we chose the Aroy-D Thai due to its location more than anything. The service is excellent, and the staff are all Thai. The entrees are great - we tried the satay chicken skewers and the curry puffs. For mains we had green pork curry - very flavoursome but zero curry strength - definitely tuned to Ringwood and not Thailand. The other main dish was incorrect however we were hungry so just ate it. The pricing is a little more than expected, however the service made up for it. Two mains, two entrees, two soft drinks $60. Overall if you are geographically challenged or enjoy a simple Thai meal this is worth a visit.

Good for the outer burbs. Went there on a Tuesday night, lots of people in, service was pretty good, food was tasty. the Tom yum Gong had too bigger vegies, tomato that I could'nt fit on a spoon but otherwise pretty nice.

okay value for money at $64 for two entree and two mains.
Drinks prices are really good value.

Thought I'd try this place for a change and whilst not a 10 out of 10 it certainly wasn't bad by any shake of the stick. The Tom yum goong was a bit lazy - not many vegetables but saved by the good quality prawns. I asked for the green curry to be hot and to their credit they didn't make it white man hot. I'd like to go back for a dine in experience.
